hi sel! i was wondering if you had any tips or tricks or advice for making fic banners and dividers? yours are always so cohesive! ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜

hi nonie! omg i'm so flattered you asked me this 🥺 i’m happy you like them!! admittedly, i am a bit particular about the aesthetics of my fics, but don't really expect anyone to notice 😭

i am by no means a designer! but i'll share a few of the things that have worked for me 🥺 under the cut will be what i do for sizing, editing, and inspo!

SIZING (w x h dimensions, 300 dpi)

› banners: 1280 x 320 for my thicker banners. 1280 x 249 for my thinner ones. i've been preferring the thicker ones lately just because i prefer how it looks on the post compared to my thinner ones (more balanced and stuff!)

› dividers: 1280 x any size you want or 500 x 5. i have both jpg (thinner) and png (thicker) versions for my dividers, mainly because my jpg ones stopped working after a while* 😭 i use the png ones more now because the actual image itself is also bigger in height; there are transparent spaces above the bar itself that allow more control over the space your divider will have between text (please let me know if this is confusing! i'm not sure if i'm explaining it well).

*tumblr can be really selective with the media it allows on the feed and tags, and for some reason, some dividers have been causing that problem 😭 i still haven't figured out what characteristics/factors exactly cause it, but i suspect it might be a combination of size + colours. i usually have to do test posts to make sure it appears!

EDITING

› software: photoshop, figma. though i know there are others you can use (e.g., photopea, canva, picsart, etc.)! i just use these because i'm more accustomed to them 🥹

› process:

find a manga panel i like and clean it up (background removers can usually do the trick)

find colours i like and use it as the base for the background

*if using photoshop/figma/photopea: set the manga panel layer as 'multiply'

add the text

*for dividers: i usually just grab from the background of the banner (either i crop a portion of it or colour a long, thin rectangle the same colour)

attaching what my editing board looks like on figma! (i could be more organised but i usually do these things in such a rush i could never be bothered 😭)

› things i consider

for general fic banners: i like to keep a consistent format, which is: character panel + name + identifiable colour because they're the details that i'd like to inform people of first when they stumble upon my post! (some people will put fic titles too, which i don't do bc i can't be bothered to mess with the spacing 😭)

*keeping a consistent format also makes it easier to duplicate elements of your banners into other banners you'll be making! ex. if i'm writing 2 different gojo fics and decide to change what manga panel to use, at least i can always duplicate certain elements (i.e., name text) and find colours along a similar saturation/hue! it makes things a lot quicker and easier.

for event fic banners: i usually pattern it after the event banner itself! so for example, the fics under my 'how to be your loverboy' collab share similar elements (i.e., the wavy edge) to the main event banner. sometimes i use the same colours too (i.e., in's and out's event).

*on dividers not showing up on the dash: i notice it a lot more with light-coloured banners (some neutrals) and super thin ones. to find a way around this, i either change the colour and/or the size OR i'll find a photo that shares the colours i want and crop it to the size that i want (for some reason, it works this way 😭)

INSPO

i usually browse through pinterest for inspo on digital design stuff! i learned a bit of UX/UI so there's also a part of me that's influenced by its trends.

lately, i've been really into gradients! because it's a fun and easy way to make things look clean but not boring, and i think it can evoke the ~vibe of the fic based off the colours you end up choosing!

when i can't think of anything and want to come up with the banner quickly, i'll usually choose a photo/aesthetic i associate with the fic and blur the image until all you see are kind of blobs of colours. they're similar to gradients but have more shapes and require less of your brain power 😭 (i.e., by your passenger seat, and there's something...)

... and that's it!

Where do I start? 

The best place to start is the top of the masterlist! All the fics are arranged in chronological order. Most of the works don’t need a lot of context, but the arc of the story is designed to function chronologically. 

How do you write this thing? 

Out of order, mostly. Unless I’m working on a large arc, I will jump around to keep my muse fresh. It keeps me from burning out and it makes me happy that I can continuously add depth and detail without finding myself beholden to a chronology. The masterlist is arranged in chronological order, though!

When are you going to update?

