Watched The Primevals. Stop-motion adventure film finished long after the creator's death. Pretty good! Got the kind of designs in it that make you want to slap them and go oooh!
Also featuring:
Really good animation on the yetis. All of the stop-motion animation is very smooth and lifelike, very good at making you accept all these lizard creatures wandering around without them seeming obviously out of place, but the facial animation on the yetis is exceptionally good. Extremely emotive and subtle.
Younger hero banging his older lady professor. I presume that's what they were doing. There's even a hand-off to the younger lady anthropologist at the end like "oh, I'm sure you'll find someone else to help you finish writing your book *wink*"
Oooh, look at that matte painting! *slap-slap-slap*
90 minutes!!!
#movies#the primevals#legitimately a good movie for kids to watch I think#notwithstanding the occasional reminder of when the creator grew up and how that might colour how things might be portrayed#if people can forgive it in star trek they can forgive it in this

Between some of Tuvok's favorite music being monks chanting, having a copy of a proto-Vulcan drama in his quarters, reciting poetry that no one else likes (his own? someone else's? unclear: It's a talent night which implies the former but the two who mention it say 'Vulcan poetry' - not 'His/Tuvok's poetry') buying a meditation lamp from a Vulcan master even though the guy doubled the price on him last minute, the fact that he's always reading alone in the mess hall and wants others to know he stands apart from them (taking steps to ensure this is the case), and that he's memorized The Dictates of Poetics by T'hain of Vulcan (being very opinionated about them), I feel like we the audience can cobble together a lot about his taste in media and that's honestly so special. He also likes and actively follows sumo wrestling. That's important. Not because it adds or subtracts to what I've said above but because I think it's kind of funny. He, Janeway, and Chakotay all just really like sumo.
#Tuvok#chara analysis#not really but <3#star trek voyager#If Tuvok were alive in the modern day he'd be one of those people in the comments of a song lamenting how tiktok ruined it#by making it popular#if he was young and in fandom he'd be lamenting about how someone's spotify playlist for X Character is SO off base#He owns records. He owns records and still looks down on everyone else who owns records. Because they're doing it for 'the aesthetic'.#He and Tom are at each other's throats they'd HATE each others taste in music and film etc#But despite everything you can and should say about Tuvok - he does not hate women. So. I will forgive him for being annoying <3#I didn't notice before that Tuvok seems to like literature a lot...#I don't know if (TOS - the only one I care about) Spock has any stated interests besides the lute#I know T'Pol reads like - the Vulcan bible but does she read anything else/have any other hobbies?#I think she also exercises but idk if that counts as a HOBBY

Since I am constantly seeing discourse about the subject (especially in regards to thoughts I've expressed in my fanfic), I want to explain my opinion on some things. But I'm going to ignore the crazy sci-fi and break it down into more a understandable context.
Imagine you have a co-worker. He's kind of a jerk and he's said some dumb shit, and you rightfully write him off for it. Unfortunately, your new friend is also his best friend, so the three of you kind of hang out sometimes. And you still work together. He's good at his job, but you think his personality leaves a lot to be desired. At best, you're acquaintances, at worst you're less-than-cordial colleagues.
Then you get into some trouble, are in a bad place, and he ends up unintentionally being on the receiving end of you spilling your guts about personal baggage. He can't relate exactly, but he makes sure you know that he sympathizes, and doesn't make fun of you or bring up how vulnerable you were. Your secret is safe with him, which seems counterintuitive to his character. He's actually rather nice throughout the whole incident. So okay, maybe your friend has a reason for liking this guy. After that you work together some more, the three of you, even collaborating on some big special project. You warm up to him (he's actually a lot nicer than he initially seemed, once he stops trying to pretend like he's hot shit).
You might even tentatively consider him a friend. Not a close friend, but a friend. You'll eat lunch together at work; he'd probably give you a ride if you needed one. But there's a difference between work friends and real friends. You've been treated pretty poorly by people in the past, and you're not just going to trust any random person for the really important stuff. Good friends, best friends would lend you their car. They'd bring you soup if you were sick, listen to your problems, keep your deepest secrets, take care of you - especially when you can't take care of yourself. He's also been watching you, trying to flirt and has subtly asked you out a couple times. You think this guy isn't so bad, but you don't trust him - not like that.
And then you're with some people at a gathering and suddenly, you've been drugged. Everything is hot and fuzzy and all you can think about is picking up someone and screwing their brains out. And there he is, your sort-of-a-friend. You spend the night throwing yourself at him - touching him, pushing him against the wall, practically trying to tear his clothes off. All you can think is why not? He's easy, he's got a reputation - and obviously you're not thinking clearly because of the drugs.
Except instead of hauling you off to some room, he pushes your hands away - says that you're sick, you need to go home. He calls you a cab, but when he sees the state you're in, he climbs in with you and tells the driver your address. You're trying to get into his lap, insisting that you want this, that whatever you've said before about his advances aren't true. You're so doped up and out of your mind, even you aren't sure if these are lies or the truth. And for a minute, he gives in when you kiss him - he's kissing you back. But he stops, despite your protests, despite the fact that things he's said have you sure that he wants what you're offering. Instead, he gets you home, makes sure you've got water and something for a hangover. He gets your shoes off so you're comfortable, but tucks you into bed fully-clothed. He calls your mutual friend to check up on you in the morning in case you're too sick and need help. Then he leaves.
How would that not change your perspective? This is someone you thought was only a surface level work friend, someone you weren't sure you could trust. Then he took care of you, kept you safe, made sure you were ok when you were vulnerable, and stopped you from doing something you'd regret. Suddenly this guy went from a "sure I'll spot you five bucks for a coffee" friend to, "let me hold you hair back and bring you tea while you're sick" friend.
That is how I see B'Elanna's view of Tom after "Blood Fever". I can't imagine a scenario like this that doesn't leave your perceptions of a person fundamentally changed - for the better. Yes, she was embarrassed, and yes it was a violating experience. But honestly, I would have thought that anger would be aimed more at Vorik (even if it wasn't his fault), because he's the one who forced all of this onto B'Elanna in the first place. And from what we know of B'Elanna's struggle with vulnerability, it makes more sense to me that her embarrassment would be aimed inward, because she tried to force herself on Tom and is constantly worried about the "Klingon" aspects of herself being "too much" for other people.
So yes, I stand by my headcanon that B'Elanna does have a "silver lining" takeaway from the whole fiasco - she sees Tom in a drastically different and better light, and appreciates what he did for her (for the latter, she even says as much at the end of the episode).
#Tom Paris#B'Elanna Torres#voy#star trek#blood fever#st: voy#voyager#episode thoughts#I've had multiple people tell me#that it's wrong for me to write B'Elanna#as holding onto the one “good thing” that came from the Blood Fever incident#by which I mean - Tom looking out for her#and I stand by this stance#if Tom can forgive her for literally trying to FORCE HIM into having sex#I think B'Elanna can forgive Tom for being human#and briefly giving into his desire to kiss her#he's not perfect but he STOPPED#and don't even start the “well it's fine because he WANTED it”#because that's some sexist bullshit#he WANTED a consensual relationship with her#he literally refused her advances until sci-fi bullshit#made it a life or death choice#and My Guy that means HE can't consent either#any more than he could if someone held a knife to her throat#and said “I'll kill her if you don't fuck”#so stick that in your pipe and SMOKE IT

