okay imma...
I haven't read ASOIAF, and i only watched a couple seasons of GOT because my partner at the time wanted to watch the last season together. BUT, GRRM is very public in his opinion on how good his farts smell, which is truly the most nauseating trait any creative can have. I don't love GOT, i absorbed enough of it to know I don't like it. Which is a thing you are allowed to do as a person. You are not obligated to keep consuming art you don't enjoy just so your opinion is valid to people who have made their permanent personality a single media franchise. I abhor sexual violence being used as flippantly as GRRM uses it in plots. I don't like worlds with no actual heroes, only opposing shades of dark grey. The ecology of Westeros and Essos is fucked. The mishmash of technology is fucked, as is the pretty broadly estimated european, mediterranian and nomadic cultures that have been amalgamated. That's all FINE, if the author's intent is "Fuck it, its fantasy, it makes sense because it makes sense. Don't think about it it doesn't matter" But it does matter, its stated like, episode 2 that the turning of time matters. Winter is Coming and its going to FUCK Westeros. and thats BEFORE considering the Other's, thats just, WINTER sucks. but we aren't shown, we are told. The effect winter has on the world is given to us by people going winter is bad. Maybe in the text GRRM explains more, but a lot of people with a lot of receipts seem to indicate he does not. If you have some evidence to the contrary and would like to intelligently engage in defense of something you like please do. But i will say if tumblr user johnsnowdaddy1120 reblogs me and says "No theses books are bible and GRRM is god." as a whole thought I'm not gonna be swayed. You can like ASOIAF. They can also be flawed, and GRRM can be full of shit sometimes. The thing you love doesn't have to be perfect. If people are misrepresenting it, speak up, but don't just say "No." I'd love to see some people finding all the passages that show we're wrong. I'd love to have a discussion. I'd love to calmly disagree. I understand that a lot of people like brutal political realism. I don't, but that doesn't make the people that can healthily engage with things that make me uncomfortable are bad people.
I don't like realism. I love escapism and so ASOIAF has little for me. if its your bag, cool, if you have some evidence that shows how GRRM has taken care in some of the books or novellas or whatever to ground the speculative parts of his world in a way that supports his stance of realism, I would love to see that. I love learning. with the information if have ASOIAF/GOT is good, brutalist fantasy. I do not think it stands as a good example of realism because the dark realism is at opposition of the speculative and fantastical elements of the setting. that's my opinion based on a good hundred hours of watch time and of cultural osmosis.
Someone over on Discord asked, "I'm morbidly curious: How BAD is A Song of Ice and Fire in terms of the authenticity George claims it to be?"
My reply was straightforward:
The long and the short of it is that ASOIAF is basically a vehicle for GRRM to present both his rape fetish and his Hobbesian view on human nature and has less historical accuracy than Frozen or most other Disney movies.
That's actually a good way to think of it, now that I've said it--he's Family Unfriendly, they're Family Friendly, but both have the same relationship with History: just Pure Aesthetic with no consideration for how the worldbuilding would work.

Tumblr media
caleb likes to think heā€™s in control of everything that happens around him. heā€™s always been pretty good at controlling his emotions and schooling his expressions and he tries not to overreact.
ā€Øthatā€™s the problem with her, she throws him off balance in the best and worst ways and it leaves him feeling so unsettled.
the thing about college, itā€™s supposed to be the best years of your life and he doesnā€™t know if he agrees or disagrees with that. if he really thinks about it, itā€™s bullshit but he knows why he feels that way.
he keeps himself composed most days, he has no reason to act out of character but this is something new to him.
caleb wasnā€™t naive enough to think this would never happen, he just always thought heā€™d be able to handle it well but he cannot. his hands feel clammy and his hot around his neck. is this even normal? he doesnā€™t fucking know.
he wants to lie and say heā€™s completely normal about her having other guy friends but heā€™s definitely not. his skin crawls whenever they touch her shoulder, grab at her wrists even if itā€™s completely platonic and innocent.
ā€Øhe especially hates when they lean in to close to talk to her when theyā€™re at a party and the music is too loud. those are the nights caleb avoids alcohol like it personally offended him.
he cannot trust himself to be sober in these situations, he doesnā€™t want to imagine what heā€™d do with his evol even if the thought sends a thrill through him. he knows he has a problem, heā€™s just not going to deal with it.
not in a healthy way at least.
ā€œcaleb?ā€
he snaps out his thoughts, smiling down at where sheā€™s laying on the floor in his dorm room. sheā€™s supposed to be studying but sheā€™s distracted and he shouldnā€™t enable her but he always does. sheā€™s just too pretty, she has a face you cannot say no to and youā€™d be insane to disagree.
ā€Øheā€™d like someone to disagree, that would be a fun day for him and a very unfortunate one for them.
ā€œiā€™m listeningā€ he lies. if he had been, he wouldā€™ve heard what she asked him and understand why sheā€™s being all shy right now.
ā€œwait.. what?ā€ he sits up, looking at her properly. he definitely has a problem if heā€™s thinking about her so much and sheā€™s right next to him.
ā€œ.. itā€™s stupidā€ she frowns
ā€œitā€™s notā€ he reassures. he means it sincerely because he is willing to do whatever she wants. he hopes she doesnā€™t know that.
ā€œi just .. i havenā€™t had my first kiss yet and i know some people think itā€™s a big deal and maybe it is but how will i know?ā€ she looks up at him and she looks so upset by this so he tries not to panic.
ā€Øwas she seeing someone? did she like someone and thatā€™s why she was thinking about kissing?
caleb could tell her itā€™s too early to worry about that and maybe she could just focus on college but that would be selfish of him. so selfish.
ā€œi could teach youā€ he says and itā€™s out before his brain can even process any of that shit but itā€™s too late now because her eyes widen and she sits up so fast.
ā€œwhat?ā€ she asks because even he canā€™t believe what he just said.
ā€œi just mean if youā€™re that curiousā€ he smiles, playing it cool.
ā€œyouā€™d do that for me?ā€ she stands now, moving to sit on his bed right in front of him and he will kill his roommate if the fucker comes back now.
ā€œyou know i wouldā€ he shrugs like itā€™s nothing even though his heart his beating so fast.
and thatā€™s the thing about control, he always believed he was in control of everything in his life but the moment their lips touch, he feels his entire world shift and he doesnā€™t know if heā€™s breathing but she trusts him.
he has his hands on the side of her face before he can stop himself and she gasps softly into the kiss that he canā€™t help but lightly bite her bottom lip. she likes that, or so it seems because she doesnā€™t push him away.
her lips taste like the peach flavoured lipgloss she likes to wear and her skin is soft beneath his fingertips.
ā€œis this okay?ā€ he asks, running his thumb across her lower lip. sheā€™s so beautiful, it hurts.
ā€œyesā€¦ā€ she nods, ā€œā€¦ can we do more?ā€
ā€œmore?ā€ he tries not to show how excited that makes him.
ā€œwith tongueā€ she whispers
he doesnā€™t need to be told twice and her moan makes it hard to focus on anything other than her lips against his and how hard he suddenly is.
he slips his tongue into her mouth and she learns pretty quickly, he hasnā€™t even kissed anyone either but heā€™s seen enough videos and heā€™s always been a pretty fast learner himself and he would be damned if she had this experience with anyone that wasnā€™t him.
she moves closer, her arms around his neck and he canā€™t pull her onto his lap. if heā€™s being honest, heā€™s been hard since she said yes to the kiss but he would never want to overwhelm her. her first kiss is special because itā€™s them, he wouldnā€™t rush this.
ā€Øthat is something he can control.
ā€œdoes that feel good?ā€ he asks because her comfort is the most important thing to him.
ā€œyesā€ she sounds less shy now, more like herself and sheā€™s smiling so sweetly he canā€™t help but lean back in and this time she takes the lead and he likes how she lightly pulls at his hair. he didnā€™t know heā€™d be into that but heā€™s learning a lot about himself since being in college.
she climbs onto his lap on her own and if she feels how hard he is, she doesnā€™t comment on it which he appreciates. sheā€™s always been considerate and just so perfect he thinks he might combust.
ā€œput your hands .. on my waistā€ she tells him and he nods, as if heā€™s in some sort of trance now.
heā€™s not embarrassed about the grinding or the fact that he cums in his pants 10 minutes later. heā€™s still a fucking virgin and she doesnā€™t seem to care because she moans loud enough for him that he knows everyone down the hall heard her and only a small part of him hates that, he knows when heā€™s alone heā€™s going to be pissed that they heard how pretty she sounds but right now he wants to keep kissing her.

