Death anniversary
Dick and Barbara’s young son doesn’t like when his father is sad
Dick and Barbara’s 6-year-old son finds Barbara in the kitchen. He walks in,climbing on the high-top stool watching her for a moment before speaking
Nathan Grayson: what’s wrong with Daddy?
Barbara: nothing sweetie. Why?
Nathan: something is wrong- he’s not himself. Daddy always wakes me up with smiles and saying happy things, he scoops me up out of bed and spins me around. Sometimes we practice doing flips. This morning he came into my room and crawled in bed and cuddled me without saying anything. Then when we got out of bed he ordered breakfast from DoorDash instead of making Grayson Sunday breakfast like he always does
Barbara smiled at her 6-year-old. He was wise beyond his years. Inheriting the ability to read people’s body language from both his parents. She glanced out at the French glass doors that lead from the kitchen to the backyard, Dick sat alone on the white porch swing staring at the morning sun.
Barbara: Daddy…..today is a hard day for Daddy. Remember the conversationyou two had when he taught you about biological and adopted? How both loves are equal but what the words mean.
Nathan: yes. Daddy had a biological mommy and daddy who died when he was a kid a little older then me. But that doesn't mean Grampie Bruce and Grandfather Alfred aren't my real grandpas. You and Daddy are my biological though. Daddy’s brothers are all adopted but my sister is biological.
Barbara: correct. Well today is the anniversary of the day Daddy’s biological parents died. It happened a long time ago but its still a hard day for him, mommy has known your dad a long time and it's always a day where he is quieter
Nathan nodded, thinking for a moment: how can we help him feel better?
Barbara smiled: well. There isn't much we can do. Sometimes you just need some time to be sad. Especially when it's something like this. Sadness.…..in some forms is a good thing because when you're so sad that you hurt it means the memories of the good times you had together are still there
Nathan: but I don't like daddy being sad. What do you normally do on this day?
Barbara: I give him extra Love. I’ll tell you what, we will call grandfather Alfred and get one of his cookie recipes
Nathan: he likes Oatmeal rasin
Barbara nodded, grabbing her phone: okay so we will make those. All of us will stay in our comfy clothes all day and we will all cuddle up as a family in mommy and daddy’s bed and watch movies all day. Do you think that will make him happy?
Nathan: yes! He loves doing that
Barbara grinned, reaching over and ruffling the boys dark hair: so do I
Nathan: mom?
Barbara: Yes sweetie?
Nathan: please don't ever leave me like daddys parents. I know I’m not as strong as a kid as he was. I wouldn’t know what to do if I didn’t have you or him.
He sniffled seeing as he was on the verge of tears. Barbara walked around the counter. Picking up her son and hugging him tightly
Barbara whispered in his ear: oh my sweet boy. I promise me and your father will do everything in our power to make sure that never happens to either of us.
Nathan pulled back to look at his moms face: That’s not a promise that it won’t happen though
Barbara let out a breath, brushing her sons hair to the side with her fingers: baby, I can’t make that promise to you because we never know what may happen but like I said we will do everything in our power to make sure it doesn’t. Somebody will always be here for you and your sister. Unlike daddy you also have lots of aunts and uncles who love you. You have Grandpa Gordon, Grampie Bruce and Grandfather Alfred.
She reminded
Nathan smiled : there’s lots of people who love me
Barbara nodded: when your dad’s parents first died he didn’t have any of that. He was alone
Nathan looked down sadly : Poor Daddy. Mommy we should get started on those cookies
She grinned: let’s do it!

So my husband and one of our close friends both door dash for extra cash and for a living. (Husband for extra cash, friend for a living)
And they’re having an ideological argument. Because my husband cares about making sure people’s food is right, and the other doesn’t. They both hate the fact no one tips anymore, but the friend has accepted it.
And just. I’m a little fed up with both of them just the language my husband uses sometimes but I never mind giving him a space to rant. However the friend is fucking ridiculous. They’re being paid for a service, and yeah it may not be a lot, but at least do it right. The friend considers the people who order doordash “are not real people” and always says using food delivery apps rot your brain.
My husband’s main complaint rn is that food workers aren’t giving him the food right/in a timely manner/or without being rude as shit (one threw a drink at him when he handed it back and asked for the right one that the customer ordered)
People should tip when able but are not obligated to, but food service workers are paid so they should perform their fucking duties. None of this quiet quitting shit that’s hurting the people relying on services. Either go on strike/quit or take some damn pride in your work for gods sake.
It’s ableist as hell to shit on people who use food delivery apps, and classist to be upset about tips (unless you are a waitress that get’s paid less than minimum wage an hour).
This whole rant probably comes off conservative and against the working class, but that’s not how it’s supposed to come off. I’m pro-treating everyone like a human and pro-having some goddamn sense about the world. You can’t make change by shitting on each other. You need to be kind to people, and they will be kind to you. Let them be the unkind ones first. But always try to leave the world a little brighter for Persephone’s Sake.

SEVENTEEN- REACTION: THEIR S/O GETS INJURED (PT. 1)
written for the lovely @honeyylin
again, thank u for being my first request, I will love u eternally (:
I might do the other version still, idk yet!!! but I hope this is satisfactory!!!
(also shout out to my phone for autocorrecting “finally” to “fistula” I hate it here lol)
tw: food, injury
SEUNGCHEOL
• Homeboy would do his damn best to stay focused on whatever task at hand!!!
• he knows you’re a responsible person and you reassured him on the phone that you’re completely fine, but he’s still got the jitters
• but after he zones out for the third time in a row, Jihoon kicks him out of the studio and tells him to go home
• “you’ll do better there, hyung.”
• “But… the songs-“
• “you’re not exactly contributing right now. go home.”