Optimus’ attitude towards Megatron’s betrayal at the end of tf one is very ironic when you take into account earthspark’s premise. (I know they’re separate continuities but hear me out)
TF One’s ending shows Optimus does not think any relationship with Megatron is salvageable. Even before the final fight, Optimus’ first words are,
“We could’ve built the future together.”
Megatron doesn’t process it until the banishment, (his answer to this, “I’ll build it myself,” before charging to attack, and his later shock at the banishment, suggest to me he didn’t even realize that Optimus wasn’t offering some form of Olive Branch or forgiveness) but it’s clear to me Optimus had already given up on his best friend. There was no going back to what they had. But at the same time, part of Optimus desperately wants Megatron to understand why he also chose to let go.
“We could’ve built the future together.”
“We were given the power to change our world but you chose to destroy it, just like Sentinel. You betrayed cybertron and its citizens. And you betrayed… me.”
“It didn’t have to end this way.”
Yet as always, Megatron refuses to take any of the blame.
“This isn’t over… Prime.”
Optimus even had an internal monologue about it. The conflict is key. He acknowledges the line between friend and foe can be blurry but is adamant that once it’s crossed, there can be no going back.
“The line between friend and enemy is not as clear as I once believed. Once it’s crossed, there is no going back, because some transformations are permanent.”
This line is especially fun to think about with Earthspark’s existence. Yes, they are separate continuities, but regardless, it proves Optimus in Transformers One IS WRONG. People can change. They can see they screwed up and try to make amends. It is possible for Megatron to do this.
Whether or not TF One Optimus is willing to give his Megatron another chance should said Megatron ever see the error in his ways is another layer to this. One that, if a sequel of some kind is ever made, I hope they explore.
Granted that would mean this Megs would need a LOT of character development, but I’d love to see him realized he messed up and then Optimus is the one that acts cold in response and has to warm up to the idea of forgiving Megs.
I would love to explore this in a fanfic. But I am both lazy and lack wider knowledge of this franchise and its characters. And unlike Star Trek I don’t feel confident enough to fake it till I make it. So I’ll just think of various scenarios in my head.

Connections 101: How Not to Overthink It
Pairing: Spencer Reid x Gn! Reader
Word Count: 1.7k+
DNI: Everyone is welcome!
Author's Note: Season 2 Spencer Reid save me, my man ya'll.
Me on my way to not upload for 2 months AGAIN. I'M SORRYYYYYYYYY (Enjoy though, honestly forgot how much i love writing :P)
Not beta read chat, forgive the "Speeling" and "Granmma" mistakes
Spencer Reid is someone who doesn't know who he is.
Well, biologically he is a male, 25, has brown eyes and brown hair. He is smart, a certified genius with an IQ of 187 who can read 20,000 words per minute with an eidetic memory.
.
.
But.. is that it? Is that all there is to him?
Connections are hard, despite how much he knows about the human brain and how they interact, of course he does, he's a profiler.
Apart from understanding why people are the way they are, he doesn't understand himself, and why he is the way he is.
He has great friends in the BAU, Derek Morgan, Penelope Garcia, Jennifer Jareu (JJ), Emily Prentiss, Aaron Hotcher (Can he even consider Hotch a friend? He's technically just his boss.), and Jason Gideon.. but he's more of a father figure.
And.. then there's you.
You..
Curious, clever… captivating. You have a way of moving through the world that feels deliberate, like every step, every glance, is part of some intricate choreography.
You’re thoughtful, quick-witted… achingly kind. It’s in the way you listen, like, really listen, even when Spencer’s rambling about statistics or obscure facts, hell, even his Star Trek theories. The way you remember the little things—his favourite tea, the way he likes his books stacked, the fact that he prefers jazz when he needs to focus.
You’ve always had this way of existing in Spencer’s orbit that confuses and grounds him at the same time. Where others see him as the walking encyclopedia (Though he does appreciate the.. compliment?), the awkward genius, you see… him. And that terrifies him as much as it fascinates him.
You’re not like the others. You don’t approach him with curiosity laced with pity, or frustration thinly veiled as camaraderie. No, when you look at Spencer, there’s something in your gaze that feels like it might burn straight through him. Not in a hostile way—no, it’s softer, warmer, like sunlight streaming through a window on a cold morning. It’s disarming.
At first, he didn’t know how to handle you. He expected you to lose interest, to grow tired of the way his sentences sometimes trail off when his brain moves faster than his mouth, or the way he rambles about a topic long after others have stopped listening. But you never did. You listened... Actually listened.
It was unnerving, how you broke through the defenses he didn't even realize he had. You laughed at his jokes, even the awkward ones he muttered more to himself than anyone else. You noticed the little things, like how he fiddles with his watch when he's anxious, or how he taps his pen against his lip when he's lost in thought.
"Don't do that," you once teased, taking the pen gently from his hand and laying it on the table. "You'll smear ink on your face, and I'll have to explain why our resident genius is walking around with a blue mustache."
He blinked at you in a fluster, but the warmth of your smile melted the embarrassment almost immediately.
With you, things feel… easier. Not easy, no, because nothing about Spencer's life is ever truly easy, but easier. You have a way of making the world seem less sharp-edged, less overwhelming. When he spirals into overthinking or gets stuck in his own head, you're there to ground him-not by fixing things or offering advice, but simply by being there.
You don't push, you don't pry, and somehow, he opens up in ways he never has before.
"What's going on in that big brain of yours?" you asked, your tone light but laced with a genuine curiosity.
He hedged, his fingers clamping down on the edge of the file he'd been holding. "Do you ever get this feeling that you know everything about the people around you but nothing about yourself?"
His question hung in the air, soft and unobtrusive, yet it unraveled something in him, finally letting it out, loosening the tension in his shoulders. Spencer hesitated, his eyes darting down to his hands before flicking back to you, as you lean forward, humming in thought.
"All the time," you admitted with a small smile, leaning back in your chair again as if to give him the space to breathe. "But I've learned that figuring yourself out isn't really a.. how do I put it, a one-time thing?" You furrow your brows, trying to find a way to put it into understandable words. "It's… like reading a really long book. Sometimes the chapters don't make sense until you're further along."
He cocked his head, considering your words. "What if you never reach the end? What if you're just… incomplete?"
You shrugged, your expression open and kind. "Then you keep reading. And maybe you stop worrying about the ending so much."
It wasn't the kind of response Spencer expected. You may have thought he was expecting you to say, "well, it gets easier; or he is overthinking this." Instead, you ..basically accepted the uncertainty of this and allowed him to, also.
For a moment, the silence stretched between you, not uncomfortable but charged with connection he rarely experienced. You watched him, your eyes steady but not pressing, in some way giving him a choice to say more, or nothing at all.
Spencer took a deep breath. "Sometimes I feel like I'm more of an observer than a participant. Like I'm watching other people live their lives, and I'm just… cataloging it.
You leaned forward, propping your chin on your hand as you regarded him with an easy curiosity. "Maybe that's because you catch things others miss, Mr. Profiler. It’s not a bad thing, Spence. It.. just means you see the details that make life more interesting. Comes in handy for cases, doesn’t it?"
His lips quirked into a faint smile, the kind that didn't quite reach his eyes but still carried a flicker of appreciation, his brown doe eyes softening slightly. "You make it sound less… isolating."
"That's because it doesn't have to be," you said simply. "Well, not with me, anyway."
Spencer’s chest ached at your words, a gentle warmth seeping into the emptiness he’d grown so used to. He didn’t understand how you always managed to see through the barriers he’d built—barriers he barely understood himself. But somehow, you did, effortlessly peeling them away.
He found himself studying your face, the soft curve of your lips as you spoke, the way your eyes stayed on his like they were searching for truths he wasn’t ready to say aloud.
You leaned back slightly, a thoughtful smile playing on your lips as you continued to watch him, your expression open and inviting. It wasn’t the kind of scrutiny he was used to—clinical, curious, detached. No, this was something warmer, something that felt like sunlight breaking through the cold fog he so often lived in.
“You don’t have to figure it all out today, you know,” you said softly, your voice dipping just enough to make his heart skip. “And you don’t have to do it alone.”
Spencer’s breath hitched. How was it that you always seemed to know exactly what to say, the words slipping past the walls he hadn’t even realized were still standing?
He opened his mouth to respond but faltered, unsure of how to express what he was feeling without fumbling it. His gaze dropped to the table between you, his fingers twitching with the impulse to reach for something—anything—to steady himself. Before he could, your hand moved into his line of sight, your fingers brushing his wrist lightly, grounding him.
“Hey,” you murmured, your tone gentle yet insistent. His eyes lifted hesitantly to yours, drawn to the quiet confidence in your expression. “You’re allowed to take up space, Spencer. You’re allowed to just… be.”
The way you said his name—soft, deliberate, with a kind of affection that made his pulse stutter—felt like a balm to something raw and aching inside him. And then, as if to completely disarm him, you smiled. Not just any smile, but the kind that reached your eyes, crinkling at the corners, warm and unguarded. A smile meant just for him.
The corners of his lips twitched in response, and for a fleeting moment, the weight on his chest lifted. He felt seen, truly seen, in a way he hadn’t thought possible. It was terrifying, yes, but also exhilarating in a way he couldn’t explain.
You didn’t pull your hand away, and he didn’t want you to. The warmth of your touch was steadying, grounding him in the moment. “You know,” you said after a beat, your voice light but tinged with sincerity, “for someone who spends so much time looking for the truth in others, you deserve someone who does the same for you.”
Spencer felt his cheeks flush, the words wrapping around his heart like a protective shield. He’d never been good at letting people in, never good at trusting that they would stay once they saw the mess inside him. But here you were, sitting across from him with a patience and understanding that made him want to believe.
“I don’t know how you do it,” he said softly, his voice barely above a whisper.
“Do what?” you asked, tilting your head slightly, your curiosity genuine.
“Make everything feel…not as,” he hesitated, searching for the right word, “heavy..”
Your smile softened, gently cupping his hand with yours. The quiet act, so simple and tender, made Spencer’s heart race in a way he wasn’t prepared for. He didn't pull back. Instead, he let the moment linger, the warmth of your hand against his, grounding him in a way nothing else had before.
“That’s easy,” you said, your fingers lingering as you trace the bumps on his knuckles, the calluses from years of writing.
“You’re worth it.”
Spencer’s heart skipped again, his pulse thrumming in his ears as he searched your eyes for any trace of insincerity and found none. For the first time in a long while, he didn’t feel the need to retreat, to rebuild the walls you so effortlessly dismantled. Instead, he let himself lean into the moment, into you, even as the fear of the unknown lingered at the edges of his mind.
Because somehow, with you, the unknown didn’t seem so daunting. It felt… manageable.
.
.
Maybe even a little beautiful.

