So many people are doing such a great job of introducing Dead Boy Detectives to new audiences, so it's time to make my small contribution as well.
Fans of my oldest love, Rex Stout's Nero Wolfe and Archie Goodwin novels, may I present to you my newest love?
In Wolfe and Edwin, you have:
The Brains
escaped the worst place imaginable on foot, with nothing but cussed determination and skill
reads everything
cantankerous as all get-out
fussy
downplays emotions
will only attempt physical violence when partner is threatened
believes partner to be The Charming One and himself to be Difficult With People
That Vocabulary Though
believes police are useless for the kind of cases they solve
seems misogynist until you realize he just thinks everyone is an idiot
inductive reasoning via small observed details
While in Archie and Charles, you have:
The Brawn
will lighten the mood even if it kills everyone in this room goddamn it
acts easygoing 99% of the time
watch out for that last 1% though
actually smarter than he thinks he is
is not quite as charming as his partner believes, but still not too shabby
will wait patiently for his partner's Big Brain to solve everything, and just kinda pokes around in the meantime
knows when his partner needs his unconditional support
also knows when his partner needs a metaphorical kick in the ass
generous to a fault
willing to take cases that won't pay because they're morally right
deductive reasoning from broad knowledge of people
So please, if you enjoy this dynamic between characters as they solve strange mysteries, give this show a watch.

ISLAM 101: Spirituality in Islam: Part 175
Wujud (Finding and Existence): Part1
Wujud (finding and existence) is not what is meant in Qur’anic statements like the following: They assuredly find that God is One Who truly returns the repentance of His servants with acceptance and extra reward, and All-Compassionate (especially toward His believing servants) (4:64); He will find God All-Forgiving, All Compassionate (especially towards His servants who seek forgiveness for their evils and sins) (4:110); and In the end he will find God and meet with Him, and He will pay him his account in full (24:39). These are, respectively, more concerned with how those who have sinned or lapsed somewhat into deviations on the way, beg God for forgiveness, and how the unbelievers will find God or how God will treat them. Rather, finding and existence denote the finding of Him with His truth beyond all concepts of modality, as referred to in, O son of Adam, seek Me that you may find Me, and some allegorical sayings of the Prophet, upon him be peace and blessings. When travelers to the Truth attain this rank of finding, they feel and achieve a state of melting away in the presence of the manifestations of His “Face,” with nothing being left behind except that state and the pleasure it gives. One who starts with this belief and advances toward knowledge and love of God is called “an initiate.” Such initiates continue their journey by understanding the language of His signs in the outer and in their inner world and by feeling that their witnessing of Him is that of “a seeking one.” Finally, when they have reached the ultimate point where they have found the truth in their consciousness according to the capacity of that consciousness, beyond all concepts of time, space and matter, each becomes the “one who has found.” The beginning of this journey demands belief and perfect resolution, and its continuance requires being driven and led, and reaching the end according to the capacity of each, melting away and total annihilation in the face of the rays of the Realm of the Holy Presence. This final point in no way denotes incarnation or union (with God) or God’s taking on a corporeal body or His being transformed into another being. It only denotes the state and pleasure of feeling as a drop in relation to the ocean and as a particle in relation to the sun. Abu’l Hasan al-Nuri expresses the state of those who have reached this point vividly: “I have been going to and fro between finding and losing for twenty years. When I enjoy meeting with my Lord Whose Essence is unknown, I lose my heart; and when I feel my existence in heart, I then suffer a loss of Him.”
Certainly, it is not possible for those who are still at the beginning of the way to feel the state described by al-Nuri. For this state, which is frequently felt and frequently disappears, resembles the state of a diver who feels the water when diving into it, and lets the water pull him or her deeper, and who feels only the water when he or she becomes “lost” in the depths. If such a feeling that appears on the way to reaching the truth of something is based on the knowing of the heart or consciousness, it is the culture of consciousness or cognizance in consciousness. If it is of the kind obtained with vision or insight, then it is sight. If travelers are in constant pursuit of increasing research, analysis, and synthesis, then the result is spiritual discovery and vision. Finally if they see everything annihilated in God, then their state is annihilation in God and subsistence with God, and they feel no need whatsoever for anybody else save Him.
At the beginning or in the first stage of the journey, travelers are saved from all doubts and hesitations and attain in their consciousness such a degree of knowledge of God that they no longer need deductive or inductive reasoning in the name of “finding,” even though they sometimes refer to things and events when expressing the truth. Based on a knowledge that comes directly from the Divine Presence to aid finding, they rise to the horizon of knowledge of God they inwardly experience, and this knowing is above the kind of knowledge acquired by rational arguments and the observation of His “material” witnesses in the universe.
In the second stage, travelers reach the point where they feel and have the vision of the Eternally Existent One, which is in effect knowing Him with a knowledge based on spiritual observation of Him, without restricting Him with such considerations as body, substance, matter, time and space.
In the third stage, which marks almost the end point of the journey, travelers are in a state of experiencing the Truly Existent One without seeing any other existents save Him, and they attain annihilation in Him in their world of feelings.
This systematization of the journey is based on the assertion that spiritual knowledge of God is higher in value than the knowledge acquired through scientific or rational arguments, and that the spiritual vision of God is above the spiritual knowledge of Him, and that finding Him in self-annihilation in Him is more valuable than the spiritual vision of Him. However, this needs to be revised according to those who see the vision beyond finding.
There is another consideration based on the concentration of the Divine Existence only. This consideration, which has been called the Unity of Being, is sometimes reduced to a mere philosophical view, although it arises from a spiritually experienced state. It will be useful to give some information about it here.

I think I've finally defined the superpowers of the entire Bennet family
Mr. Bennet: Telekinesis
Had only a short burst of hero work when dating Mrs. Bennet, but uses his powers a lot in daily life.
Has a high level of strength and control. Can't move things that are heavier than he could move with his physical strength, but can move a lot of them with precision. No interest in using it for any purpose besides his own convenience, though.
Mrs. Bennet: Electricity generation/manipulation
Had a short, mildly successful superhero career in which she used her powers in dazzling but not terribly creative ways.
Career ended after she pushed herself too far and more-or-less shorted herself out. She can now generate electricity in mild bursts and manipulate (and sometimes fry) the electronics in the house, but nothing nearly strong enough for effective superhero work.
Powers go a bit haywire when she get emotionally agitated, which leaves her feeling drained.
Now pins all her hopes on her daughters getting superhero careers, which will give them the freedom to use their superhuman abilities openly and allow her to relive her glory years.
Jane Bennet: Super strength
Extremely strong and completely indestructible. Can stop a train without breaking a sweat. Has yet to find anything that overpowers her strength or harms her in any way.
Still vulnerable to disease (is unable to be vaccinated against anything since her skin is unbreakable), and ingested and inhaled substances
Has intense control over her strength. Is extremely gentle in everything she does and is extremely kind because you have to be very gentle and think the best of everybody when any loss of control could hurt someone
The source of 75% of her mother's hopes in establishing the girls within Netherfield's roster of superheroes
Does want to be a superhero, because she wants to help people and because it's the only way she can see to use her full strength in a non-harmful way, but struggles with the high expectations and the way her mother's plans have shaped every factor of her life. She puts a good face on it, but sometimes secretly wonders if she'll ever be able to find personal happiness amid the demands of a superhero's life
Elizabeth Bennet: Enhanced intelligence
Able to quickly memorize and synthesize information, and can quickly follow complicated chains of logic to make snap decisions
Moderately enhanced senses (because the senses also come from the brain) that allow her to notice more details about her environment than the average person would. Directs a lot of her intelligence towards deductive and inductive reasoning based on the evidence she gathers and is extremely good at tracking and detective work.
Is extremely aware of everything in her environment and has an innate understanding of physics, so she can use everything in the area to her advantage in an emergency situation. (Everything from always knowing the best escape route, to knowing how to set off a Rube-Goldberg chain reaction that gives her an advantage, to arranging everyone's abilities for the best plan of attack, etc.).
Decently good fighting skills, especially for someone of her size and strength, because of her knowledge of physics, and because she's trained against Jane, so she's figured out ways to overcome someone much stronger than she is
Could do just about anything in the civilian sector with her talents, but wants to go into superheroing to support Jane, and because she most enjoys using her intelligence in those fast-paced emergency situations (and has little interest in further schooling)
Her mother's least favorite child, because Mrs. Bennet can't see how Lizzie's brain, as quick as it is, could help her compete against people with actual superpowers
Mary Bennet: Telekinesis
Has very weak powers. Developed them much later than her sisters did and has little power or control. Can move lots of light things very haphazardly. Often moves things without intending to, or to places she didn't intend them to go.
Wants to improve her skills, but focuses more on theory than application. Has read tons of scientific and philosophical research about her abilities, but has psyched herself out by making it more complicated than it has to be, so she's actually worse off than she'd have been if she hadn't read anything
Her dad could help, but won't because he's a jerk. It's much easier to make fun of her lack of ability than to help her improve.
Has zero interest in the superhero life, and keeps reading philosophical books about the ethics of superheroism to convince herself that she's really better off without powers
Kitty Bennet: Light manipulation
Can manipulate visible light to create illusions or make herself invisible. Mostly uses this for pranking purposes, though Lydia does fill her head with grandiose plans for their future superhero adventures
Can use her powers to manipulate the light from Lydia's electrical blasts
Can direct light into very intense beams that can do some damage
Able to see in very low light and can bend light like a mirror to see far distances or around angles like a periscope
Around home, is often invisible without intending to be. Lizzie can almost always detect her, though, and sometimes uses Kitty's abilities to train her own senses. Kitty sometimes spars against Jane, too, and uses her abilities pretty well, until Lydia pulls her away into something more frivolous
Lydia Bennet: Electricity generation/manipulation
Even at only sixteen, is more powerful than her mother ever was. This sends Mrs. Bennet into raptures.
