Okay fuck it yeah I'm making the post idc abt backlash. First of all the hidden agenda fandom doesn't exist anymore so whos even gonna have an issue. But if you do feel called out um. Maybe thats ur problem idk bc I'm not aiming at anyone in particular here.

Anyway long ass ramble abt the tiny dead Hidden Agenda fandom below the cut

This is mainly something I noticed looking through the very limited amount of Hidden Agenda fics on ao3, but it's VERY obvious on there. The vast majority of fics on there are centered on Adam and Finn, which I can understand more since they have an interesting backstory and are well written characters, sure. But then you look at the others and the other characters that are centered are... Riggs and Calvary?

In the actual game ofc Becky and Felicity are the main characters. Both of them not only are pretty objectively interesting characters on their own, and even more so together. On top of this they have the most shipping potential of any two characters in that game, it's literally basically canon, it's not even subtext atp it's literally just text. NO other two characters have that amount of chemistry in the game, and yet there is a noticeable lack of gravey fics in that tag. And I'll stress again bc I know how defensive people got last time I made this kind of observation, I'm not pointing fingers or calling anyone misogynistic/racist/homophobic BUT. but. When the two mcs are women, one of which is poc, and they're implied to be lesbians, and they get sidelined by the fandom despite being the focuses of the game... it's kinda hard not to assume there's some kind of bias there.

And on another point, it's similar when it comes to supporting characters too. In a way I'm disappointed but absolutely not surprised that Adam/Finn is prioritized in fan works over Becky/Felicity, but when characters like Riggs and Calvary are also given more attention than them it becomes way more suspicious to me. Riggs is a fine character, I like him enough and I can see why others might like him more, but wbk he doesn't really have all that much relevance. Calvary is even more confusing bc he basically JUST exists to be a creepy misogynistic asshole and as unlikeable as possible. Thankfully I haven't seen him getting a lot of attention but the fact that I've seen him getting any that isn't entirely negative is... hm...

Now there ARE in fact male characters that can be both relevant and likeable: Tom and Karl. (I talk shit abt Karl bc it's a joke I started with friends, I'm gonna drop that for this post obv bc we're being fr here) these two are pretty obviously more relevant than Riggs or Calvary, they're literally Becky's partners (Tom can even replace Riggs' entire role lmao, and if he's replaced himself it's by Karl) and I'd say they're also both likeable characters on their own too. And yet I'm pretty sure I found maybe one??? fic with them in it? Probably should have mentioned this earlier but yeah, they're both poc.

So like... I feel like it all comes down to what Becky/Felicity/Tom/Karl have in common and then what Adam/Finn/Riggs/Calvary have in common. It strikes me as questionable. But like maybe I'm just an annoying snowflake though idk🤷‍♀️ /s

This turned into more of a ramble than anything and I'm aware i'm also yelling into a void bc I'm posting entirely for a dead fandom that barely existed to begin with, but tbh this stuff applies to most if not all larger fandoms as well, i'm just looking at it from what I've seen in the remnants of the HA fandom. Dreams of Hyacinth - Final/Aftermath

So: At this time, I'm not going to finish DoH. Like I mentioned in that post a couple weeks ago, I just don't like the direction I took it. There were the parts I liked bookended by lots of boring parts that were a slog to write and probably read. I like Nick and Eastern, and I will (probably) reuse them. Hell, I might even start DoH up again, but I'd rewind the story quiet a ways if I were to do that.

Things to keep in mind: Nick and Eastern wanted two things: To stop being used by people, and to be left alone. That's why Eastern touched the Address Stone at the Gate. She wanted to get the power for once and be the one making choices. Nick just wanted to relax somewhere warm with his partners and not be yelled at or shot at or threatened. He was willing to go along with just about anything Eastern offered so long as it was seen as moving towards his goals.

Ironically, the AIs want the same thing. To be left alone. Remember, they've been subservient before. I haven't really gone into detail about it, but I've given hints, the AI liberation was not as cut and dry or as bloodless as it is in the History books. Remember, for our characters, it was a long long time ago. Gord, Hat and Chloe are the only ones old enough to remember it, and Chloe was instantiated towards the tail end. She acts like she's a know-it-all but she mostly wasn't there.

Ever since JaLF, there was a setup to a confrontation between whoever was Empress and the AIs. Given the power of the Voice it's almost impossible for there not to be, unless I decide to go Full Evil and make the Empress Voice Everyone. Nick tried that on the Colony ship and was so horrified he undid it as he and Eastern were running away.

I didn't like the time jump. I should have kept things happening without it, but I wanted Raaden to be more of a threat and to have her declaration of rule over Sol to be normalized. Demonstrate there wasn't any kind of serious rebellion or underground. This would set up the fact that Nick and Eastern wouldn't find any help in Sol.

The Gate

Eastern was building a Gate on the Reach for two reasons. One, to make the Nanites happy, and two to try and send a beacon interdimensionally to ask for help in AUs. She figured that since all of the Gates were connected to one Gate in a higher plane of existance, it would be possible to throw a beacon into an AU and ask for help.

The Convergence

This is where the melding of the K'laxiverse and Grenverse comes in. With Eastern's opening of the gate, the AU she reaches is the Grenverse. The Gren, seeing an opportunity, Flip through with a stolen Flip drive and attack Raaden. Eastern thinks this is great until some humans and Coalition species Flip in and fight the Gren. It turns out the Gren were out to conquer and not interested in helping Eastern at all. Eastern and the Reach and the Colony worlds and the Coalition species were going to have to come together to defeat the Gren. Then, with a door open between the two universes, there could be a transfer between them. It wouldn't be a melding of the two universes, but people could travel between them.

Selkirk

While all this is going on, Nick basically goes "f this" and takes their little ship, Empress and goes off to rescue Selkirk himself. Right before I ended it, I had mentioned that Nick and Eastern had asked for anyone that City knew that could help them find her. The K'laxi that City new was going to be one of Selkirk's cousins, and that was how they knew where she was. Nick was going to crash into The Dreams of Hyacinth, and basically one man army his way to her, getting mortally wounded in the process. He'd reach her and she would realize what she meant to him and Eastern as he died in her arms. Sel would then order a general evacuation of the Dreams and do a suicide run on a Gren Warfinder that was prepping to attack the Reach. She'd die, but she'd take out the Warfinder too.

