Where We Are
Pairing: Jason Todd x Reader
A/N: honestly this has been marinating in my mind for a while because a while ago I saw @sunnie-angel post this small writing (linked here) and I wanted to write something for it, but I havenât gotten to sit down and complete something :( BUT i finally sat down and wrote because i needed something as a break from my end of semester stress from school :D i would also recommend reading the linked post first so it gives some context and insight to why i was so drawn to it and how it heavily inspired this fic. ENJOY and like, comment if your comfortable đ
Summary: How do you live with the memories of Jason after his death as Robin?
Tags: AAAANGST, have a nice day :)
Word Count: 1.6k
A boy.
Full of so much life and raw emotion, who stood against the worst of Gotham.
He saw so much of its poison. It struck him, filled his veins, but he fought every day against the pain. Only when he finally left did Gotham return its thanks.
Everyday was torture. The memorials, the photographs, the graffiti. Streets littered with âWe remember you.â Every waking second was a reminder that he was gone.
No more late night chats, meeting at the library, leaning against his shoulder.
You can still taste the bile that consumed your throat when you opened your door to Alfred standing there with the most chilling expression. Once he said your name in such a matter-of-fact tone, you knew. Your heart ached the same way it did when your thoughts brought you back to your worst fears, maybe it ached worse but that memory is buried in the back of your mind.
You slammed the door on Alfred. Grabbing your phone, calling one of the most recent phone numbers in your call history. It rang and rang. Nothing.
You left voicemail after voicemail. Begging, yelling, crying into the ending message to pick up.
You couldnât walk down the road that led to the same library you spent all summer with him. The humid air beating down on you before the air conditioning sent a chill down your back. Scanning your library cards, returning books, letting Jason give you recommendations.
The memory made your eyes water.
You did everything to avoid it all.
Taking the longer path to school, playing music in your ears loud enough to drown out the passerbyâs conversations about how tragic such a thing could happen to a young boy, avoiding any sort of color that matched the suit he was so proud of.
The same one that took him.
The more you avoided, the more the image of him chased you. Billboards, coffee cups, baseball caps. Robin was everywhere.
Until you saw a memorial video that some Gothamite made on social media.
It broke you one more time.
You screamed and screamed until your voice couldnât. He was gone. Your Jason was truly gone.
You couldnât get mad at him cheating at board games, you wouldnât hear his laugh, no more asking him to drop off food while he was on patrol.
The world took the other half that completed you.
When the pain numbed out and you felt the guilt of your actions, you apologized to Alfred. You got back on track for school, the world wasnât better, but it didnât weigh on you as much.
You finally took a walk down the road you didnât dare look down. You held your breath when you crossed over the invisible line, taking you down a familiar path, but with only one pair of shoes on the sidewalk this time.
You walked with your hands clenched, before you found yourself in front of one of the small memorial stands. A tiny Robin keychain stared back at you. You paid the seller with cash and continued on your walk.
The air hung heavy in your lungs as you stopped. Coming face to face with Jasonâs favorite gargoyle that sat in front of the library steps. You fought the tears with lowered eyebrows and a stiff expression to place the key chain on the base of the statue. You grabbed a permanent marker out of your bag to write in big bold letters, âWe Remember You.â
It was sloppy writing, but it captured your unrelenting, unapologetic emotions that Jason had always told you was why he loved being your friend.
As the weeks went by, more tiny Robins appeared on the gargoyle. Flowers were placed and you finally listened to the city mourn your friend.
Eventually you graduated, took a job at the library because you didnât know anything about your future into being a young adult. Life was simple, it was enough.
You finally felt some stability on the anniversary of Jasonâs death before you heard talk of a new Robin. That a replacement had been made.
You were at a rage again.
When times were too tough or when you just didnât know how to handle yourself, you called Jasonâs phone. Leaving voicemails admitting how much you missed him, how mad you were that he couldnât even wait until you were able to beat how many books he checked out at the library, now it wasnât fair to continue the competition by yourself. How mad you were that they didnât retire the Robin suit after he sacrificed everything for it.
You didnât even question how his phone line was still running as long as you could leave more voicemails.
When your rage started to cool, you joined Alfred one morning while the cold air chilled your face. Alfred handed you a hot tea that you refused to take, but Alfred always managed to get his way. It brought a smile to your face when you realized Jason used to do the same thing.
You walked with him down your familiar path to work. Before Alfred could say anything, your body unconsciously walked up to a new park bench. It wasnât worn, but freshly placed with a shiny plaque that you couldnât move your eyes from.
âIn memory of Jason Todd-Wayne, a son who is loved as much as he loved books.â You quietly read.
You couldnât move. You didnât say anything to Alfred as he handed you a handkerchief when you felt the tears drop down your chin. The two of you just stood there, admiring the wood, the brass, and the memories.
When Alfred said his goodbyes, you stayed there. Afraid to sit down, but afraid to leave.
You spent the following anniversary standing next to the bench, next to the one place that was so precious to your childhood. The fear prevented you from taking a seat.
By the next anniversary, you managed to sit on the bench. Alfred visited again, shining the plaque and wiping down the park bench. You didnât say much, but it was comfortable and breathing wasnât that difficult that year.
By the most recent anniversary, you were starting to spend every important milestone at Jasonâs bench. When you got your degree in library science, you sat with your cap and gown. When you got a job promotion at the library, you came to sit and watch the sunset.
Life was content as you passed Jasonâs bench and gargoyle on your way to and from work. It was a part of you.
One late night as you locked up the library, making sure all the part-timers and volunteers made their way out safely and secured the doors, you said goodbye to your coworkers as you made your way down the worn steps.
Your feet ached from the new shoes that didnât support you enough, but your walk back to your apartment would be short to endure the pain. The fatigue could wait until you walked through the front door.
You trudged through the familiar path, passing the same trees, shops, gargoyle. Fifteen paces, another thirty, but you couldnât continue to count your steps when you saw someone facing Jasonâs bench.
A tall man, large build, covered in a large hoodie with the hood raised. Only a couple strands of hair stuck out the opening, but you couldnât see a clear face.
It was eerie how still the figure was, the small fog of breaths were the only indicator that the person was living.
You quickly moved to the edge of the sidewalk as you distanced yourself from the large man. You held your breath as you briskly walked passed, but a small ache hit your chest. A tiny feeling, so minuscule that you tried to talk yourself into not looking back.
Why would you do that late at night in Gotham?
Two paces, five paces. You paused and turned your head over your shoulder.
They were gone. Only a clear yellow street light shining down on Jasonâs bench.
Weird.
But you werenât going to find out what that was. You paced back to your apartment, throwing your jacket off, letting your aching muscles relax on the couch. You sighed as you couldnât get the figure out of your head.
By the morning, you woke up early to get some breakfast on your way to work. A quick drink and some food to help give you some energy. You said âGood morningâ to the owners, passed by other early commuters.
You held your warm drink, breathing in morning air and taking your breakfast to-go, until you sat at Jasonâs bench. It had been a while since you got to enjoy a meal there.
You sat, listening to the birds, seeing morning joggers pass, kids making their way to school, and you finished your meal. You got up to throw your trash away and took one last glance at the plaque.
You memorized the phrase engraved on there, but still took the time to read through every word. You took your hand out of your warm jacket pocket and felt your hand graze over the cold brass, your fingers feeling the grooves and the strict maintenance courtesy of Alfred.
In one last sigh, you turned to get to work, tapping the base of the gargoyle before the steps, happily humming to the calm start to your morning. Then another ache hit you just before your last step.
You turned around, but all the people hanging around the block were further away, enjoying the company of others or taking a stroll. You glanced around, unsure of what you were looking for.
But your search was interrupted by the cheerful voice of your coworker making his way up the steps.
You pushed down the feeling of the unknown, but some days you always felt like maybe Jason was with you, maybe from his bench built in his memory or the fact that this place was important to the two of you, but you always knew you were going to carry a portion of Jason with you.
In some comforting way, you told yourself that maybe your Jason never left.

can you write something about F1 driver (doesn't matter who) x reader, when they were best friends since childhood, but then suddenly they become strangers. no one knows how, why, and not even themselves, until they meet at the Las Vegas GP after a long absence..
Yeah suree. (I know this is pretty bad, but I wrote this late at night, so sorry, I'll just get better!!)
CHILD MEMORIES /LH44
Lewis Hamilton x reader
I don't know why I put Lewis, but somehow he fit me there..
words: 2k+
You were everything. You brightened up anyone, you laughed at everything, you were the sun of Mercedes. Everyone loved you, you were inseparable.
You and Lewis have been best friends since birth. Your families were close, so you practically had no choice but to hang out with each other. But the decision was great!
You spent whole days together, the same kindergarten, elementary school and then high school. You weren't even separated when Lewis started driving F1 because you followed him to EVERY race. Everyone knew how close you were. Journalists, fans, co-workers of Lewis, your families and you.
That's why you just didn't know what happened. Four months have passed since Lewis' last race. And you haven't seen each other in four months. You didn't know why, you didn't know how.
Lewis stopped texting you, stopped answering your calls, and blocked you pretty much everywhere. You couldn't comment on his posts, you couldn't do anything. When you were waiting for him three days ago after the race, you didn't even get to see him because Russell kicked you out saying that Lewis definitely didn't want to see you.
You didn't understand it at all because you were inseparable and the worst part was that everyone asked you about it. Your whole family asked you, your friends, fans of you and Lewis, or even the press. But you just couldn't answer. You couldn't tell them that you had absolutely no idea what was going on and you wanted to know. You couldn't tell them it was Lewis who cut you off because he would be blamed. And okay, maybe he's ignoring you right now and you don't know why, but you're definitely not a bitch who would betray him and take the blame on him. Yes, he was at fault, but not everyone needs to know that..
And that's why you decided to go to the race in Las Vegas, to find out the answers. You knew it might not be a good idea because you might get fired again and it would be even worse for your psyche, but you had to know the answers. Just had to.
âY/n no! You're not going to the movies with himâ Lewis started yelling at you when you were nine.
,,Why? You are not my mom to order me around. He's nice to me and he doesn't yell at me unlike you" you stuck your tongue out at him and started putting on your mom's lipstick.
"He's not nice. He's just using you" he shook his head and stepped closer to you.
"But he's handsome. You don't know him at allâ you mumbled as you concentrated on putting red on your lips.
"I know him. He doesn't do homework at all and his dad is said to have been in prison. He's not nice to me at all" he explained and you turned to him.
âIs it true?â you asked and he nodded quickly, his head almost falling off. "But I already have the tickets and I've made an appointment with him" you whined.
"Then you will come with me and we will write him a letter on the way. He only lives a few minutes away anyway" Lew thought up and you finally went along with his solution.
You took off your lipstick and pulled out a piece of paper and started writing - which looked like a scratch that you weren't going anywhere with. Then you put it in the envelope Lew had made in the meantime, sealed it with saliva, and dropped it in his mailbox when you went to the cinema.
At home, you packed some things, bought tickets and booked a hotel. You told your parents and everyone close to you about your plan and got on the plane.
After a few hours of flight, you finally flew to Las Vegas, called a taxi and went to check into the hotel.
When you did this, you decided it was time to go get answers. You didn't know what you would say to him when you saw him in four months, or if you would see him at all, but you wanted to at least try.
You've been pretty sick these past few months and weeks. You were constantly wondering if it was your fault and what you did wrong. The family told you that it might not be your fault but his, but you just didn't want to believe that Lewis would do something like that. Certainly not the Lewis you knew.
You cried for days and nights and it took you a long time to sort of recover from it. You knew that if Lewis ignored you even today, or didn't let you see him, it would be even worse. But why not give it a try?
You left the hotel straight to the track, where the qualification was supposed to start in an hour so you were hoping to catch Lewis before quali started.
You showed your VIP ticket at the entrance to the track, even though the people at the gate already knew you very well and would have taken you without a ticket, and you headed to the Mercedes garage, more nervous than ever.
You slowly shuffled there, already having several journalists on your neck, which you successfully ignored. And you also successfully ignored the feeling that told you to turn around and not go there at all.
It wasn't long before you saw a boy in a blue jumpsuit who revealed himself to be George Russell. As soon as you approached him, he noticed you and frowned at first before smiling slightly when he saw your expression.
âY/n hi. You haven't been here long" he said as he walked up to you and gave you a quick hug.
"Yeah well, I didn't have much reason to walk there" you smiled firmly and looked around for Lewis. "Don't you know where Lewis is?" you asked and George's smile immediately disappeared from his face.
"I think he doesn't want to talk to you much. Besides we are going quali in a bitâ he said quickly and you frowned.
"I absolutely do not see why you are bodyguarding him, but I want to know the reason why he did this to me. I have a right to knowâ you got angry.
"I know, I know but..-"
"No, no but. Just let me go to him. I need to knowâ you whispered the last part of your sentence and with that George pulled away from you leaving you to search the area.
You searched for quite a long time before you finally caught sight of his head. He was already dressed in his racing suit and was looking for something on the table, among all the things. You stopped for a moment before taking a deep breath and stepping forward..
Either it will ruin your life or you will find out the reason..
âLewis?â your little six year old self whispered and patted little Lewis.
âYeahâ he turned sleepily in his bed and looked at you.
"Could I sleep with you? I'm scared on the floor" you whispered and desperately hoped he would say yes. You were supposed to sleep with him, but since his bed was small, you had to sleep on the floor, which you didn't like.
Little Lewis didn't answer, he just shifted on the bed towards the wall and lifted the covers. You quickly took advantage of this and crawled under the covers, where you snuggled up.
"Thank you so much" you smiled a little and felt tiredness wash over you. Lewis barely nodded, himself already in dreamland and put his arm around your small body and hugged you.
"I love you" you kissed his cheek and rested your head on his shoulder.
"Me too" Lewis smiled, pulling you closer and together you slowly returned to the realm of dreams..
âLewis?â You asked cautiously, stepping a fair distance away from him to give you some space. You could see a light bulb go off in his head that it was you and he tensed slightly before turning to you.
"What are you doing here?" he asked without a greeting and glared at you. Okay, maybe you really should have stayed home..
"I came to watch the race" you replied because you didn't want to argue right now even though you knew it would most likely end up like that.
"And did you buy VIP tickets?" he rolled his eyes at your stupidity and you couldn't take it anymore.
"Why are you ignoring me? Why did you just do all this overnight" you asked him and even though it was only the first question, tears formed in your eyes.
"I don't know what you're talking about" Lewis shook his head and went back to looking for things.
"Lewis, you know it very well. Did I do something wrong? Did I say something wrong? Because I really don't know why you just left me without an explanation after more than 30 years of knowing each other" you frowned and you made him turn around.
"I don't know okay" he started waving his hands and sighed.
âSo you don't know?â you whispered, a single tear falling down your cheek. You quickly wiped it away, but Lewis seemed to see it. "After all four months, when I cried constantly because I didn't know the fuck reason why you did it, you're going to tell me that you don't know? You don't even know how much I've been worried about this because how could you when you blocked me everywhere and when I followed you George dumped meâ now you started crying.
Looking at your tear covered face, Lewis softened slightly and moved a little closer to you. "I couldn't see you" he only said and looked sympathetic. "I really wanted, I wanted to hug you and explain everything to you, but I couldn't".
"But why"? you sniffed and wiped away the stray tears with the back of your hand - and that there were a lot of them.
"I" he started and ran a hand through his hair without continuing. "Maya, my ex-girlfriend. I started dating her shortly before I cut you off, you didn't even get to know her. She was very angry that I was talking to you and on top of that the whole team said that I was fired by you because I wasn't winning so many races, so I thought this would be the easiest solution. I knew it was definitely wrong, but it was the easiest. But when Maya broke up with me a month ago because she found someone else, I didn't have the strength to go to you. I knew you'd be mad. I knew I messed up terribly. Please forgive me. Please" now he started crying too.
His explanation left you completely shocked. You didn't know what to say to that. You may have understood Maya because you yourself have experienced that a person behaves differently under the pressure of a loved one, but that his team said are you distracting him?
âSo this was the easiest solution?â you finally asked.
"Yes. No. I don't know. I really don't know, please forgive me. I understand what you had to go through and I don't want to lose all those years when we were kids and teenagers" he begged walking closer to you before wiping your wet cheeks with his big hands.
"And Mercedes thinks I'm distracting you"?
"Well, George doesn't. The other teams didn't either, but we really had a tough season, everyone thought differently, they certainly didn't mean it" he hugged you tightly and didn't want to let go.
You wrapped your arms around his back and he wrapped his around your waist. "Let's not lose all our friendship, please. I'll do anything" he whispered in your ear and you nodded.
He might have done a bad thing that cost you an extreme amount of tears and everything, but he was still Lewis, who you had loved since birth and who would never knowingly do something so horrible.
"Lew i don't want to lose our friendship either. But I will remember what you did. And I also hope that your Maya, who is probably a nice bitch by the way, doesn't show up in my life" you laughed lightly and Lewis too.
So in the end it turned out to be a good decision to go to Las Vegas...
âWhat if we never see each other again?â you sighed and looked deeply into the eyes of your best friend of 15 years.
"We'll see. I'm only going there for a few days for now, but you'll be able to go to my races. I'll give you a discount" he smiled at you seeing your concern and you shook your head.
Lew got an offer to F1, when they invited him to an audition and if he succeeded, he would go to junior competitions for a few years in Italy.
"You can't leave me here" you shook your head once more and pulled him into a hug.
"I won't let. Never. Best friends forever"?
"Best Friends Forever".

Little morning - Life after Hogwarts
synopsis ⧠Being a parent wasn't exactly easy and Sebastian found that out the hard way after the birth of his first son--who was now two-years-old and they were also expecting another. But regardless, he loved being a father. But the biggest problem with having a pregnant wife? A little toddler who just so happens to be a big mummy's boy that tries to wake her up at any chance he gets.
tags ⧠Fluff, tooth-rotting fluff, like so much fluff you guys. Talks of pregnancy and babies (ofc), toddlers (thats a warning in itself haha), marriage, just all the domestic cutesy stuff we all love. .
word count ⧠1.6k
a/n ⧠Just some random cute idea I got and I have been ITCHING to write Seb and Matty as parents. You've probably seen my other posts about their kids when they are older but I really wanted to do some of the younger stuff as well because the baby fever is strong rn and I need a outlet LOL.đ„ș Hope you enjoy! xoxo
Sebastian Sallow severely underestimated how difficult being a parent would be and just how much sleep he would lose by being one as well. Sure, he knew kids were difficult, and his wife had told him countless stories of the kids she had nannied or worked with who were difficult, but nothing couldâve prepared him for the real deal.
Little Eleazar was just past two years old by now, and yes, he was an abnormally well-behaved child; he still was a toddler, and wellâtoddlers did toddler things.
But despite the lack of sleep, the rough days, and the struggle of learning how to be a first-time parent, it was all worth it. They loved their little boy, and they loved him just the way he was.
And apparently it was âso worthâ it enough that Matty was now pregnant with their second child. Or at least in Sebastianâs words, it was âso worthâ having another. Matty had always wanted a couple of children, so she was up for having a second, but Sebastian was definitely the one who pushed the idea to have another.
Hence why she was now seven months pregnant and dealing with a toddler. But thankfully, Sebastian was a very hands-on and involved dad, and it made it all so much easier. He was an amazing husband and father. (She couldnât lie and say that wasnât the reason why she considered a second.)
It was nearing seven am when Sebastian, who was half asleep, heard the little pitter-patter of footsteps nearing the bedroom door. They had moved Ele into a different room a couple of months ago so he could get used to sleeping without Mum and Dad, especially once the new baby was around. But almost every morning, like clockwork, he managed to climb out of his crib and sneak off to Mum and Dad's room.
Sebastian, immediately knowing who it was, sat up and rubbed his eyes. The little footsteps stopped right at the door, which meant the door needed to be opened. Eleazar wasnât quite tall enough to reach the door handle and turn it, so usually Sebastian would have to do it himself since he was the first one up.
He could practically hear his son pouting on the other side of the door, so he swung his legs over the side of the bed and stood up, trying to be as quiet as possible so as not to wake up Matty, who was still peacefully sleeping.
He walked over to the door before opening it, looking down at his son. âWell, good morning,â he said, his voice still gravelly.
Eleazar quickly put his hands up, babbling a little to let his dad know that he wanted to be picked up. Sebastian leaned down and grabbed the little boy up in his arms. âYouâre two years old; you gotta start using your words, buddy.â He softly encouraged. But it seemed like Ele was too tired to speak anyway since he was rubbing his eyes the moment he was up in his father's arms.
Sebastian sat back down in bed, Eleazar placed in between him and Matty. âIf youâre going to be here, you gotta go back to sleep.â He said, trailing his knuckle against his son's chubby cheeks. Of course, he was only saying this to try and get more sleep himself, but when did toddlers ever listen to anybody?
Instead, Eleazar turned around, seeing that his mother was in bed. âMummy,â he babbled with a big smile, crawling over to where she was sleeping.
Sebastianâs heart almost jumped out of his chest as he had to quickly grab his son and pull him away from his mother in order for him not to wake her up. She definitely needed more sleep. âWait, wait, no, we canât go to Mummy right now, okay? Mummy is sleeping.â Sebastian tried to explain.
However, Eleazar did not like being told no. Especially when it came to his mummy. The corner of his lips curled down, forming a little frown, and by the way his little bottom lip quivered, Sebastian could quickly tell that he was going to start crying.
Panicking a little more, Sebastian quickly grabbed the little boy up in his arms. âHey, hey, it's okay.â He soothed. âWe just canât wake up Mummy right now; sheâs resting.â
He knew Eleazar couldnât understand a lick of what he was saying, but he hoped the tone of his voice would help calm him down. âMummy is very tired, and she has little brother or sister to deal with too, okay?â He continued. âI can assure you that definitely isnât easy.â He half mumbled under his breath with a chuckle. But that was more for his own amusement than an explanation.
Ele didnât cry, but he looked up at his father with his big blue eyes that he had inherited from his mother, a pout still on his face. âMummy.â He repeated, this time more determined.
Sebastian sighed, shifting to where he was now lying down with the child in his arms. âMummy is asleep. Which is what you should be doing right now too. Youâre still so young to be waking up this early.â
âNo.â
Sebastian sighed again. He hated the fact that usually one of the first five words for children was usually no. It was helpful when they could communicate what they wanted, but it also happened to become their favorite word very quickly. Saying no to everything mummy or daddy needed them to do.
âYes.â
âMm-hm.â Eleazar shook his head, clearly conveying that he was saying no.
âWhat am I going to do with you?â He chuckled, pinching his son's cheeks.
But luckily for the both of them, Matty shifted a little, signaling that she was indeed finally awake. Ele quickly looked behind him, seeing his mother begin to wake up. A big smile instantly appeared on his face, and he slipped out of his dad's arms and immediately crawled over to his mother. He was a big mummyâs boy and always wanted to be with her.
When Matty felt two little hands on her arms, she chuckled, opening her eyes. âGood morning, sweetheart,â she said sweetly, the sleep still obvious in her voice.
Eleazar immediately plopped his full body weight onto his mother, giving her a big hug. She laughed, giving him a hug back before sitting up. She looked over at Sebastian and then back down to her son. âSomething tells me youâve been giving your father a little bit of a hard time.â She said, poking her son's little tummy.
âIâll say,â Sebastian muttered. âLittle bugger tried to wake you up the moment he got into bed.â
Matty smiled. âHe just loves his mummy,â she cooed, shifting little Ele so she could have him comfortably against her.
Raising a toddler and being pregnant definitely wasnât easy, but to Matty, it was worth it in the long run. Not all mornings did she wake up as nicely as she did now, but these mornings definitely helped and made up for the bad days.
âWell, thank you for letting me sleep in a little longer.â She said to Sebastian before leaning in for a quick good morning kiss from him. Sebastian smiled into the kiss, enjoying the attention from his wife. Sometimes that was scarce between work and raising a baby, so he was always loving any attention he got from her.
Meanwhile, little Ele was looking at his mother's belly, still wondering what on earth was going on there. It started to frustrate him that he could no longer sit on his mummyâs lap, but he slightly understood the concept of having another new little sibling that was seemingly âin mummyâs tummyâ and that it was a baby.
Matty looked down and chuckled. âSay hi to the baby, Ele.â She urged.
Eleazar didnât say anything, but he did wave, thinking that his little brother or sister could see him do so. Matty giggled a little bit at her son's expression, and she leaned down to kiss him on the forehead. âIn just a little bit youâll have a new brother or sister, and itâs gonna be sooo fun,â she said.
âSleepless nights and screaming babies are an interesting thing to consider fun.â Sebastian joked sarcastically.
âRemind me whose idea it was to have a second?â Matty said, raising her brow at her husband. She knew he was just joking, but she did like to poke fun at him because, after all, it was his idea to have another baby once Eleazar was a little older.
âIt was mine, and Iâll totally own up to that.â He chuckled, pulling his wife close to him. âAnd I canât wait to have another. Anything from you is a complete blessing, and Iâm lucky to have you and our children.â
Matty smiled and leaned her head against his chest. She had married the right man, thatâs for sure. And boy did she love him.
âI hope itâs a girl,â Sebastian mumbled into her neck.
âDonât want another little boy?â She chuckled, looking at him with a raised brow.
Sebastian shrugged. âIâll be happy either way. I just want a healthy baby. But since we have a boy already, I think itâd be nice to have a sweet little girl. Beautiful and intelligent, just like her mother.â He said, giving Matty a little squeeze.
âAnd here I thought you wanted a little mini-you.â Matty said.
âOh trust me, I do.â Sebastian replied. âBut who's to say that a little girl canât be my mini-me? We can get into all sorts of trouble together.â
âMhm, right. Not on my watch.â Matty joked with a laugh.
âWorth a shot.â Sebastian grinned.