Congrats on finishing See Something Say Something!! I checked the notification of the first AO3 email sent out and you initially planned on five chapters.
Would you say that the ending changed considerably since you started in October? Or has that stayed the same?
thank you!
it stayed the same lol. while my fics getting wildly out of control and becoming way longer than i anticipated is pretty common, i'm pretty much never changing overarching plot when this happens. the story that i become interested in telling is typically the story then i end up telling
almost every story can be made shorter or longer. it's less about what happens and more about how that information is conveyed. things that really tend to affect writing length are perspective and breathing room
the shortest fic i have on ao3 that's not part of a series is You Were (Not) Meant For Me (posted 11 years ago, jesus T_T). the premise is that claudia was a witch who intended trained stiles to be a witch and she arranged his marriage to laura hale, the future hale alpha. this is a traditional pairing as talia's husband was also a witch married to talia in service of the pact. except claudia died before she could train stiles or tell him about the engagement. stiles starts learning magic after scott is turned. derek falls for stiles and feels like he's betraying his sister by loving him, betraying stiles by not being the alpha he deserves and not telling him about the arrangement claudia made, and hates himself the entire time, but not enough to stop himself
that's a 100k fic easy
it's 1,696 words
it's extremely limited perspective (derek's) and it's made up only of limited snapshots of moments with very little context. there's no seeing what's happening, only told, which i think would quickly grow boring if it was longer and if the real point of the story wasn't derek's self hatred and how he fails to deal with it. that's the part of the story that isn't told, really - derek does think explicitly that he hates himself, but we're also seeing it in the way he talks and thinks about himself and the people around him
by contrast we have survival is a talent, which is obviously my longest fic. we're over 500k and we've got quite a bit to go
perspective doesn't just refer to character pov, but audience pov - are you being told a story, or are you experiencing the story? this is also tied into breathing room. there's no wrong way, i've done both and will do both, but one certainly requires more words than the other in my experience
siat is told only through draco and harry's perspective, but it's all happening in real time. the audience is being taken along for this story. the thing is that that things in real life don't all come tumbling one after another, not all questions have immediate answers. when depicting character growth and a plot unfurling, i think it's really important to include breathing room to give the audience time to feel that growth and change. i'm stricter about this with siat than anything else i've written, probably sometimes to its detriment. i want you and the characters to have time to feel the effects of emotional revelations and plot hints. i want you to have the time to question and wonder about things the same way the characters do
one time a friend criticized the good place for including the portion where they were alive again on earth because it wasn't as interesting as being in hell, but i disagree. we needed that breathing room both to live with the effects of character growth of going through hell and to have time for the effects of their actions on the plot to settle before they moved forward again. i stopped watching agents of shield because we weren't given enough breathing room - there was never a chance to see the characters not in crisis, the world was always ending, ect. the alchemyst book series has the first like 3 books taking place over a day and a half. i got tired of it after that. there's no breathing room
a story where i gave up on the concept of breathing room was build your wings on the way down. i liked that fic, but i wanted it finished, and to do it with i think optimal pacing would have made it twice as long as it was. so i said screw it, avalanche time, everything is happening all at once right now. there's very little breathing room there, which i think doesn't work too terribly in part because everything is so urgent and everyone is stressed so not being able to catch you breath sort of fits
See Something Say Something did not need to be 215k, although i'm not at all complaining. i feel very happy with how i told this story. but the basic premise - sam getting his powers early, getting involved in the large hunter world secretly from his family, and dean feeling misplaced and worried about how much sam needs/wants him - could have been told a hundred different ways and all would have pulled it off, so to speak
i considered doing the the entire fic from dean's pov (as a sam girl i love his pov because all he thinks about is sam and he's so insane about it) which would have effectively cut out basically the first five chapters. i thought exploring the slow realization of what's going on purely from dean's pov, with the audience having not insight would have been really interesting, just like what I did in dumb luck or good ghost with dean slowly figuring out that sam didn't die in the crash. another thing is the inclusion of all the side characters which i did to make the world feel rich and real, but we didn't need all these outsider povs to get the basic point across. very rarely is something vital being conveyed by an outsider pov, but it reinforced and adds to the main characters. i also initially didn't have wincest, which obviously added a ton of words. i loved exploring dean's self hatred and fear and sam's obliviousness, but bringing them to a place of ignorance to acceptance to happiness is a lot longer of a journey than just dealing with dean's propriety love as an unhinged co-dependent older brother. again, i'm sticking by all these choices, i made them because i thought it was the best way to the tell the story i was most interesting in telling, but my point is that you didn't need them to tell this particular story
it was also how i told the story. we spend a lot of time wallowing in character's emotions, especially dean's and sam's, but the others as well. part of this fic is convincing you that these two brothers should fuck, actually, and doing that effectively is going to take some time, especially at this point in their lives when things are pretty normal. comparatively, fucking your brother after starting the apocalypse is pretty small potatoes. i wanted you to understand these people, to feel what they were feeling, to not feel that it was inconceivable that jess would be willing to share her boyfriend with his brother, to buy all their relationships with each other in a way that isn't purely based on convenience
part of the reason i wrote dumb luck or good ghost before see something say something was that i felt i needed a firmer grasp on who the characters are before getting into who they were and who they could be - especially john, who i feel is exceptionally difficult to write without over excusing his actions or over villainizing them. the reason john doesn't get a single pov in see something say something is that while he's a motivating and underlying factor in much of the story, the story isn't about him. it's about the effect he has on those around him, and i didn't want to sully the pureness of that effect by introducing his internal dialogue, regardless of how persecutionary or absolving it would be. it's just not about him. it's how he responds to others and how they respond to him in turn
anyway! this is another example of something ending up longer than expected, but yeah. the plot of see something say something didn't change much from posting of the first chapter and my stories rarely do - i have plot points in siat that have been there since i posted the first chapter that are still relevant and happening. "harry and draco just. cut dumbledore's fucking hand off" my beloved

Another BP/HH/Gen answer dump as usual starting with BP and then moving into the other two \o/
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
All demons age about the same rate as humans (although with earlier milestones as babies) UNTIL they hit their 30s-40s after which aging slows down drastically šŸ™‚ā€ā†•ļø
Tumblr media
Izm chasing you down to get .D back like
Tumblr media Tumblr media
šŸ¤” You guys sometimes really make me think about things I don't often have to think about LOL. I'm just gonna do the gang this time so off the top of my head:
Izm and .D are often eating sushi in my drawings and since I'm pretty sure Izm is mainly the one buying, sushi is his fave. He'll eat any type but he prefers the raw fish ones.
Whilst .D also likes sushi, it's not his fave dish. His fave dish is pasta in a red sauce (like Sugo or Arrabiata) for some reason. Nostalgia maybe?
Zeke is a meat and potatoes kind of guy, so, a nice juicy sirloin with mushroom sauce and a side of roast potatoes and veggies. (BP!Zeke is similar but he really likes pork/bacon particularly, so a pork roast for him probably).
Wei Ren's comfort foods are chicken congee, and seafood steamboat/hot pot.
Marcus' fave is his mom's chicken casserole.
Tumblr media
Oh I'm glad (and thank you very much)! I hope you get lots of inspiration and can create a lot of things :D
Hm, that's a good question! I think, for doodling purposes, my fave is Rire mainly because Rire always looks more or less completed in black and white. My other two faves are .D and Izm - .D is a good exercise in subtle expressions whereas Izm is the complete opposite (esp with BP!Izm with that mouth).
Tumblr media
Yes. I mean, I'd prefer you be at least 15 for those two things only cos if i had to age rate them they could be considered M or MA15+.
Tumblr media
Hullo! The short answer is that there are also "not normal" skin tones, it depends on the demon species :)
Tumblr media
The rest of society is pretty standard so yes there are charlatans in the world of BP lol. HOWEVER, no one would pretend to be a BP for three distinct reasons:
You need to be sanctioned to be a BP (ie they have abilities that normal people do not, like being able to perform exorcisms.)
There is no profit to be had as BPs generally don't get paid (all their living expenses are generally covered by their religion's HQ).
It's dangerous work. You'd have better luck being a bank robber.
Tumblr media
Desmond is def a club music kind of guy XD EDMs, techno, trance, hardstyle, house, whatever - the kind of stuff you jump energetically up and down to at a club/concert/rave, he'll listen to it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Not yet for BP (soon...šŸ™šŸ»). HH wasn't really a comic series so much as a bunch of somewhat random one shots I did for fun lol.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
^ you guys :d
Tumblr media
I don't put my pronouns anywhere partly because it is lowkey amusing for me to see how people perceive me online. It doesn't really matter to me, so go with your best guess lol.
Tumblr media
You would be surprised at how much time those two hobbies can take up outside of work |D; I also like doing puzzle games (like Quordle etc), coding, going for walks/bike riding, making slightly odd food combos in normal recipes and freaking out my friends on Discord with them, and watching horror/disaster films and playthroughs of horror games.
Tumblr media
Maybe one day I would, but not at this particular time, sorry!
Tumblr media
Thanks for asking as this is a bit of a grey type area! Personally, I think that as long as this is purely for your own use and you aren't going to on-sell it in any way...then it should be ok. I'm going to categorise something like this as somewhat similar to say...people printing out my art to stick to their wall type thing. Of course, if you ended up buying a bunch and then thought oh i have so many extra I'll sell them to whoever wants them - that would be a no no.
Tumblr media
In what capacity lol if there's something I've learned from real life it's never agree or disagree to anything without knowing specifics. Eg if you would like to use my art as a PFP on tumblr then you can if you credit it, but if you want to use my art as a face claim for your own charac then i would have to say no, etc.
Tumblr media
That makes two of us as i am not familiar with the twisted wonderland universe :P
.D: Diasomnia
Izm: Pomefiore
Wei Ren: Ignihyde
Zeke: Savanaclaw
Marcus: Diasomnia
Tumblr media
I never really specified one so my friends and I have been calling it the fictional city of Hedone lol.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I haven't given up on HH, i just dont draw it nearly as much since i'm focussing on developing BP :) Anyway HH wasn't seriously planned to be a comic or anything (though technically...it does have a very loose storyline that I've alluded to in some drawings |D ) so it's something I can just jump back into and doodle whenever i feel like.
Tumblr media
This was from a while back
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
It's pretty straightforward HH is a slice of life 'verse where my main characs are in an all boy's boarding school and Rire is the headmaster. It focuses on the boys shenanigans though so if you specifically like Rire you will be disappointed as he's barely in it.
Tumblr media
I cut off this post cos I dont think the stuff in it should be shared with other random people even though anon is on anon. If this is you anon i hope you are doing well and i would genuinely encourage you to talk to someone about certain things (like a therapist maybe).

I forgot about her saying that, this is a really interesting point. I do disagree though, Laudna taking on Delilah imagery initially did feel like signposting about how she was leaning to heavily on her and accepting her power and such, but now she's locked away it feels different. She's acknowledging her darkness like she has from the beginning with "fun scary", and taking ownership of it. Her death and relationship with Delilah is no longer a secret told by a fire, but a part of who she is that can be shared with the world.
I agree her lashing out at Orym was a regression, but character arcs don't have to be linear. In fact, imo they feel a lot more realistic and interesting when they aren't. It's been said before that Laudna and Delilah is akin to an addiction, and that isn't something that disappears forever. There are steps forward and back, and a lot more back in stressful contexts like the end of the world lmao. It was selfish and pretty irrational to freak out about the sword, but no one makes entirely rational decisions especially when influenced by an evil sorcerer that lives in their brain. When she scurried away from the party after the Ashton and shard fiasco, that was also an example of her regressing. She returned to her days of isolation where Delilah was her only confidant.
Her refusing the offer from the Raven Queen to me felt like saying yeah I'm not perfect, I'm undead, I've seen and done some shit. But I've found my home with these people and I'm going to keep it. From my interpretation, that feels like she's really reaching the point of letting go of her trauma and truly settling into life.
This kind of extends to a lot of BH, they don't have lofty aspirations or big dreams, for the most part they just want a peaceful home. Laudna just wants that cottage with Imogen and that doesn't require her to be "alive" again.
now that c3 is ending, im looking back and figuring out laudna's arc as a whole. and if i'm remembering it correctly, marisha mentioned that she wanted to create a character that has gotten over and made peace with her trauma, and yet the narrative and the foundations say otherwise, and laudna pretty much became the complete opposite: a character whose most of her actions are so informed by it.
she kinda really regressed from that intention, hasn't she?
not saying it's not a valid type of character development. or that there was supposed to be only ever one specific trauma she can or cannot be over or not.
but it's fascinating in a way to remember that she started off serenely telling her death to orym, and stating that she could smile so happily because "the worst thing that could happen has already happened"...
...to lashing out at orym because of him picking up a sword that had killed her previously.
side tangent, but laudna and orym's dynamic are lowkey one of the more fascinating dynamics out of bell's hells. they may not be the closest, but i definitely find them more interesting than even laudna's closer relationships.
anyway, laudna's story was then concluded with essek's help. and delilah's locked inside laudna for good, and can't even communicate or talk to laudna. officially exiled to the back of laudna's mind, shackled within the valleys of her chest above her heart.
delilah is still in there.
and it feels like a mirror to how laudna started. everything's all fine and dandy, actually! she'll never have problems again.
and so there's that contradiction again. delilah has no power over laudna anymore. and yet, laudna... still kinda defines herself with delilah, from her clothes to the fact that she still can get power from delilah. just like how laudna started the campaign defining herself as the obviously dead woman.
and it makes me question if she has actually ever even changed, or was just broken down to her bare essence for everyone to figure out how she actually works, and rebuild again with some minor upgrades, with no substantial improvement. it feels like she's still stuck, even with the new experiences and connections.
the raven queen said it's possible for her to be alive again. and yet, laudna seemed like she might not even want it.
maybe because she actually has to change. move past the stage of death she has now defined herself in. to actually grow as a person. change, not only with the people she surrounds herself with, but with laudna herself.
would she, though?