Can generate powerful blasts of electricity. Has never been able to even mildly scorch Jane, though, which frustrates her a bit. Has called down lightning a couple of times
Can destroy electronics, though she doesn't have the control to do anything requiring more finesse than pure destruction.
Can use static electricity to cling to walls and use electricity to levitate in a way that resembles flight
Loves using her powers and is very reckless with them. Can't see why she can't start a superhero career now, because she's more powerful than any of the rest of them.

Wolves
Tumblr media
Pairing: Kaeya x fem!Reader, Diluc, Crepus
Warning: minor swearing, cheesy flirt, dry humour
Summary: All men are wolves.
A/N: Muahaha I have came back and brought you the blatant cheesy flirt. Welcome to the first lesson of flirting with Kaeya. Lol, guess who is coming next?
Also, I’m planning to write a wind-trace fic because the game is so fun. (p/s: I waste 3 hours playing it) Guess who is in it?
Okay, the first fic for my lover boy. Please give Kaeya a lot of love!! (* ̄3 ̄)╭
Another beautiful day, another day of wasting the lovely weather to stay inside the study room, bury your head into the pile of books next to you. You let your eyes wander to the window again, gazing rays of light fleeting through the window, golden hues on the wooden floor. Tiny specks of dust accumulate overnight, fluttering around the curtain. Outside, the chirping birds bathing under the sun, casually chilling on the window. Oh, how you wish you would be able to relax like those carefree animals.
“You might burn the birds crips the longer you stare at it.” Startled by the quiet voice, your head snaps toward the blue-haired teenage direction, and you can’t help but scowl at his statement. You can’t be the only person in the room who wants to go out and play. Knowing Kaeya, he’s definitely trying to find an excuse to end the class early.
The only person who is diligent, hard-working, and does not have thought about leaving this room is the young master Diluc. The young man is sitting opposite you, eyes burning holes on the thick textbook.
Archon, how can a 16 years old overly enthusiastic person like him enjoy the excitement of reading Descartes philosophy? Maybe he is the only child in Mondstadt, no, maybe in the whole Teyvat who enjoys something torturous like that. Shivering at your own thought, you shift your chair closer to Kaeya, giving Diluc a terror gaze.
“Aren’t you going to finish the essay?” Pointing at the half-full parchment on the table, you ask. “ Diluc and I already finish it.”
“ Oh, how do I know? How am I suppose to understand Kant and Descartes theories, and then link them to deductive and inductive reasoning?"  Kaeya lets his finger running through the silky blue hair and pulls them out of frustration. On the other side, Diluc shoots him a glare, annoyed by his brother complaint.
“How did you guys do it?” Kaeya asks boredly, his finger pokes the quill.
You put your hand under your chin, beaming him charmingly.  “ You know Kaeya, it is something I call improvisation. Words just flow out of my tip.” Under your lashes, you can see his cheek dusting pink. Cute!
“ Just read the books, and you will get it.” Diluc unhelpful adds.
Both of you stare at red-head incredulously. Is he being serious?
Like always, Kaeya knows he can not take your advice to heart. One is a genius, and the other is just pure luck.
Suddenly, the door is burst open, and you quickly shove your feet into the shoes, eyes darting to see the intruder. Internally, you hope that person is not lady Elizabeth, your etiquette teacher. Your blood runs cold at the thought. You can already imagine her sharp tones commenting how horrendous and un-ladylike your act is.
“How is your study going?” A deep, strong voice booming from the back, and finally, you get let out a breath. Diluc looks up from his book, beams brightly at the man.
“ We are done with homework, father. These are just extra reading.” Well, for the record, these are his extra readings, not yours. And Kaeya hasn’t finished his 2 feet scrolls of essay yet.
Master Crepus nods in satisfaction. “ If that is finished, you kids can take a break. The young lady from the Gunnhildr family is here with her father. Maybe you can give her some accompanies.”  The middle-aged man directs the words at you, maybe feeling guilty for leaving a young lady like you in his two sons care.
Your parents left you in the Ragnvindr care every Summer because of their hectic schedules and frequent business trips at this time of the year. In addition, your mother says it is essential for you to have good relationships with the heir of Ragnvindr and his brother. “Maybe you will need their help someday.” She left it vaguely.
“ Are you guys going to drink again?” Kaeya suspiciously questions, his eyes glinting with playfulness.
“ Hey, what’s wrong with men having a drink together?” Crepus defensively retorts, notices how Diluc gives him a disproving gaze.
“ When you guys grow up, you would enjoy it too.” The three let out opposing noises, clearly not having the same idea as him. The man waves dismissively return back the topic.
“ Let’s come down to greet the head of Gunnhildr first.” He heads toward the door, down the hallway.
“And be nice to the young lady, boys.” The master emphasizes the phrase, his eyes pinning at the guilty-looking Kaeya and the absent-minded Diluc. Finally, he exits the room, not forgetting to close the door.
“ Father says as if we don’t treat people nicely.” Kaeya pouts, right after Crepus footstep drifting away from the study. “ The workers never complain anything about our behaviours, right Luc?”
Sitting next to him, you can't help but let out a snort. He dares to say that? Kaeya raises eyebrows at you, annoyed by your shaking shoulder. The boy in red has a blank face, maybe not interested.
“ First, you guys ignore me for 2 weeks when I just came here.” You burst out in laughter, recalling back at the very first memory when you just arrived here.
“When I tried to approach, you both avoided me like the plague.” Your whole body is shaking vigorously, tears forming at the corners of your eyes. This is too hilarious! Somewhere in between, you can spot Diluc burning cheek.
“ Haha, and haha-later,” You can hardly breath, laughter bubbling up. “Adeline told me your reason is ‘It's b-because she doesn’t have a willie.' ” Dramatically air-quoting, you even imitate their stuttering childish voices. This earns you a pointed glare from Diluc and a smack in the arm from Kaeya, but a good laugh is always worth it.
Both of them freeze on their tracks, faces puff red as tomatoes, steaming almost coming off their ears. If the young heir is to wear a red suit, you are sure he can blend in well with the mansion roof.
Diluc shifts stiffly in his chair and abruptly stands up, heading toward the exit. Maybe he is too embarrassed at the mention of his dark childhood.
“Where-haha, are you going, Luc?” You are still in the middle of your giggling, noticing how Diluc is dashing to the door. Letting out a coughing fit, he quietly mumbles.
“ I'm going down to greet the Gunnhildr family.” His figure vanishes right behind the door, not letting you tease him further. Outside, the painful sound of Diluc tripping on his own feet make you almost fall off your chair. You have too many good laughs today.
“Right, I-I should get going too.” Next to you, the blazing Kaeya remembers to dig a hole and hide. His hand slams hard on the table and the youthful teenager stands up, gracefully heading toward the door. Maybe he wants to avoid becoming another joke.
" Ah, wait-" You follow instantly, but the moment you stand up, something slips, and the next thing you know, the ground is shaking, and you see the ceiling is getting further.
Your first instinct is to grab the closest object, and then close your eyes, waiting for the painful impact with your head. Clench your jaw tightly, and you hold your breath, hoping it will hurt less if you tense your body.
Right after tensing up, you feel someone just grab you by your shoulder, and your feet step on something bumpy. And then, your head makes an impact with something hard. A grunting is followed.
Heart hammering in your chest, you cautiously peek, expecting yourself to see the ceiling, but instead, greet with an unusual sight. A pair of dark colour trouser paired with leather shoes. On top of it is your feet, loosely wore low heel is stepping on that leather shoes. Shit, you stepped on Kaeya. In a panic, you rush down from his painful sore feet, but your head jams in his ribs. He just let out another woeful sound.
This time, you carefully keep your position in place, slowly remove each foot one by one, moving away from him. Craning your neck upward, you finally meet his gaze, his eyes are full of concern and uneasiness, spooked out by your sudden incident.
“Did you hit your head hard?” Kaeya asks you nervously, his voice laced with anxiety. He must have been terrified when you slip. You shake your head, hands grabbing his shirt.
" I should be asking you that. Are you okay?" You give him a worrying gaze, your fingers running along his ribs, checking if your stone head broke anything. " I didn't break anything, right?" Hesitantly, you look into his deep blue eyes, noticing the diamond shape. Has he always has this in his eyes?
Kaeya snorts inelegantly, shakes his head. " Your head is hard as a rock, but that much can't break my ribs yet." This earns him a hit on his arm.
"Hey! I'm trying to be considerate, and this is how you treat me?" You jab him, hand purposely smack his chest, but he doesn't budge an inch. How strong is this guy? This time, you put all the force on your arm, slapping hard on his chest again. The young man in the blues shoot you a shit-eating grin, clearly not faze.
"How is my chest feeling?" He pokes, his palm engulfing yours.
" Too hard for my liking." You give him a complex look, trying to escape from his tight grip but fail miserably. You wiggle your hand again, shaking off his iron clad. Why is he so strong?
While you are attempting to flee from his firm grasp, the young man leans down, face an inch away from you. Flushing at the sudden closure, like usual,  you avoid his burning gaze. You hold your breath when your noses almost touch. What is this rascal doing again?
" You shouldn't be touching men like that." Kaeya opens his mouth, saying something completely out of nowhere. You tilt your head in confusion, while your eyes travel down, you notice your hands still on his chest. O-oh, so he is saying about this.
" I  don't normally touch random people." You mumble defensively, your eyes lower. " I was checking for your injury."
"They will misunderstand." Kaeya cuts in right after, not accepting the excuse. But why would they misunderstand? You are just being nice, right?
Like he can understand what is going inside your mind, Kaeya reminds you.
"All men are wolves, you should be more be careful with them."
You give him a confusing look.
Kaeya is not one of them, right?
