What kinds of content can be submitted? Digital or traditional art, fanfic, poetry, playlists, edits, photos, cosplay, icons, graphics, and/or memes. If you have something in mind that’s not included here, feel free to send us an ask to confirm!

Are trans, nonbinary, and intersex depictions of characters welcome? Always! Any and all characters featured in the content you create for Sapphic Ahsoka Tano Week can be trans, nonbinary, and/or intersex.

Are bisexual/pansexual/polysexual headcanons allowed? Of course! All characters are welcome to be portrayed as any sexual, romantic, or gender identity. Bashing or negativity towards any LGBTQIA+ subgroup will not be tolerated and you will be blocked for interacting with the event.

Are depictions of polycules okay? As long as Sapphic Ahsoka Tano is involved, the more the merrier! For example, JediNiteArmor (Ahsoka/Bo-Katan/Armorer) is allowed, or Kanerasoka (Kanan/Hera/Ahsoka) is allowed.

May I include OCs in my submission? Absolutely, as long as Ahsoka Tano remains the focus of the work.

Can submissions be platonic in nature? Definitely! We only ask that works are Ahsoka-centric, and not sidelining her to focus on other non-Ahsoka ships.

Is content featuring Ahsoka as a kid allowed? No depictions of underage sexual content will be accepted. Light non-explicit romance (i.e. hand-holding, sharing meals, fighting together, hugging, going on dates) is acceptable between TCW era Ahsoka and a peer of her age (i.e. Barriss, Riyo, Steela, Trace). Any sexual content must clearly indicate Ahsoka and her partner are both adults.

Are AUs allowed? Absolutely! You are welcome to create art and stories that do not align with Star Wars canon. 

Is there a word minimum or art completion level required to submit? Nope! Make as much or as little as you like.

Can I use fancasts or character inspirations outside of the actors that play Ahsoka? Yes, but please do not whitewash any of the characters involved. 

Can I post what I create on other social media platforms? Absolutely! While this event week only has an account on Tumblr, you are welcome to share whatever you make to any/all of your other accounts. We may not be there to reblog it formally, but we will be cheering you on!

randomised trope/tag grading game

clearly today is a day of doing memes (i posted a list of 9 favourite books earlier today). i know it's a tuesday and normal people are at work, but i'm writing some posts, hello!

Rules: Generate your own personal list of 10 AO3 tags to rate. How much do these tags affect your decision to click on a fic? -10 -> very dissuaded 0 - don’t care either way +10 -> very enticed nope -> if it’s a hard no and you’d never click on a fic with that tag or or you even have the tag blocked or you’d insta click out of the fic if it wasn’t tagged Bonus points for explaining the rating and whether it’s conditional.

i was tagged in a very similar post by @bookish-bogwitch a few weeks ago. at the time i read her post, i felt like our opinions were so aligned that there wasn't a good reason for me to write my own post. (well done, great opinions!) the only exception really is that if a snowbaz fic was tagged age gap i might choose to read it - less because the trope is for me, and more because that's kind of weird for snowbaz. so, maybe it would be interesting! and i guess i feel pretty meh about H/C, sorry folks.

anyway - i decided to tweak the meme into the form that you see in this post. here's my 10 random things and what i think about them👇

Amusement Parks: -2

harsh judgement right out of the gate. i've read some good ones but i feel like generally a fic about an amusement park is likely to be some quite gentle fluff, maybe a modern AU, and that's not my favourite.

Unconventional Families: 0

maybe all slash fics that are kidfics are unconventional families? if so - i actually quite like kidfic, a not that secret shame, but i sort of like it less if the fact that they're gay parents is now worth flagging because it makes life difficult - since i am a gay parent. and i dont want to read about how it will be hard. so it averages out to a 0. if the family is more unconventional.... who knows? i would neither click nor not click.

Rough Sex: 8

how sad for me that this is my first clear yes and highest rated. i probably would click unless other tags or the summary put me off.

Public Transportation: 3

i went with a yes here, as i'm intrigued. it's oddly specific and suggests an interest in the specifics, and i am a fan of public transport. i've read some nice fics where snowbaz meet on trains (yes, often modern AU, but i dont dislike them all), like the classic 15-across by @ninemagicks and the equally classic remix 2-Down (A 15-Across remix) by @carryonvisinata (who also wrote a theme park story i like, so the -2 is definitely feeling mean. ah well, press on.) Bickering: 7

i mean - i prefer banter, but i assume if someone has written bickering they kind of mean banter. unless it's like sibling bickering and then maybe not.

Phone Calls & Telephones: 0

this is almost text fic (which i like less than most people like it) but not. i often write in a phonecall, it's part of what i think of as the friendship to lovers arc...... idk. i'm also going to add here that i keep thinking about plots that rely on people not being able to call each other, which is kind of the opposite. or you have to get to a pay phone - i dont know that i would want to read a fic like that, but there are some fun movies and books that you'd have to rework now. most recently i was watching madonna in 'desperately seeking susan'.

Redeemed (character): 7

this really depends on who they are, obviously. i can imagine it being really annoying if they never show any redeemability, but i've given it a strong 7 because i come from a world of redeeming the master from doctor who over and over again, so it would feel silly not to have it as a yes. and i kind of want to redeem the mage....... but it would be weird if he just was redeemed in a fic, and so too the master. it would have to be kind of about it.

Quests: 7

yes. not a 10/10 insta-click , because i can imagine it going on a bit too long if it was a fic about a quest rather than, say, two people realising they loved each other, but i would like it to be in the background. snowbaz has some good quest fics. Song of Sirens (rated E) by @scone-lover is such a fic or A Gift From the Propheseals (rated M) by @skeedelvee and @letraspal another.

Cats: 3

this feels mean, i have 3 cats myself - i like cats to be in a fic because cats are nice, but i also dont have many feelings about animal transformation and if snowbaz adopt a cat in the future... that's fine by me, i hope they do, but i probably don't want to read about it for more than a few lines.

Sociopathy: 2

probably not if it's a serious examination of this, but plenty of my villainous favs could be described as sociopaths, so... i give it a 2!

SO SMT AU AM I RIGHT GAMERS

I mentioned this in the tags of another post and joked about it in Discord but my brain went brrrr during my last class of the day and now I lowkey have a full plot starting to form lol.