This is why streaming is dying.
I'm Canadian, and I used to watch Star Trek on Crave. Crave saved us for awhile from the fracturing of the streaming landscape because it stayed as an umbrella service for quite some time. I used to get Star Trek, HBO, WB shows, Starz, Sony stuff...basically Hulu + HBO + Paramount. That was actually worth it because for the same monthy fee I could get House of the Dragon, Star Trek and more.
But that wasn't going to last forever. When Paramount+ launched in Canada, Star Trek got taken off Crave. I'm a huge Star Trek fan but even I couldn't justify a FIFTH streaming service just for Trek.
So I waited until Discovery was finished. And then I binged it and season 4 of Lower Decks. And then I cancelled. I won't get it again until S3 of Strange New Worlds and Season 4 of Lower Decks are finished, then I'll binge and cancel again.
There is literally nothing else on P+ I want to watch. I looked, because if there was something I'd cancel Netflix for a bit. But it's all movies I've seen and don't want to rewatch, shows I already have access to on other streamers, or things I have no interest in.
When the networks were working together to put lots of tasty treats under one streamer, it was absolutely worth it. I'd pay $20 a month for Crave if HBO kept making good shows (instead of cancelling them, RIP Our Flag Means Death) and if P+ had lots of Trek (and...didn't keep cancelling those shows like they did Lower Decks and Discovery.) Between that and Trek that would mean I always had a show releasing on the platform that I wanted to watch.
As long as there isn't a steady diet of things that appeal to me, I WILL keep subscribing, binging, and cancelling. Churn is the reason these networks aren't profitable. But there is literally no incentive for me to NOT do that when the things I want to watch are scattered across 5-6 different streamers, each charging $15+ a month.
In trying to get their slice of the pie, the networks have guaranteed there isn't enough food on their buffet to keep people coming back for more.
It creates a vicious cycle. This fracturing means there's not enough budget to support the flagship shows/franchises. Then, they get cancelled and/or budget reduced. So they take away or vastly reduce the thing I want to watch the most.
PLUS none of the networks are nurturing the cult hits/franchises of the future. Shows that have the potential to be the reason I subscribe are being cut off at the knees after virtually no promotion.
I watch every new show like Dead Boy Detectives knowing there is a very high likelihood that this will be the only season I'll get to watch. So much potential is left on the table. If there were four or more shows like Dead Boy Detectives and Kaos getting ongoing commitments from Netflix I wouldn't even consider cancelling my subscription. Instead, I know that any show that isn't an immediate cultural moment is probably getting the axe, or getting two seasons, max. Especially if it's SF&F. Especially if it's queer.
We live in the world where even the critically-acclaimed and franchise-based House of the Dragon is getting truncated episode runs and reduced support.
Regardless of how you feel about how Game of Thrones ended, that franchise is a cultural juggernaut. House of the Dragon is legitimately good and packed with talent. The rough patches of Season 2 can be easily traced back to reduced budgets/cut episode run at the last minute that forced the production team to scramble and adapt.
Honestly. Is there anyone actually committing to their series other than FX, AMC, and Amazon with Rings of Power? Although RoP can also be considered a sunk cost fallacy since Amazon invested a SHIT TON into the IP and the series, so they need it to work. They also have a wobbly track record supporting other shows. (I will never forgive them for cancelling A Leage of Their Own.)
FX and AMC are the only networks that feel like they're actually supporting their content. And what do you get for that? Shogun, one of the best shows in recent memory. The show absolutely swept awards season (and rightfully so) and is now setting itself up to be a tentpole show in the mold of such classics of the historical fiction genre like Deadwood, The Tudors, and Rome.
Interview With the Vampire, is an AMC show which has a very active and passionate fandom eager for more of it and Anne Rice's Immortal Universe. This is a rare example of a new franchise (albeit based on an existing, well-know IP) is really finding its feet and its audience. The audience for it is not of the size of something like House of the Dragon, but AMC is feeding the audience it does have unapologetically, with queer camp horror full of messy, toxic relationships.
Then there's What We Do in the Shadows, which seems to be ending on its own terms this year. FX is a Disney subsidary which somehow manages to commit to the series it creates, which proves it can still be done.
I do hope that FX and AMC continues to support their weird and wonderful shows, and I hope they keep getting rewarded for it with high ratings and awards so that the rest of the networks will smarten up.
If we hadn't just come out of a golden age of streaming where every network was producing excellent TV, all of this heavy cancellation and fragmentation wouldn't be quite so devastating.
Entertainment seems like it's constantly in a feast or famine churn. Right now, we're careening toward famine, which is full of one-season shows, overextended franchises, flagship shows being cut/restrained and a whole lot of cheap dreck.
It's the reality TV heyday all over again and I hate it.