I hope you all enjoyed this as much as I enjoyed writing it! Thank you so much for reading! đ„șâ€ïž

you and baekhyun had once been the epitome of college sweetheartsâlate-night study sessions that bled into spontaneous adventures, laughter, and whispered dreams of a future together. you were inseparable, his drive to become a doctor and your quiet dream of building a life with him making everything feel so perfect. you could picture it allâthe home, the life, the love, knowing youâd be together forever.
during those years, you moved in together. things got serious quickly. talks of marriage, kids, and a future youâd both start building when the time was right were always at the forefront. but as much as you both wanted to dive in right away, you both agreed that youâd wait until baekhyun had at least finished his schooling and residency. it made perfect senseâhis dream of becoming a doctor came first, and you were happy to support him, knowing youâd have a lifetime to make it all happen.
youâd completed undergrad together, then post-grad, and now, with your masterâs behind you, baekhyun was finishing med school and applying to residency programs. everything seemed to be unfolding just as it should.
but life, as it tends to do, shifted unexpectedly.
when baekhyunâs acceptance letter arrivedâthe one from his dream residency program across the countryâyour world tilted, skewed into something unrecognizable. this was his number one pick, the culmination of years of sacrifice and determination. you shouldâve been ecstatic, screaming with joy for him, for his future. but instead, a foreign weight settled low in your stomach, twisting into something unnameable. Â
youâd only just found out, barely two days ago. pregnant. the word clung to you like a vice, heavy and suffocating. you hadnât planned for this, hadnât even considered it a possibility. and yet, here it wasâundeniable. that stupid test, its second line blaring back at you like a neon sign, mocking the life you thought you had under control. Â
you stared at it, willing the line to fade, to disappear, to become a cruel trick of your imagination. but it didnât. and the next test didnât either. nor the one after. five little sticks, five blaring truths. undeniable. inescapable.
you didnât want to hold him back. not when his dreams were so close. not when the future he had worked so hard for was finally within his grasp.
so you made a decision. you couldnât tell him. you couldnât bear to see the guilt and the pain in his eyes as he would undoubtedly sacrifice his dreams for you and the baby. you thought it was the right thing to do, that you were doing him a favor by disappearing, by cutting off all contact.Â
you had moved to a new cityâfar from the places where memories of baekhyun lingered, far from the shadow of the life youâd carefully unraveled. it wasnât easy; untangling yourself from him had felt like pulling threads from a tapestry until it barely resembled what it once was. but over time, you found a rhythm. a life where thoughts of him became a quiet hum rather than a deafening roar, where the love that had once consumed you slipped quietly into the recesses of your heart. Â
and now, three years later, you stand here as someone completely transformed: a mother. Â
raising your daughter alone had its challenges, sure, but you couldnât deny the sense of purpose it gave you. you were made for this. or maybe it was herâthe tiny miracle who had made it all feel so natural. from the moment she came into the world, she was an angel, a light so radiant it softened even the hardest days. Â
sure, she had her moments. she was a toddler, after all, still learning how to navigate big feelings in a little body. but her resilienceâthe way she could fall apart one minute and bounce back the nextâmade everything easier. she was your shadow, your little mimic, always wanting to copy everything you did. Â
the love she gave you was pure and boundless, something you hadnât realized could exist until she was in your arms. it was a love that filled the spaces in you that you didnât even know were empty, a love that made the sacrifices and sleepless nights worth it. Â
you often found yourself wondering if she was a gift straight from the universe, a little piece of heaven sent just for you. every smile she gave, every tight hug, every soft âi love you, mommyâ felt like proof that you were the luckiest soul alive.
and as you watched her now, her tiny fingers curled around her favorite stuffed bunny, a swell of overwhelming gratitude washed over you. life had twisted and turned in ways you never couldâve anticipated, but somehow, in her, it had gifted you everything youâd ever need.
maybe it was the depth of love she gave, the way she radiated warmth and light, that made the thought of telling baekhyun even more terrifying. she was everythingâthe way her laughter could turn any bad day around, the way her eyes sparkled with innocence and curiosity. a fragile little soul, so beautiful it almost hurt. and you knew, deep down, that baekhyun wouldâve adored her. loved her more than words could describe.
the thought of itâof him finding out, of him knowing youâd kept her from him, hidden this piece of him, this precious life from himâit twisted something deep inside you. it made your chest tighten, your thoughts spiral. the guilt, the shameâit felt like a constant ache, one that only grew the more you thought about it.
you and baekhyun talked about it, after allâthe future you both dreamed of. lazy nights tangled together under blankets, whispering about what life would look like years down the road. marriage, a house filled with warmth and laughter, children. Â
he wanted a family with you. he was so sure of it, so sure of you. he used to say that he couldnât imagine anyone else being the mother of his kids. the way he looked at you when he said itâit was as if his soul had reached out, seen yours, and said, there she is, the one weâve been waiting for.
he was a dreamer. heâd mapped it all out in his headâtwo girls, two boys. his perfect little quartet. the oldest, a girl, to set the tone, to be the leader of the pack. then a boy to balance things out, another boy to roughhouse and make the middle feel less lonely, and finally, the baby of the family, a girl to soften the edges of the chaos. he laughed at the improbability of it all, at how life doesnât work like that, but he loved dreaming about it anyway. Â
you still remembered the way his face lit up when youâd asked him, teasing, what heâd name his first daughter. Â
he didnât even hesitate. he looked up at you, that smile you used to know better than your own, and said, minji. Â
your little girl, minji, was the brightest star in your universe, her laughter a melody that softened every hard edge of your world. her smileâwarm and goldenâwas like sunlight spilling into the corners of your heart, chasing away the shadows that lingered from the life you left behind. she was growing so fast, each day a reminder of how fleeting these moments were, and how much you wanted to hold onto them. Â
sometimes, though, when the house was quiet and the weight of the past crept in, you allowed yourself to think about baekhyun. it was never for longâjust a passing thought, a wondering what if. you didnât dare to linger, didnât dare to stir up the bittersweet ache of old feelings and lingering regrets. he had his life now, and you had yours. Â
but still, he had been the love of your life, and that kind of love doesnât just disappear. curiosity tugged at you from time to time. late at night, when minji was fast asleep, youâd catch yourself wondering what he was doing, where he was, if he ever thought about you, too. Â
yet no matter how strong the urge, you never gave in. you wouldnât let yourself open his socials, wouldnât let yourself peer into the window of the life he was living without you. it wasnât that you didnât want to knowâit was that you couldnât. because knowing might hurt more than not knowing, and the delicate balance youâd created would come crashing down.
you hadnât blocked him, not on anything. instead, you deleted every account, wiped your digital footprint clean, and changed your number. you made sure there was no way for him to reach you, no thread he could pull to unravel the wall youâd built between you. Â
you never allowed yourself to dwell on how hurt he might have beenâhow confused he mustâve felt, waiting for a call or a text that never came. the promises youâd made to him echoed in your mind, haunting you. iâll tell him when the time is right. but the right time never came. Â
and then she was born. tiny fingers curling around yours, eyes so full of life. she reached milestonesâher first smile, her first steps, her first wordâand with each one, the weight of telling him grew heavier. how could you? how could you drop this truth on him after heâd already missed so much? Â
you imagined his reaction: the sharp edge of his disappointment, the rawness of his hurt, the anger that would burn in his chest. heâd ask you whyâwhy did you wait? why did you let so much time pass? and youâd have no answer, nothing that could make it right. Â
as the years went by, the truth turned into a mountain too steep to climb. every day that passed felt like another brick in the wall separating you. every moment you stayed silent made it harder to imagine breaking that silence. Â
you told yourself it was for the best. you told yourself he deserved better than someone who had made this choice, this mess. Â
because deep down, you believed it: you didnât deserve him. not anymore. not after this
the sound of tiny sneakers squeaking against the linoleum floor filled the pediatricianâs office as you followed your daughter toward the nurseâs station. she clutched her favorite stuffed animal tightly in one hand while the other reached back for yours, her eyes wide with curiosity as she took in the colorful murals on the walls. Â
it was a routine check-up for minji, nothing out of the ordinary. she had been a healthy, happy child since birth, and today was just another appointment to ensure that everything was progressing as it should.
you had scheduled the appointment weeks ago, not knowing who the pediatrician was going to be. when you walked into the small, sunlit office, minji tugged excitedly on your sleeve, her eyes wide with curiosity at the brightly colored walls and the small toys scattered around the waiting room.
âmommy, look!â she gasped, pointing to a painted giraffe. her excitement momentarily eased the nervous flutter in your stomach. âa giraffe!â
âyes, it is, bun! good job!â you smile down at the little girl, holding your hand tightly.
it had been over three years. three years since youâd left your old lifeâand himâbehind. baekhyun was supposed to be a part of your daughterâs story, but you made the impossible choice of keeping him out of it. his dreams had always been so big, and you didnât want to weigh them down with your own. Â
a medical assistant called your name, her warm, practiced smile cutting through the haze of your thoughts. Â
you scooped your daughter into your arms, her tiny hands clutching her stuffed bunny, and followed the nurse into the examination room. she wriggled slightly but settled on your lap, the bunny tucked snugly under her chin as she began the usual routine. Â
height. weight. temperature. the nurse kept up a cheerful, steady rhythm of chatter, her voice a soft hum in the background as your daughter giggled at the stickers offered to her. Â
âdr. byun will be in shortly,â the medical assistant said with a final smile before leaving the room. Â
your heart stopped. Â
'dr. byun'?
no. it couldnât be him. it had to be a coincidence. it was a common enough name, wasnât it? but the sound of it crashed into you, unraveling the calm façade youâd so carefully built. Â
you told yourself you were being ridiculous. you told yourself to breathe. but the name echoed in your head, louder with every passing second, until you could barely hear your own thoughts over the roar of panic rising in your chest. Â
then came the knock. Â
soft. polite. Â
the door creaked open, and time seemed to slow to an agonizing crawl as he stepped inside. Â
your breath caught in your throat. Â
it was him. Â
fuck. Â
no. Â
this wasnât supposed to happen. not like this. this wasnât how he was supposed to find out. there were plans you never made, conversations you never had. Â
this was a complete and utter nightmare. and there was no waking up from it. Â
âhi, iâm dr. byunââ his voice wavered, the words barely leaving his lips before they caught in his throat. his eyes found yours, wide with recognition, a spark of disbelief flashing like lightning in a storm. Â
his gaze drifted downward, landing on the little girl perched on your lap. her tiny hands clutched your sweater, her curious eyes meeting his with unfiltered wonder. Â
for a moment, the world seemed to stop turning. Â
his lips parted, and your name slipped out, soft and breathless, as if saying it might make the moment vanish. âitâs you,â he murmured, a mixture of shock and something deeper lacing his tone. Â
you couldnât find your voice, couldnât push past the lump forming in your throat. it was as though every nerve in your body had frozen, locked under the weight of his stare. Â
your daughter, oblivious to the tension coiling around you, tilted her head with a sunny smile. her voice rang out, bright and pure, shattering the silence like glass. Â
âhi, dr. byun!â she chirped, her words sweet and unassuming, a small anchor of innocence in the overwhelming tide of emotions threatening to pull you under.
baekhyunâs eyes widened instantly, flickering between you and her. you could see the cogs in his mind turning, the pieces falling into place far quicker than you were ready for. Â
his gaze lingered on herâstudying, comparing. the resemblance was impossible to ignore. the same dark, expressive eyes that had once melted your heart, the same warm, radiant smile that mirrored his own. Â
âisâŠis she?â his voice was barely above a whisper, as though he wasnât asking you but trying to make sense of the impossible himself. his eyes never left her, as if every second he stared brought him closer to the undeniable truth. Â
her delicate features were a perfect blend of you both, like a portrait painted with pieces of your souls. the curve of his nose graced her face, paired with the flush of your rosy cheeks. his silky black hair framed her tiny head, while your lips formed the gentle pout she wore even in sleep. your eyes shone through hers, but her earsâthose were unmistakably his. she was everything you were, everything he wasâwoven together into this perfect, fragile little person, carrying pieces of a love that felt both timeless and out of reach. and now, looking at her, there was no denying it.
your mouth opened, but the words didnât come. you tried to speak, to explain, to say somethingâanythingâbut all that escaped was a breath, shallow and lost in the silence that filled the space between you. the truth hung there, thick and fragile, like a thread that could snap at any moment, leaving you exposed. Â
you could only nod, slow and uncertain, as the weight of everything pressed down on you. the guilt was suffocating, heavy like a stone lodged in your chest, threatening to spill out in the form of tears you couldnât afford to shed. but there was no escaping it anymore. Â
she was his. Â
baekhyun sank to his knees in front of her, his movements tentative, as if afraid that any sudden motion might make her disappear. he leaned in, eyes soft with a mixture of awe and something deeper, something unspoken. Â
âso, tell me. whatâs your name, sweetheart?â his voice was gentle, tender, the words falling from his lips like a promise he wasnât quite ready to make. Â
âminji,â she said proudly, her tiny hands holding up her stuffed bunny, as though it were the most important thing in the world. âthis is sonny. sheâs a bunny.â Â
the moment her name reached his ears, something shifted in baekhyunâs chest. his heart skipped, and a smile tugged at the corners of his lips, soft and amazed. for a brief second, he was lost in the memory of a quiet conversationâthe one where youâd asked him what he would want to name your daughter, and how that moment, so simple, had felt like a lifetime ago.
âhi, minji,â he said softly, his voice trembling as his eyes locked onto her small, curious face. he crouched slightly, lowering himself to her level, and the words caught in his throat. âiâmâŠâ his gaze flickered upward to yours, and in that brief second, the weight of it all was laid bare. his expression faltered, his eyes glossing with unshed tears, carrying the unspoken words and unresolved emotions that hung heavy between you. Â
you saw it thenâthe man he was before, the one you fell for, unchanged and yet altered by time and pain. Â
ââŠa good friend of your mommyâs,â he finally managed, the words shaky but kind. Â
minji giggled, her laughter light and carefree, like a burst of sunshine breaking through a storm. âmommy has lots of friends!â she chirped, her innocence unknowingly twisting the knife in baekhyunâs chest. Â
he nodded with a soft smile, his lips barely curving, as if the weight of her words was too much to bear. âshe does, doesnât she?â he murmured. his hands moved carefully as he began preparing for her exam, every motion deliberate, like he was trying to steady himself through the task. Â
but his eyes⊠his eyes stayed rooted to the ground, skirting around yours as if meeting your gaze would undo him entirely. and as you stood there, watching him avoid you, something inside you cracked. you knew why. you knew he wasnât ready yetânot to face you, not to confront the flood of everything that had been left unsaid. Â
as baekhyun began the check-up, it was as if the floodgates of your heart had been ripped open. memories surged in, overwhelming you like a tidal waveâthose plans you had once woven together, the future you had dreamed of, the life you thought youâd build before everything crumbled. nearly four years had passed since you disappeared without a trace, but those dreams now felt like fragile, delicate threads, tangled in the web of secrets youâd spun to protect him.Â
baekhyun moved with the same calm professionalism that you rememberedâhis hands steady and sure as he worked. but you couldnât tear your gaze away from him, from the way he interacted with minjiâhis touch soft and deliberate, his voice lilting with that same soothing cadence. it was a tenderness that sliced through you, sharp and immediate, a reminder of everything youâd lost. how could you have let him slip away? how could you have convinced yourself that walking away was the right choice?
watching him, gently checking minjiâs ears, his voice quieting her in the way he once did for you, something inside you twisted painfully. you couldnât run from him anymore. not now. not ever again.
the exam ended far too quickly. minji bounced off the examination table, her bunny clutched in her small arms, and baekhyun handed you a stack of papersâeducational handouts, visit summaries, the usual paperwork from a childâs wellness check. his fingers brushed yours as he passed them to you, and the brief touch left a burning trail that lingered long after. Â
minjiâs small hand tugged at your sleeve, warm and insistent, her voice a soft melody that cut through the heavy air. âmommy, mommy! can we go play now?â
you forced a smile, but it didnât reach your eyes. the weight of the moment pressed on your chest, and you fought to keep the tears from falling. âsure, bun. weâll go in just a minute.â
the word bun hung in the air between you, and baekhyun flinched. his eyes flickered with something raw, a mix of pain and recognition. that name. it was something he used to call youâ a relic of a past that felt both distant and achingly close.
his gaze didnât leave you, like he was trying to unravel the walls youâd so carefully built around yourself. there was a quiet intensity in his eyes, as if he was searching for something buried deep within you. the space between you both thickened, heavy with unspoken words. it felt suffocating, like the air was being stolen from your lungs. this was it. the moment that would change everything.
after what felt like an eternity, baekhyun cleared his throat, his voice thick with restraint. âwe need to talk,â he said, the words heavy and laced with something you couldnât quite name. âplease⊠i just⊠i have so many questions.â
you nodded quickly, the anxiety twisting your insides into knots. âum, sure⊠i can meet you after i drop her off at daycare?â your words rushed out, frantic, as your brow furrowed in uncertainty.
"thereâs a coffee shop nearby," he murmured, his voice soft yet steady, the words deliberate. his hand moved to pull out a notepad, pen poised above the paper. with a few swift strokes, he jotted down the name of the place before folding the paper and handing it to you. "i have a couple more patients to see this morning. do you think you can meet me there in an hour?"
his voice was calm, but his eyesâthose eyesâtold a different story. they flickered with something raw, something desperate, like a storm fighting its way to the surface.
you took the slip of paper, your fingers brushing his, a small shock of warmth shooting through you at the touch. you glanced down at the paper, his handwriting still familiar, though now slightly uneven, as if his nerves had bled into the ink. beneath the coffee shop's name, his number was writtenâneat but hurried, a subtle tremor in the lines.
you looked back up, and his gaze met yoursâquiet, intense, full of unspoken things. without a word, he nodded toward the paper, his voice steady but laced with something fragile, something that didnât quite fit with the man you knew. "that's my number, bun. just in case you're running late or something."
you nodded, a smile tugging at the corners of your mouth, but it felt tight, strained. his nickname for youâa small, tender thingâlingered in the air like a spark. you felt it in your chest, but the words caught in your throat. too much. too many emotions swirling. your hands moved on instinct, gathering minjiâs things, offering him a tight, polite smile before ushering your daughter out of the room.
but just as you turned to leave, you swore you heard him whisperâbarely audible, a plea caught between his teeth, "please, don't leave me hanging this time."
it hit you like a blow to the gut, leaving you breathless. the weight of it pressed down on you, suffocating.Â
and in that moment, you knew with brutal clarityâyou deserved that.
you sat there, the weight of your nerves pressing down on you, each breath feeling too loud in the quiet of the cafĂ©. baekhyun chatted casually with the barista, ordering drinks like it was any other day, like nothing had changed between you two. his voice was light, unbothered, but it only made the tension in your chest heavier. you gripped the strap of your bag so tightly your fingers ached, heart pounding in your ears, drowning out the soft hum of conversation around you. your mind raced in circles, desperately searching for the right wordsâsomething to apologize for the years you took from him, for keeping his daughter from him, for all the lies. but no matter how hard you tried to form the apology, the truth hovered over you: what you did was unforgivable.
when baekhyun finally returned, he slid your drink in front of you, his movements slower than usual, almost tentative. you brought the cup to your lips, the warmth of it familiar, the taste exactly as you rememberedâcomforting, like a quiet reminder of everything you'd tried to bury.Â
"i remembered how you liked your coffee," baekhyun murmured, his voice softer than before, tinged with uncertainty. "i hope it's still the same."Â
you met his gaze, your throat tight as you forced a small smile. "it is. thank you."
baekhyun exhaled a heavy breath, running a hand through his hair, his fingers snagging in the tousled strands. his eyes drifted away from yours, unable to meet your gaze, as if the weight of this moment was pressing down on him just as much as it was on you. Â
"so..." you began, your voice hesitant, but before you could find the right words, he interrupted. Â
âiâm engaged,â he blurted, the words sharp and sudden, like a slap to the face. Â
it hit you in the chest, the shock stealing the air from your lungs. the room seemed to tilt, the ground beneath you crumbling, and you couldnât find your footing. as if this day wasnât heavy enough, this new weight crushed you under its force. Â
"oh," you whispered, the word tasting hollow, barely escaping as your heart constricted. "congratulations. i'm sure she's... amazing."Â Â
"mhm," he hummed softly, a brief flicker of a smile tugging at the corner of his mouth before it faded. his eyes dropped to his coffee cup, watching the steam rise like he was searching for something in the shifting mist, anything to avoid the tension between you. Â
you couldnât find the strength to say more. words seemed pointless now. instead, you sat there, biting your lip, your gaze fixed on the table as jealousy and heartbreak clawed at you from the inside. you knew you had no right to feel this way, no right to be hurt after everything that had happened. but still, the ache lingered, a quiet, relentless sting.
his fingers raked through his hair again, the tension in his jaw unmistakable as he exhaled sharply, frustration thick in the air. when he finally met your gaze, his eyes were raw with hurt, every unspoken word between you now painfully exposed. "so why didn't you tell me? about minji?"
you'd rehearsed this moment a thousand times in your mind, each word crafted carefully, but now, sitting across from him, it all felt empty, hollow. "you had just gotten into your residency program," you said softly, voice shaky. "it was your dream. iâŠi didnât want to hold you back."
his eyes darkened, the hurt twisting into something sharper. "so what? you thought you could decide for me? you think i wouldn't have wanted to be there?" his voice cracked with emotion, rising. "do you have any idea how much i waited for you? how many nights i sat by the phone, praying you'd call?"
the weight of it hit you, hard. you'd known, of courseâhe'd been dropped from the program. he'd fought tooth and nail to get into a second-choice school, one that brought him here, to this city. and now, here he was, sitting across from you, the remnants of his sacrifice hanging in the silence between you.
his gaze faltered, dropping to the steaming cup in front of him. he stared at the swirling mist as if it held the answers, as if the rising steam could ease the hurt, the questions, the ache that had settled between you.
you didnât know what to say anymore. words felt pointless, insignificant in the face of everything that had unfolded. instead, you sat there, biting your lip, unable to meet his eyes, while jealousy and regret clawed at your chest. it wasnât your place to feel this wayânot after everything you had done. but the sting of it, sharp and biting, wouldnât fade.
the tears you had spent so long holding back finally began to break free, each drop feeling like it had been waiting a lifetime to fall. you didnât want to keep apologizing, but the words slipped out, hollow and fragile. "it wasnât an easy choice, baekhyun. i thought i was doing the right thing."Â
ââthe right thingâ?â his voice softened, but the hurt in his words still rang out like a chord being pulled too tight. "you didnât even give me a chance. i missed everythingâher first steps, her first words. you took all of that from me."Â
your throat tightened, each breath harder to catch. you swallowed, and your voice cracked under the weight of the truth. âi know,â you whispered, the regret clawing at you. âi regret it every day.âÂ
baekhyunâs hands were curled into fists, white knuckles pressing into the table like they could anchor him in place. he didnât look at youâhis gaze was lost in his coffee, the silence hanging heavily between you both. and then, after what felt like an eternity of stillness, he spoke again, his voice quieter, as if the question had burned him from the inside. âdoes she know?âÂ
you shook your head slowly, feeling your chest tighten. âi havenât told her. i didnât know how... but sheâs been asking. she sees the other kids with their dads and wonders why she doesnât have one.âÂ
baekhyun covered his face with his hands, rubbing his eyes as if trying to erase the raw pain. "i can't believe this. i can't believe you."Â
"i know, baekhyun," you whispered, tears spilling down your face without control now. "you have every right to hate me... and if you want, you donât have to see either one of us againâ"Â
his voice sliced through your words, thick with disbelief, tremoring as if he couldnât comprehend what you were saying. "are you... are you serious right now? youâd leave? again? how is that supposed to fix anything? did you not think i wanted her? wanted you? weâve talked about this, bun... you knew what it meant for me to be a dad."
the sobs broke free from you then, impossible to hold back, your chest aching with each desperate breath. you wiped at your face, but your hands trembled too violently, the tears just wouldnât stop. all you could choke out were broken apologies, fragments of regret slipping between your breaths. "i knew youâd drop everything for her. for us. but... you becoming a doctor, that was your dream... and i was just so scared."
he leaned forward, his expression softening, but there was still a fire in his eyes. âi want to be in her life,â he said, his voice firm, steady, eyes red from the silent tears streaming down his face. âsheâs my daughter. and i want to know her. i want her to know me. her father.â Â
you looked at him, your heart heavy with guilt. âi wasnât planning to keep you away,â you said, your voice cracking. âi just... i didnât know how to tell you after all this time.â Â
baekhyunâs gaze softened, his voice quieter but resolute. âweâll figure it out. but iâm not letting you push me away again.â Â
you paused, biting your lip, anxiety clawing at your chest. âbut what about your fiancĂ©e? you already had a life of your own before todayâŠi canât help but feel like iâve fucked everything up for you, baekhyun.â Â
he shook his head, a soft, bitter laugh escaping him before he quickly suppressed it. his voice faltered, the nickname slipping out before he even realized it. âdonât worry about that, bunââ he stopped mid-sentence, the word tasting strange and wrong on his tongue after your mention of his fiancĂ©e. it was as if, in that moment, heâd completely forgotten about her. he cleared his throat, trying to steady himself. âi mean⊠just let me handle that. but for now... please, promise me you wonât disappear again. promise me you wonât take her away from me. iâm begging you... let me in. i feel like you owe me that much.â
you nodded, the promise catching in your throat. âi promise.â
you scrolled slowly through your camera roll, fingers grazing over the images of your daughter, sharing them with baekhyunâeach one, a snapshot of her life, a memory youâd held in secret for so long. each photo was like a tender piece of your soul, each moment a quiet confession of everything that had unfolded without him. there was a rawness in it, a vulnerability that felt like you were unwrapping your heart for him, and it was overwhelming. for both of you.
he sat there, eyes scanning the photos, and a storm of emotions swirled within him. there was anger, sharp and bitter, that youâd kept minji hidden from him. all those years, a secret that was both yours and hers to carry. betrayal lingered in his chest, not from you, but from the truth that he hadnât been there, that heâd missed out on so much. and yet, despite it not being his fault, guilt settled heavy in his heartâguilt that you had to raise her alone. guilt for every moment youâd carried the weight of motherhood without him by your side.
but baekhyun, the man who had always been able to push past the shadows of the past, found something in the photosâsomething bright, something he could hold onto. minjiâs smile, sweet and dimpled, was a beacon of hope. it was everything he needed to see, to ignite a fire within him. it wasnât just a reminder of what was lostâit was the fuel that would drive him to make up for every single moment heâd missed.
the weight of the conversation shifted slowly, and before you even realized it, the words spilled out. you couldnât stop yourselfâyou had to ask about her. his fiancĂ©e.
he told you her name was soo. they met during his residency, he said, when she helped pull him from the darkest corner of his lifeâthe place where your absence had left him, broken and barely breathing. she was the one who stitched him back together, the one who healed the wound youâd left, a wound that, it seemed, only she could mend.
and yet, even as he spoke, despite the rawness of his confession, he wasnât trying to make you feel guilty. he didnât want to hurt you. but the words hung there, thick with unspoken emotions.
then, he showed you the photos. of her. oh god, she was beautiful. radiant, in a way that seemed to glow from within. they looked like they were made for each other, perfectly matched, intertwined in a way you could never hope to be. he spoke of her with aweâhow brilliant and kind she was.
and as he spoke, something tugged at the edges of your thoughts. his eyes, usually so bright and full of warmth when he spoke of someone he loved, were different now. softer, distant. the sparkle that once lived there had dimmed, as if the affection he had for her wasnât as alive as it once had been. you told yourself not to read too much into it, to not dwell on the subtle shift. it had been years. people changed, didnât they? he wasnât the same baekhyun you remembered. especially not after everything you had put him through.
it stirred a jealousy in you, sharp and bitter, but deeper than that, it left a dull ache settling in your chest. you longed to be the one he spoke of with such adoration, the one he admired in every way. you couldnât stop yourself from wondering if he ever spoke about you like thatâif he ever felt for you the way he now seemed to feel for her. it burned like poison in your veins, a vile and familiar ache that made you sick to your stomach. you hated it. hated how it made you feel so small, so unimportant. the weight of it made you want to vanish, to slip out of your own skin, anything to escape the suffocating reality of it all. you should be happy for him. happy that he had found someone who could make him feel whole again. but all you could feel was the hollow ache of your own failure to ever be enough.
you tried to smile, tried to hold yourself together, but each compliment, each story, each glowing word about her, hit you like a dagger to the chest. you couldnât listen anymore. you didnât want to.
it was too much. before you even realized it, you were standing, your throat tight as you forced the words out. âi... i need to go. um, i have to make dinnerâŠand pick up minji from daycare. iâll text you. we can figure out a time for you both to meet properly.â
before he could respond, you were out the door, the bells above the cafĂ© door jingling as you fled.Â
but you didnât make it far. a few seconds later, you heard the hurried footsteps behind you, his voice calling out. âbunâfuck, wait! slow down!â
you could feel the tears streaming down your face again, hot and uncontrollable. you wiped them hastily, hoping he didnât see. but of course, he did. he always did.Â
âlook,â baekhyun began, his voice softer now, tinged with something you couldnât place. âi never thought iâd hear from you again. and now you justâpop back into my life, on a random friday, with a daughter i had no idea about. iâm sorry if youâre upset that thereâs someone else in my life. but please... donât punish me for finding myself again after you completely destroyed me.â
his words hit harder than anything you couldâve prepared for. your knees felt weak, your heart shattering with every syllable. because it was true. every part of it. you had done this. youâd pushed him away, and now you had no right to feel this way, no right to demand anything.