Keep in mind the only Shin Megami Tensei game I’ve played myself is the Nocturne remake, plus I only really remember bits of the plot of 4 and whatever we’ve been given so far of 5 so I’m not super well versed in the series.

Also I’ll add this to the tags too but DSMP Spoilers specifically for the contents of Techno’s Will exist in this post, because that is where the idea for this came from. A lot of other JRPGs have similar plotlines but I specifically thought of SMT because its kind of a meme specifically for that at this point how the plot always seems to have the same type ending bosses.

Now Presenting: An AU where Techno’s Limbo is an SMT Game lol

(Under a ‘Read More’ because it got way ahead of me)

An Introduction to Relevant SMT terminology:

Demons: Makes up a large majority of the characters in the game. They are the enemies that you face in combat, and its possible to recruit them to your team through various means. Some demons exist in the overworld though, and can be talked to normally, they’re chill most of the time, unless you do something to tick them off. ‘Demon’ is not taken literally by the Christian definition, they are based off of various figures in folklore and religion around the world, some are even based on Gods and Angels.

Law vs Chaos: Many SMT games have multiple endings based on these two alignments, along with the neutral alignment. It is usually decided by some important decisions the player makes throughout the game. I’m most aware of the SMT 4 ending, in which the route you are on decides the final dungeon, the character you team with for the ending, and the final boss (its either Satan or the in-game version of God). It’s based off of the traditional interpretation of these two, where Law represents the importance of authority, and Chaos represents the importance of freedom. 

Another note is that a lot of SMT games take place in a post-apocalyptic world of some kind, which, spoiler, is the case here.

General Plot Details and Worldbuilding:

- Techno dies in the prison. The stasis chamber fails and Quackity succeeds in killing him. Permanently. 

- Despite dying, he wakes up again in the main prison cell, but things are different. The lava isn’t blocking the entrance anymore, (in fact there isn’t any lava at all), and he’s alone. Upon peering outside the main cell, he notices a bit of sky peeking through the prison ceiling, like it had been broken into. 

- The drop down to the bottom floor is long, but he’s dead, so he just shrugs and jumps down so he can see what’s going on. Turns out there are several holes in this part of the prison, in fact there are multiple on the ground, likely where the lava had escaped from. (Obviously Minecraft lava specifically doesn’t work like that, I’m pretty sure in the DreamSMP the bottom is all source blocks, but just ignore that bit). 

- He exits from the back wall of the prison, and everything there so far looks normal, except for the fact that there appears to be less trees than normal. Of the trees that are still there, many of them were cut down and never collected, and some appear to have fallen over due to some damage.

- Techno goes around the prison to the front, and that’s when he notices some things that are very wrong. Various parts of the prison, not just the main cell, are also sitting destroyed. Many cracks, scuff marks and full-on chunks are missing on the walls. The usual entrance which houses the nether portal is hardly still standing, and he can see straight into the main lobby where the portal would lead into once you were let through. 

- The surrounding areas are not much better. Tommy’s outpost is toppled over in the distance, only the base and bottom floor are left standing. The tents near the beach are collapsed and destroyed, the only remnants of one of them is a small piece of fabric ripped from the main bit and laying on the ground. Skeppy and Badboyhalo’s mansion is crumbling where it stands, half of the back wall and ceiling are gone. And that’s only what’s visible from here. 

- The rest of the server is also in various states of destruction, the spawn walls are hardly left standing, the main nether portal area is covered in potholes, none of the portals are active. The prime path is rotted and broken in most areas, the buildings along it are not faring much better than the ones he’d seen before. And the further he gets away from the prison, the more the plants themselves appear to be dead or dying. 

- L’manburg’s crater looks much the same as it once did right after its destruction, albeit with more debris at the bottom which had fallen from the sides as they slowly eroded. The flag at the bottom is torn up and discoloured, honestly its hardly recognizable. The nature that had finally begun to reclaim the land has slowly been dying instead over time, and the bridge overtop has completely collapsed. The only thing still standing, is the ever present obsidian grid that looms over it in the sky. He supposes that whatever disaster had caused this wasn’t able to reach that high up, or that it was at least in part done by someone that liked the way it looked. Not that there seems to be a need for the reminder anymore. 

- Something something, he finds out DreamXD is here, and that he might have had something to do with how this world looks. And as much as it shouldn’t matter in the afterlife, he did promise Phil he would be killing God sooooo he goes on a mission to do just that. He can do pretty much anything now that he really doesn’t have to worry about dying, so why not. He has no reason to care about some God, especially when they’re the only ones left.

- Some DSMP people hang around the world and are represented by certain demons, the mostly chill ones that kinda just hang around in the apocalyptic scenery. They don’t recognize him, it isn’t really the people he knows after all, but they are willing to talk to him since they can tell he isn’t human either. He learns little bits of what happened through them, and learns where DreamXD resides, that being one of the strongholds that’s a bit further out. 

- Unfortunately, due to the portals being inactive, and his inability to break anything efficiently, or even at all, he has to travel using the overworld. Along the way he manages to speak to some others, this allows him to better locate where the God is, although it doesn’t seem to be hiding out. He even sees it sometimes flying around, which he uses to follow where its hiding. 

- Some of the random demons he runs into recognize that he’s not supposed to be here (according to them at least), so he has to fight his way through them. Luckily, many of the friendly demons that he talks to end up tagging along in order to help, thus making up a team he can use to get through them instead.

 - There’s probably a demon that seems to resemble Phil somewhere, living alone (alone for so so long) away from everyone in an arctic house perhaps. If I wanted to really up the angst, the demon takes a liking to Techno right away, which is partly how Techno is able to tell its him so quickly. The more they talk, the more Techno realizes how lonely the Phil he knows must be without him there, how upset he’d be once he reads the will and finds out what happened to him. Thus he’s more motivated to, you know, fight God, in an attempt to figure out what the hell happened. (DXD is the only entity existing here that also exists where he’s from, he can guess pretty easily that maybe, just maybe, they are one and the same). Thus, he is given a choice that he knows he will have to make in the future. 