The 1st anniversary of this blog was September 5th!
I've been so busy I forgot to post something on the day of, so I hope you all can forgive me for the delay.
I'd like to say thank you to everyone who has participated in the events, followed this blog, and even joined the discord within this last year. It has been a joy putting events together, getting to see everyone's creativity on display, reblogging each and every amazing post, and promoting other events in the star trek community.
It has been so amazing to get to know dozens of the 321 people who have started following this blog. I hope to get to know even more of you over the course of this next year!
My plan is to keep this all going for as long as possible! I already have a list of ideas for events for 2025. Though some require a bit of assistance. Sadly I am only one person and I have my own limitations. Look out for a post regarding assisting the blog and future events soon!
A new post will go out celebrating the 1st anniversary of the discord on November 19th. If you haven't join yet I definitely recommend it.

I feel like talking about Kira Nerys.
She is definitely one of the all time greatest Star Trek characters, and an absolute triumph of character development and payoff. She was a terrorist, she is absolutely open and unapologetic over that fact. Her planet was under a brutal, genocidal imperialist occupation and she did whatever was necessary to frustrate the Cardassians and eventually expel them from Bajor. She starts the series with that initial, momentary victory- the Cardassians have retreated, the resistance- now Bajorian militia have captured Terok Nor, but she barely gets to enjoy it for the day before Bajor's new provisional government decides to invite Starfleet to run the space station, wanting to set up their slow, eventual ascension to the Federation. And she's PISSED. Her literal first scene is arguing with her superiors before reluctantly handing over the commander's office to newly arrived Benjamin Sisko, and while that resentment slowly fades as Sisko shows overwhelmingly that he wants to be the best advocate possible for Bajor, it remains even as he is revealed to be the Emissary, Bajor's literal messiah. Kira never ceases in her struggle to see Bajor truly independent and thriving, even when it comes into conflict with her own conflicted moral code, something she had to adopt while fighting the Cardassians, but is ill equipped to handle the nuances they now have to face. This even eventually leads her to rebel, if briefly, against her own government, because she eventually decides her allegiance is to the Bajorans she fought to liberate, not Bajor the planet, or political entity.
And then there's Kira's complicated, evolving relation to the former Cardassian occupiers. It's easy to understand why she would paint them all with the same brush, they were genocidal, unforgiving, claiming to do what they did in some deluded idea that they were "helping" Bajor. But very quickly events transpire that shake her previously black and white beliefs about them.
What can I even say about "Duet" that hasn't already been said? Being confronted with a Cardassian who was so traumatized by what he witnessed his own people doing to the Bajorans that he pretended to be the very Gul who ordered the killings just so he could beg the Bajorans to put him on trial and execute him! It's such a shocking reveal that it turns Kira from eagerly wanting to put him to the death, to weeping over his murder by the very kind of revenge obsessed Bajoran she started out as.
I still cry over Marritza's confession. And the worst thing was, he was absolutely right. He knew that if Cardassia didn't own up to the crimes they had committed that they would eventually be destroyed, and he was proven right as Gul Dukat's irredentist views led him to ally with the Dominion, which ended up nearly destroying Cardassia in the long run. She even finds it in her heart to welcome Ghemor as a surrogate father figure after the time spent thinking she might actually be his daughter, and fully accept that he was trying to atone both for his own actions and that of Cardassia's, eventually burying him on Bajor next to her own father. She also ends up being confronted with the consequences of her zealotry by Silarin Prin, just a humble, innocent servant who was horribly disfigured by a bombing of a prominent Gul that Kira was involved in. And yet, she's able to recognize that while what she did was not an absolute good, fully justified by what the Bajorans were subjected to, she doesn't denounce her old self and her activities. She doesn't forgive, or forget, and that goes for both her actions, and the Cardassians. That's why she was the perfect person to help the Cardassian resistance against the Dominion, because like Marritza said, to save Cardassia, they have to change, and admit that what they did was wrong. Even Garak, who is really never shown to be that remorseful over his past activities acknowledges this when Kira points out to Damar that his family being executed by the Dominion was no different from Cardassia executing the families of Bajoran freedom fighters. "Yeah, Damar, what kind of people give those orders?" Her character came full circle, and that's why it was perfect to end the series with her finally, fully taking over command of DS9.
She'll always be one of the greatest of all time.

You know who’d be very comforting and supportive of dolly? Beast. He’s a very gentle man and I think when dolly is having a panic attack whilst logan is away he’s somehow there and able to calm her down. He probably offers the best tea or hot chocolate for anyone.