"baek," you whispered, your voice barely above a breath, trembling under the weight of everything you couldnât say. "youâre right. i donât have the right to feel this way. i just... when i saw you again, it was like everything came crashing back. all those old feelingsâthings i thought iâd buriedâflooded back in an instant. but i swear, i wonât keep minji from you. i wonât. and... iâm honestly so glad youâve found happiness. and sooâshe... she seems amazing. i can see why youâre with her. and... iâm genuinely looking forward to co-parenting with you both. really."
you swallowed hard, the words like sandpaper against your throat. the lie at the end tasted bitter, clinging to the back of your tongue, but you forced them out anyway. you needed him to believe it. needed him to let you go so you could retreat to the quiet of your own space, where you could curl up and weep in the solitude of your own shame.
his expression softened, though there was something unreadable in his eyes. âhmmâŠokay.â he reached into his pocket, pulling out your phone. âyou left this on the table. and, uh⊠you promise youâll stay in contact?â
you nodded quickly, unlocking your phone and typing your name into the message. âyou have mine now, too.â
a small relief flashed in his eyes when he saw your name on the screen. he nodded, his voice steady. âthank you. let me know when youâre both ready. weâll make this work.â
you nodded, your throat tight as you wiped away the last of the tears. you offered him a half-smile, barely managing to hold it together, before turning away. your feet felt heavy as you walked to your car, the silence between you louder than anything.
when you finally arrived home, everything came crashing down at once, a tidal wave that hit you full-force. the weight of everything youâd been holding inside pressed into your chest, suffocating, like your lungs had forgotten how to breathe. you collapsed, body trembling, as sobs wrenched their way through youâsoft, guttural cries that seemed to echo in the emptiness of your apartment. tears streamed down your face, thick and relentless, each one heavier than the last, as if they were washing away more than just your sorrow. how had you managed to mess everything up this badly?
the feeling of being lost in your own failure was dizzying, a dark spiral that threatened to swallow you whole.
chanyeol, your next-door neighbor, was more than just a friendly face. he was a single parent too, his daughter nari being the same age as minji. from the moment youâd moved in, the girls had been inseparableâlike they were two halves of the same whole, constantly together, sharing everything from toys to whispered secrets. and over time, you and chanyeol had become something more than neighbors. you were lifelines to one another, navigating the chaos of single parenthood side by side. daycare pickups, late-night texts for advice, emergency contact callsâthey were moments that built trust, moments that held you both up when the world felt too heavy.
but then there were the other moments. the ones that neither of you had planned, yet they happened all the same.
on nights when the girls had sleepovers, tucked under either your roof or his, the house would fall into an eerie stillness, a quiet so profound it felt almost alien. no toys scattered across the floor, no giggles or whispers. just an empty house, and the faint hum of the world outside. in those moments, the bottle of wine always made its way to the tableâdeep crimson liquid swirling in your glass, catching the soft light in a way that felt too intimate, too inviting. the scent of it lingered in the air, rich and heady, like a secret waiting to be shared. one glass became two, then three, until the words flowed freely, unguarded.
laughter bubbled between you both, light and carefree, mingling with the quiet sounds of the night. and somewhere, in the subtle space between casual conversation and shared history, something shiftedâunspoken, but impossible to ignore. it wasnât deliberate, not in the beginning, but it was undeniable. a quiet tension hung between you both, the kind that hummed just below the surface, like a chord waiting to be struck.
in the warm, dim light, the lines between friendship and something more began to blur. his lips brushed yoursânot quite a kiss, but not exactly innocent either. the taste of wine lingered on his mouth, mingling with something darker, something deeper, something unspoken. your handsâalmost of their own accordâfound their way to each other, fingers tracing the outline of familiar paths, not quite daring to go any further. the touch was careful, deliberate, like a dance on the edge of something you both knew was dangerous, but too tempting to resist.
each kiss lingered just long enough to leave you wanting more, but never deepened enough to cross the line you both feared. the weight of unspoken rules hung between you, pulling back every time either of you tried to cross the line. clothes were the only barrier between you, a fragile wall that you both clung to, even as the urge to tear it down grew stronger.
but even in the silence, the weight of your unresolved feelings for baekhyun settled heavily in the room, a ghost that neither of you could escape. and chanyeolâhe carried his own baggage. the loss of his wife, a wound that had never fully healed, leaving him to raise nari on his own, balancing grief and fatherhood in a way that only he understood. he wasnât looking for more. not from you. not yet.
the timing was all wrong, the space between you wasnât yours to claim. but in those rare moments, it felt as if maybe, just maybe, it could have been.
it was never spoken aloud, but you both knew the truth. chanyeol knew you still loved baekhyun, and that truth hung between you like a quiet weight. neither of you disturbed it. the unspoken agreement between you was that your daughters came first, no matter what. whatever might have blossomed between you, if it ever did, had to come naturally, unburdened by guilt or pretense.
but in those moments, when the air between you grew thick with something more, a quiet voice inside you would pull you back. it reminded you of the messy knots still holding your heart in place, the wounds that hadnât yet healed. you couldnât move forwardânot yet. not while your heart was still tangled with baekhyun.
chanyeol, always the gentleman, never pushed. he was patient, always aware of your needs, always respectful of the boundaries you set. when you needed to talk, he listened; when you needed space, he gave it. but in the quiet of his own heart, he couldnât help but feel more for you than he allowed himself to admit. how could he not? you were beautiful, strong, and a devoted mother. you embraced nari as your own, and in doing so, you made his heart ache in ways he couldnât express. even knowing your heart was still tethered to someone else, he couldnât stop himself from wishingâjust for a momentâthat maybe, just maybe, one day youâd find your way to him.
he carried that silent ache with the kind of grace only he could muster, never letting it slip, even as it quietly wore at him, just a little more each day.
so when you texted himâasking if he could pick up minji, keeping the explanation vague, not wanting him to worryâhe was there. barely ten minutes later, a soft knock at your door echoed through the silence.
when you opened it, his wide eyes met the mess that was youâmascara streaks trailing down your cheeks, a crumpled tissue clenched in your trembling hand. you tried to muster a smile, but it felt paper-thin, your voice weak and brittle. âyeolie? whatâs up?âÂ
the words barely left your lips before he froze in place, his expression shifting from confusion to alarm. âa-are you okay? whatâs going on? did someoneâdid something happen? is minji okay? are you sick? do you need me to take you to the hospital?â his voice cracked, the flood of questions spilling out in rapid succession, his panic tangible.
you stepped aside, pulling the door open wider, silently inviting him in. he didnât hesitate, stepping through, his gaze glued to yours like he was searching for answers in your tear-stained face.
he trailed behind you to the couch, his presence steady and grounding as you collapsed onto the cushions, tears streaming freely. through shaky breaths, you unraveled the tangled mess of your dayâthe awkward reunion, the jumbled emotions, the weight of everything that seemed to be crumbling all at once. you didnât dare admit the jealousy clawing at your chest, the hollow ache that filled you when baekhyun spoke about his fiancĂ©e with such love. that part you kept tucked away, too raw, too humiliating to expose.
chanyeol sat beside you, his towering frame a comforting shadow as he listened. really listened. his hand moved in soothing circles along your back, a silent reassurance that he wasnât going anywhere.Â
your words poured out, no longer confined to just the events of the day but expanding into everythingâthe years that had passed, the guilt that had burrowed deep and refused to let go. every regret, every misstep, every weight youâd carried alone spilled out in a torrent of tears and confessions. and chanyeol just sat there, unwavering, holding space for you in the way only a true friend could.
âhey,â he began, his voice soft yet steady, as if anchoring you in the storm of your own thoughts. that signature dimpled smile appeared, warm and reassuring, carrying a kindness that made your chest tighten. âno oneâs perfect,â he said, his gaze locking with yours, as though he could see the weight of your regret. âitâs okay to have moments you wish you could take back. you donât need to have it all figured out right nowâjust take it one step at a time, yeah? what matters is where you go from here, and i know youâll choose the right path.âÂ
his hand brushed against yours, grounding you further. âno matter what, nari and i will always be here. for you and minji. youâre not in this alone.â
you swallowed hard, his words cutting through the mess of emotions tangled in your chest. the sincerity in his voice, the unwavering warmth in his eyesâit was almost too much. you nodded slowly, blinking back the tears threatening to spill.Â
âthank you,â you whispered, your voice barely audible, but you knew he heard it. âi donât even know if i deserve this kind of support... but it means everything. truly.â Â
your fingers fidgeted with the edge of your sleeve, the weight of his reassurance settling over you like a safety net. the corner of your lips lifted into the faintest smile, a flicker of gratitude breaking through your doubt. âandâŠthank you, yeollie. for always being here for us.âÂ
he pulled you into a hug, the kind only chanyeol could giveâone that made you feel like you were wrapped in the coziest, softest blanket on the coldest day. his size alone made it impossible not to feel safe, like he could shield you from the entire world. Â
"stay put," he murmured, his voice low and soothing against your hair. "iâll go pick up the girls. how about we pick up a pizza on the way home? maybe a bottle of wine to go with it?"Â Â
you couldnât help the small laugh that bubbled up, the weight on your chest lifting just enough to let it out. "yeah... iâd like that. thanks, yeol."Â Â
he grinned as he stood, his steps sure and familiar as he moved to the fridge. the sound of the door opening and bottles clinking against each other filled the room. when he returned, he handed you one of the water bottles, twisting the cap off for you with ease. Â
"drink up," he said, flicking a finger gently under your chin to tilt your head up, a playful glint in his eyes. "donât need you passing out on me from dehydration."Â Â
his teasing tone, coupled with the affection in his gesture, made your heart feel a little lighter. you took the bottle from him, your fingers brushing his briefly, and for the first time all day, you felt a spark of comfort.
later that night, minji lay tucked beneath her soft quilt, her favorite bunny held close to her chest. the warm glow of the nightlight painted her face in soft hues, the shadows dancing gently across her room like a lullaby. you leaned over her small form, pressing a tender kiss to her forehead. "i love you," you whispered, your voice a soothing murmur. "sleep tight, bun."
as your hand hovered over the light switch, her voice stopped you in your tracks, delicate yet filled with curiosity. "hey, mommy," she called, her tone innocent and thoughtful. "why does that doctor from earlier call you that, too?"
the question struck a chord deep within you, freezing you for a moment as your heart stumbled over itself. turning back toward her, you forced a smile, smoothing the sudden tension coiling in your chest. walking slowly to her bedside, you perched at the edge, meeting her wide, trusting eyes. "well," you started softly, your voice steady despite the fluttering unease within. "like dr. byun said, he's a really good friend of mine. thatâs where i got your nickname, too."
her face lit up, her small smile so pure it made your heart ache. she nodded slowly, processing your words in that way only children can, her gaze thoughtful yet brimming with trust. "he was nice," she said, her tone sweet and certain. "i really liked him."
"yeah?" you asked, crouching down so your eyes were level with hers, the warmth of her sincerity wrapping around you like a blanket. her simple joy tugged at something tender within you. "would you like to see him again?"
her smile widened, blooming like the sun breaking through clouds. excitement sparkled in her eyes, her whole face lighting up in a way that mirrored her love for ice cream on hot afternoons. she nodded vigorously, her enthusiasm bubbling over.Â
"uh-huh!" she chirped, her joy infectious, spreading a flicker of warmth through your own heart.
you couldnât help but laugh, the sound soft and full of love. "okay, bunny," you said, tucking a stray strand of hair behind your ear, your voice tender. "sleep tight, 'kay?" you pressed another soft kiss to her forehead, lingering for a moment, before turning off the light. the door clicked shut softly behind you.
standing in the hallway, your back against the cool wall, you let out a long, shaky breath, the weight of the day settling heavily in your chest. the silence was broken by a ping from your phone, pulling you out of your thoughts. you stared at the screen, the light illuminating your face as a new message appeared.
baekhyun:
thank you for today. letâs talk soon about how we move forwardâtogether.
your chest tightened, the words settling over you like a heavy blanket. this was the beginning of something you hadnât seen coming, something that made your pulse race with equal parts fear and exhilaration.Â
you responded quickly, almost without thinking:
you free tomorrow to go over details?
the path ahead was a little scary and clouded with uncertainty, but one thing was for sure: baekhyun was here, and he wasnât going anywhere.
baekhyun and minji bonded quicker than you ever imagined. their first playdate was a sunny afternoon at the park, where baekhyun seemed completely absorbed in her. every giggle, every burst of energy as she dashed between slides and swings, every scrunched-nose smile lit up his face. it was as if he was trying to memorize every little detail about her, committing her essence to memory. minji, ever the social butterfly, welcomed him without hesitationâjust as she did her classmates, her teachers, and even chanyeol.
chanyeol.
his name slipped into your thoughts uninvited, a shadow that tugged at your focus. why were you thinking about him now? you blinked hard, shaking the thought away. the last thing you needed was to let another layer of complication invade your already chaotic emotions.
then came that afternoon. baekhyun had come to drop minji off at your place, the usual familiarity of the moment interrupted by the unexpected. when the door swung open, it wasnât you standing thereâit was chanyeol.
âbaekhyun, right?â chanyeol greeted him warmly, his easy smile bright enough to momentarily disarm. his dimple pressed deep into his cheek, as if it was carved there just for moments like this. snapping his fingers in playful recognition, he added, âiâve heard so much about you.â he gestured casually over his shoulder, as if to invite baekhyun in. âiâm chanyeol. and thatâs nari over there.â
baekhyun froze, the weight of the moment pressing down on him like an invisible force. for a split second, his expression faltered, eyes flickering to the cheerful little girl in the background, her laughter filling the air. then, his gaze shifted back to chanyeol, studying him with a quiet intensity. there was something unspoken in the air between them, subtle yet impossible to ignoreâa tension that lingered like a low hum.
his eyes darted past chanyeol, chest tightening as they landed on you. you were seated on the floor, cross-legged, a radiant smile stretching across your face as you and nari played with minjiâs toys. the sound of your laughter, bright and unguarded, hit him square in the chest, stirring something raw and vulnerable deep inside him. you looked so at ease, as if the joy spilling from you was effortless, untouched by the weight of the past.
âhi, chanyeol!â minjiâs voice rang out, cutting through the fog of his thoughts. her tiny arms stretched toward the tall man, her excitement spilling over in a cheerful squeal.
chanyeol didnât hesitate, scooping her up with the ease of someone whoâd done it a hundred times before. âi missed you!â minji giggled, wrapping her small arms tightly around his neck.
âi missed you too, bun,â chanyeol replied with a wide grin, holding her close.
baekhyunâs stomach twisted, the word hitting him like a slap. bun. his nickname for her. noâtheir nickname. a sharp possessiveness surged through him, hot and consuming. did chanyeol call you that too? the thought crept in like a poison, making his jaw tighten. it was irrational, and yet it burned, carving out a hollow ache in his chest.
you stood then, walking toward them, your smile warm and glowing like the softest light. chanyeol still had minji perched on his hip, cradling her as if she were his own. he leaned in, planting an exaggerated, playful kiss on her cheek, earning a burst of delighted giggles from her.
the sound, the sight of it allâyour ease, minjiâs trust, chanyeolâs familiarityâbrought baekhyun to the edge. his chest tightened, his breathing shallow, and for a brief, unsteady moment, he felt like he might collapse under the weight of it. the life he wanted was right in front of him, his life, and yet, it felt just out of reach.
âi missed you, bunny,â you murmured, your fingers tenderly brushing through her soft, dark hair. minji tilted her head up to you, her eyes glittering like tiny stars. then she turned to him, her small hand waving eagerly. âbye, baekhyun!â she chirped, her voice bright and pure, her little toothy grin so heartbreakingly innocent it nearly brought him to his knees.
baekhyunâs chest tightened, the pressure unbearable. how could something so sweet hurt so much?
you stepped closer, and for a fleeting moment, baekhyun forgot how to breathe. your smile was warm, easy, and devastatingly familiarâa smile that used to be his. it softened the tension hanging in the air, but to him, it cut deeper than any blade.
âthanks for picking her up from daycare,â you said, your voice gentle, almost apologetic. the sincerity in your tone slipped past every defense heâd tried to build since that day you walked back into his life. âdid you wanna come inside for a bit? we usually do taco tuesdays with chanyeol and nari. youâre more than welcome to join us.â
your words were casual, but the invitation felt anything but. âi think itâd be great, actually,â you added, your voice bright with optimism. âsince chanyeolâs been in minjiâs life for a little over a year now.â
the floor seemed to tilt beneath him. his body stiffened, and a violent twist gripped his heart. chanyeol. a year. the words echoed mercilessly in his mind, louder and louder until they drowned out everything else. he wanted to tell you no, to scream it, to tell you heâd rather rip his chest open and claw his heart out than walk into that house and see the life you were building without him. a life that looked so perfect. a life where he was nothing but a footnote.
instead, he forced a smileâthin, hollow, the kind of smile that only deepened the cracks in his façade. it was nothing more than a mask, a feeble attempt to conceal the storm raging beneath his skin. âiâm actually in a hurry,â he said, the words stiff and unnatural as they stumbled off his tongue. âgotta get to the clinic.â
a lie, plain and simple. it came too easily, slipping past his lips like second nature. the instant it escaped, he felt the sick churn of regret twisting in his stomach, his voice betraying him with a clipped edge he couldnât quite hide.
your head tilted slightly, confusion flickering across your face like a shadow. âdidnât you guys already close for the day?â you asked, your brows knitting together in that subtle way that always made his chest ache. âitâs past six.â
his pulse stuttered, a silent curse tumbling through his mind as he fumbled for an answer that wouldnât shatter the fragile distance he was desperately clinging to. but nothing came. nothing convincing enough. nothing that didnât feel like quicksand.
his feet shifted instinctively, retreating before his resolve could crumble further. âcharts and prescriptions and... you know, stuff,â he mumbled, taking an awkward step back. âiâll see you later.â
before you could say another word, he turned, walking briskly toward his car. his steps were measured, his pride refusing to let him break into a full-on sprint, even as his heart hammered like a war drum. every step felt heavier than the last, the weight of his lie and your confusion pressing down on him like a vice.
he didnât dare look back. if he did, he knew he wouldnât have the strength to keep going.
from behind him, minjiâs giggles rang out like music, the sound breaking through the thickness in the air. you were pressing playful kisses to her cheeks, your exaggerated smooches sending her into a fit of laughter.
it was almost too much. the sceneâthe two of you together, so natural, so perfectâmade his knees weak. he gripped the handle of his car door and paused, his chest heaving as he fought the urge to look back. to stay.
but he didnât. he slid into the driverâs seat and pulled away, leaving behind the ache that followed him everywhere you and minji werenât.
as baekhyun drove away, his grip on the steering wheel tightened until his knuckles turned a stark white. the image of you standing there with chanyeol and the two girlsâyour girlsâseared into his mind, an indelible mark he couldnât shake. you looked like a perfect family, like something pulled straight out of a dream. but for baekhyun, it was nothing short of a nightmare.
every mile he put between himself and your door pressed harder on the ache in his chest. his thoughts roared louder than the hum of the engine, drowning out everything but one relentless truth: that shouldâve been me.
he couldnât keep doing thisâliving in the fragile shell of a life that barely held him together. pretending he was fine without you, without minji. pretending that every day apart wasnât hollow, wasnât agony. each moment away from the two of you felt like a wound he couldnât heal, the kind that gnawed at him constantly, leaving him restless and raw.
he dragged a trembling hand through his hair as the silence around him became unbearable. pacing the length of his living room later that night, his mind was still trapped back at your doorstep. he could hear your laugh echoing in his ears, the way it always lit up every corner of his world. the memory of your voice, soft and full of meaning, saying his name. minjiâs tiny hands gripping his, her trust as effortless as her love. every memory sharpened the longing, the undeniable knowledge that you were his. you always had been. and yet, here he wasâstuck in a life that felt like it belonged to someone else.
it wasnât fair. not to him. not to you. and certainly not to her. the woman waiting for him at home, wearing the ring he had slipped onto her finger when he was too weak to face the truth. she deserved more. she deserved better. she deserved a man who wasnât haunted by another womanâs smile, another childâs laughter.
his fists clenched at his sides as the weight of his choices bore down on him. guilt dug into him like a blade, twisting with every second. and yet, beneath it all, one truth burned brighter than anything else: he needed you. he needed you and minji, your warmth, your chaos, the life you had created without him.
he could feel it unraveling, the lie he was clinging to. every passing day stretched it thinner, threatening to snap. and when it did, he wasnât sure what would be left of himâonly that it wouldnât be enough without you.
after a few more park playdates, you invited baekhyun over for dinner. when he arrived, he held two bouquetsâone vibrant and blooming for you, and a smaller, delicate arrangement for minji. Â
minjiâs face lit up as she clutched her flowers, her excitement spilling over as she helped baekhyun carefully arrange them in vases. you watched from the kitchen, your hands busy with dinner but your heart quietly swelling at the sight of them together.Â
dinner came and went in a blur of laughter and easy conversation. afterward, baekhyun insisted on helping clean up, minji trailing behind him like his little shadow. yet through it all, you couldnât ignore the way his gaze lingered on youâsoft, almost yearning. and every time you caught him, heâd quickly look away, his cheeks tinged with a hint of pink. Â
you tried to brush it off, convincing yourself it was nothing. that the bouquet meant nothing. but your heart betrayed you, skipping a beat every time your eyes met. your cheeks warmed under his gaze, though you told yourself it was absurd. heâs engaged, you reminded yourself firmly. heâs in love with someone else. itâs not you anymore. it hasnât been for years.
later, baekhyun offered to get minji ready for bed, his enthusiasm lighting up the room. he approached each part of her bedtime routine with such careâa playful splash during her bath, patient encouragement as she brushed her teeth, and a warm smile as he read her a bedtime story. Â
you stood in the hallway, listening to her giggles and his gentle voice, your chest tightening with a mix of emotions you couldnât quite name.
you walked back to the kitchen, the soft hum of the house wrapping around you as you reached for the wine bottle. the deep red liquid swirled as you poured it into two glasses, the rich aroma curling in the air. baekhyun had worked magic tonight, easing a rowdy toddler into sleep as if it were the simplest thing in the world. the image of him tucking minji in still lingered in your mindâa quiet smile on his face, his touch gentle but sure.
you thought about all the time you and minji had been spending with baekhyun lately felt like something out of a dream. it was everything youâd ever wished for but never thought youâd have. he slipped so seamlessly into her world, as if heâd always been there. their bond was undeniableâtickle fights that left her squealing with laughter, quiet moments where she leaned into him with absolute trust. watching them together only deepened the ache in your chest, the one that whispered how foolish youâd been to keep her from him for so long. Â
you told him as much one late afternoon, after a long stroll through the park. minji had fallen asleep in his arms, her little body spent from an afternoon of running through the playground while he chased her, pretending to be some silly monster. her tiny cheek squished against his shoulder, her breath soft and steady as she drooled onto his jacket. the two of you had laughed quietly, careful not to wake her. Â
âguess sheâs making up for all the times it was you she drooled on instead,â he teased with a smirk, his voice warm and low. Â
it was in that fragile, golden moment that the words youâd been holding back tumbled out. âbaekhyun, i... iâve been feeling so awful. iâm not saying this for pity, i justâevery time i see you with her, the guilt claws at me. i canât believe i kept her from you for so longâŠiâm so sorry.â Â
your voice cracked, and then there were tearsâhot, stinging, relentless. Â
baekhyun stopped in his tracks, his steps crunching against the gravel path as he gently grabbed your arm. his touch was firm but steady, grounding. he turned you to face him, his gaze steady, unwavering. Â
âhey,â he said softly, his voice pulling you out of your spiral. âwhat matters is now. and the future. i trust you, and i know you wonât keep her from me again. iâve forgiven you... but maybe itâs time you forgave yourself.â Â
his words settled over you like a balm, soothing and unyielding, and for the first time in what felt like forever, the weight of your guilt began to feel a little lighter.Â
youâre pulled from your thoughts by the soft click of her bedroom door, the quiet shuffle of baekhyunâs steps filling the silence as he makes his way toward you. you know the sound of his walk so well, even after all these years. itâs comforting, familiarâthe same measured rhythm, the same ease. in so many ways, he hasnât changed. his laugh, his warm personality, the way his eyes crinkle into crescent moons when he smiles. Â
âsheâs out,â he announces from the hallway, his voice soft but tinged with satisfaction as he spots you at the dining table. Â
you hand him the glass of wine youâd poured moments before, holding it out like a peace offering. âthis is for all your hard work,â you tease, a light grin tugging at your lips. Â
he chuckles, the sound low and warm as he takes the glass from your hand, his fingers grazing yours for a fleeting second. the touch sends a jolt of electricity through you, unexpected but unmistakable, and you quickly avert your gaze, staring down at the table like it holds all the answers. Â
he settles into the chair beside you, close enough that you can feel the faint warmth radiating from him. you sip your wine, trying to steady yourself, before speaking. âso... have you and soo talked about setting up a time to meet her?â Â
his face shifts at the mention of her name. the change is subtle but tellingâa flicker of discomfort, the kind you canât unsee once you notice it. Â
âyeah,â he says after a pause, his fingers fidgeting with the stem of the wine glass. he takes a sip before continuing, his tone quieter now. âi actually wanted to talk to you about her.â Â
your heart sinks, unease settling in your chest like a stone. âoh?â you ask, cautious. âis everything okay?â Â
the worst thoughts swirl in your mind, a storm of possibilities. maybe she doesnât want baekhyun spending time with minji. maybe sheâs uncomfortable with you being part of the equation. Â
he exhales sharply, his thumb brushing against the rim of the glass. âyeah... i mean, i guess.â thereâs a pause, a weight to his words that makes you hold your breath. âthe engagementâs been called off.â his voice is steady, almost too steady, as if rehearsed. Â
your jaw drops before you can stop it. the shock is written all over your face, and baekhyun winces at your reaction, his gaze darting away. you quickly compose yourself, snapping your mouth shut as heat rises to your cheeks. âwhat happened?â you blurt, the words spilling out before you can think twice. âyou seemed... so happy.â Â
your voice falters, and for a moment, you wonder if youâve overstepped. the weight of your question lingers between you, heavy and unspoken, and you brace yourself for whatever comes next.Â
âi was. or... at least, i thought i was,â he says, his voice low and almost hesitant, as if heâs afraid to admit it even to himself. his hand moves to his hair, ruffling it in that familiar way he always did when the weight of his thoughts pressed too hard on him. a reflex, a habit you never forgot.
âand then you walked back into my life.â his voice is quiet, but thereâs a rawness to it, like heâs pulling the words straight from the deepest part of him. your breath hitches, the air between you growing unbearably still as his gaze locks onto yours. thereâs something in his eyesâsomething aching, desperate, like heâs trying to hold himself together while unraveling all at once.
âwith her,â he continues, his voice breaking just enough to make your chest tighten, âthis little girl whoâs... everything. everything i didnât know i was missing. sheâs you and me, all tangled up in the most perfect way.â he swallows hard, his jaw clenching as though heâs fighting to steady himself. âand suddenly, nothing else makes sense anymore. not without you. not without her.â
the moment those words left his lips, the air seemed to shift. everything stilledâthe hum of the world faded into silence, leaving only the thunderous echo of your heartbeat in your ears. had he really said that? the words hung between you, raw and unguarded, threatening to unravel everything you thought you understood. Â
his eyes searched yours, hesitant but resolute, as if willing you to see the truth in his gaze. when he spoke again, his voice softened, carrying a weight that made your breath hitch. âand the more time i spent with you both... the more i realized youâre what i want. you and minji. youâre what i really want in my life.â Â
his confession hit you with the force of a tidal wave, knocking the air from your lungs. you felt the ground tilt beneath you, the walls youâd carefully built around your heart quaking under the pressure of his words. Â
âbaekhyunâŠâ you whispered, your voice barely audible, your chest tightening as you forced yourself to ask, âare you⊠are you serious?â Â
but you already knew the answer. you could see it, clear as day, in the way his gaze didnât waver.Â
âwe can take our time⊠start slow,â baekhyun exhales, his voice carrying the weight of his confession as if it had been lodged in his chest for years. the vulnerability in his tone is raw, unguarded, and it almost makes you forget to breathe. âi mean⊠if thatâs what you want, too.â Â
his words trail off, and for a moment, his usual confidence falters. a quiet doubt creeps into his thoughtsâwhat if youâve moved on? what if you donât want this? the possibility churns in his mind, making him feel smaller, suddenly unsure. Â
âsorry,â he blurts out, shaking his head, gaze dropping to the floor. âi shouldnât have said thatââ Â
âno,â you interrupt, your voice firm but gentle, grounding him. your hand finds his, your fingers curling around his in a touch that feels achingly familiar, as though no time has passed. the warmth of his skin against yours sends a spark racing through your veins, a reassurance you didnât realize you both needed. Â
he looks up, his eyes wide with hesitation, and you hold his gaze. âiâd⊠actually like that,â you admit, your voice softer now, a smile tugging at your lips. âstart slow and see where we go.â Â
his shoulders visibly relax, and the faintest glimmer of hope flickers in his eyes. he squeezes your hand, his thumb brushing over your knuckles, and for the first time in a long time, it feels like the two of you are stepping into something whole and unbroken. Â
two weeks later, you stood in front of your closet, the door wide open and a growing pile of discarded clothes spilling onto the floor.Â
you were getting ready for a date. Â
with baekhyun. Â
your first date as parents. Â
the thought made your stomach flip with nerves and excitement. it felt surreal, almost like stepping into a story you didnât dare dream for yourself. but as much as the idea of this new beginning thrilled you, the reality of your wardrobeâor lack thereofâwas starting to feel like a nightmare. Â
minji was spending the evening with chanyeol and nari, her overnight bag already packed and slung over chanyeolâs shoulder when he came to pick her up. you couldnât miss the way his expression shifted when you told him the reason for the favor, his smile faltering for the briefest second. Â
âitâs just dinner,â youâd explained softly. âweâre taking things slow, seeing where it goes.â Â
chanyeol had nodded, his lips pressing into a tight line. he couldnât quite mask the pain in his eyes, though he tried. Â
âof course,â heâd said eventually, his voice steady despite the storm you could feel brewing beneath. âyou know iâm always here for youâŠand minji.â Â
because that was just who chanyeol wasâa steady, selfless anchor, even when it hurt. Â
now, as you tore through hangers and drawers, you glanced at your phone, a spike of panic shooting through you. less than two hours. how had the time slipped away so fast? Â
you groaned, flopping onto your bed as you stared at the heap of options that just werenât right. nothing screamed âfirst date with the father of your child.â nothing said âiâm nervous but excited and maybe a little terrified but i also want to look stunning.â Â
baekhyun. Â
you imagined the moment baekhyun would arrive, the image of him clear in your mind as if he were already standing at your door. heâd look effortlessly polished, the way only he could manageâlike heâd stepped out of a magazine without even trying. his shirt would probably hug his lean frame just right, the soft fabric teasing at the lines of his shoulders and chest. his hair, always perfectly imperfect, would fall into place with a casualness that made you suspect heâd only run his fingers through it once before heading out. Â
and then there were his eyesâthose warm, honeyed depths that had a way of making the world feel quieter, smaller. they carried a quiet determination now, a depth that hadnât always been there, like the years apart had reshaped him, sharpened his focus. you could almost see the subtle tilt of his lips when he caught sight of you, a smile that wasnât overly practiced but natural, like it belonged there because you did. Â
he never needed much time to get ready, and yet he always looked like he did. that was the thing about baekhyunâeverything about him was easy, seamless, like he existed in his own effortless rhythm. it wasnât about the clothes he chose or the way he styled his hair; it was about the energy he carried, the quiet confidence that drew people in. Â
and tonight, heâd be coming to pick you upânot just as the baekhyun youâd known before, but as someone determined to start fresh, someone who wanted to show you that maybe, just maybe, this could really work out. Â
you exhaled deeply, steadying yourself as you slid off the bed. pull it together, you thought, brushing your curled hair out of your face. tonight wasnât just another eveningâit felt like the start of something new, something tentative and hopeful, and you wanted to look the part. not just for baekhyun, but for yourself. you wanted to feel like the best version of youâthe woman you were before, and the woman you were becoming. Â
your eyes drifted toward the top of your closet, where an old, forgotten box rested among stacks of seasonal items and spare blankets. a spark of hope flickered. you vaguely remembered stuffing your pre-pregnancy clothes up there, unable to let them go but convinced they might never fit again. now, that box felt like a treasure chest waiting to be rediscovered. Â
grabbing a step ladder, you climbed carefully, brushing the thick layer of dust from the boxâs lid before tugging it down. a cloud of nostalgia seemed to escape as you peeled it open. there they wereârows of fabrics, textures, and memories you hadnât touched in years. silky blouses, form-fitting dresses, sleek skirts... all the outfits you used to wear when going out felt like a second skin. Â
you sifted through them, piece by piece, fingers grazing over familiar fabrics as your heart swelled with a mix of apprehension and excitement. you pulled out a sleek dress, holding it up against yourself in the mirror. to your delightâand a little disbeliefâit still fit, hugging your post-pregnancy curves in ways that made you feel both proud and beautiful. Â
you were finishing the last touches on your hair and makeup when the doorbell rang, slicing through the air like a sudden jolt. a flutter of butterflies stirred in your stomach, their wings beating furiously as nerves surged through you all at once. instinctively, you reached for your perfume, spritzing it lightly over your neck, the familiar scent wrapping around you like a soft, comforting embrace. Â
you took a long, steadying breath, eyes tracing your reflection in the mirror, checking every detailâthe delicate curve of your lashes, the soft glow of your skin, the way your lips curved just right. you stepped back, allowing yourself a moment to really see the woman in front of you. had it really been so long since you dressed up like this? for anyone? the question lingered in the air. Â
and then it hit you, clear as day. it had been since baekhyun. a quiet chuckle escaped your lips as you shook your head, bemused by the realization. there was something about tonight that felt different, something about this moment, this new chapter, that made everything feel... significant. Â
with a final glance at your reflection, you straightened up, a soft smile tugging at the corners of your lips. you walked toward the door, each step a little more deliberate, a little more full of purpose. this wasnât just a date. this was something else entirely.
