Dick: Babs and I took Haley to a local park for a walk. It’s usually nice, she runs freely in a field. There’s a playground nearby. Sometimes kids come over to see her. Haley likes the socializing and it gives an opportunity for me to teach the future generation that although Haley appears to have a limitation she isn’t actually limited at all and can do anything a 4 legged dog can do. Open their eyes to people can look different but be no different then them ya know
Jason: I’m sure Barb thinks that’s adorable
Dick: she does…anyway this time when we went there was a little girl petting Haley. Her mom was with her, I was chatting being friendly. Babs was in the restroom . The woman I picked up on was hitting on me. She went as far as asking me to dinner. I was turning her down and explaining I was a taken man when Babs walked back up. The little girl goes “Mommy look! They’re like Princess Ariel and Prince Eric. He even has a dog like Prince Eric does.!” Poor little girl mom snatched her wrist and said “Sweetie any red head and dark haired man can look like princess Ariel and Prince Eric.” Then walked away
Jason: Gesh talk about bitter
Dick: Right! And totally not true. Not any red head can look like Ariel. Sure Babs does but not every red headed female does

Barbara coming to meet Dick at a restaurant for lunch. She walks in and goes to the hostess stand where 3 waitresses are talking
Barbara: excuse me I’m here to meet someone
Waitress #1: I’ll be right with you
Waitress #2: He’s so gorgeous-best looking man I have ever seen!!
Waitress #3 : too bad he said table for 2. He told me he’s waiting for the other person to arrive
Waitress #1: Well it could be a sibling or a colleague, perhaps his parent
Waitress #2: you should write your number on his receipt! If you don’t I will
Barbara: Ladies I need to sit….(notices who they are looking at) actually I don’t need your help I see him. Continue.
Barbara marches straight in the females lines of vision to Dick. As soon as he sees her he stands, pulling the chair out for her. He plants a kiss on her lips before pushing her chair back in , then taking his own seat
Dick: I was wondering where you were
Barbara: well I was waiting forever-those waitresses are oogling at you
Dick: I noticed….but ya know she took our drink order 15 minutes ago and still hasn’t brought our waters
Barbara: and here she was saying she wanted to give you her number
Dick: she’ll be lucky to get a tip at this point

Barbara: I grew him inside me for 9 months…..birthed him with no pain meds. Only for him to look and act exactly like his father.
Baby Grayson: Daddy did you know the adult brain weighs 3lbs. It’s about 60% fat and 40% water, protein and carbohydrates.
Barbara: Ah there I am

When Barbara has Dick Grayson’s baby- they aren't a couple. Yet they're a couple who has a baby together. And there's no way Barbara wants them to become a couple just because they have a baby.
The solution? Live together as friends while raising the baby they created
Plan to update again soon, next chapter is halfway done

Dick’s phone keeps ringing while this is happening
Dick pulls away from their kiss and looks at his watch to see that it is Damian
Dick: I gotta answer this
Barbara: now! No Babe, ignore it if he’s in trouble he can call one of your brothers, or Bruce or hell John Kent. But I need you and look at our position right now
Dick: Babs if I don’t answer him he will assume the worse and start a manhunt to track me down and walk in on us. Best to end it now
Barbara: you’re right. Answer it
Dick: hey little D, you good?
Damian; I’m fine I just haven’t seen you on fathers radar tracking system and wanted to make sure you are okay
Dick; I’m fine. It’s my night off
Damian: Oh….so you’re home? In bed?
Dick: listen little brother, I’m a little……tied up at the moment . With things that Vigilant works keeps me from doing. Can I get back to you in the morning ?
Damian: yes, my question has been answered
Hangs up the phone
Barbara: tied up. Really?
Dick: there were no lies in what I told him.
Barbara: oh shut up and kiss me

16 year old Dick Grayson: Bruce can I talk to you about something
Bruce : ummm sure. This vigilante related?
Dick: no but ugh- look I know you’re not my Dad. And I will forever be grateful that you have never tried to be that role but I kinda ….
Bruce:need that right now? You need advice on something?
Dick: sorta. It’s about Babs
Bruce: Barbara Gordon? Is it a Batgirl thing?
Dick: no it’s not a batgirl thing. It’s a friendship thing. As you know she’s been my friend basically since I became your ward. Well lately I’m finding my eyes…wondering
Bruce: wondering?
Dick: yeah to her……and her…..then there’s also her- she’s changing. Not personality wise but her body and I just. I try not to look but my eyes get the best of me sometimes. I feel bad cause she’s my friend but like —-
Bruce: are you trying to tell me you’re attracted to Barbara?
Dick: I don’t know if I am or not - I was hoping you could help me with how I feel
Bruce: ummmm AFLRED??!!