Chapter summary: Past Hank McCoy offers guidance to Dolly. Present. Dolly should be doing better... why isn't she?
**********
Before
"Thank you so much, Dr. McCoy. i greatly appriciate the help. I promise, I know my stuff, it's just lesson planning for a group is so much different than for a handful of kids of different ages."
Hank McCoy lays out a large notebook on his desk in his office, careful not to knock over the tea he set out for you.
"It's not problem at all, you are taking these classes off my hands, after all. And please, call me Hank. Dr. McCoy makes me sound like I'm in Star Trek." You didn't get that joke.
You knew what Star Trek was, but never saw it, so you just smiled. "Unfortunately, it's a habit I just can't seem to break. I know Mr. Summers is put off by my formality as well."
"I'm sure it's a welcome change from Logan's nick names." Dr. McCoy chuckles softly. You didn't know who Logan was, but there were some people you had yet to meet. "You seem to be okay calling Remy by his name?"
Your smile broadens at that. "I guess you're right." Remy was different though. You couldn't imagine refering to that jovial man as "mr. lebeau". He'd probably laugh at the idea. Even using Mr. Wagner made the impish young man you met last week smirk a little, but he was too kind to say anything.
Dr. McCoy was also understanding of your... strange habits. "Well, whatever you're comfortable with."
"Thank you. You'll have to forgive me. My life before her was..." You shift uncomfortably. "Different. Difficult in a lot of ways" An understatement.
He nods. "I figured."
This makes you laugh. "Is it that obvious?"
"Not necessarily." he is quick to reassure you. "I'm sure you're aware there are... certain things that make you stand out." How you dress. How you do your hair. How you talk. How you are so painfully shy that at almost a month here you've only gotten to know Remy, and that was only by Remy's persistence. You knew people talked about you. You knew people talked about you, and that was okay. You were the weird new girl. It was nothing new to you. "Charles has a penchant for finding strays. I assume he didn't just pick out any non mutant to come into his school, be around his children. You'd have to be someone with extreme compassion and a deep desire to help people. People like that are have usually seen things."
And you had. God, you had. And because of that, you never wanted these students, these children who'd already suffered so much, to suffer more. You wanted to be someone for them that showed no, not all humans hated them.
You clear your throat, feeling a little emotional with the kindness that has been shown to you at this school. You go back to the lesson plans, where you would be taking over the English and literature department so Dr. McCoy could focus on the classes he actually preferred. "Thank you. Um, is this the freshman level English?"
After
"I'm sure it's here somewhere..." Dr. McCoy was searching through his bookshelf, trying to find a book you had asked to barrow.
"It's alright if you don't have it, Logan can take me to the bookstore-"
"No, no, no, I have it here... Ah!" His movements were quick, too quick for you as he reached behind you to the book shelf, right near your head.
You gasp, flinching away. The rest that happened was purely physical, unable to stop yourself as your legs gave out, dropping your knees as you try to cover your face. As you lay there, the silence hung heavy in the air, tension thick enough to cut with a knife. You wait for pain that would never come. You knew it, deep down you knew Dr. McCoy was a gentle soul, but hadn't you thought that of Logan? You couldn't untangle yourself, bracing for pain or for him to force himself on you. Instead, all he did was kneel down.
"It's alright, I'm not going to hurt you..."
But when you finally drop your hands from your face, you're having a panic attack. Hank clocks this immediately, carefully taking your hand in his and easing you from your knees to your bottom. he chastely pinches the edge of your skirt to cover your upper thighs, a move purely for your own dignity.
"Look at me, look at me. You're having a panic attack. I know it's scary, but there isn't anything wrong with you or your baby, you just need to breath through it. Breath with me, okay?"
Wide-eyes, you nod. You breath in when he squeezes your hand and breath out when he lets go. In. Out. In. Out.
Finally, when you calm down, you swallow hard and try to regain composer. You straighten your dress and tuck hair behind your ear, all while avoiding his eyes.
"I- I'm sorry sorry, I don't know what came over me..."
"Seems to me like PTSD."
Your eyes flash to him. "I don't have PTSD. If you're implying Logan hurt me-" you quickly realize your mistake when Dr. McCoys blue eyebrows pinch together.
"I didn't say anything about Logan."
Anxious again, you move to stand up, rejecting the hand he offered to help and using the bookshelves to brace yourself up. "Sorry. it's just... Mr. Summers has been on a smear campaign against my fiancé." I've just been on edge.
Nodding, he looks unconvinced. "I was hoping that now that you and Logan worked things out again, your mental health would improve."
"it has." What more did they want from you? You smiled again. You had more friends than just Remy now, you didn't spend all your time alone when Remy was out anymore! You had Logan, you had Ororo and Emma, you even had been getting to know Logan's very strange but very nice friend, Wade. You laughed and spent time in the sunshine now that the New England air was finally warming... Sure you were plagued with horrific nightmares, sure sudden movements sent you into panic attacks, sure you constantly fretted over you and your babies safety future and sometimes when Logan and you made love you had flashbacks to when he- but he was good to you. When you didn't want sex, he didn't force himself on you. He took care of you. he was the soft, gentle Logan you knew before... so why couldn't you trust it?
Clearly, he didn't believe you but he didn't wish to push you. "Come," He beckons you. "let's find Logan. You took a fall, we should get you checked out."
Telling Logan what happened, of course, lead to Logan shouting at Dr. McCoy for spooking you, and you quickly admonish him for speaking that way to a college who was nothing but kind. Logan's temper... You were fine, your baby was fine... but you couldn't help the sinking feeling in the pit of your stomach that it was all just slipping away...

I really like Kira Nerys. Let's discuss her and organized religion A hothead, experienced freedom fighter, child soldier, passionate, kind, really good at self-control. In [DS9 S01E19: Duet], she learns that life can be complex and difficult and ultimately learns to forgive Marritza. She learns that hate has to end at some point to make peace. But there is one aspect of Kira that I always find unnerving: Her absolute blind spot when it comes to faith. And DS9's handling of organized religion. 01. Bajoran Culture and Cultures in Star Trek Because Kira is the Bajoran character we see most, and the only fleshed out character where "being Bajoran" is a major character trait, we mostly experience the culture through her. Yes there's Leeta, but there is just a single instance where it plays into the story that she's Bajoran. [DS9 S05E20: Ferengi Love Songs]. Leeta wants a Bajoran wedding, while Rom tries to hold onto what's left of his Ferengi identity. Rom ultimately lets go of all the Ferengi stuff. Good for him. Of course there is also Kai Winn, but her stories mostly circle about her being Kai Winn, not her being a Bajoran. There is a single instance here too, where her Bajoran identity plays into the story, and her past during the Occupation. ([DS9: S05E10 Rapture]) She explains that she teached the faith of the prophets and was imprisoned for it. The other Bajoran characters are less fleshed out characters. Shakaar, Lupaza, and Furel. Even Li Nalasm remember him? Ro Laren is there of course, but her job was to create conflict in the perfect world of the Enterprise-D. Not being Bajoran, primarily. Star Trek does this more than once. Experiencing a whole culture through a single character. For a long time, Spock was the only fleshed out Vulcan we got to see, besides one episode with Sarek. Plus Sarek in the movies. It took decades until Tuvok showed us more than Spock's perspective. And ENT with T'Pol and the Vulcans arc finally fleshed out the species more. Jadzia is the only Trill that matters. Kind of a one trick pony species. The people with the symbiotes. And when Ezri finally shows up, we learn a bit more about them when they're not centered about their symbiotes. Cardassia is a good counter-example: We have Dukat, Damar and Garak to show us Cardassian culture from various perspectives. Plus the Tribunal episode, TNG's torture of Picard ("There are four lights!") We learn a lot about Cardassia. The DS9 treatment of the Ferengi will always be top notch.
02. Kira and Religion So back to Bajor, Kira and religion. Hehe, Bajor Kira. Sorry. As a non-religious man, I have my problems sharing her point of view. Trusting in faith, even when it contradicts rationality. There are two main storylines that illuminate this problem: 1. [DS9: S04E17 Accession] 2. Kira's relationship with Kai Winn. In Accession, Akorem Laan takes over the job as Emissary and installs himself as a conservative, even reactionary, religious leader. Bajorans are told to follow their d'jarras. A caste system. And Kira as our PoV Bajoran, simply....does it. Her D'jarra is Ih'valla, the artists caste. She actually had to struggle with this before. In [DS9: S02E02 The Circle] she tried living in the monastery with Bareil. She tells him she sucks at being an artist. Kira really tried. So when Akorem takes over the religious leadership (maintaining a good working relationship with Kai Winn, what a red flag), Kira shows us how Bajor reacts. They simply.....comply? Odo even tries out the sceptical, rational PoV. Kira just brushes it aside. DS9 does this a few times, actually. Respecting their characters' choices rooted in faith. Odo fighting Weyoun calling him a god on every occasion. Worf and Kira agreeing on Sisko's choice of trusting the Prophets in [DS9: S05E10: Rapture]. Weyoun 6's sacrifice. Even Quark's little prayers to his piggybank. What I really dislike about the plot of Accession is the Deus Ex Machina. The characters are not confronted with their choices. Akorem Laan and Vedek Porta don't go to jail for murdering some guy. Kira doesn't have to deal with supporting a regime that got opressive in a heartbeat. What I would have really liked to see were the Bajorans that disagree. The ones Akorem threatens with deportation. Sorry, our 45 minutes are up, the Prophets endorse The Sisko, Akorem is gone. Kira even still likes his poetry! Yay! Pity. I would have loved to see the consequences. And see if Kira finds a way to deal with blind obedience. Which brings me to my second point. 03. Kira Nerys and Kai Winn
While Gul Dukat is mainly Sisko's antagonist, Kai Winn is Kira's. She basically killed Kira's boyfriend, cashed in on his accomplishments and literally stole his fame, after she cheated her way to becoming Space Pope. Which would have been him. Bareil. Interesting side story: Bareil does the same thing Kira does. He blindly trusts the religious system. Bareil doesn't question Kai Winn's authority. Well, then she kills him by overworking him, and he lets her. Gladly. He decides to get killed. Because he trusts the Prophets. There's another side question here. Are the Prophets to be trusted? Are they doing good things for Bajor? or are they selfish? I basically think they're selfish af, and I can explain. But that's a story for another time.
So Kai Winn did a terrorism in [S01E20: In the Hands of the Prophets], gets people killed, supports an insurrection (but to be honest, her support never got public), cheats herself to be Pope, nearly starts a civil war because of Shakaar. Kira is in a powerful position. She is one of the most trusted advisors to the Emissary of the Prophets, is an administrator of DS9, was a member of the famed Shakaar Resistance Cell. She obviously has power. Military power, political power. She knows how to play politics. There is a dialogue about this in [DS9 S01E13: "Battle Lines] And she obviously knows Kai Winn is horrible. Dangerous. When does she talk back? Once. She does it once. In [DS9 S02E24: The Collaborateur], she is snarky and gets scolded by Winn. She never openly defies her again. Kira is complicit with a religious organisation that constantly punishes her for it. That would force her into a career she hates. That killed her boyfriend and robbed his dead body. Kai Winn even gloats over it a few episodes later. And in Accession, we see the climax of this: Even when the religious regime gets captured by bad people, she complies. 04: Fazit I would have loved to see Kira deal with the contradictions. See people who don't comply with Kai Winn's church. Who challenge that system. Because like in our world, organisations can and will be captured by bad players, in bad faith. The ability of political structures to withstand capture and abuse is essential. This always starts with the people being able to recognize it and fight back. I don't like it. I'm more like Odo. Rational, naturalistic. I don't understand how one can think with religious faith. Especially because Kira has such a temper and a sense for injustice. She challenges Winn from within the system, yes. With Shakaar. For a while. Then Shakaar loses steam as a character and we don't delve further into the matter. Simply DS9 having enough depth to allow such discussions about their characters is one if the reasons I love it so much. Stay safe out there, people. Stay vigilant in the face of powerful people. Thank you for reading.