when the door swung open and baekhyun saw you, his breath hitched, the air suddenly too thick to pull into his lungs. his gaze swept over you, deliberate and slow, as if his mind needed time to register every curve, every detail, every shimmer of the fabric that clung to you. his heart thundered in his chest, a wild rhythm he couldnât control, and for a moment, all he could do was stare.
you were devastating. the dressâthat dressâhugged you perfectly, its soft sheen catching the dim hallway light, every subtle movement making it seem alive, as though it had been designed for this exact moment. it was the same one youâd worn before, in a memory he kept locked away for years. back then, youâd twirled in front of him, laughing, your joy so infectious it had carved itself into his soul. seeing it again now, seeing you now, was almost too much.
but this wasnât just a walk down memory lane. this wasnât then. everything was different nowâhe was different, you were different. yet, somehow, that pull between you felt as raw and undeniable as it had the first time heâd laid eyes on you.
except now, you werenât just the girl heâd loved with everything in him, the girl heâd lost, the girl he thought heâd never have again. you were minjiâs mother. his daughterâs mother. and seeing you like thisâso stunning it almost hurtâsent a new kind of longing through him. it wasnât just want, though god, he wanted you. it was need, aching and all-consuming, a yearning that went far beyond physical desire. he needed to prove himself, to prove that he could be more for you, for minji. that this time, he wouldnât let you slip away.
his hands twitched at his sides, desperate to reach for you, to touch, to hold, to pull you close enough to feel the warmth of your body against his. the temptation was staggering, nearly unbearable. his mind flickered with flashes of all the ways he wanted youâhow it would feel to bury his face in your neck, to whisper promises against your skin, to hear you say his name like you used to.
but he held himself back, swallowing hard, locking it all down. not now. he couldnât rush this. he couldnât risk ruining it.
when his eyes met yours, his lips curved into the softest of smiles, one that didnât quite mask the storm of emotions swirling beneath the surface. âyouâŠâ he paused, his voice catching before he found it again. âyou look incredible.â the words came out low, steady, but there was no mistaking the weight behind them.
for a brief second, his eyes dropped back to the dress, his mind betraying him with an image of it lying forgotten on the floor, of you in his arms, of everything he was fighting to keep at bay. the thought made his chest tighten, and he let out a soft chuckle, as if to diffuse the tension he felt coiled so tightly within him.
but he didnât move. not yet. instead, he let the moment stretch, imagining the day when he wouldnât have to hold back, when he wouldnât have to hesitate. when he could love you the way he wanted toâcompletely, without fear, without doubt, without restraint.
after dinner, the two of you strolled back to your place, the night humming with the warmth of shared laughter and lingering glances. the soft glow of streetlights cast a golden sheen over everything, making the world feel dreamlike, almost suspended in time. the wine coursing through your veins made the air lighter, the edges of reality softer, as though nothing truly mattered except the man walking beside you.
when you reached the door, your fingers fumbled with the keys, the metal slipping awkwardly in your grasp. you giggled, a sound so sweet it made baekhyunâs chest tighten. he stood behind you, his presence warm and steady, his hands gently finding their way to your waist. his touch was light, but it burned in the most delicious way.
âneed a hand?â he asked, his voice low, teasing, his breath grazing your ear as he leaned closer.
you turned your head just slightly, your smile playful. âplease,â you murmured, tryingâand failingâto mask the way his closeness made your pulse quicken.
together, you managed to coax the door open, his hand guiding yours with a deliberate slowness that made you shiver. once inside, he closed the door behind him with a quiet click, the sound reverberating through the stillness of the space.
ânightcap?â you asked, your tone casual, though the mischief in your eyes betrayed you. your cheeks were warm, not just from the wine but from the way his gaze lingered, heavy and intent.
baekhyun didnât answer right away. his eyes stayed locked on you, tracing the curve of your cheek, the way your lips curled into that familiar, teasing grin. his gaze dipped lower, lingering on the dress that clung to you like a second skin. that dress. the one he couldnât stop thinking about all night, the one he wanted to peel off you with his teeth.
he swallowed hard, his jaw tightening as he fought to keep himself in check. the air between you thickened, crackling with an unspoken tension. he took a slow, deliberate step closer, the movement barely noticeable, but the way his eyes darkened said everything his lips couldnât.
âyeah,â he finally murmured, his voice low, rough around the edges. âa nightcap sounds good.â
but it wasnât the drink he wanted. no, the only thing he wanted was standing right in front of him, flushed and radiant, looking at him with eyes that could undo him in a heartbeat. every instinct screamed at him to close the space, to kiss you breathless, to pull you into him and never let go. but he didnât. not yet. he was holding onto a thread of control, as thin and fragile as the air between you.
for now, he could wait. but god, you were making it impossible.
he could barely hold himself together, his self-control stretched thinner with each passing second. honestly, he deserved an awardâno, a damn medalâfor the composure he managed to keep throughout dinner. every moment was its own quiet war, every glance from you a calculated blow, every soft laugh a fatal shot to his already fragile defenses. your presence was a sweet, maddening intoxication, pulling him under in waves he couldnât escape.
the way you looked at himâthose eyes full of something gentle, something tender, something that felt like homeâwas almost his undoing. his fingers curled tightly against his thighs, his knuckles blanching as he fought the urge to reach for you. your smile, radiant and unguarded, had him aching in ways he thought heâd forgotten, stirring something raw and desperate in the pit of his stomach. and your voiceâgod, your voiceâdanced through the air, warm and melodic, like the first song heâd ever loved.
and then there were those moments when you looked at him, really looked at him. it was in the softness of your gaze, the way it lingered a second too long, the way it stripped him bare without a single word. it was as if you still saw himâtruly saw himâthe way you used to, back when you were his. that look, full of unspoken truths, clung to him like an echo, whispering things he didnât dare hope for. you still love me. you still love me. the thought struck like lightning, leaving him dazed and breathless, his pulse thundering in his ears.
his chest tightened with the weight of it allâthe yearning, the disbelief, the sheer impossibility of the moment. it was as though everything that had gone wrong, all the time that had stretched between you, suddenly dissolved, rendered meaningless in the face of this. it was just the two of you now, the world fading into a blurry background, holding its breath as if waiting for him to do what every fiber of his being screamed for: close the distance.
the need was relentless, searing through him like fire. his fingers twitched with the urge to touch you, to cradle your face in his hands and trace the contours of your cheek, to see if your skin still felt as soft as he remembered. his lips burned with the craving to kiss you, to taste the laughter that had tormented him all night, to claim the love he had been starving for since the day you walked away.
it had been almost four agonizing years since you left him behind, taking the light of his world with you. he thought heâd buried the pain, that heâd learned to live with the emptiness you left. but now, here you were, so close he could hear the rhythm of your breaths, feel the warmth radiating from your skin. and he realized with a clarity that stole the air from his lungs: none of that pain mattered anymore. not the silence, not the heartbreak, not the years. all that mattered was youâhere, now, in front of him.
his breath hitched at the thought, and he found himself imagining what it would feel like when he finally kissed you again. his lips hovering just inches from yours, the space between you crackling with tension. he could already feel the pull, that same magnetic connection that had always been there, waiting for the moment he could touch you. and when their lips finally met, he knewâhe knewâit would be just like before. that same sweetness, that same softness, the curve of your lips fitting perfectly against his, like you were always meant to belong to him.
no one had ever kissed him the way you did. no one else had ever left him breathless, drowning in the intensity of it, as if your kiss had the power to remake him. and god, he wanted it again. needed it.
he wanted you, wanted you so badly, the need pooling in his chest, a hot, tight ache he couldnât ignore. he could already taste you, feel the warmth of your lips beneath his. he remembered how your kiss had once made him feel weightless, like he was falling into something beautiful, intoxicating. it was all heâd thought about the entire night.Â
and the way you looked now, that dress clinging to you like it had all those years ago, just made him ache even more. he couldnât stop the images running through his mindâripping it off of you, feeling your body pressed against his, tasting the sweetness of your kiss once again, just like he had done so many times before. the desire to feel you underneath him, to bury himself in the softness of you, was almost unbearable. he wanted it. he wanted you.
but instead, he nodded, swallowing the lump in his throat. âyeah,â he breathed, his voice thick with barely contained longing, âyeah, a nightcap sounds good.âÂ
his fingers twitched, wanting nothing more than to touch you, but he held himself back, feeling the heat rise between you both, a tension so thick it was almost unbearable.
"here, let me pour the drinks for us," he murmured, his voice low and steady as he took your jacket and purse, hanging them with a quiet care on the coat rack.Â
you raised an eyebrow, teasing, "oh?" the corners of your lips twitched, fighting back a smile as you bit your bottom lip. your lashes fluttered lightly, casting delicate shadows across your cheeks as you met his gaze. "iâm just getting spoiled tonight, arenât i?" you teased, the memory of how he'd practically wrestled the check from your hands earlier still fresh in your mind. it made you laugh softly, a sound that seemed to melt into the air.
but before you could say anything more, he was there, his hand coming up instinctively to cup your cheek. the warmth of his touch sent a shiver down your spine, his thumb brushing lightly against the softness of your skin, tracing the curve of your cheek, your chin, and finally resting just below your lower lip. his touch was so gentle, so deliberate, and yet it stirred something deeper inside youâa quiet yearning that you were both trying to contain.Â
you met his eyes, searching his face, knowing the unspoken truth before he even voiced it. you could see itâthe way his gaze lingered, the way his breath hitched just slightly as he studied you. he wanted to kiss you. you could feel the tension rising, thick and palpable between you, but still, he held back, the weight of restraint pressing on him.
not wanting to push him, you offered him a sweet, reassuring smile, the kind that spoke of understanding without words. the sight of it seemed to stop him in his tracks, and his heart skipped a beat, his breath catching in his throat.Â
baekhyunâs lips curved into a playful smirk. âspoiled?â he echoed, leaning in just slightly, enough for his voice to drop a fraction, rich and smooth. âcâmon, bun, iâm sure you remember what me spoiling you really looks like.â
his words hit like a soft nudge to a locked door, memories rushing in before you could stop them. you remembered the way he used to spoil you relentlessly back in college, how his love language seemed to be written in lavish gifts and thoughtful gestures. designer handbags you could never justify buying for yourself, delicate jewelry that always seemed to match the sparkle in his eyes when he fastened the clasps himself.
heâd surprise you with new outfits for events you didnât even know youâd be attending until he planned themâyour wardrobe practically transformed by his generosity. every time the newest iphone dropped, heâd make sure it was in your hands within days, complete with a customized case he knew youâd love. heâd slip his card to waiters or store clerks before you could even think to pay.
and then there were the practical things, like covering your car payments or arranging maintenance before you even realized you needed it, his way of taking care of you without ever making you feel small for it. he never wanted you to stress, and youâd laugh at the absurdity of it all while secretly melting at the way he seemed to know what you needed before you did.
baekhyun had money. plenty of it. his familyâs wealth wasnât something he flaunted, but it was there, shaping the way he provided for you. your family wasnât poor, but you didnât have the same financial ease. you worked hard for the things you had, but baekhyun never made you feel less than, never made you uncomfortable about it. his quiet humility and the way he never flaunted his wealth made it all feel normalâmoney was never the issue. it was always about the love you shared.
you swallowed hard, heat creeping up your neck as you met his gaze again. his eyes were on you now, softer but still teasing, as if he could tell exactly where your thoughts had gone. âbesidesâ he murmured, brushing a loose strand of hair from your face, his touch lingering just a moment longer than necessary. âiâm just making up for lost time. can you blame me?â
one glass turned into two, then three, each sip loosening the tension in the air, but also building something new between you, something heady and electric. laughter spilled from your lips, the sound light and careless, but underneath it, a growing warmth that neither of you could ignore. the night seemed to blur around the edges, the wine clouding your thoughts, making everything softer, more daring.Â
the bottles emptied one by one, their presence a witness to the hours that had melted away as you lingered in each otherâs company. the glasses tipped over, forgotten, their contents pooling on the floor like spilled memories. it didnât matter. nothing mattered except the way he looked at youâintensely, as if every part of him was drawn to you in a way that left him no choice but to pull you closer.Â
and then, he kissed you.
it was slow at first, almost tentative, like he was relearning the shape of your lips, the rhythm of your breath. but it didnât stay that way for long. in an instant, the kiss deepened, the years of separation melting into a blur of heat and urgency. his hands found your waist, pulling you closerâcloser, until you were climbing into his lap, your legs straddling him without hesitation.
his mouth was scorching, addictive, just like you remembered. it was the taste of him, rich like wine but unmistakably himâa flavor you thought youâd buried, but now you realized you could never forget. his kisses were messy, hungry, each one leaving you breathless as soft moans and breathless whimpers slipped between you. his hands roamed with purpose, sliding down to cup your ass, pulling you flush against him. his grip was firm, possessive, so achingly familiar that it made your head spin.
you felt the growing bulge beneath you, hard and urgent, straining against his pants. the pressure sent a sharp jolt of need straight to your core, igniting a fire you couldnât ignore. warmth pooled between your legs, soaking you as your hips rocked instinctively against him. a deep, guttural groan escaped him, vibrating against your lips as you kissed him harder, hungrier.
âi missed you,â you breathed, the words tumbling from your lips as they traveled to the curve of his neck. you nipped at the sensitive skin below his ear, the spot you knew drove him wild. sure enough, a soft, desperate moan spilled from him, and you smiled against his skin, savoring the sound of him unraveling beneath you.
"i love you, bun," he whispered, his voice soft yet heavy with meaning, a tremor of raw emotion in every word. his gaze, unwavering and intense, locked onto yours, as if he could reach inside you with just a look. his lips brushed yours, so lightly it almost felt like a delicate promise. "i... i donât think i ever stopped."
the words crashed into you, like a wave breaking against the shore, unexpected yet inevitable. your heart skipped, breath caught in your chest as the depth of his confession wrapped around you, pulling you under. "i love you, too, baekhyun," you breathed, your voice barely more than a whisper, but steadyâanchored in the truth that had always been there, buried beneath the years of silence. "i never stopped."
and then, his lips were on yours again, and it was as if the world snapped back into place, the pieces aligning with the force of your shared confession. finally, it felt like home. like you were where you were always meant to be. your body responded instinctively, moving closer, desperate to feel the heat that had always simmered between you two. you ground against him, slow, deliberate, an aching need rising in you both. the friction between you sent jolts of electricity through your veins, a fire sparking to life as you felt him tense beneath you, his hands tightening on your hips.
for a brief moment, you thought he'd pull you in fully, lose himself in the moment as much as you were. but instead, his body went rigid, stilling beneath you as if every muscle had locked in place.
"waitâ" his voice cracked, the sound thick with a dangerous mix of yearning and restraint. his hands stilled your movements, holding you in place. you could feel his chest rise and fall beneath you, shallow breaths betraying the storm inside him. "i donât want to pressure you into anything youâre not ready for. i know we agreed to take things slow. i can wait."
his words cut through the haze of your desire, stopping you dead in your tracks. the sincerity in his eyes hit you like a tidal wave. he was holding backâfor you.Â
for you.Â
the ache in your chest was sharp, but in the best possible way.
without saying a word, you reached down, sliding his hand beneath your dress, guiding him to where you were already burning. his breath caught when his fingers brushed against your bare skin. his eyes widened, shock crossing his features as he realized you werenât wearing anything underneath.
"feel how wet youâve made me?" you whispered, your lips grazing his ear, your voice low, sultry, teasing. the way his chest moves as his breathing becomes more deeper, heavier as if itâs taking everything in him not to put his fingers to work on that sloppy cunt of yours. you could feel his restraint fraying, and you couldnât help but smile.
"still think i wanna take things slow?" you teased, your thumb tracing the curve of his bottom lip, urging him to act.
you could feel his body tremble under your touch, his hands shaking slightly as he adjusted, his fingers just barely grazing where you needed him most. the hunger in his eyes was almost unbearable, and you leaned in closer, brushing your lips over his jaw, waiting for him to break.
his composure shattered. his eyes fluttered shut as you brought his slick-coated fingers to your mouth, your tongue swirling around them slowly, deliberately. the taste of yourself on him was heady, and you sucked his fingers clean, the act sending a shiver down his spine.
âfuck,â he groaned, his voice thick with hunger. âya sure about this, bun?â each syllable a desperate plea as his restraint teetered dangerously close to breaking.
you nodded, eyes wide and shimmering with a mix of innocence and promise. your lashes fluttered like the softest caress as you looked up at him, lips swollen and bruised from his fevered kisses, a delicate pout lingering on them. the sight of made his dick twitch. âalways been sure when it comes to you, baek.â
the words hit him like a wave, and with a shuddering sigh, he couldnât hold back anymore. his lips crashed against yours, possessive and hungry, claiming you as if heâd never get another chance. one arm wrapped around your head, fingers threading through your hair with a desperate need, while the other hand slid to your ass, squeezing it roughly. his grip tightened, a subtle warning, but you could feel the way his muscles strained, the raw tension in his touch. every press of his fingers into your skin felt like a brand, like he was marking you, anchoring himself to you. his touch was a blaze, a wildfire that scorched you in the best way, pulling you closer as if he couldnât bear an inch of distance.
and then the world tilted.
with a surge of power and urgency, he lifted you without hesitationâstrong, commanding, as though he was claiming you in the most primal of ways. a breathless gasp escaped your lips, the sound of surprise barely escaping before his hands cradled you, holding you as if you were made of something more fragile than glass. he held you with reverence, but there was an edge to it, a possessiveness that promised he would never let you go.
his breath is heavy against your neck, warm and uneven, betraying the restraint heâs barely holding onto. your body is pressed tightly to his chest, his heart pounding against yours, every beat echoing the unspoken promises that linger in the air. each step he takes toward your bedroom is deliberate, charged, as though the distance is unbearable, as if he canât get you there fast enough.Â
"shit," he muttered, his voice rough and low as he lowered you onto the edge of your bed. the realization hit him like a tidal wave, cold and relentless, stealing his focus. his gaze flickered to yours, a storm of panic swirling in his eyes. âi didnât bring any condoms. do you⊠do you have any?â
his question lingered in the air, heavy and unspoken, cutting deeper than the surface. the knot in his stomach tightened, the thought of someone else touching you during the time apart clawing at his insides. he hated the idea more than he cared to admit.
your laughter cut through the tension, soft but laced with something playful, a gentle ring that seemed to fill the space between you. "no, baek," you replied, your voice a breathless melody. "i havenât had sexâwell, any action, reallyâsince you." the confession slipped out before you could stop it, and though a blush bloomed on your cheeks, you held his gaze. there was a flicker of vulnerability in your eyes, but it only made his heart race faster.
his breath hitched audibly, and for a moment, the world seemed to stop. his heartbeat thundered in his ears, his chest rising and falling with the weight of your words. âyouâre serious?â he whispered, disbelief laced with something elseâpride. his lips curved upward into a slow, cocky grin, the kind that made your stomach flip. the thought of you untouched by anyone else since him fed something primal, something possessive.
you nodded, your teeth sinking into your lip like you were weighing the impact of your words. embarrassment rushed to your neck, but it was quickly replaced by the heat of his stare. it burned through you, molten and unwavering, making your heart thrum harder with every passing second.
âfuck,â he rasped, the word almost guttural, like he couldnât contain the surge of raw emotion. it was your turn to smile, a cocky glint lighting up your eyes. but when he spoke again, the weight of his confession hit you harder than you expected.
"i havenât gone raw in anyone since you."
the words hung heavy in the air, suffocating with meaning. the way he said it, so casually, like it was a fact that only made sense in the world he had built around you, made your pulse spike. it was everythingâthe promise, the truth. your knees weakened at the depth of his gaze, molten like a fire you couldnât escape.
"dâya trust me, bun?" he whispered, voice low, the words slipping from his lips with a possessive kind of hunger.
you swallowed thickly, your breath coming out uneven, heart pounding in your throat. your pulse raced, and despite the weight of his question, you somehow found your voice, breathless and full of raw honesty.
âwith my life.â
his lips curled into that signature, boyish grin that had always undone you, a glint of mischief dancing in his darkened eyes.Â
without hesitation, he closed the distance between you, his hands brushing the smooth, delicate skin of your arms before they drifted to the zipper at your back. in one seamless motion, his fingers tugged at the fabric, pulling your dress down with a fluid grace that seemed almost too effortless, as if heâd done it a thousand times before. the fabric slid off you like a memory, slipping to the floor as he guided you back onto the pillows, leaving you bare under the weight of his gaze.
his breath faltered as he drank you in, his eyes tracing every inch of your skin, the intensity of his hunger for you pressing against him like an ache that made his chest tighten. "god," he breathed out, the word barely escaping his lips as if he was speaking to himself more than to you, his hands gently exploring your exposed body like he was memorizing it, as though each touch could never be repeated.
but then it cameâthe surge of insecurity, creeping in from the edges of your mind like a dark cloud, unwelcome and cold. without thinking, you crossed your arms over your body, your hands instinctively covering the soft curves youâd learned to live with, but had never quite come to accept.
baekhyun saw it instantly. the shift in you, the way you tried to pull away, to hide. his expression softened, his gaze darkening with understanding as he stepped closer. his voice, low and steady, was a balm to your wounded confidence. âdonât you ever feel the need to hide from me,â he murmured, each word laced with an unspoken promise. his hands were gentle, yet firm, as he took hold of your wrists, slowly guiding them away from your body and placing them at your sides. the weight of his touch was reassuring, a silent command for you to trust him, to trust that he saw youâall of youâand that was all he wanted.
his touch was almost ethereal, like a whisper against your skin. his fingertips grazed the curve of your breasts, lingering just long enough to make your breath hitch. âbigger,â he murmured, the word thick with admiration, as if discovering something new about youâsomething heâd always known he wanted. his hands traveled lower, tracing the lines of your waist, feeling the soft expansion of your hips beneath his palms.
when his fingers brushed over the subtle stretch marks on your ass, a low, guttural groan escaped him, the sound vibrating through the air between you. his body tensed, his desire unmistakable, radiating off of him in waves. âgod, youâre so beautiful,â he said, his gaze never leaving the soft, inviting shape of your body, as if memorizing every inch of you.
his hand drifted to your stomach, his finger moving with slow deliberation, drawing a path down the center of your abdomen, a slow, torturous line that set your nerves alight. âyouâre gonna feel me,â he rasped, his voice husky, the words carrying a weight of promise. his thumb pressed gently into the sensitive skin just above your belly button, sending a shiver spiraling through your body. âright here,â he murmured, his eyes locking with yoursâdark, smoldering, intense with intent.
the teasing, the way he looked at you like you were something precious, something intoxicatingâit was too much. your hands clenched at the fabric of his shirt, tugging him closer, the need to feel him overwhelming. without a second thought, your lips crashed against his, urgent and desperate. the kiss was hungry, frantic, your mouths pressing against each other as you fumbled with the fabric of his clothes, your body burning for more.
his laugh rumbled against your lips, the sound low and rich as he pulled back just enough to smirk down at you. âeager, arenât we?âÂ
you didnât miss a beat, your fingers working at his waistband as you bit back, âjust wanna see if you still know how to fuck me properly.â
his laugh deepened, full and throaty, as he shoved his boxers down, freeing his throbbing cock. âglad to see that smart mouth of yours hasnât changed, bun,â he said, his grin wicked. he leaned in, his lips brushing your ear as he added, âiâma have fun puttinâ it to good use later.âÂ
your breath hitched, your heart pounding in anticipation as he pressed closer, the weight of his words and his presence igniting every nerve in your body.Â
he positions himself at your entrance, and your breath catches in your throat, heart pounding so hard you can feel it echo in your ears. the heat radiating from him, the subtle brush of his skin against yours, sends a shiver rippling through your body. his tip, swollen and leaking, nudges against you, dragging slowly through your wetness, teasing with a precision that makes your toes curl.Â
he lingers at your entrance, just barely pressing in before retreating, spreading his precum and your slick together in a maddening rhythm. the sensation of his velvety tip gliding over your folds, grazing your clit, sends jolts of pleasure through your core. every deliberate movement feels like a silent taunt, a reminder of how much heâs savoring this momentâsavoring you.
âbaek, please,â you whimper, your voice trembling, desperate. your fingers clutch the sheets beneath you, nails digging in as if grounding yourself could somehow stave off the overwhelming need building inside you. tears prickle at the corners of your eyes, blurring your vision as the relentless teasing pushes you closer to the edge of begging.
his own restraint is fraying, evident in the way his breath hitches, the way his hands tremble slightly as they grip your hips. he leans down, his forehead resting against yours, his dark eyes smoldering with a mix of lust and longing. âohâ fffuuuccck, i missed you,â he groans, his voice strained, thick with emotion and need.
his words barely register before he begins to push in, his throbbing tip stretching you inch by agonizing inch. the sensation of him filling youâso warm, so familiar yet impossibly intenseâforces a soft gasp from your lips. he exhales sharply, his jaw clenched, savoring every second, every sensation, as though this moment is the only thing that matters in the world.
baekhyunâs gaze flickers to your face, catching the faint wince that creases your features, gone as quickly as it came, but not quick enough to escape him. his brows knit together, his concern palpable, etched into the soft lines of his expression. he stays perfectly still, his body taut with restraint, as if afraid to move and hurt you. the stretch stings, yes, but thereâs something deeper beneath itâa delicious burn that ignites every nerve, leaving you teetering on the edge of pain and pleasure.