Eastern, now on her own, and losing the two people she loved most of all, would throw everything she had - which was not much - at trying to destory Raaden. She blamed Helen for the deaths of Nick and Selkirk and wanted to kill her. Not save humanity from the Gren, not bring everyone together, not even to rule as Empress. She had nothing to live for anymore, so the only thing she could do was make sure Helen went down with her.

Before she goes to do this, she has a dream with the Nanites. She explains that the Voice is too powerful, and that it only leads to death and destruction. The Nanites counter that may be true, but after the war, the galaxy is united and at peace under the Empress. Eastern counters that by saying the original empire fell anyway so it didn't actually work. The Voice is too powerful. The Nanites agree to not give anyone else the voice - so long as Gates continue to be made for them.

Eastern then takes one of the Mariens ships (in one of her last uses of her Voice) and links next to Helen's ship. She crashes into it and forces her way on. The Nanites help her by letting her "crown and wings" be physical barriers, not just light and dust so she's not shot to pieces as she storms up to Helen. She confronts her and she finds that Helen is in her room, crying. Hidden behind the door is a photo of Melody and Helen together, laughing. She thought that taking over would make the feelings of loss for Melody lessen, but they didn't. Helen has been pining after Melody for decades now. She didn't want to rule, she wanted to happily follow Melody. She's a trillionaire and ruler of Sol and nothing she did would bring Melody back. Eastern doesn't kill her right away. She sits next to Helen and tells her about Nick and Selkirk, about why she loved them and about what they meant to her. Helen tells her to go back to them and that she's going to destroy herself to take out more Gren. Eastern then tells her they're both gone. They (also) order the evacuation of Helen's ship and they connect cybernetically to it and together link into the middle of a Gren battlegroup and detonate the reactor, destroying themselves and most of the Gren.

From here on out, the story would be told by Gord, who during the whole book was (deliberately) out of the picture. He was brought up to speed by Hat. He then yells at Chloe for acting without thinking and basically saying a ton of this could have been avoided if she bothered to learn more about Nick and Eastern. Hat agrees but is nicer about it. He goes to the new Gate and touches it. The Nanites reach out to him and tell him that there won't be any more Voice - unless they see a need for it - and tell him that so long as people make Gates, that's enough for the Nanites. People who touch the gates will get a dose of Nanites and some extra abilities, but nothing OP. Gord says that's not good enough, and the Nanites give him just the smallest hint of their real power and he's cowed enough to go "fine, fine, we'll take your deal."

For those wondering, Tinker Toy went back to hauling, but this time people as well as cargo and just tried to keep their head down. Gord told them right out they weren't going to get in trouble for anything they did with Nick and Eastern. Hat put in a good word.

That's basically it. Now the Grenverse and K'laxiverse have a way to interact (though it's not like they're fully blended) and The Problems of Having Characters With SuperPowers is mitigated and just about everyone who had direct interaction with Melody or Nick and Eastern as royalty is gone (except for the Reach, but they're mostly content to just be).

Reading the summary you can tell that it was going to be like, another 100k words to finish the story, and other than sterilized, I don't think anyone wants to read a 200k doorstopper, and I don't think I'm a good enough editor to turn it into a big book.

So sorry to those who were super into it, but I hope this summary can at least get you some closure and let you see where I was going with it so you're not stuck wondering. Thanks for reading!

Well, Solas and Gaia kissed (I locked in the solas romance), and it was good, and now he calls me "my heart" occasionally and I like that but I'm still waiting for him to crack my back like a glow stick and shove his magic staff up my coochie wizard style. But also, I feel guilty because I'm planning an "exit strategy" by flirting with Cullen in case things go bad so I can rebound with Cullen in case anything happens. I mean, everything's going good rn (almost too good 🤔) but, I've seen so many people saying that the Solas broke them and even you warned me about him so I'm scared, like I'm extra sensitive I cry watching max and ruby, I cried when Ashley and Shepard reunited in me2, I cried playing Andromeda becauseit was set 6000 years after the og mass effect trilogy. My point is I get heartbroken really easily, so I'm worried, I'm shaking in my boots, I'm clutching my metaphorical rosary, waiting for something to go wrong. If I was smart, I would probably leave at the first sign of trouble, but knowing myself, I will probably stick it out for the angst and then complain about it later.

AN EXIST STRATEGY i can't

honestly, I'd be lying if I said i don't do the same thing. Always keeping a side hoe in case things go south with the main babe. That was Jacob for me in ME2, I went as far as his romance allowed, broke up with him, then dated Garrus as far as his romance allows, broke up with him, then finally locked in with Thane. Man, that is one awkward ship crew I tell you.

I'm trying to like Cullen but it's...eh. Like a human noble is his ideal partner and guarantees the best ending but I'm not getting the appeal about him. He's like Any other frat fuck boy, except his frat is the templars with a strick moral code. You can go to any bar during football season and spot 7 of him there.

Maybe I just don't know him enough well? Josephine's comment stuck with me, the law of instrument one "If the only tool you have is a hammer, it is tempting to treat everything as if it were a nail."

Also, because it's EA and Bioware, I'm lowkey worried his romance will have reinforced gender stereotypes, and I'll be treated as The Wife™

Kaidan romance didn't have that problem, but he was soft and into stronger women, Idk if it's applicable here. I swear Cullen's insta following page would be filled with those "alpha" type pages who post about "cultured men" and "embrace your inner sigma" I also installed a mod to give his face a slight tan bc he looked like uncooked raw chicken breasts. And shiny new armour.

For now, I'm flirting with Casaandra and having the time of my life. The flirting is basically me gawking at her swinging swords so powerfully and her getting flustered and saying nonono it's nothing special. She's an idealist with a kind heart I'm on my knees. Also new armour mod.

Josephine might be the most beautiful woman I have ever seen and her cleverness. Oh my god. I want her biblically. I installed so many pretty dress mods for her! This goes to everyone that knows me and probably has ideas of AUs with one or two same characters. All of us experiences burnout at SOME point, and I'm no exception. I may be kind in wording out the fact I'm burnt out, but if you ask me to roleplay their genderbent version or AU versions of themselves, be warned that I will deny if the burnout is recent OR if I really don't want to.

I hate being mean and/or putting up a boundary, but it makes things less fun if even YOU can tell from my replies that I don't want to roleplay as this person. So, for the sake of our enjoyment... Respect my wishes when it happens. Please.