- Eventually he manages to find the stronghold and comes face to face with DreamXD himself. DreamXD is just kinda chillin there, they fight, through DreamXD doesn’t seem to be putting in too much effort, almost like it does not want to win. 

- Techno wins (duh), and he is left with a choice, a choice to finish the job, or spare the god and allow it to go free. And, well, he feels that he doesn’t really have the right to decide whether it lives or dies, and while its possible that DreamXD caused whatever disaster created the current state of the world, but he doesn’t know that for sure. DreamXD has done nothing this whole time he’s been here, and its done nothing to him or his companions.

- He chooses to leave it alone, and DreamXD seems to know that it was always going to end that way. 

- DreamXD disappears, and Techno wakes up in the cell again post-revival, the prison and the world around it is the same as he remembers

(I don’t remember the exact real-world to limbo time difference but I imagine that it felt like, a day, maybe half that, while irl it was only a few minutes to an hour.)

Some other notes/details:

- The other possible ending would have resulted in Techno killing DreamXD and being given ANOTHER choice to take its power over the world, or just leave and stay there forever. Basically DreamXD’s existence is vital to the power of the revival book, and it’s death would have resulted in Dream not being successful in his revival attempts. Obviously we have no idea how the powers actually work yet, but I just came up with an explanation because I thought it would be interesting. You can decide on your own which of these endings fall into Law, Chaos or Neutral because uh, its complicated given the scenario. You can also decide if letting DreamXD live even fits into his character! Idk! But its not like DreamXD’s being oppressive by any means, not that there’s anyone to oppress here anyways. That’s my logic anyways.

- I don’t know what demons would represent specific people, I’d like to use one of the Angels for Phil but the Demons based on Angels usually have an important role in the plot that is in line with the Law alignment and like, protecting god or whatever, so no. There are a couple bird ones but idk if they fit the vibe, idk it could work, I’d have to look at a list if I want to go into this further.

- I kinda want Eret to be an Inugami because it’s body does that thing that ferret’s do when they’re all stretched out :) The only reason I’m hesitant is because Inugami is a dog, and Goose deserves representation.

- The reason I imagined for why Techno can’t break anything is because the mining fatigue lasted throughout this because he died with it, it’d get in the way of fighting too but at least it isn’t weakness, and he’s not alone either.

Uhhhhh that’s it for now I think!

5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?

I try to, I really do, but... if I reply, the comment no longer shows up on the ao3 homepage. I do intend to reply, but the lure of having comments on my homepage wins out most times.

Probably either ‘All That Can Be Done’, the aforementioned fic where Zenyatta dies of a God AI virus and gets killed by Genji, or ‘Always Neater In Morality Plays’ where Sazed successfully poisons and kills Taako.

7. Do you write crossovers? If so what’s the craziest one you’ve written?

I don’t really write much crossover fanfiction?

...Though I am right now doing an rp featuring a character from a historical tv show set in the Tang dynasty accidentally time travelling into an AU version of the Handmaid’s Tale, so, uh, that’s probably the wildest crossover I’ve been involved in.

8. Have you ever received hate on a fic?

Yes. I’ve received a few “you’re characterisation is bad and you should feel bad” and “how dare you write something to your tastes and not my tastes!”

‘Always Neater In Morality Plays’ got a... bad reaction. Including a popular blogger vague posting about in a way that made it obvious exactly what fic it is and how grody they found it. They may not have linked the fic directly, but, uh, everyone knew. (And I may have also sent an ill-advised ask along the lines of ‘you have the right to vagueblog whatever fic you like, but for the love of peace could you at least check who is following you, so you don’t put ‘oh god, isn’t this fic the creepiest thing ever?’ straight onto the dash of the author?”  And also a chunk of the TAZ fandom blocked me*.

And then several years later I found out ‘snuff’ meant something different than what I thought it meant (I thought it just meant ‘focus on major character death!) which added an embarassing glace cherry on top of that sundae of bad.

*This became sort of funny when some of these people got into the Magnus Archives. “Oh, so you draw the line at graphic depictions of poisoning, but someone exploding into a shower of worms is fine???”

I do, yes. As for what kind-- well, my ao3 exists and is a relatively comprehensive survey.

No, not yet. I’d be potentially interested in doing one, maybe one of those ones where one person writes one chapter and then another person writes the next. At the moment I have a friend who is also interested in maybe doing that, we just don’t currently align on fandoms.

13. What’s your all-time favorite ship?

14. What’s a wip that you want to finish but don’t think you ever will?

‘A Shattered Angel And A Broken Fist’. It was one of the earlier fics I wrote, back before I learned that if I wanted to write something long, I needed to have an idea of how it was going to end. I lost momentum and now... I honestly have no clue what should happen next? I have re-read and gone “yep, some stuff should happen. Not sure what stuff.” So while a lot of people like it and it would be nice to finish, its probably not happening.

15. What are your writing strengths?

Hmm, I think I’m reasonably good at dialogue? I’m honestly not sure what my strengths are. I don’t mean this in a low self confidence way, more that I know I don’t have an outside perspective on my writing, and like a fish, I’m not super aware of the water I’m swimming in.

16. What are your writing weaknesses?

I have a bad habit of people have conversation in Blank Windowless Voids of No Description.

I also have a less bad habit of trying to fill those voids with a) geology and b) Australian fauna and flora. This causes problems when the pov character has no reason to know geology, and the story is not set in Australia.

17. What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?

I am one of those people who pretty much only speaks English, except for the a bit of “Je m’appelle Wolffy. Le chat est petit.” So I don’t write dialogue in other languages. Too much risk of embarrassing error, for not much gain, when you can just use italics or something.

I do have a lot of thoughts about translation conventions in fic where the characters would not be speaking English, and things like whether to live honoriffics. The thoughts are a bit unformed, but mostly revolve around being consistent at least within a fic (no characters being “Your Highness” in one paragraph and “dianxia” the next), trying to avoid the affect you sometimes find in anime fics were every third word is in Japanese, and also trying to maintain character voice. (I occaisionally have moments of “yes, there is an English translation for what this character calls this other character, but it’s not what they canonically say and it’s going to bother me deeply if I only use English.”)