Eventually, he let out a soft sigh and moves back, allowing you to savour your personal space. Just right after your throbbing heart finally calms down, he brings your tight-griped hand in his to his face. Your meet with his alluring look in his eyes. It is pulling you in, telling you to give in the temptation. Plump lips brush your knuckle teasingly, he blows a warm breath on the back of your hand. He gives you a saccharine smile.
" And if not be careful." His husky voice ringing in your ears, the numbing spark runs along your spine. "They might devour you."

How would you react if someone close to you found out you enjoy Diabolik Lovers and then accused you of glorifying Laito’s actions by drawing fan art of him? I don’t think it is shameful to enjoy fiction with themes of abuse as long as one can differentiate between fiction and reality and right and wrong, but I was just wondering if you think it is worth ending a whole friendship because of this dispute. My friends think I am someone who supports sexual assault through this series and it hurts.
Coming back from the dead to answer this question
Oh goodness, first of all, I’m very sorry anon. I’ve been in that exact situation with a friend when I first got into DL six years ago. They’re not my friend anymore due to some other things that happened in early high school on top of that, but trust me, it’s something that I’m familiar with too.
I was also ashamed of myself as well for some time. But, after when I was first sexually assaulted, I still didn’t mind Dialovers, and in fact, it was a coping mechanism for me (probably the healthiest I could find at that moment too). Although, Laito’s HDB route definitely hit very very hard because it is his darkest route in the series. But you can still watch something and be like “oh god this is a terrible situation” but know it’s still fictional, and since Laito’s HDB route is a well written one, you can appreciate it from an artistic stance. Art and media shouldn’t be limited to drawing the positives. Sure does it glorify nonconsensual situations??? Maybe a little but it does show Yui’s deterioration and trauma. Which is why I don’t think it glorifies it too much in HDB, considering what Yui’s thoughts are can be very real.
(Also not saying all sexual assault survivors will have the same opinion of this anime, I don’t speak for all survivors. But there’s your perspective from one :))
Regardless, the fanservice of DL, at its core, is a ravishment fantasy franchise. Sure people are here for the lore too (I know I am), but they can also be for the fanservice. I am unsure how old you are, anon, but considering this petty argument is occurring between a friend and you, it sounds like some high school/late middle school drama to me. I preface this considering I’m gonna be arguing something from the 18+ scale too. If you’re not 18+ this doesn’t rly apply to you (since no minors should be practicing kink) but there is something called CNC, or “consensual non-consensual.” Also known as “rape roleplay.” It’s a kink that can be used in BDSM, and is enacted by consenting adults. Is it nonconsensual? No way! However, in order to practice this, you need a lot of communication and trust, and it’s something that you shouldn’t start out with of course. Also, see Netflix’ “Sex Explained” and I think the first episode is on sexual fantasies. Many women have ravishment fantasies, but that doesn’t mean they want it ACTUALLY to happen to them!! With those types of fantasies it’s just in a D/s (Dom/sub) power play situation, which again, is performed by two (or more) consenting adults.
When it comes to that argument as well, it’s kind of like saying “if you watch and like slasher horror, you support serial killers” which,,,, is far from truth. Murder and rape are both terrible things. We’re just more used to seeing glorified violence on mainstream media rather than rape in general. There’s a whole slasher fandom! With people who love the lore and people who love the characters! It’s pretty similar to this fandom given the circumstances. But there’s people who have crushes on real life serial killers, and that’s just,,,, that’s a huge issue (abs very gross), and very different. Since one’s fantasy, and one’s in real life with real life actions that have affected legitimate families that exist. Even going from the slasher serial killer, it’s like “if you like Deadpool, do you support his actions?” (Which yes he’s an antihero but he does pretty illegal things) which no!!! It’s fun to explore dark and illegal exposition in a fictional world! It’s an escape! It’s looking at a story and still having empathy and sympathy for the characters.
So no!!! Liking DL is not supporting rape!! That’s legitimately such a stretch, and if you want to get technical with this, it’s a type of fallacy called the “slippery slope” fallacy. I believe it’s a combo of others too, but it’s making a claim and having the conclusion be way out of left field. I believe it falls under poor deductive reasoning (but it may be unsound inductive reasoning, it’s been a while since I’ve had to use those skills oops). For an anime specific example, let’s just say you know someone who has a crush on Yuno Gasai from Future Diary. Many people do. Many people love her character. Yuno’s a very flawed, traumatized character just like the ones in DL. But people love her! But you’re not supporting her incredibly unethical actions and murder by liking them!
Even if you know that this is a fictional universe, if you knowthat the characters are flawed but still like their characters, that doesn’t mean you’d support their actions irl. If they’re an interesting villain like legitimately all the characters (except Yui) in the first game are (the diaboys become both the villain??? And the hero??? It’s blurred in the later games but that’s what I love about DL), but you can appreciate their characters and flaws, that’s not supporting their actions at all. It’s a goddamn fictional universe and if you know not to do that and you know the repercussions of it irl then your friends should know you well enough that you have a good head on your shoulders!!! Shit makes me wicked mad, but it’s nothing to lose a friendship over unless if they’re being very toxic (that ex friend I was talking about earlier was a very toxic person and that’s also part of the reason why I’m not her friend anymore but it wasn’t DL related). Sure you can disagree with liking DL, but you still have to respect them. I’m linking a video from Markiplier made four years ago with a powerful message.
I’m very sorry you’re going through this. It’s completely normal, healthy, and inconsequential to be exploring a dark fictional world but not its contents in real life. Your friends shouldn’t be treating you like that. It’s hypocritical of them in my opinion, assuming that they also watch stuff with violence and illegal/unethical acts in them—I don’t know a single person who doesn’t, considering there’s even kids cartoon violence. Best of luck you you though, I hope I was able to help.

20-ish Questions: Book Edition
Tagged by the lovely @crispyjenkins <3
I’ve only just started getting back into the groove of reading again because med school sucked. ANYWAYS.
1. hardcover or paperback
I prefer paperback, mostly because they’re easier for me to hold when reading, lighter for transport, and they’re (usually) cheaper LOL
I’ll buy hardcover if I know I’ll love the book a lot since they’re more durable or I’m too impatient to wait for the paperback to release.
2. rent or buy
Always buy. I...didn’t realize you could rent books other than textbooks? LOL
3. reads in silence or reads with music
I’m like 80% of the time listening to music so that includes when reading!
4. standalone or series
Either! It’s been a while since I’ve read books outside of medschool though. Most of the ones I’ve read recently are standalones.
5. annotations or pristine pages
I’m like incapable of writing inside books. LOL I’ll add transparent sticky notes and tabs if I do want to make notes. Or I’ll make notes on my Kindle for e-books.
6. ebook or physical copy
I prefer physical copy.
However, considering I’ve been moving across the world and the US every 1-2 years for the past like...6-10? years and traveling a bunch, e-books are so much easier to transport, so I’ve been reading them more. And they’re often times cheaper and I had zero income with max debt.  (Also this way, I can store my favorite fics onto my Kindle along with my favorite books ehehe)
All my physical copy books are currently at my parents’ house. :’(
7. dog ears or bookmarks
Bookmarks! Or whatever scrap of paper I have on hand LOL I don’t like folding my book pages...
8. mismatched series or complete set
A mismatched set would bother the HECK out of me....
9. cover matters or you don’t judge
Oh I totally judge a book by its cover LOL Presentation is important! But it’s not like a deal-breaker or anything. The summary/blurb and author’s writing style is always important too. But I have totally bought another copy of a book I already had just for a nicer cover.
10. lend books or keep them to yourself
I used to lend/exchange books with a friend in high school. Now most of my friends are docs/med students so no one has time to read ;~;
11. enjoys lit classes or despises them
Major mixed feelings. I loved reading (most) of the books we were assigned. I loved the creative assignments we got. What I didn’t like were writing essays. I got good grades and all and didn’t do poorly on them, but there was always something missing in my essays keeping them from like great vs good, according to my teachers. Turns out it was a cultural difference in presenting arguments, and so the Western structure of essay writing never jived with me even though all my formative schooling was in the US???? (NTS: I need to find that article explaining the difference between presenting arguments in the West vs the East. It had to do with like inductive vs deductive reasoning.)
So yeah, mixed feelings on lit class. I did avoid taking one of the AP English classes specifically because of the damn essays.
12. browses shops or orders online
I love browsing stores, but haven’t had any time for that in years, so mostly ordering online. Also COVID is rampant here so no exploring the nice-looking indie bookstores for a while. ;D;
13. reads reviews or goes in blind
Usually go in blind. Exceptions for recommendations from friends or what people might be saying about the books in my spheres of social media.
14. unreturned books or clean library record
Well, since I moved here, I’ve gotten a new library card! So far, a clean record. But considering COVID is rampant here, I’m sticking with ebook borrows right now so no unreturned books!
15. rereads or once was enough
Definitely rereads!!! Rereading JA now. I re-read Pride & Prejudice every 2-3 years btw. LOL
16. fanfic enthusiast or a stickler for canon
Considering I write fanfic? Fanfic enthusiast for sure! XD Sticking only to canon would be boring and so limiting!! And sometimes you just need that fix-it to glue your heart back together LOL  Canon informs my writing, but I don’t 100% adhere to it!
17. deep reader or easily distracted
If I’m enjoying the book, I’m a deep reader and will literally sit there and finish the book. No breaks. No sleep. Which is also why I haven’t read much in the past few years LOL
18. must read the book before seeing the movie or order doesn’t matter
Order doesn’t particularly matter to me. I’m not a big stickler on movies staying 100% faithful to the book. But yeah also not a fan of movies changing details that didn’t need to be changed. What I don’t like is when movies change or don’t include what I find an important scene in the book. (Like the execution of [insert scene here] means so much to me and you just -- LEAVE IT OUT???)
