That’s why you do need to do your research and come with questions - a part of that research does need to be ensuring your doctor doesn’t have an opinionated stance on medicine beyond what is best for their patient.

It is telling about the discourse though that you claim withholding of care is a huge issue and conservatives claim over abundance of care (and lack of proper “checks”) is an issue. I’d believe you before them, for the record! Most experience I’ve seen tells me you are right. But we really need to be careful how we talk about these things.

Systemic processes, and guidelines of care in medicine, are important and are gained through hard lessons. Doctors need to be the ones establishing them, but they need to be doing it in a way that doesn’t allow personal bias to interfere. Research has to be the guide, and right now, that is usually the case. The reason trans care is under addressed is because it is a minority situation - and we need to improve that. Absolutely. (Publicizing healthcare and medical research would be a nice start)

We just can’t play into conservative narratives, and this attack on legitimate scientific reasoning, in the process. Doctors are biased, human, and make mistakes. There’s a lot of things that need fixing in the field. But they don’t tend to be malicious on purpose - and they absolutely aren’t government agents intent on ruining todays youth, or whatever the hell line conservative outlets try to sell.

yes, doctors suck, but also "the medical ethics and patient interaction training doctors receive reinforces ableism" and "the hyper competitive medical school application process roots out the poor, the disabled, and those who would diversify the field" and "anti-establishment sentiment gets applications rejected and promotions requests denied, weeding out the doctors on our side" and "the gruesome nature of the job and the complete lack of mental health support for medical practitioners breeds apathy towards patients" and "insurance companies often define treatment solely on a cost-analysis basis" and "doctors take on such overwhelming student loan debt they have no choice but to pursue high paying jobs at the expense of their morals" are all also true

none of this absolves doctors of the truly horrendous things they say and do to patients, but it's important to acknowledge that rather than every doctor being coincidentally a bad person, there is something specific about this field and career path that gives rise to such high prevalence of ableist attitudes

Ehehe okay here's my rambly thoughts about it (I'm literally sitting at work clocked out writing this instead of going home because THOUGHTS)

*Disclaimer: there's a lot about season 2 that irked me in terms of plot and characterization so this is me retconning a little bit and picking and choosing what examples make the most cohesive argument. Like, in season one they're like "Jayce has this brotherly relationship with Caitlyn and him and Mel have this deep, meaningful relationship" and then season two was like "No more relationship building, it's time for trauma now" but, I digress*

First things first, he's a people pleaser. He does what he's told, clearly (against better judgment but like). And he's clearly committed to the people he cares about. HE BROUGHT VIKTOR BACK FROM THE DEAD (AND THEN KILLED HIM) AND THEN DIED WITH HIM AGAIN. You can't tell me that wouldn't translate to an "I'll do anything for you" attitude in the bedroom too.

Season one Jayce? That man is whipped. One glance from his partner and he's on his knees like it's a religion. Whoever you ship him with! Mel, Viktor, both, a secret fourth option--

He spent an indeterminate amount of time alone, in the bottom of a pit. He's touch-starved but also! Traumatized!

Imagine, if you will, that he survives the astral plane. Imagine he goes to find Mel, or Viktor also survives, or imagine your own y/n, OC insert scenario here. Whatever floats your boat.

In such scenario, and in the aftermath of his self-awareness epiphany where he realizes that yeah, he's kinda been used (by everyone really), I think that in regards to any potential sexual relationship, he would have to become more dominant, more in control of the situation. Especially if it's with Mel, since he does pointedly blame her, or even Viktor, who has literally shaped the course of Jayce's entire life since he was a child. The man needs to set some boundaries with people and good for him.

So I think dominant, scruffy Jayce does have a time and a place.

However, I don't think he'd stay that way forever. It's kinda like him trying to be a politician-- it's a different role that he can pull off, but it doesn't fully scratch his itch.