• and so he does, fidgeting the whole way back
• his anxiety is truly at a peak as he reaches the apartment door, practically chewing through his lip as he fumbles with the keys
• he calls your name the second the door swings open
• “y/n?”
• your head pops up from the couch, tired but grinning wildly. “Cheol!”
• the next thing you know he’s wrapping you in a hug, tension finally leaving him
• “I thought you were at the studio.” You frown when he finally moves away.
• “Jihoon made me leave.” He pouts, sitting down on the floor, eyes even with your leg, which is propped up on a chair. “I was too… out of it?”
• “Aw. I’m really okay, Cheol.” You assure again, reaching down to grab his hand, giving it a squeeze.
• “I know, I know. Just… worried.”
• It’s very clear he’s trying not to make a fuss and ask a million questions about the state of your existence, so you pat the couch next to you.
• “C’mon, we’ve got the day off now. Do you wanna finish the show?”
• His face reluctantly breaks into a grin, hopping up to join you on the couch
• and both of you forget about the pains for a little while as you lose yourself in the screen
• it’s peaceful and warm, and finally, you both get a chance to slow down
• maybe you should get injured more often (/j)
JEONGHAN
• he trusts that you’re completely fine, but he does not trust that you won’t somehow hurt yourself again
• he will babyproof the house for the next few days
• “nope, you’re not allowed to chop vegetables. give me the celery.”
• “hey! let me get that, idiot, you’re hurt.”
• “I don’t care. If you want the cat then text me and I’ll get her for you.”
• just generally being a nuisance, you know how it is
• but still, in his babyproofing he does make sure you take your pain meds on time, setting a little alarm on his phone so he can wake you up with a glass of water and your pills
• he also doordashes you your favorite food without announcing like he just says “Steve is on his way with food” and you have to just ponder who Steve is until some guy knocks on your door
• “he paid me extra to say that you’re the love of his life, so…”
• “let’s not and say we did.”
• he always makes sure to order something sweet too (:
• but yeah he’s doing work around the house and forcing you to stay in bed
• tbh it’s like having a very bossy butler lol
• but hey, at least he’s actually doing his own laundry for once!
JOSHUA
• oh my god he drops everything when he gets your text
• it’s literally just “hey josh can I get some help? I hurt myself moving some furniture” and this man goes feral
• you know how someone is so anxious that their brain shuts off and they’re scarily calm??? Joshua.
• he’s at your house in like, five minutes
• and tbh you just wanted him to finish moving the bookshelf so you didn’t have to
• but now he’s gently scolding you while wiping dirt and blood from your leg
• it’s not even that big of a cut but he’s treating it like open heart surgery
• like his hands are so gentle…
• of course he moves the bookshelf after a little more scolding before like,,, making soup like this man would definitely make soup
• like it’s just an annoying cut that’s gonna leave a bruise and this man is making some chicken noodle in the next room over like you’re dying of pneumonia
• it’s some good ass soup tho (:
JUN
• he would not know what to do tbh but he would be excellent company while you waited to heal
• he’d definitely be very panicky but would hide it as best he could!! cuz you’re the top priority!!!
• he’d lurk and when you get up he’d be like “do you need anything? aspirin? food?” and you’re just like “Jun I’m good I just need to go to the bathroom”
• he definitely knows exactly what you like, and does his best to do things like keep your favorite show on, or make you tea.
• (even when you assure him that you’re fine)
• his help is very random and antsy but still excellent lol
• and the fact that he’s constantly here to help really proves how much he cares about you and your health (:
HOSHI
• oh god, this man
• he’d be all over the place
• overreacting and then scolding and then just zoning out and then he falls asleep smh.
• this man would get out a chainsaw and ask which door you stubbed your toe on so he can destroy it lol
• but alas, no chainsaw is around (thank goodness)
• and so Soonyoung just gets to blame everything else while you’re replacing bandages or whatever
• like, he’s going on about how “just because they have safety stickers on ladders doesn’t mean they’re safe!!” and you’ll hold out your hand for gauze and he’d instinctively just grab it and put it in your hand even though he’s on a bit of a rampage
• he also most definitely is the kind to get a stuffed animal for when you’re hurt lol like every time you get sick or injured badly he gets you a bear that says “get well soon” on its stomach or on the heart it holds in its hands and eventually you just have a pile of creatures encouraging you to be healthy
WONWOO
• this man is just. excellent
• he’s caring without being demeaning, and is just so so so helpful
• he comes home and sees your arm bandaged up and just asks what happened
• and you tell him the story and he tries to hide his smile when he hears about your dumb mistake
• but still he’s patient and willing to help!!
• it’s like he could read your mind on what you needed and would just materialize behind you with a drink or an aspirin or something
• and he’d stay in the room with you whenever he could, reading or texting silently
• it was nice having such a caring presence next to you, even if he didn’t chat much
• I mean, the quiet helped you nap more easily too
• and somehow whenever you woke up, he was still there, keeping an eye on you
• if he had to leave for whatever reason he’d gently wake you up to let you know he was headed out and to call him if you need anything
• he makes the healing process peaceful (:
WOOZI
• when he hears the news he’s just. suddenly very very quiet
• like this man is out of it.
• he brushes off the others when they ask what happened, and makes it through the day fairly uneventfully
• when he gets home you almost don’t hear him, only noticing when he shuts the door
• “Jihoon?”
• He beelines straight to you before wrapping you in a huge hug. big tight hug.
• definitely swaying back and forth a little <3
• but you’re just like “woah ok bud what’s up with you”
• and one look at his face says everything
• it’s just been so much: the stress of a comeback, dealing with the managers and the other boys, and then his s/o gets hurt on top of that?
• maybe he needs a break too
• and so you both take one
• I hope you like sleeping lol
• basically you guys take the next few days to recover, just ordering food up and watching shows in silence before falling asleep together on the couch or even the floor once (hey the rug is soft!!!)