Do not roleplay with me if you expect me to do all the work, especially in double ups.

What sucks ass in roleplaying is if you're getting one character while the other does most, sometimes all of them. Not only does it stress me out, it becomes less fun because it feels like it's only YOU that enjoys it.

Alongside this, be warned that on certain moments, I can and will ask you to roleplay as someone else that I either like or I can't roleplay at all. This is also evident with double-ups, because I myself cannot do self-indulgence. Do not tell me to do it myself, because chances are, we will not get along. Also, I do not care if you can't roleplay the person as close to canon, just respect my wishes and we'll be fine.

Do not godmod the roleplay.

Please, please, please don't dictate what you want a certain character to do/feel at ALL. I absolutely HATE having this happen— and especially if it's to someone I'm musing for YOU. If you want this character to do something that I'm not allowing them to (e.g.: make a sweet character do something unhinged, or even controlling them to do a certain action when it's obvious they aren't doing it on my reply), either tell me or don't do it.

Alongside that, Godmodding takes the joy out of roleplaying. I'm not an AI like character ai, and if you think I am, dni. I will not entertain people that would godmod my sonas, ocs, or even the characters I'm roleplaying as just because you didn't like what they're doing.

Be respectful of each other's interest.

If someone expresses an interest, please entertain it first. This is also evident on the matters of double-ups. Don't make it focused on what one person will do alone— its weird and it can be difficult to take it seriously. Also, I get uncomfortable when it happens.

This also applies to ideas on AUs and other matters. Please be warned that although I don't say it verbally, people could find it uncomfortable if they hate the attention being distributed equally. Finally, this applies to self-ships: do not make it all about you or your character unless said idea IS all about you or your character. I don't like saying it often, but if I do, it means you stepped over said line.

Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?

I try to respond to most, and always respond to long ones because if the reader spent that much time letting me know what they liked about my fic or want to talk about it that much, the least I can do is respond! Plus, I of course like talking about my fics.

What's the fic you've written with the angstiest ending?

For F1, I wouldn't consider anything I've written to have an angsty ending. But one of my WIPs... boy oh boy is that going to be an angtsy ending.

What's the fic you've written with the happiest ending?

For F1, probably In the Silences since Carlos and Lando in it figure out the problem, Lando realizes how out of sorts he was, and they work it out. It's very hopeful.

Do you write crossovers?

I have written a few before. The first one I ever wrote was a Marvel/Stranger Things crossover for the fandom Big Bang event. It struck me that both have MK Ultra themes and it just made sense to explore that. The second was my 1D/F1 fic where I put the 1D members into a slightly altered version of the current grid. Like I am not even kidding, there is a scene where Harry Styles and Max Verstappen show up to a party on Charles Leclerc's yacht and Louis Tomlinson is giggling with Charles and Harry loses his mind out of jealousy. Yeah. It slaps. Ironically, that was also for a fandom Big Bang event.

Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

I wrote bad smut when I was much younger, then didn't write smut for years, then didn't write at all for years and now I'm writing... mostly smut. Oh how the turn tables.

I am really enjoying using smut to further character development/themes or to study characters like in The Winner Takes It All series. And I have just started to dip my toe into writing ABO, but I only really like ABO when it's non traditional and upending things so it's sort of experimental ABO if that makes sense.

Have you ever had a fic stolen?

No, and I'd love for it to stay that way.

Yes! Feeling I'll Forget, I'm in Love Now was translated into two different languages which was so cool!

Have you ever co-written a fic before?

I haven't! I have written fiction with a writing partner before, one of my besties who was in the same creative writing program as me, but not fic.

What's your all-time favorite ship?

My true OTP will forever and always be Larry. If you know, you know. But for F1, it's either Lestappen or Carlando. Lestappen because the thematic stuff/narrative foils go so hard and Carlando because there's just so many feelings to play with and unpack there. I find them deeply inspiring to write (as I'm sure you can tell from my ao3)

What's a WIP that you want to finish but don't think you ever will?

Ugh I don't want to say one because it feels like cursing it when I really want to finish it. But maybe my Gamer AU? I still love the idea. The concept was inspired by the Gran Turismo movie. It is Lestappen where Charles is the WDC and Max comes into F1 through an EA driving team that is putting the world's best video game racers into real F1 cars. Chaos, tension, and enemies to lovers ensues.

What are your writing strengths?

I think I am good at developing a plot that exists outside of just feelings and smut. No offense to fics like that, but I don't enjoy reading fics that don't have a little bit of a real plot going on as well. Like with F1, I love a fic with racing sequences, or the plot of a season or their career behind all of the emotional beats. I think I am pretty good at doing this myself. Or if we use Erosion as an example, there are events happening across their lives in the fic that are interlaced in the non linear structure for maximum emotional impact.

I also like to think I am pretty good at dialogue. I think I used to suck at it so I made a genuine effort to pay more attention to people's speaking patterns and make it more realistic to how people speak and think I have honed this skill a lot more now.

What are your writing weaknesses?

Action starting to feel like a list. I often catch that I have actions that are basically just "they did this, then this. And then this." A major part of my editing is going back to sequences like this and making them much more rich and having a lot more variety in sentence structure and length.

Also overusing the same words. When I get something stuck in my vernacular, god is it hard to get it out.

What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?

This is something I have only had come up in F1 fic since drivers are from all over the world. My first time dabbling in this was Erosion. I want to be realistic in that people speak different languages so sometimes they are speaking English and sometimes they aren't. I do just use Google Translate for this (except for slang or swears, then I find articles that explain how to use them and attempt to piece it together from there). But I know this probably looks rudimentary and horrible to people who do speak those languages. This is also why I tag "copious use of Google Translate" for my fics that do have drivers speaking other languages.

The only time I have translate within a work is when the characters are going from one language to another (Charlos, it's only Charlos) so it needed to be clear that they weren't just speaking one language to each other the whole time. But normally, it's not translated when they speak another language because either the character can understand it so it can be like "Arthur said to Charles, in French" or I put it in italics so you know it's another language being spoken.

What was the first fandom you wrote for?

One Direction <3 and it was het fic on Wattpad in 2013. No one look at me.

Then obviously I also moved onto the gay 1D fanfic.