BONUS HEADCANON: Wouldn't it be just so interesting if he survived the astral plane and goes back to whoever, and while he's looking for comfort and reassurance and all that physical contact he's been deprived of, he realizes that he really doesn't like people touching his head.

I hypothesize that in regards to canon relationships, Mel and/or Viktor, once they regain his trust and show that they're not trying to use him again, he's 100% going to be simping for them even worse than before. Like, that relationship would've gone through the fire and only come out stronger on the other side. You might even say it's been vulcanized.... 🤭

From the on, he can go back to letting his walls down around them and letting them be the dominant one because he knows there's solid trust and respect there now.

Hello UtahLIVE viewers, I have come before you today to talk a bit about recent events and how they will impact the future of this blog. Apologies this note is a bit long, but I would really appreciate it if you took some time to read this.

As I'm sure many of you know, within the past month Wilbur Soot/William Gold has been outed as an abuser. I want to make it clear right now that I no longer support him, nor do I accept his apology (mainly because it's not mine to accept in the first place). I stand with and believe Shelby and Alice 100%. This goes for any other victims that have or will come forward that I am unaware of, since I've been trying my best to stay offline. This aint about me!! But it's still hard when someone you look up to and who inspired you to create art turns out to be a shitbag. If you were somehow unaware of this, please go watch Shelby/Shubble's stream (VOD + transcript) and read Alice's post (and mind the CW/TWs) for more information.

This blog has brought me a lot of grief because of all of this. I do not want to support or perpetuate this man's image, but at the same time, I don't want to discontinue a story that I've put so much time and effort into. After a lot of deliberation, I've decided that I am going to continue this story until the end. I will also be adding a disclaimer in the pinned post, and I will no longer be tagging any of my posts from here on out with #wilbur soot or any adjacent tags. I don't think it's fair to myself or to anyone else who has enjoyed this blog to waste all the hard work that I have put in, because ultimately this is my project and my story, not his. If you disagree with this, I totally get it, but I ask you to just unfollow and/or block rather than sending me any hate because I promise you that whatever you say about me "supporting" Wilbur Soot by continuing this blog is something I've already considered myself. He is not (active) on Tumblr, he did not receive any of the money I got from stickers, I doubt anyone is looking at this blog and thinking "wow this Wilbur guy seems cool, let me go listen to his music and watch his vods".

Despite this decision, I'll probably still be taking a bit of time to myself to think about things and focus on school. Updates will likely resume in late March or early April.

i want to be that annoying person: i don't think most of the comments author find annoying are made from a place of malice. I think some people in the fandom are rude it's true. but if i write something and a person finds the time to comment even that they don't agree on what I wrote I appreciate it. I don't project my self-worth on a fic, it's an hobby and I share it so I can interact with people. As long as people in the comments aren't rude i don't see having different opinion on the story as a source of conflict. I think fandom has turned into a competition on who "gets the character better" and instead of building a community together we've, in a sense, started to prefer the source material to the community around it. There are ship wars and most beloved characters and the most hatred, the blorboest, the little meow meow, etc and it's normal that people get attached to characters what is a symptom of chronically online is starting to get mad at people that see the character differently as you see it. and, i can't stress this enough, IT'S NORMAL. different people with different lives see things differently. it's not a personal attack on your pov. it shouldn't be an attack on your favorite character.

any of the type of comments above CAN come from a genuine place of just wanting to share one's ideas, they're not only a personal critic. they took the time to read the story you wrote and are giving you a feedback based on their personal preferences, they're not trying to attack you. (obviously as long as the feedback isn't offensive)

I know some comments are annoying but instead of ignoring them or blocking them we can try to have a conversation. we don't have to agree on the moral alignment of a fictional person or if a ship is also our otp. we need to agree on having basic moral decency to people in real life. if we have that than we can disagree about fictional stuff.

Small Things Can Make Big Differences 🩷

Hi, Fans Of Amy Rose!