I don’t answer this question or address it when anyone asks. I don’t know and I don’t plan! Everything is as much a surprise to me as it is to you and I will post all upcoming fics/posting schedules in the ajf updates tag. If nothing’s in there - I dunno what’s next! I’m working on a lot at once, a lot of the time.

Whats with the unlinked episode titles in the masterlist? 

Those are episodes I’m planning to adapt for the AJF universe. Bascially, the episode titles are a beacon that says “Yes! I will do that eventually!” 

What do I need to watch before I can enjoy AJF? 

There are major spoilers for seasons 5, 6, 7, and 9 included in AJF. However, if you don’t mind the spoilers, you can enjoy the story with any degree of exposure to Criminal Minds. AJF starts right before season 3, if that helps. 

Are you planning on writing X episode/covering X part of the Hotchner’s lives for the AJF Universe? 

Probably!

You’re more than welcome to throw it in this Google Form that I put together! I don’t guarantee anything, but as long as it’s in there it’s on my radar and I am invested in including as much as possible in the ajf world!

Can you write x, y, z about mom’s life or have the kids visit mom’s hometown?

Nope! Mom/Reader is you! I have not made Reader’s character an OC on purpose, and I can’t write anything about their/your life without excluding others, so I can’t do it the way the story is structured. 

Please feel free to share stories of your own traditions that you could see for yourself in the AJF world! I love hearing about them!

Do you have fancasts for the kids?

Nope! Again, I don’t make a habit of presuming anything about Reader/You. To fancast the kids, I would have to decide what Mom looks, like which I’m not goign to do. One of my goals in making this series is to make it as inclusive as possible. 

Step one in that endeavor is separating my own experience from Reader’s as much as I can, so I can include as many people as I can! The more people who can see themselves in that role, the better!

Are you going to write Spencer’s Prison Arc? 

Probably not. I’m not too keen on it as a narrative concept and I’m not into glorifying/romanticizing/not addressing character trauma for the hell of it. 

Do you include warnings? What are possible triggers in AJF that I should be aware of? 

I do include warnings on every fic. In general, expect language, canon-typical violence and mentions of assault/death/etc. Anything else specific will be outlined in the warnings section of each fic. Please feel free to ask if you would like anything specific tagged in the warnings. 

All the 18+ content is warned in detail, so you know exactly what to expect before you start reading. 

Is there smut or adult content in AJF? 

There is, HOWEVER, none of it is plot relevant. If there is a huge, plot-heavy fic that has 18+ content, I will be sure to adapt a sfw version so everyone can enjoy. I’ve done this with Mean It, and plan on doing the same for a few others. 

Is there an AJF inspo blog or pinterest board?

Yes! The inspo blog is @ajfinspo and you can dm me for the nsfw inspo blog as well. 

What’s up with Aaron not being in the field after Season 9? 

In the AJF universe, Aaron takes the promotion to Northeast Investigations and Operations Support Section Chief after 200, when Cruz is injured. Thus, he is only in the field on very special occasions and has more of a traditional working schedule. 

But Tali! There’s a big time jump between The Sandman and Beautiful Disaster! Hank Morgan is actually born in September, but you have his birthday in March? What’s with that? 

The timeline would have been 90 shades of fucked if I included the time jump, as I already had Isaac born that March and wanted Mom and Savannah to be pregnant at the same time (you know, for bonding purposes) and also wanted to have the added elements of dealing with A Beautiful Disaster with a new Hotchner baby. It’s an AU 🤷🏻‍♀️

Who’s Dean? 

He’s a friend of Reader’s from college - he’s excellent, and makes a fair few appearances after Berry Hill. Dean will return!

What about Sean? 

Uncle Sean steps his game up! We will see lots of Sean in the later installments of AJF. 

Does the family still go into WITSEC because of Mr. Scratch? 