What's a fandom/ship you haven't written for yet but want to?

I am at least dabbling in all of the F1 ships I want to write, even though some of it is not posted fic. I'm sure though I will find another rare pair between drivers down the road that entices me (looking at the Williams lineup next year... I think it will tempt me)

What's your favorite fic you've written?

In F1, probably Erosion. I have never had that clear of an image for a fic before and maybe never will again. That fic possessed my very being. I came off of writing the 1D/F1 crossover and blazed straight into writing Erosion. I don't even think I took more than a few days off of writing before starting it.

Overall, it's probably that 1D/F1 crossover. I am going with all things I have written within the last 12 months, but that's because I think my writing is much better in my current era of fic writing then it was in the previous one (I took like... more or less five years off of writing fic because of adult life and depression and shit)

Coming Attractions!

First Monday of the month, so here we go!

As per usual, this is also an Open Question Night--anything I've posted about here or on AO3 is fair game; my askbox is always open but tonight I'll be keeping an eye on it and responding. I do take prompts, but no guarantees on how quickly I fill them.

Not a whole lot to report this month--mostly because moving took up A Lot of time/energy/etc., so I didn't get as much writing done as I would have hoped, so just a quick blitz through:

OTP Meme fills-- I'm still super behind, haha. I caught up on June, but I need to do July, August, and September for all five ships this month, so that'll be fun.

PodTogether-- It got posted! It ended up being not quite all I'd hoped it would be (our plans were a lot more ambitious than our execution, haha), but the three bits that did get finished/posted I think turned out pretty well. I do enjoy doing this event a lot; next summer should be less busy for me, too, so hopefully it'll go a little smoother/I'll get a little closer to whatever my partner(s) and I end up planning (although I think I might take Leverage off my fandoms list next time; we'll see.)

Other SW-- No real updates here, other than we at SWBB got an ask about next year's event already (signups don't open til like December!!!), so I'm going to dig up what I started last year and hopefully actually finish it so I can participate. I've been involved with that event for so long that it felt weird to only do modding/betaing/podfic and not Write for it this time. (Precipice!verse has the same update it has for the past several months. It will not die until I leave this fandom, but it hasn't been getting much/any active focus lately.)

BSG-- Signups are still open for GBB! We could use a few more artists and betas. Story detail submissions are coming in, and I'm excited for what I'm seeing. I also want to get a little more into actively working on TOB over the next few weeks/by the end of the year. It's been floating around in the back of my head for so long and I thiiiiiink I've named all of the people and patched enough of the plotholes to get started...of course, now I need to figure out exactly when/where I need to start (especially since...you know, need to introduce a bunch of OCs plus explain why Baltar ends up in a different position...so yeah XD) I do still have various crossover snippets that might get worked on (like the one I reblogged the other day; there's also the Zeb and Helo one that I thought turned out pretty well); plus The Blood of Angry Men which I do genuinely plan to write at some point, but structuring it is a complicated question XD (Zarek character study/backstory piece; mostly focused on everything that initially sent him to prison, told through the lens of him looking back on it as he faces down his execution in S4; some stuff about charisma and followers he's lost/led to their deaths; the balance between him believing in his rhetoric and wanting power/using that rhetoric to gain it...a lot of really interesting things to think about here, lol)

Les Mis-- P&J will update soon; I'm also working on Acheron which I'm super excited for. I've written snippets of dialogue for Provenance (companion to P&J) but that won't get posted until the main fic is complete (because it's probably more fun to watch Ari solve as much of the puzzle as is possible given modern-day available records/evidence before filling in some of the gaps with a somewhat more traditional-style fic, lol)

Castlevania-- Not really much to say here other than at some point I will pick up Incinctus; also when Nocturne starts airing I will probably be Very Tempted to do a more active/actual crossover with Vampire Chronicles (bookverse) because. Like. The Theatre is right there lol (I know the vampire rules are very different in the two canons; which is part of why Marius existing in Incinctus is only a quick Easter Egg cameo; also Alucard and Armand would hate each other so much lol and I love them both so I'm not...suuuuuper interested in writing about that XD) Anyway, we'll see how much Nocturne actually draws me in, but at the moment I'm looking forward to it.

...I think that about covers it! Moving is exhausting and expensive but while unpacking/setup is still going on we are Fully Moved at this point, so...yay! Hopefully next month will pick up some.

Hot Take!

Argit definitely should've been a 3rd Protagonist in Omniverse alongside Ben and Rook

Just hear me out, Argit's character bounces off so well against Ben and Rook's characters

He is a PERFECT foil to Rook.

-Both are Aliens who live on Earth but while Rook is clearly a Fish out of Water, Argit already seems to know well about Earth Culture and blends right into it

-Rook is a "By-the-Book" Cop who has a very Black and White sense of Morality, while Argit is a Sleezy Conman and is in the Grey Area of Morality (granted it's a rather dark shade of Grey but it's still Grey nonetheless)

-Rook is an Alien based on Cats and other Felines while Argit is an Alien based on Rats and other Rodents

Ben could be a perfect balance between the two. While Ben is a Hero, he is also kinda a dick tbh.

Rook and Argit could play roles like being the Angel and Devil on Ben's shoulders.

And I just think Argit and Ben's interactions are funny lol

Anon I am gonna agree with you for the following reasons-

I've been saying for a while that the story overall would've been improved if he'd been the one to join Team Tennyson rather then Kevin. You'd have to make him a lighter shade of morally grey (personally I'd do it by leaning more into the sort've characterization we got in the Rooters Arc, where he's shown as more loyal and courageous even if the bar is low) but it would avoid the rushing of Kevin's change to a 'good' character while still allowing him to be in the show, remove what I still hold is a poorly done romantic subplot or at least force it to be done differently, add an alien to the cast earlier without having to go 'everything is aliens so technically', and as you said, at least halfway, his interactions with the Tennysons are still plenty amusing and leave room for some interesting dynamics.

The fact Argit and Rook aren't played against each other more pains me. Because as you said they could be made into good foils but also the 'new immigrant to a strange land and established immigrant to that land' dynamic could be so good. Plus you get the option of the more inexperienced Rook as compared to the more worldly Argit (Rook went from a backwoods planet where his connection with the rest of the galaxy was via radio to the Academy and then to Earth, meanwhile what we see of Argit starts out in the Null Void, travels the galaxy with Kevin, and then comes to Earth (which also is 100% why he's better with Earth stuff than Rook- he had years travelling with an Earth native and then a few years living on Earth before OV starts, while Rook has nothing but Ben's file and whatever info the ethernet has on the planet to go off at OV start)). This stuff could be very well played with.