19. neat bookshelves or messy bookshelves
My books are all over the place, but uuuh usually starts out neat and then gets messy as I accumulate more books LOL
20. skips ahead or resists temptation
I usually just read straight through. I have been burned by the endings of several fics and books though, so depending on how the story is going, I might peek at the last paragraph. Just to be safe.
21. reads aloud or in your head
I can’t even listen to audiobooks or podcasts most of the time unless I’m like building furniture or something alkdfjas so definitely only reading in my head.
22. guesses plot twists or never sees them coming
I don’t go out of my way to guess the twists? Like if the clues are there and I pick up on them, great. I just sit back and enjoy the story?
Tagging @kitsunekage88 @rinrinp42 @amillionstarsandyouchoosethisone and @turtletotem <3
No obligation to answer these of course! This one is also kind of long LOL

↳「headcanon.」( @wolfstillhasclaws ) is curious - 33. How do they learn about the world–what is their preferred learning style? Hands-on learning with trial and error? Research, reading, and note-taking? Observation or rote memorization? Inductive or deductive reasoning? Seeking patterns and organization? Taking things apart and putting them back together? Creative processing via discussing, writing about, or dramatizing things?
Polnareff hated school and it was mostly because he’s a kinesthetic , tactile, and visual learner. He couldn’t sit long enough as a child and teen to focus on the textbooks. So in the subjects he excelled in were the ones where he is physically active in them.
Hands-on is a thing that he has to do otherwise concepts like math and algebra were all but a lost cause to him ( had to to use physical items to learn to count ). He really enjoys trial and error type of learning in many aspects, seeing as learning from mistakes is beneficial and actually welcomes it ( as long as its not one massive failure he’ll feel bad about ).
He takes notes a lot, but for him to get any kind of memorization of information he needs to focus deeply and read something at least three times. So he likes to observe what he’s learning about in person or an image of it.  As for Inductive or Deductive reasoning? Inductive. Theories in general get lost on him and he will feel stupid if you spit some theories on science and or math. He needs to see it to believe so to speak. So he’d mostly seek out patterns in something he’s trying to solve.
He’s not the kind to take stuff apart and put back together. It’s all too much for him ( lol ). He does however loves to write poems and short stories. He’s a rather imaginative guy and he’ll sometimes tell really dramatic stories if you get him to do story time.

(  42 CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT  QUESTIONS  )
Tumblr media Tumblr media
get  ready  to  get  information  -  although  this  will  get  long  so  to  spare  your  dashes  ,  i  will  add  a  read  more  after  the  1st.
1. How do they move and carry themselves? Pace, rhythm, gestures, energy?
Vil’s  movements  can  best  be  described  as  elegant  and  smooth  ,  refined.  In  some  ways  ,  they  can  almost  mirror  how  performers  move.   When  he  moves  ,  it  often  looks  like  one  fluid  motion  rather  than  several  independent  actions.  He  carries  himself  with  an  air  of  confidence  ,  chin  level  and  shoulders  back.  (  If  he  doesn’t  view  you  as  being  worth  much  attention  ,  his  chin  will  be  tilted  more  upwards  ,  eyes  looking  more  downwards  whereas  equals  or  those  wary  he  keeps  his  eyes  and  chin  level.  ) For  those  well  versed  in  body  language  ,  they’d  be  able  to  see  that  even  in  the  grace  there’s a  subtle  rigidness  to  it  in  posture.  It’s  most  noticeable  in  his  shoulders  ,  but  even  then  it  can  be  hard  to  see.  He’s  trained  to  keep  proper  posture  at  all  times.  His  go-to  is  typically  shoulders  back  ,  feet  5  inches  apart  ,  and  his  body  is  typically  all  aligned.  It’s  the  proper  way  to  stand  to  show  confidence.  A  lot  of  his  actions  go  in  line  to  his  body  ,  either  parallel  or  perpendicular  to  the  body  planes.
His  gestures  ,  much  like  his  movements  ,  tend  to  be  gentler  and  softer  ,  open  but  not  too  open.  It  all  flows.  This  is  the  BIGGEST  way  to  see  if  Vil  is  getting  irritated  or  upset  -  the  gentle  grace  of  his  actions  suddenly  becomes  sharp  and  quick  like  a  knife.  Instead  of  turning  his  head,  he’ll  snap  to  look  that  way.  He  typically  keeps  a  relaxed  but  steady  and  rhythmical  pace  -  he  has  things  to  do  but  isn’t  frantic.  If  he  is  ,  thing’s  suddenly  become  fast  paced  and  rather  than  mere  confidence  ,  his  posture  becomes  assertive
13. How do they greet the world — what is their typical attitude towards life? How does it differ in different circumstances, or towards different subjects? Why do they take these attitudes, and why do they change? How do these tend to be expressed?
Vil  typically  has  an  upbeat  attitude  ,  but  he’s  also  on  guard  and  wary.  He’s  not  naive  ,  and  especially  in  the  noble  classes  ,  image  can  be  EVERYTHING.  This  is  part  of  the  reason  why  Vil’s  so  focused  on  appearances.  Because  he  IS  aware  that  appearances  ,  social  ranking  ,  etc.  can  be  extremely  beneficial  ,  but  it  can  destroy  you  just  as  easily.  It  can  be a  dog-eat-dog  sort  of  world  and  Vil  has  long  been  exposed  to  that.  Which  is  why  when  it  comes  to  connections  and  the  subject  of  friendships  ,  Vil  is  very  DISTRUSTFUL  of  it  being  genuine.  People  can  gain  a  lot  being  close  to  him.  I  think  in  Cater’s  side  story  (  i  forgot  the  exact  card  )  Vil’s  shown  to  have  millions  of  very  active  followers  OUTSIDE  of  just  the  school.  He  makes  ties  because  those  are  beneficial  ,  but  friendships  he’s  more  wary  of. Those  thoughts  he  keeps  locked  up,  and  the  only  sign  is  the  fact  he  DOES  NOT  like  to  express  emotional  vulnerability  like  sadness  or  uncertainty  to  others.  But  in  his  own  life  he  has  a  fairly  positive  outlook  :  he  is  in  a  good  spot  and  he’s  aware  of  it.  Now  he  just  has  to  ensure  he  stays  there  and  doesn’t  fall  to  ruin.
19. How do they behave within a group? What role(s) do they take? Does this differ if they know and trust the group, versus finding themselves in a group of strangers? Why?
Vil  often  takes  the  leading  role  in  many  situations.  He  flourishes  in  the  center  ,  but  it’s  also  where  he’s  been  trained  and  raised  to  be.  All  eyes  on  him.  He’s  often  the  person  that  will  vocalize  a  group’s  opinion  ,  being  a  representative  and  leader  in  classes.  He  knows  when  to  take a  step  back  if  it’s  not  his  best  subject  ,  but  it’s  a  smart  strategy  to  have  Vil  be  the  speaker  ,  especially  with  large  crowds  ,  because  he’s  comfortable  there  and  attracts  attention.
When  it  comes  to  social  settings  ,  it  depends.  You’ll  often  find  him  at  the  heart  of  the  party  ,  engaging  with  anyone  and  everyone  that  wishes  to.  But  these  are  often  settings  filled  with  strangers  or  acquaintances.  In  these  moments  ,  his  perfect  etiquette  kicks  into  high  gear  because  that  could  be  important  people  and  a  good  first  impression  is  important  ,  and  it’s  important  to  uphold  one’s  established  reputation.  He’s  polite  and  restrained  in  this  situations.  Many  people  have  heard  of  him  ,  he  has  to  play  his  part.  He  HAS  to  be  perfect  ,  he  has  to  be  flawless.  That’s  the  mindset  his  childhood  established  in  him.
But  for  a  group  of  people  he’s  familiar  with  ?  Then  another  side  of  Vil  starts  to  show  up.  He  can  relax  more  in  these  situations  ,  he’s  not  as  rigid  (  although  much  of  his  smooth  movements  as  discussed  in  #1  remain  from  habit  )  and  he  can  speak  more  freely.  It’s  less  a  socially-dictated  behavior  and  more  of  who  he  really  is.  He  can  be  playful  or  sarcastic  or  express  disapproval  without  everyone  watching.  And  with  friends  and  those  close  to  him  ,  he  can  also  step  back  from  the  spotlight  because  these  are  who  he’s  comfortable  around.  He  can  be  proud  ,  albeit  jealousy  can  sometimes  flare  up  but  in  general  ,  he’s  fine  because  they’re  not  ‘competition’  like  a  stranger  is  ,  or  not  in  the  same  way.
27. What do they strongly like and dislike, in any category? Why?
Anything  that  involves  him  getting  super  dirty  he  does  not  like.  You  will  not  catch  him  mud  racing  or  anything  like  that.  This  face  ?  Getting  dirty  with  mud  ?  No.  Extremely  physical  events  are  also  not  something  he  enjoys.  A  game  of  dodgeball  is  one  thing.  An  extreme  triathlon  ?  He’ll  sit  on  the  sidelines  thank  you.
Vil  ,  as  i’ve  mentioned  ,  enjoyed  costume  /  outfit  making  ,  hairstyling/cutting  ,  cosmetics  ,  the  ‘nonsurprising’  activities. But  Vil  also  strongly  enjoys  fencing  and  it  quite  skilled  at  it.  He’s  been  training  since  he  was  little  ,  but  he  doesn’t  flaunt  that  skill.  People’s  faces  are  so  entertaining  when  they’re  surprised  and  find  out.  He  also  enjoys  dancing  and  learning  different  styles  !
