Its extremely interesting watching the whole GOP vs disney situation. Mostly because it involves disneys supposed support of LGBT people, which is a trip.

I wholeheartedly believe that disney self-sabotaged their movies with lgbt rep on purpose. They were losing some people on the left for being homophobic, which was bad for business. But they also needed to keep the conservative majority on their side. So how did they fix this? Make a few movies that are doomed from the beginning, and have them include one gay main character (or even just show a gay person). Refuse to advertise these films beyond the bare minimum. Make the trailer’s purposefully vague to further deter people.

The movies flop, predictably. So badly that they become an example of how bad your company did one year. Sounds bad, some millions are lost in the short term, but now you have data. Data you can point to whenever someone questions the lack of diversity in your films. “Lgbt representation has been proven to lead to financial losses, so it isnt out of bigotry, but out of financial risk that we cut them from our films”. That satisfies the left, and satisfies the right. The left is now sympathetic rather than hostile, and the right is satisfied because their “go woke go broke” mentality has been proven correct. Now their beacon of traditional values is clean. Theyve learned their lesson. Or at least that was how it was supposed to go.

Instead, the left is apathetic, and the right wants disney to burn. You have a company thats been sucking off the GOP for years, got DeSantis into office, paid for the dont-say-gay bill, etc., seeing all of it turn against them. And disneys been strangely quiet about the whole ordeal. For legal reasons maybe, but who knows. This could have been a 4D chess moment too.