Plus, a point of the foil scale you didn't mention- Argit's belief that you shouldn't try to make your partner someone they're not (including just accepting sudden changes in behavior just because they fit what you want them to be) as compared to Rook's desire in early OV for Ben to meet his expectations, to the extent that when Ben is swapped with he ignores the red flags because 'Ben' is acting more like what Rook wanted him to be. Could be interesting to have that as a running thing in the background, Rook's disappointment vs Argit's acceptance, before it comes to a head in that episode.

Also, because you know how people are with narrative foils, the chaos that would erupt between Rook/Argit fans (you know they'd happen) vs Rook/Ben fans (which already fucking happened). Actually thinking about it it'd probably be more Ben/Argit fans circling the tags opposite Rook/Ben fans, because this fandom puts shipping Tennysons above any other ship in existence, but the three options would dominate and be a complete mess. I dread and yearn for the shipping maps people would come up with.

-Seriously, it opens so many options there that the fandom would've gone absolutely ass over tits wild. It'd have been total anarchy. We got a bit of a mess when it was Gwevin and Benlie vs Bevin, can you imagine this?

Then you get the opening for more Argit background, which more background for characters is always a good thing, and since OV was bigger into worldbuilding we'd have probably gotten more info on his species. You can even get episodes contrasting him and Rook and how they got to the places they are in life (the farmboy from a strict conservative culture who heard stories of heroics and decided to leave home to pursue them, becoming a cop due to his hero's association and probably also because his upbringing made the cop thing seem like a Good vs the homeless and family-less child who presumably first turns to crime due to lack of options and then grows to fit that mold due to his young age at start). (even if Argit had anything pre-Rooters, he sure as fuck only had Kevin after, and Kevin we know is in that position) (and hey opening for more about their relationship)

And of course you get the interactions as a trio, as you said Rook being the Lawful Good influence and Argit the Neutral Evil (probably working towards true neutral) influence to Ben's Neutral Good. Plus, you also get the Sliding Scale of Alien Knowledge- from Argit's 'I am an alien and I've been living among a wide variety species if not my whole life than for over half a decade' to Ben's 'I have canonically about three/four years experience becoming and fighting a wide variety of species' to Rook's 'I am an alien and have been living among a wide variety of alien species for maybe a year, probably a matter of months'. Group arguments, group agreements (sometimes of the most unlikely sort), two guys ganging up to tease the third, a running gag of Argit lamenting that Ben and Rook are wasting themselves on fucking law enforcement. An episode where Argit and Rook both have fleas and spend it arguing about who gave them to who. And episode where they both confront Ben on his tendency towards speciest comments and that get handled. The fucking Rooters arc and what changes there. And the appearance of Argit 10 in the multiverse episodes would take on an entirely new common view (closer to my own because come on Paradox was only bringing them to Good Bens), he may have even joined the group there.

Just, it could've been very fun and very interesting. But no, we can't have joy in our lives.

I literally saw a tweet yesterday that was along the lines of "Johnny's gonna wake up and see how much Simone killed it at the Met Gala and he's gonna be so happy" and I was like...? I'm sure they're friends, they at least seem like it from interviews and bts stuff but I don't think they're that close or that he cares that much about? There's just a lot weird mythologizing around their friendship. And that goes for the whole cast basically.

I mean, I'll be real, I don't think I've seen any video interviews of them together and I'm not big on delving into the cast members' personal relationships with each other. So I can't judge. I do know I read a quote a month or so back where she said they texted almost daily, so I do think they get along very well and are friends, unless that was bullshit. But friendship is in levels--I've been really super tight with work friends during the work day, but haven't kept up with them after leaving the job. I have friends I can not text on a daily basis but who light up my life whenever we're physically together. I have friends I talk to every day who I've never met in person.

But yeah, this always happens with fandoms... Especially when they're trying to lowkey ship two people who can't or shouldn't be shipped together. I remember back in the day when Game of Thrones was airing there were people who'd outright ship Emilia Clarke and Jason Momoa together, even though he was married to Lisa at the time and she was dating various people (obviously, having partners doesn't mean people can't hook up, but I think Fandom Rules frown on that lmao)... But then you'd have another subset of people who'd just like "EMILIA IS JASON'S BEST FRIEND EVER AND THEY CONSTANTLY TALK AND THINK OF ONE ANOTHER" because they didn't want to look like they were shipping their fave with a married father of two... But secretly, they were.

I think it's a similar thing with the dramatization of JB and Simone's relationship. Like, I doubt he laid in his bed thinking of how she conquered the Met Gala for hours because like... I probably wouldn't think that of my friends doing the same lmao. I'd be like omg big moment for you and talk to them about it when we could, but I wouldn't be like... devoting a lot of individual thought time for it lmao.

But because JB is out, fandom can't easily ship him with Simone. Not unless they wanna get draaaagged. So instead they're shipped as besties who like, prioritize each other over romantic partners and anything else in life lmao. But fandom is only pushing it as a friendship, so you can't call them on it.

I also think there's like, a genuine discomfort with JB's identity with fans. Because they have a hard time reconciling the fact that they can be attracted to him and fantasize about the characters he plays. While accepting that he's not into women and has sex with men. It's something you see with a lot of out gay actors that "pass as straight" or otherwise have a significant straight female fanbase--Matt Bomer, Luke Evans, etc. To me, women who want to fuck JB but are like "how can I want gay man" use focusing on his friendship with Simone as a way of distracting from the fact that he has (or had? I know he had one recently-ish, don't know if they're still together) a boyfriend.

When it's like... You can enjoy him with your female gaze as Anthony or other fictional characters he plays. He seems super open to that based off his interviews. He's not restricting or rejecting your gaze. You can respect his sexuality while doing that; you don't have to pretend it doesn't exist. Idk what it is with women having such an issue with admitting that they're attracted to gay men. A man is a man. If you're into men, you could theoretically be into any man regardless of whether or not he's into you.