âbaby, you good?â his voice is low, soft, a husky murmur that wraps around you like the warmest comfort, his tone threading worry with tenderness, his concern a steady anchor in the haze between you. his dark eyes search yours, flickering with a mix of restraint and hunger, like heâs balancing on the precipice of losing control but refusing to let it happen until youâre ready.
you nod, though your breath catches, a sharp inhale that betrays the lingering ache as you will yourself to adjust. you shift your hips slightly, testing, feeling the stretch give way to something deeper, something raw that tugs at your core and sets your pulse hammering.
he groans, low and guttural, a sound dragged from the depths of his chest as he feels you take him in just a little more. his breath stutters, breaking like a thread pulled too tight, his hands flexing where they rest on your hips. the sharp ache dissolves into heat, into a magnetic pull you canât resist. his reaction tells you heâs just as wrecked as you are, caught in the unbearable tension of holding back when everything about this moment demands he let go.
baekhyunâs exhale shudders, his head tipping back as his grip on your hips tightens just enough to remind you of his control. âfuck,â he rasps, the word rough and shaky, his voice carrying a mix of awe and restraint. âi missed the way you feel around me.â
his words send a ripple of heat through you, raw and unfiltered, a confession of just how much youâre undoing him. his fingers dig into your skin, grounding him, though his gaze never strays from yours. the tension coils tighter with every passing second, his dark eyes blazing with something possessive, something unrelenting, as though heâs holding back the storm brewing just beneath the surface.
your need burns hotter, desperation clawing its way to the forefront. âbaekhyunâ,â you beg, the words tumbling out before you can catch them. âplease... just hurry up and fuck me.â
the plea comes out shaky, your voice trembling with want, and for a moment, you feel utterly exposed. but the effect on him is instant. his lips curl into a slow, wicked smile, his expression one of pure, devastating control as if that's all he needed to hear. âas you wish, sweetheart,â he grunts, his voice thick with promise and unrestrained desire.
his hands tighten their hold on your hips, strong and commanding, as he shifts his position. with a flex of his arms, he lifts you with effortless strength, your body rising until you can feel the head of his cock stretching you once more. the tension builds, unbearable and heady, before he slams you down onto him in one fluid motion.
the force of it steals the breath from your lungs, the intensity of him filling you completely, stretching you to your limit. the sound that escapes you is ragged, a cry of pleasure that seems to echo in the air between you. baekhyunâs growl rumbles low in his chest, primal and rough, as his hips meet yours, bottoming out with a precision that leaves you trembling.
his movements are deliberate yet feral, each thrust pushing you closer to the edge, his hands never leaving your body as if anchoring you to him. his need is palpable, pouring out in every motion, every flex of his muscles as he claims you with an intensity that sets every nerve ending alight.
âya feel so fuckinâ perfect,â he groans against your skin, the words muffled but soaked in reverence as his lips press to your shoulder, your neck, anywhere he can reach. every motion, every sound, every touch pulls you deeper into him, blurring the lines between where you end and he begins.
he missed you. god, every inch of him missed you. itâs like his cock remembers every curve, every slick ridge of your walls, molding to him perfectly. and of course, he lets you know, his voice breaking into a string of desperate confessions. âf-fuck⊠mâsorry. ya squeezinâ me so tight. i think âm gonna cum soon hahâ and âm gonna fuck it right back into this perfectânghâcunt.â
âhahâbaek,â you whine, your voice trembling as you fully surrender to him. your body rocks helplessly in rhythm with his relentless thrusts, his cock plunging so deep it leaves you gasping. âs-so deepâhngh⊠can feel you hereââ your hand snakes down, guiding his to press against your stomach, right where the swollen head of his cock is relentlessly hitting that devastatingly sweet spot.
his breath hitches, a low, disbelieving laugh huffing out as his fingers press into your skin. âfuck,â he groans, his eyes dark with lust, fixed on you, utterly wrecked beneath him. his hand is on top of the other as they press down over the slight bulge where heâs buried so deeply inside you. âfeel that, baby? thatâs me⊠stretching this pretty pussy out so good.â
his words send a fresh wave of heat coursing through you, and itâs too muchâall of it, the weight of him, the filthy praise falling from his lips, the way his hands grip you like youâre something precious, even as he loses himself in you.
âbaekâoh god!â your cry echoes through the room as your body shatters beneath him, the first orgasm of the night ripping through you with a force that leaves you trembling. his lips crash against yours, swallowing your desperate moans as his hand moves lower, fingers finding your clit in quick, precise circles. the overstimulation sends sparks shooting through your veins, the pleasure stretching, elongating, as he coaxes every last wave from you.
âthatâs itâhah. cum for me angel,â he murmurs against your lips, his voice softening even as his hips keep their punishing rhythm, chasing his own release. ây'so perfect, baby. nngghhâso fuckin' perfect for meâŠand finally mine again.â
âbeen y-yours,â you hiss, dragging out the word as his crazed tip whacks itself against your sensitive spot. again, again, and againâheâs hitting against that same spot as if it were a target and he never misses. his frantic hits against your core causes your toes to curl and your back to arch even further as youâre slowly being brought closer to your orgasmic, teetering edge. âffuuck! âm cumming again, baek, cumming.âÂ
your release crashes over you like a tidal wave, sweeping you into a realm that feels like heaven itself. your body gives out beneath the intensity, collapsing back against the mattress as baekhyun hovers over you, his breath hot and heavy. his tongue trails a slick, wet path down the curve of your neck, his touch a sinful mix of reverence and hunger as you unravel completely beneath him.
baekhyunâs body is pressed flush against yours, his every movement slow yet calculated, like heâs savoring each second, each inch, as if the world might steal you away from him again. the heat of his skin seeps into yours, the sheer intensity in his dark, lidded eyes making it impossible to look away. his breath is ragged, the sound mingling with the soft gasps spilling from your lips, the two of you lost in a rhythm that feels as natural as breathing.
âplease,â he rasps, his voice cracking, raw with emotion. his forehead presses to yours, the touch grounding and desperate as he sinks deeper, his hips stuttering like the closeness of you is too much, too overwhelming to contain. âplease, donât fuckinâ leave me again.â
his words linger, heavy and aching, filling the space between you with the weight of every unspoken hurt, every moment lost. his fingers tighten on your hips, digging into your skin as though the feel of you beneath him is the only thing tethering him to reality. his thrusts grow erratic, uneven, each movement betraying the fragility of his control.
ânggghhâi think...â his voice falters, a low groan spilling from his lips as he buries his face into the curve of your neck. his mouth grazes your skin, reverent, desperate, the ghost of his breath hot and trembling against you. âi think iâll die if you do. god, i canâtâi canât spend another fuckinâ day without you.â
your heart clenches painfully, his vulnerability cutting straight through you like a blade. his body trembles against yours, every inch of him straining to keep you close, to pour everything he feels into the spaces between you. your fingers find their way into his hair, threading through the damp strands as you tug gently, coaxing him to meet your gaze.
his eyes lift, dark and glassy, brimming with emotion so unguarded it threatens to undo you. devotion, fear, yearningâtheyâre all there, laid bare and unfiltered.
âbaekhyun,â you whisper, your voice a delicate tremor, barely audible over the shared gasps of breath between you. your hands cradle his face, fingertips brushing over the damp strands of his hair as if trying to ground him, to ground yourself, in this fragile, fleeting moment. ââm not going anywhere. iâm here... iâm yours. weâre yours.â
his breath catches, shuddering under the weight of your words, and a soundâfragile, brokenâescapes him. he surges forward, pulling you closer, deeper, until it feels like heâs trying to fuse your souls together, to erase every inch of space between you. his thrusts are slower now, deliberate, every roll of his hips steeped in something more than desireâsomething raw and sacred, like a plea, a promise, an apology all at once.
your body arches into his, a guttural whine ripping from your throat as his cock pulses within your walls, stretching, filling, consuming. your muscles clench around him, your body dragging him deeper into your heat, and his control shatters like glass.
âf-fuckinâ shit,â he growls through gritted teeth, his hips jerking erratically as he spills into you, heat blooming deep inside, marking you in every sense of the word. the intensity steals the breath from your lungs, and as the waves of pleasure crash over you, pulling you under, your release spirals into his, the two of you breaking apart and piecing yourselves back together in the same breath.
his lips find yours, the kiss frantic and messy, a collision of tongues and teeth as if heâs trying to reclaim the time you spent apart. every ragged moan, every whispered curse and gasp fills the room, the air thick with the symphony of your shared need. the world outside fades, leaving only the two of youâentangled, desperate, and utterly consumed by the moment.
itâs not just lust, not just longingâitâs everything. years of heartache, love, and an aching, unrelenting need poured into every kiss, every thrust, every whispered vow that promises youâll never leave each other again.
your walls clench around him again, coaxing more from him, and he groans deeply, his arms looping around your waist to anchor you to him. his grip is firm, almost desperate, holding your trembling hips in place as his thick, creamy release paints your insides. itâs obscene, the way it trickles down your shaking thighs, a messy, lewd reminder of everything heâs giving you. but baekhyun doesnât stopânot yet. his hips slow, but only slightly, rolling into you with a lazy, unrelenting rhythm as if determined to fuck every drop back into you.
itâs filthy, yes, but thereâs something almost tender in the way his lips brush against yours again, his deep moans muffled as his movements grow languid, sweet in their intensity. he nips at your bottom lip, his voice a teasing rasp when he finally pulls back just enough to speak, his forehead pressed to yours.
"how âbout we give minji a sibling, huh?" the words spill from him, low and teasing, yet dripping with intent, his hips punctuating the question with a deliberate thrust that has you crying out.
your brain short-circuits, the world spinning as his cock drags against your sensitive walls. your head nods before you can even process his words, a frantic, needy motion as your body betrays just how utterly drunk you are on him. thinking straight? impossible. all you can manage is a breathless, choked moan of agreement, your fingers digging into his back as he continues to work you into oblivion."yeah?" your voice trembles, still riding the waves of your last high. "well, weâve got all night to try."
the morning sun filtered softly through the trees as you stood at your front door, your body still humming with the afterglow of the night before. baekhyunâs car had just turned the corner, leaving behind the faint scent of his cologne and the weight of his goodbye kiss still lingering on your lips. you smiled to yourself, the memory of his warm hands on your waist and the way heâd looked at you all night filling you with a quiet joy.
but then your thoughts shifted, and a familiar ache settled in your chest. you glanced to your left, to chanyeolâs house, where your daughter, minji, was probably still fast asleep. you wondered when you should go pick her up, already missing the sound of her giggles and the way she always ran to you with open arms.
your gaze lingered on his house, warm affection for your daughter mingling with a twinge of guilt. chanyeol had been nothing but kindâstepping in to watch minji overnight so you and baekhyun could have this time together. but as your eyes traced the windows, movement caught your attention.
the curtain in the living room fluttered, a shadow shifting behind it before it was quickly pulled shut. the abruptness of the action made your heart sink. someone had been watching. you didnât need to guess who.
your stomach twisted as the realization hit you. chanyeol.
the look on his face from last night flashed through your mindâthe way his mouth had tightened, his expression faltering when youâd casually mentioned your plans with baekhyun. youâd tried to soften the blow, telling him you were "taking things slow," but now those words felt hollow, like a broken promise.
slow? the sight of you outside your front door in baekhyunâs shirt, kissing him goodbye, told a different story.
the weight of the moment pressed on you, guilt pooling heavy in your chest. chanyeol didnât deserve this. he didnât deserve to see this, to piece together the night youâd spent with baekhyun and feel whatever it was you knew he must be feeling.
for a second, you thought about knocking on his door, about saying somethingâanythingâthat might ease the tension now crackling in the air between your homes. but instead, you swallowed hard, forcing yourself to step inside your own door. maybe it was better this way, to let the moment settle, to deal with the aftermath later when your thoughts were clearer.
but as you shut the door behind you, your phone buzzed in your pocket.
chanyeol:
hey, can we talk?
a sigh escapes your lips, the guilt in your chest an ache that refuses to fade. you were already bracing for this conversation, knowing it had to happen, knowing you owed him this clarity. more than that, you still wanted him in your lifeâhim and nari both. they had become such an integral part of your and minji's world, their presence a steady anchor in the chaos. you had to make sure he understood that.
your thumbs hover over the screen, the words forming before you can second-guess them.
yeah, i think we should, yeol.
chanyeol sits on the couch beside you, though the space between you feels like a canyon. itâs a noticeable difference from how he used to sit, closer, as if the world wasnât big enough to separate the two of you.
he brought minji home a few minutes ago, fast asleep against his shoulder, her cheek pressed to him in the way only a child could manage, soft and unguarded. her little mouth hung open, a whisper of snores escaping as if the world around her didnât exist. sheâd been worn out from a full morning playing with his sisterâs kids and nari, her tiny form so peaceful it made your heart ache. youâd both had quietly tucked her into bed together. and now here you were, back in the living room, perched on the edge of an unspoken conversation.
his sister had stopped by his place earlier this morning, her kids in tow for a chaotic playdate with nari and minji. sheâd agreed to watch nari while chanyeol brought minji back home and you and him have this talk, though heâd been vague about why he needed the time. what was he supposed to say? âiâm going next door to talk to the girl iâve been madly crushing on for over a year about seeing her kiss her ex-boyfriend and baby daddy and now i donât know where i stand.â no. too messy. too raw. too much.
his jaw tightens, a small movement you barely catch out of the corner of your eye. the weight of his presence feels like itâs pressing against your chest, suffocating and grounding all at once. you glance at him, then quickly look away, unsure of how to start this conversation. unsure if you even can.
the silence between you stretches, awkward and heavy. you try to fill it with small talk, your voice soft. âhow was minji last night?â
he glances at you, a smile tugging at his lips, though it doesnât quite reach his eyes. thereâs something pained in his expression, something restrained. âshe was great. she always is.â
you smile faintly, but it fades as guilt bubbles in your chest. âlook, chanyeol,â you start, your voice tentative, âiâm sorry for what you saw this morning. it probably didnât make me look like âmother of the year.ââ you pause, exhaling slowly. âi know i said baekhyun and i were going to take things slow, but⊠one thing led to another, andââ
âstop,â he interrupts, his voice sharp but not unkind. his hand comes up, almost reflexively, as if to shield himself from your words. he winces, and you know itâs because heâs picturing itâbaekhyunâs hands on you, his lips on yours. where chanyeol wishes his own could be.
his shoulders slump as he exhales, the tension in his body evident. his face is a mosaic of emotionsâhurt, frustration, resignation. âi donât think i want to hear the details⊠about what happened with you and baekhyun.â
the air grows heavier, his words filling the space between you. for a moment, neither of you speaks. then, he sighs again, his voice quieter this time, softer. âi just came to say that i get it.â
you blink, caught off guard. âyou do?â
he nods, his gaze falling to his hands, which rest loosely in his lap. âyeah,â he says, the word heavy with a weight heâs carried for longer than you probably realize. âi always knew your heart was still with him. filled with him. i thought that maybe, over time, with me⊠and nari⊠weâiâwould fill it instead.â his voice cracks slightly, and he clears his throat, forcing himself to go on. âbut then he came along. and even then, i was still foolish enough to believe i had a chance.â
your heart clenches, the rawness in his voice cutting deeper than any accusation ever could.
he looks up at you, his eyes earnest despite the ache swimming in them. âbut i just want you to know⊠donât feel guilty. about this. about me. nari and iâweâll still be here for you and minji. always.â
his words hit you like a wave, and youâre left staring at him, your chest tight and your throat dry. thereâs no anger in his voice, no bitterness, just an overwhelming sense of loss and quiet acceptance.
and somehow, that hurts even more.
you open your mouth, but no words come out. what can you possibly say to that? to a man who has just stripped himself bare, laying his feelings and heartbreak at your feet without a hint of resentment? guilt swirls in your stomach, heavy and unrelenting, but beneath it is something softerâgratitude.
âchanyeol,â you finally manage, your voice quiet, shaky. âi⊠i donât even know where to start.â you tuck a strand of hair behind your ear, a nervous habit youâve had for as long as you can remember. âi never meant to hurt you. i swear, i didnât.â
his smile is small, sad, and fleeting. âi know.â
âyou mean so much to me,â you continue, your voice gaining strength. âand not just because youâve been so good to minji and me, but because youâre⊠youâre you. youâve been a constant in our lives when everything else felt so uncertain.â
his gaze flickers to yours, and the weight of his emotions is almost too much to bear.
âbut,â you add, hesitating because the truth feels like a betrayal, âi canât lie to you. when baekhyun came back, it stirred up so much that i thought iâd buried. i thought iâd moved on, but⊠seeing him againâŠâ you trail off, unsure how to finish without twisting the knife further.
âi get it,â he says softly, sparing you the need to say more.
âi donât deserve you,â you whisper, shaking your head. âyouâve been nothing but kind and patient, and i hate that iâve put you in this position. but⊠thank you. for everything. for understanding, for being here, forââ
âdonât,â he cuts you off gently, his voice firm but kind. âdonât thank me like this is the end of something. nari and minji are still best friends, and iâm not going anywhere. you donât get rid of me that easily.â
his attempt at humor coaxes a faint smile from you, though the tears welling in your eyes threaten to spill over. âyouâre too good, you know that?â
he shrugs, the corner of his mouth twitching upward in something thatâs almost a smile. âor maybe i just have bad timing.â
you both fall silent again, the unspoken understanding settling between you like a fragile truce. you want to hug him, to thank him properly, but you know itâs not what he needs right now. instead, you place a hand on his, squeezing it gently.
âiâm sorry,â you say again, your voice barely above a whisper.
he squeezes back, his touch warm despite the distance heâs trying to keep. âme too.â
and with that, the moment shifts, leaving behind a bittersweet ache that doesnât feel quite like an ending but more like an understandingâa quiet closure to what could have been. as chanyeol stands to leave, his hand moves instinctively, gently cupping your chin. his thumb grazes the soft curve of it, a gesture so intimately familiar it almost feels like a promise.
his eyes meet yours, but this time, thereâs no playful glint, no trace of hope lingering there. instead, his gaze is calm, tinged with a bittersweet acceptance that sits heavy in the space between you. his lips pull into a small, wistful smileâwarm enough to remind you of the connection you once shared but tempered by the reality that things have changed.
âweâll be okay,â he says softly, the weight of his words lingering in the air. ânari and i⊠weâll always be here for you and minji. that doesnât change.â
his voice is steady, not heavy with regret but grounded in the knowledge that some paths arenât meant to intertwine the way he might have once hoped. and as he steps back, the warmth of his touch fades, but not in a way that feels cold or distant.
instead, it feels like understanding.
he hesitates for a moment, the faintest flicker of something unreadable crossing his face, but then he nods slightly, his smile growing just enough to feel reassuring. âsee you around, yeah?â
âyeah,â you manage, your voice soft but steady.
with that, he turns and walks out the doorânot leaving behind a void, but rather a quiet sense of peace. the kind of peace that comes with knowing some connections will always remain, even if theyâve shifted into something new.
baekhyun had started staying over on weekends. it had been his idea initially, a way to make up for the years he missed with minjiâbut somewhere along the way, it became about more than that. your relationship with him had been blossoming, as if no time had been lost. Â
the nights you spent together felt like a rediscovery of who you both were, a bittersweet journey through what was and what could be. after minji would fall asleep, the two of you would sit on the couch, sharing stories from the years apart. his late-night shifts at the hospital during his program, your struggles navigating motherhood alone, the little triumphs and heartbreaks in between. Â
what surprised you most was how much had stayed the same. you still had the same taste in music, still argued playfully over which movie to watch. even the new interests youâd each picked up fit together seamlesslyâbaekhyun teasing you about your new baking obsession while you mocked his newfound love for photography. Â
it was during one of those weekends, after a long day spent at the park with minji, that things shifted. the house was quiet, save for the soft hum of the night outside. minji had gone to bed hours ago, worn out from a day of running around, and now you lay tangled in the sheets with baekhyun, your skin still warm from the closeness youâd just shared. Â
his arm draped lazily over your waist, fingers tracing absentminded patterns on your skin. âiâve been thinking,â he murmured, his voice soft but serious. Â
you turned to face him, your cheek brushing against his bare chest. âabout what?â Â
âabout telling her,â he said, his hand stilling on your side. âminji. that iâm her dad.â Â
you blinked up at him, the words settling heavily in the air between you. it wasnât the first time the thought had crossed your mind, but hearing him say it made it feel... real. Â
âyou think sheâs ready?â you asked, your voice barely above a whisper. Â
he nodded slowly, his dark eyes meeting yours. âsheâs smart, you know? she already knows thereâs something different about the way i am with her. and with you.â his lips quirked into a small smile. âplus, i want her to know. i want her to know how much i love her. how much i love... this.â Â
your breath hitched, his words wrapping around your heart like a warm embrace. âyou really think nowâs the time?â Â
baekhyun shifted, propping himself up on one elbow so he could look down at you. âi do. but only if youâre ready, too.â Â
you bit your lip, the weight of the decision pressing down on you. but as you thought about how minji had been bonding with baekhyunâher laughter during their tickle fights, the way she lit up every time he walked into the roomâyou realized he was right. she deserved to know. Â
âokay,â you whispered, your fingers reaching up to brush a stray lock of hair from his face. âletâs tell her.â Â
he leaned down, pressing a kiss to your forehead, his voice a gentle promise. âthank you. for letting me be here. for giving me this chance.â Â
the following day, during lunch, you sat minji down. the late afternoon sun poured into the kitchen, casting soft golden streaks across the table where you, baekhyun, and minji sat. the aroma of grilled cheese sandwiches and tomato soup lingered in the air, a comfort meal chosen carefully for this important day. Â
minji swung her little legs under the chair, humming a tune in between bites, blissfully unaware of the weight of the moment looming. Â
you glanced at baekhyun, his fingers tapping lightly against the edge of his bowlâa nervous tell he couldnât quite hide. catching your eye, he gave you a small nod. it was time. Â
âminji,â you began gently, setting your spoon down and leaning forward. her big eyes flicked up to you, still chewing, her cheeks puffed out like a little chipmunk. Â
âmommy and i want to talk to you about something important,â baekhyun added, his voice warm but tinged with a nervous edge. Â
minji blinked, tilting her head curiously. âwhat is it?â Â
you took a deep breath, reaching for her tiny hand across the table. âyou know how youâve been spending a lot of time with baekhyun lately? going to the park, playing games, having fun?â Â
she nodded enthusiastically, a grin spreading across her face. âyeah! heâs so fun! and heâs really good at hide-and-seek!â Â
baekhyun chuckled softly, his fingers brushing through his hair. âwell, thereâs a reason weâve been spending so much time together, minji,â he said, his voice tender. âitâs because iâm your dad.ïżœïżœïżœÂ Â
the room went quiet for a moment as her little brain worked to process the words. her eyes flicked between you and baekhyun, her brow furrowing slightly. âmy... dad?â Â
you squeezed her hand gently. âyes, sweetheart. baekhyun is your dad. he loves you very much and wants to be in your life, just like mommy is.â Â
minjiâs lips pressed together in a thoughtful pout. then, she looked at baekhyun, her small voice filled with curiosity. âare you gonna stay forever?â Â
his breath hitched, and you could see the emotion pooling in his eyes. he leaned forward, resting his elbows on the table to meet her at eye level. âyes, minji. i promise iâm not going anywhere. i want to be here for you, always.â Â
she studied him for a moment, then turned to you. âis that okay, mommy?â Â
your throat tightened at the question, the innocence of her trust nearly breaking you. you nodded quickly, brushing a hand through her soft hair. âof course, bun. itâs more than okay.â Â
a beat passed, and then her face lit up with a smile that could rival the sun. âso... does this mean i can call you daddy?â Â
baekhyun laughed, his voice shaky but filled with relief. âonly if you want to, bunny.â Â
without hesitation, she slid off her chair and ran to him, wrapping her tiny arms around his waist. âhi, daddy.â Â
baekhyunâs arms enveloped her instantly, holding her like she was the most precious thing in the world. his eyes met yours over her head, glistening with unshed tears and a gratitude too deep for words. Â
in that moment, you knew everything would be okay. your little family had found its way back together. Â

In one of my other fanfics, I made an allusion to a story from Rukia and Renji's youth where she got nervous about the size of her chest and made Renji give an opinion on the matter. I was always very charmed by the idea of it, and earlier this week, I felt like writing it, so I did. Originally, I didn't intend to post it, because it skirts a little close to underage sex stuff, but a) they're immortal ghosts and they live on their own and become child soldiers like two years later, and b) it's really nothing. Teens, even human teens, can see a boob. It's fine. Don't read it if it bothers you. Also, if this bears resemblance to multiple stories I have written in the past, it's because I think Rukia is just like that. This will probably not be the last one, either.
Rated a hearty PG-13 for cussing, partial nudity, and some adolescent sexual awakening
| read on ao3 |
"Renji," said Rukia. "I need your opinion on something."
Renji had been breaking up sticks to dry out for firewood around the backside of the broken-down squat he and the gang had been trying to get into shape for their winter digs. He wiped the sweat off his forehead with the back of his arm. "My opinion?" he grumbled. "Is everyone else off somewhere?" It suddenly occurred to him that he hadn't heard anyone else's voice in a while.
"Well, yes," Rukia mumbled. "They went into the woods to try and set some traps and maybe do some foraging. But I'm not asking because you're the only one around. I was waiting to ask you until everyone was busy."
That got Renji's attention. This was not the first time Rukia had cornered him like this. He assumed she did this to the other guys, too, but he didn't actually know for certain. Renji tossed the stick in his hand back onto the pile and turned to give Rukia his full attention. She was standing in a funny way, her arms crossed awkwardly over her chest. She looked almost like she was cold, except that it was early September and still sweltering.
"What's up?" he asked.
"You're going to wonder why I am asking you this," she said, her eyes fixed somewhere off to one side, "and it's because I'm trusting you not to be weird about it. Everyone else would try, but then they would be weird about it, and I know you won't be."
Renji continued to regard her silently. She wasn't asking anything particular of him, just stating what she expected. Renji decided he liked the idea of being a guy who wasn't weird about stuff, and decided he would do his best to uphold that trust. He was also prepared for whatever she was going to say next to be spectacularly weird. This was Rukia, after all.
"Also," she said, "you go around with your shirt off all the time. You're the least self-conscious person I know about. You know. Body stuff."
An alarm signal went zinging through Renji's nervous system. It was true that he wasn't all that concerned about bodies, his own or other people's. A long time ago, he'd had to make a decision about Rukia's body, which he sometimes had to touch and slept next to at night and had seen naked more than a few times. She'd become a little secretive about that recently, and he'd taken care to respect that decision and avert his eyes when he needed to and made sure all the other guys did too. The decision he had made was that Rukia's body was exactly like Fujimaru's and Mameji's and Kosaburou's, which was to say, it was a thing that existed but was none of his business, unless say, she needed an injury patched up or something like that.
"Something wrong?" he asked gruffly.
"Not-- well, I don't know. That's what--that's what the opinion is for."
Renji rubbed the back of his neck. "I'm really not sure I'm the right person to ask. I know the old herb lady is pretty deep in her own brain most the time, but if you catch her on a good day, she knows a lot of stuff about--"
"Oh, for fuck's sake, Renji, I just want to know if my boobs are good or not!"
Renji stared at her. Rukia's face was beet red now.
"UhâŠwhat?"
Rukia made a little huffing noise. "Look. I know you know I've been binding my chest for a while now."
Renji shrugged noncommittally. Rukia hadn't been particularly shy about letting them see her in her chest wrap. A lot of girls in Inuzuri did. Usually, it was a safety measure.
"I think they might be done growing. I'm worried they'reâŠwell, they're kinda small."
Renji ran his fingers through his hair and tried not to look at her. "Seems like that would make them easier to bind, no?"
"WellâŠyes, that's true."
"It's not like it's something you can control. You shouldn't worry about it."
"I just don't know! Maybe they're fine actually! I'm the only one who gets to see them and I think I may have gotten too wrapped around my own axle about it and I just wanted a second opinion, okay?"
Renji sighed. "Okay. Sure. If it'll make you feel better."
Rukia took a deep breath and then lowered her arms. Nervously, she tugged at her yukata below the sash to get it adjusted properly.
There was now the slightest curve in the fabric between her shoulders and her waist. Renji wasn't sure he even would have noticed it if she were just some girl he saw on the street. But that curve was there, and it was doing something weird to the pit of his stomach.
Cleavage was no rare sight in Inuzuri. Both in the streets and the gambling halls, plenty of women kept theirs on display for, uh, business reasons. Renji could tell the difference between the more and less attractive sets, but he'd never been quite as excited by the prospect of a hearty set of tits as some of his peers. He didn't think this constituted any kind of moral high ground. The fact was, he was just mostly into dudes. A pair of well-muscled forearms or a particularly sharp jawline was usually more likely to do him in. But there was something about that mysterious curve, the suggestion of tits, of Rukia's titsâŠ
"They look fine to me," he announced.
Rukia looked down at them and frowned thoughtfully.
A strange, slightly foreign thought, possibly a stray memory from his human life, popped into Renji's brain. "Isn't there even--like with fancy kimono--aren't you supposed to make a smooth profile? Maybe you've just got a fancy-lady figure."
Some of the color had receded from Rukia's cheeks. "Why do you always know these things? Also--fat lot of good that's going to do me."
Renji shrugged. "What kinda good were you hoping they were gonna do you, anyway? I mean, you wouldn't wanna-- that is--" He grimaced, thinking about business reasons again.
"I might like to kiss someone, someday!" Rukia declared, cheeks going hot once more. "I'd likeâŠto be worth looking at. You're going to be ten feet tall and have shoulders for days and you've already got that hair, so I realize that's something you've probably never once thought about."
Renji stared at her uncomprehendingly. "You think I'm good-looking?"
Rukia seemed to be staring at something over her shoulder. "You're certainly striking."
Renji had honestly never thought about himself in that way before. Mostly, he thought he'd stuck out in a way that was mostly pretty inconvenient, given their skulking and pickpocketing lifestyle.