It  depends  on  the  subject  at  hand.  When  it  comes  to  people  ,  he’d  rather  be  briefed  and  then  observe  himself.  When  it  comes  to  new  cultures  ,  Vil  likes  to  observe  and  then  immerse  himself  in  it  (  if  it’s  one  that  he  finds  beauty  in.  )  to  truly  learn  and  experience  it.   When  it  comes  to  classes  ,  Vil  often  does  a  lot  of  research  ,  reading  ,  and  note  taking  ,  and  then  does  experiments  for  new  beauty  products  based  off  that.  In  science  or  math  classes  ,  he  likes  to  see  and  be  hands  on  ,  but  in  most  others  he’s  fine  to  simply  read  the  material   and  often  does  like  to  discuss  it  ,  especially  literature.

How To Achieve World Peace (2020)
I have figured out a few things that explain common phenomena in society but are routinely overlooked.
I can explain why conservatives and liberals have always existed, and why conservatives are often in power. I can explain ‘black sheep’ of families and why almost everyone has a ‘weird aunty’ or a ‘weird uncle.’ I can explain why artists are so often depressed, so creative and so misunderstood. I can explain conformity and non-conformity. I can explain Michael Jackson’s attraction to shiny things, and everything else about him.
The thing to remember is that we are animals like all the others, and that our evolutionary history shaped us — not culture. People who think culture is stronger hold that individuals choose their preferences in life, which is false. People choose the things they do because they’re programmed that way by evolution, and it is not one size fits all.
There are two main sorts of humans on the earth: family types (making up at least 80% of the population) and leaders (making up the rest).
Family types evolved to survive, raise families and do exactly what their parents did. For this reason they are conservative, incurious (because any new thing is a potential threat to existing conditions), blinkered and have a practical and deductive intelligence rather than a synthetic and inductive one. Leaders are explorers — their education never ends. Their permanent curiosity ensures they are forever exploring, making new connections and forming new hypotheses.
Without this neat ~80/20 balance, human society would not progress. Without the leaders, no new inventions would be created and we’d all still be living in caves. Without family types, nothing could be instantiated and there would be anarchy. Nature or God or whatever is responsible for the order we see in the universe worked this ideal ratio out so that beings could develop and differentiate and proliferate — basically, to make manifest the creativity of the universe.
I remember a few years ago reading Satoshi Kanazawa’s book The Intelligence Paradox, wherein he describes the traits of people with above-average intelligence: they are usually night owls, are less likely to marry and have kids, enjoy experimenting with drugs, are highly curious and creative. I think he was fired from Psychology Today for stating his findings. Ah, political correctness getting in the way of science, again.
Growing up I noticed a pattern in every family I encountered: the parents were normal enough (after all, they were parents), one child was robust and similar to the parents, and the other was a highly sensitive, interesting and curious type. If there were more than two children, there were more robust types than sensitive types.
Growing up I had a hell of a time in my family. I loved staying up late reading, writing and playing music. I loved the night so much that I covered my windows during the day, which is something Jimi Hendrix also did. My parents were dismayed and couldn’t understand why I was so different to them. I also liked going out for days, exploring and experimenting. I was, of course, extremely artistic from the beginning. I understood concepts at school very quickly, and got in trouble for breaking the rules and prioritising my own ideals over that of my superiors.
All these behaviours label children, and the adults they become, ‘troublemakers’ and rebels. “Why can’t they just behave?” parents and teachers lament. Well, because evolution programmed them that way. But back then I would’ve utilised a far shorter answer.
Leader types, being highly sensitive, experience the discord of growing up in families of followers very intensely and in far higher resolution. If a father is strict and domineering, the sensitive child will feel he is ruled by a tyrant. Off-handed criticisms will be stab wounds that are nursed for years and years. Their deep processing will have them mulling and stewing over the slightest things that followers forget in the very next moment.
Thousands of years ago, human tribes had to hunt animals, gather foods, build shelters, live in the shelters and raise families. Distinct human types evolved to carry out these different tasks.
Leaders are the hunting and exploring type. They were the ones who went out, probably at night, to look for food. To be good at this, they had to be highly sensitive so they could hear every noise, smell every smell, feel the vaguest touch on their skin and see the slightest movement. They had to be brave and bold to explore scary places. They had to be graceful and silent as cats to sneak up on prey, but aggressive enough to actually kill. They had to have loud, developed voices in order to communicate with other members of the hunting party. They had to be confident of their own opinion and communicate it effectively to others in order to lead.
They also had to be able to imitate other animals they encountered, to seem less threatening. They also had to be ingratiating in order to win the trust of people they only just met — and they would have met many people on their travels. They had to be highly adaptable to quickly get used to ever-changing environments. They had to be physically robust and agile to withstand the rigours of their itinerant hunting life. They developed the classic rolling stone’ personality — Jimi couldn’t stand being in the same place for three months, let alone years. They also needed great and detailed memories, to remember where they’d been.
With their keen vision they would spot anomalous objects in the environment — shiny things might indicate water, and colourful things (especially red and yellow) would indicate food. Look at the colours and shiny things Michael wears and is attracted to. Watching him shopping is literally watching a leader type hunting in the forest thousands of years ago.
Their sensitivity is responsible for their artistry. As I read somewhere (possibly in Elaine Aron’s book The Highly Sensitive Person), not all highly sensitive people are geniuses, but all geniuses are highly sensitive. Charles Darwin lined his room with cork to keep the noise out. Jimi, as mentioned, covered his windows with black fabric. All this is to minimise stimulation. Because highly sensitive people take in so much more information from their environment, and process it so much more deeply, they need to restrict it only to what is most important to them.
Being a night owl, as Kanazawa found in his research, was related to higher intelligence. Much hunting probably occurred at night, when the animals were about, or it was easier to travel without being seen. The peace and stillness of the night also minimises stimulation for highly sensitive leader types. Intelligence itself is required to make connections between disparate phenomena, entertain several possible explanations, and synthesise information to decide on a verdict and course of action. The activity of hunting would have honed the intelligence of leader types. Any kind of physical bodily movement and coordination increases brain power — dancing for example. Moving the body in space. I relate this to moving ideas around in one’s head. This is how I did philosophy at university: I literally saw concepts as interacting forms in my mind. Einstein also thought in visual-spatial terms.
Something fascinating about stimulation is that leader types seem to become rapidly overwhelmed by experiences that family types consider quite routine and harmless, but at the same time, they crave intense stimulation. Paradoxical personalities, innit? Clearly, not all stimulation is created equal: a normal day in an office as an employee would be intense and overwhelming for a leader, but then they go out at night, attracted by the bright lights and shiny things of the city, loud music and the stage, and crowds.
A hypothesis of mine is that leader types are born with ‘happy’ neurotransmitter deficits. The strong correlation of substance use and abuse with artists, I think, is related to this deficit. In general, almost everything that makes us feel good — no matter what type of animal you are — does so because it fulfils some evolutionary prerogative. Leader types evolved to be sad — is what I’m saying. They are naturally sad. Therefore, they are forced to do things of a specific kind to alleviate that sadness. Michael is really good at being sad, but he’s also really good at alleviating that sadness. Drugs, alcohol, excitement, driving fast, athletics, dancing, bright colours, shiny things, movement, strong sunlight, making people feel and do things, eating certain foods, exploring, romance, helping and educating people, learning, discovering, conquering, mystery — all of these things alleviate the natural depression of the leader type. Fasting, too. What could more blatantly inspire a person to go out and hunt, besides hunger? Both Michael and myself had anorexia, but his was more extreme perhaps because he was more sensitive or his upbringing was more damaging, and he was constantly in the spotlight. But apart from the self-soothing reason, and the aesthetic reason (wanting a “dancer’s body”), I think we literally like to be hungry, as it were. I do believe he said, in his delightful hyperbole: “I hate food.” It keeps us searching. Anything that inspires a leader type to go out and be a leader will feel good, because that’s what nature wants us to do.
Mystery is integral for the leader type. It’s one of the main motivators of action and a guarantee of happiness and flourishing. I finally understand the propensity for this type to entertain idealistic romances and muses. Try making a person give up something that guarantees them happiness! As C. S. Lewis said so well “Desiring desire is the fullest possession we can know.” I finally understand this. What I want is to be in a state of desire, because it’s animating, life-giving, exciting. Why else would I love improvising so much? I love the mystery of not knowing what will come out of my guitar, what I will sing, or what dance moves I will come up with. I love mystery so much that all my essays are pretty much streams of consciousness.
Everything is on a spectrum, including family type/leader proclivity, and gender too. Effeminate men prefer masculine women; masculine men prefer feminine women. It’s all about balancing genetics to bring about the best complementarity. Who you’re attracted to is not a choice. Those with feminine hips are attracted to masculine hips; those with deep-set eyes are attracted to protuberant eyes; square-jaws are attracted to heart-shaped jaws; pinched-in cheeks are attracted to smoother, convex cheekbones. You can set your watch by this stuff.
Leader types also tend to be gender-indeterminate, or “in the middle” with respect to the male-female spectrum. This gives them the best of both worlds — e.g. deep empathy and nurture from the female side, and single-minded determination and action from the male. I do not think this is a degeneracy. Rather, in my view it is actually a requirement for leader types. To be too male or too female would be a hindrance for a leader.
In politics, there will always be conservatives and liberals, and more conservatives than liberals, because these represent the two primary types of humans, and their ratio, on earth.
The way to achieve world peace is to acknowledge the two broad types. Both are necessary for the survival and continuation of the human species. Conflict can seed change, but oftentimes we could do with a little less conflict and a little more understanding. Understanding of the millennia-old biology of our species that is — not politically correct ‘tolerance’. We need to understand things instead of merely tolerating them.
But the sobering reality is that family types can never fully understand leaders, and leaders can never fully understand family types. Each has a very different evolutionary prerogative that is very deeply ingrained. For one to understand the other, the one needs to literally inhabit the physical body of the other — which is currently impossible. Type ‘goes all the way down’ — the nervous system is different, the brain is different, the emotions are different, the values are different — everything is different.