• and one day you wake up to find your injury no longer aching
• and the bed is empty next to you
• so you get up and peer down the hallway
• and Jihoon is in the kitchen, playing soft classical music while cutting vegetables
• he notices as you approach, silently offering you a carrot stick
• “I see you’re feeling better too?”
• he nods.
• you both spend the rest of the morning waking up again, cleaning the house and making food, Jihoon’s energy and personality slowly coming back too
• maybe your break wasn’t as much of him taking care of you, but you taking care of each other
• almost as if you’re tied together somehow, your ups and downs mutual
• either way, after that you’re both a lot more aware of the balance and way of recovery you two have
• and you can predict things in advance for next time!

THEIR S/O ON THEIR PERIOD
mmm yeah self explanatory
black reader x bakugou , midoriya , sero
BAKUGOU
….😁
he doesn’t exactly care, I mean he does but if you’re showing no sign of discomfort he will not give a damn - you got it!!! No we do not.
if you have really bad cramps during , he will check up on you before classes , ask how bad it hurts, and strategize ways to get out of training without having to tell aizawa the real reason why
Because he’s not doing it for you.
he understands if you have mood swings , but he only understands.. doesn’t mean he’s gonna be nicer to you…. You’ll probably end up crying in your bed after some stupid arguement
… he’ll apologize to make you happy again
again, he puts on a facad but he truly does care about you.
if you show signs of hunger he would bring extra food for you - or snacks that you like to your dorm before you come back from training
You wanna doordash food? take his card. He does NOT care.
would always make sure you have a heating pad , and if you don’t you beg him to come over and be a personal heating pad
He be “mad” but in all he’s enjoying the comfort and being around you while you try and sleep from his warm hand on your lower stomach.
MIDORIYA
he is gonna pay attention. sweet boy.
if you wake up to your period he will make sure youre as comfortable as ever for the rest of the day
he’s gonna check up on you ALOT. but it’s sweet so you don’t mind it
advil is always in his backup , or any special pain killers that bring you relief
he’d be kinda flushed in the face but if you didn’t want to go to training however didn’t want to tell aizawa why, he would do it for you.
always making sure you have all your cravings met, a heating pad in sight, and a restful night.
Also making sure you stay hydrated so you don’t pass out(idk if other people pass out so if you don’t.. ignore this💀?)
making sure extra sweatpants are in his locker Incase you bleed - and you always know his password to his locker for needs like that
SERO
he’s the person you’d ask to check when you stood up
he’s discreet about it, and quiet.. but if you are so happen to be leaking he subconsciously goes behind your back and wraps his hoodie over your waist while kissing your cheek so it looks like he’s just going to kiss you (if that makes sense)
Always checking up on you throughout classes and checking for any signs of discomfort
Like Midoriya , he’d tell a teacher if you needed to rest but he’s not that flushed about it - he’s more so normal bc he gets it.
Has snacks in his locker, but not specifically just for you… he just has a bunch of food in his locker bc he gets hungry 💀 obviously gives you the code to it if you’re ever craving something
makes you drink water , no matter if he buys it for you or if it’s from his water bottle .. he’s gonna force you.
he can tell when you’re about to start your period because of how sad you get or how moody you start to be …
he reassures you a lot , he knows how bad mood swings can get so he gives you a lot of love so you’re never doubting his love for you.

hi friend , and thank u ! i appreciate it <3 this is a super cute idea and i had a lot of fun writing it ,,,,, im so soft for them i can't . xoxoxoxoxo , starlight
AYO LOOK AT THESE : the smallest bit of smut but overall fluff ! soft feral boys content , come get yall juice
reblogs are always appreciated !!! <3
dream
wouldn’t be planned tbh , you’d been at his place all day and you’re both too tired to drive
you’d start to call an uber and clay would turn your phone over
“you could… stay here, if you want?”
it was a no brainer
of course you’d stay with him
clay would be so excited , smiling through his sleepy haze
he’d finally get up from his computer just to shower you with kisses all over your face
he’d tackle you back onto his bed , his soft , silly kisses turning into lingering, hard kisses
all teeth and tongue and his hands all over you
he’d get one of his legs between yours, shuddering at the way you’d whine into his mouth
his hands would make their way down to your hips
he’d grind your hips down on him , your sleepiness only making you more sensitive
you bet your ass that he’d make you cum just from grinding on his thigh
he lives in a constant state of horny™ even when he’s tired
clay would be so cocky at how he’d made you finish , doing virtually nothing
but he would go so soft at the way you were exhausted after that , yawning and rubbing your eyes
‘baby’ , ‘love’ , ‘pretty girl’
so affectionate
you could’ve fallen asleep just like that but clay makes you get up and change
“baby , you don't want to sleep in your clothes”
“sleep in mine instead”
you would just grumble back at him until he would physically lift you out of bed
clay would help you out of your clothes
he’d put you in his sweats and a giant dream hoodie
just incase sap walked in for some reason
doesn't want him seeing any of the goods™
he’d carry you to the bathroom and find an extra toothbrush
clay would absolutely try to talk to you while brushing his teeth and the two of you would laugh s o hard at each other trying to talk with mouths full of toothpaste
again , he would pick you up and carry you back to his bed , shutting the door behind the two of you
“don't you want to say goodnight to sap?” “no :)”
the two of you would fall onto his bed and be asleep within 10 minutes , completely tangled in each other
he talks in his sleep
but you snore
so its even
☁ ☁ ☁ ☁ ☁ ☁ ☁ ☁ ☁ ☁ ☁ ☁ ☁ ☁ ☁ ☁ ☁ ☁ ☁ ☁
george
soft george my beloved
he’d probably plan your guys first ‘sleepover’
he would want to make it special , and definitely do something memorable
george would bring it up to you like a week before
he’d practically invite you like it was a birthday party :,)
i can't
he’d make reservations for a nice dinner before and get all dressed up
george would pick you up and hold your hand on the console
he’d open all the doors for you
he'd pull out your c h a i r
yall would definitely be cracking jokes all throughout dinner in the middle of this fancy restaurant
george would ABSOLUTELY knock his silverware off the table at some point
you would have to fight to not spit your drink out , laughing so hard
he’d skip on desert at the restaurant and take you to dairy queen or something
it would be the two of you in your fancy attire , sitting outside some tiny ice cream parlor
looking at eachother like you were the only two people on earth
yall are in L O V E
once you two got home george would carry your overnight bag in
he would change immediately
bc he h8’s fancy clothes
but wanted to dress up for you
after you guys changed into pajamas , you’d stay up talking for hours
he’d tell you stories of him and all the feral boys
you’d tell him stupid things you did as a kid
the two of you would want to make the most of the extended time you had together and stay up until like 2 in the morning
george’s voice would get all low and raspy from talking for so long
you’d fall asleep on the couch together when you physically couldn’t hold your eyes open anymore
george would wake up when the sun started shining through the blinds
he would carry you up to his bed
then promptly fall back asleep with you in his arms
☁ ☁ ☁ ☁ ☁ ☁ ☁ ☁ ☁ ☁ ☁ ☁ ☁ ☁ ☁ ☁ ☁ ☁ ☁ ☁
sapnap
snapmap my love .