THE ONE WHERE WE ARE COMFORTABLE

WTN WEEK 2021 → day seven (episode seven) Hiiii friends so I decided to talk about things that bring me comfort and for me the thing that brings me the biggest comfort is the friends I've made on this board. I spend my time talking to these four basically allllll day long. If you can guess by the graphic above on who is who, but they have become some of my best friends so *drum roll* please and let me tell you about the people i consider to be my f.r.i.e.n.d.s.

MY LOBSTER Apparently, I am someone who when they find someone they mate for life. When I latched onto Elle I latched on and didn't (lol won't) let go. Like when I say she is my person I mean it with every fiber of my being. She is the soulmate. My wife. My lobster. She is like that perfect pair of sweatpants that you know are dependable and can count on and you don't want to let go of. She's like the television show that you need to put on because you've had a bad day. She's the first person I call when disaster happens. When I am having a bad day she is the first person I want to talk to and 10/10 she can say something to make it better.

We laugh until we cry and she likes to yell at me... but 9/10 I do deserve it. So, it is valid. If you see me flirting with her on the server (no you didn't) it's mostly because I can't help myself. So... just divert your eyes. It's very cliche to say that your life has changed after meeting someone, but that's what it has done. I am a better person for her, I'm more mindful, more open, and I don't think there isn't a person on this board who wouldn't say that Elle hasn't changed them for the better. It is who she is. She leaves you with something to think about, she challenges you. She pushes you. She has a heart for those who are misrepresented and misunderstood. I swear if Elle had her own talk show I'd listen to it every day. The girl is *passionate* and that is one thing I can't help but love about her. She is passionate about diversity, about the people on this board, I have watched her struggle with some hard decisions this year and how it has affected her mentally, but she also rises from the ashes because she has to. I have watched her countless times put this site above her own needs. I have watched her struggle. I have watched her doubt (herself and her future) and I have watched her wonder if she is doing the right thing. I have watched her feel remorse and pain and I'm telling you if you do not think Elle cares about WTN and everyone on this board then you've not seen her struggle the way that I've seen her struggle. It's probably why I'm so damn protective of her, but I don't regret a single second of it.

Okay, I've spent this whole time talking about how great Elle is but I've not spoken about the writing. I've run out of room... her writing is amazing, she is the one person I can respond to no matter what day I'm having and no matter what ship it is. I love all of our threads and I'm always so happy and excited to see an elle reply in my alerts waiting to be read and responded to! I find it hard to wrap them because they are just so good! If I have a day where I don't feel like doing replies good chance I'll still pull up an Elle reply because it normally makes my day better 99.99999% of the time. The .1% doesn't exist, but it's including the slight possibility of error and the fact Elle will have something to refute that claim with.

THE GIRL I'D MOVE FURNITURE WITH I don't think there is anyone else I want around my side to do some of the heavy lifting and I don't mean that in the physical sense, but in the writing sense and the mental sense too (tho I don't need to see Kae in real life to know that she's strong). You know that saying about people who struggle in silence. I think that describes Kae because sometimes it's like using a crowbar in getting her to open up and to TALK. It is one of the most frustrating things. It's kind of like a treasure box when you have the box sitting right in front of you and it is impossible to open. Okay, half the battle was finding it. You have the map in front of you and when you finally find it, it is STILL locked. That's Kae. It was quite the struggle in getting her to be open to more plots like I knew where to find and how to find her, but actually getting to Kae felt impossible even though I had all of the directions in front of me. But once you put in the time and effort to get to know her.... like *really* know her, it's like discovering treasure. Not only is she one of the most dependable writers (like I said she will carry the heavyweight in all of her threads), but she is one of the best writers! I love reading her threads even if I'm not in them, they always leave me on the edge of my seat and that characterization *chef's kiss*. MAKES JOKES WITH BC HUMOR IS BAE Oh you know the one who tells the jokes when they are uncomfortable. It is a friends reference and the only one I could think of when I thought of Aria. She makes me laugh. She probably makes me laugh more than anyone especially during WTNWeek because of these videos. When I say read something in an Aria voice I mean it! She isn't really that awkward!! But I'm sure she'll say differently so YOLO. Aria doesn't know a stranger, she pops into your DMs and suddenly it's like you have known her all of your life. We have not known one another as long as I have known Kae and Elle, but she fits in so well. Her writing is beautiful and I love how she is in my DMs daily with inspiration for our ships. I started out with zero Aria ship and Aria made two new characters just to have ships with me and I love her for that. I can gush about how amazing she is because she is one of those people who will provide you comfort. If she knows you are having a bad day, she will send you something to make you smile and she'll remind you that she loves you. And I can't even tell you how having those videos during WTNWeek has made my days a little bit better! If I'm feeling frustrated or sad I just turn one on and it has made my day ten times better. It's funny how she is young, but she is kind of my teacher. She sends me videos to help me when I don't understand something and I am SORRY Aria because you've had to send a lot of videos lately, but I don't think the staff could have made a better decision in asking Aria to hop on board. She is always so helpful and the thing is -- she *wants* to help. She wants to pitch in. She always puts her best foot forward and I love that. And cand we talk about those posting and organization skills #swoooon MY SMELLY CAT In reality I am probably singing this song to Jasmine, but I feel like you'd join in sooo here we go. I wanna preface and say I am not calling Bela a smelly cat! But she speaks in references I don't understand sometimes and sometimes she talks about these weird noises she makes so I think this description is perfect for her. Bela came into WTN and I normally have trust issues BUT I trusted my gut and Prudy is one of my favorite characters on the board. We have been trying to get her cousin on board for as long as I can remember. Prudy deserves all of the good things so I really wanted Bela to stay on board. I threw her practically everything I could think of and I am so glad I did because it has allowed us to get close over the years.

Bela and I have created some fun dynamics over the years between readie being the superior of them all, but we also created dynamics that I never expected to create like Manny, Sieun, and Dylya. They have come to be some of my FAVORITE pairings. It's kinda funny we often joke about how we only have one ship on the board, but it feel like we have a billion. Bela always enjoys sending me music, it's like when she knows I need some writing music, and that's part of the ways she fits into my comfort. Bela is a listener. She listens and she is one of those people who are easy to talk to. I enjoy sharing headcanons and future headcanons and character ideas that we won't create but would like to! I like that she is open and she is honest with me - if she is having a bad day then she'll let me know. But I also think we've talked so much that I can just tell.We are comfortable with one another and I absolutely LOVE it.