This is why ‘black sheep’ — a derogatory term that betrays a lack of understanding on the part of the family types (but it is after all in their nature to demonise difference because it is threatening) — get along better with friends, aunties and uncles and other leaders unrelated to them instead of their own families. And it’s interesting that they’re called ‘black’: I have noticed highly sensitive leader types do often wear black, and I think this is to minimise stimulation. It’s one less item for them to process.
This is why certain kids act out at school, and why every person I admire from Debussy to Miles Davis to Isadora Duncan to Walt Disney quit the schools they were at. This is why Michael left the Jacksons and struck out on his own. This is why Zappa stayed up all night drinking coffee making the music he wanted to hear regardless of what other people thought about it.
This is also why the majority of people — the followers — shun, disbelieve and are afraid of leader types. The reason J. K. Rowling had to pitch her book to 200 publishers was because she saw the value of her work, but the publishers — who aren’t leaders — could not. The more innovative a thing, the less followers can comprehend its value. Followers are biologically programmed to play it safe and not take risks. This is infuriating for leaders, but the solution is not anger, but rather perseverance. Think of J. K. being turned away from the 199th publisher. Perseverance. Bang on long enough about something and family types will eventually stop feeling threatened because now you’re part of the furniture.
Another paradoxical thing about family types feeling threatened by leaders is that leaders are, in almost every instance, seeking to make the world a better place with their works. Think of Tesla. Leaders need family types — the two are in symbiosis — so it is definitely not in a leader’s interests to harm their followers. They are shepherds, not wolves. Empathy for their pack is high, because a leader who doesn’t care for their flock will not be followed for long. The extremely high degree of similarity between myself and Michael can be, to a great extent, explained by the fact that we are of the same human type (and probably share some genetics too). He has all the characteristic leader type qualities: he’s highly sensitive, an artist and a musician, he’s obsessed with the way people and animals move and is very curious. He loves bright colours and shiny things, which are food. I believe he said he loved Disney films so much “I could just eat (them)!” (I told a friend once that his photographs made me hungry; he looked at me like I was insane.) And of course the beautiful — Michael loves beauty — he goes weak in its presence. If there’s something he doesn’t understand, he’s fascinated by it and will obsess over it. He has a highly developed somatic-neuronal ability (that’s my term; I don’t know the correct neurological term), which is why his movements are so fluid and why he can imitate others so easily. He’s both male and female, has a great strong voice, resists authority, is ingratiating and immediately loveable, likes climbing trees and running around, staunchly believes in his own vision and he made looking after his ‘tribe the central mission of his life. He owned thousands of books and was constantly reading, usually by himself. All Michael’s searching made him very knowledgeable, of course. He liked to associate with fellow talented and driven people, from whom he gathered even more leadership advice. Michael’s not messing around — the advice he gives you is the advice he’s given himself. He experiments on himself. He’s a leader — a real leader — so he wants to help. One day I was dancing at home and came up with a certain move. Two weeks later, I happened to be watching a video of Mike’s and saw him do the exact same move. I couldn’t believe it. At the time I came up with it, I had no memory of having seen him do any such move. I was dancing in the mirror, and happened to trace the outline of my thigh with a finger — it was totally spontaneous and improvised. I liked that I was drawing and dancing at the same time — I do draw and dance, so it was exciting for me to do them simultaneously. In his video he was dancing to Dangerous, and he did that move. I thought “So now he’s copying me?!” This kind of thing happens often, and not just in dancing. For example, I’ll have some opinion about something, then later hear that he has the same opinion about that thing. Or I’ll happen to think of something I did when I was a lot younger, and it turns out he did the exact same thing. Then there’s the Star Wars thing, the one glove thing, the cape thing, the cutting the front of our shirts thing, the liking the same colours thing, the gum and TicTac thing, the similar music taste and compositional style thing, the sitting down with one leg or arm stretched out thing, the liking the exact same part of the flight attendant demonstration thing... We even have the same taste in women. Type, type, type. Once you know someone’s type, you can pretty much get out your checklist and starting ticking things off. Although, I don’t at this point know where type ends and genetics begin, because a lot of these similarities must owe to genetics, not type. I’ll work on this.
Being childlike is, I am positing, an integral part of the leader-hunter-HSP type. Mike and I both retained our childlike attitude to the world. For me, I distinctly remember the day I made the decision to never grow up. I was 14, on the basketball courts in junior high school near the end of the day. I thought “It’s just so much fun being a kid, I’m not going to grow up. Why should I?” It was also around that time that I decided what my life’s goal would be, having just read Freud: to be myself. I didn’t want to be a fireman or a lawyer or a teacher — I wanted to be myself, my truest self. Even back then, I knew this was a worthy goal, and I knew that it would be difficult.
Mike famously identified with Peter Pan, and passionately championed a childlike view of the world. He often claimed this was because he was denied a childhood, but I think there’s more at work here than that fact alone. Even if he had had a more normal childhood, he’d still probably have remained pretty childlike, because that’s an integral characteristic of the leader type. Being childlike — being open, innocent, relentlessly curious, able to withhold judgement, and trusting — is essential to being a leader. If leaders weren’t open to new information (i.e. adaptable), etc — they wouldn’t be effective leaders. If a leader didn’t trust his advisors, he couldn’t get anything done. Suspicion is poison.
It’s known that Mike was trusting. He advised his friend Brett Ratner that one of the big lessons he learned was “not to trust everybody in the industry; there are a lot of sharks.” But a person who is naturally trusting has a hard time trying to become the opposite, let me tell you. To be trusting is beautiful; when a trusting person is betrayed, it is not they who have erred.
It has fascinated me over my lifetime to observe the way sexual desire can be completely decoupled from child-rearing. Leader types definitely have sexual desire: just think of Jimi. Mike too, Madonna, Greta Garbo, Picasso. With men it’s fairly straight-forward, but I always wondered how female leaders could get away with it, seeing as they’d be having so many children but no desire to look after them — clearly a less-than-ideal situation. Maintaining a pregnancy and then a baby would definitely slow them down and make them vulnerable to attack. Nature may have solved this problem by making leader types infertile. After all, their genes will be passed on via their siblings’ children, so there’s no need for them to do it personally. It prevents overpopulation. And besides, their legacy is cultural innovation, not physical progeny. Some say that Mike was infertile. It could well be that this is by nature’s design.
Barbara Sher calls leader types ‘scanners’. Scanners are people who flit from one thing to the next, seemingly at random, are reading 50 books at any one time, and change careers frequently — you get the idea. But my contention is that leader types do this in order to get the best ‘lay of the land’. If they didn’t, if they were a specialist in some tiny nook of expertise, what would they know about the world? Nothing! All they’d know is their little area (which there’s nothing wrong with by the way, it’s just not the scanner approach). Scanners scan. They try to get the best view of everything — figuratively and literally.
I know this type is rare, but I don’t know how rare. I’ve certainly never encountered anyone as similar to me before, but then I don’t know everyone. Surely a person with such obvious and anomalous qualities would rise to prominence, almost by default. They’re generally in art, but not just anywhere. They’re in the ‘I’m either myself or dead’ camp. Michael’s well-known because he’s well-known, and because he so strongly felt the need to share his values with the world, he thereby revealed himself. There could be many of us. Some may prefer to remain unknown. I don’t know yet.
As I said before, everything is on a spectrum, so you could be a more or less extreme leader type, and a more or less extreme family type. There may be sub-types. The ‘lone wolf’ is an extreme leader type. Aldous Huxley said “The more original and powerful a mind, the more inclined it is to the religion of solitude.” I think lone wolves relate best to other lone wolves; other types will simply be too different. They’re introverted because there’s a whole world inside their heads, and much of the outside input they’d encounter would actually hinder their progress. As a leader, stepping outside of the leader pack can be incredibly demoralising. Out there, there's a flattening going on. If you have a sleepover with kids, all of a sudden it's about sex. If you say the n word, it's suddenly all about race. And you think, “Why is everything about sex and race? Are there not more things to discuss? Develop some granularity in your approach already!” The flattening is in full swing at the moment, with so many red herrings slapping around that you can’t hear yourself think. (Contemplating that kinda makes me hungry... All those shiny fish...) Maybe the majority do this in order to feel safer: if they can reduce indeterminate phenomena to something simple, then they can feel like they know what they're dealing with. Simplify and blame. It’s a stupid game, and so boring. I'm not at all surprised that artists feel the need to invent entirely new worlds to escape this shit.
So there you have it: there is a naturalistic, evolutionary explanation for so many of the specific human behaviours that we observe in society. The choices people make are, in large part, due to their evolutionary type. Encountering Michael was the icing on my cake of investigation, because I reasoned there had to be an explanation as to why we’re so similar and I knew that it wasn’t due to mere chance.
So if you’re a sensitive, introverted kid who likes doing their own thing and your family gives you hell for being strange and different — for God’s sake, understand that there’s nothing wrong with you. Nothing at all. You’ve been designed to be the way you are over millions of years of evolution, because this is the only way humanity can work. You are the reason we have electricity, cars, great works of art, beautiful films and music, incredible dancers and athletes, mathematics, poetry, physics, philosophy, engineering, comfortable houses and beds, heating, space exploration, wonderful stories and the rule of law. All of these things were invented by leader types. The most important thing is to know who you are. It’s Quincy Jones’ first rule too. Once you know that, you will make much better decisions in all areas of your life. “A guy can dig ditches and enjoy it”, as Jimi said. If you want to be happy and effective, you must be doing things that align with your particular nature.
Don’t waste years doing things other people tell you to do. What do they know about you, anyway? Do they know your deepest desires? No they don’t, because to discover them is long, personal work. No-one can do it for you. Your mum can’t do it for you. I don’t care if she’s your mother and she wants the best for you -- she’s not you. Don’t do things for extrinsic rewards like money or fame. I recall reading a teacher who complained that all his kids just want to be famous, but then he asked them “Famous for what?” People who become famous do so because they’re passionate and obsessed with something and thereby become very good at it. Don’t desire to be famous, desire to become obsessed with something. Fall in love with something. Then you’ll probably become famous anyway, but by then you won’t care, because all you want to do is the thing you’re obsessed with.