putting this post underwater not because I disagree with it but because I wanted to talk about my own comic and it felt self centered to go off in a reblog, and I couldn't fit it all into the tags lol
my comic Unicorn Hunted is about haelan being hunted and persecuted for being transgender. that's what it's about. BUT it's under the allegory of him being under a unicorn curse. he exists between two worlds, half man half unicorn, but he insists he is still human, he's still a man. some characters hate him because he's a man who killed a unicorn, (sorry but Gwendolyn is meant to represent a radfem) and some characters just fully see him as a unicorn and want to use him (misgendering and/or fetishizing). some characters are so intensely jealous of him that they lash out in violence. these are things I've experienced as a trans man. but I didn't want to make a fantasy story about a man experiencing run of the mill transphobia because I love magic and fantasy
I feel like for people to understand the hurt and the absurdity of transphobia, you might need to reframe it sometimes. readers might read about Gwen being enamored and worshipping of women to the point of violence against haelan and think "hell yeah girl power" but if i reframe it as her worshipping unicorns to the point of violence against haelan, readers instead correctly thought "oh my god, she's fucking crazy!"
I can more accurately portray how dysphoria feels to cis people when haelan is not dysphoric about his chest, his hips, but instead he has to worry about hiding a horn, a tail, long animal ears. these things make him stand out, they go against his very identity as a human, and he never knows who's able to see them and recognize what they mean.
and also I don't think fantasy stories need to have the same real world bigotries, because they're so arbitrary. there's no reason why a society needs to be transphobic, because it's all made up. I think transphobia does exist in unicorn hunted but to a lesser extent. haelan and sybil do hide the fact that they're both trans but its more because they just want to be recognized for who they are, not because they fear backlash. and transphobia is so easy to mark a villain. you make any character say "ugh, you're really a woman?!" and you instantly know that character is a jackass
ok thanks for listening to me yap about my comic hehe

Okay, let's talk about the coming out scene, because people are saying Taash was the one out of line.
Shathann is a sympathetic character. That does not make her a good person. She saved her child from a life of servitude by leaving the country she loved and tried to preserve that culture in her child. I respect that. I also wish there was a way to encourage Taash to embrace both sides of their culture.
BUT.
From the moment we meet her, Shathann criticizes literally everything her child does. Taash runs an errand for her, and Shathann criticizes their posture, pronunciation, gender presentation, AND sexuality, completely unprovoked, yes, in one fucking conversation. Shathann invites Taash over for dinner and then makes Taash cook that fucking dinner. And this has happened before, as stated in the dialogue. Taash is so affected by this behavior and probably worse they have endured their entire life that they say "you don't get to tell me who I am" at a simple question about their heritage, out of pure instinct.
Now to the actual scene.
Taash invites their mother to their new home and prepares a dinner for her, which Shathann immediately criticizes and has Taash make vegetables to go with. Can you imagine inviting someone into your home for dinner you prepare only for them to shit on it and ask you to cook more. And Taash does so, with a grunt. I'd be like bitch you're in my house, I cooked, eat. But they just do it.
Then they say it. "Im nonbinary." Shathann asks what that means, completely fair, and Taash explains that it means they're not a man or a woman.
Shathann asks if this is because she criticizes their gender presentation. Now listen. I have a parent who thinks nearly everything "wrong" with me is a reaction to their actions. It pisses me off. So Taash is getting reasonably frustrated, and insists that's not why. VALID. They were asked a question and they answered.
Let's talk about the Qun and gender identity. Yes they have a word for people who identify as a different gender than they were assigned. But this is implied to apply to trans men and women, not nonbinary people, so Shathann is asking Taash if they "just" identify as a man, because that's something Shathann can better understand, something more convenient for her to process. Sort of like when trans people come out to someone and are asked if they're "just gay."
No. And Taash says no. They have explained who they are. If Shathann was just having a hard time processing it that would be one thing, but she basically talked over Taash and tried to suggest that they were just a man, which they are not. Taash is being vulnerable. Taash doesn't even HAVE to tell Shathann this, but they want to, they think she deserves to know.
And what Taash says next is not purely to do with this one conversation, as explicit in the text. "why am I never enough for you." Never. Not now. We have seen Shathann critique Taash in every scene they share, and that's with a whole other person present who is not in the family. We don't know what happens in private. Shathann signed her child up for a fucking war without even talking to them about it. What Taash says is the build up of years of being talked over and criticized for everything they do, provoked by offering themselves to that person in a vulnerable position only to be talked over and criticized more.
"Why am I never enough for you."
And Shathann does not answer. She doesnt say "of course you are." Even if she disagreed with Taash's identity, which would be shitty, she could still affirm that they are enough for her. She doesn't.
She fucking leaves.
Maybe she thinks that's what Taash wants. Maybe not. But if someone asks you something like that, you affirm them. You say they are enough. Especially if they're your fucking child. But no, this conversation is too inconvenient for Shathann, she's not getting her way like she did when she signed Taash up for a war without their consent, so she just leaves. She could've said "I don't understand, but I love you." She couldve said anything. But she just left.
I'm sad she died. Im glad she accepted her child in the end. But no, Taash was not in any way out of line in this conversation.
Shathann was.

Expiation (Chapter 5) - a Shigaraki x f!Reader fic
Even after slaying the High Kingdom's greatest enemy and sparing its people from a terrible fate, Shigaraki Tomura's past crimes make him an outcast in the castle. Still, someone has to attend to him, and that someone is you -- and unlike the maids who came before you, you're not afraid to ask a question. (cross-posted to Ao3)