This is my opinion and we don’t know what could happen between now and Sonic Movie 3. Anyone can disagree. I’m 100% fine with that and this isn’t going to tarnish my enjoyment of the film at all, but I’ve got to get this off my chest. I’d love to see Amy Rose in Sonic Movie 3 and would be disappointed if she wasn’t in it. Yeah, she’d probably not have a HUGE role or time to develop as much. I get it, but at the same time, I personally don’t think we should shy away from characters having small arcs.

Tails had one in Sonic Movie 2 and I wouldn’t say the movie would’ve been better without him. I don’t think we should have to justify a main character like Amy who’s existed before KNUCKLES (and debatably Tails) being in a movie about her own franchise. We shouldn’t have to wait a whole year for it either. Stuff takes time sure, but other movies with Pokémon, the Avengers, Mario, My Little Pony G4, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and many others did it and did it well for the most part. Most of these have tons of characters that they wasn’t afraid to show in one movie. Characters with smaller roles still impacted the movies and in a memorable way too. We shouldn’t be so timid in bringing Sonic characters in Sonic movies. They’re just as marketable as these other franchises. The successes of the Sonic trilogies proved that.

Without Amy or other characters it doesn’t feel as full as it could be. Not saying we should’ve got all of them from the get go but a little more would be nice.

I’m saying this respectfully but that doesn’t make sense especially if we have enough time to flesh out the human core characters/side characters who aren’t even part of the main franchise and not the ones most audiences came to see in the first place. I’m neutral and understand both critiques and defenses so you can decide where to go to on that.

Back to before, you don’t need long drawn out character development in order to be written well. Tails turned out fine despite his small role. Heck, Amy’s roles in the GAMES were usually small but not less impactful because of it. Amy practically helped save the entire world with her “small roles” and one for an emotional and impactful moment with Shadow. Even small things can make big differences and that’s one lesson you can learn from Amy.

Amy’s interactions with Gamma in SA1 impacted the robot to the point of him sacrificing himself to free a Bird he needed to stay alive.

Amy believed in Sonic when the whole world (or Silver) was against him in Sonic 06.

Amy showed kindness to Sonic as the Werehog and gave her closest friend encouragement. She still loved him regardless of how he looked.

There’s more examples, but these are the most well known. Do you notice how most of them were small actions or small moments of development in small roles. And still managed to make Amy a wonderful character while impacting the stories?

I’ll also just show this too.

Also, don’t worry about her stealing time from Shadow. The film’s called Sonic Movie 3 not Shadow The Hedgehog. He can share the spotlight. Knuckles did in SM2. There’s no excuse in my opinion.

The movie doesn’t have to have Amy and wouldn’t be worse without her, but I think we shouldn’t overlook her importance to the franchise even if what she does is small. Or feel bad for being more aware of what little we get in these movies. It’s okay to admit certain flaws. Nothing’s perfect and not above criticism as long as we’re respectful about it. And for the kiddies who would like to see a cartoony animal girl character for the first time in these films, Amy would be a fantastic way to start.

Amy debuting in Sonic 3 and interacting with the boys would be a lovely way of establishing that close connection between the core four of the franchise. They’d literally have the definition of love at their sides. Again, small changes can make big differences. That’s all I have to say. Now I’m going to continue to be excited for the 3rd Sonic movie.

Claudia Deserves Respect

One of the things I think the last(?) season of The Dragon Prince did right was giving Claudia her due as a character. For a long time now, I feel like both the show and the fandom has had the bad habit of either demonizing or infantalizing Claudia and her motives. Even the corners or the fandom who are sympathetic towards her tend to go on about how she is "emotionally immature" or naive and easily manipulated because she wants her dad back and listens to Aaravos when Viren is gone, but that has never been my read on her.