But family types are essential too. Just because they don’t innovate, they create a stable society in which everyone — including leader types — can live. They create and maintain order, follow instructions and implement your ideas. They start families and actually create the people society needs, including all future leaders.
The two types must know about, respect and be thankful for each other, for neither could live without the other.
Masses of conflict rage each day because people think that other people act the way they do by choice. But things are so incredibly ingrained, that it’s quite absurd to think that anyone makes any kind of choice. We do have free will, but can only exercise it to the point our fundamental orientation allows. Can’t fight one’s nature, as Orwell said. Fight it too long and she’ll make you pay, with your health or your life.
It is apparent to me that my entire discussion has remained completely materialistic. I’ve not touched upon so-called ‘supernatural’ phenomena at all. I don’t like the term ‘supernatural’ because, if something exists, it is natural — no matter how perplexing or odd, everything is Nature, everything is natural. It’s not like the earth and its rocks are natural, and then precognition of the future and witnessing midnight processions of long-deceased people — as Jung and others did, centuries apart mind you — are outside of the natural. Everything is natural. If it happened, it was natural, and there is an explanation.
Now it might seem boring to learn that all these things in fact have a boring materialistic explanation. But as usual, there are many more things that we don’t yet know. The perplexing nature of time, for example. I suspect that time is very different to how most people conceive of it, but that discussion is for another time.
Back to the strictly material. A few hundred years of culture won’t put a dent in millennia of evolution. Culture is itself an outgrowth of evolution, and it needs to humbly acknowledge this fact instead of thinking that now it is king. The patterns and drives of Nature are king, and they explain everything. DS 06-07/2020

ISLAM 101: Spirituality in Islam: Part 57
Wujud (Finding and Existence)
Part 1
Rather, finding and existence denote the finding of Him with His truth beyond all concepts of modality, as referred to in, O son of Adam, seek Me that you may find Me,[1] and some allegorical sayings of the Prophet, upon him be peace and blessings. Abu’l Hasan al-Nuri[2] expresses the state of those who have reached this point vividly: “I have been going to and fro between finding and losing for twenty years.
In fact, all of existence is nothing more than a shadow or a manifestation of the Names and Attributes of the Unique One, the Eternally-Besought-of-All. Travelers favored with the knowledge of the truth behind things and events sometimes go into a state where they experience only His absolute Existence to such a degree that they become completely lost in It and all other existent beings disappear from their sight. Although this is a state experienced spiritually, it is sometimes reduced to a mere philosophical view or to a matter of speculation, in imitation of others who have experienced this state spiritually, and it can be confused with several other approaches, such as the Unity of the Witnessed, Monism, and Pantheism. Although a discussion of these approaches and their substantial difference from the Unity of Being is not among the topics which will be discussed in The Emerald Hills of the Heart, it would be useful to note some of the important points, as this is a matter open to misunderstanding and misrepresentation.
Existence is related to being and/or identity, nature and the existent beings themselves, and is unquestionably manifest. This is a view shared by numerous Muslim thinkers, as well as by many modern philosophers. However, existence is different from the existent beings, identity, and nature. Identity and nature must be conceived of before existence. For example, we can conceive of an amount of water with its identity and nature, even if it does not exist here. Its existence is additional and accidental to its being or identity. Something cannot exist without its essential qualities being combined with certain accidental elements. As regards our example, different states and qualities of water are additional to its essential being or identity. Although the essential identity always remains as it was, without any changes, accidental and additional qualities can be replaced with similar others. Water, while remaining as water in essence, can change into ice or vapor.
Just as a physical substance like water has an essential identity and nature, metaphysical beings have also an essential identity and nature. However, in saying this, we should not confuse the Being Whose Existence is Essential and Absolutely Necessary with contingent beings. Muslim thinkers have accepted the Absolutely Necessary Existence as the Being Who is Absolutely and Uniquely Self-Existent, and have also agreed that His Being is absolutely free from requiring a nature or a form or a composition; need is essential to all other beings whose existence is contingent and created. The Self-Existent One is free from such accidental qualities. It is not permissible to associate the Necessarily Existent One with a different, additional nature or existence. We cannot even conceive of nor mention such a possibility with regard to Him; it would be supposing the inconceivable to be conceivable to explain the question.
It is He Who is discerned in the universe. All things, each individually and all as a whole, are signs of His Existence. Things and events run in a gurgling flow and clearly point to Him at every juncture of their being. In one respect, the universe and humanity are the of the continuity of this flow, and human consciousness is that which hears, views, and reviews it.
From this perspective, all existence (creation) comes from Him and continuously flows like a river with uninterrupted manifestations. Because of the order, coherence, and speed of this flow, we cannot discern the interruptions in our nature or in the lives of things. Since the “film” of things and events is projected extremely swiftly and the very thin lines between the frames on the film strip cannot be discerned, we cannot feel the alternation of coming into existence and disappearing. Like separate pictures on a film being projected on a screen, things and events are projected on the screen of existence, one after the other, but we cannot discern the lines separating the frames.
They come and go, one after the other, with the only Unique One remaining; That which comes, goes, and that which goes does not come back again: this is a mystery.
Those who cannot penetrate this mystery spend their lives like an insensate person, who cannot see, hear, or feel anything. While others who have familiarity with this mystery sometimes refer to vision or to witnessing when observing the creation, they sometimes mention only the absolute Existence in interpreting their observation, or they sometimes utter some words that are apparently incompatible with the rules of the Shari’a that suggest union and incarnation. They do this because of their inability to find words that express their vision and discovery. It will even sometimes happen that there appears a person who is stuck in monism and who commits great sins by seeing the absolute Existence as if it were a permeating spirit that manifested itself as the creation. It is possible that the universe may be viewed as an image or a shadow, as it is a reflection of the Light of the absolute Existence, and that things and events, including humanity, can be seen as being unstable, transitory images. However, this does not by any means imply that the universe is He. The truth is that it is He Who eternally exists without anything else eternally existing with Him. He willed the objects or identities in His eternal Knowledge to be clothed in an external, sensible existence in accordance with the measures He determined for them. This happened along with or within time and space; in other words, time and space began or appeared together with His bringing forth the objects or identities existing in His Knowledge into external existence. He observes the manifestations of His Existence that are indescribable and beyond-all-concept with the eyes of others–the creatures He has created. He favors everything with the rank of being a polished mirror to Him.
He has done all this with the single command “Be!” and with this command He has clothed the archetypes in external existence and displayed them in different forms. As He has done all this with a single command, He can destroy everything in a moment with another single command.
He said “Be!” once and the whole universe was; If He says, “Do not exist any longer!” everything will immediately be destroyed.
Since the universe did not exist eternally along with Him and since it was brought into existence by His peerless, inimitable creation, and since it continues to exist by His Sustaining, then its existence is relative and dependent and can be viewed as being essentially non-existent. Everything owes its existence and subsistence to Him absolutely. The Eternally Existent One willed that His perfections be observed in innumerable mirrors and so created existence as a shadow of the shadow of His Knowledge and Existence; this has included us as a part of creation. Our identities as “I,” “you”, and “he” or “she” had not been thoroughly distinguished with respect to our existence in His Knowledge. Destiny or His “Pre-Determination” identified us as individuals, and His Power clothed us in our “ego,” thus distinguishing and bringing us into external, sensible existence as complete individuals with different natures particular to each one of us. As He has manifested on us all His Attributes, He has entrusted us with a restricted will-power. He has also endowed us with different potentials which we can develop or realize as abilities. He has determined goals for us according to our abilities and endowed us with inclinations to realize those goals and has given us the ability to make use of or direct these inclinations. Thus, in addition to His Attributes of Knowledge and Existence, which He has manifested on us, He has also honored us with the manifestations of His other Attributes. So what behoves us is to willingly resign ourselves to this great, Divinely-willed honor and act accordingly.
Those who attain the horizon of viewing existence in a certain spiritual state regard their existence as essentially non-existent in the face of the essential, absolute, eternal, and everlasting Knowledge and Self-Existence of God. This means the non-acceptance of a transient shadow in the face of an Eternally Self-Existent One. Feeling that the whole of existence is as a single unit is different from that the whole of sensed existence is essentially identical with the absolute Existence. Divine truths are never the same as relative truths. Although the Divine Names and Attributes, such as God (Allah), the All-Merciful (al-Rahman), and the All-Providing (al-Razzaq) seem to point to a single truth concerning the Being called by or described by these, they are different both from the perspective of the concept to which each points and the impression that each causes to rise in minds. For this reason, one who has true, substantial knowledge of God considers the relation between the Truly Existent One and other beings whose existence is relative and dependent in proper terms, and observes the true criteria in thinking, while those who are in a certain state of experience and spritiual pleasure may lapse into confusion.

Operation Miroh | Stray Kids Mafia! AU ~ Chapter 0.8 The Eighth Kim Seungmin
Tumblr media
Warnings: Major Character Injury, Light Swearing
A/N: I’m particularly proud of this one. Can you spot the references to all the SKZ members and the two references to previous chapters?
Kim Seungmin has always been a chaotic evil. He enjoys destroying stuff much to his childhood friend’s, Felix, dismay whose block towers and sand castles have fallen victim to Seungmin’s destruction.
As he got older, his love for destruction never left him. At a tender age of 10, Seungmin experienced fireworks. He couldn’t help himself from sneaking a firecracker deep within Felix’s block tower.
Seungmin got a broken arm that day courtesy of the resident freckled Australian.
When Seungmin went into university, he joined the chemistry club after discovering his love or several different metal oxides from dismantling every firework he owned.