Teenaged Dick and Barbara. Keeping each other warm on a Gotham rooftop
Barbara: ya know we can’t keep doing this. It’s risky
Dick: but I love secret cuddle time
Barbara: me too but if we ever got caught…..
Dick: we won’t
Barbara: but what if we do. How could we explain we’re just friends
Dick: simple- we’re just friends who like to cuddle
Barbara; that doesn’t sound believable
Dick; but that’s what it is
Barbara; but nobody would get it. Our friendship is unique

High school aged Dick and Barbara hanging out after school at the Manor
Barbara:you've been off all week, what’s bothering you?
Dick: nothing
Barbara: spill
Dick: *sigh* Abby-
Barbara: your girlfriend of 3 months?
Dick: Yeah…..she’s been on my case about spending too much time….with you.
Barbara: Oh…I- did I over step a boundry at some point? I'm sorry if I did anything to make her uncomfortable
Dick: no you didn't- she just. She thinks you're pretty and didn't like that I was such good friends with you. Doesn't like that I text and call you. Doesn't like that I'm friends and was saying if I wanted to continue dating her I couldn't hang out with you
Barbara: Oh
Dick: So I broke up with her
Barbara: Dick—-why? Because of me, I ruined your relationship
Dick: No! Of course not!! Babs you are the answer! Given the choice between you and anyone the answer will always be you. I can live without Abby in my life I can't live without you in my life
Barbara: Awe Dick…..wait you didn't tell Abby that did you?
Dick: of course not! I told her that I couldn't date someone who didn't trust me

Dick holding up his phone to show a news article
Dick: can you believe this! “Dick Grayson and Barbara Gordon cozy up in the cooler weather as they go on a romantic evening stroll with their 3 leged pet dog”
Jason: isn't that exactly what youre doing?
Dick: well yeah but- okay look at this article “Barbara Gordon and Dick Grayson couldn't keep their hands off each other as they enjoyed a dinner at one of New Yorks finest outdoor restaurants”
Jason:again…..is it a lie?
Dick: Well no - but they need to mind their business. I don't want Babs all over articles for people to gawk at her like she's some sort of piece of meat! She doesn't deserve her private life to be exploited
Jason: You're the adopted ward of Bruce Wayne, She’s the daughter of the police commissioner. You're both good-looking. Sorry but everything about you two screams media tabloid