Chapter 5
You never knew, but should have guessed, that the High Kingdomā€™s march to war will not include everyone in it. Half the army will stay to guard the kingdom itself, as well as half the kingā€™s council, while the king and the other half lead the army in pursuit of Warlord Kai. There appears to be no rhyme or reason to which of the councilors leave and which stay, except in one particular case: Sir Tomuraā€™s. No one trusts Sir Tomura to guard the kingdom, and the White Death will be much needed on the battlefield ā€“ cursed wound, cursed weapons, and all.
Wound, weapons, and armor. You promised Mei youā€™d recommend her to Sir Tomura when it became time to repair his breastplate, but heā€™s so recalcitrant about having it repaired at all that you finally just threaten to take it to Mei yourself. Sir Tomura glares at you with his arms crossed over his chest, parked firmly between you and the armor stand. ā€œIf you think Iā€™m going to let you steal my armor, youā€™ve lost your mind.ā€
ā€œAs youā€™ve lost yours, if you think Iā€™ll send my Lord into battle unprotected,ā€ you retort. Youā€™ve grown more comfortable disagreeing with Sir Tomura when necessary, and while you refrain from commenting on his stubbornness most of the time, you wonā€™t back down where his physical safety is concerned. ā€œYou are already vulnerable there. If you leave your breastplate unmended, it will tell your opponents exactly where to strike.ā€
ā€œI doubt anyone will be able to break through my guard, and even if they could, my death would please the world more than my life,ā€ Sir Tomura says. That crooked, mocking smile youā€™ve grown to hate crosses his face again. ā€œMy redemption, such as it is, can be found only in death. My life does not matter to them.ā€
ā€œIt matters to me,ā€ you say, and Sir Tomuraā€™s terrible smile fades. ā€œAnd to others as well.ā€
The old king is particularly concerned with Sir Tomura, and Hakamada has taken some odd degree of interest. The herald, too, spends some portion of most days pestering Sir Tomura to tell the tale of how he defeated the Enemy ā€“ something he would not do if he was as terrified as the rest. King Izuku is uncomfortable with Sir Tomuraā€™s presence, to be sure, but he cares that Sir Tomura is treated fairly. On the servantsā€™ side, thereā€™s you and Mei, and no one else. Meiā€™s concern is for his armor. Yours is for him.
Today, your concern and Meiā€™s overlap completely, and you suspected Sir Tomura would refuse outright ā€“ so you called for backup ahead of time. Before Sir Tomura can argue with you any further, Mei gives a perfunctory knock on the door and strides in as though she owns the place. Sir Tomura looks surprised. ā€œWho are you?ā€
ā€œMei, the greatest blacksmith in the land.ā€ No one has ever chastised Mei for her humility. ā€œNo damage is too great for me to repair. Iā€™ll have that breastplate fixed better than new.ā€
ā€œIs that so?ā€ Sir Tomura gives you a look. You cringe. ā€œYour services are not needed. It cannot be repaired, and even if it could ā€“ā€
ā€œThatā€™s just foolish,ā€ Mei says. She walks fearlessly up to Sir Tomura, who towers over her, and crowds him until he shifts aside, his incredulity growing with every passing second. ā€œA cursed weapon caused this damage?ā€
ā€œAye.ā€
Mei inspects the armor for a moment. ā€œTwo days.ā€
ā€œExcuse me?ā€
ā€œItā€™ll be done in two days.ā€ Mei is already lifting the breastplate from the armor stand. Sir Tomura looks as though he wants to prevent her, but has no idea how ā€“ it reminds you of watching Sir Ejirou try to rescue a hissing, spitting tomcat stuck in a tree. ā€œThe suit will be done in five. It needs fixing, too.ā€
ā€œAnd what else do you suggest I fix,ā€ Sir Tomura says, painfully sarcastic. ā€œDo you intend to re-forge my horse?ā€
ā€œIt needs new shoes,ā€ Mei says. Sarcasm doesnā€™t work on Mei. Few things do. ā€œAnything else?ā€
ā€œNo.ā€
Mei crooks her thumb at you. ā€œHow about for her?ā€
You donā€™t need armor. You arenā€™t fighting. You arenā€™t even going ā€“ are you? You look at Sir Tomura, whoā€™s gone from glaring at you to pointedly avoiding your gaze. ā€œMy Lord?ā€
ā€œChainmail,ā€ Sir Tomura says to Mei, who nods. ā€œThe lightest you can manage, and whatever else thatā€™s lightweight. How fast can that be done?ā€
ā€œFive days,ā€ Mei says again. ā€œIā€™ll work on nothing else.ā€
You donā€™t think thatā€™s a good idea ā€“ you know the smiths are assigned quotas of arrowheads and ax-blades ā€“ but itā€™s not your place to comment. What is your place to comment on is Sir Tomura, and the fact that heā€™s very obviously concealing something from you. Before you can say a word, Mei seizes your arm and hauls you into service. ā€œHelp me carry this,ā€ she says, already lifting the armor stand. ā€œMany thanks for your patronage. You wonā€™t be disappointed.ā€
You get one last glimpse of Sir Tomura before Meiā€™s rapid pace forces you to speed up, lest you drop your side of the armor stand. His voice follows you out the door. ā€œI regret this already.ā€
So do you, if youā€™re being honest. Youā€™ve never made a situation less stressful by adding Mei to it, and the question of just why you need chainmail is occupying all your thoughts. In her corner of the smithy, Mei makes you help her pry the armor off the armor stand, and once itā€™s off, she throws all of it into a vat full of a filmy grey solution that looks like nothing so much as dishwater. ā€œWhat is that?ā€
ā€œIt cleanses the armor, and neutralizes any residual magic,ā€ Mei announces. You stare in horror. ā€œWhat? I know what Iā€™m doing.ā€
ā€œI donā€™t think Sir Tomura wants his spells stripped from his armor.ā€
ā€œHis armorā€™s got no spells left. All of them went into blocking that strike,ā€ Mei says. ā€œI could tell when I touched it. Only shreds remain, and those must be removed before I can add new spells. Most magicians donā€™t know how to do it themselves. Thatā€™s probably why he thinks it canā€™t be repaired.ā€
Youā€™re used to taking Sir Tomuraā€™s word as truth on matters of magic, and itā€™s true that heā€™s often right ā€“ but Mei knows her craft, and you trust her with it. She sticks both hands in the vat, arranging the armor so all of it soaks evenly, then turns to you. ā€œAre you going to give me your measurements, or do I have to take them myself?ā€
You give them, only for Mei to come and take them anyway. It exasperates you. ā€œWhy bother asking, then?ā€
ā€œSome noble ladies lie about their measurements,ā€ Mei says as she wraps a knotted string around your waist. ā€œItā€™s not wise to lie about your chest when youā€™re being fitted for armor.ā€
Your face heats up. ā€œI donā€™t care about that. And Iā€™m not a noble lady.ā€
ā€œYou speak to the White Death like one.ā€
ā€œSo do you,ā€ you protest.
ā€œThatā€™s how I speak to everyone,ā€ Mei says. You suppose thatā€™s true. When it comes to matters of arms and armor, Mei offers no varnishing of her opinions to anyone, noble or otherwise. ā€œYou would never speak to another knight or noble the way you speak to the White Death.ā€
ā€œBecause he ordered me to,ā€ you say. Mei raises an eyebrow. ā€œSir Tomura ordered me to speak to him as I would speak to an equal.ā€
ā€œNobles order you to do things all the time.ā€ Mei yanks the knotted string tight enough around your chest to make you gasp. ā€œThat doesnā€™t mean you do them all.ā€
Nobles and knights give nonsensical orders not infrequently ā€“ if theyā€™re drunk, if theyā€™re showing off, if theyā€™re in an expansive frame of mind. They also give inappropriate orders, ones you feel no shame at all about refusing, and ones you warn the other servants about so they know what might be coming their way. Sir Tomuraā€™s orders are neither nonsensical nor inappropriate, at least not to you. It hasnā€™t struck you as strange at all to follow them.
And following them isnā€™t incompatible with arguing with him, you donā€™t think. After all, he never told you not to.
Mei finishes measuring you, then evicts you from her corner of the smithy, and you try to remember the rest of your tasks for the day. The army will depart within the fortnight, and youā€™ve already confirmed that Sir Tomura will receive the same makeshift accommodations as any other knight on the campaign ā€“ a tent of his own, a cot, and a squire to serve him on the battlefield and off. But Sir Tomuraā€™s chosen no squire, nor has anyone sought him out. You know he prefers to do things himself, that he did so before, that he and his comrades kept no servants. Still, the idea of sending him off with no assistance alarms you. Perhaps if you find someone for him ā€“
ā€œNo,ā€ Neito says, when you corner him in the stables as heā€™s grooming Aizawaā€™s horse. ā€œAbsolutely not.ā€
ā€œNo other Lord is expected to fight alone,ā€ you say. ā€œSir Tomura ā€“ā€
ā€œIs the White Death, and he managed to humiliate Sir Katsuki without drawing his own sword. He does not need me.ā€
ā€œHe needs a squire,ā€ you insist. ā€œIf you would but speak with him, you might find him more agreeable.ā€
ā€œHe does not need me,ā€ Neito repeats. He gives you a sidelong, measured look. ā€œHeā€™ll have you.ā€
Thatā€™s the second time today someoneā€™s alluded to your presence on the campaign. Youā€™re beginning to think youā€™ve missed something. ā€œYou are mistaken. Iā€™m not supposed to ā€“ā€
ā€œBe here? Yes.ā€ Sir Tomuraā€™s voice rings out from behind you, and you jump. Neito takes two steps back in shock and trips over a bucket. ā€œThere is an errand you must accompany me on, today. Your ambush with the blacksmith merely delayed it.ā€
ā€œYes, my Lord.ā€ You help Neito to his feet, then hurry after Sir Tomura, rethinking your strategy. Perhaps Neito isnā€™t the right choice for Sir Tomuraā€™s squire. You still have a fortnight to find someone.
To your surprise, Sir Tomura leads you out of Castle Ultra, down the hill toward the pastures where the knightsā€™ and noblesā€™ horses spend their days. Perhaps he wants to visit his horse. You wait for him to explain the purpose of the errand, and why it requires your presence, but he remains silent long enough that you ask. ā€œMy Lord? Where are we going?ā€
ā€œYou must learn to ride.ā€
ā€œI know how to ride,ā€ you say.
ā€œOn what? A plough-horse still attached to the plough?ā€ Sir Tomura says it without scorn, but you feel the sting regardless. ā€œYou must learn to ride properly if you hope to keep up.ā€
To keep up with what? You look up at Sir Tomura and find him once again ignoring your gaze. ā€œMy Lord ā€“ Iā€™m not to accompany you on the campaign, am I?ā€
ā€œIf it were my choice, you would stay behind.ā€ Sir Tomura picks up the pace, and you do the same, nearly stumbling on the uneven ground. ā€œBut the council is displeased with the quality of the evidence provided by their spies. Once again, they turn to those with firsthand knowledge of the borderlands, and in practice ā€“ā€
ā€œMe.ā€ Your stomach drops fast enough to make you nauseous. ā€œMy Lord ā€“ā€
ā€œThe order came from King Izuku,ā€ Sir Tomura says. A sneer twists his mouth. ā€œSuch a good king, to endanger those who cannot fight in order to spare those who do.ā€
Of course you want the soldiers of the High Kingdom to be as prepared as possible for the battles they will face. Of course you owe everything to the High Kingdom for taking you in. The knowledge that this is the price you must pay for it sits firmly within you, and yet you still feel sick. ā€œWhen did you plan to tell me, my Lord?ā€
ā€œI assumed you knew.ā€
ā€œForgive my naĆÆvetĆ©.ā€ Your eyes are stinging.
ā€œNo,ā€ Sir Tomura says sharply. ā€œI misspoke. I hoped you knew, because I did not want to be the one to tell you. If I waited long enough, the King would have been forced to do it himself, and that damned look on your face would be his fault instead of mine.ā€
You must look terrible. ā€œIf my expression offends you ā€“ā€
ā€œBe silent,ā€ Sir Tomura snaps, and you subside. ā€œI will teach you what you need to know, beginning with this. If you wish to keep up with an army, you must learn to ride like a soldier.ā€
The keeper of the pastures must be expecting Sir Tomura; when the two of you arrive, heā€™s waiting for you with a pile of tack and a wooden practice horse. Koji speaks very little, and he stands by while Sir Tomura tersely instructs you on the proper way to saddle a horse. Once youā€™re able to repeat the instructions back to him, you move on to practicing on the wooden horse, and when youā€™ve saddled it five times without a mistake, Koji brings over a set of steps. Youā€™ve seen knights and ladies climb them before to mount their horses.
ā€œNo,ā€ Sir Tomura says. ā€œDo you think we have such luxuries on a military campaign? Youā€™ll learn from standing, as I did. Watch.ā€
You watch as Sir Tomura grasps the pommel of the saddle, plants one foot in the stirrup, and vaults himself into place astride the wooden horse. He makes it look easy, even if you see him grimace as the motion strains the fragile skin covering his cursed wound. Heā€™s still grimacing as he leans down to adjust the stirrups to the proper lengths. ā€œYou secured the saddle and girth properly. If you fail to do so and attempt to mount, youā€™ll fall off the other side, and I cannot promise that I will not laugh at you.ā€
ā€œIt would be hard to resist, and I wouldnā€™t mind,ā€ you say. Sir Tomura gives you an odd look. ā€œNot when you laugh so rarely as it is.ā€
Sir Tomura dismounts from the other side of the wooden horse, then comes around to yours. ā€œShow me what you observed.ā€
Youā€™re so concerned about the prospect of failing to make it to the saddle that you overexert yourself, and nearly launch yourself all the way over. Sir Tomura steadies you. ā€œDismount from this side and try again,ā€ he instructs. Dismounting is harder. You stumble, and he steadies you once again, interrupting you when you try to mumble an apology. ā€œApologizing will teach you nothing. Try again.ā€
You practice mounting and dismounting the wooden horse until your arms and legs are sore. Sir Tomura instructs you to remove the tack from the wooden horse and turns to Koji. ā€œTake her to the paddock. Iā€™ll return with Nomu.ā€
Nomu must be his horse. Youā€™ve never heard him speak its name. Koji ushers you along the edge of the pastures towards a training paddock, one which contains seven or eight horses of various colors. You look to Koji, puzzled, and after a long moment, he speaks. ā€œYou will choose from these.ā€
ā€œFrom whichever among them can stomach Nomu.ā€ Sir Tomuraā€™s horse moves with such silence that you didnā€™t notice his approach until his shadow fell across you. ā€œNomuā€™s presence, like mine, is difficult to bear.ā€
When you look up at Nomu, you understand. Heā€™s pale as death, pale as Sir Tomuraā€™s armor and his hair and the blade of his sword, and his body is laced with scars that show through his thin coat. His eyes have neither lashes nor irises nor lids; rather, they stare endlessly out, devoid of life or interest. Sir Tomura stares that way, sometimes. The only life you can see in Nomu is in the twitching of his ears, this way and that.
The rumors say that Sir Tomura feeds Nomu a diet of blood and flesh, but you smell no such thing on the horseā€™s breath. Seeing Nomu makes your skin crawl, and makes you sorry, all in the same moment. Sir Tomura looks down at you from his back. ā€œFrightened?ā€
ā€œNo, my Lord.ā€
ā€œYouā€™ll need a horse to match your temperament, then.ā€ Sir Tomura touches Nomuā€™s reins and steers him in a circle, addressing Koji as he does. ā€œInstruct the horses within to hold. Then open the gate, and stand aside.ā€
Koji complies, looking as though there is nothing heā€™d rather do less. You step aside as well. The horses within the paddock continue to mill about, registering the open gate without running for it. At least not at first. When Sir Tomura and Nomu jump the fence into the paddock from the far side, the horses panic as one. Two jump the fence of their own accord, while the rest rattle about, colliding with the railings and each other in an effort to escape. Nomu has done nothing; Sir Tomura has him in hand. But the horses react as though each and every one of them is in mortal danger.
Koji puts his hand to his mouth and whistles sharply. Three of the remaining horses break immediately towards the sound and the open gate, and when the others realize that an escape is available, they pile through it in a single, seething mass. You canā€™t imagine how Koji plans to contain them, but at his word, they flee into an adjacent paddock. Within the original one, only two horses remain. Thereā€™s Nomu, standing still, staring at nothing. And on the far side of the paddock, a mud-grey horse crops lazily at the grass.
Sir Tomura taps his heels against Nomuā€™s sides and guides him closer. Still, the grey horse fails to stir. Koji comes back, red-faced and out of breath, and Sir Tomura addresses him without looking his way. ā€œIs something wrong with this one?ā€
ā€œShe has always had an even temper.ā€ Kojiā€™s voice is barely a whisper. ā€œItā€™s a good quality in a mare.ā€
ā€œThen why hasnā€™t she been chosen as some ladyā€™s mount?ā€ Sir Tomura nudges Nomu closer still, and the grey horse looks up. It studies Nomu for a moment, then goes back to its meal. ā€œIt seems she would suit a magician who rides to war.ā€
ā€œMost prefer a flashier mount,ā€ Koji stammers. ā€œShe is plain.ā€
Sir Tomura swings down from Nomuā€™s back and leads Nomu closer by the reins, so close that Sir Tomura can lay a hand on the grey horseā€™s neck. She lifts her head at that, looks towards him. They make an odd trio there, the man and mount too monstrous to tolerate and the mare too plain to be chosen. After a long moment, Sir Tomura lifts his hand away. ā€œShe will serve,ā€ he says, and beckons to you. ā€œBring the saddle.ā€
Youā€™re anxious from the first, but the grey mare lives up to Kojiā€™s description. She shows a little mischief when you attempt to tighten the girth, but you know what to look for, and you wait until sheā€™s exhaled to tighten it. Then you haul yourself up into the saddle, on tired arms and with tired legs. Now you and Sir Tomura are seated side by side. Sir Tomura guides Nomu out of the corral with the lightest touch on the reins, and thereā€™s nothing for you to do but mimic and follow him.
The two of you ride in silence for some time, Nomu placid under Sir Tomuraā€™s control, the grey mare jittery under yours. ā€œLoosen your hold on the reins,ā€ Sir Tomura instructs. ā€œSheā€™s responding to your fear, not her own.ā€
You relax your fingers with an effort, and as Sir Tomura said, the grey mare settles down. ā€œWeā€™ll ride together each day until the campaign begins. Youā€™ll be familiar with the concept, if nothing else.ā€
Youā€™ve never heard of a knight training a servant to ride. There are other servants for that. ā€œMy Lord, I do not want to claim more than my share of your time. If someone else could ā€“ā€
ā€œWhy?ā€
Your insides twist with discomfort. ā€œItā€™s not right for a noble to teach a commoner.ā€
ā€œYes, because you are beneath me.ā€ Sir Tomuraā€™s voice drips with derision. ā€œMany soldiers, noble and common, have died at my hands. Believe me when I tell you that they all bleed the same color. There is no difference between us but what you pretend there to be.ā€
You have no idea how to respond. ā€œI will grant that the High Kingdom is less rigid in its hierarchy than others,ā€ Sir Tomura continues. ā€œIn some kingdoms, one must be of noble birth to be knighted, or to serve on the Kingā€™s council. Here, it seems deeds matter as much as blood ā€“ but those who commit great deeds see themselves as worthier than those who do not. There is not a kingdom in this world where that is untrue.ā€
ā€œI have heard that you visited many kingdoms,ā€ you say. Sir Tomura nods without looking your way. ā€œWhy?ā€
ā€œI was granted the power to destroy that which displeased me. I was displeased by a great many things.ā€ Sir Tomura ducks his head to avoid a low-hanging branch, then straightens up. ā€œOthers shared my ideals but lacked my strength, yet made up for my weaknesses in strengths of their own.ā€
Youā€™ve never heard him reference his old comrades before. You remain silent, hoping heā€™ll say more. ā€œWe visited many kingdoms in search of one where my comrades could live as they wished to. Where we met opposition, we destroyed it, and so was born the story of the White Death, bringer of ruin and symbol of fear.ā€
ā€œIs that all?ā€ The words fly from your mouth unbidden, and Sir Tomura looks at you at last. ā€œYou did not wish to conquer the world?ā€
ā€œAnd do what? Shape it in my own image?ā€ Sir Tomura shakes his head. ā€œYou cannot model a world on an empty vessel.ā€
Youā€™ve heard Sir Tomura call himself many things before. His many enemy-given epithets, his own mocking titles; on rare occasions, even his own name has left his scarred lips. Youā€™ve heard him call himself a monster, a villain, an abomination. But in all the months youā€™ve served him, heā€™s never described himself that way before.
And yet it suits. You thought on the day you met him that he looked lost, that whatever had driven him to carve a bloody path across the known world had left him for good. You remember noticing the emptiness of his gaze. An empty vessel. A vessel for what?
Sir Tomura looks away from you. He shifts in his saddle, grimacing, and grimacing worse as he ducks again to avoid another branch. You wonder if he regrets what he told you. Certainly he does not wish to say more on the subject. ā€œWhen we ride to war, you will be in danger,ā€ he says. ā€œThe same amount of danger as the rest of us will be as we travel through enemy territory. I can do nothing about that.ā€
ā€œOf course, my Lord.ā€ You see him grimace again, and you wonder if your words are so hateful to him ā€“ but then you see one hand leave the reins, twitch towards his chest. ā€œI do not expect you to.ā€
ā€œGood, because it is impossible.ā€ Sir Tomura looks ahead. ā€œI can, however, ensure that no additional danger comes to you.ā€
ā€œWhat do you mean?ā€ you ask. He gives you a frustrated look, as though you should know already. Itā€™s not often that heā€™s angry with you for asking a question. ā€œForgive me.ā€
ā€œItā€™s the warlord you fear. He will not lay a hand on you, and I will allow no plan to be made that places you within his reach.ā€ Sir Tomura taps his heels against Nomuā€™s sides, and the horse shifts into a trot. You do the same, or try to, and all your effort shifts from trying to catch up to trying to avoid biting your tongue in half. ā€œI protect my comrades when itā€™s in my power to do so. Killing an upstart alchemist is well within my abilities.ā€
You try to imagine that, imagine Sir Tomura drawing his sword to protect you. In the decade and more since you last saw Warlord Kai, heā€™s loomed large in your imagination, towering over Sir Tomura, whoā€™s always looked more mortal than monster to you. Could Sir Tomura defeat him? You pull the grey mare to a stop. You canā€™t speak while trotting, and you must speak. ā€œMy Lord, I donā€™t want you to risk your life.ā€
ā€œBecause my life matters to you.ā€ Sir Tomura guides Nomu into a half-turn to face you, and you nod. ā€œAs your life matters to me.ā€
You can only stare at him. You donā€™t know whether knights and nobles commonly express concern for the welfare of their servants, but whether they do or not, itā€™s the last thing you would ever expect Sir Tomura to say. You canā€™t imagine such words leaving the White Deathā€™s mouth. But even when Sir Tomura was the White Death and nothing more, he had comrades, friends. Someone told you that they once heard him laugh. Sir Tomuraā€™s comrades are gone, slain in the same battle he expected to die in. He is alone in Castle Ultra, alone in the High Kingdom ā€” save you. Youā€™re a poor replacement for his comrades. You canā€™t fight, you can barely ride, youā€™ve no powerful magic, and you cower in fear from the memory of a man upon whom the full force of the High Kingdomā€™s might is about to fall. You arenā€™t a person worthy of Sir Tomuraā€™s care. You simply hold the distinction of being the only one he has.
You donā€™t realize youā€™re staring until Sir Tomura snaps at you. ā€œIf you have some ridiculous response to that statement, spit it out. We still have much to do.ā€
The response that leaves your mouth is perhaps the wrong one. ā€œThank you, my Lord.ā€
Sir Tomura stares at you for a moment. ā€œDonā€™t thank me,ā€ he says, and turns Nomu away, nudging him back into a trot. You can barely hear what he says next. ā€œYou started it.ā€
Did you? You couldnā€™t say for sure. You tap your heels against the grey mareā€™s sides and hang on for dear life as she lurches into a trot, leaving any further thought about the conversation you and Sir Tomura just had in the dust behind you.