Because Hotch essentially has a 9-5 working schedule, WITSEC is not necessary, as protective surveillance is much more effective with only one parent traveling for work. Also, I’m lazy and go with the Dungeons and Dragons rule of “don’t split up the party.”

hair clips are so important and useful, you should wear them more in general. match the colors up with whatever youre wearing, i suggest wearing them with the crop tops

body language: you need to be more open and show that youre listening to what others are saying. no crossing your arms or your legs, it gives off the impression that youre closed off. and when youre being me, i am NOT that type of person!!! SO OPEN UP!!!

long story short: love island was fun as hell. she did in fact find love, was a fan favorite, and won the whole damn show. she and her boyfriend moved in together shortly after becoming $100,000 richer. and you would think that a couple strong enough to win love island would be together forever, right? HA

it basically ended up in disaster for sofia with her finding out he cheated on her and had her out here looking STUPID. she was truly heartbroken considering they had been in the talks of engagement. but what can ya do?

she’s done many different side jobs in hopes of staying relevant in the media but her most successful endeavor so far is her podcast. it’s basically the “call her daddy” podcast where she shares stories about love, sex, relationships, and hook-up culture in nyc. it can get very raunchy and she’s definitely exposed herself more than anyone probably should ??? but it’s fun and it keeps her name in the headlines

safe to say her parents only had to hear one episode of the podcast to decide that they were beyond disappointed in her. they’re on the brink of disowning her at this point, which would sever what little connection she has to her family + make her lose access to her trust fund. but she’s trying not to stress about it since she makes her own money now

   oliver was born in kent, england. he’s the youngest in his family of three, having an older brother and sister w/ two loving parents. when he was nine, his family packed up and moved to southern california, where they resided until oliver left for college on the east coast - his family trading off between living back in england and on the west coast throughout the year. upon moving to a new country at a young age, oliver truly found himself via escaping into various books and movies. often attempting to write his own and would force encourage his siblings to act his skits/plays out for his parents enjoyment. growing up, oliver also enjoyed playing all types of sports ( his parents kind of threw him in hoping he’d make friends ), but when it came down to it, athletic abilities-wise, there truly wasn’t anything that he wasn’t ‘ good ‘ at, and that’s simply because he’s always been such a competitive individual / as well as a perfectionist. that competitive/perfectionist energy caused him to go home and practice a skill or trick for hours in order to be able to come back the next day and whoop everyone’s asses. throughout highschool ; oliver was a v dedicated student. although he’s a bit reckless and loved to goof off, he was always acing classes and applying himself. he genuinely cares for others, you could’ve seen his ass volunteering at a soup kitchen with his mom on sundays and what not, as well as take part in various clubs and sports ! just SOFT and sportythings.

   post-high school, oliver attended NYU double majoring in film & television and dramatic writing. despite his extensive and well received portfolio, oliver has always been a perfectionist and overcritical of his work, unwilling to share his projects with anyone until he deems them to be ~ perfect ~ himself. after graduating, he spent a year traveling, trying to find a bit of inspiration around him and taking up odd jobs to get some $$ of his own, dog walking, attempting his best at being a handy man, etc !! he moved back home to socal, and eventually made his way up to st.helen’s after he was sent a job posting for the bakery in town !! although he knows he doesn’t want to pursue a career in baking forever, he’s enjoying his time while trying to find a bit more muse for his future film&writing career.

   overall, oliver can come off as a bit reserved, and distant whether that be a result of his untrusting nature of others, or simply unfamiliarity. it takes a bit of time before he feels comfortable to share his true opinion / commentary / only doing so when he feels secure to do so. he’s not necessarily unfriendly, just a bit distant / lost in his thoughts. which varies, as with most ppl ofc, upon person to person and his level of comfortability among them. despite his often lack of conversation, he abhors an uncomfortable silence to settle and will fill it with nonsense to simply avoid the feeling altogether. so, if you ever want to catch him rambling, just making him uncomfortable dkjfngdf. he definitely approaches most things with a bit of ‘ tough love ‘ . he doesn’t mind getting into a quarrel or two if he knows its worth the outcome he’s envisioned. oliver will tell others when they are fucking up, and if they are throwing a punch as a result - catch him leaning into it, which explains his bout of reckless antics. he can come off as a know it all, when it comes to advice giving, but more so because he thinks he’s really good at analyzing others and situations they are in, not necessarily because he’s lived through them himself, he’s just rather intuitive and able to empathize quite easily with others despite his verbal admittance of it. when it comes down to this binches reckless bits, he just feels so intensely that he ends up numbing himself in the aftermath of it all ( especially bc he’s definitely not sharing those feelings with the people around him ), therefore he’s willing to put himself into harms way in order to get a bit of that - happiness / pain, it doesn’t matter to him as long as he no longer feels overwhelmed by numbness. so, if ya see him with some scrapes and stitches ~ mind ya business. but he’ll likely try to drag somebody else into it, and make it seem like it was their idea. but if he is truly comfortable with somebody, he walks a fine line of won’t stop talking, especially if it’s an interest of his, and comfortable silence.