this man doesn’t plan shi t
it would be very spur of the moment , the two of you laughing at some joke that he made when he’d grab your hand suddenly v serious
“will you sleep with me tonight?”
he’d look so earnest while asking that and you would BURST into laughter
it would take nick a hot sec to realise what he’d said and once he did . he would simply . disintegrate .
he would be so dramatic about it too
“i was trying to be romantic ! stop laughing at me !”
and you would just sit there , laughing so hard that you couldn’t produce noise anymore , just silent wheezes
you would start to cry and nick would pOUT
you would just nod , literally unable to produce words
but sap would brighten up at that
“so you’ll stay the night?”
once you got control of yourself , the two of you continued on doing what you were doing
it was like a normal day other than the fact that it ,,,, wouldn’t end
you two watched movies and played minecraft all day , being lazy together
you’d doordash dinner or order pizza or something so you didn’t have to leave the house
he’d have to stream and you would just chill , eating pizza in bed
once it became apparent that the stream was gonna last longer than planned , you would quietly come up behind him and drop a kiss on his cheek
he’d grin at you but be confused ???
you’d text him so your voice wouldn’t pop up on stream
‘gonna take a shower / keep myself busy’
he’d text back a single ‘👍🏼’
sapnap texts like a dad and NO ONE can tell me otherwise
you’d shower and get dressed , then wander down to the kitchen trying to find something to do
scavenger hunt™ for cookie ingredients
you’d bake his favorite and surprise him with a warm cookie im s o f t
the SMILE that would cross his face my god
he would feel so loved
he’d mute stream to thank you, putting his hands around your waist and burying his face into your stomach
you k n o w he’d find some way to end stream early after that , wanting to be with you
the two of you would finish off all the cookies , watching scary movies together
he’d hold you when you jump at all the spooky shit
you’d do the same for him bc sap is baby
chat . i'm kinda scared . lowkey .
you were both half asleep by the time you made your way back up to his room
you’d be lights out the minute your head hit the pillows
and he’d be big spoon
☁ ☁ ☁ ☁ ☁ ☁ ☁ ☁ ☁ ☁ ☁ ☁ ☁ ☁ ☁ ☁ ☁ ☁ ☁ ☁
karl
karl would probably ask you that day , texting you before you’d even come over to ask if you would stay the night
you two had technically slept over before , but never at karl’s place (usually pulling all nighters with the feral boys on stream or with the beast crew)
you can not tell me . that karl . would not build a fort . with you .
and he would 100% go all out with it
he’d get lights to string up on the inside (the twinkle ones for sure)
he would get a fuckton of pillows and the softest blankets he can find and pile them in
karl would essentially make a nest for the two of you
you’d spend the first hour alone sharing soft kisses and cuddling so close that you weren't sure where you ended and karl began
he’d hold you , letting you lay on his chest and listen to his heartbeat
you’d talk about everything and nothing at all , just wanting to hear each other’s voices
until someone’s stomach growled
he’d laugh until he couldn't breathe
you had tears rolling down your face , your stomach hurting from the giggles
he’d either take you to get food before or doordash your favorite
because neither of you can cook blESS
you’d pick out cute , matching pajamas for your first official night together
but
he’d end up giving you his clothes to sleep in
because he likes you wearing his stuff
and it's more comfortable than your fancy pajamas
he’d cover his eyes and face a blanket/wall while you were changing
the only time either of you would leave the fort would be for more snacks or to go to the bathroom
karl would bring his laptop in and turn in a movie as you two were settling in for the night
(some super dumb kids movie)
(my brain immediately went to the lorax)
(i’ll see myself out)
and he’d stay awake until you fell asleep, your face buried into his t-shirt
it made his heart so full that you felt safe enough to fall asleep with him
he’d play with your hair and trace over your features as soft as possible
because you're just so beautiful when you’re asleep ??
karl murmurs how much he loves you , everything that he loves about you while he knows you can't hear it
he’d drift off with you still in his arms, his lips pressed to the top of your head in a sweet, gentle kiss
and the two of you would stay like that the entire night , keeping each other warm
im so soft for him
can u tell
karl jacobs my love

quackity
listen
everyone writes big q as a stupid dumb dummy
and while he can be that at some times
this man would be so fucking thoughtful ??? when it came to his girl ?????
you literally can't tell me otherwise .