18. What was the first fandom you wrote for?

Depending on how you define ‘fandom’ and how you draw the line between historical fiction and historical rpf, my first fandom was the Bagoas fandom. Not the Bagoas what followed Alexander the Great around, no, the vizier who was around before him.

...I was like twelve at the time, just to make this weirder.

Sometimes I’ll drop threads without warning. However it’s not usually on purpose as most of the time I’m trying to come up with a good response. Not everything is going to be an instant reply. I like to think of something if it’s a more thought provoking thread. Sometimes the reply might be long. Sometimes not.

I enjoy Hazbin Hotel content. I’m sorry if it makes you uncomfortable but please don’t harass me about it. Just because I enjoy the characters and story, it does not make me a bad person and I am not going to waste my breath on people who only want to be jerks over it.

The way I portray Bill is a bit kinder than what most people may be used to. I am often anxious about how others will react to this but I felt the need to point out that mine is more of an angsty mess than just flat out heartless. He’ll also make a mention of Will here and there. This is mostly due to the close connection my Bill had with another person’s Will but I love the idea of the two being close. (Be it like brothers or even romantic)

This is just more of something I want to point out. I tend to rp Bill in a humanoid form, even if he’s in the mindscape and it’s more of a dream body. As I have no idea how to rp a triangle and I’ve been doing this type of form for a few years now.

Because I feel like it may not be very clear and I’m never sure of what to tag. The fact of the matter is, Bill is a dark character. So dark themes will be present. Especially psychological ones. I’ll still tag things like suicidal stuff and if it happens, smut, (though that’s not very likely unless I trust the mun and even then it’s got to be clean enough)

This one kind of falls in with the above. Bill is a villain and has abusive tendencies. Even if he forms a close relationship. He will try to restrain himself for a loved one but some aggression is to be expected. I guess a way to look at it is that Bill has Yandere habits with those he cares for. My version of Bill can be gentle but he has limits.

Shipping: I love ships. Can be platonic, romantic, etc.

One: I have thought this over in the past. But now more than ever I’ve decided to add this into my rules.

I AM NOT A MEME RESOURCE. Please reblog memes/sentence starters from the original source. The only exception is if the source is deleted or can’t be found. If you reblog from me but don’t send me at least one thing in return, then don’t bother. The second exception is my friends. I don’t mind if they reblog from me. The third exception being that if you’re on mobile a lot or mobile only. I know it can be hard to find sources sometimes because of that. Three: This is more of just me wanting to speak on it. But I feel it needs to be said. Please don’t make your muse already know that Bill is bad or that he’s no good without much interaction. A bad feeling is fine but Bill is a master manipulator and I’d really like for people to remember that. Your muse can get bad feelings and feel suspicious but unless it’s someone from canon or a muse he’s been around for long enough, it’s not fair to throw him under the bus when they don’t actually know anything. The exceptions can be if your muse meets a Ford or one of the Pines and they talk about Bill. Or if they speak with some of the denizens from Gravity Falls. Other than that, they would only have information gathered from rumors.

Anything that would actually be on file would either be the Time Police or people from worlds affected by Bill. The most accurate stuff would be the Time Police though. And even then, top secret. So don’t just say your muse has something unless they have good connections. Even that has it’s limits but I also don’t want to just say the muses can’t have anything at all. Especially if they work for a government of some kind. That would be about the only way they could get something solid. Especially since Bill these days is presumed dead and gone.

Four: I work 5 days a week and even though it’s part time, sometimes I’m just too tired/sore to get to much during the week. I’ll try to get replies and stuff done but big stuff is usually best saved for the weekends. And Friday if I can manage that.

Clarification

Hey everyone!

So I really have been trying to avoid saying anything about this situation publicly but honestly with what Al (@alfonsobeilschmidt) has just done I feel as if I’m obligated to. I have no way of contacting him privately—believe me, I tried—so I’m just going to have to do it this way.

For whatever reason, Al seems to be convinced that this v*re-centric account belongs to me. I have no idea why he thinks that, but it definitely doesn’t. In fact v*re and c*nnibalism are huge squicks for me.

In addition, the pronouns and age of the person who runs that account are also different from mine, which is perhaps why Al misgendered him. At any rate, this person is completely unrelated to the situation Al is discussing, so I have no idea why he implied that he was bullying him when after I reached out to this person they confirmed that they did not know my friends and had never interacted with Al. Exposing his page in an attempt to “gotcha” me and my friends is not only unfair to us, but also to him—this person has never interacted with Al and is being accused of harassment and bullying?

That leads me to my next point: harassment. So taking the unrelated person’s account out of it, let me recap what actually has taken place between Al, some of my friends, and myself. Al asked to join a tendershipping server we are in on July 21st. This is a space we have curated for ourselves, and people are asked two questions at the beginning to make sure they vibe and will enjoy hanging out with us as this is a strictly top Bakura server, which is mentioned in the rules and also is literally the name of the server.

Al was asked one of the questions and said he preferred a different dynamic in a way that made some people in the server uncomfortable, and also that suggested he wouldn’t enjoy being in the server to begin with. As a result he was politely asked to leave.

This is not harassment or bullying by any stretch of the imagination. He has said that mpreg, which was what the meme was about, was a trigger for him, and that’s why he made those jokes. That is completely understandable! The reason that image (which is extremely vague and has only text) is included is because we talk about it all the time, and if it is a trigger then someone who reacts poorly to it wouldn’t want to be there anyway and would be upset by that.

I also literally was not present for this conversation, and have never spoken to Al directly. I only saw screenshots of it after he had already left. Point being, even if this was harassment, the implication that I was somehow the ringleader here is so off base it’s laughable.

On the day of, because Al was talking about the situation on Twitter, someone else in the server made a very general post stating ‘it’s ok to have preferences.’ This is the only occasion that I can see in which anyone in the server has ever even alluded to what occurred publicly.

Since that point Al has continuously vagued us and me specifically on Twitter. I don’t have all of the screenshots because we have each other blocked and I don’t in fact check his account very regularly, but here are a few where he’s obviously sniping at our group—as well as misgendering the people he interacted with, 3/4 of whom use he/him pronouns and are neither women nor woman-aligned.

None of us have interacted with him since the day he left. He also sent one of his friends (@snowflakeryo) who again, none of us have ever interacted with, to harass us further.