Ohhhhh so THATS what they changedddd- (ugh it's bad but good...)
Yeah totally agree with you on the "THERE'S A FUCKING APOCALYPSE BRO I DON'T THINK ME KISSING A GIRL WILL MAKE THINGS WORSE-!"
But I understand how Alek probably wants to write Anna off as (Definitely needs more bc it's shit-)
The idea that "it's wrong" isn't really a religious thing as much as you would expect. I say this as someone who didn't really do the "go to church every sunday" or "pray every night" type of thing but I DID have the typical religious household in a Mexican family. I didn't get told "you'll go yo hell" or "God doesn't love you bc your a child of satan-"
No thankfully none of that. But did get indirect signals.
An eyeroll, a groan, a simple comment, or a disgusted expression is ENOUGH for not only internalized homophobia to be developed but fear of acceptance
Which is what I think Anna is going through. It is the stage of acceptance. In which one not only accepts one's self but the fact that there will be people against you for the sole fact of BEING gay. And that THAT won't stop you from being your gay self (is it badly written and makes me want to cry with how bad it is sometimes? Yes but that's another thing-)
Anna isn't in a religious household or constantly being told "being gay is a bad so....no [smack]"
...But she kinda is. Bc that's probably what's going through her head at the slightest interaction with Lane. I can FEEL her internal anxiety and rage at not only Lane but in herself because "friends don't....FEEL things for friends"
"Your mind is not only your permanent home but also your most present one." - Uselessgay 2025 :))
Also we all know Anna treasures Dimitri above almost everything right? She wants his approval and praise and it stems from her want and need for approval from her own FATHER
And from what I've read it's not likely Dimitri is too fond of the idea that his sister is šŸ’…šŸ’…šŸ’…
From a nasty disgusted look to acting cold and uncaring to her when she need reassurance
Tumblr media
That to someone who constantly seeks the approval from those she loves is soul crushing. it's not a simple pain in your chest but something that sticks to you like unactivated slime! It's something you keeps it's claws in a death grip when hugging you and that u remember unconsciously
Now pair that with one's unintentional internalized homophobia and it's enough to not only be cruel to yourself but to whoever one likes in a gay way
The kiss scene in my mind was perfect. (As perfect as bad writing can get but...it's not BAAAD! (She could use a little more experience in writing such scenes))
The kiss and the scene leading up to it wasn't soft nor loving. It's was angry and desperate.
You're allowed to disagree bc I know what I'm saying is infuriating to ppl who just want Anna to stop being so...[wild gestures]
But it's real. It's fucking infuriating that only wlw have to deal with this shit when the straights are off smooching and having sex in the first šŸ’Ž diamond šŸ’Ž scene
But It's really is only something that straight people could never understand. I know it's hard to live in a time where wlw players are more accepted than ever but still [gestures wildly again]
Anna's route.....isn't BAD nor is it GOOD but it is real in the sense that it give the real experience OF being gay in an otherwise unaccepting environment
Again it's stupid and heartbreaking that's its ONLY wlw but wlw is not straight and it never will be (please don't take that as an insult! I mean that in a "agree to disagree" way and a "appreciate being you" type-pa way)
--- And omg this is so long- sorry I just want everyone to know I'm not COMPLETELY crazy in justifying the route.. I see the good in the bad and willing to ask questions...I'm not being mean I swear- :')
I havenā€™t caught up to Annaā€™s route yet on my slot but lowkey what was thatā€¦
Apparently thereā€™s variations depending on VoG or WoD/ compassion/no compassion etc and Iā€™ve seen ss for one path only so far.
Tumblr media
I just donā€™t get why Anna, who has so far been presented as being averse to looking at women romantically say something like this ? It feels ooc almost idk. You could argue that sheā€™s opening up slowly, and is still in denial over her feelings and/or sexuality and this was a way to open that avenue but it doesnā€™t feel right to me idk why.
Tumblr media
using the word ā€˜recoiledā€™ and then saying she wanted to ā€˜wash herselfā€™ is genuinely crazy bye. look, I would also recoil if someone kissed me outta nowhere (doubly so if I was struggling with my sexuality) but ā€˜wash herself offā€™ IS SO INSANE???? as if itā€™s a dirty act. and before anyone says anything, I know there are people have repressed desires; they canā€™t come to terms with themselves being attracted to the same gender and they could potentially feel that way. but oh my god, there has been no nuance in the way this has been handled. no deep religious trauma that couldā€™ve molded her this way, nothing that could even potentially explain why Anna would see same sex relationships and attraction the way she does. (someone correct me if Iā€™m wrong pls itā€™s been ages since I played my Anna route)
Lada and Tataā€™s budding relationship has been handled so much better. Thereā€™s questions from both and you can see theyā€™re both new to this; Lada even questions herself if ā€˜itā€™s okayā€™ to feel that way but it makes her feel happy so she does what her heart tells her to. What kinda reasoning is it that an apocalypse can happen but heaven forbid u wanna kiss a girl
There were so many ways to write a kiss scene between them. Idk if Iā€™m overthinking or if anyone else felt the same way
ITS SO WEIRD. this woman hates lesbians and bisexual players bruh i cannot.
(also hearing that fucking Boris appears today in a vision made me crash the fuck out)