What do you say about 2 most despised characters in the fandom: Andre the Ice Cream Man and Thomas’s self-insert?
Are they the most despised characters? I feel like that honor goes to more prevalent characters like Gabriel, Lila, or André Bourgeois, but I could be wrong. Either way, my thoughts on the two you asked about are as follows:
Andre the Ice Cream Man
Andre reminds me of the weeping angels from Dr. Who. Great - or in this case fine - initial concept, but the more they show up, the less sense they make because the rules keep changing.
If we go by his initial appearance, then he's just some guy who can magically sense who you're supposed to be with and who gives you ice cream to point you to them. That's a cute concept for a rom-com. I can even accept him getting akumatized when he first shows up because, if you're a magical match maker who delights in love, then it makes sense that you'd be sad to see someone giving up on love even if it's just a teenager being dramatic. Those feelings are still quite real plus this show is aimed at little kids. They're going to view Marinette's heartbreak more seriously than an adult audience.
Unfortunately, every subsequent appearance ruins the initial setup by changing Andre's rules, turning him into a pretty obnoxious character. If he can sense perfect matches, then why does Marichat set him off? Shouldn't he be able to sense that this is a perfect match? And why didn't Adrigami set him off in the season three final? They got ice cream without him throwing a fit while Marichat was refused service once and caused an akumatization another time! That makes no sense. Does this man sense true matches or just support whatever couple comes to see him? And what happened to the whole, "anyone who eats his ice cream together stays together forever" thing? Consistency matters, people! Pick a lane! Obnoxious shipper who can't take a hint or true magical match maker. Which is he?
Based on his initial appearance and rules, Andre should be the only person in Paris who knows the truth of the square right from the start. If they'd done that, then he could have been a fun character that was used to subtly push the square together and give them an odd feeling of hope in dark moments where their love is wavering. After all, who doesn't love ice cream when nursing a broken heart? It could have been a cute running gag where Andre shows up with ice cream every time a part of the square is moping. Instead we get whatever nonsense canon is doing with him because even the super minor characters suffer from how wildly inconsistent canon is.
I'll end the Andre discussion by saying that I'm not sure if I'll ever forgive the writers for having Andre be the one to out Marinette's crush on Adrien. Five seasons of waiting and that's it? That's the big reveal? You are not getting me hyped for the actual big reveal, guys. Between this and the what-if episodes always making someone look terrible, my feelings about the eventual square reveal are basically just low-key dread. Thank goodness there are so many solid reveals in the fandom to give me the satisfaction I crave!
Thomas’s self-insert
Confession time, I didn't know that this was a self-insert when I watched this episode. I thought that Thomas' character was just a gag about how most people don't really know what directors do because that is certainly a thing. The fine details of individual roles in the entertainment industry are kind of nebulous to industry outsiders. We can see this in the fact that people often attribute way too much power to individuals and ignore how many people are involved in making movies and TV shows.
One of my favorite stories about this is the fact that a Star Trek writer had his episode win a Hugo only for him to completely disavow the episode because they changed his script so much after he turned it in. This is not a unique story, btw. Stuff like this happens all the time. It's why I've mentioned that I use "writers" as a bit of a catch-all term for "anyone who effects the story telling" for simplicity's sake. Though I will note that, outside of season one, every season of Miraculous was written by a team. Members of that team are then credited as directors, so these guys have a lot more powers than the guy who won the Hugo. The guy who won the Hugo won it because Star Trek was apparently being run like Miraculous was in season one when the show was written by a bunch of different writers who just sold scripts for individual episode and those scripts then got worked into a final version by a smaller core team. Film is a complicated industry like that.
Anyway, back to the character question!
I now know that this was a self-inset, but it doesn't really change my initial feelings about the episode. All of the problems come from Marinette's writing, not Thomas' self-insert character. I'm actually not sure why his character gets so much hate. As far as bad self-inserts go, it was pretty tame. I'm not sure if I'd even call it bad. Thomas wasn't painted as a god or anything like that. He was the butt of a running joke that I didn't find very funny, but I do think that it indicates a level of humility to let your self-insert be seen as less than perfect. He doesn't even take credit for being both a writer and a director:
Jagged: Ladybug is one of my best buds! I can't wait to see her movie! Thomas: Well I'm— I'm the director, so actually it's more my movie, so to speak. Jagged: Oh, so you're the one who created the story? Thomas: Well, technically the screen writers wrote the story, inspired by Ladybug's exploits. Jagged: Oh, ok. So you did all the drawings? Thomas: No, no. The animators do all the drawings. Jagged: So what do you do then? Thomas: Well I—
Now that I know that this character is a self-insert, also I find this moment at the end a lot more cute:
Thomas:(after seeing the conversation) You know what. Take my seat and enjoy the movie. I've seen it ten times or more. What matters the most for the movie is to be seen by people who really want to see it right? Marinette: (stutters) But... I-I... Uh... But... Thomas: Sorry, I guess you don't know who I am either Marinette: Of course do. You're Thomas Astruc the movie director! (hugs him) Oh thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you! Thomas: She recognized me. Somebody actually recognized me! (wipes away tears) This is the best day of my life!
I may not like major elements of this dude's show, but I really don't see this as an ego trip. I see it as a nice moment between creator and creation, possibly because I got to view the episode without any biases when I first watched it. I'm not sure if knowing the full story would have changed my read, though, because I really do think that it's fine for writers and directors to put themselves in minor roles in their creation. You have to come up with so many characters for a story like this, why not let a random akuma be based on you?
To give you a little perspective, the head writers of the show RWBY both voice characters in the show. Once again, I have no problem with that, especially since RWBY didn't have the massive budget you need in order to hire a bunch of voice actors. The thing that I do judge them for is the fact that both of their characters get unnecessary romance plots with major characters. One of the writer's characters - a guy named Jaune - even gets an obnoxious amount of screen time to the point where he feels like more of a main character than some of the actual main characters.
This whole video analyzing that show is excellent and may be worth a watch even if you've never watched RWBY because it plays with some of the same general genres as Miraculous and suffers from some similar writing problems, but I'll give you two specific time links to parts that talk about the self-insert problem so that you can see what I mean if you'd like a little more context:
youtube
youtube
The RWBY issue is the kind of setup where finding out that it's an author self-insert makes me uncomfortable. These two characters have some pretty clear writing problems, so learning that they're also self-inserts? Not a great look. It makes it feel like the writers were prioritizing their self-insert characters over telling a good story. That's not what we got in Miraculous so Thomas' character seriously doesn't phase me. I doubt it would phase most salters if the overall show was actually good.