"You have an interesting voice," he pointed out, drawing the words out as he tried to think of more things a theoretical person who was not him might find attractive about Rukia. "And you're good at a lot of things." She also had a pretty face, maybe the prettiest face he'd ever seen in Inuzuri, with big blue eyes that you could just fall into. He couldn't say all that shit, though. It would just embarrass both of them, plus she would think he was lying to make her feel better. He wasn't. It wasn't even, like, his opinion, it was just the objective truth.
Rukia huffed again, clearly unsatisfied.
Renji threw up his arms. "They're under your clothes! Wouldn't you rather kiss someone who likes you because you're cool, rather than because you've got a nice pair of knockers? Which isn't even to say they aren't nice! You just can't tell! They could be great under there. That's it's own kind of allure. The-- the, uh, mystery." He regretted saying it the moment it was out of his mouth. This always happened with Rukia, though. He was always telling on himself.
Rukia stared at him for a long moment. Then she hooked her finger over the closure of her yukata and pulled it away, staring down into the depths.
"Are we done?" Renji asked, trying to sound bored and failing when his voice wavered on the last word.
Rukia looked back up at him. "You've never even see a naked girl-tit, have you, Abarai?"
Renji wrinkled his nose. "NotâŠnot really, no. NotâŠhead-on."
Rukia set her jaw. "Okay. We're doing this."
"What--" stammered Renji. "What are we doing? We don't need to--"
Rukia pulled her yukata wide and shimmied her shoulders loose.
Renji swallowed thickly.
He had changed his mind. He did, in fact, like girls. Fuck, did he like girls.
Rukia's breasts were small, that was just a fact. They were also gorgeous. Smooth and straight on top, ending in a sharp, rosy nipple. They curved gently on the underside back to where they rejoined her body, like two ripe, blushing pears. Renji could imagine cupping one in his hand, the way it would fit in his palm perfectly. He squeezed his hands into fists, reminding himself that they were dirty and covered in small bits of bark from breaking the sticks. He absolutely could not reach out and touch them, even beyond the possibility that Rukia would murder him if he did (would she, though? He wondered). It turned out this was a mistake, because now he was thinking about kissing Rukia's breasts, about the way they would taste, how he could take nearly the whole of one in his mouth. He squeezed his eyes shut. "Fuck, Rukia, put your shirt back on!"
"They can't be that bad," Rukia grumbled.
"They're not, they're really good! Surprisingly good! You should save them for whoever it is you want to kiss! Please put your shirt back on!"
"You're so weird," Rukia laughed, and he was glad to hear the ring of relief in her voice.
There was a long pause with a few rustles of fabric being adjusted. Renji chanced to unsqueeze one eye to see if she was dressed again. He was just in time to see her cross the second side of her yukata over the first, catching a last glimpse of a pretty little tit before the fabric settled over it. A secret once again, but no longer a mystery. Fuck.
"You can open your eyes now, you big baby," Rukia announced, reknotting her sash. Evidently she hadn't noticed him peeking. She wasn't even blushing anymore. "Thank you."
"I don't know why you asked me," Renji mumbled. "You know I'm no good at being reassuring and shit like that."
"I didn't want you to be reassuring," she replied, looking up and favoring him with a brilliant smile. "I wanted you to be honest. WhichâŠclearly you were. I don't know what else that could possibly have been."
"Shut up," said Renji.
Rukia snorted softly. "Do you wanna go find the others and fix their snares for them? I'm sure they've set them up wrong."
"I wanna finish dealing with these sticks first," Renji replied. It took his entire strength of will to unclench his hands and pick up a stick, a long, heavy one. He winced when it broke much more easily than he had expected it to. The sound of it was deafening.
"I can help," Rukia said cheerfully, picking up another stick and snapping the side branches off it expertly, humming while she worked.
Renji picked up another stick, and suddenly wished the pile was bigger than it actually was.
"Hey, Renji?"
"What now?"
"They really are--?"
"Yes. Don't ask me again."
Rukia gave a little chuckle, and so softly that he almost didn't hear it, added, "Huh. Who knew?"

Crib Construction
Cassian x Reader
Masterlist - Join My Taglist!
Written for my personal fic writing challenge for 2024, Sophie's Year of Fic! Featuring a new fic being posted every Friday, all year long :)
Fandom: ACOTAR
Summary: Cassian and his mate have been tasked with putting together Nyx's crib. Unfortunately, it's a harder task than they thought it would be.
Word Count: 1,282
Category: Fluff, Humor
Putting work into an AI program without permission is illegal. You do not have my permission. Do not do it.
"Cass, come here. Does this look right?"
My boyfriend didn't waste a second before joining me on the floor, kneeling behind me and looking over my shoulder. Neither of us spoke for a minute, then I heard a rustling of paper as Cassian sighed.
"Yeah, it looks right. That hasn't stopped it from being wrong before, though."
"Well, let's just hope for the best."
I could feel through the mating bond just how little Cassian wanted to do that, but he knew as well as I did that we didn't have much other choice. I took a deep breath, then gently pressed the two pieces of wood before me together, trying to get them to link like they were supposed to.
Of course, it didn't work. I added slightly more pressure, but still nothing. I put my entire weight and all of my strength into it, and when the damn thing still didn't budge, I let out a scream and shoved both pieces away from me before I could really lose my temper and accidentally break something.
"This is bullshit!" I shouted, whirling around to face Cassian. He had a look of grim resignation, meeting my eyes with sympathy. Our positions had been exactly reversed about ten minutes ago. "Rhys set this up as a way to get back at you for winning the snowball fight last time, and I'm getting caught in the collateral. This sucks."
"Honestly, maybe he did," Cass said, sighing and leaning back on his hands. "Or maybe Az did something to break this one too before he got kicked off the job."
I groaned, flopping over and into Cassian's side to lay against his chest and stare at the ridiculous contraption that had been defeating us all afternoon. Rhys and Feyre had asked us to assemble Nyx's crib, and at first, we'd been honored and happy to help. But hours later, when nothing was going right and none of the pieces were fitting together the way they were supposed to, I was about ready to throw all of it out the window and into the Sidra below.
We'd been given the task in the first place because Az had shattered the same type of crib to pieces after spending a day being stumped by the puzzle. Cassian and I had inherited the task for our ability to keep each other calm, and because we were generally less destructive when continually frustrated by a puzzle. This crib was about to ruin that reputation.
"Okay, maybe we should just start over from the beginning," I said, sitting up and turning to face Cassian after our brief rest. "Like, take everything apart and lay it all out on the floor again, then start back from step one."
Cassian groaned. "Honestly, I hate that idea. But what we're already doing clearing isn't working, so..."
"So let's try it. Deep breaths, and then a total reset. A fresh start."
"...Alright. Let's do it."
With a lot of heavy sighing, Cassian and I took apart what little progress we'd made, separating the crib back into its individual parts, the way it had come. Once we got it all laid out again, I took the instruction manual from Cass and laid that out in front of us, too. With one last deep breath, we started in again at step one on page one.
I wish I could say this attempt went better. But it didn't. Cassian and I almost destroyed the whole thing Az-style in a fit of frustration three times each, one of us barely managing to pull the other back every time. We were just lucky our destructive streaks never lined up, or the pieces of the crib before us would've already become nothing more than a pile of ash.
"Alright, that's it!" Cass finally shouted, standing up abruptly from where we'd been trying to wrestle together the corners of the crib with no luck, despite using both our strength at once. "I'll be right back."
"What?" I flung my arms out to either side of me as Cassian headed for the door. "You're abandoning me? Seriously?"
"Not abandoning! Changing tactics."
Before I could ask for clarification, Cassian was out the door. I stared after him, waiting for him to reappear or say he was kidding or something, but he didn't. I huffed, then shook my head and turned back to the crib, its pieces still mostly laid out on the floor.
I sat there and stared at the pieces for a few long beats, contemplating my next move. Honestly, I'd just about decided to throw them out the window and tell Rhys the thing'd never been here when the door came swinging open again.
I turned to find Cassian striding towards me, the confidence and determination back in his step. I raised an eyebrow at him, but he just grinned.
"I've solved all our problems."
I snorted, but smiled at Cassian all the same as he came to a stop before me. The fact that he'd managed to make me laugh at all in the middle of this nonsense was exactly why we were mates, and it made me love him even more.
"Cass, you know I love you, and you know I trust you, but... I'm having a hard time seeing how that could possibly be true. Unless you convinced Mor to take over for us...?"
"No, but just as good." I raised an eyebrow, and Cassian's grin widened as he dropped down next to me. Slowly, from behind his back, he pulled out a hammer, tape, and a few other supplies.
I just stared at everything for a moment, then snorted and leanded into Cassian. I closed my eyes and shook my head.
"Babe... we can't use that stuff to put this crib together."
"Why not?"
"Because it won't be sturdy enough! We don't want it to give out while the baby's in it. We both know we can't risk that."
Cassian hummed, rocking forward just enough to get a few of the pieces of the crib into his hands. He lined them up like we'd been doing all day, then raised the hammer in his other hand.
"Maybe you're right about the tape," he said. "But all we need to fix this is a little extra power. We can't force it together with our strength alone, so we'll use a hammer."
"Cass-"
Before I could get another word out, Cassian swung the hammer. I could see him putting his full Illyrian strength into it, and sure enough, the pieces whacked together. Unfortunately for us, they also splintered into more pieces than would be fixable, even with tape.
Cassian and I just stared at the wreckage for a moment, neither of us speaking. Cassian was the one to break first.
"Shit."
I laughed, all the stress and ridiculousness of the past few hours disappearing along with our hopes of actually succeeding at our task. I leaned into Cassian, and a moment later, he joined me.
"Well, that didn't go like I was hoping," sighed Cassian. I laughed again.
"Really? That's not what you were going for?"
"Not quite."
We shared a smile, then slumped back together, Cassian's arm around my waist as I leaned into his chest. I sighed, staring at the ruins of the crib before us. Not a single part of me wanted to do something about fixing it.
"So... how about we call Mor and find a way to pass this on to her?"
I laughed, then nodded as I leaned even further into Cassian.
"Baby, I was thinking the same thing. You, me, and Az have had to tear our hair out over this thing already, I think it's her turn."
"And even better, if any of us has to call Amren in, it'll be Mor."
"Exactly."

The Lilac Dress (EmmRook One Shot)
Summary:
Rook was wearing the lilac dress. Emmrich's favourite. The one that made Rookâs leg look impossibly long with the slit on the side. The one that drew attention to her lovely cleavage without being too revealing. The one that hugged her forms but with elegance.
The one that always promised heights of intimacy after a fancy outting.
Or.. A tipsy Emmrich with lowered inhibitions f***s Rook's brains out.
Warning : E-rated content (5k of it...). Set post game in my head but no real spoilers.
Cross posted on AO3 (where you can check my other fics for them in my dedicated series)
Rook was slowly sipping a glass of gooseberry wine alongside an unusual guest. Dorian Pavus sent a letter a few weeks ago informing her that he was traveling around the continent, and would enjoy making a stop in Nevarra to greet her, as well as his former teacher.
Rook and Emmrich were delighted at the prospect of seeing him again and gladly accepted his invitation to share a meal in a famous and pricey restaurant of the capital.
Initially, they were supposed to meet there, but Dorian in his spontaneous fashion, decided to drop by their place before the scheduled hour of the meal, claiming he needed to see the décor of their shared lives.
So after a short visit of the house, Rook offered drinks while they waited for Emmrich, who was getting a bit tardy, retained no doubt in a longer than expected meeting.
Dorian started on his second glass as he admired the numerous displays of plants and flowers scattered around the living room, all lush and vibrant, visibly well nurtured.
âProfessor Volkarin is ever the romantic man he was often accused to be it seems. So many flowers he offers youâ He remarked, taking a large gulp of wine.
Rook smiled, but corrected him. âActually, those are all gifts from me to himâ
She brought those flowers back from her travels because she knew Emmrich had a passion for plants and botanic. He even told Harding once that he would have been a botanist if he did not happen to manifest a gift for corpse whispering.
At first, Rook would gift him bouquets, in the traditionnal way lovers did, but she quickly switched to potted plants that were more convenient to bring back, and avoided her the heartbreak of seeing Emmrichâs saddened expression when the fresh cut flowers eventually wilted. Only her sentimental lover could mourn flowers with such longing.
She loved how his eyes lit up each time she gifted him a new exotic plant, and how he got excited to research it aftewards. She became enamored with the way he would admire the frail blossoms every day; caress their pretty velvet petals each time he passed by, slowing down to take in their subtle perfume. Emmrich fell in love with flowers like he always seemed to fall in love with the beauty of life; with the magic of existence and the diversity of all things living. And it filled Rookâs heart to the brim with love for him.
Dorian was surprised by her confession, but mostly amused. âI understand now how you swept away the coveted and dashing Professor. You appealed to his tender heartâ
Rook knew Emmrich had many short idylls when younger, both with men and women. But none of them ever connected to him on the level Rook did. She came to suspect that Emmrichâs good looks attracted the more flighty lovers. Passionate no doubt, but quick to tire when they found out he was looking for a more significant bond. And despite his openess and kindness, Emmrichâs collected and controlled attitude could have intimidated more earnest options.
Rook was saddned by the thought, but glad that fate made it so that he waited for her.
âCoveted?â She asked curiously. She was admiteddly eager to hear more about her loverâs life before her, and Dorian was happy to provide.
âOf course. You canât possibly ignore that he moved many studentâs hearts. Mine includedâ
Rook blinked owlishly, setting her glass down and leaning toward Dorian with renewed curiosity. âReally?â
Dorian shrugged. âWell he is a passionnate and clever teacher; patient and sensible. I could listen to him talk about the most grotesque burial rites and ask for moreâ Dorian leaned forward too. âAnd youâre familiar with his-â He cleared his throat, reining in his gusto. â-his elegant figureâ
That she was familiar with indeed. Rook pictured the poor students, young and raging with hormones, having trouble focusing on the fascinating lessons just because Emmrich was the one who taught them. She wished she could spy on a lecture one day.
âDonât go stealing him awayâ She exagerratedly frowned at Dorian. âIâll get angryâ She joked but still made her claim in a vain ugly and unecessary jealousy. She knew Emmrich was hopelessly devoted to her and her to him.
Dorian laughed, airy and bright. âI wouldnât dream of it!â He got more serious then. âI know how strong a bond forged in facing death together can beâ
At first, Rook thought he was refering to the Inquisitor and Solas, that Dorian knew very well. But he seemed to speak of an even more personnal experience. Maybe he had someone dear to him. He told her once about a friend he visited a few times a year, whom he seemed closed with but couldnât introduce for political reasons. Someone special, but probably scandalous. Maybe he even had been visiting them before coming to Nevarra?
Rook desperatly wanted to ask for anecdotes from Emmrichâs younger days, but just when she was about to gather the courage to do so, the front door opened, and the subject of her curiosity soon entered the room.
Emmrich greeted Dorian, and apologized for his tardiness, claiming there had been complications with a routine cleansing of one of the Necropolisâ chambers. He then turned to greet Rook, but froze when he saw her outfit.
She was wearing the lilac dress.
He loved Rook in all states of dress or undress, but this one was his favourite. The one that made Rookâs leg look impossibly long with the slit on the side. The one that drew attention to her lovely cleavage without being too revealing. The one that hugged her forms but with elegance. The one that always promised heights of intimacy after a fancy outting.
Emmrich didnât have much time to delve onto Rookâs outfit choice for they were awaited at the restaurant. And what a lovely evening it was.
They sat at a quiet and cosy terasse under the moon and the stars. Each dish was better than the previous one, and accompanied by passionate discussions about magic, politics, as well as reminiscing of fond memories. If Rook drank a few glasses of wine, she stopped before she felt too inebriated. Emmrich and Dorian werenât as reasonnable, and kept filling the otherâs glass almost on reflex as they became absorbed in deep talks about necromancy and art.
When dessert was served, Rook mostly listened to their heated discussions with a smile on her lips. But she knew she was not forgotten. Far from it.
Emmrich kept stealing glances her way, his gaze filled with adoration. His fingers found her hand from time to time, and her thigh on rarer occasions. There were a few stolen caresses from his leg on hers too.
It could not be helped; she wore the lilac dress. The dress that made her look the most desirable and exquisite. She could feel herself longing for the end of this admitedly pleasant meal so she could steal her lover away for the night. Her excitement was buidling up from the looks he gave her and the prospect of a night of the passion that the lilac dress entailed.
They were in such good company and at their age, both Emmrich and Rook knew how to control themselves. But at one point, the meal started feeling endless, and Rook wondered if maybe she had been too adventurous when chosing that dress that she used to wear only when going out with Emmrich as a couple. She was delighted to reunite with Dorian, but eager for meal to be over.
When they finally stood up from the table, after hours, they were the last patrons in the restaurant. Emmrich was charmingly fuddled, but Dorian turned out to be completely drunk. He ingested more alcohol, given he started on an empty stomach while waiting for Emmrich with Rook.
After a small exchange in front of the restaurant, Rook and Emmrich insisted the tevinter mage slept at their place for he was in no capacity to walk back to the room he rented. It would be better if someone was around were he to feel sick, and also, despite the safety of Nevarraâs streets, Emmrich worried about muggers.
Dorian easily complied, letting himself be guided back to Rook and Emmrichâs shared house. While Emmrich wobblily dragged him to the spare bedroom and made sure he was comfortable, Rook stayed downstairs and set to cleaning the wine glasses they left when they departed. She hoped a distraction and a grounding and boring activity like cleaning would ease the tension inside her.
She was getting frustrated. She waited so long to go home with Emmrich, so sure they would soon be alone and the torture caused by her rising desire would end. But alas, things did not go as planned. Were higher forces punishing her for mischeviously planning ahead to have groundbreaking sex with her lover after an outting with a friend?
The problem was the lilac dress. It automatically gave expectations for the nightâs end. An automatic response to it that they built during months of her going out in it and then taking it off in front of Emmrichâs eager eyes. Usually the built up led to the most rewarding conclusion, but tonight, it was a trap of frustration.
Lost in her thoughts and memories of nights between the sheets, the lilac dress forgotten on the bedroomâs floor, Rook didnât notice Emmrich presence behind her until he hugged her from behind. She jolted a bit but soon relaxed as she recognized his touch and the scent of his cologne.
He rested his head on her shoulder with a long sigh.
âWhat a nightâ He commented, both exhausted and giddy.
Rook hummed in agreement and put away the glass she just finished wipping clean. It was late, and they would have to go to bed without their usual post outting naked embrace. She was slightly disappointed, but knew there would be many other occasions.
She tried to turn around and step away from the kitchenâs counter but Emmrich held her in place in a tight embrace. It seemed he was mourning the loss of their potential fun too.
She lifted her arm and threaded her fingers in his soft hair, lightly scratching his scalp before her hand traveled down and caressed his cheek. Emmrich responded with a few loving kissed on her palm. His right hand dropped down to the slit in her dress, parting it so he could touch the bare skin of her thigh.
Then he pressed himself harder against her back and she felt his need for her against her backside.
This was bad. Because she didnât want to move away and neither did he.
âWe shouldnâtâ Rook still whispered, trying to be a voice of reason.
Emmrich hummed but didnât let go. His rings were cool on Rookâs thigh as his palm hiked up her dress, deliciously contrasting with the heat of his skin. His left hand moved up from her waist to cup her breast, feeling the enticing weight of it in his large palm.
âIâm afraid I canât waitâ Emmrich breathed into her ear, placing a kiss to her lobe, pulling on it lightly to make her shiver. âThat wicked, lovely dress⊠I wanted you out of it the moment I came back home and saw it. Hadnât we have company, I would even have considered doing something about it before going out this timeâ
Rook had misplayed. She should have changed the second they came home. Or better, shouldnât have worn the damn dress at all. The Lilac dress was irresistible.
âDorian could hearâ Rook tried to argue with both her lover and her own desire. She had hoped for a night of fun but not with a guest in the house!
âOh. Not in the state heâs in, I donât think soâ Emmrich chuckled, the sound rich and deep, making Rook want to hear more in that low voice of his.
His hand on her chest gently pulled down the fabric hiding her cleavage from him, and he inhaled sharply when his eyes discovered her underwear.
âOh but this is gorgeous dearestâ He praised her choice of a refined creamy lacy bra.
It was a new one; really, what was she thinking when she dressed up? Horny. That was for sure.
Emmrich then hiked up the bottom part of the dress higher to uncover the matching panties.
Withtout hesitation, he slipped a finger underneath the fabric. Of course she was already soaked from hours of imagining a more tender version of this.
âWhat about Manfred ?â Rook choked out, her restraint and decency barely holding by a thread of lucidity.
Emmrichâs hand retreated to her hipbone. He hesitated. Manfred could be imprevisible and he once barged into their bedroom while they were in a compromising position because he heard Rook cry out and thought she was hurt. The explanation that followed had been laborious and the mood had been killed. Spiritâs behavious sometimes were unpredictable, and the watcher pondered the risks and benefits of the situation.
Rook and Emmrich werenât exhibitionnists, or careless about risking to be caught. They were usually quite vanilla and prefered to have tender sex in the intimacy of their locked bedroom, sure not to be disturbed. But Emmrich had a little bit too much wine and Rook was wearing the lilac dress. It was a devastating combo.
One other look down her cleavage, where the lace teasingly peeked out of the lilac fabric and Emmrich made up his mind. âYou will have to keep oh so very quiet then darlingâ He whispered into her ear, sending delicious shivers down her spine.
They never found themselves in this situation, and Rook started to feel impossibly excited by her loverâs boldness about taking risks. However she knew from the start that she simply couldnât stay quiet. She wouldnât be able to with how much she wanted him already and how well Emmrich always took care of her needs. Plus she was usually a bit vocal in bed.
âI canât do itâ She shook her head, but Emmrich grabbed her chin, angling her so he could place an insistant kiss on her lips.
âNonsense, Iâm sure you can dearestâ He encouraged her, leaving no room for discussion as he focused on pulling down her panties until they hit the floor.
His fingers found her clit not a second later, and already, Rook had to place a hand in front of her mouth to stiffle a loud moan. She waited so long for this and it simply felt too good to finally be touched.
She supported herself with her other hand on the counter as Emmrich began undoing her in a way only he had the secret to.
His gloved hand caressed her breast, fingers only brushing against her nipples from time to time, teasing her in the best way possible. He kissed her neck, her jaw, nipped at the sensitive spot below her ear.
âYou look so lovely in that dress darling. I am a lucky man indeed to be blessed with such a viewâ
While praising her looks and the softeness of her body, Emmrich abandonned her drenched core to expose her naked backside, bunching up the fabric of the dress at her hips. He pressed his clothed erection to where she most wanted him, unusually careless about the stain her wetness would leave on his clothes.
His teasing was the best kind of torture, and Rook ground back against him with an enthusiasm of a woman who had been abstinent for months and not only a few days.
He caressed her backside while he rubbed himself against her through his pants until she whimpered against her own hand, struggling to keep quiet, and his erection started to ache from the restraint of his clothes.
The sound of Emmrichâs belt being unbuckled was music to Rookâs ears. The watcher only opened a few buttons of his shirt to fight the heat creeping under his skin before he opened his trousers and freed his erection from his underwear.
The sensations from before heightened when this time Rook directly felt the velvety tip of Emmrichâs desire against her folds. He thrust against her first, sliding into her wetness, purposefully letting his tip graze against her clit with each lazy move. His fingers joined in to tease her, petting her with barely enough pressure, circling her entrance where the nerves were sensitive and alite with a burning need, but never penetrating her fully.
He was teasing her in the best way, slowly, meticulously escalating the burning desire that only grew crescendo from the beginning of the evening. She didnât think she could want it even more, but he drove her mad with his caresses. Which each new touch she felt like coming undone, but it always was robbed from her from a purposeful lack of the last little push she needed.
Emmrich was not one for quickies so him taking his time even in those circumstances shouldnât have surprised her. Despite caving and indulging in taking her in the kitchen, he was still so in control compared to her. She was sure he wanted to ravish her, but he kept them on edge, enjoying the thrill of it. He knew their bodies so well that he could keep her just right there for hours. She knew it, and the prospect of it both excited and terrified her. She had been waiting for so long already. She deserved to be rewarded and for her devoring lust to be satiated.
âPlease Emmrich â She finally begged, bordering on insanity, her words escaping between the moans she kept in check with her hand over her mouth.
Emmrich pressed himself to her entrance, barely breaching her before retreating, taking her breath away and making her thighs tremble.
She whinned with longing and frustration. She had never been so eager to feel him inside her in her whole life. She almost felt bullied, and tears started to form at the corners of her eyes. As if the stress from the risk they were taking and the fatigue of the evening werenât already taking enough of a toll on her body.
âI know mylove. I knowâ Emmrich caressed her back soothingly and ran a finger from her clit to her entrance in another agonizing caress âIâve got you darling, trust me, you wonât regret itâ He promised.
He moved the hand that was placed on her back up to the back of her neck, gently applying pressure to guide her down until she obendiently pressed her torso against the counter. She surrendered to him, head floppping onto her arms on the countertop, getting as comfortable as possible in this position.
âGood. There you goâ
Emmrich kept a hand on her neck, not restrictive but still assertive enough to make Rookâs mind spin. As he praised her, he swiftly entered her fully, her core welcoming him without an ounce of resistance. He paired the gesture with a wicked flick of his thumb on her puffy clit and before she knew it, Rook was screaming into her first, the sole feel of him finally indulging her after hours of waiting making her come harder than she ever expected.
Emmrich stayed burried deep inside her as she rode her height. He soothingly caressed her thigh when she started getting down from it, her breathing coming into short pants. He leaned forward and kissed her temple, where her hair clung wet to her sweaty forehead.
âThat was truly marvelous darlingâ He complimented her with both tenderness and raw desire. âI always wanted to try thisâ He confessed, the alcohol lowering his inhibitions and abolishing his restraint.
Rook mumbled something incomprehensible as he continued to praise her like she just did something incredible and he wasnât the one who just blew her mind.
âLet's continue in bedâ Emmrich offered in a flash of lucidity upon seeing the mess he already made of his dearest.
But her hand quickly grabbed his hip. No, this was too promising. She waited so long to have him inside her. And she wanted him to find release too. She shook her head.
âAre you sure you wouldnât be more comfortable in bed?â Emmrich insisted, but inhaled sharply when she clenched around him, holding him in place in a vice grip.
She didnât need to use her words, only pressed her behind to his bony hips and arched her back. She raised herself on the tip of her toes to angle her hips so he would reach deeper inside her, lewdly presenting herself for him to take full advantage of.
Emmrich had always been weak to her desires and so, he obliged her wordless plea. How could he not? She felt so good around him.
Despite his urge to ravish her, Emmrich started thrusting inside Rook at a slow pace, assessing what she could handle in her sensitive post-orgamic state.
He was rewarded with the most unashamed moans each time his tip caressed her deep inside. He rarely took her from behind, for he enjoyed more romantic embraces where he could see her face; but when he did, it made for the deepest and most groundbreaking penetration.
Rook didnât care for her noise anymore, her brain too scattered to remind her of any sense of shame or decency.
âShhh. Quiet darlingâ Emmrich tried to get her to lower the volume, but he could not resist increasing the pace given how well she was taking him.
She responded marvelously to his new tempo, her back arching and her mouth opening on a series of short blissfull whimpers.
Emmrich had trouble controlling his pacing from how she was sucking him in, openly invinting him in the very core of her intimacy. But she was growing too loud, even for this thrilling risky tryst.
âQuiet dear, or weâll have to stopâ He repeated, voice hoarse but assertive, one hand coming to press on her lower back to stop her from grinding back into him as she chased her pleasure.
Rook felt the pace slow more than heard her loverâs warning. The loss of friction left her distressed and still so impossibly aroused. It did not feel like she just came. She needed more. She felt insatiable, desire running wild and electric under her skin.
âNo please, please donât stop!â She begged, high pitched and teary.
Emmrich winced as she squirmed, squeezing him. Her voice was even louder as she pleaded with him; alarmingly so. He couldnât possibly get her to their room without her waking the whole household with her lament. It was almost worse than her moans. His teasing and the evening in the lilac dress had rendered Rook so scatterbrained that she couldnât be reasonned with anymore. Emmrich had to do something to end this disaster.
And so he took it upon himself to help keep his dearest quiet.
A yelp of surprise escaped Rook as a gloved hand pressed against her mouth, followed by a shameless moan as the leather on Emmrichâs fingers pressed into her cheeks. His work glove was opened at the palm, where she could lick and press kisses to the warm skin. The contrast of both sensations drove her crazy with need.
It was so rare of Emmrich to be so bold and bossy. She had to seize the opportunity. This was probably the most adventurous sex they had in many years.
Rook grew quiet and went immobile under her loverâs touch, surrendering herself once more to him, letting him dominate her fiery spirit because she knew he would take good care of her and bring her the best of gratifications.