In addition, in July I was running a tendershipping-themed week. When I saw this pop up in the tendershipping tag, which I check regularly, I tried to ignore it, but I cannot deny that it made me super uncomfortable. Doing an event that is clearly supposed to parody mine in order to upset me is harassment, and I want to again clarify that I have never spoken to Al in my life.

The above screenshots are his event in comparison to mine. After this happened I was very unnerved and I will readily admit that I occasionally checked his account as a result of that. But I never said anything publicly about it or incited others to talk to him about it, and no one else did either.

That’s how I ended up seeing the below screenshot where he readily admits to doing the event out of spite, which I was already acutely aware of.

I found it particularly ironic that, when no one acknowledged this post or reacted badly to it because we have no reason to, Al decided that he did want to tag the ship and “cause discourse” so he reposted again under the tag, which I saw through just normally browsing the ship tag as I often do because I love the ship.

Around this time I made a vaguely salty post on Tumblr about characterization and how different people write tendershipping. This actually was about someone else; I’ve never read Al’s writing and wouldn’t have known he was even a writer were it not for his mock-event so I would not know what it sounds like. I shouldn’t have said it regardless of who it’s about—for that I apologize. I really do not use Tumblr that often, and it was an extremely general post that I thought literally 0 people would see. I didn’t tag any ships or people, and virtually no one did end up seeing it except apparently Al, because—though I didn’t at the time know it—he must have been checking on my account on a regular basis. While I had a reason to do so (e.g. my paranoia about his spiteful events, literally sending people to apply to the server just to make fun of us), he does not, as I have never spoken to him in my life before this point.

No one is bullying anyone about a ship preference or stalking anyone else except you. Please leave me and my friends alone, and don’t talk about us anymore. I didn’t want to make this post or say anything about this publicly because I have no interest in being involved in drama or even being a figure in fandom at all, but harassment, bullying, and stalking are all very serious allegations, and they are in this case 100% false. 

For anyone other than Al and his friends reading this, I’m terribly sorry about all this, and I really hope I’ll never have to talk about this again.

I’m good, thanks! and that’s an excellent question! I ask myself the same things every day tbh.

how did I end up having a blog here: in fall 2018, ads for the twilight 10th anniversary showings in theaters prompted me to check whether there was an active twilight fandom on tumblr. “oh, that’s cool,” I thought upon discovering it, “maybe I’ll lurk this a bit.” I had no intention of making my own blog. then I was scavenging the Alice Cullen/Jasper Hale tag on ao3 and came across shannon’s magnum opus and just HAD to make memes about it!! I needed to! and for that I needed a blog! so I made one.

how did I manage to get so many followers: I think a lot of factors went into this. #1 is timing. I showed up right at PEAK renaissance, when this hellsite was flooded with nostalgic people rediscovering twilight. I gained about 500 followers between nov 2018-jan 2019 just by reblogging shitposts/edits and occasionally posting my own observations/takes/whatever—which I think was true for most people posting at that time. everyone was starving for content and following each other like CRAZY.

then in jan/feb/march 2019 a bunch of things happened almost at once:

I tried my hand at making some name edits

I opened up fic prompts

the fandom exploded into a nasty round of Ace Discourse. I was fairly outspoken about being ace myself and (once I had finished blocking a dozen or so people) tried to signal boost as many aroace-positive blogs as I could—with the result that I was signal boosted in turn by some pretty big blogs.

and that’s right when this blog really took off. kind of crazy, because I’m 99% certain I lost followers due to my stance on aroace inclusion—but my count was rising so fast by then that if I did, I didn’t notice. it’s hard to attribute the sudden influx of followers to any one of the three things above, but I think it was kind of a case of the planets aligning so that suddenly I was getting reblogged a lot by tons of different people for a bunch of different reasons. and then, of course, the more followers you have, the more you get reblogged, etc etc, until you just…have a lot of followers.

I also had several shitposts last year get up to 1k+ notes (starting with this one,) which isn’t exactly something you can control but it def made that follower count skyrocket, and by the end of 2019:

started from the bottom now we’re here. actually that’s a lie I’ve since blown way past this but it’s the aesthetic that counts.

but yeah. it’s tough to come up with a 1:1 explanation, but there’s a lot of little stuff you can do to gain followers! it just so happened to be stuff I was doing anyway because it’s fun and I really like interacting with the twilight renaissance community ¯\_(ツ)_/¯. y’all the goat. 

G’s tips for gaining followers:

make sure you’re using tags! this one feels kind of obvious, but has to be stated, since tags are extra important if you don’t already have a large following. tag for ships, characters, actors, individual books/movies, and categories like “#twilight renaissance,” “#twilight edit” “#twilight fanfiction” etc.

shitposts. this fandom is all about the shitposts. basically, leave yourself open to inspiration, and whenever you come across something (text meme, reaction image, netflix screencap, product in a store, etc) that could easily apply to twilight, edit & post it!

interaction. comment on things, send asks off anon, participate in ask games, dm people if you have questions/observations/recs (and even if you don’t!)

rec things yourself! and tag the creators! it’s easy to make rec lists and it makes people SO happy

if you make content of any kind (art, edits, moodboards, fic, etc) taking prompts will hella boost your engagement. (just be careful not to overwork yourself or bite off more than you can chew!)

design posts that are open-ended/interactive. examples include “tag yourself” games, generators, posts like this one. basically anything that’s a conversation, and invites some kind of response!

hosting contests, giveaways, and challenges also gets lots of engagement. @twilight-af‘s recent 15 (extended to 25) Day Challenge is a great example. I hosted this ridiculous contest last spring and it was SO much fun! I absolutely plan to host a similar contest this spring (stay tuned)

read-along/watch-along content is fun and easy to post. examples: see the time I read the graphic novels or the time shannon and I invented a drinking game

PaleGlimmer: I asked about collab writing because I have no idea how you make it work.

WHISKEY: I’ve been collaborating on stories since I got into Hannibal. For me, it started as an offshoot of online RP. If you go back far enough you can see that, because the writing is stilted and jumpy, and you can tell that two people are writing. I’ve had three major collab partners in my fandom life and after a time our “voices” and styles start to gel and it becomes more seamless. That, for me, means that’s the right partner to write with, because you start taking on their mannerisms and descriptions, and they take on yours, and people can’t tell (or can tell very vaguely) that two people wrote a story.