Death Anniversary part2
While Barbara was on the phone with Alfred Nathan walked to the French doors.
Slowly he opened the door, peering his little head outside to look at his father. Dick was staring absently out in the empty yard, slowly swinging back and forth.
Nathan found it unusual that his father didn’t realize he was there
“Daddy,” the 6-year-old said softly
Dick turned to look at him “Oh hey son” he spoke softly.
Nathan stepped out closing the door “I wanted to say hi” he spoke
Dick looked at him questionably “Hi?”
Nathan shrugged
Dick smiled softly “Come here” he patted the space beside him on the swing
Nathan climbed onto the white swing sitting beside his father
Dick put an arm around his son’s waist and then pulled him into his lap hugging him tightly, he rested his chin on his son's shoulder
“You know I love you so much right?” He whispered
Nathan nodded “Yeah and I love you Dad” he turned his head to look at his father, noticing sadness in his eyes
Nathan touched his father’s cheek with one hand “Daddy I know why you’re sad and just know mommy and I are gonna take care of you.”
Dick cracked a small smile “Oh yeah? Mommy has always been good at that.”
There was a beat of silence as Dick continued to make the swing rock slowly back and forth “Did your mom tell you why I’m out of it today.”
Nathan nodded “I’m sorry”
Dick shook his head “Don’t be, nothing you can do about it, son.”
The boy shrugged “I can still be sorry. Even if I can’t do anything, Because I love you Daddy I can be sorry you’re sad.”
Dick chuckled lightly “How can you look so much like me yet sound so much like your mother.”
Nathan smiled “Like mommy says Me and Leah are the best parts of you and her.”
Dick ruffled his son's hair “That’s right”
The boy was quiet for a moment “Are you the best parts of your mom and dad?” He asked timidly
Dick bit his lip “Ummm I’d like to think so” he didn’t have the heart to tell his son he didn’t remember those kinds of details about his parents. “They would have loved you, and your sister….and your mom”
Nathan smiled “I would have had a grandma! I have 2 grandpas….and a great-grandpa. But no grandmas.”
Dick shrugged feeling a bit of his upbeat personality shine through “Selina is kinda like a grandma?” he waited for his son's reaction
The boy wrinkled his nose and shook his head “Selina is Grampie’s friend but she doesn't act like a grandma.”
Dick chuckled “I’d have to agree with you there Babs….your mom. Used to tease me that she was like my stepmom and I felt the same way.”
As if on cue the door opened to reveal Barbara “There you two are. Nate-I got the recipe from Grandfather Alfred, would you like to go to the grocery store with me to get the ingredients?”
He looked at his dad and shook his head “No Mommy; why don't you take Leah? I'm going to hang out with Dad”
Barbara smiled “All alright you two but remember have a family movie snuggle day scheduled !”
Dick smirked “Family, movie snuggles with Alfred’s cookies?”
Nathan nodded “Yup Mommy and I planned it. Does that make you happy?” he asked hopeful
Dick looked down into his blue eyes “It makes it better.” he assured kissing his son's forehead “Im so lucky to have a son like you
Nathan reached up hugging his son's neck “And I'm lucky to have a dad like you.”

Death anniversary
Dick and Barbara’s young son doesn’t like when his father is sad
Dick and Barbara’s 6-year-old son finds Barbara in the kitchen. He walks in,climbing on the high-top stool watching her for a moment before speaking
Nathan Grayson: what’s wrong with Daddy?
Barbara: nothing sweetie. Why?
Nathan: something is wrong- he’s not himself. Daddy always wakes me up with smiles and saying happy things, he scoops me up out of bed and spins me around. Sometimes we practice doing flips. This morning he came into my room and crawled in bed and cuddled me without saying anything. Then when we got out of bed he ordered breakfast from DoorDash instead of making Grayson Sunday breakfast like he always does
Barbara smiled at her 6-year-old. He was wise beyond his years. Inheriting the ability to read people’s body language from both his parents. She glanced out at the French glass doors that lead from the kitchen to the backyard, Dick sat alone on the white porch swing staring at the morning sun.
Barbara: Daddy…..today is a hard day for Daddy. Remember the conversationyou two had when he taught you about biological and adopted? How both loves are equal but what the words mean.
Nathan: yes. Daddy had a biological mommy and daddy who died when he was a kid a little older then me. But that doesn't mean Grampie Bruce and Grandfather Alfred aren't my real grandpas. You and Daddy are my biological though. Daddy’s brothers are all adopted but my sister is biological.
Barbara: correct. Well today is the anniversary of the day Daddy’s biological parents died. It happened a long time ago but its still a hard day for him, mommy has known your dad a long time and it's always a day where he is quieter
Nathan nodded, thinking for a moment: how can we help him feel better?
Barbara smiled: well. There isn't much we can do. Sometimes you just need some time to be sad. Especially when it's something like this. Sadness.…..in some forms is a good thing because when you're so sad that you hurt it means the memories of the good times you had together are still there
Nathan: but I don't like daddy being sad. What do you normally do on this day?
Barbara: I give him extra Love. I’ll tell you what, we will call grandfather Alfred and get one of his cookie recipes
Nathan: he likes Oatmeal rasin
Barbara nodded, grabbing her phone: okay so we will make those. All of us will stay in our comfy clothes all day and we will all cuddle up as a family in mommy and daddy’s bed and watch movies all day. Do you think that will make him happy?
Nathan: yes! He loves doing that
Barbara grinned, reaching over and ruffling the boys dark hair: so do I
Nathan: mom?
Barbara: Yes sweetie?
Nathan: please don't ever leave me like daddys parents. I know I’m not as strong as a kid as he was. I wouldn’t know what to do if I didn’t have you or him.
He sniffled seeing as he was on the verge of tears. Barbara walked around the counter. Picking up her son and hugging him tightly
Barbara whispered in his ear: oh my sweet boy. I promise me and your father will do everything in our power to make sure that never happens to either of us.
Nathan pulled back to look at his moms face: That’s not a promise that it won’t happen though
Barbara let out a breath, brushing her sons hair to the side with her fingers: baby, I can’t make that promise to you because we never know what may happen but like I said we will do everything in our power to make sure it doesn’t. Somebody will always be here for you and your sister. Unlike daddy you also have lots of aunts and uncles who love you. You have Grandpa Gordon, Grampie Bruce and Grandfather Alfred.
She reminded
Nathan smiled : there’s lots of people who love me
Barbara nodded: when your dad’s parents first died he didn’t have any of that. He was alone
Nathan looked down sadly : Poor Daddy. Mommy we should get started on those cookies
She grinned: let’s do it!