With one hand on her mouth and the second one gripping the dip in her waist tight, Emmrich guided Rook back against him and started fucking her again. Deep and slow at first, then quicker, almost punishingly so as he lost himself into her. She resumed her loud moaning, thankfully muffled this time by his glove. Her bouncing on his hips was a sight for sore eyes, the slapping of skin against skin obscene in a way that usually could have revolted him, but mesmerized him tonight. Rook, indomitable Rook, was gorgeous and at his mercy, trusting him to fuck her brains out like she dreamt of all evening.
Emmrich himself imagined a few scenarios during the meal, all inspired by that lilac dress. But to be this lewd; he never would have thought it possible at his age.
He was surprised he could even handle the impossible rhythm with which he bullied Rookâs pliant body. She was wailing into his palm, drooling even, and he soon brought her weakened body closer to him, holding her steady as her thighs quivered. Her breast was escaping the restraints of her pretty lacy bra from the force of Emmrichâs thrusts in sinfully marevlous bounce. Truly, he never put her under so much vigor, and some part of him almost felt bad for making her cry out like she did. But Emmrich knew her body too well to not understand she was enjoying herself very much.
That height he was guiding her to would be devastating, and she feared it just as much as she wanted it.
Emmrichâs panting breaths fell into her ear and it felt amazing to witness him so hot and bothered. From the corner of her eye, she could see a few lose strands of hair falling on his forehead and sweat pearling on his temple from the effort of it all.
âCome on, take me with you my loveâ He encouraged her in an impossibly deep hushered voice as his rhythm started to falter from exhaustion, as well as his imminent release.
She felt on the precipice of death. The last small push of her undoing was a hard press of his hand between her legs; probably too rough, but perfect in that moment. With a cry of relief and bliss, she died a little death. Her whole body tensed and shook before it became impossibly relaxed, like she was floating, envelopped in a warm blanket of pleasure.
Emmrich followed after her, releasing as deep inside her as he could with a quiet moan, so careless and indecent compared to his usual habit of pulling out.
He hugged his lover close to him as he tried to get his breathing in check. His heart was thundering in his chest, his pulse thumping in his ears, making him a bit dizzy. He kissed Rookâs temple lovingly to ground himself and comfort her, but for one second, he was afraid she had passed out on him. Her pulse was quivering but weak, and her breathing surprisingly deep despite their recent activities.
âDarling. Are you still with me ?â He asked, worry seizing him once the post orgamisc haze had lifted.
Rook hummed, still conscient but her mind far away as she rubbed her cheek against his lovingly.
âYou were amazing. Truly beautiful.â Emmrich praised, relieved. His palm possesively splayed on her lower abdomen, where he filled her more than he ever did. Where she welcomed him and only him.
âNowâ Emmrich did his best to gather back his wits and be a gentleman again. âLetâs get you to bedâ
When he pulled out of her, he realized how much of a mess he made of her. An alarmed âoh dearâ conveyed both his mortification and his pride when he saw traces of him and her drip down her thighs. He carefully bunched up the lower part of her dress, and held it up in one hand so it wouldnât get stained. He then managed to lift Rook in his arms and carried her bridal style upstairs to their shared bedroom while she giggle blissfully.
There, he took care of her, cleaning her up and helping her change before he brought them both a glass of much needed fresh water. And maybe later, with the lilac dress forgotten on the floor, there was room for another (few) more tender embrace(s).

The following morning, Emmrich had trouble getting up as early as he usually did. Despite knowing they had a guest to tend to, he still sneaked down to the kitchen in his fanciest velvet dressing gown instead of actual clothes.
Downstairs, he found Manfred calmly reading in the sofa. Emmrich greeted the curiosity spirit, and congratulated him on his quiet behaviour. Together they then started making tea. Strongly infused tea.
Dorianâs footsteps were soon heard in the living room. He flopped onto the sofa with a heavy sigh. He tried his best to maintain his usually smooth and charming attitude but there were noticeable dark circles under his eyes. His complexion was a bit dull too.
Manfred placed a breakfast tray in front of him and Dorian turned away from it, visibly a bit nauseous. He looked up to find Emmrich approaching, nursing a cup of tea. The younger mage couldnât controle his surprised expression upon seeing his former professor in his night clothes.
âI am truly sorry for the poor display I offered last night Professor. I was so delighted with the evening that I got tricked by the port like a young boyâ Dorian said, running a hand through his hair to coiffe it better.
âOh donât worry about it. It happens. I myself overindulged too I fearâ Emmrich sighed as he sunk onto his favourite armchair. âAnd please, I already told you to call me Emmrichâ He tiredly added.
âRightâ Dorian nodded before he asked. âRook was the most reasonnable one it seemed when it came to intoxicationâ
A flashing image of Rookâs naked and soundly sleeping figure crossed Emmrichâs mind. When he woke up, he had lovingly pulled the covers over her to keep her warm and comfortable. At this hour, she was still recovering from a different kind of intoxication; one he tried not to think about, least he found himself embarassed in front of their guest.
âIf you wish to take a bath, please be my guestâ Emmrich redirected the conversation away from his lover, while also doing his best to be a decent host.
Dorian shook his head. âI think I shall leave you. I wouldnât wish to impose any longer. And I long for a few more hours of rest somewhere I wonât bother anyone.â
Emmrich nodded, placing his cup on the coffee table before getting up.
âI suppose I shanât see Rook before I leave?â Dorian asked, the hint of a smile lighting his tired expression.
Emmrich cleared his throat and put on his best charming smile, joining his hands together as he did when lecturing. âI am afraid she is feeling a bit under the weather. I could wake her if youâd likeâŠâ
Emmrich let Dorain interrupt him on purpose. âOh no, I wouldnât want to disturb her⊠restful sleepâ
Both men exchanged a look that made Emmrich realize they hadnât been quiet enough the previous night. The tip of his ears turned visibly pink, but Dorian knew from the glare he received that he better not comment on what he suspected.
âI shall leave her a note thenâ Dorian said, amusement in his raspy voice.
âYes, yes, perfectâ Emmrich agreed and told Manfred to fetch some paper.
<center>- - -</center>
When Rook finally rose from the bed, it was well past noon. Emmrich greeted her with a kiss to her forehead, asking if she slept well. Honestly, she slept like a log. After she nodded, she looked around the house.
âDorian is gone?â She remarqued, a hint of disappointment in her voice.
âIâm afraid so dear. He wished to be at peace to nurse his hangover. But he left a note for youâ Emmrich told her as he sat back in his armchair, the newspaper in hand.
Rook took the carefully folded paper from the coffee table. As she scanned the words, her expression switched from amusement to mortification.
âDid you read it?â She asked Emmrich while Manfred brought her a cup of tea that she accepted with enthusiasm, thanking the skeleton like he just brought her the most wonderful of gifts.
âOf course not. That would be most impolite and respectless of me. It is adressed to you dearestâ
Rook crawled to the edge of the couch and handed her lover the small piece of paper with a flushed face.
âDear Rook, I thank you for your hospitality. I had a wonderful eveningâ Emmrich chose to read aloud, but his voice faltered as the text came closer to its end. âBut probably not as enjoyable a night as yoursâ
Emmrich gulped and Rook hid her face in her hands in mortification as her lover whispered the last line. âI was glad to see you and the professor are blissfull in all aspects of your life as a coupleâ
Emmrich ran a hand over his face with a muttered âoh dearâ and Rook decided that from now on she would wear the lilac dress only when they got out just the two of them.

hello i was tagged by @18minutemajor for WIP Wednesday. it is not Wednesday but i am also not a cop so . here we gooo!!!!!!! tagging my esteemed colleagues (very politely and with no pressure!!!):
@neonfretra @oensible @sorrellegiance @moregraceful @stereax
@wheelsnipecelebrini
@korshrimpski (EDIT: it wonât?? let me tag you. unless these are on separate lines <3)
what's in-progress in your life <3 writing? art? recipe? skill acquisition?
if any crafty people see this - if ANYONE sees this - and would like to join in, feel free and consider yourself tagged <3 (and tag me back so i can see your stuff!!!) link to 18minutemajor's post if yall curious :3 my VERY long wip dump + ramblings under the cut!
its christmas soon and i like to paint gifts for my friends + and i'm finally revisiting my anime/lineart/inking era (here you are K!! my lineart past, present, and future!! <3) so here are some things i've been working on/coming back to/MAY NEVER FINISH: hockey related:
this is juraj slafkovsky and his dinky little middle part which he can absolutely learn to style into something a little less dinky but never does. i am so charmed by him. i imagine he just rocks it because his pretty privilege supersedes dinky middle parts . LMAO!!
here is Sasuke from my Naruto Hockey AU. I am a little stuck on jersey mockups lol. here he is. our haunted little 1OA who is absolutely normal and regular about his captain (LOUD incorrect buzzer):
personal oc art
wanna know some puckpocketed deep lore? i've never been one to make OCs. i was just not a very creative kid tbh. spent all my time drawing sailor moon instead. i still go back to her sometimes because she is one of my favourite shapes in the WORLD!!
in my 20s i took up playing d&d because of the. uh. plague. <3 and got pretty close to having OCs!! those count right? anyway. here is my tavern-wench-turned-wizard!!! i think i painted this 2 years ago? <- put dates on your works guys it saves lives. her name is Mel (short for Melins (pronounced like melons. on account of her knockers. can you tell i never grew out of my 12 yr old booby/cock joke era?) i revisited Mel recently and have started painting her in earnest again!! :3
I briefly dated someone who was very into streetwear and fashion, and I fell down a techwear/gorpcore/cyberpunk rabbit hole for a couple days out of curiosity. i remember literally zero salient info on any of it except the broad strokes of silhouetting and Vibes. what i emerged with, however, was a ?? sorta OC?? im not sure what to call them. they dont rly have a name or gender. I did this little sheet ages ago + the aborted attempt at a portrait later:
Here are my most recent explorations (i have been doing SOOOO much art. <3) which include:
unfinished character sheet + chibi art. I played with their jacket (much more structured/square/tailored thing) and added a lotta random buckles and belts. i took textiles class years ago and have a little experience in garment construction. and i know for a fact this thing does not make any sense. it hurts me to look at a little bit LMAO so i've paused it while i go draft patterns (badly. i was never good at drafting. i think i may have to break out my scrap fabric stash and hand sew a real life mock-up. HELP!)
here is me having fun with them and imagining them as some kind of cyber-fisherman. the best part of every game is the fishing mini-game to me. i love fishing mini-games so much. I made their hair really big because i wanted them to have big unwieldy hair and the vibes told me i should add more movement to the piece aside from the fishing line. I messed with their jacket AGAIN because i can't stop thinking about what kinda jacket they'd wear. gorp-core ? idk. it sure is something!
gifts for my friends :3
back in my weeb era for real YAYYYY!!! up til now i'd been making hockey art using a zero pressure sensitivity pen brush because i simply did NOT want to deal with that. it is and has always been a barrier to me making art that uses line art. <3 easing my way back into it though!
I used to paint gifts for my friends and then get them printed into lil posters and mount them on nice backing :3 i am now ready and back to painting.
Here is my girlbestie's OC. just a rough pose sketch. i think im pretty unsatisfied with the gesture of the head/hand. i wanted to include her gun in some way. i fear i may have to rework the pose entirely <3
For the genshin girlies.. here are some of my friends fave characters.
Yelan - this one i started many holidays ago and put on the backburner because the colouring was wigging me out. you can see where i started rendering stuff + got sidetracked and started on something else (the crystal choker IM LAUGHING @ past me...)
Ayaka - I reaaally like what i did here with the perspective + foreshortening. I don't know if the pose or expression is in-character or not, but i had fun :3 got stunlocked looking at references of genshin weapons so this is where i left off:
if you made it all the way down here hi... <3 ice hockey really cracked the ketchup bottle open for me when it comes to making art again. i love the communities i've found, and i'm inspired by every artist on here every day. thanks for being so cool + have a great day :)
#hiiii... late with starbucks (gigantic wip dump now i feel good about sharing again)#puckpainting#tag game#eye contact#the . the tag thingy for half of these aint working HELP <3

MOURN NOT FOR ICARUS~
ABOUT: very long, 8562 words
STORY: retelling of the greek myth with an addition to the end
WARNINGS: i mean i guess he dies lol
A/N: i wrote this almost a year ago but i've mentioned it a few times and people said i should post it so im posting it on my writing blog instead of my main.
There was a bird out the window. Icarus could not identify it, for he had never received formal education. However it was small. Each feather on its wings varied in different shades of brown, and it had a black face. Icarus watched as it flapped its beautiful wings, so gracefully flying across the view outside, and delicately landed atop a tall mountainside tree. The small bird did not have a nest in the tree. It only landed on a shaky branch and looked out at the scene below.
Icarus understood why the gentle creature simply perched itself there. He himself was perched at the windowsill, staring out at the ocean below. He found the rhythm of the waves mesmerizing. But more interesting than the movements of the water was what laid below. The tower in which Icarus and his father were trapped in was, though an unfortunate circumstance, built at the edge of a mountain. He could see the sea lapping onto the bottom of the cliff. It was hard not to appreciate the natural beauty of the sight.Â
Ahead, at the horizon, were more rocks and mountains, more islands. King Minos has imprisoned both Icarus and Daedalus on the island of Crete. After what his father had done, Icarus didnât see the punishment fit, especially as he had nothing to do with it. Yet there he was, sitting in the tower, admiring the cities from behind a window that would mean certain death if he leaned only a little closer.
âIcarus,â his fatherâs voice spoke from behind him. The young boy turned around quickly at the call of his name. He was met with the sight of Daedalus working with a collection of feathers and wax, an already agreed upon method to get themselves out of there. âHelp me with these wings.â
He was quick to do as he was told, glancing back at the view and the bird only once more before retreating from the windowsill. âYes, father.â Icarus took those few steps closer to the center of the room, though it wasnât far since the room was small.Â
The surrounding walls were old and adorned with nothing but dust and the slight growing of moss between the stones. Even the floor was empty, for there was no reason for King Minos to provide the prisoners with anything other than what was needed to fulfill basic needs, which he classified as food and water. Even those were given sparingly.Â
Daedalus sat on the ground leaning over the incomplete wings. The frame was already completed, made of materials that Icarus couldnât quite recognize. He had never been much of an inventor like his father, but although he never took interest in it, he always found it fascinating to watch. His eyes followed his Daedalusâ weathered hands as they bent the wire frame, preparing the wax and feathers. There were leather straps on either side, presumably for their arms when they wore the wings.Â
Icarus stepped closer and kneeled next to his father. Daedalus said nothing at first, holding the frame out in front of him and assessing his work. Then, with a nod of self-confirmation, he turned to Icarus. âNo,â he told the boy when he tried to touch the wire. âStand up, son. And put your arms out. I must add the feathers, but I cannot do so with the wings on the floor.âÂ
That statement made Icarusâ eyes brighten. He was already excited to fly; heâd been looking forward to it since his father first introduced the idea of it to him months ago. He knew that was the day that it was finally going to happen, the day they were finally going to free themselves from their prison, but now it was becoming more real. Once he had his wings on, all Daedalus had to do was put on his own and they would be able to jump from the window without falling to their deaths.Â
So, doing as he was told, Icarus stood up and opened his arms. He watched in awe as Daedalus carefully slid the straps of the wings over his arms, the leather cool and smooth against his skin. Icarus hadnât noticed another strap that was placed upon his torso, attaching the frame to his back.Â
He could not tell Daedalusâ emotions as he did this, for his face was expressionless, focused solely on not breaking the wings. However once he finished, Daedalus stepped a few steps back as if to admire his creation.Â
Icarus turned his neck to look at either arm, which were weighed down only slightly by the metal frame attached to them. Though the feathers werenât done being added, he still smiled. He was only getting closer to the moment of inevitable freedom.Â
The boy smiled at the thought, and at the wings themselves. Even if they were not finished, and even if he was not one to build such things, he did admire them almost as much as his father did. They were carefully constructed, delicate but strong so that it would be able to support his weight. A smile tugged at the corners of his mouth, one of genuine joy and excitement.Â
âI look like a bird, father,â Icarus laughed. It was a small observation, a comparison that made him smile wider. Daedalusâ face had been more critical as he had been examining the wings and how they looked on his son, trying to figure out the best way to attach the feathers, but his gaze softened at the childlike curiosity that came from Icarus. Daedalusâ eyes moved from the frame on the boyâs small body and met Icarusâ eyes, a small smile of his own growing on his face.Â
âYes, I suppose you do.â With a nod of approval, Daedalus then decided to begin with the feathers. Icarus continued to admire the wings on his back, waving his arms up and down until his father told him to stop before they broke. Then, Daedalus started working.Â
He had planned this for a while, but had to be careful as he worked to make sure that everything was done exactly and precisely as it should. He developed a technique of dipping the feathers into wax and carefully placing them on the wired frame of the wings. It took much patience and standing still, which was not easy for a young Icarus. Icarus had been standing there with his arms out for too long, and he was getting restless. Daedalus noticed this and decided to talk to his son in order to distract him from moving too much.Â
âDo you remember what Iâve told you about flying?â Daedalus asked softly as he worked. He was standing behind him, so Icarus stared out the window as he answered. Icarus noticed the bird was still there.Â
âYes, you said that we must be careful,â Icarus replied. âYou said that the wings are strong, but not perfect.â Daedalus nodded as he placed another feather on the wings. He was getting closer to finishing.Â
âAnd what must we do to be careful?â He pushed, wanting to ensure that Icarus knew what was needed to be safe while flying. Icarus sighed, as he had been warned many times of what to do, even before that day. Daedalus had the idea for so long that he had been explaining the dangers to Icarus far before the wings were close to being constructed.Â
âDo not fly too high or too low,â the boy spoke, echoing what heâd heard time and time before.
âThatâs right. Because too high and the sun will melt the wax, and too low and the water from the sea will dampen the feathers. We do not wish for the wings to break.âÂ
Icarus knew this. Heâd been told this plenty of times. Daedalus also understood that the repetition of these rules were most likely an annoyance to Icarus, but he still felt the need to reiterate them. Icarus had always had a sense of curiosity, a look of awe at everything his eyes perceived. He was inquisitive. Sure, Daedalus admired that; he was glad that his son had at least inherited something from him, if not his interest in inventing. But he knew how Icarus could be, and knew that no matter how many times he reminded him, a small part of Icarus would still want to explore the sky. Daedalus had to do his best to emphasize the danger to his son.Â
However the boy only found it irritating. Icarus knew what to do and knew that if he went too high or too low then the wings would break. It was obvious to him that he wouldnât be so reckless as to put himself in danger like that, so he didnât appreciate Daedalus saying the same thing over and over. Yet deep down, Icarus knew that his father only cared for him and wanted him to be safe. So he tried not to let it bother him too much, and to appreciate the love from his father.Â
Daedalus continued for what was a little under half an hour until he finally finished the wings. When he told him that he was completed, Icarus practically jumped up, though he was already standing. Icarusâ smile only grew wider as he spread his arms out and looked at the wings.Â
He didnât know where Daedalus had gotten the feathers, he only knew that he had been collecting them for a while. So Icarus didnât know which bird they belonged to, however they were a light tan color, almost an off white. Though they werenât the right shade of brown, he couldnât help but compare the wings to those of the bird out the window. It was a bird that he had been seeing a lot, though he wasnât sure if it was the same one each time or simply the same species. Either way, his mind kept returning to the bird as he thought himself to be similar.Â
Icarusâ excitement was palpable. He laughed as he lifted his arms up and down, mimicking a flapping motion. They were a bit heavier now, though not by much. The feathers were beautiful when they were all pressed together by wax, and he couldnât even see the frame anymore.Â
Daedalus looked pleased, not only to see the wings completed, but also to see his son so eager to fly. But of course before they could fly, he had to get his wings on and make them. Daedalus had started a bit on his own before, just to see if it was possible to do while someone wasnât wearing them, but decided it might be best if someone else were to do it. However he couldnât let Icarus put them on as he attached the feathers because Icarus was already wearing his pair. So Daedalus had to ever so carefully use the wax, like before, to put the feathers on his own wings.Â
But that wouldnât work forever. Eventually, he got to a point where the wings wouldnât balance somewhere on their own, so he had to put them on and asked Icarus to help him with the last few feathers.Â
Of course Icarus was more than willing to help. He wanted to be able to feel important, to feel like he was actually doing something useful and aiding their escape rather than just standing there and waiting impatiently for his father to have his wings ready to fly.Â
Icarus quickly went to stand behind his father, who had already put the almost-done wings on his back, and did as he was directed to finish them. He tried to imitate the movements of Daedalus in the way that he had been using wax to attach the feathers to the wingsâ frame. As he spoke he worked, rambling mostly out of anticipation.Â
âYou know, father, when we escape, the first thing I want to do is eat a proper meal. Itâs been far too long since weâve had that opportunity. Actually, maybe I will drink cleaner water first. That is a smarter decision.â Daedalus only listened with an amused smile on his face as his son spoke. âPerhaps the first thing I will eat is an olive.âÂ
That made his father chuckle. âAn olive? Is that so?âÂ
Icarus nodded, placing another wax-dipped feather on the wings. âYes, an olive. I like olives. I havenât had one since weâve been imprisoned.â
âYes, well, the olive tree is the sacred plant of goddess Athena,â he explained, wording things carefully so as to not upset the deity. âAnd I will tell you, humbly of course, that my genius for inventing and such was a blessing from the goddess of wisdom herself.â That made Icarusâ eyes widen. He hadnât known that. âSo, as my son, perhaps she will favor you and give you the best olive.âÂ
The young boy grinned. It was new information to him that his father was blessed by a goddess, let alone one as powerful as Athena. And the idea that she would favor him as well was exhilarating, even if it only resulted in a single, well-tasting olive.Â
Finally, after what felt like a lifetime to the impatient Icarus, but couldnât have been more than an hour, they were finished. Icarus placed the last feather on his fatherâs wings, and Daedalus checked his own and his sonâs to make sure they were intact and in the right condition to fly. Icarus, though not saying anything about it, was proud of himself for managing to finish Daedalusâ wings for him, even if the job had been relatively small. Just as he wanted, he felt important, he felt useful.
And now the time had finally come for the wings themselves to be useful.
The moment he decided they were finished, Daedalus got straight to the point. âWe must be quick, Icarus,â he told his son. âI do not know how much time we have.â They both knew that he didnât mean time left in the day; the sun, shining in all its glory, was still directly above them in the sky. However it was King Minos, their captor, who they feared. He did not enter their prison often, almost no one did, but those who were meant to feed them or check on them would come at arbitrary intervals. At any second could someone enter and discover their plan for escape. If that happened, there would certainly be punishments- punishments that Daedalus did not want Icarus to have to live through.
Icarus only nodded, understanding what his father was thinking. He waited for further instruction, but already knew that their next move was going to be: fly.
Daedalus stepped closer to the window starting by simply looking out and assessing the view, noting the height at which they were at and how if the wings were to break or malfunction, they would not be able to survive the fall. Especially not if they landed in the water. He took a deep breath and turned back to Icarus, who had also been looking out the window eagerly.Â
âI know I have told you countless times before,â Daedalus began once more, wanting to stress as much as possible the dangers to his son. âBut you will stay by me. When we jump out this window, give yourself a couple of seconds for the wings to begin gliding; do not panic if you feel you are to fall because you will not fall.â Icarus let out a sigh of irritation, but Daedalus continued. âAnd you will stay behind me as we fly. As Iâve said, do not go too high, as the sun will melt the wax, and do not go too low, as the water will dampen the feathers. Do you understand?âÂ
Daedalus knew that Icarus understood. He knew how much the boy cared about himself. He knew that he would never do something so reckless as to risk his life, he knew that. Icarus had so much to look forward to in his life; he was young and had much potential. Even if he wasnât aware of it himself, Daedalus knew that the young boy had so much of his life ahead of him. He would never do something to lose that.Â
âYes, father.âÂ
For a few moments, their eyes were met. They both were aware of the risk they were about to take, of how much danger they were putting themselves in. Even if Icarus did as he was told, and even if Daedalus was so sure of his wings, there was always a chance that things would go wrong. Not just the possibility of a flaw in the making of the wings, but also the looming possibility that the gods themselves would interfere.Â
Zeus was the god of the sky. If he wasnât happy with them in his domain, he could easily strike them down before they even made it to the next island. Daedalus knew this. That was a risk he was willing to take.Â
He nodded, and then broke eye contact with his son.Â
One last time, Icarus looked around the small room that had been their unwelcome home for too long. The cold stone walls and floor. The furnishings, or lack thereof. The damp scent. He was relieved to be leaving, to have the smell of moss overgrowth replaced by that of the ocean. Not only relieved but, of course, excited. He took a deep breath and turned back to the window. The bird was still there, sitting out on the tree. But when it suddenly got up and flew away, Icarus no longer watched it in jealousy, for he knew that at last he would get to do the same.Â
Daedalus took the final moment before their escape to say a prayer. He prayed to Zeus, wishing for the king of the gods to grant them safe passing over his skies. They were not out of Zeusâ favor, the father and son, but not necessarily within it, either. And since the gods didnât simply reply to favors like that so quickly, there was nothing more they could do in that moment than pray and hope he was in a good mood that day.Â
Then, that was it. There was nothing else. No more wings to finish, no more rules to reiterate, no more prayers to be said. They had done everything part of their plan but one. There was only one thing for them to do, and it was jump out that window and finally, finally, be free.Â
No words were exchanged between the two of them, only another small nod of acknowledgment, as Daedalus took the initiative to step up to the windowsill first. If the wings wouldnât work, he told himself, he wanted to be the one to find out. Not Icarus.Â
Icarus watched, his impatience only growing, as his father carefully climbed into the small window. He had to be careful in how he fit himself in it, so that the wings would fit as well and not be squished in the cramped space. Icarus let himself take a few steps closer, too. Because the moment Daedalus took off, it was only a matter of seconds until he would have to follow.Â
The man did not look back to see Icarusâ reaction. He didnât want the boy to realize the fear in his eyes. He didnât want him to notice the shaking in his hands as he got so close to the edge, closer than he ever would, because normally that close would mean death. But this was not normal. They had wings, and they would fly.
âGo.â
That was the only warning Icarus had that his father had jumped. It took him longer than it should have for him to actually process what heâd just watched: his father jumping out of a window. Yes, there were wings, but for a few seconds, it simply appeared that he had fallen. He was now alone in the tower. There really was no turning back.
When he snapped back to the present, Icarus rushed over to the window and tried not to focus on how high up he was, how he couldnât find Daedalus in the sky at first glance, how small everything was below. He forced himself to take a deep breath, climbed into the windowsill, and closed his eyes, holding his breath as he jumped.
Icarus was falling.Â
That was the first and only thing he could register. He didnât open his eyes, didnât grant himself the horror of seeing how fast he was falling towards the ground. He knew the wings would work, Daedalus had warned him that it would take a few seconds before they actually began to glide. But those few seconds were terrifying.Â
Icarus could hear his heartbeat in his ears, almost drowned out by the wind rushing past him. He could also feel that wind, through his hair, through his entire body. He felt the disorientation of tumbling, his stomach turning, heart pounding, breath taken from the shock of the moment. Panic settled in- why wasnât he flying? He was supposed to fly. The wings clung to him, feeling more like dead weight than anything else. They werenât working, he thought. They werenât working, they werenât working, they werenât-
As he fell, Icarus suddenly felt a change. A subtle resistance to the pull of gravity. The wind slowly stopped rushing past him, and as it slowed down he reminded himself to spread his arms out even more. His eyes were still squeezed shut, but he forced himself to open them once the falling had slowed.
Icarus was flying.
He was flying like the bird heâd been watching enviously for far too long. He could no longer feel the wind rushing past him, but as the breeze picked up, he felt he was part of the wind. With his eyes open now, Icarus allowed himself to look down with no fear. He was not scared anymore. He was thrilled.
The view below was even better from the sky itself than from the window. He could actually see the rest of the town to his right, which he hadnât been able to see from the tower. There were homes, buildings, the little ants below he realized were people, and trees- olive trees. He smiled at that. Not only at that but the fact that he was flying. He was doing it, he was finally doing it! This was the most amazing moment of his life.Â
Directly below him was the sea. It was a beautiful combination of green and blue and even white with the foam from the waves. Above him was the sky, the clear sky. There were no clouds, only the bright, brilliant sun against the blue above.Â
But, of course, he could never get too close to either of them.
Icarus shifted his focus. He had to find his father and follow him, as heâd been instructed. He lifted his head from admiring the sights to looking about the sky around him, letting out a breathless sigh of relief when he saw Daedalus several feet ahead of him. The man was facing him, too, as if theyâd been searching for each other.
It was a strange sight, seeing Daedalus flying. The wings on his back looked so gentle, and he knew how delicate they were. They were strong, however, clearly enough to carry the large man. They looked like they didnât quite belong on Daedalus. In a way, they almost made him look like an angel.
Icarus chuckled to himself at that thought, though it was probably a bit more animated than usual since he was already experiencing so much joy. He wondered if he, too, looked like an angel.