Star Trek Voyager Episode where the crew interacts with a species wherein only married couples can be respected captain-first officer duos and so Janeway has to be pretend to be married to Chakotay in order to cut a deal. Neelix suggests this, saying that's actually how most people do it - even amongst that species themselves. A lot of marriages of convenience even as they all pretend to be deeply in love. However, the day they're supposed to be beamed down Janeway wakes up in Tuvok's body and vice versa. It's decided that Tuvok will go down instead. On the planet, Tuvok quickly shows that he's able to act exactly like Janeway to an almost uncanny degree (funny bc it's just Janeway's actor acting normally). Tuvok explains it's because he's extremely well acquainted with her, it isn't difficult to imagine what she'd think, how she'd act, in most situations. (This is related to Tuvok keeping 'detailed notes' on Janeway but not mentioned in episode). He and Chakotay have a lot of tension between them because Tuvok keeps verbally poking at him whenever he's not acting as Janeway and they have a bad history with undercover work between them. This eventually culminates in a large argument RIGHT before they have to do a dinner wherein everyone in attendance looks into their partner's eyes and talks about why they love them. Uh oh! Chakotay goes first after Tuvok pauses for a suspiciously long time when he's called upon to do it (mix of not knowing how Janeway would do this particular thing & the recent argument). Though he's ostensibly talking about his feelings for Janeway it's obvious to the audience and Tuvok that he's actually talking to Tuvok about how his actions hurt Chakotay but he wants to move forward and try to get along because that's his responsibility. He knows Tuvok is extraordinarily competent at his job but can't help thinking about how much better they'd be able to work as a team if he didn't fight against him so much. Chakotay's in a new and difficult situation too. He wishes Tuvok wouldn't make it harder. In the past [the Maquis] they worked together so well - he's willing to try with him to get back to that. Is Tuvok? When it's finally Tuvok's turn he does the same, apologizing for how he's been acting toward Chakotay and is even able to (through speaking as Janeway) bring up slightly more emotional things he's going through such as jealousy and loneliness. Then he reaffirms (as Janeway) and affirms for the first time (as Tuvok) that there's no one on board better suited to the role of first officer than Chakotay and they're fortunate to have him. He hopes that he might earn Chakotay's forgiveness and believes that with effort they can repair what's happened between them. It is a stark contrast to the extremely flowery, grandiose, and yet somehow generic declarations of love everyone else has given throughout the dinner and for a moment all is quiet. Then the head of the table stands and gestures for the two of them to brought a rose - signaling that they've been recognized as allies. "That," the head says gravely, nodding. "Is love." On the way back to Voyager they receive news that after several twists and turns wherein like everybody got body swapped for a while they've got a surefire way to swap back! Chakotay and Tuvok bicker briefly about something mundane and Chakotay brings up what they said to each other on the planet. Tuvok insists he was speaking as Janeway. Chakotay disengages, sighing. He thought they might actually be able to move past this. After a brief silence Chakotay brings up that it's sort of a shame he never got to swap with anyone. Feels like he missed out. Tuvok is quiet before saying he believes Chakotay is perfectly fine as-is. Chakotay looks at him. Tuvok doesn't meet his gaze. Chakotay smiles softly, turning away. Zoom out as the shuttle enters Voyager, roll credits. [Patreon | Commissions]

Thanks to @lisbeth-kk for tagging me.
Fic Writer's Meme
How many works do you have on ao3?
I have 28! 18 in Sherlock, 6 in Star Trek: Voyager, and 4 Good Omens.
What’s your total word count?
182,614, a majority of which is Kinesis, but as a person who has always struggled with completing things, the 100,000+ words that aren't Kinesis are a real victory in my head.
What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
Kinesis (Mystrade), The Interrogation of Anthony Crowley, Witch (Ineffable husbands co-written with @mevima), Avast Ye Merry Gentlemen (Johnlock Christmas), The Bold and the Bruised (Mystrade 360MG), Atonement (Janeway/Chakotay post-series reconciliation).
Do you respond to comments? Why/why not?
Absolutely! I love comments. If I haven't responded to a comment it's only because life has been eating my brain and I will get to it once I've recovered.
What's the fic you've written with the angstiest ending?
Probably All the Time it Takes to Wait, which is titled after a song I played obsessively at the time while I was dreaming up the scenario of Chakotay actually getting to have feelings about the whole Fair Haven disaster. Nothing is resolved but they have it out. The song is angsty and so is the fic.
What's the fic you've written with the happiest ending?
It's gotta be Kinesis. Not to overhype, but the ending is pretty satisfying and joyful.
Do you write crossovers?
I have the outline of a Sherlock/Star Trek crossover in my WIP pile.
Have you ever received hate on a fic?
No, but I can't wait. Bring it on, internet. I love an argument. I love to analyze the fears and insecurities of people who start fights on the internet over free content lovingly created and bravely posted. I am unhinged and ruthless.
Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
Hell yes. Smut has been an essential part of my recovery from religion, both the reading and writing of. Smut is so revealing of a character's motivations, their vulnerabilitites, their desires. I think it's a marvellous thing.
Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Not to my knowledge. If so, I'd rather not know.
Have you ever had a fic translated?
No.
Have you ever co-written a fic before?
Yes, the aforementioned The Interrogation of Anthony Crowley, Witch was so much fun to write with @mevima. It was way outside my comfort zone, kinkier and darker than anything else I've written.
What's your all-time favourite ship?
Johnlock and Mystrade are forever duking it out in my head. I also love Ed and Stede's speedrun enemies-to-besties-to-lovers dynamic in OFMD.
What's a WIP that you want to finish but don't think you ever will?
Never say never, right? I have another long one that could be a Good Omens AU set in Toronto in the early 90s. Because it's last on my list of long fics, I don't know when I'm going to get to it. Also all the garbage behaviour of a certain writer/creator has really sapped my enthusiasm for writing in the fandom right now. I had a thought to turn it into an OFMD fic but I'm not sure if or when I'll get around to it.
What are your writing strengths?
Dialogue is my friend. If I get stuck in a scene, I just make the characters talk and it helps me move on. Comes from a background in writing plays.
What are your writing weaknesses?
Endings! Spare me from having to finish anything. I get burnt out and distracted easily but I'm learning to manage it. I look forward to the times when the story really flows, but since most days are not like that, it's about finding ways to write the next 5, 10, 500 words.
What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?
Like so many things, I don't think there should be hard and fast rules about what writers can and cannot do. For me, I'd be inclined to check with a native speaker if I can find one, but keeping in mind that this is not a professional venture, I think foreign dialogue in fic is a "do your best and be forgiving" venture.
That said, if a writer chooses not to get a native speaker to weigh in on their usage and they get comments like "Hey you bum. Don't use google translate for this!" we have to be willing to take our lumps and seize the opportunity: "My hero! Will you look at the rest of my dialogue for me?" Fandom is about connection building.
What was the first fandom you wrote for?
My first creative writing project in first grade was an origin story for a talking boot puppet in a horrifying Canadian children's program called Readalong. But I had no idea what a fanfic was at the time.
My first intentional fanfic might have been an unpublished Sailor Moon or Mulder/Scully fic that may live on in a hard drive somewhere.
First fic on AO3 is actually poetry called Not a Romance about what Kathryn Janeway was thinking after the episode Resolutions.
What's a fandom/ship you haven't written for yet but want to?
Our Flag Means Death. Probably Ed/Stede but there are so many great characters, it might be hard to choose.
What's your favourite fic you've written?
Kinesis. It's the fic I've always wanted to write. It has some of my favourite vibes. And I derived great joy from firing Mycroft Holmes.