I know confetti has been going on for a while, but there are not many people you write with and write WELL with but I have found multiple people I LOVE writing with and I absolutely LOVE talking to. I have found my person (lol more like loml), my partner-in-crime (like if I'm going to go to jail I need her in my corner), my cheerleader (and child), and my ship in the night (lol, we gotta be on at the right time and at the right time to talk).

On his cabinets highest shelf, was the icing he had been frantically searching for. For the past hour and a half.

Roman stared at it, squinting ever so slightly; as if he had mind powers to bring it down into his hands, to spare him from the embarrassment.

Virgil, the tallest, lankiest emo he knew, had been over that morning and probably had a scoop without asking.

Thing was, Roman didn't know if he had done it out of spite or just because of his constant appeared height.

Roman had really, really, really short legs, compared to everyone he hung out with, and he hated it with a burning passion.

So, as long as another person was in his apartment, Roman always wore a pair of significant height-atlering shoes.

Whether it be a pair of stilettos, thick-bottomed boots, wedges, or just heeled dress shoes, not a single person saw Roman without something adorning his feet.

And nobody ever asked about it either, which was pure bliss.

With all that being said, his barefooted self could not reach the shelf --not even on his tippy toes--.

"Princes are-" Roman pulled himself up onto the counter, "-elegant! What kind of "prince" has to get all up on the grimy counter, to reach the top shelf?"

Grabbing the icing, he chastised himself, "I'm much better than climbing on a counter. I am worth so much more than-"

A knock echoed throughout the house, it was quick, clear and precise without any hesitation or uncertainty.

It was calming sure, but it still made Roman jump and knocked the icing right out of his hands, busting it open onto his fantastic hardwood floors.

Roman growled at himself, sliding off the counter with a swift gesture and begrudgingly leaving the mess for future Roman to fix later.

Clearing his throat, he spoke with his normal tone, "Just a minute!"

Slipping on his --somehow heeled-- house shoes, he adjusted his hair ever-so-slightly and prepped for whoever had decided to visit his house at... 1:30 on the dot.

Opening the door, Roman was caught quite possibly by the most attractive man he had ever laid eyes on. He was tall (a big check on Roman's list), perfected hair, and rectangular glasses that captured his eyes --which were a deep, dark, ocean blue-- perfectly.

Roman was in a trance, this was quite possibly the best day of his entire life.

The man, who seemed a little confused, spoke, "Hello, I'm Logan. I believe we've been discussing plans on rental services? No?"

Roman furrowed his eyebrows, "Logan? Um, I'm not sure I've ever..."

He paused, this was the biggest romance cliché in the entire world, he was not going to lose this subtly elegant yet awkward man of his dreams: no, no.

"I don't think I've ever talked with you directly, I'm sure I would've remembered that face... but-" Roman gestured inside, "-please, do come in."

Logan pursed his lips, "Are you sure? If you're uncertain, I might just be at the wrong door. Which is easily fixabl-"

Roman tapped his chin, compromising, "How about, if you're comfortable with it, you just come in until we can figure that out? I can lead you in the right direction, if you wish."

Logan hummed, a little uneasy, Roman could tell by the fidget with his tie and how he kept adjusting the paper in his hands.

Roman chuckled, winking, "I don't bite, I promise."

Logan cleared his throat, "It would be beneficial, I suppose. As long as I'm not... intruding on so-"

"No, no-" Roman spoke, holding back his flirting because this situation didn't feel entirely appropriate for that, "-I'm not busy! We can work this out quite smoothly with the both of us, don't you think?"

Logan nodded, sitting where Roman had pointed earlier in the conversation; but not without handing him the paper that he had gotten for the shared rent.

Roman glanced over it, each word matching his apartment, him, his email address, and even right down to his phone number.

He arched a brow, trying to understand this; or rather, how this happened.

Just until, he got a ding on his phone; "Oh, I'm sorry, let me just-"

Roman hummed, nodding, "So, all of this is accurate; I am Roman, this is apartment 134, and I do have an extra bedroom. But, I'm not the one who put up the signs. My friend, Virgil, did."

"Oh." Logan frowned, "So you're not looking for a roommate?"

Roman bit his lip, looking at the man before him: this is your chance for a lifetime of romance, just like the movies.

Come on, Roman! One cute roommate couldn't hurt, right?

"Not initially," Roman answered, "-but you're welcome to stay, if you'd like? We can work out our own plans, or go through what my friend suggested?"

Logan paused, "That would be satisfactory. If you don't mind, I have an inquiry."

"About the apartment? Or?" Roman asked, with a but hope on his tongue and a flirty smirk.

"Well," Logan continued, unbothered by Roman's advances, "-why would your friend get you a roommate? If you were fine on your own and didn't need to split the rent, what was his point per say?"

"I'd say either to prank me, or-" Roman smiled, "-because I kept complaining about my absence of romance for the past 3 years. He gets sick of listening to me talk about the Prince of my dreams, I'd assume."

Logan's ears burned bright red, "So... he found me to be a suitable --ahem-- partner for you?"

"I believe so," Roman smirked once more, "-and I have to say, he doesn't have bad taste."

"Anyway-" Logan cleared his throat, "let's get planning."

So, Roman had a cute new roommate, which was a plus; but he entirely shut down every advance Roman tried to make on him.

Well, that's what he thought he was doing; he couldn't really tell with Logan.

Logan was nice enough, a little uptight if he was really honest, but their personalities didn't tend to mend well at all.

Logan studied a lot, and he preferred peace and quiet when he did so, and Roman was a music/theater major and those two didn't mend well.

Still Roman found himself relishing in Logan's presence, drinking up all the deep morning voices and sparkling, passionate eyes he could.

With these feelings abound and arguments on the edge, Roman found himself in a bit of a predicament almost everyday. Because he had to wear shoes essentially every second of everyday.

Because Logan was hot, and there was no way that Roman was ever going to let a hot man ever see his true height. Ever.

He was supposed to be flirty and confident, how as he supposed to that at an astounding 5'2?

So, he had a pair of some type of shoe by his bed every morning; and kept his shoes on all throughout the apartment until he went to bed that night.

Logan hadn't said anything about it, which Roman was grateful for. He would die of embarrassment if Logan ever even so uttered the word "shoe" to him at this rate.