much like gogy he would plan something special
but like
he can COOK yall
he’d make you a nice ass dinner
and set up a picnic in the backyard
he’d light candles and make it all fancy
literally it would be a scene out of a movie
once you finished eating dinner the two of you would watch the sunset
he’d play guitar and sING FOR YOU
you’d stay outside soaking in the heat even after the sun had gone down
stargazing for as long as you could
alex would put his arm around you and have you lay on his chest
you’d listen to his heartbeat while you pointed out the big dipper
he’d make up his own constellations aljidhkuvgfhadj
you two would only go inside because you were being eaten alive by mosquitos
one of you would play music off your phone and yall would slow dance in the kitchen
he would repeatedly tell you how much he loved you , pressing tender kisses to your neck , your jaw
until a fucking ad would play
and alex would just lose his shit
he would laugh so hard he’d ipad kid cough
then you would simply ascend
the two of you would be laying on the kitchen floor absolutely D Y I N G of laughter
you’d stay there for a while , trying to recover
by the time you did , your ribs were sore from all the giggles
alex would pick you up and throw you over his shoulder , walking you up to bed
he’d suplex you onto the mattress
the two of you are children around each other tbh
that would lead to a wrestling match
until you’d found your way onto his lap , pinning him by his wrists
w h e w
the way that man would kiss you after that ? bye im gone
lets just say by the time he was finished you would both be exhausted
he’d tell you how pretty you were , how good you did
the two of you would fall asleep with tangled limbs , half kissing

David x Patrick - Angst-fest with lots of cuddles and h/c reunion fic.
Summary - Being stuck in the Milwaukee airport is bad enough. Then David realizes that the man who broke his heart is sitting right next to him. After a rom-com worthy reunion, David decides he’s not going to walk away again.
Chapter 10 (spoiler - Stevie shows up). A03.
Patrick really does make David keep his arms around him there in the booth at the diner for an inordinate amount of time. He knows that David can’t hug his issues away, and it isn’t fair of Patrick to expect him to. Patrick is going to take ownership of this, and do something about it. But even though he knows he has to do it himself, it’s also very scary. And letting himself come to terms with his own revelation is just easier to do with his face in the crook of David’s neck.
They finally separate, and bicker amiably about the check, David sneaking off while Patrick is in the bathroom to order extra muffins to take home and hand over his credit card. Patrick doesn’t much care for the reminder that he’s unemployed, but David does have a point that he’s living in Patrick’s house at the moment – his parents’ house, but still. And it seems to make David feel good to treat Patrick, and if there’s anything Patrick can get behind right now, it’s doing everything he can to make this work.
Unfortunately, when they pull up to the house to the sight of a beat up red sedan with an Ontario license plate, Patrick’s heart sinks.
“Patrick? You said your parents wouldn’t be here until January. They’re very early.”
“That’s not my parents.”
“Well, it’s not Doordash. As much as I’d applaud planning ahead for dinner, they’re unlikely to have driven all the way from Canada. Who’s in your driveway?” David’s voice is rising, and Patrick is entirely too familiar with his agitated-bordering-on-panicked tone.
“David, don’t be upset.” Patrick shuts off the car and turns towards David.
“Mmkay, those words usually come before something that’s going to make me upset.”
They get out of the car but before Patrick even makes it to the front door, it opens and Stevie comes out.
David turns to Patrick, a look of betrayal on his face. “I can’t believe you did this to me,” he hisses.
“Hi to you too,” Stevie says, her voice flat. “And don’t you dare blame Patrick, he didn’t do anything.”
“Well I sure didn’t invite you down here.”
“Right, my presence is unwanted, I get that, believe me,” Stevie says. “But some of us have a job to do-”
“Don’t you dare come at me about work, Stevie, I’m on vacation.”
“And if you had just told me that at the beginning of the week, instead of playing hard to get like a god damned asshole-”
“Okay, that’s enough.” Patrick finds himself next to David, a hand on his shoulder, glaring at Stevie. He can feel David trembling under his palm.
“Yeah, like any of this is my fault,” Stevie mumbles. She’s wearing a familiar flannel over a v-neck t-shirt, but the look on her face is like nothing Patrick has ever seen before. It’s a deep hurt, and when he turns to look at David, he sees it there as well. This has got to stop.
“Could we maybe go inside?” Patrick asks, sliding his hand down David’s body to the small of his back, bringing them closer together. It’s not raining as hard as it was this morning, but the misty drizzle certainly isn’t helping the situation.
David disappears briefly when they get indoors. “How did you even get into the house?” Patrick asks Stevie, still trying to figure out how to manage this situation.
“The spare key was in a fake turtle next to the front door, it wasn’t exactly hard.”
Patrick resolves to have another conversation with his parents about security, although he supposes their approach is slightly better than their previous practice of leaving the key under the mat.
David returns a few moments later with a different black sweater on, the hood pulled up over his head. He looks miserable. Patrick wishes they could go back to the diner and stay there forever, arms around each other and the aroma of pancakes all around them. His instincts in that regard were apparently spot on.
“Tell me why you’re here,” David says to Stevie, a hand on his hip.
Stevie backs up a step into the kitchen, fiddling with a tea towel that says “Livin’ the Dream” on it in flowery aqua script. She looks cornered. Patrick considers encouraging them all to sit down and have a cup of tea first, like a scene from a British novel.
“Rose Motel Group is always evaluating new territories for growing the business,” Stevie says. “Since you declared your interest in the southeast U.S., your father suggested I come down here and check it out.”
“That’s ridiculous, I only talked to him about it a few days ago.”
“It was actually the next territory on our list, after mid-Atlantic coastal, he just moved it up.”
“That’s still ridiculous,” David mutters, looking to Patrick for confirmation. “We hardly do any business in the U.S.”
“We do, we have a dozen motels in upstate New York and New England, and you’d know that if you ever attended the management meetings instead of pretending that your wi-fi has mysteriously gone out. A middle schooler is better at zoom than you are.”