The big shift in Claudia and Aaravos' relationship this season happens when they are at the Moon-Nexus and Aaravos has a rare moment of introspection and vulnerability with her, confessing that he doesn't really believe that Viren is going to be there. This is obviously very surprising for Aaravos to admit because he has no reason to do so other than genuine guilt about manipulating Claudia after bonding with her and also breaking her and Terry up, but Claudia surprises us even more by admitting that she has already done the introspection to realize that her dad is not going to be waiting for her at the end of this. This is one of those moments that I have seen people argue makes Claudia a passive puppet because "she just wants Aaaravos to tell her what to do" but I disagree. It is important to know that until this point Aaravos has not given Claudia any reason for why inverting the Moon-Nexus would be a good idea other than the vague suggestion that Viren might be there, but she has already come to the conclusion that he isn't on her own. When she answers Aaravos with "Good question. Why don't you answer it?" she is not making Aaravos think for her, she is telling him: "I know you didn't suggest this for my benefit, I know you have an agenda, now spill it". In this moment, Claudia demands to hear exactly why Aaravos is doing this and she decides that his is a cause worth pursuing. Aaravos was open with her and she decided for herself that she is 100% on-board with tearing down the entire structure of the world and making the cosmic assholes suffer.

This is also not demonizing her in any way because it is perfectly in-line with her previously established good traits. Claudia has consistently been the most vocal about voicing the injustice of this world in how poorly the elves and dragons have treated humanity so tearing down the cosmic order is not framed as her just wanting the world to end but her usual way of standing up to injustice by breaking taboos.

Her last big scene of the arc is her confronting Soren and Corvus on top of the Storm Spire where they chased her down with the intent of killing her and she lets them go saying that she is still herself, still nice. This is also something I see a lot of people framing as negative because it is Claudia "holding on to a false image of herself" but I see it as her confirming something about herself. Claudia has changed a lot, but the one thing that remains true about her is that she is nice. She will prioritize her loved ones over all else, but when she has an opportunity to be good that doesn't conflict with her larger goals, she will take it. In this moment she is furious with Soren, who all but confirmed that he will kill her when he gets the chance and not even a sworn oath from his king will stop him. She has every reason to toss him off the edge to be broken the same way their father was, but she doesn't. When Claudia is in control, she chooses to be kind, even to people who are never kind to her.

So if this is the end of the show, I am glad with the position it left my favorite character, because it respects her in both her motives and her autonomy. She is still out there, still scheming to bring down the injustice that our heroes won't even acknowledge. And she is confirmed to not do this out of blind devotion or even blind love for Aaravos, but a genuine conviction in that goal. This dialogue got me thinking this btw. She was once in Furina’s footsteps, feeling the same things, having the same experience.

Notices how she uses ‘self’ and ‘me’ too, as well as ‘in a sense’. So that says to me Furina would have differences from Focalors of being a human, her lack of divinity and experience, so she wouldn’t be like Furina completely, but still share a lot in common that she still uses the words ‘self’ and ‘me’ to refer to her.

Furina came from Focalors, so Furina would have taken things from Focalors (besides personality traits- Furina took Focalors’ white outfit and long hair in her healing/acting mode as Focalors is the one she immediately takes inspiration from as a divine).

Then there’s the dance. Despite (from our knowledge) Furina not having interacted with Focalors much, she still dances when Focalors dances.

This is not something that they put in without thought. I think they intended the dance to symbolise Furina and Focalors as having a bond with each other, and showing them as the different ‘parts’; human Furina, and divine Focalors.

And when Focalors dies…

Furina loses her hat. I see this as Furina ‘losing a part of herself’ with the losing act of Archon and losing Focalors.

Focalors was really the only person with any insight of who Furina truly was before she started the act, but we can't get practically any knowledge of who Furina used to be because the person who knew is stone dead.

I have a question.

What was Silco's objective? I understand that it was to intimidate Piltover without the need for a war and having their power removed from the underground city.

If this was so, why don't we see him mobilize in his plan to scare those above? Zaun's plot is advanced by Jinx's rash actions rather than by Silco's.