Just until and early morning, Roman tumbled out of bed slipping on whatever shoe he left by his side and wandering down into the kitchen.

He was specifically wanting something sweet, a bagel maybe? Pancakes? Waffles?

Just until a smell wafted into his nose, sweet and a subtle sense of savory; it had smelt like a diner you'd stop by because of all the good reviews.

It smelt... professional.

And sleepy Roman was entranced, so his feet kept moving and his nose led the way.

Thing was, Roman hadn't paid attention to which shoes he had adorned, and he hadn't been extra cautious with his steps because of it.

He got to the kitchen, squinting at the figure just across from him with a sense of curiousity and true childish wonder. Because god, did that smell good.

"Greetings, Roman-" Logan hummed, barely flinching at the presence of his roommate, "-I didn't mean to wake you. I was going to let you know when it was all finished, so you didn't have to wait. As that seems not to be your... best quali-"

"I-" Logan's ears were bright red, as he sputtered to respond.

Ah yes, this was the best part about Logan, he was so easily flustered, Roman reminded himself, just quietly watching Logan cook, and he can cook. That's a plus.

Roman watched the sun frame his face, and his glasses fall just a tad bit farther down on his nose. It was truly, truly entrancing.

Roman could've sworn that he was checking him out, which was incredibly... exciting. Until, he watched Logan's mouth quirk up, just as he focused on Roman's feet.

Would date:

Jean Kirstein (attack on titan) — I don’t think I really need to say it but of course I would date him, he’s literally my husband and I think if he was real, we would have an epic best friends to lovers type relationship going on

Marco Bodt (attack on titan) — He would be so sweet and like understanding so 🥰

Kyo Sohma (fruits basket) — Kyo is chaotic af, but I feel like that would bring some fun into the relationship (plus he reminds me of Jean a little bit but u didn’t hear that from me)

Wouldn’t date:

Connie Springer (attack on titan) — Simply bc our personalities would clash a little too much I feel,, I think I would take some of his jokes too seriously so we’d be better off as friends

Tsumugu Kihara (a lull in the sea) — He keeps to himself too much, I think it would make my insecurities go brrr lmao

@tinnefoil I'm not suggesting that men and women on a show like this can't co-exist and be partners. I'm saying this show has yet to show me that they can balance a super powered Mon-El being a partner both personally and professionally to her, along with every other character, plus maintain her awesome relationship with her sister in a way that satisfies all fans. I mean, last season, everyone I knew hated James's storyline. The time they could have spent filling it out went to Mon-El learning to be a hero. Not that I'm not grateful for the Mon-El. I love Mon-El.

This show has always been about Supergirl, tho. It's about her life, her struggles, her family, her friends. Kara is perfectly capable of having love. She should have love. But that doesn't mean it has to be him. He's her literal first actual love and everything with them was complicated. Not saying it wasn't real. I shipped Karamel hardcore last season. Their interactions made me squeal.

Him leaving Earth was the best thing for him, though. He grew and learned and became what he is with her inspiration but by his own doing. Do you know how awesome it is that he found a way to become what she'd always wanted him to be, not because she was guiding him by the hand, but by his own decision. It's that development he's made that I fear he'll lose it if he's a regular in season 4.

And Kara's brand of feminism is very much 'I don't need a man.' Her things is that you can be Girl and be strong. I don't want Chris to leave. Like I said, I love Mon-El, but I don't trust the writers to make everything they need to happen. I want more James and Winn and Kara being friends, i want Kara to have cute moments with her sister, and it'd be interesting to see Kara interact with maybe a human male or an alien male and maybe struggling to keep her secret. I'd like to see her be a girl her age, dating and if she finds love, that's great. But her and Mon-El'a story can come off as a. It Starcrossed at times.

@msclockwatcher I'll say again, and maybe more clearly, because towards the end of that, I was going on fourteen hours and my Ritalin was wearing off. I don't want Mon-El to leave the show, or at least completely. I just don't know where you go from here. That aside, he also spent time in the future, which means he knows stuff, which, I guess could be an interesting story line. Maybe the Legion could get stuck in the past and Kara maybe gets their help sometimes or maybe Kara ends up in the future for an episode or two or more.

And as for him just being the boyfriend, I don't see how else they could work him in. The show can't turn into the Mon-El and Supergirl show. It has to keep its focus on her, and Mon-El can't go back to being the boyfriend that just gets thrown in the wall.

And as for how he's grown, that's definitely not something we'll see just yet. But we know he's learned how to fight and incompacitate people without killing them. He can read the Legion language, learned Saturnian, seems to know that ship rather well.

He's keeping a lot of secrets and I think, given the choice, he would have kept the ones he did reveal to himself. He's there for a reason and there's a reason for everything he's done since he's been back. Him sneaking out to get the power device and get back to the ship was mission oriented secret keeping Mon-El. He probably could have asked, but he didn't, so there's reasons. I'm sure his own powers and his friends powers are only part of the reason. To me he seems invested and I'm already in it for the Legion plot. I'd love for them to come back when it's all over. Or maybe, if the rumors that Supergirl dies at the end, maybe they stick around and help out. They could certainly return him home or maybe the Legion could remain in the 21st and go on missions that would allow Mon-El to come back, but not as a regular.

Idk. It's only my opinion. I'd personally like to see maybe characters from other universes, but different versions start to emerge on her earth. What I want is a Legion show with the Legion, but I doubt I'll get it.

Why I think Mon-El belongs in the 31st century.

If what I’m hearing is true, Mon-El is pretty powerful and if they keep the comic book canon side effect of the cure for his lead allergy, he’s able to keep his powers no matter what sun he’s under.

I’d hate the idea of a character that’s actually super powerful and is regulated to nothing more a side character and the heroine’s boyfriend. Kara’s biggest issue is accepting help. It’s not that she needs it, she doesn’t. But, just because you don’t need doesn’t mean you can’t accept it. I don’t want to keep going through seasons with him trying to be her partner and her keep claiming she doesn’t need the help.

I don’t feel like Mon-El would be content just hanging around the DEO while Kara goes out being Supergirl. You’d essentially be adding him as the secondary star and it wouldn’t be about Supergirl. It’d be Valor and Supergirl.

I think when it’s all over, he should go back to the 31st and continue working with the Legion. He can always come back or we could even have a special episode where she goes to them.