As for technicalities, we just “tag” each other with part of the story for the other to continue it. Sometimes it’s short tags, dialogue, or brief descriptions, other times we get carried away (in the best way possible) and end up writing 6k a day. With Strats and I, we started with preferential characters and usually tagged for just them, but now we cover everything and everyone in our tags.

STRATS: Whiskey covered this pretty well. With Whiskey, We share characters pretty evenly now, and just write about 200-300 word chunks back and forth, but there are definitely characters we each feel more comfortable with. And scenarios we both excel at! Even if I haven’t written much, I’ll tag Whiskey in if we are coming up on something Whiskey is better at, and vice versa. (For example, Whiskey is much better at pretentious Hannibal speeches than I am, and I have a particular fondness for writing emotional breakdowns. This doesn’t mean we are the only person to write those, of course, just that we tag each other in more often.)

If I’m writing with anyone else, I usually write the same way. There’s only one person I’ll still do RP-style writing with. Usually I try to match my partner’s style, so for example, when I wrote with YAMD I focused a lot more on detailed descriptions than I usually do. I can’t really describe it, I just try to align with how my partner writes.

1. What do you love about writing?

STRATS: When you finally get to that moment, that scene you’ve been thinking about for AGES, the one you have entirely plotted for weeks. 

Also, writing emotional breakdowns. Give me a sobbing panic attack any day. 

WHISKEY: The moment you hit the flow point and everything just makes sense; either an idea just CLICKS or you finally get over that plot point you were worried about and you are racing through.

2. What do you hate about writing?

STRATS: god why haven’t we yet invented a way for me to think words onto the page? I’M SO TIRED. 

WHISKEY: That meme? The one that goes like “I need this very specific fic and I need it immediately… which means I need to write it… but I just wanna read it, not write it”. That.

3. One writing tip that you could give to other writers.

STRATS: When I was a teenager I came across some writing advice from an author I loved (I want to say Steven King, but it’s been years). The advice was “sit down and actually write.” And I was PISSED. As a teenager struggling with motivation, I hated that advice. 

Now I’m almost 27 and I can safely say that the best writing advice I can give you is JUST FUCKING WRITE THE THING. Even on days I feel like my writing is garbage, I force out a bit of garbage. Force your way through the shitty parts so you can get to the fun parts. You can always go back and edit the shitty parts later (and often it turns out they weren’t as shitty as you thought they were). 

WHISKEY: Practice. I’m sorry, I’m trite and boring but honestly that’s the only way you will get better, get into a habit of writing all the time, and start to find your own voice. Practice even just 100 words a day, coz that’s 100 words more than you had yesterday.

4. One overused word in fanfics?

WHISKEY: Oh god our beta actually points these out now haha! I’m terrible for teeth/tongue/lip action (he tongued the corner of his mouth, flashed his teeth, bit his lip)

STRATS: any time someone’s smile “quirks up at the corners” or you read the words “fluttering/thrumming pulse,” that’s me. It’s always me. I have been called out on the hummingbird pulse before. 

5. Have you guys disagreed on a story direction? If yes, how do you resolve that?

WHISKEY: I don’t think we have *disagreed* really, once in a while we find that a story doesn’t flow how it should, and we start over, or a character we had planned in our head ends up written differently on a tag. In that case we usually just ping the other and explain what we were after (we have a chat always open alongside writing) and figure out what works best for the story. I can think of a couple times that’s happened and it’s always a super chill and fair affair; both of us have “won” those kinds of things before.

STRATS: We gel really well together, and often our stories are at least loosely planned out from the beginning, so it doesn’t come up much. Every once in a while one of us says “so I don’t think this is working” and we usually do our best to find a way to change it around. It’s not really “fun” to write together if you’re making your partner write something they aren’t happy with, so we try to take each other’s opinions into account. 

6. How did you guys manage to let the other into your thought process? Writing is intimate. With a writing partner, that person knows what your kinks, opinions about things, etc. are. Was it scary to let that person in and see you being vulnerable with your works? This is assuming that you let your personality bleed through your stories.

So, this is an awesome question actually, thanks for asking it, and the answer might sound a bit weird so bear with us! We both get a bit of a (major) crush on our writing partners when we write, and after. Not in a way that would be considered cheating or manipulative but in a way that is… intimate. You said it right that it’s intimate. Neither of us want to date the other (besides, Strats is married) but we love each other and spend a lot of time together with our writing.

There is a lot of trust there, and opening up is a process. I think with Strats and I, we started talking about a kink we shared (human furniture) and it sort of bled out from there. “Oh, I also like bondage! And I’m a huge fan of cock and ball torture, you into that?” and it grew from there.

There were some kinks that we came across that we’d both agree were not our jam and we’d just put them away, and there were some kinks that at one point were not one of our kinks but now we share them. These are interesting ones because it happened absolutely organically; neither of us ever push the other into kinks we know make the other uncomfortable, but we do offer the chance, if one of us is so inclined.

For Whiskey this was ABO and feminization, for Strats it’s underage. Once in a while we’ll push a little to see how we feel about those things, but there’s always a carte blanche to back out if anything makes us uncomfortable. It’s honestly such a safe place to explore these things that we really love it. Also both of us are super kinky and very open about it so there’s usually VERY little (if any) filter when we talk sex/kink.

Blue Posey: Where do you get the ideas from? Your stories are so varied.

WHISKEY: We shamelessly pluck ideas from the Hannigram Kinkmeme on Discord, we have about 150 saved in a spreadsheet that we random number generate from when we want a new idea. Sometimes it’s AUs of movies or other shows that we like, sometimes it’s just an idea that we’ve had that we put out into the void and one of us will freak out and connect it to something.

STRATS: we also both keep track of twitter and tumblr and will send each other prompts based on those. We are following quite a few non-fandom porn accounts… 

and of course, sometimes I wake up at four am and text whiskey absolute gibberish and in the morning we write a fic.

Christina Shinn: I always like knowing about what gets writers really excited about their own fics. How writers overcome their writer's block. What motivates writers. What are some pet peeves of writers. YAY! Love your fics!