OKAY.
Went and saw Rebecca Yarros speak at the Paramount Theater in Denver. First of all, thanks to the Paramount, the Tattered Cover, RY herself, and the Fantasy Fangirls Podcast for a great afternoon.
I didn't take video, but I did take notes. There were some vague-ish Onyx Storm spoilers with it being the last stop on the tour, so all notes will be below the cut!
What did she love the most about writing Violet in OS? - she's more confident in this book and more determined in what she has to do - they can't silence her.
Hints of Colonel Aetos's signet? - no, and no song that represents it/him, either.
Any other second signets to share? - no
Any signets we haven't seen yet? - No ... she's not going to steal our theorizing fun. Obviously there are signets we haven't seen yet because Violet hasn't seen them yet.
Question about interpersonal drama between the First Six besides just Lyra and Warrick disagreeing? - will not mention ... possibly because we *may* get more about that at another point.
Why did JFB know so much about feathertails? (basically, was he venin prior/did someone fill him in about it?) - everything JFB mentioned was a known fact about feathertails and was not let in on some vast venin conspiracy before crossing the parapet.
Signets show up when they do because nature wants its balance - which is why we're getting all the powerful signets again.
Is there magic elsewhere? (*wink wink*)(this is referencing the Isles without referencing the Isles)
Can she share Ridoc and Aotrom's Threshing story? - She actually IS considering a bonus scene about this but it's also a lot of "hey" "hey" "hey" "hey" and "did we just become best friends?" between them.
Most satisfying kill of the first two books? - Varrish.
Can she confirm a character BESIDES JESINIA who is safe in the series? - She will not confirm ... except for Broccoli. Broccoli is safe (won't kill pets).
Is there a specific epigraph to pay attention to? - All of them. But speaking of epigraphs ... they may not always directly tie into their respective chapter, but they do have some sort of connection somehow.
Was asked to comment on any of the Zihnal gifts specifically ... and chose not to.
About that new family member/brother ... what might she wish us to pay attention to? - Who is missing; someone who thinks is not enough (... basically, who has a reason to reach for power?).
Insight on how Kaori's records are so incorrect? - Remember, it's the riders that give the name of the dragon for the records. So ... do we trust that people are giving the correct names? Are the dragons?
She's not entirely discounting crazy grandma (Riorson, presumably) ideas ...
Aaric's signet did not manifest in IF.
In terms of percentage of full capacity, what is Violet's second signet at? - 10% (because she has no idea how to train it and there's one person alive that can train her); Xaden's probably at 50% with his; Violet's probably at 85% with her first signet (which yes, is pure power just in the form of lightning).
It is NOT the first time that venin have infiltrated the Basgiath scribes ... but Nasya? Is just narcoleptic (so it's not him).
No comment about seeing a venin scribe on the page prior to OS.
What Taylor Swift song would best describe Violet at the beginning of book four? - Look What You Made Me Do
Can she expand on the song she chose for Bodhi? - He's raised to be in Xaden's shadow; he's the spare.
What prompted her to write Broccoli? - She wanted to scare the crap out of us and then haha just kidding ... and also because it's so much fun to write because of where they are and what it symbolizes.
What does she think it is about the Empyrean world that appeals to everyone? - She wishes she knew ... but said possibly the inclusivity, the dragons, the hot men ...
What would Taylor Swift's signet be? - "I do not tell the queen her business." (... might not be direct direct quote, but close enough)
Tell us about the ring and how long it had been in existence. - We see the stone on the blade at a time and then we don't ...
Who is her favorite god/goddess and why? - Malek because you meet him and you're done; everyone fears him.
What about Onyx Storm makes it her favorite? - Her feet are firmly planted in the world and she loves to go places and do things and she had fun with the politics in the places (read: Isles) and has known the ending since FW and loved working toward it and just had fun. IF was a rough, rough time and writing Variation got her back on track and she just genuinely enjoyed writing OS.
If Ridoc had modern technology, what would be the first thing he would do? - You know that boy downloads Tinder ... doesn't wait for WiFi or anything ... also first photo on the app is of him and the Quest Squad or a selfie with Aotrom (that only has like one of Aotrom's eyes in it).
Speaking of Quest Squad ... describe the patch? - Might see it later! (but probably a map)
There was a question about which of her contemporaries she'd recommend and it depended on if you wanted to cry or not (if you do: Last Letter/Things We Leave Unfinished; if you don't: Variation, In the Likely Event).
Is there a character she was writing and knew they'd be a fan favorite and were or thought they would be and weren't? - Knew Ridoc would; didn't necessarily answer the other half, but reiterated that she had know idea that Broccoli would be an instant fan favorite (and was a late night/early am idea that she kept).
What has been her favorite part of the tour? - Right now because of being on stage at the Paramount, in a venue where she's seen so many shows. And the people who bring their service dogs with the service dragon vests.
MIL was gifted FW; advice for when she gets to the spicy and doesn't know that (audience member) reads them? - Run the other direction ... and then hand her Haunting Adeline so then it'll look tame.
Who does she think is the most underrated character? - Sawyer; also expanding on his relationship with Silseag, Sawyer is worried he's dishonoring him because of needing potential accommodations (like Violet), but Silseag's just waiting for him to come around.
Regarding where she came up with the analogy for the chilled pond/ice for mental health: - Her kids play hockey and she always wonders what's beneath the ice - we can swim through our emotions or glide right over them.
What are her desert island books? - East of Eden (Steinbeck) is her favorite; I missed one series but I did hear the Children of Blood and Bone (iirc) ... but basically she's like can I cheat and bring my kindle?
How has writing her books changed her life? - Still has to take her head up to look around ... but the core of her life - family - hasn't changed; the rest of the world around that core just spins a lot faster and there's a lot more people now to watch her succeed or watch her fail.
Thanks to Broccoli ... what pets exist in the world? - We've already known that domesticated animals exist, so it does open it up to pets, but it's not like they're going to be running around Basgiath.
A character she loves to hate: - She doesn't hate anybody, because everybody has a reason for what they're doing. Except Varrish; she hated Varrish because he was a two dimensional character (read: straight evil).
Advice for a spouse going through her first deployment? - it sucks; everyone does it differently; find a way to escape to keep the spiraling thoughts from coming (she read, personally).
Favorite Onyx Storm vibes playlist song? - Agreed with the audience member's mention of Halsey's Nightmare ... and also thinks that the end of book three is optimistic.
If she could tell readers to reread one specific scene for hidden meaning ... - The last 100 pages.
Can she expand on what it means to be dedicated? - I'm pretty sure she alluded to us getting a bit more info about this in book four, but it's basically that you're given in service to a god.
Did she use parts of Colorado Springs for inspiration for the Gauntlet and Parapet? - Not necessarily those specifically, but CO does play into inspiration for geography, particularly with the mountains (and Aretia).
Weather report for the Continent? - Southern gets warmer (closer to the equator), weather patterns with the mountain ranges, there's more magic in areas of more geologic change (tectonic plates).
Sooo there's mention of pirates and kraken and y'know, Heaton breathes underwater ... - She hasn't written books four and five, but she might use or might not use things she mentions in the series ...
What else can we do to support her as an author? - Read other people's books (and be patient).
Her son asked which is her favorite child (or which son is her favorite and why is it him - it wasn't entirely clear) ... to which she said that it's like she always says - whichever kid is sleeping.
About the TV series: the lines we love are there, a lot of the dialogue is there, it's in good hands with Moira and that she knows what's important (has talked to readers) and is capturing the essence ... and to stop sending Theo James her way for Xaden because he's 40 and white.
Any specific IF Xaden POV scenes she'd love to write? - She would love to write the time in between when Xaden learns Vi is captured and he rescues her (... but it sounds like given secrets boy, we probably won't actually get it).
Final bomb: First three songs on the book four playlist are (all TS): Down Bad, But Daddy I Love Him, I Can Fix Him
... and more Xaden POVs in book four depend on what he's doing.

