Have you seen all the hate towards Three Houses and complex story that came with Engage?

I've seen more the opposite - 3H fans angry that Engage isn't exactly the same. I'm sure it's going the other way in some places, too, though.

While I'm never reluctant to poke hornets' nests when necessary, right now I'm just enjoying my proverbial popcorn while people whine. I got through Awakening backlash ("IT'S CATERING TO NOOBS AND PEOPLE WHO JUST WANT WAIFUS"), Fates backlash ('WHY ARE THERE CHILDREN??? WHO WROTE THIS SHIT?????" [honestly, I kind of get that one 😅]), Three Houses backlash and drama about routes (SoV didn't get a ton of backlash because all the people who hated new fans/games could pretend it was a superior game simply because it was old)...

You either let it roll off your back like water off a duck, or you die of an aneurism because you're stressing yourself out trying to go Napoleon in Russia over a video game.

You know what I like? I like Fire Emblem. I've liked every one I've played (even Shadow Dragon, the most half-assed remake in history). People having tantrums about Engage aren't going to break into my house and take my game. If they try, I have axes. And cats. And a Wii U I'd almost certainly not miss if I threw it at someone

I'm going to enjoy Engage. Just like I enjoyed FE7, and Sacred Stones, and Shadow Dragon, and Awakening, and -

Well. You get the point.

I do hope some folks who came into the fandom with 3H at least give Engage a chance. Especially because Engage looks like a return to the formula the older games had, and it works. If those people end up liking Engage, they can then delve into older titles!

I also think people need to chill about Engage being some kind of step back for the franchise. It was meant to be a 30th anniversary celebration of the series, ladies and gents, until covid threw the hope of getting it out on time straight into the trash. We'll almost certainly get more 3H-esque depth in future (not that 3H was actually as deep as people like to pretend it was), and likely an FE4 remake at some point (also not as deep as people like to pretend it was 🤷‍♀️).

People can play it, or not. I'll be busy raising Chloé into a pegasus-riding monster. 😁

Which is made even more fascinating because we don't get his POV.#But we get so many insights! this year my challenge for everyone is to unlearn the association between love and morality. love is not something that is inherently morally good, and the absence of love is not something that is inherently bad. sex without love isn't morally bankrupt, it's just an action. people without love aren't less kind or less good, they're just people. when we can get past this false (and often unnoticed) dichotomy of good love/evil lovelessness then i think we are going to be able to take leaps and bounds in sex positivity, aro advocacy, certain discussions of mental health...

#and also. not the direct focus. but love doesn't make things good. you can be in love and do terrible terrible things.#people do bad things in the name of love and in despite of love all the time.#but!! imagine a world where people could exist as people and not be demonized.#sex positivity means being cool about All sex. reexamine your internal systems of moral judgement.#this goes for sex workers. for aroallo people. especially aroallo men. for aro people in general who might enjoy sex.#and frankly i think it can easily bleed into discussions about mental health disorders around 'not feeling' certain things #especially demonizing ppl who don't feel as much empathy. i think there's definitely a correlation between that and the emphasis on love.#our support needs to go out to Everybody and i think these things are all structured together in one way or another!!#it might not be immediately obvious but when i tell you it all leads back to amatonormativity..... little bit wild.... large bit wild....#anyway. horror movie psychopath 'oh he can't feel emotions or love' damn alright. well. let's take a closer look at that.#silly that there's an association between lack of love and Murdering. feel like that might affect some stuff.#love is just an emotion/a feeling it doesn't mean anything about you one way or another #same with empathy. you can feel it all you want but it doesn't inherently change the actions you choose to take #anyway. thesis statement. there is a socially constructed link between love and morality. unlearn that.#kiss kiss (<— lovelessly)#aromantic #aromanticism #arospec #talking #aroace #aspec #sex positivity