he is a CANCER, therefore in this essay i will..... kidding but here’s some fun cancer info i saw that applies to my bb !! at first he appears to be wistful, sarcastic ( maybe a lil crabby ) , shy, distant and mysterious. this personality remains if he isn’t completely comfortable around somebody. but overall, that’s just his facade, his ‘smokescreen’ of sorts to scare off the world from his outwards persona. underneath that layer ( makes me think of shrek metaphor with onions // don’t mind me ), BUT he’s gentle, kind and affectionate ( if you manage to make it to that level * bell dings * ) !!! overall, oliver is a sensitive soul, a bit emotional although he’d rather d*e than show that to others. likely will internalize anything that can hurt his feelings / a low blow and will do something chaotic as a result later on bc of it. very polite, and a little worldly, he is truly the epitome of old-school gentlemanly manners. chivalry coming as a second nature to him !!

that was getting ramble-y, so continuing HERE. but when it comes to romance, as per the cancer man, the concept of love is a mystery, one that oliver is trying to attain. however, his shyness and innate distrust of others make it difficult for him to allow himself to fall in love. his guard is always up when it comes to his emotions, and it’ll take a bit of prodding before he’s willing to speak up on what’s desired from him. he’s v picky when it comes to finding the “ partner of his dreams “ - but he’s def willing to throw himself into the romance of the situation, i.e. buying flowers, riding white horses, and slaying metaphorical dragons. the traditional side means that he will shower his partner with thoughtful gifts, wine and dine them in the best restaurants, and try to grant their every wish. he will take the garbage out, fix that wobbly shelf, navigate on road trips, and kill more so trap and release bugs for his partner, and most important of all he will do it all without being asked. his loyalty and keen attention to the needs and wants of his potential partner. so basically, more so willing to showcase through actions than speak on it. it’s the little things, right ??!?!?! he def cherishes not just the act of being in a relationship, but what it means to become one with another person in mind, body, and soul.

prides himself on being able to make a mean cup of coffee, likely the worst person to watch a movie with bc he knows exactly how it’s going to end after only watching five minutes of it, he has a godawful sense of direction, will walk in circles for fifteen minutes before even raising a question about it/noticing ( but he refuses to acknowledge it. )

his house, car, workspace, junk drawer, closet….you name it - it’s organized, practically sparkling. often times arranged by color, and / or style. nothing is ever out of place, and if it is - there’s trouble brewing. but, more than anything, if he’s visiting somebody’s place and it’s messy, he will spend a solid thirty minutes picking everything up before doing whatever it is that was intended.

likes : reading, flowers, handwritten notes/letters, deep cleaning, baking, curating soundtracks for his film projects, watching the history channel and true crime docs and playing / watching hockey !!

dislikes : artichoke, clutter, sandals ( fkjgh ), unrealistic plotlines in movies &+ burnt coffee.

habits : smoking cigarettes - although he’s been meaning to quit. likely has a severe caffeine addiction, although he’s now normalized having six cups of coffee throughout his day. he’s an early riser, no matter how little the amount of sleep he’s received, he’s always the first to rise - for his early morning runs !!

strengths: creative, insightful, inspiring, convincing, determined and passionate, decisive, altruistic, intuitive !!

weaknesses: sensitive, extremely private, perfectionist, low-key always needs to have a cause / purpose, can burn out easily !! 

overall : oliver truly strives to be kind, and genuinely wants for everyone to get along. treat people with kindness and the like. he has the best of intentions, but often times that can get a bit muddled with the way he goes about things due to his bit of chaotic energy / as well as his often points of getting lost in his thoughts. he won’t realize he’s been quiet for the last three hours unless it’s mentioned to him. he will do anything to lighten a dark mood, and will sacrifice / throw himself under the bus if its needed. however, he also is the type to cause the dark mood depending on the day. wahoo! his more reckless antics increase when he’s feeling a bit emotional !! but he’ll likely try and convince somebody to propose the idea so it’s not on him.

in an attempt to throw himself into the town’s traditions and what not, after moving to st. helen’s oliver decided it was upon himself to put on a very spooo0ooky haunted house! so, catch him converting his home into a haunted house for the month of october !!! nothing cheesy either !! it’s more a psychological scare dkjgn with some gore elements !! EnTeR iF yOu DaRe !!!

he bounced around playing sports growing up, but favored ice hockey and field lacrosse out of them all.