“Zoom meetings give me migraines.”
“That’ll be a real advantage now that you’re working remotely.”
“Is that what this is about? I’m not on the moon, Stevie, I’m just in Florida. It’s hardly going to interfere with my ability to place orders with the same two dozen vendors I’ve been working with for years.”
Patrick finally forces himself to move, stepping in between them. “How about some tea?”
This causes both David and Stevie to freeze and blink at him like he’s lost his mind.
“Go on, go sit down,” Patrick waves them towards the living room.
They take up seats on the opposite ends of the couch, hesitantly facing each other like nervous cats. Patrick never really got to the bottom of what happened between them after his and David’s break-up. He has a feeling that he’s about to find out.
He busies himself making tea, getting the kettle out of the cabinet and filling it with water and searching in the cabinets for the tea bags and sugar. But the living room is only a few feet away, and he can hear the silence stretch until Stevie finally speaks up.
“You look good,” she says to David – and Patrick nearly drops the kettle, he’s so surprised to hear these words come out of Stevie’s mouth at this point.
“Thanks,” David says, sounding oddly flattered. “So do you.”
“When was the last time we saw each other?” Stevie asks. “Last Christmas?”
“The RMG holiday party,” David agrees. “Almost a year ago.”
“How’s Alexis?”
Patrick doesn’t understand how they went from biting each other’s heads off to awkward small talk.
“She’s okay. She needs more clients, but she seems happy enough.”
A pause, and then - “David, if you and Patrick are going to be back together, maybe you and I can-”
“Don’t.” The suddenly bitter tone in David’s voice pulls at Patrick’s heart.
“But-”
“Give it up, Stevie. It’s too late.”
“Why, exactly? Come on, David, I’m the least emotionally mature person I know, after you of course, and even I can see that we don’t need to do this anymore.”
“What, I’m just supposed to ask you to forgive me and we’d be friends again, just like that?”
“You could try it. And maybe tell me why you cut me off in the first place.”
“It’s better if we just stick to business.” David stands up and starts pacing. There’s not much space in the living room, between the couch and the armchair and the coffee table. It cramps his style. “That was going fine, at least until you showed up here.”
“Fine? How is it fine, that we went from being best friends-” Stevie’s voice catches, “to <i>colleagues</i> who only talk when Mr. Rose needs me to get vendor information from you? How is that fine?”
“I don’t know how this is going to end up,” David says, waving his hands. “I’ll probably fuck it up again somehow. No matter how hard I try, that’s always what happens. I don’t want to, I really don’t want to, but I’m very familiar with my life, Stevie. I ruin everything.”
Patrick realizes with a pang that David is talking about the two of them.
“And when I do,” David goes on, “Patrick’s still going to need you. I’m not taking that away from him. I gave you to him, and it’s going to stay that way.”
“What the fuck are you talking about?” Stevie says, her voice going even quieter. In Patrick’s experience, this indicates that she is truly furious. “You can’t <i>give</i> me to someone.”
“I had Alexis. Patrick didn’t have anyone. He even lost the store. He needed you more than I did. I couldn’t take you away from him.”
“Did it never occur to you,” Stevie says, snapping out each word, “that I might want a say in the matter? That I might not want to lose either of you? That maybe, I don’t know, I could stay friends with you both?”
“That’s not how it works in a break-up, and you know it. Everyone chooses sides. I needed you to choose Patrick.”
“So you ditched our friendship and stopped returning my calls so I would take Patrick’s side?”
“I wasn’t exactly thinking straight at the time!” David yells, and Patrick feels like his heart beats out of his chest with pain as David deflates, his head in his hands. “I just needed you to be there for him,” he says softly.
“You really are a fuck-up, David Rose,” Stevie says, her voice calmer. “But I’m going to be the bigger person here, and not let you fuck this up any more.”
Stevie stands up and moves over to David, who reluctantly takes his hands away from his face to watch her approach. As he looks around, David catches Patrick watching them. His eyes grow wide as he realizes that their conversation has been overheard, and he grabs Stevie’s arm, rapidly ushering her out the front door.
“What the hell, David?” Stevie protests, but she goes along with him.
Patrick watches through the kitchen window, unable to drag his eyes away. David and Stevie are standing near the end of the driveway, and he can see David’s hands waving, and Stevie shaking her head at him. Then Stevie drags David into a hug, holding him tight as he squirms before accepting it. David’s head finally drops onto her shoulder, and they stay that way for a long moment. When they pull apart, Stevie punches him – fondly? – on the chest, then gets into her car and drives away.
Patrick goes outside, joining David at the end of the driveway as they watch Stevie’s car go around the corner.
“She has an appointment at a motel,” David says. “She’ll be back in time for dinner. She told me to order Thai, and get both kinds of satays.” David seems almost stunned at how he’s able to talk about Stevie like this now.
Patrick puts a hand on David’s shoulder. “You okay?”
David shakes himself, looking skyward and then back off in the direction of the road. “A little… fizzy.”
It’s not a word Patrick’s heard David use before to describe his state, but Patrick thinks he gets it.
“Too much emotion?”
David glares a little at Patrick.
“I’m going to make it worse,” Patrick says, biting back a smile as David’s glare intensifies.
“I really don’t need that right now.” David takes Patrick’s hand from his shoulder and holds it firmly, walking them back into the house. This time Patrick actually closes the door behind them, and then turns to David, who is fidgeting with the sleeves of his sweater, pulling them down over his fingers.
“David.” Patrick catches his gaze. “It takes two people to tank a relationship.”
“Sure.”
“No, really – what happened between us was my fault, too. You know that. You can’t take it all on yourself. And it’s not all on you to make it work this time, either.”
David purses his lips, looking down at the floor.