WHISKEY: 1. I get excited about fics I know people are excited about. If Strats pings me with a story idea and she’s stoked about it, I’ll catch that fever and be entirely into exploring that story. Likewise if someone commissions us or requests a story that really digs its heels in.

STRATS: 1) I’ve gotten a LITTLE less vain now that I do commissions and gifts for other people, but generally, every single thing I have written is something I’ve wanted to read, and so I love rereading it. Sometimes I’ll cringe at a typo or a mistake or an awkward line, but overall, I love everything I write. I have spent hours retreading my own fics before. Write the kind of story you want to read!

WHISKEY: 2. Writer’s block is an asshole and honestly I have no actual “fix it” for you; collab writing definitely helps because you have someone to soundboard off of, but even then sometimes we find ourselves just stuck. That’s when we start yet another original story XD

STRATS: 2) Writer's block occasionally eats me alive. If it’s REALLY hitting you, take a day off. It’s okay. Take a break. Do something fun. 

But once that day is over WRITE THE THING. Write something terrible. Just do it. You can always fix it later

WHISKEY: 3. Collab writing is hugely motivating for me, it’s an immediate and awesome feedback loop of love. You tag, you send it off, and someone FINDS THAT IDEA COOL ENOUGH TO CONTINUE and ping you back, and you have new material to work with that didn’t come out of your head and… it’s great, it really is. Also feedback from readers. Even if it’s critique (note: not “I hated this” but “this could have been done differently imo”) it’s a great way to keep growing and moving as a writer.

STRATS: 3) collab writing is really motivating for me because I am a Guilt Monster and other people are relying on me. For my own stuff, I’m motivated because I’m writing something I like. Something I want to reread later. 

If a story isn’t working for you (and it isn’t required for some sort of work or whatever), stop writing it. Go write something you like. It’s okay to say “actually, I don’t want to write this one anymore.”

WHISKEY: 4. I think every writer has a pet peeve regarding their own headcanons. Some people hate endearments with a pairing, but have their own pet names that work for them in their personal headcanon. In others’ work? There are certain things that irk me, but they’re also entirely personal. If I feel that a character has been written really OOC in a fic that is marked as canon for instance, it grinds my gears. THAT SAID that’s also the writer’s own prerogative.

STRATS: 4) I have too many pet peeves to mention because I am a snob, but I still have relatively low standards for what I’ll read, so I’ve read a vast variety of things. 

Besides what Whiskey said about characterization, I have a few aspects of life that I’m somewhat knowledgeable about, and I can’t stand when people get it WRONG. Special mention goes to people writing children badly, which is the entire reason Family of Choice exists. If you don’t have children or know children, PLEASE do some research into child development before you write them. It drives me up the wall when kids are doing things they shouldn’t be at that age. I have a tendency to write para/novella-length replies, but will strive to match you in length and style. Please include something I can actively respond to in your reply, because neutral replies can be very difficult to build upon, and please do not godmod her based on assumptions and/or stereotypes about her character/profession.

  With regards to ask responses, please feel free to turn them into threads by tagging me in a new post and cutting your replies. I’ll turn asks into threads if they inspire me, but you’re under no obligation to continue them if you’re not as motivated. When cutting, please don’t cut me out. Also, please don’t reblog asks with your reply or reblog replies with my tag if I don’t reply quickly enough. I track of all my threads to the best of my ability, so please check there first if you want to know the status of our thread.     Though I run a selective blog, I am not very selective in nature. I do have a preference for original and SnK/AoT characters, especially those that inspire me and challenge me. I’ll primarily look for interactions by checking blog rules for oc-friendliness, reblogging promos, asking to be mutuals in the tags, then follow back after that initial follow is granted. If you don’t want me to follow you, please block me completely because otherwise I’ll think it’s a mistake/glitch and follow you again.     It pains me that something like this needs to be said, but Bel wasn’t created to force ship with your muse and/or overpower our threads. I don’t care if you think they’re “cringey”, “underdeveloped”, “overpowered”, or any other iteration of not meeting your personal criteria of a good character. Opinions are valid but unsolicited bullying is not. It is important to realize that canon characters are still original characters bar their capitalistic franchise.     I’m not very savvy with code, but I do try my best to keep my blogging accessible as I tinker and learn. I aspire my blogs to look like yours. It's actually so fun to just sit and read through - just thought you should know, so keep up the great work!

Honestly, it’s one of the few benefits of working in a high stress, high burnout, high full of infuriatingly dim people: I can rework it and channel it into Things Calleo Has To Deal With which makes the actual frustrating, stressful stuff I actually have to deal with about 100% less annoying.

Pretty much every unprompted rant he has about someone at the Ministry, I guarantee you is someone (usually someone with a C level title, a VP title, or a regional director title–or worse, a doctor. Doctors are the actual worst to work with, you’d swear they’re all seeing a computer for the first time with every ticket) I’ve had to deal with that made me die a little inside having to listen to them be wrong and not just double down on being wrong rather than admit that they’re wrong and don’t actually know how to do my job better than I do.

The rest of it is a combination of having written the character for close to 20 years and being flexible with how I can justify him doing things and interacting with others.

While there are some things I’m just not interested in, in general, I go with the Giant in the Playground philosophy of “Decide to React Differently” to keep RP going instead of shutting it down with, “There is only one way my character would respond to this” when that’s almost never the case if you stop and think about it beyond your first reaction.

The most notable part:

“Decide to React Differently: Have you ever had a party break down into fighting over the actions of one of their members? Has a character ever threatened repeatedly to leave the party? Often, intraparty fighting boils down to one player declaring, “That’s how my character would react.” Heck, often you’ll be the one saying it; it’s a common reaction when alignments or codes of ethics clash.

However, it also creates a logjam where neither side wants to back down. The key to resolving this problem is to decide to react differently. You are not your character, and your character is not a separate entity with reactions that you cannot control. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve heard a player state that their character’s actions are not under their control. Every decision your character makes is your decision first. It is possible and even preferable for you to craft a personality that is consistent but also accommodating of the characters the other players wish to play.

