OKAY this was both hard to answer and easy to answer bc i'm good at remember to bookmark my faves (and also reread them all LMAO). that being said!! the below list is not in order, there are honorable mentions, and there's just so much incredible ryeji fic out there that it feels wild to just say 5.

if you haven’t read what’s in a name and you read ryeji fic…… please read it right now? it’s not only my favorite ryeji fic, it’s one of my fave stories of all time (including published shit like this fucking fic is a tour de force). it’s simply one of the most beautiful things i’ve ever read and i could not recommend it enough. (this author’s writing is so good i started watching warrior nun just so i can one day enjoy their warrior nun fics i’m so for real right now)

all or nothing (unfortunately orphaned 😭)

all or nothing is one of my comfort fics. it’s a perfect little two shot and idk how many times i’ve read it. the characterization is just lovely. the ryeji relationship is warm and soft and slow and sweet and inevitable (which you know is just how i like it). perfect amount of getting to know each other, perfect amount of pining, a dreamy dreamy yeji it’s just elite

i was considering not including a qaisal fic on this list, but that doesn’t feel right or honest, like there’s a reason they’re top of the tag!! i think muse is my personal fave (and one of the first ryeji fics i’ve ever read, which is probably true for many! if you’ve somehow read my fics and haven’t read muse i am confused, but it’s just cute as hell! i’m too old to write a high school au, so it’s very nice to have an elite one like this to read and reread when i wanna feel warm and fuzzy inside

this fic…. also one of the first ryeji fics i read. i don’t generally read gp, but when it’s good it’s good, and YAMO is so fucking good. idk how many times i’ve read it. snow has this unfair ability to tie like so much yearning and history and backstory and tension in these simple moments. and then they combine it with some really hot shit? elite smut fic like it’s an all time classic!!!

I know what you're thinking; "What is that ???? Fanart of another franchise???? Could it be done?????". I would be as shocked as you are, if not for the fact that This Moment in the glorious ArleFuri fanfic linked above, written by my beloved bestie @draconicstella88888, leads up to what might be one of the most stunning parts of writing I have ever read. Genuinely had me at a loss for words when I first read it, which I will brag about being one of the first ones to do, because I have been handed the honors of actually beta reading this beautiful story !!

If you haven't already, take this as a sign that y'all should read this too! You don't even have to know anything about the game lore to enjoy it enough to have scenes live in your head rent-free for days and weeks and months on end. Take me as an example of that lol <333

Sometimes Steve gets these crazy dreams. He wakes up from them shivering, hand reaching for something under his bed that doesn’t exist. The plots of them mostly fade after a minute, so he’s left with unsettling images that haunt him whenever he closes his eyes: vines, pulsing like a muscle; caustic spores stuck in the back of his throat; a creature’s mouth unfolding like a toothy flower.  * or, it's 1983, & steve keeps remembering things that haven't happened.

WIP Wednesday

(except i am cheating bc i did not write this today on wednesday. i had to do Job u_u)

So the other day @moonogre sent me this post and was like "I need Violetshipping in this exact situation!" which apparently planted a bunch of worms in my brain bc I wrote 800 words in like an hour. (This is very fast for me.) I am not giving you guys All 800 words bc I don't know how long this thing will end up or if I'll even finish it in a timely manner... gotta keep some cards close to my chest haha. but anyway enjoy! ;w;

They ride face-to-face (practically body-to-body) in awkward silence. Kaiba keeps his gaze fixed doggedly straight ahead, at a point somewhere above Joey’s head, as if he’s not even there. Joey doesn’t have it so easy. If he looks straight ahead, he’s got an eyeful of that bastard’s mouth, his lips pressed together in a hard line. Up makes it look like he’s trying to make eye contact, and down means he’s looking at Kaiba’s stupidly toned pecs. He tries looking to the side, but then people think he’s staring at them, and then they stare back, and call him paranoid but he really doesn’t want anyone staring at him when they’re still kind of on the run from people trying to kidnap (or maybe kill?) them.

The train car jostles again, but before he can even think about falling, Kaiba’s free hand comes to rest on his shoulder, steadying him. The hand drops the moment Joey regains his center of balance, but Joey keeps his eyes fixed on the spot where they had touched, partly because it’s a safe spot to stare at, but partly out of disbelief that the touch had occurred at all.

But it had occurred, and it occurs again. Several more times in the next few minutes, the car shakes, Joey braces futilely against it, and Kaiba holds him in place with a hand to that same spot on his shoulder.

After the third time or so, the hand stays.

Now, suddenly, he’s staring at Kaiba’s hand instead of at his own shoulder, which feels weird (that’s weird, right?), so he raises his head once more. For an instant there’s eye contact, earthy brown against electric blue, and then Kaiba’s eyes snap back to their blank, fixed position. Joey would think he’s just imagined it, were it not for the fact that he’s close enough to see Kaiba’s throat bob with a hard swallow.