Was he waiting for a “moment”? Most argue that Silco became almost the same as those at the top when he assumed power, caring more for himself than for the nation of Zaun itself.

I don't agree with the last part, I feel like it disagrees with the character I remember from the first season. I guess I'll have to see it again.

The way I intetpreted it, Silco's objective is for the Undercity to have the same respect and opportunity as those above, rather than their chances snuffed out by Piltover's boot from the beginning. He believes that the only way this can be achieved is through severing ties with Piltover by any means necessary. Unlike Jinx he definitely does not desire vengeance like some say, but he is willing to destroy Piltover if that's what it comes to.

Silco and Vander tried fighting Piltover but the Zaunites were outmatched and massacred. So Silco knows that the Undercity is too weak on its own- but as we see with the cat and rat in the first episode, shimmer can give the weaker opponent the edge it needs to flip the tables. The issue is that shimmer is still in it's experimental stages and unbeknownst to Silco, Piltover is experimenting with hextech at the same time.

It takes time for him to settle down as Zaun's leader, build shimmer factories, produce shimmer, and create weapons. Then Piltover creates the atlas gauntlets and hexgates, and controls the flow of goods, once again giving them the edge before Zaun even has the chance to use shimmer against it.

We see in episode eight that the chemtanks are more than enough to destroy the enforcers, but it's too late. Piltover already has hex weapons that weren't even designed as weapons yet can decimate the chembarons, even when brandished by inexperienced fighters like Jayce. Jayce knows this too, and tells Silco that his people don't have a chance against topside, and he is probably right. Silco isn't willing to take the risk fighting against a superior enemy again because he already tried that in his youth and failed. If it weren't for the surprise invention of hextech that no one saw coming, the undercity would 100% be free by now. Even still, Silco never stopped trying to find ways to best Piltover, like Jinx's weapon and possibly Warwick.

I agree 100% with how you feel about the last part. Silco did not become like the councilors, the chembarons did. People just assume that because Silco works with them he must be like them, which is untrue. Silco shows obvious disdain towards them during the meeting because he senses their greed.

The chembarons tend to stay in the upper levels of Zaun, where things are brighter, the air is cleaner, and they can even grow many plant species. They also indulge in elaborate body modifications and worry more about saving their own skin (Finn wanting more trade, Smeech wanting to betray Jinx) than anything else

Compare this to Silco, who stays in the lower levels of Zaun and works in a modest office within the Last Drop, tolerating the noise for his employees. He doesn't have tattoos or prosthetics or fancy accessories, just presentable clothes he needs for meetings. He talks to Jinx and the chembarons, not about his own needs, but about his vision for Zaun's future.

Yes there are parallels between Silco and the council, such as how they view their citizens as expendable, but where were these people when Silco talked about how Finn had forgotten the cause? Or how he he has been softened by his decadent lifestyle? Or how, unlike Silco, the chembarons were so distanced from their people's suffering that they no longer had resistance to the grey?

If Silco cared more about himself than Zaun, he would not have fought tooth and claw for it, even when hextech came and all hope seemed lost. He definitely would not have been willing to give up shimmer, the source of his empire's revenue, in return for freedom. If he only cared for himself, he would have accepted the council seat Jayce offered and moved to Piltover for a better life.

every time I remember that the hit show supernatural made God, the literal God from the Bible, canonically bisexual but couldn’t do the same with a random guy who hunts monsters it actually makes me feel physically ill.. like blasphemy is okay but we draw the line at making the main character a little bit queer because it would “upset the heterosexuals men”? okay ig… and it’s so funny to me that they tried SO bad to make dean like really really straight and macho and a manly womanizer (I mean dude has literal porn brain and is obsessed with cars and is a film nerd) And still is the number 1 bissexual boy.. I mean no one that into cowboys is 100% straight 🙄 and if they actually wanted him to be that much of a cishet guy WHY would they make him have a codependent homosexual friendship with his best friend for more than a decade ?? and we have so much subtext to corroborates it that it’s actually insane.