When you think about a situation, ask yourself, “Is this the only way my character can react to this?” Chances are, the answer is, “No.” Try to refine your character so that you can deal with situations that conflict with your alignment/ethos without resorting to ultimatums, threats, etc. This will often mean thinking in terms of compromise and concession to your fellow players, or at the very least an agreement to disagree.”

In a similar vein, try to have a variety of thread styles; if, for example, the majority of what you post is shipping with a small handful of people others may assume, even if it’s an incorrect assumption, that you’re only interested in shipping and only interested in shipping with the friend group you already have so they may just not even try, especially if they’re not really looking into writing ships and only ships.

While everyone has their favorite kind of RP to write, if it’s all you write or the majority of what you write, you’re pigeonholing yourself and shrinking the pool of potential new partners.

I also find it much easier to get more involved if I don’t stick myself to an ultra detailed backstory that will almost never come up in RP and is largely just flavor text and little more.

When I do character creation, I start with a skeletal design of the basics of what I want from the character and build off of it; any backstory gets pieced together as RP happens and I have to come up with it on the fly. For me, it’s easier to get a character well developed by starting with a basic idea and slowly building on it as RP happens which is something Tumblr often insists is the “wrong way” and that you need to come up with novel length pages on backstory before you’re ‘ready’ and that’s discouraging enough that a lot of people give up before they even start.

And, honestly, the bleak truth is most people only skim those long biographies anyway. Very few people will sit through 5 pages worth of backstory, especially if very little of it is relevant to how IC interactions take place.

Write them if you enjoy writing them, but don’t expect or assume that anyone who doesn’t do the same doesn’t have a well developed character.

And also? Post for the sake of posting; I don’t mean aesthetic posts or constant memes, just post as your character.

This is something I’m more comfortable with as it’s how Livejournal RP games worked back in the day; you could tag something private and it was known that it was for ‘flavor’ to read OOC, you could tag things private to certain groups of people but leave the post public so everyone could read along, threads were often open threads, meaning anyone in the game could join in at any point (I kind of miss that aspect and it’s definitely not a thing on Tumblr, people here tend to be super closed off and keep threads between two characters).

Anything I have posted that is not tagged as owl or private is public and you are free to have your character join in the commentary, join in the conversation, post about what they overheard/saw/read, or send in asks about it.

Like, for example, all the quick back and forth Calleo tends to have with @retired-death-eater ? At the very least, if your character works at the Ministry, they probably would have overheard parts of the back and forth if not all of it.

But, anyway, just post. Have your character post about their day, about something they overheard in the staff room, about a weird thing they saw, about their hobbies, about something they’re reading/researching, about the last Quidditch game they saw, etc…even if nobody hits the heart button or comments, they’re still reading and it’s still giving them a clearer idea of what your character is like.

THAT all aside, do. not. gossip. OOC.

Nobody cares what fight you had with X player or that you don’t like how Y interprets a canon character or any of that; if you dislike someone’s writing, don’t follow them, soft block them, hard block them, use tag filters, us xkit’s blacklist, but don’t start complaining to everyone who will listen that you dislike that person because all it does is make you look bad.

It also makes people less likely to want to engage you out of fear that, the instant they slip up or do something you don’t like, instead of coming to them to explain the issue, you’ll just go behind their back.

If someone has legitimately treated you objectively badly OOC, it’s fine to ask overlapping RP partners to please not try to involve you in RP with that person and if you desperately feel the need to explain why, keep it to the facts of what actually happened. And never, ever try to tell your RP partners who they can and cannot RP with; that will and should get you dropped immediately as there is never a time it’s appropriate to do that.Asking them to please not involve your character with the player you had a falling out with? Cool and reasonable.

Demanding they stop RPing with that person too? No. Controlling, manipulative behavior and you will likely be rightfully dropped by multiple RP partners.

Creating “burn book” blogs or “anonymous confessions” blogs that accept negative submissions? Also no. You’ll eventually be found out, and you will likely rightfully be branded as a bully that people will not want to interact with out of fear of them ending up on one of those blogs if they ever do anything that even mildly annoys you.

People referring to stretched ears or the jewelry worn in stretched ears as gauges - this is a battle I will never win, but stretched ears are stretched ears; gauge is a form of measurement and or an output reader in vehicles; plugs, tunnels and weights are the actual types when it comes to jewelry and it will never not annoy me and I’m sorry [not really tho]

UNPOPULAR OPINION: I have yet to find a way to make avocado palatable so for now? Avocados are gross. .

DO YOU EASILY GET JEALOUS?: Not easily, no - not that I don’t feel it, but I do a fairly good job of talking myself off the edge in that regard; not so much for a lot of other aspects in my life presently but I have at least a few areas where I can just talk myself through it and rationalize that I’m being ridiculous.

DO YOU EASILY GET ANGRY?: Not generally, no - but when I am, unless I’m angry to the point of wanting to inflict actual harm in one way or another, you will never know about it.

ARE YOU EASY TO CHEER UP?: It honestly depends - generally, yes, but sometimes depression and anxiety ramp all the way up and getting through to me is like trying to bore through a steel wall with a plastic spoon.

ARE YOU GOOD AT HIDING YOUR EMOTIONS?: I’ll put it like this - you will only know what I allow you to ^-^ There have been periods of time where I have been livid at people but kept things so civil that they were never aware of it; I’ve learned over time that being too open only comes back to bite you in the ass.

WHAT’S THE VERY BEST WAY TO CHEER YOU UP?: Spam me with vine compilations and dank memes, pet pics [dogs, cats, rabbits, snakes, fish, rats - show me your babies]

DO YOU KISS ON THE FIRST DATE?: Depends how well the date went, but generally not - I’ve a few boundary issues due to somethings in my past; I had one guy force it after I dodged his first attempt and needless to say I blocked him on every platform and never saw him again. If you don’t respect my boundaries on the first date, then I highly doubt you’re suddenly going to later down the line.

DO YOU PREFER GOING OUT, OR STAYING HOME, WHEN IT COMES TO DATES?: I do not care - sincerely; if I like you, and you like me, anything and everything can be a date. Eating fast food in the car while we chat? That’s a date. Watching a movie and making dinner together? That’s a date. Going out to the aquarium and grabbing lunch? That’s a date. So long as it’s someone who gives a genuine fuck about me? I consider anything a date so long as I can spend some time with you.