“Hey.” Patrick moves closer, his hands squeezing David’s shoulders. “I’m in this, too. As hard as you’re going to try not to fuck this up, I’ll be right there with you, okay? This is important to me, too. Really important.”
David nods several times in succession.
“And there’s one more thing.”
David glances at him. “What?”
“I don’t agree with your methods, but…” His mind flashes back to those days and weeks after their break-up, when it hurt just to breathe, when he was so lost and miserable, save for a friend who showed up with whiskey and ice cream and helped him through it.
“But what?”
“You gave me Stevie,” Patrick says, gratitude in his voice. After Patrick broke David’s heart, David gave up his best friend because he still cared about Patrick and didn’t want him to be alone. <i>That’s not nothing,</i> he hears in David’s voice.
“Are you going to lecture me about that too?”
“No. I should, but – nope.”
David looks at him, his gaze open and disbelieving.
“And probably Stevie would say she can take care of herself on this point.”
A smile creeps into David’s cheek. “Hmmph.”
“Instead,” Patrick pushes David up against the kitchen island and cups his face in his hands, “I’m just going to say one thing.”
“What’s that?” David asks, his eyes alight.
“I love you, too.”

Today gin messaged nim just in the spirit of keeping your friends close but your enemies closer I think. Hes really jealous of them even tho I would never go back to being friends with nim because they betrayed me by doing that to mady (when they messaged maggie trying to get mady kicked out of her place because she had gotten back together with Darius and nim thought Darius was bad for mady). I'm hoping this doesnt mean that we see them somewhere and I have to be nice to them because with my autism I think they can easily draw me in and manipulate me. I'm with gin now so I wont fall prey to their charm, but I just know that my emotions are easily played with and I could easily start to feel guilty for ending the friendship if they said certain things. And if I look like I feel guilty for the friendship ending in front of gin then he could think that i miss nim even tho I dont. Sometimes I just feel guilty for relationships ending even if I don't miss the person; I just tend to feel guilty for possibly hurting them in general.
Also I really just wanna not show up to work today and then get another job but when I think logically I remember that it'd be bad because I get to work so many overnights where I'm asleep that itd be way better for me to keep this job so that I'm doing less work and still getting paid for 40 hours. Although just doordashing would be amazing. I haven't done it yet at all so I think I need to start doordashing first before I decide anything like that. I did message my boss andrea and asked if I could pick up an extra overnight shift every week because gin is about to turn 21 and I wanna celebrate!
Lately I've been wanting to have date nights and do fun stuff with gin all the time (but I've also been spending my money a lot on going to get fast food by myself). Last night we drove around and looked at cool houses all over Omaha so that we could get ideas for our own future house together and then on another date we're gunna create what our dream house would look like on a painting together! Then we went to the imaginarium and I got a new w33d container that is shaped like vader, its sick! Then we went to benson and checked out the murals before we grabbed little Cesar's and ate it by the pond at benson park. It was fun af.
Also gins birthday is october 30th so I'm really really excited to plan a party for him! I booked a room at the ameristar casino in council bluff for his b. Day and it's got a whirlpool tub in the fucking room!! I just really wanted his 21st birthday to be the coolest thing ever ya know? I told him to save up his only fans money so that he can use it at the casino even tho he doesnt know that that is what we're doing he just thinks he needs extra money for his birthday. I'll get alc and a couple delta 10 disposables for that night so he can get lit and it should be fun af!! We're gunna try to go to a few bars too so that he can dance around and feel like the bad bitch that he is! I wish it were this weekend honestly!
I am spending way too much money tho. I wanna spend money like me and gin are both making it, when it's actually just me making money right now while hes waiting for disability to be approved. Spending money on others just makes me feel so good tho! Like I am so pumped for gins birthday and getting my mom a present too!

Restaurants Fought for Covid Survival, With Some Tech Helpers The past year has crushed independent restaurants across the country and brought a reality to their doors: Many were unprepared for a digital world. Unlike other small retailers, restaurateurs could keep the tech low, with basic websites and maybe Instagram accounts with tantalizing, well-lit photos of their food. For the past decade, Krystle Mobayeni had been trying to convince them that they needed more. Ms. Mobayeni, a first-generation Iranian-American, started her company, BentoBox, in 2013 as a side job. She wanted to use her graphic design skills to help restaurants build more robust websites with e-commerce abilities. But it was a hard sell. For many, she said, her services were a “nice to have,” not a necessity. Until 2020. The pandemic sent chefs and owners flocking to BentoBox, as they suddenly needed to add to-go ordering, delivery scheduling, gift card sales and more to their websites. Before the pandemic the company, based in New York City, had about 4,800 clients, including the high-profile Manhattan restaurant Gramercy Tavern; today it has more than 7,000 restaurants onboard and recently received a $28.8 million investment led by Goldman Sachs. “I feel like our company was built for this moment,” Ms. Mobayeni said. The moment opened a well of opportunity for companies like BentoBox that are determined to help restaurants survive. Dozens of companies have either started or scaled up sharply as they found their services in urgent demand. Meanwhile, investors and venture capitalists have been sourcing deals in the “restaurant tech” sector — particularly seeking companies that bring the big chains’ advantages to independent restaurants. “A lot of what’s happening is reminiscent of what we’ve seen in the broader retail sector in the past decade,” said R.J. Hottovy, a restaurant industry analyst and an investor at Aaron Allen & Associates. “Covid accelerated the transformation quite a bit. This is a once-in-a-lifetime chance to redefine the experience.” Part of what Ms. Mobayeni offers restaurants is a one-stop shop and the ability to own their customer data. Many restaurants rely on third-party vendors, such as DoorDash or UberEats, to handle delivery. But those companies charge significant fees and retain customers’ data because the transactions go through their websites. That’s not such a big deal when delivery is 20 percent of a