The father and son were far apart, but the moment their eyes met there was an unspoken understanding. Even if they couldnât quite make out the otherâs expression, even if there was no way theyâd be able to hear the other if they actually spoke, they could tell how the other felt. Daedalus let himself smile at the complete, genuine joy his son was exuding. Then, making sure that Icarus was still going the right direction with him, he turned away and focused himself on flying towards the nearest island that was not the one theyâd just escaped from. He could see it in the distance, not much further. Theyâd just have to keep going on the straight path, and theyâd be there soon enough.
Icarus knew that this was the goal, to get to another island and be free. Drink fresh water, eat an olive, whatever they wanted to do. And seeing the island, so close yet so far, was only making it more exciting.Â
For a long while, they simply flew. It only took Icarus a couple minutes to get the reins of the wings and figure them out. He quickly taught himself how to turn either direction, how to angle himself upwards or downwards. But he didnât use that, of course, other than where he had to in order to direct himself in the right direction after Daedalus. He stayed close behind his father as they flew together, feeling the wind beneath his arms and breathing in the air, salty from the ocean below.Â
It was then, in experimenting with the mechanics and controls of the wings, that Icarus made his mistake.
He began carefully, still heeding the warnings that Daedalus had given him. Icarus let himself glide lower, closer and closer to the waterâs surface. It was gradual and considerate, not to put himself in danger. He knew the risks of getting too close, he knew that he should just stay directly behind his father. But he could still see Daedalus from where he was, a little below him now, and Daedalus was not looking back anymore. So as long as he continued to be careful, he could test the limits of the wings without them breaking. Or so he thought.Â
Icarus slowly descended lower. It was almost that same feeling of free falling before, but this time much more controlled. There was not a single ounce of panic in him as he got closer to the water. The wind was rushing past him again, making it all the more exhilarating. Icarus was careful to spread the wings out as much as he could and use them the right way as to not lose control.Â
When he got close enough, he could feel the water on himself. He was just low enough so that he wasnât touching the ocean, but he could see it right there, right in front of him. The greens, the blues, the whites, the shining reflection of the sun. He could feel the cool droplets of water against his bare arms, too caught up in the pure delight of the moment to realize that the wings were being wet by the water, too.
Icarus was laughing. He was smiling. He was happier in that moment than he had ever been in his whole life. After so long being imprisoned, he felt free. This moment, being by the water, was more freedom than he could have ever imagined. He didnât want it to end; he wanted that moment to last forever. He wished he could be suspended in time, always feeling such liberation and elation.Â
Since that wish was impossible, he decided to take it a step further.Â
He was already taking a major risk by allowing himself to get so close to the sea. Heâd been told exactly not to do that. Icarus respected his father, loved his father, and would never intentionally go against him. But the lure of it all was too big. The feeling he got from it all was indescribable. He felt invincible. So far, Zeus had accepted their prayer for mercy in his realm and was allowing them safe passage. Maybe, Icarus dared to hope, Zeus was allowing him this moment. Maybe he was letting him risk the dangers because he understood.Â
The king of Olympus was not an understanding god. But Icarus didnât know that.
Icarus allowed himself another deep breath, breathing in the salt from the ocean, taking in the reality of the moment, before swooping back up to meet the same level as his father in the sky. Daedalus seemed not to have noticed that Icarus had done such an unsafe thing, and was continuing to fly.Â
Once he was back where he was supposed to have been all along, Icarus only flew straight ahead for a minute or so until he just couldnât resist the temptation of something different this time- not the sea, but the sun.Â
Icarus looked up. If he had already gone too low without the wings being ruined, he could go a bit higher, right? Perhaps Daedalus had just been underestimating the strength of his wings. If he really had been blessed by Athena, surely they would be able to withstand a little heat from the sun. Theyâd survived the water, so he was certain that theyâd survive the sun, too.Â
So he took that risk and flew up. By this point, he had so much control over the wings, had figured out the small details with such perfection in such little time, that he knew how to raise himself higher and higher, steadily moving himself up into the sky.Â
Daedalus still did not notice. He had made the mistake of trusting that his son would never be so reckless, would never be so ignorant to his own warnings. He did not look back and see that Icarus was no longer behind him. He did not know that Icarus was in fact getting so distracted and off-path that he could not even see Daedalus in the sky anymore. He did not realize that Icarus had been blinded in the most literal sense by his desires. If he had noticed, maybe he would have been able to do something to save him from himself.
Icarus, on the other hand, was relieved that his father did not realize. He knew that it would only anger him. So he could not say why he was doing it, why he was getting higher, why he was allowing himself the pleasure of attempting to reach the sun itself. It was not that he wanted to disobey his father. He did not want to go against his orders. He only wanted to have fun, and fun did he have.Â
He was carried away by the moment, not realizing what he was really doing. Icarus just kept getting higher and higher, closer and closer to the sun, farther and farther from Daedalus, who remained oblivious. Icarusâ laughing had restarted again, the smiling on his face growing impossibly wider. He thought he had felt good close to the water; this was even better. The bigger the clouds and sun looked above him, the smaller everything else looked below him. He was soon able to actually feel the heat of the sun on his skin, more than one did on the ground. He could feel it on his face, like that of the flame of a candle. Warm and inviting, friendly, egging him on to get closer, convincing him that no harm could be done. He was having too much fun, being too foolish that he actually believed it.Â
It stayed that way, all fun and entertaining. The pull of the sun was so incicing. The thrill of the flying itself was too great. The feeling of it all was the best thing he had ever experienced, the best high--to the most exact meaning--that he knew could ever be achieved. Icarus was, in that moment, the closest any mortal had ever been to the sun, the highest anyone had ever been in the sky.Â
Icarus was the closest any mortal had been to the gods.
And he felt like a god. He felt invincible, infallible, strong, powerful, he felt unstoppable. He felt like he had become that bird that he had admired. He felt like he could fly anywhere, do anything, touch the sky. That was exactly what his mind was set on doing.Â
Things didnât change when Icarus began to smell something off. It wasnât the smell of the ocean- no, that was long gone. Heâd gone far too high for that. It was a smell that was accompanied by the sensation of something hot against his skin. Something other than the heat of the sun itself. He was so intoxicated by the pure feeling of euphoria that it took him longer than it should have for him to realize that the feeling of heat and the scent that he couldnât put his finger on was actually coming from the wings.Â
The sun was melting the wax, just as Daedalus had warned.Â
Icarus didnât stop when he felt this. He was still consumed by that sense of power and god-likeness. He didnât want to stop, regardless of the wings melting.
Perhaps he realized that it was too late for him by then. Perhaps he realized that he was too far from the island to make it, he was flying over the middle of the ocean, not close enough to any to manage to glide himself to safety. Perhaps he realized that once the wings had begun to melt, there was nothing he could do about it. Perhaps he realized that he was going to die.Â
So there Icarus was, flying like a bird for the first and last time. He didnât let himself come to terms with the fact that he was not going to get that one olive, the fact that he was not going to have any of the hopeful future that had been promised to him. He did not want to be overwhelmed by the reality that he was not going to get to apologize to Daedalus for disobeying. He only wanted to continue feeling the hot sun, not the hot wax. To feel that freedom one last time.Â
In what he realized to be his final moments, he let himself close his eyes. He once again did not want to see how quick he may have been falling to the ground once the wax completely melted from the wings.Â
Icarus imagined himself to be the stick of a candle, the wings to be the wick, and the sun to be the flame. For a small time, the wick would burn. The candle would be alight, shining brilliantly, lighting up the space for as long as the wick could last. Until inevitably, the wick reached its end, the candle burning out. Until the wick finally died, reaching the stick of the candle and engulfing that, too, in flames.Â
His laughter was the only sound echoing through the skies as he fell, the only thing alerting Daedalus that his son had flown too close to the sun and paid the price.Â
***
His mind was still swimming. He could barely remember what happened, and didn't know where he was. He sat up but kept his eyes closed. But wait, he thought, that was wrong. He shouldnât have been able to sit up. He was supposed to be dead. He shouldnât even have a body anymore, he shouldnât be anywhere other than the Underworld. But light was seeping through his closed eyelids, and he knew with absolute certainty that he was not in the dark depths of the Underworld.Â
But then again, heâd also been certain that the wings would not melt under the sun.
Icarus reached a hand up to his forehead to try to stop it from pounding, almost losing his balance in the process. He took a deep breath, surprised that he had the capability to breathe. This was all wrong;Â he had died. He remembered the wings breaking entirely and sending him crashing into the ocean below. He remembered death; he remembered the moments before it, too, when heâd accepted his fate. Where was he now, and why did he feel alive again? âIcarus.â The voice that spoke his name was one of power. It was deep, serious, demanding respect. It made his name no longer just a name, but a command. He forced himself to look up and open his eyes, squinting them at the figure before him.
It was a man, a man who somehow carried youthful features yet an expression weighed down by years upon years. A man who was completely ageless, both extremely old and extremely young. The man had blonde hair and wore a perfectly white toga that managed to still look bright white against his pale skin. He was muscular and had a strong jawline. Everything about the man was⊠perfect. It took Icarus a few moments to realize that the man was watching him emotionlessly with glowing golden eyes. Then he realized that all of him was glowing, he was shining like the sun.
Icarus realized that the man before him was no man at all. He was a god.
When the realization set in, Icarus forced himself to stand up, ignoring the dizziness. Maybe it was a bad decision of him to try to stand up in front of someone so powerful, he should probably have kneeled, but being sprawled across the ground half sat up was probably not very respectful, either. When Icarus stood, he let himself look around and noticed that their surroundings were essentially all white. They must have been in the sky somewhere, in the clouds.Â
Icarus was so overwhelmed by the situation, not comprehending it all. He didnât really think when he pointed his finger at the god--something he immediately regretted--and blurted the obvious:
âYouâre Apollo.â
Then he quickly realized his error and tried to correct it with a sloppy bow. No one had ever taught the young Icarus how to act in front of a god. Thankfully, Apollo was not upset or insulted by the boyâs actions, though his expression remained blank. Icarus could not tell what he was thinking, and for some reason it made him anxious.
Apollo only nodded. âIndeed I am.â He watched as Icarus straightened up from his bow. Icarus felt like he was being scrutinized under the godâs divine eyes, and didnât know whether to meet them or to look away. He was completely unprepared for this moment. âTake off those wings.â
Icarus hadnât realized that the wings were still attached to him. Theyâd somehow stayed to his form into the afterlife- or at least he assumed this was the afterlife. He had no idea what was happening. Though now, the wings were mutilated. The wax had melted not entirely, but enough so they could not fly any longer. An entire part of the back was waxless, and everywhere else was either half-melted or had feathers missing. The sad remnants were clinging desperately to the now weakened frame. He obeyed Apolloâs order immediately and began fumbling to slide the leather straps off of him.
The wings fell soundlessly to the floor, which Icarus still didnât know what that floor was. He then looked back up at Apollo, who still only stared at him. Icarus stood there uncomfortably for a few seconds, and then took the silent stare as his cue to step away. Once he did, Apollo stepped forward, leaned down, and picked up the wings, examining them with a certain detached interest.Â
âFine craftsmanship,â the god noted, looking at the slightly-terrified Icarus again. âI assume your father made them?â The boy nodded quickly.Â
âYes, he did. And I helped. Well, not with this pair but with his.â He then decided he should have left the answer at yes and not given unnecessary explanation.Â
He really was a mess.Â
Apollo nodded. He seemed to still not have been offended by Icarusâ unrehearsed nature. He simply spoke to him as if he were any other man, rather than a child who was both in awe and fear of the powerful being before him. Apollo turned his attention back to the wings, plucking a single feather off of them before dropping them back to the ground. Icarus cringed as he dropped them so carelessly but was afraid to say anything about it.Â
âDo you know why you are here, Icarus?â The speaking of his name once again made him nervous, as Icarus felt so minor and insignificant in the presence of a god. His name didnât deserve to be said by Apolloâs mouth; he didnât deserve to be speaking with him.Â
Icarus hesitated before answering. âBecause⊠I died. But, forgive me if I am wrong, but this is not the Underworld.â Apollo waved his hand dismissively.Â
âNo, no, of course not. I would never go down there. Itâs quite the opposite of my realm.â
His realm. It took Icarus a few moments to think about that. Apollo was the god of many things, he knew that. Medicine, prophecy, music, archery, the sun-
Oh.Â
Icarus suddenly knew why he was there. His heart dropped to his stomach. He had been trying to do the impossible, to touch the sun. Daedalus had only been considering the god of the sky when deciding to pray for safe passage while flying. They hadnât thought about the other gods who ruled the above, too. Had he upset Apollo with his recklessness?
âNo, Icarus, you are not in the Underworld,â Apollo continued. âI stopped you on your path to Hades; I wanted to speak with you. Mortals die every minute, you see, but itâs not everyday I find one like you.âÂ
Icarus swallowed hard. The way Apollo spoke, he still couldnât tell what he was thinking about this whole situation. He couldnât tell if he really had offended him or not, and it was nerve-wracking.Â
âI- I apologize if I insulted you, Lord Apollo,â he began carefully, the title sounding too formal for his young mouth. âI had no intention to.â Apollo shook his head.Â
âDo not apologize. To me, at least. I am not insulted. If anything I am flattered, really. Most mortals fear the sun; they fear me. You, however, seem to have no such opinion. It was quite entertaining to watch, I will admit. Such courage you have for such a young boy. I must ask, Icarus, why do you not fear me?â
Icarus was taken aback by that statement. He had flattered the god? By being an idiot. It didnât make any sense. Apollo should have been offended, he should have wanted to torture or hurt Icarus in his afterlife after he attempted to go beyond the mortal realm. But⊠he didnât. Icarus didnât know how to react.Â
And the mention of his father, the reminder that he had gone directly against what Daedalus had instructed, hit Icarus like a punch to the gut. A reminder that he had disobeyed and gotten himself killed for it. He didnât want to think about Daedalus just then; he wanted to figure out why and how heâd managed to flatter the god of the sun. Icarus took a deep breath.Â
âI do fear you,â he admitted plainly. He didnât know what more to say.Â
Apollo was responding so casually that it made Icarus uncomfortable. He chuckled at his response, which didnât make him feel any better- though Icarus had to admit that the sound of godly laughter was beautiful. âAs you should, I suppose. But if you fear me, and I assume you must also fear death, why would you make such a rash decision and attempt to reach my sun?â
Icarus still was struggling to find the right words. He didnât know how to explain his curiosity, it really had been an indescribable experience. The joy heâd felt in that moment was too much to ignore, heâd simply wanted to continue to go higher and higher. The skies had felt so limitless, the sun had felt so close. The consequences were unimportant as he flew, but now he was faced directly with them.Â
âBecause I wished to feel free.â That was the only explanation that Icarus could manage. Apollo raised an eyebrow.
âFree? You would have had more freedom if you hadnât died, would you not? You gave up the rest of your life for a small taste of freedom?âÂ
Icarus only nodded. He was still at a loss for words, still trying to comprehend the entire interaction with someone so powerful. Apollo sighed, looking down at the small feather in his hand that he had taken from the wings.Â
âMortals are interesting creatures,â he explained. âThey are born, live for so little, then die. But they find so much more to their lives. Theyâre born nobody, yet believe that they can become something great. Itâs almost saddening to watch this endless cycle of life and death. To see the excitement in their eyes as they embark on a journey that will inevitably lead to their end. I donât understand how you do it, how you keep yourselves so optimistic when you know that in half a century, more or less, you will be nothing more than a memory to the rest of the world.
âMortals value their lives, no matter how insignificant. So that is why you interest me. You want to live long, you want to be important, yet you let yourself come to an early end for the sake of something as small and temporary as a fleeting feeling.âÂ
The god took a deep breath, running a finger down the soft feather, and looked back up at Icarus. The boy was only watching him, listening to an immortalâs perspective of mortality. If Icarus hadnât been able to find the right words before, he was completely lost then.Â
Icarus met Apolloâs gaze. The immortal was looking at him with something in his golden eyes that was noticeable now: a look of sympathy. Compassion. Perhaps even pity.Â
He didnât think a god to be capable of such human emotions.Â
âI mean⊠I justâŠâ Icarus tried to provide the god some explanation to his unexplainable actions. Apollo was watching him with interest as he spoke, the emotion in his expression barely there yet still noticeable. Icarus spoke slowly, his mind still turning as he explained. âI didnât want to die. I wasnât thinking. I had been trapped for so long⊠I got carried away by it all. I- I felt free, like I wanted, and I didnât want to stop. I wanted to make that feeling last forever.âÂ
Apollo studied the boy before him. He took note of his imperfections, his mortality. Even in death, Icarusâ hair had been ruffled from flight. His arms were red, presumably as a result of the wax melting off the wings and onto his skin. His clothes were tattered. The look on his face was one of fear and vulnerability. Apollo was used to mortals looking at him with that sense of terror, but this was somehow different. Something about Icarusâ youth and innocence. Apollo still didnât understand how humans worked, how they managed to make such careless decisions, how they grappled with their inescapable death. But watching this young man try to explain himself, he thought that maybe once he could at least understand.Â
âYou are a fascinating mortal, Icarus. That is a compliment coming from me.â
Icarus swallowed hard. âThank you.â
This entire conversation was unnerving, but he sensed a slight change in the godâs demeanor, perhaps a tinge of compassion. And heâd just been complimented by Apollo himself. He never thought that flying too close to the sun and doing exactly the opposite of what his father told him to do would lead to a compliment from one of the most powerful beings in the universe. But of the many things he was still unsure of in that moment, there was one question that came to mind:
âWhat will happen to me now?â He was almost afraid to ask.Â
âWell,â Apollo began. âYou will go to the Underworld and be judged, as all mortals are. That will determine where you spend the rest of eternity. You are not receiving any special treatment in your afterlife; I simply wanted to speak with you. And spoken with you I have.â Icarus was silent for a few moments, but then nodded slowly. But before he could give a verbal response, Apollo spoke. âYour father will mourn you greatly.â
Icarus was once again taken aback by that. He couldnât quite tell if that was simply the god stating the obvious, or if it was some sort of order or curse, and he was too afraid to ask. âYes, I am aware.â But Apolloâs next words surprised him yet again.
âDo you wish for him to?âÂ
Icarus froze. He didnât want Daedalus to be saddened by his death, but of course he would be. His son had died, after all. It only made sense for him to mourn the loss of his own blood, the boy he had so carefully raised and loved. The child whoâd become his closest partner in life. He didnât want his father to be in grief.Â
âI wish for my father to be happy.âÂ
Apollo nodded thoughtfully. âHappiness. That is what you felt when you fell, correct? Daedalus will know that. He will know that you were happy.â
Icarusâ eyes lit up. âYou can do that?â He didnât know if he would end up happy in the afterlife, or if he would receive punishment for being reckless. But at least in that moment, that small moment with Apollo, he was happy again. And Icarus knew that if Daedalus knew that, it would make him happy, too. Happiness was something neither of them had felt in so long. It was another feeling that had made the flight so intoxicating for Icarus.
âYes,â Apollo said. âI can do many things.â
Then, before Icarus could express his gratitude, before he could say or do anything more, the entire moment shattered. Apollo disappeared, everything around them was gone.Â
His conversation with the god was done. He was no longer in the in-between of life and death. Icarus was dead and would have to face the consequences of his actions. He would have to be judged, his eternal fate decided once and for all.Â
But he would do all this with the knowledge that his father would know how he felt in those final moments. He would go to the Underworld knowing that he was happy then and now. He would enter the beginning of his afterlife knowing that eventually, Daedalus would get over the loss of his son.Â
Icarus didnât know what Apollo gained from that conversation. He didnât understand why the god had taken such interest in him. But he did know one thing for certain:
He had died, yes, but he had felt freedom. He had found that feeling of happiness that had been missing for so long. Perhaps he had a small sense of remorse for his actions. If he hadnât died, he would have been free with Daedalus, and they could have lived long lives together out of the tower that had confined them for so long. But in the end, he accepted his fate. He really was happy.
Because even if it killed him, he had touched the sun.

ââ STOP AND READ YALL
Hi idk where to start with this but recently i've learnt a lesson and it is to STAY SAFE ON THE FUCKING INTERNET. PEOPLE ARE NOT WHO THEY SAY THEY ARE.
So why do i say this? Well I had a great friend I made @ cupiddoe (she's obviously blocked me) and we used to talk alot. On discord too. Now after talking to her a few months and learning about how she was "19 years old, about to get married, is tunisian, a hijabi" and sending me a face reveal I thought omg i know her so well! She's one of my greatest friends on tumblr.
WRONG.
A friend of mine found the ig page of a hijabi egyptian influencer who looks exactly the same as "cupiddoe" (aka kmar). Now why do they look the same? Because kmar has been using her photos and pretending to be someone she's not. Lets mention some of the many things she's lied about her age (99% sure she's a minor and not 19), what she looks like, her marriage and basically a lot of other shit she's spoken to me about.
Yes I could expose her with screenshots right now. I have evidence. I have proof. But no i'm not going to spend that much time and effort on someone like her. So instead I'm kindly asking you all to either report her account or unfollow her because she's probably spewing the same lies to you too. I'm not doing this because i'm a hater i'm doing this because I don't want anyone to fall in the same trap.
Some of you may ask "Berry why tf were u so gullible?" and thats a great question! I dont know. I just am and i feel used. I spent so much of my time talking to her and today when i tried asking her who she really was and what her real intentions were (i was extremely polite if i do say so myself) she replied with a simple "okay". I'm not doing this so yall send her hate, im doing this to inform you and so you understand the dangers of being online and also to maybe stay away from her? I can't force you to buttt yeah <3
Tagging people to spread the message and people who knew her:
@thelov3lybookworm @merwgue @rxsewqter @hijabi-desi-bookworm @achaotichuman @nnanscy
@wavetotheangels @ghosttownheart @readychilledwine @viktoriaashleyyx @cassie6392
@tsunami-of-tears @never-enough-novels @fell-in-luvs @book-girl4evaaa @im-on-crack-send-help
The point of this post is to spread awareness and remind people that not everyone is who they say they are <3
Also yes I have messaged the actual girl on ig and so has a friend to notify her. I'm not going to share her ig because it's unfair on her <3
and if you really don't believe me i can send proof but i dont see the point in that
#berryrambles#stay safe out there yall#i sill feel betrayed#if i made this post a day ago i would have been like#swearing and going on a rampage#but my lovely friends calmed me down <3#reblog if you can lovelies <33

I appreciate you trying to lay out your reasoning, hard to come by among pm apologists post-7.25. That said i'll have to refute your points, starting with the topic of that hankyoreh article. You say its legitimacy is questionable because it was edited to exclude the word 'fired' and i must ask, have you actually read it? Mtl works wonders these days, it shouldn't be too hard.
The title is literally 'another female [artist] in game industry gets fired... feminist verification illegal'. The contents offer an informed history of misogynistic cases just like vellmori's when people were unjustly fired owing to incel tantrums, quote kjh's notice blaming vellmori for her conduct, and interview vellmori directly. The part that was edited? Vellmori's words, that she told hankyoreh she 'was informed of a termination of contract by phone at 11pm the night of the 25th (from the company)', to exclude 'termination of contract'. The same phrase is still all over the article, any edit made is semantics at most and the article as a whole doesn't shy away from stating anything. No facts changed. Kjh still called her in the middle of the night and fired her, posted the notice saying her contract would be terminated due to causing controversy on her sns(like the incels were baying for mere hours ago), and she spoke with the paper the very next day. You don't honestly think she did so because everything was good and dandy with pm, do you?
On 8.3 pm posted their first notice regarding the matter since the fuckening after a week of radio silence, saying they would sue anyone who used the words 'unfair firing' and 'ideology verification'. Do you know what else happened that day? You should, it's in that letter you linked up above. Vellmori met with her employers with a labor attorney she hired, came to an agreement, and put it in writing. You can make a guess at why she'd have hired one to argue her rights, and no, it's not standard fair for employees who want to resign and have no quarrel with the company. Pm made their notice on 6pm that day.
Kjh illegally fired her on the 25th to capitulate to incels frothing that she was a dastardly feminist, faced the backlash from fans, sat twiddling his thumbs until vellmori stood up for herself and set the matter straight on 8.3, and only then threatened to sue the protesting fans because now that the legalities were settled he could argue he hadn't fired her. And that's what you've got to get straight, if nothing elseâ he's not in legal trouble only because vellmori did everything right. And since the guy has the gall to lie through his teeth that there was nothing wrong from the start.. there's a reason near the entire kr fandom dissolved last july, yknow.
As for your 'direct document', it's pm trying to argue they'd win in a legal fight, no more and no less. There're at least three points even i can see they pulled out of their ass, and for the record, they did sue the kgcs and activists, late last year. You know what came out of that? Police dismissed the case because charges were bogus. We had a laugh about it.
And yeah, obviously i can read korean. You're the one relying on your 'secondary sources' who have been distorting facts from day one despite people trying to correct them on it. Calling kgcs an 'incredibly suspicious organization attempting a company takeover', really. Take over what, exactly? You do know that ex-fans formed it after 8.3 because of the aforementioned threat to sue protesting individuals? That they've been going strong as a voice speaking for everyone who doesn't subscribe to incel rhetoric in this hellhole of an industry? Take a look at their account and the things they've accomplished since maybe, they've even got en tls for the major stuff for your benefit.
It'd be nice if any of this gave you room for thought.
It's been a while since i got one of these. @iamsandwitch Hey, go on. Try to tell me exactly what those company documents are if you have any idea what you're talking about, random project moon defender in my comments. If you want to say you're combating misinfo make like it, do a little research, back your claim with some facts. Don't go spreading any kind of fake news just because it allows you to believe you beloved gacha game is made by the nicest people around who can do no wrong.

Happy tdov to fat trans people. đłïžââ§ïž Biggest thing that helped me as a trans kid was seeing older fat trans people. There were a lot of really irritating "advice" posts going around early in my time on the internet with a lot of misinformation in them, but one that I constantly saw (in addition to people claiming you should wear your pants rediculously low or only wear button ups) were posts saying you had to lose weight to transition. Can confidently confirm that is completely untrue. đ
#seal.txt#tdov#that 'sky and mike' image of the two old trans dudes hugging was one that I had saved to my phone as a trans teen#and i would look at it sometimes and just wonder how they had made it#idk its just nice knowing we live that long and its not a requirement to be skinnyin order to be respected and loved and get old#some of the old 'advice' posts i saw were really completely bizarre and a lot of them stick with me to this day in insecurities#this would have been 2016 ish tumblr so i know not that long ago but i would have been around 13 for reference#weird that i remember so many of the things i read back then. i could probably fill a post with things i was misinformed on due to Tumblr#specifically tumblrs run by people that i didnt really have the knowledge or awareness to understand probably didnt have my best interests#like 'trans rights ' blogs i would follow and not notice until much later were quite the opposite#this is the consequence of viewing social media before i knew all the secret codewords and my brain was much less developed than it is now

juvie buddies
#alek art#td duncan#td mal#total drama#total drama all stars#(if i want to get technical)#2024#duncan is around 15 here... mal is around 16#ive thought really hard about them these past few days . in my brain they actually knew each other and canon is different#duncan and mike got along really well. in juvie mal refused to speak to anyone about anything and would fight as many people as he could .#he wanted to stay in there and far away from home . they get roomed together and duncan is the first person who mal can talk to . he isnt#scared of him . he relates to him a lot . like -> wow we both act out for attention and people think we are terrible because of it#duncan being a mentally ill teenager seeing mal an also very mentally ill teenager thought 'i can fix him' . mike and duncan speak too here#i cant really see anyone else fronting besides those two . their brain was on lockdown and mike wanted out so bad . i see manitoba as a#gatekeeper so hed handle some sessions with their psych. i want to say they (duncan and mike) get moved to a psyche ward just because#i have more knowledge on being in one and how it goes ... but yeah i like duncan mal a lot . this art isnt ship whatsoever though đ i dont#see them as a couple their dynamic is just better as friends imo#but anyways in all stars they obviously recognize each other but have an unspoken agreement not to say anything abt it#duncan is a known criminal but mike isnt like that . mike hadnt even told zoey about that part of his life . so duncan wanted to respect his#privacy -> then mal starts hurting people and he has to step in . mal isnt a good person by any means but i dont think he was that bad in#juvie . so duncan had to come to terms that his friend wasnt the same person he was years ago (in all stars duncan is ~18 and i think mike#is almost 20... so it had been a while since they last talked)#them getting each other like no other and being in pain because they couldnt really speak . i see them having a conversation still in moon#madness abt their past and history . god i just think abt them and their wasted potential wdym mike and duncan were in juvie together#duncan was in for trespassing or destruction of private property or something really dumb . mal fought his parent(s) and got in for assault#mal was already in when duncan was placed . and duncan was let out early on good behavior + his parents (dad) mostly did it to teach him a#lesson . wrong of them or otherwise . so mal was just kinda stuck there until they realized he was actually not right in the head . think he#knew abt their DID but was only diagnosed in juvie and had to go from there . tbh he shouldve been tried as an adult but td logic . doesnt#matter dw guys . mike gets the 'was put on random meds that made him go braindead' treatment bc that was me . post mental hospital abilify#had me messed up