heyy i love love love your post about lgā€™s morals you truly read the tea leaves with that one!!! i do disagree with what you said about lg being amoral tho i feel amoral suggests he isnā€™t aware of morals but he definitely is, and u did point that out in your post! no hate at all btw
hi!! thank you for your kind words :3. i believe you are referring to this post
this got very long and accidentally turned into a whole meta on lu guang and vein lmaoo. answer under the cut:
yeah honestly in retrospect i do feel that my use of the word "amoral" was a bit clumsy lol. this post is nearly a year old so it's hard to recall specifics but i think at the time i failed to consider the full definition of the word, which is not only a disregard for morals but also a lack of moral sense to begin with. and like you said, my own posts contradict that, as lg is shown to be well aware of the moral code. i also was trying to use it as like, a middle ground i guess? between moral and immoral. like my "at best" addition was me trying to be generous, but upon reflection that's sort of a false dichotomy.
for some context, the post you are referencing got posted to twitter (something i didn't know until ppl told me) and was lowkey a hit tweet (a bit scary ngl), and while most people agreed, a small handful Did Not Like it haha
interestingly, a couple of the tweets disagreeing did focus heavily on both the "amoral" thing and me saying lg wasn't a morally grey anti hero. bc i don't want to debate on twitter, i'm gonna take advantage of this ask to explain myself further hehe
DISCLAIMER: what follows is my current perspective and analysis based on available information. i understand everything i have said already and will continue to say going forward could be proven wrong in future seasons.
the main criticism i saw (again this was only like, three people, but still) was that i "disagreed with him being a morally grey anti hero but then proceeded to describe just that". i do understand why this was some people's take away bc the terms "morally grey" and "antihero" have kind of been blurred over the years. since i am by no means the final word on how these terms are to be used, all i can do is provide my understanding of the terms:
morally grey = a character whose actions are morally ambiguous
antihero = a character whose actions/traits are often questionable, but who, at the end of the day, can still be classified as a hero rather than a villain
based on my understanding of the terms (which does seem to coincide with formal definitions), lu guang would not be morally grey as i feel his actions are explicitly immoral (immoral = when the character's actions are definitively wrong and violate a pre-established moral code - i touch on this more in this post) and he would not be an antihero as i feel he cannot be classified as heroic in the grand scheme of things. yes he is complex, yes he is sympathetic, yes he has a capacity for kindness/selflessness and is largely motivated by love, but none of those things make him an antihero. if that were the case, any well written villain would be a antihero haha.
there's a whole other added layer of complexity here because lg is a) not the antagonist and b) not the story villain. for the sake of this argument, the "story villain" is defined as the individual who is the villain only in framing, whereas the "real villain" is defined as the individual who is unequivocally in the wrong by real-world moral standards. the same differentiator can be applied to heroes. so when i say lg cannot be considered heroic, that is what i am referring to. furthermore, vein and liu xiao, who appear to be working together, are currently both the antagonists and the story villains, but that is mostly due to us being anchored in lg's perspective. we don't know much about their motives/goals other than a) they want to maintain the timeline ("make the uncertain, certain") and b) they want csx dead. we of course root against them because csx is the hero & protagonist of our story, and bc they have proven to have very questionable morals themselves. however, based on the information currently available, iā€™d argue that it's possible to interpret them as very morally grey antiheroes in the grand scheme of things. we already know that they are working against lg because lg has disrupted the timeline and compromised the "certainty" liu xiao mentions. they will (most likely) always be the antagonists, but it would not take much reframing for them to no longer be strictly villains, if that makes any sense. ProWritingAid puts this distinction very succinctly: "A story's villain is always an antagonist, but not every antagonist needs to be a villain." imo the only "hero" this story has is csx, and i have a feeling he will remain that way, though like all things i've said, this could change.
and that leads me to my final point. i am well aware that the show initially frames lg as a hero and hasnā€™t fully positioned him as a villain yet. however, in my opinion, the ending of bridon arc marked a shift in how he is being framed within the narrative. i want to make it clear my posts have been less about the show's current framing and more about analyzing the ethics of lu guang's actions through an objective, real-world lens. and playing around with some reframing hypotheticals of course. this is something that unfortunately got lost along the way.
anyways, i don't mind it if people disagree or have additional perspectives, but some of the critiques felt like they were missing the point in one way or another. and some of them were straight up rude. sorry for this whole essay, i hope you don't mind!

how do you make a whole post about people suffering from the tariffs and the need for compassion and never once consider the canadians who will suffer from the us initiating a trade war
That post was intentionally, very specifically directed at leftist Americans in blue states who are making jokes about people in red states suffering, with a side of me complaining about a small part of the Canadian government's plan about how to address this extremely complicated situation that I, in the post, admit to not fully understanding. I will apologize for that at least, that wasn't really what I meant to be talking about but I kinda had to critique the targeting red states part to explain my point about how the GOP thinks and why OTHER AMERICANS SPECIFICALLY should reconsider the way they talk about this. I didn't mean to say Canada was wrong to act, I was trying to address how certain Americans are responding to those actions, and that kind requires talking about Canada.
(I will also admit that I am am slightly salty at every single other country at the moment given most of them, including, as far as my research could turn up, Canada, won't let disabled people immigrate there unless we can work which like. We can't. Or we have a spouse or family member who has a job that will cover all of our expenses which....yeah most of us don't have access to jobs like that. My fiancƩ can provide for myself and him atm but he loses his job if he leaves America. We're queer and disabled and stuck here because the majority of the world doesn't think disabled people are worth saving. So yeah, kinda feels a bit like being complete abandoned by everyone and it does color my perspective a bit even if I do happen to agree that Canada should protect it's people from the harm Trump's bullshit is about to rain down on them.)
But yeah, obviously the entire world is going to suffer because of the shit Trump is pulling and I'm pissed about that too. The Canadian and Mexican governments cannot just sit by and do nothing while their people suffer, and I don't fault them having to take drastic measures even if I do disagree with the way one government is going about it. At the end of the day all of this suffering is Trump and Musk's fault and they should be the ones shouldering the majority of the blame. But I'm also allowed to make posts about one thing that is specifically directed at a singular group of people, especially a group of people I'm part of. I'm allowed to critique my own political allies when they fuck up. And as far as I've seen most of us have been not only very sympathetic, but borderline too eager to shoulder the blame themselves for the rest of the world suffering. I haven't seen any leftist ignore that the people of Canada and Mexico are going to suffer due to the actions of our government. I've even seen some of them legit reaching suicidal levels of self-hatered, saying they don't want to suffer but it's what we all(Americans) deserve for letting this happen, as if it was the people's fault and not a small group of money and power-hungry bastards who don't give a shit about anyone but themselves. I did not detect a lack of sympathy for the populations of other countries amongst Americans discussing this topic so I did not think that needed to be addressed in my post critiquing said Americans for their lack of sympathy for their countrymen.
So yeah. I am sorry to the Canadians and Mexicans who are going to suffer. I'm really, really fucking sorry. This is embarrassing and scary and painful for all of us, I wish I could stop it. I'm one disabled person who is bedridden recovering from surgery cycling through the stages of grief so fast it's making me nauseous. Your government IS right to try to protect you, I would give anything for mine to do the same, not just for Americans but for everyone trapped on this earth with us.
But again, I am allowed to make posts that are about one thing or talking to one specific group of people. I wasn't trying to address the people in other countries at all, this was talking to American progressives and liberals and leftists, and very specifically ones living in blue states, addressing how they talk about other Americans and how poorly it reflects upon them.
I apologize for not being able to cover every single aspect of a massive, extremely complicated situation in my one post, and sorry for being so bitchy about the Canadian government, I didn't mean to imply that other people aren't gonna suffer too. I figured that went without saying since I've seen so many Americans talking about it already. We should do both. Sympathy for everyone who's going to suffer.
I'm going to go lay down and continue to worry about my American friends and Canadian friends, and everyone now. Bye.