restaurant’s income stream, but it’s a game-changer when delivery becomes 100 percent of income — and you can’t contact any of your customers. “Restaurants realized they had to think of themselves as larger businesses and brands,” said Camilla Marcus, co-founder of TechTable, which connects the hospitality and tech industries. “You have to expand into other things: e-commerce, delivery, products. You have to think outside the four walls.” Helping restaurants deepen relationships with customers is where Sam Bernstein saw an opportunity. Before the pandemic he ran a tech start-up that connected students to housing, similar to Airbnb; when universities sent students home last spring, his revenue fell to zero. He went to his board of directors and offered to return what investment was left and close down. Instead the board suggested he regroup with a smaller team and new vision. “It was an existential crisis, as you can imagine,” he said. Mr. Bernstein laid off all but 10 employees and took them for a brainstorming retreat. They considered dozens of business models, looking for the right problem to solve. The more they discussed options, the more the members of the team realized they were all interested in food and hospitality and wanted to help restaurants. They hit upon the idea for a site that would allow customers to “subscribe” to their favorite restaurants. The new firm, Table22, would help chefs develop and market subscriptions for monthly meal kits and wine clubs, for example, and then manage the sales, recurring billing, scheduling, data analytics and more. In exchange, Table22 takes a percentage of each transaction. Table22, which is based in New York, went live with its first restaurant in May. Since then, it has grown to more than 150 restaurants in 50 cities. Late last year, the company received about $7 million from investors, who include David Barber, owner of Blue Hill farm and restaurants. Shelby Allison signed up her Chicago bar, Lost Lake, for the service on a cold email from Table22. She was hesitant at first, planning to listen just long enough to learn how to create a cocktail subscription service herself. “We get lots and lots of calls from these tech companies trying to help — or prey upon — us struggling businesses,” she said. Today in Business Updated April 16, 2021, 1:30 p.m. ET But she was impressed by the low service fee and the fact that Table22 shared customer data. She started the service in October, hoping for 30 sign-ups; 100 people joined. Ms. Allison now has 300 subscribers and five employees working on the make-at-home cocktail boxes. “This will 100 percent stay in the future,” she said. “I love this program. I thought it might cannibalize my to-go business, but it hasn’t at all.” Ping Ho considered signing up with Table22 to host the wine and meat clubs she offers at her Detroit restaurant and butcher shop, Marrow, and wine bar, the Royce. She decided against it, however, because her existing subscription platform, Zoho, gave her the essential tools. “It’s a bit more work, but there’s more agency,” she said. But because her website was mostly informational, she realized she did need help offering online ordering and a delivery system for the butcher shop. So Ms. Ho turned to Mercato, which enables e-commerce for independent grocers. In a bit of fortuitous timing, she had signed up a month before the pandemic struck. When stay-at-home orders were issued, she was able to quickly begin offering grocery items, such as milk and eggs, in addition to meats. Her sales jumped “tremendously” she said, although they have flattened out in recent months. Still, Ms. Ho intends to maintain the service. Mercato began in 2015, but 2020 was its year. In February 2020, the service had 400 stores across 20 states; it quickly ramped up to more than 1,000 stores in 45 states. It continues to grow and has added some big-name clients, including the Ferry Building Marketplace on San Francisco’s Embarcadero, with dozens of merchants. “We’re trying to give independent grocers a sustainable competitive advantage,” said Bobby Brannigan, founder and chief executive of the company, which is based in San Diego. It’s a mission that he has been training for all his life. Mr. Brannigan’s family owns a grocery store in the Dyker Heights area of Brooklyn, where he started working when he was 8, stocking shelves and delivering groceries. “It’s ironic that I’m back to doing what I was doing as a kid in Brooklyn,” he said. Last March and April, Mercato brought on hundreds of new grocers each week — clients that weren’t used to having online orders or weren’t used to the sudden volume of orders. Some stores that were accustomed to 10 orders in a day were flooded with hundreds, Mr. Brannigan said. Thankfully, his dad already had him build tools into the system that would allow grocers to limit the pace of orders and schedule them. Mr. Brannigan is also adding more data analytics to help his clients better understand what their customers want. They can now see what was bought and what customers searched for. “You’re amassing a valuable treasure chest of data that lets you sell the products they want today and that they want tomorrow,” he said. Of course, not all solutions are tech-centric; sometimes, it’s just a grass-roots community of chefs helping chefs. Alison Cayne, for example, has been giving free advice to chefs looking to create packaged goods, like her line of Haven’s Kitchen sauces. Having that extra revenue stream was critical when she shuttered her Manhattan restaurant and cooking school last spring, and she wants others to have the same options. “This is all very much from my perspective, not the supercapitalized, venture capital-backed, cool-kids business,” she said. “I just want to help them take a brick-and-mortar business and develop a product and build a brand that makes sense and is sustainable.” In Detroit, the grocer Raphael Wright and the chefs Ederique Goudia and Jermond Booze developed a “diabolical plan,” as Mr. Wright called it, to offer a weekly meal kit cooked by Black chefs during Black History Month. “Black food businesses are hurting in the city, so we thought, what if we created this meal box in a way that celebrates Black food and Black contributions to American cuisine?” Mr. Wright said. They named the project Taste the Diaspora Detroit and brought together Black chefs and farmers to create the weekly dishes — like gumbo z’herbes and black-eyed pea masala. The three organized all of the e-commerce and scheduling, which allowed chefs to participate even if they weren’t tech-savvy, and created the packaging and inserts that told the history of the meal. They topped it off with a paired Spotify playlist. “Being a part of this project woke everyone up and made them think they have a little hope they can push through,” Mr. Wright said. They hope to reprise the service for Juneteenth and are currently talking to funders to support the effort. Source link Orbem News #Covid #Fought #Helpers #Restaurants #Survival #Tech
