Theo was born to his father Tiberius Nott and his mother Selene. Tiberius is also Theo's middle name (but he heavily resents it)

Theo and Draco essentially grew up together as both of their father's were loyal followers of Voldemort

Theo's father was and still is a Death Eater (however he is forever imprisioned in Azkaban after the second wizarding war)

His mother became sick before he ever attended Hogwarts, around when he was five or so

Her illness was very rare and caused her to slowly lose all of her magic while simultaneously getting weaker and weaker

You would often find Theo at his mother's bedside at St. Mungo's

You wouldn't, however, find Tiberius there as he essentially began disowning his wife as soon as she started to lose her magic

Theo was there when his mother passed (he was about eight), which is why he was one of three students that could see Thestrals his fifth year (the other two being Luna and Harry)

Spending so much time at St. Mungo's is actually what made Theo want to get better at potions

Bby boy was one of 12 students able to continue on to advanced N.E.W.T. level potions

His time at St. Mungo's allowed him to really spend precious time with his mother, hearing her stories and her aspirations for him and getting to see what a kind and loving soul she was

Even though she was growing weaker and losing her own magic

She used their time together to try and teach him as many unique spells and magical oddities that she could

You will often be surprised that Theo knows a spell or how to make a potion because he seems to never be paying attention

While he had to do certain things at the command of his father, deep down Theo is a lover

Theo's rage comes from the loss of his mother and the spite of his father

Never really allowed to process what happened to his mom, Theo bottled those feelings and thus, it comes out as anger and rage (making him a great fighter)

Through and through, Theo is a protector, as that was something he wasn't able to do for his mother

In order to be the best protector he became an excellent observer

Thus, when everyone things Theo is in the background, nodding off or dismissing conversations

He’s actually taking in as much information as possible

Because you never know how useful information can be

All and all, while Theo has a raging RBF, he’s really just observant, protecting and caring

i saw your post and i get where you're coming from as a fellow adult fan, but it's a kids show. the pacing is more than perfect. i recognize that a huge portion of the audience is adult fans who read pjo as a kid, but the show is still a children's show for children. if you look at it for what it is and who it's for, and not what you imagined it to be or for adults like us, the pacing is great. i'm not knocking you for complaining but i just wanted to gently put that out there in case you planned to do in depth analysis https://www.tumblr.com/pftones3482/738896974585184256/people-saying-the-pjo-tv-series-is-just-as-fast

It kind of drives me nuts when people see an adult critique a kids show and say, "Oh well you're an adult, of course it's too fast for you."

I'm a writer. I have a literal degree in writing. I know what good pacing looks like. Book to TV show adaptions will always be paced a little faster, because books just naturally have a lot more exposition. That is a given, and I expected it. TV shows (and movies) also tend to have a lot of scenes cut out that aren't crucial to plot. I also expected that.

I love a lot of things about the new PJO show - I think the way they did Medusa this time was an incredible choice. I love the new tension between Annabeth and her mom, and the parallels between Annabeth and Medusa.

I love that they focused more on Grover's Uncle Ferdinand - I always thought the book kind of glossed over the fact that he was his family, and they didn't really give Grover time to mourn his loss.

But we needed the scene where Percy learns to sword fight with Luke. We need the introduction of ambrosia and nectar - that's a crucial world building element that hasn't been mentioned once. We're missing scenes that really hammer home the kids personalities, and while they've done a pretty good job putting some in (Annabeth scooping all the candy was cute, Grover being grumbly and not a morning person another good one), I feel like they're too focused on moving the plot forward rather than building the world, which is the whole purpose of a first season in a show.

I blame season dropping - even though PJO is a week by week release, it feels like it was written to be an all-at-once season drop. Like every episode I need to instantly jump to the next one.

Also like...I'm not shitting on people who like the series. Again, I think it's cute. I think the actors are doing an incredible job. I think everyone's individual personality fits who their characters are, and I could go on for hours about the detail in the sets.

"The show is for children" children still deserve a well paced show. And frankly, I think the adults who read the books and are pretty well versed in analyzing writing and media are probably the best critics of it.

(This just in - you can be critical of something and still enjoy it. Imagine that)

the book acts like "angsty goth teenager" is her entire character. at page 16 it quite literally lists off the things random would understandably be angry about, but despite this the book acts like shes crazy or immature for being upset with trillian

the way arthur berates her at the end of the sixth book?? the way he tells her she needs to just move on??? that trillian 'just left random with her dad for a week'?? the book is going against itself when it says this. it made that up and it drives me up the WALL!!!!!!!! trillian didnt JUST leave random for a week shes been doing it since random was born!!!!!!! what!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

picking up the sixth book i was so excited to have a whole book with random in it but she ended up being my least favorite part because it was so painful to see how everyone, including the book itself, treated her

(also, i am not saying that i think random shouldnt have faced any consequences or that i cant handle a few teenager jokes. if you havent read the book in a while and you dont remember there being THAT many then you are so incredibly mistaken because theres some teenager joke almost every time they talk about her. stop undermining her with the same jokes about her rolling her eyes or being moody)