Seungmin was by no means an idiot. (Unlike Felix.) Seungmin was practically a math genius practically rivaling the Australian cripple and barely surpassing the genius rich kid. Seungmin would be higher up on the class rankings, but he wasn’t as well knowledged in the other subjects as the top 2. Combining this as well as his chemistry knowledge, Seungmin was able to calculate the different amount of elements, their molarity and isotopes to create a reaction of various degrees and potency at will on the fly.
Even though Seungmin was thoroughly in awe with the reactions he’s able to create, Seungmin has a very well adapted near vision. He’s able to notice all the little details. He noticed how certain chemicals and elements go missing. He noticed some chemistry nut who seemed to enjoy gas make a subtle gesture to the resident pickpocketer. He noticed how the little shit has been swiping several chemicals with a sleight of hand. Impressive Seungmin must admit, but not impressive enough to escape Seungmin’s calculative gaze. Seungmin had a brilliant idea.
Seungmin cornered the pickpocketer one day.
“Listen here, you little shit,” Seungmin smirked smacking his arm by his head against the wall fully pinning the squirrel like boy. Seungmin caught him stealing a few bucks from the school campus 2nd ranking rich kid. He tried to sweet talk Seungmin, but Seungmin’s natural knack for inductive and deductive reasoning granted immunity towards his honey words.
He had successfully blackmailed the blackmailer.
In exchange for silence, the squirrel now stole metal oxides for Seungmin.
He made a delicate acquaintance with the smoke obsessed chemistry student and through him, a medic/engineering student. The three awkwardly agreed to share the basement space in exchange for each other’s silence.
Seungmin was getting bored of the weak campus oxides. One night while heading home from his rather explosive experiments, he noticed one of the rich kids on campus who practically only owned black clothing trying to hide a RPG. He did a splendid job hiding it Seungmin noted, but not good enough to escape Seungmin’s gaze.
Seungmin has successfully acquired a second blackmail victim.
Seungmin formed a delicate friendship with the rich kid’s dealer. He saw pain hidden behind the bright smile, but he never mentioned it.
Seungmin made a proposal. The red head agreed. Custom made rifles for explosives and gunpowder. He started seeing a genuine smile from the redhead.
Seungmin smiled. He was now able to make bigger and better explosions from such a seemingly small amount of reactants.
Unlike his chemistry acquaintance, Seungmin did not need to experiment
Seungmin knows it will be perfect, because it is.
Seungmin knows no good can come from his hobby, but it made him happy. That’s all that mattered to him.

11. How are they vocally expressive? What kind of voice, accent, tones, inflections, volume, phrases and slang, and manner of speaking do they use?
as a natural SILVERTONGUE, sliske’s voice and tone are weapons of their own, and he makes good use of them often to persuade and confuse others. his voice naturally is wise and seductive, even when reading the driest of texts. for the sake of bending to canon a little ( and rs is a british based game ), you could say sliske has a british accent, received pronunciation, annoyingly posh at times despite the guttural, flanging reverb-like sound that comes from being divine. he also is good with mimicry of other’s voices; comes as an addition to being a shapeshifter. it takes A LOT to push him to curse aloud, it’s very amusing when he does have to say ‘fuck’, as the majority of his curses and insults are accent-based ( bloody, bollocks, prat, etc ). i personally voice claim him as a.ntho.ny ho.pkins since there’s not a lot of voice acting in rs that i care for. yes, slinky has a VA but if canonly, this guy talks people out of their religions and into self-sacrifice, he should sound like it. tonally, sliske will always be OVERWHELMINGLY alluring and captivating, but really perceptive individuals will catch something off, a warning scratching at the inside of their skull.
14. , 20. , 24. answered!
33. How do they learn about the world–what is their preferred learning style? Hands-on learning with trial and error? Research, reading, and note-taking? Observation or rote memorization? Inductive or deductive reasoning? Seeking patterns and organization? Taking things apart and putting them back together? Creative processing via discussing, writing about, or dramatizing things?
sliske has a constant thirst for knowledge and enjoys delving deep into some of the most esoteric of forbidden and hidden knowledge. even if it goes beyond ethics at times. i mean, he also is a necromancer, after all. he relishes hands-on learning by taking things apart for study just as much as he enjoys privately reading and sketching schematics out. any learning process to him is valid and considered. he’s skilled in most sciences, some philosophies, botany, and takes a heavy interest in learning animal husbandry and crafting due to exhausting challenges up in sciences.

Things I’ve learned so far...
...from mbti blogs and articles online.
As an infj, I’ve read a lot about the type to help me understand myself. Recently I haven’t been feeling too good and was trying to figure out what may be the underlying causes for these mental issues. Not saying that mbti is an antidote for mental health, but it has helped me become more aware of myself and potential areas for growth and deterioration.
Anywho, here are some things that I found to be the most helpful:
1. The Cognitive Functions!
Honestly, if you are into mbti and have not read the functions, you are at a loss! ...and probably do not fully understand your type (or even worse, mistyped yourself). The problem with online type tests is that they don’t usually explain cognitive functions well or skip them al-together. The results generally give you some spectrum of each of the letters (I/E, S/N, F/T, P/J) instead of the 8 cognitive functions (Ni/Ne, Si/Se, Ti/Te, Fi/Fe). *(See below for brief descriptions of the functions and links to further readings). I find this presentation misleading and likely contribute to mistypings and misunderstanding of the types.
For example, after I took an online mbti test, I wondered if I was mistyped since I identified with the descriptions of infp’s as well. If you just look at the letters, the only difference is j vs. p so it seems very likely that I mistyped. BUT, if you look at the cognitive functions, things become more clear:
- infj: Ni Fe Ti Se | infp: Fi Ne Si Te
So these two seemingly alike types have completely opposite functions. I think often the NF’s (infj, infp, enfj, enfp) get mixed up easily if you just look at the letters and descriptions because they all care deeply about humanity and want to help others. But upon closer inspection, you realize that that they have different cognitive processes that lead them to similar personality traits.
Reading about these functions in depth can also help you type other people. I like typing other people to figure out how to get along with them better and possible areas for conflict. And it’s also just interesting to me since I like deep analyses of people.
*A brief description of the functions:
Ni: introverted intuition - uses unconscious processes to come to singular conclusions and possibilities (like laser points all shooting at one target); often “just know” but can’t explain how arrived at such answers
Ne: extroverted intuition - uses unconscious processes to come to multiple conclusions and possibilities (like one laser point shooting at multiple targets); often scattered in thoughts and ideas but excellent at brainstorming
Si: introverted sensing - uses past knowledge (especially details!) based on personal experiences to come to conclusions; often grounded in reality and excellent at remembering details
Se: extroverted sensing - uses physical senses to gather information from the present to understand the world; focused on the “here and now” and stimulated by the outside world
Ti: introverted thinking - uses internal logic and frameworks to process information and come to conclusions (from theory to observation/deductive); values logical consistency and precision
Te: extroverted thinking - uses personal experiences and factual grounding to process information and come to conclusions (from observation to theory/inductive); values efficiency and practicality
Fi: introverted feeling - uses personal values and moral code to make decisions; clear understanding of personal feelings and unbudging sense of right and wrong
Fe: extroverted feeling - uses empathy and understanding to generate harmony and reduce conflict; in tune with other people’s feelings and work to maintain harmony

2. Intuitive/Sensor Perspectives!
I found this to be especially helpful in clearing up why I don’t get along with other people (who, most of the time, are sensors).
I think intuitives can harbor a lot of bitter feelings against sensors since the world is built to fit them more. For example, I find some sensors to be judgmental of anything out of the ordinary, close-minded and have zero interest in abstract concepts. Internally, I’m like: “AHHH WHY CAN’T YOU THINK BEYOND WHAT YOU SEE AND EXPERIENCE!” I’m sure many intuitives relate to me on this one.
Sensors, however, see it differently: they are just trying to get by the days and some intuitive shows up and tries to disrupt peace they worked hard to maintain. The next thing you know they bring some intangible ideas to the table and complicate a previously-simple task.
I mean, imagine you were a child again and you just built the most wonderful sand castle on the beach (in fact, the best one yet). You defended it even from some nasty seagulls and crabs. Then here comes another kid strutting in and before you know it, they not only knock over your castle but also rebuilt it completely against your design in some weird, defying-physics type of way.
Annnd, that’s how a sensor feels when intuitives push too hard against their established worldview/values/structure, etc.
Now that I’ve read more about sensors, I can appreciate them more (even SJ’s!) and understand where they are coming from. I can see how intuitives can be challenging to be with. Sensors strive when there’s stability, norms and structures. Intuitives can disrupt all of this by popping in and be like “what if...?”. Lol. Especially since our ideas can be abstract and lack factual or tangible grounding. I’m learning how to communicate my ideas better to sensors by giving real-world examples and working out at least some of the logistical details of my ideas before presenting them.
Sensors are also the most reliable people I know (esp. SJ’s)! When they say, they do. They are rarely fickle and will stick with you to the end.
SP’s are great at staying in the present world. While we intuitives are lost in our daydreams, they can pull us out and just enjoy the moment for once. It makes us appreciate the world more.
They also offer intuitives real-world grounding so that we don’t get carried away with outlandish ideas. It’s like a swift clean cut to your unrealistic, unproductive dreams that probably won’t amount to anything anyway. Harsh, but helps us keep on track. STJ’s are especially helpful, since they are no-nonsense and quick-to-the-point, won’t coddle you like SFJs. But of course there’s the STJ trademark blindness to sensitivity, so before I was more mature in understanding my feelings and STJs, I was very reactionary against their advice (still kinda am, but at least I’m considering them more before rejecting them).
I hope that sensors and intuitives will be able to get along better by understanding each other’s perspectives and processes.I think a part of growth for all the types involve this understanding to some extent. Mature sensors and intuitives can learn a great deal from each other!