and it’s also rlly funny to me that sam would be the most obvious choice for a queer storyline. like i’m not sure this is true but i heard somewhere that he actually was supposed to like be lgbt and that it’s implied in the show he’s pan bc he basically have sex w/ everyone and doesn’t care (like monsters and stuff). i wholeheartedly disagree bc sure he hited a demon and a werewolf and a kitsune and God knows what more But it still were just women and for me he’s still just straight 💀 we do have gabriel however and i would say that’s a valid argument but i don’t actually like them together because of the whole torturing-sam-every-tuesday-over-and-over-again but it’s still a good take ig. again this is just my opinion But anyways doesn’t matter my point Is that sam always felt like a freak and wanted to be normal and like was more open minded and “less-macho-toxic-behavior” than dean. he was a theater kid and talked about his feelings and all. But dean, oh, dean, no, no, no. and it could all be linked to john. we know how much dean wanted to gain his father approval and respect, all he ever wanted was for john to be proud of him. so he’d listen to the same music as john, same clothes… and so on. but when we really see a glance of him, we realize he’s actually much more “““girly””” (sorry for the term i lacked a better one) than he shows, Especially when compared to sam—who’s supposed to be the more girly one (again sorry for the term lol) or whatever. dean canonically likes taylor swift, chick flick films, actually liked when a woman made him wear underwear, the bailarinas shoe were “speaking to him” in that one ep of cursed objects, and so on. and every time he makes fun of sam for doing something not-manly-enough (like drinking lemon water or drinking from tiny coups) he eventually goes and do the same thing 😭 and i’m 100% sure that the writers just thought “haha funny scene this really straight deadly man does something not so convencional/more feminine(?) haha comedy relief time!!” but it actually just made him have a whole perfect queer background developed in the series. specially with the fact that He Does Overcompensate. why is he always flirting with women, why is he so butch and scary, always talking about straight sex and so on? because he’s really just deep in the closet. and it makes so much sense with john being his father, with him having to hunt two lesbians nuns in his 17 bday, always having to be strong and macho and cool and perfect—and therefore straight. even without cas, dean really does immaculate the bissexual experience and i’m so sorry but this is just true.

and now pointing to the subtext that i mentioned in the first paragraph (lol i can’t believe i’m making a whole rant as to why dean winchester is a confirmed bisexual), that whole confession to that priest where he says he wants experience new feelings, new people, FOR THE FIRST TIME. that always that the show mentioned a gay couple it ALWAYS focused on dean—not sam, DEAN. the gay hunters, the gay couple on the bar that the cupid “made”, the two cosplayers partners… the fact that every time that dean liked something it was borderline fangirl (gay) obsessive (the dr. sexy episode, that wrestler fighter). he Had a gay thing—and was all flustered about it. he flirted with a guy throughout charlie. THE MALE SIREN. the male siren like after that ep i was 100% convinced that man was not straight. he had a hot demon sumer with crowley?!!! and it’s so funny to me that not one of these things involves castiel, so if they really wanted to make dean be that straight why would they do that?? and only to dean, not even once to sam. Like. and not to mention all the homoeretic tension with benny??? sam never had a male best friend like that.. all of that and i didn’t even entered on destiel. Because this then really just confirms that he is Not straight. even if he wasn’t In Love with cas, they had something going on and the fact that if cas was a girl it would 100% be canon and filmed and Everyone would ship—and I really mean everyone—it just makes me go fucking insane. they could’ve had it all. the fanfic episodes, the parallels between dean and cas and “real couples”, ruby and cas duality and the fact that sam indeed had a relationship w/ her. Anyway i’m a # bi dean truth believer and i know this bc same boy # happy pride month to my fav bissexual boy in the whole world

also to anyone that says that “destiel” was unrequited love yes it kinda of was but only bc dean was so deep in the closet, he did love cas. he was indeed a bissexual man. i’ll die on that hill.