Past and present
Dick fidgeting anxiously in his seat at the corner booth of the local Pizza-Ria
Marcos, he and Barbara had been coming here since they were teenage friends.
Now they were grown and pretty serious Boyfriend and Girlfriend
His girlfriend he hadn’t seen in over a week due to work schedules
He missed her desperately
Hence why he was fidgeting as he waited for her to arrive for their Saturday night date
He stopped staring at the door for her to enter though when something else caught his attention
A young boy in a booth with dark hair, the boy's eyes fixated on a redheaded girl a few feet away completely focused on the pinball game she was playing
Neither one could’ve been older than 14
The girl turned her head when she lost the ball, looking at the brown-eyed boy “I’m going to use the restroom.” She thumbed
The boy nodded “Ugh okay, I’ll order if the waiter comes.”
The girl flashed him a smile before walking off
Dick grinned and decided since he was waiting for his girl, he might as well kill time. Sliding out of his booth he walked toward the boy
“First date?” Dick questioned
The boy looked toward Dick and shook his head “No Ah. We’re just hanging out. We’re friends, she's my Ugh-“
“Crush?” Dick grinned
The boy sighed “That obvious?”
Dick shook his head “Probably not to her. But I saw the look you were giving her when she was focused on pinball”
The boy looked down “Yeah it’s a lost cause, she’ll never see me as anything more.”
Dick smiled “Ah don’t lose hope. The look you were giving her- that’s the same look I gave the girl I’m waiting on when we were your age. And let me just say. We are DEFINITELY more than friends now.”
The boy looked up at him and smiled “How’d you do it?”
Dick shrugged “Patience, time, respect. I cared more about her than....well anything. And if that meant NOT dating her then I was willing to accept that. All I wanted was for her to be happy. And eventually, me being her boyfriend was exactly that.”
The boy looked up in thought “I do care about her a lot.”
Dick smiled, clapping the boy's shoulder “Well see sounds like you already have the right mindset. Good luck. My date just walked in.” He pointed
The boy turned seeing the red-headed beauty that was Barbara Gordon his eyes widened
“Redheads. Am I right?” Dick whispered before walking off to greet Barbara. The teen boy watched as she greeted Dick with a passionate hug and a sweet kiss before the couple sat at their own table to order. As his red-headed female friend returned to their booth he hoped that in the future they'd be just like them.

Barbara: Remember Alfred, if our son looks like he’s about to walk while you watch him and we’re working. Don’t let him
Alfred: And how do you two presume I prevent him from walking?
Dick: Push him
Alfred: Push him?
Barbara: Yes. If he looks like he’s about to walk I want you to push him down
Alfred: I’m not pushing a baby down
Barbara: And I am not going to miss my baby’s first steps. Push that baby down and scare him from walking so that his parents see that important milestone first
Dick: I’d listen to her, if you don’t I’d be afraid of whatever the consequences would be

Dick: I know Barbara and I are in an ‘off’ period of our relationship
Damian: Again
Dick:But I’m not saying anything negative about her because one day she could be a mother and I could be the father
Tim:Or you could just be the moms friend
Jason: or the annoying uncle
Stephanie: Or the creepy guy down the street who spies on her with binoculars
(Whole family stares at Stephanie)
Stephanie: Oh come on we all know if Dick ever really looses Barbara. There’s no way he’s not going to still keep an eye on her
Dick: She’s got a point