Regarding #465: No, there shouldn’t be more fat people shown in star trek/starfleet. Showing fat ppl in the future isn’t body positivity. Currently, the food industry is screwing us and we are fat due to that mainly. Fat ppl exist only in rich capitalist countries with the social fabric in tatters. We are massively struggling with anxiety and stress and using screen n food addiction as a coping mechanism, making us more fat. In the future, we would have overcome all these problems. Truly nutritious food isn’t addictive and it’s impossible to grow fat on it. Ppl would be healthy, happy and have a ‘range’ of body types sure, but fatness is not a body type.
I am so upset about this that I ended up blocking yesterday's queue cold-turkey.
People should have a range of body types just as long as it's not fat? This is not future body positivity, this is plain and simple fatphobia and I don't need any of your transparent disgust of fat people in my blog, implying that all fat people are, either or in combination, poor, miserable, mentally struggling, etc.
It's also rather telling that you couldn't conceive that some people love being fat, and don't want to lose weight even if they could.
If in the future we will have good food and no capitalism and good enough medicine to eradicate obesity-related issues like bad cholesterol and such (crew forgive my ignorance on the matter), fat people would prosper because doctors and fatphobes would lose the ace card you played here that they love so much: that fatness is in itself a threatening medical condition and, depending on which is more convenient, the root cause or the consequence of countless medical problems that at long turn out to be not really related to body weight at all.
Also, who the fuck cares what really happens in the 23rd century? We won't be here to see what the ideal body type will be by that point. We are speaking representation in the now, not what if scenarios. Fat people don't owe people like you anything because they never let us have anything. They certainly don't owe you the comfort of living in your eugenic-flavored fantasy where nobody has a body shape that upsets you. There are more overweight, fat, and downright obese people than there are thin in this world, and the film industry should fucking grow a spine for once and actually reflect that. Yes, we shouldn't encourage bad eating habits, but that's not what the original confession was talking about. It was about how it's great to see a beautiful, healthy woman whose body weight doesn't take anything from that beauty and that healthiness, and that it would be even greater to see more of those type of characters. You having an issue with that speaks a lot about yourself, and the absolutely disgusting levels of fatphobia in the world.
Fat people deserve and belong in the camera, and in the future. Accept us or turn your screen off.
Footnote that the absolute clown levels it take to say that healthy food cannot make you fat, newsflash asshole, the healthiest, most organic food you can think of will make you fat if you eat it too much too often.
#sigh sorry about this crew#hope i didn't make a fool out of myself#tw fatphobia#trigger warnings#response to confession#confession 465#i went through all 5 expressions in the gif

I'd love to know which of my fics (only one is currently up on ao3) I should prioritize based on what people like most, so I thought I'd leave it up to you guys here! Full descs are under the poll and cut.
Mortalizer: This fic gets deep but when things start to get chaotic outside of Kenny's own crisis, the action really picks up. I have so much plot going for this story and I'm really excited about it lol. Apart from dying, there will be lots of Crenny and Style, lots of character development, interactions with the Goth Kids, interesting disguises, hero-Cartman, friendly kidnapping, climbing through bedroom windows, etc. Currently there are nine chapters up on my AO3 (junkyarddawgz)
Heres the AO3 Desc
Kenny McCormick discovers he's been rejected by death. As denial drives him mad, he begins to toy with his own life- until a series of horrifying crimes remind him that not everyone comes back from the grave. Or... One year ago, Kenny's entire life fell apart, and the new version of it is not worth living. Every time he tries to end it, though, he only wakes up again; alive and with a beating heart. No one even remembers he was ever dead... that he knows of. After weeks of dying almost every day, two new things happen too close together to be coincidence; someone else is dead, and another anonymous someone seems to know Kenny has been too. He hardly even gets a chance to panic before things start to get way worse, and Kenny realizes he might be the only person who can stop whoever is behind it all. (Mysterion vs Serial killer)
Creek Fic (Untitled): When something goes way wrong with young NASA astronaut Craig Tucker's mission Feldspar, he finds himself trapped in an endless solo mission that should only have lasted 28 days. With NASA refusing to keep him in the loop about what the hell is even going on, he is surprised to discover he actually looks forward to those informationless ground-control calls each day. Maybe he just misses human contact, or maybe there really is something more behind his infatuation with that one twitchy, blond ground-control agent.
I wrote that desc just now, but it probably won't be the same one I write in for the eventual AO3 upload. No I don't have an outline or even really a full plot going for this one yet, but I do have a general idea of what it might be. Soooo.... slowburn, angsty, trapped in space Creek fic, anyone?
Children on the Edge of Forever: A tragic spin on the season 2 episode "City on the Edge of Forever" (which is itself titled after a Star Trek episode) in which instead of telling silly stories while they sit in the bus hanging off the edge of a cliff and wait for Miss Crabtree's return, the kids find themselves confessing deep honesties in their last moments before the bus finally gives in to the temptation of gravity. Confessions range from those of love- requited or not, personal identities, crimes, and final forgivenesses. Each chapter is written in the POV of one kid on the bus (I'll be doing about 12 of them) with a final chapter detailing their shared ending.
Yes, they do all die in the end, but that doesn't mean we can't have Style, Creek and Bendy fluff before their final demise lol. I haven't written an official desc yet, but the first chapter should be up before the end of December regardless of poll results (simply because it's already mostly written).
Totally Killer AU (Untitled): This one is based on the 2023 slasher film Totally Killer, which was ALMOST a good movie lol. I decided to make it actually good. Heres the AO3 desc:
When the decade of materialism and Madonna finally began to draw the curtains of a close, three teenagers at South Park high had their lives brought to their own abrupt ends. The face of their killer is never unmasked, slipping away through the cracks of passing time. 35 years later, as the third decade of the century hits a halfway point, a fourth victim is claimed to mark the killer's return. Stan Marsh and Kyle Broflovski find themselves thrown not only in the middle of it all (and maybe even at each other), but also back in time- to the point just before everything first began.
TIME TRAVEL STYLE!!! This one is going to be so good because I'll be writing their parents as teenagers and showing so much background. I feel like fresh characters (or fresh versions of them at least) in a South Park fic is something you rarely see, so I think it will be fun to try and pull off.
Anyway, this fic involves Stan and Kyle working together to try and prevent the first murders from ever happening so as to save the fourth victim from dying in the future. Theres angst and fluff to come no matter who dies lol.