Please give me your headcanons/ideas on Ranger Marsh, and my life is yoursšŸ™ (He's my favorite old man yeehaw squeeeeeee)
YEAH HE IS
Ranger marsh is THE FATHER OF ALL TIME to me because listen-
I live in Florida. Whenever they talk about manatees or red tide or the effects of a cold snap im like YOOO I KNOW ABOUT THAT!!!
I need yall to understand šŸ™ hes part of the fcking ecosystem.
He understands the needs and behaviours and everything about the everglades and its creatures. He knows how to talk to them and they know him and love him. He chooses to go out and help right away with this " I gotcha dont worry about nothing!" attitude
Hes so connected with it and its beautiful-
Its just that sense of community hes got with all the creatures in the everglades that makes me šŸ„ŗ hes got such a kind heart and he seems like the person to choose to do something because someone has to yk?
Alot of people would be offput by all the bugs and heat and etc, but he just goes oh well and keeps going along and I think that is SO special
And im gonna be honest here. Alot of people ARENT. Like at all, and they do the dumbest sht
One time my dad and I were on a board walk near a river that had gators in it and there were signs about it too. We saw this??? Fcking guy in a whole business suit with his kid wanting to give a little gator fcking store bought chicken nuggets??? šŸ’€šŸ™ we like kindly explain uhhh heyyy don't do that cuz u don't want gators to associate humans with food or (gestures broadly to all the many reasons u shouldn't feed wild animals)
And then we continued our walk, but when we turned back we fcking saw a mini crowd (with several small kids leaning THROUGH THE GAP in the railing) surrounding a guy with a kiddie fishing pole trying to??? Idk feed the gator the chicken nuggets.
There were signs about not disturbing the wildlife.
I didnt exaggerate a single aspect of this btw.
Like thank fck gators are ambush predators and not chasers cuz those guys can run and climb like nobody's business... and hide under cars
SIDE TANGEANT ASIDE alot of people just aren't in tune with and have like a totally unrealistic and detached from reality expectation of that kinda nature. But ranger marsh (i headcanon that his first name is Rover btw cuz not only is that a flooding guy name but cmon- RIVER MARSH?!!) Is always so patient about explaining that kind of stuff to the others in the show
Hes got an understanding and a system on how to handle things.
Also I do appreciate how he struggles with understanding technology and prefers old fashioned ways. Because while there are alot of folks like that, alot of people can be... very aggressive about it if u disagree with them :(
But ranger marsh, while he can't understand, he still does come around and appreciates it the best he can yk? Like sure he doesn't get WHY and he sucks at it, but he comes around and appreciates it, even if it isn't always for him
The awe he felt when the gup k went under water and he saw the world he loves from an entirely new angle? Oh my god my heart-
He would absolutely take in any stray creature that needs help, he feels like the kinda guy that would've tried to help a wild animal heal up in the garage when they were a kid and everyone else told him not to touch it šŸ„ŗ
Also personal headcanon time:
I dont think this guy could keep a secret for the life of him. Like this guy doesn't even realize, he feels like the guy would would see something weird and then go " well ill be i never did see anythin as strange as that before" to a fcking bush or the sky
He sort just has this factual way of speaking that reminds me of people who go "well yeah well when ya go n talk her dont mention x and x cuz I'm pretty sure she's suspecting her boyfrens been cheatin on her and oh I wasn't supposed to share that was i."
Also I feel like maybe I'm just projecting and making him autistic but like??? Has a hard time dealing with change??? Likes being in the wild with a bunch of creatures??? Probably needs his "two hours of contemplating on the back porch" every day ????
Hes absolutely the type to want to dig in the mud for hours thank you, he absolutely went fck living a normal life in society I want to be friends with the animals under my porch
I desperately want him to basically go "hm ok ur staying here for tonight" to calico jack who is the equivalent of a (very kind and gentle) feral stray šŸ™
I'm gonna make a post about their dynamic later lol
Cuz likes its an old funky pirate cat with isolation issues thats probably scared of gators and Caimens for I lost me leg reasons and hasn't had like a normal meal in probably over a decade at least
(Cj probably can't handle dairy but he's gonna try (and fail) ranger marsh probably makes delicious mac n cheese)
also cj literally uses a peg leg that can NOT be good for his back, like there's so much special care needed if u have a proper prosthetic but a peg leg is like šŸ’€šŸ™ so bad
I feel like CJ is this very kind and gentle soul, but the second he meets someone his age (cuz they ARE around the same age) he just becomes a wet gremlin, ill yap more about it on their dynamic post tho
As for the question of "ayyo whats up with ranger marshes wife or rather tweaks mom what's up with that"
I dont think tweaks mom died or anything, I think they just divorced when she was in like middle school and then he got her legos to try to help her feel better šŸ˜
probably just cuz of personal differences... but yk some people can get kinda :| during divorces and stuff
I feel like they were probably high school sweethearts that got married before they even grew as people
It seems to me like tweak was probably homeschooling and definitely was skipping grades and whatever
I liek to think she has lego models of all her gups and that she had an emo phase in middle school šŸ™ she still has the spirit in her soul but let's be real she's probably too busy elbows deep in an engine to upkeep that stuff anymore lol
(Ik we saw a younger tweak before in the show but like who says it wasn't at a different point in her life lol)
I dont think she was necessarily into emo specifically as a way to rebel her own parents btw (at least not her dad) but just because she liked the culture lol and was probably on my space as a teen
She 100% tried to take her dad to a monster truck show at least once and he absolutely did not understand the hype šŸ˜ but tweak was inspired to take inspiration from the mix of animal designs and unique shapes into something more eco friendly and versatile tho
Like the gup k is just a wetland monster truck šŸ™
She absolutely had years of trial and error with all sorts of gizmos that exploded at least a few times before she got the hang of engineering
Probably tried to make all sorts of things to help the little critters her pa took care of
Might be part of the reason he doesn't understand tech that well because when ur a kid without alot of money u gotta work with what u have and sometimes that doesn't always work out XD but hey restriction of choices can lead to alot of unique and creative solutions!
idk the exact reason why ranger marsh and his wife would've divorced, maybe it was just a difference in how they envisioned their life styles and the fact ranger marsh seems a bit too "introverted and quiet" for a more social life and environment with a normal job tbh
(Cough autism cough they are both autistic in different ways cough)
but the everglades have always been tweaks home and I doubt she wanted to leave. I think she still talks to her mom and stuff but just... not that much
I dont really think ranger marsh would've tried again in that type of relationship, hes too busy being busy with life and enjoying the small moments
And hot cocoa from the machine that tweak gave him as a gift
He absolutely helped her keep her room organized and tidy as a kid tho, but look at her room into he octopod now XD
Also SOMEONE MAKE HIM SAY " BLESS THEIR HEART" PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE THATS THE NUMBER ONE SOUTHERN SAYING-
Like šŸ„ŗ idk if yall know but bless ur heart can mean alot of different stuff depending on the context- it can go from "oh my goodness thats awful I can empathize with that and I wish them the best" to "well.... that person has no FCKING idea what they're doing but.... bless that idiots heart hes tryingšŸ˜‚ šŸ™"

If youā€™re still doing unpopular opinions: I know itā€™s kind of on me for even checking reddit but itā€™s kind of nuts to go on r/animefigures and seeing almost entirely nsfw posted there. Iā€™m not going to yuck anyoneā€™s yum there, but itā€™s when you see comments like ā€œhey anyone got any cute/hot male figures?ā€ And all the replies are ā€œmen donā€™t sell, I donā€™t want to buy a male fig!ā€ I think thatā€™s nuts.
A lot of the figures I want are men and it sucks that likeā€¦ I cannot get figures of my faves to begin with. (Curse of liking characters who are not bishounen/have unusual body types)
strongly agree | agree | neutral | disagree | strongly disagree
this is another case of idgaf about men but i gaf about women and my mlm/nblm besties so yeah!!!!! get some men in here!!!!!!!!!
ah yes the reddit anime figure community.....i have never dared to approach but i can imagine. i guess it's the opposite of the gay bubble phenomena (when you're in your little fun gay bubble online and you forget most people are straight and don't know what a pronoun is)....the straight men who can't imagine another type of person than them existing bubble phenomena.....
send me your unpopular figure opinions

Hey dumbass maybe actually look into more to the people who she has hurt instead of you know compared to the dumbass we called Elon and trump, who which, if you pay attention to our world around you (or from a another country), has be discrimination toward LGBT communities and immigrants and pay on a law that can literally not hire you based on your race, gender, sexuality so tell me with a serious face why sai a lesbian is like trump at all? who keep in mind doesn't want to lily to lose her channel even after every she done because she doesn't want her to eat And which I disagree with it but also sai never misgender lily because she has yknow moral unlike lily who you are kind of defending saying doesn't want she wrote which does leaf to the other accusing of her of insest, pedophile and beasttea (not right but forgot to spell it) and abuse the people around her so tell me what is sai similar in any way to trump because to me you sound a delusional nutcase who need get off Twitter to go outside because also sai did nothing yeah she did nothing like, breaking the wall that was her terrible critical thinking there also spread awareness to lily to her insest fetish because I didn't really about I knew she wrote Stockholm and gross stuff but not the insest shit which help other not become victims so tell me how is sai she "defending " a pedophile who you never made that clear are you talking about lily or somebody ether one you are as stupid as a koala but also why we want her in a jailcell well let because she has committed terrible crimes that should put her in jail you moron I already said that was all above so I'll say in Canada it is legal to write, drawing and photo child porn you will be if your caught with it so yes she should be put in jail by the way it's Stockholm if you curious.
Sorry this took this long to read, and to sai I hope you have a great day šŸ˜ƒšŸ‘
i love how much of a little impact you actually are. want lily in jail for what, being weird? when there are genuine pedophiles and predators on the platform you try to defend? you cant even call it more than "the allegations" like oh watch out the old shriveled up slur slinging hag think someone else should go to prison, she definitely knows about actual laws and prosecution. yall think youre vigilantes or some shit? fighting the good fight for what, victims that dont exist? weaponizing that to harass someone over and over and over, to the point where she has to strike your channel because of what YOU think is an appropriate response???? your brain is def fried from having not a single impact on anything ever, in your whole 40 ish years of being around, and its so fucking sad to see how little your crusades have of an impact, while you're so disconnected from reality that you think ANY OF THIS is a valuable course of action. while fascism is on the rise no less, youre on the same side of history as fucking elon musk and donald trump, and you see nothing wrong with that
You know it's great. I don't focus on making videos about Lily's crimes and allegations? I'm not doing enough. Lily wrecks her own channel in the algorithm to go after things I like and puts her own channel in serious danger of termination by falsely copyright striking me? Why do you think that's a big deal.
Sai doesn't want Lily to lose her channel because she wants to keep making money on her! Oh Lily might lose her channel directly because of messing with Sai's channel? It's weird you'd want that anyway.
I'm never gonna win lol.
Meanwhile I didn't even do any of this on purpose, just took off running with the opportunity that fell into my lap and am just doing whatever.
I'm curious, nonny, why you think Lily isn't a "genuine" pedophile and predator, given her history and the pedophilic content she's written.

I actually think Dorian and Orym should fight more.
Remember when their slowly building tension over and entire episode (full of passive aggressive remarks and blame throwing) led to threats? And how after, Orym thanked Dorian for handing over the crown sadly because he knew Dorian would be mad at him? And Dorian couldn't even look at him because he was legitimately hurt, thinking Orym was disappointed in him for doing what he thought was right? That was peak.
The fact they went from that to their current closeness and trust is the best part of their entire dynamic. Their relationship was hard fought and still will be. They will fight for it because they respect and care for one another deeply, and their disagreements don't change that, only improve it.