✧  backstory

Devin  I.  Bahar  was  born  to  Isabella  Corine  Bahar,  an  ex-model  who  retired  when  she  got  married,  becoming  far  more  attracted  to  the  ‘rich  housewife,  bow  down  to  me’  aesthetic  than  continuing  to  work,  and  Damian  Ethan  Bahar,  a  lawyer  coming  from  a  long  line  of  family  lawyers  that  were  known  for  working  important,  high-profile  cases.

The  relationship  she  holds  with  her  mother  is  strained  due  to  the  woman’s  materialistic  nature  and  her  goal  of  marrying  off  her  daughter  for  as  much  money  as  possible.  Her  eyes  are  always  on  a  far  bigger  and  shinier  prize,  no  matter  how  good  her  life  already  is.

Her  relationship  with  her  father,  miraculously,  is  healthier  than  the  one  she  has  with  her  mother,  simply  because  she  has  absolutely  no  relationship  with  the  male.  He  took  off  when  she  was  younger,  cutting  off  all  contact  with  his  daughter  without  a  second  thought  and  he  hadn’t  bothered  to  make  any  effort  to  try  and  have  a  relationship  with  her.

In  fact,  when  she  had  attempted  to  start  some  form  of  a  relationship  with  him  after  she  turned  eighteen,  he  completely  rejected  her  and  wanted  nothing  to  do  with  her  and  it  ripped  her  apart  far  more  than  she  was  willing  to  admit  to  herself  or  anyone  else.

Even  now,  she  isn’t  sure  if  the  complete  cut  in  contact  is  due  to  her  mother  or  if  it  was  simply  because  she  didn’t  live  up  to  his  expectations,  didn’t  deserve  his  love.  Either  way,  she  has  attempted  to  move  on  from  it  after  the  rejection,  even  if  she  still  has  that  small  hole  in  her  heart  over  it.

Due  to  how  strained  her  relationship  is  with  her  mother,  she  moved  out  of  the  household  the  day  she  turned  eighteen,  having  managed  to  save  up  enough  money  to  support  herself,  wanting  to  get  away  from  her  as  soon  as  possible.  However,  the  woman  is  still  her  mother  and  she  does  still  attempt  to  have  some  form  of  a  relationship  with  her,  even  if  it  sends  her  into  a  horrible  mindset  whenever  she  has  a  conversation  with  the  woman.

✧  career

She  first  began  modeling  at  the  age  of  16  for  a  commercial  project.  She  also  starred  in  the  "Swan  Sittings"  by  Lesa  Amoore,  alongside  actor  Ben  Barnes,  before  appearing  in  "Smoking  Hot"  by  Holly  Copeland.  She  also  modeled  for  Hanna  Hayes'  F/W  2013  collection,  alongside  various  other  commercial  projects,  including  campaign  work  for  Chrome  Hearts  during  2013  and  2014.

She  was  then  signed  to  IMG  Models  in  2014  and  her  career  started  shooting  off  from  there.

She  never  actually  planned  to  become  a  model,  she  actually  wanted  to  be  a  photographer  when  she  was  younger  and  planned  to  go  to  school  for  it.  When  it  came  to  the  point  where  her  focus  turned  towards  college,  she  ended  up  heading  towards  visual  arts,  fashion  design,  and  graphic  design.  Out  of  that,  she  discovered  her  passion  for  clothing  and  that’s  what  began  her  journey  of  designing  clothes,  a  project  she  started  along  with  her  modelling  career.

Since  the  start  of  her  career,  she  has  won  over  a  dozen  different  awards  that  range  over  her  multiple  different  career-interests.  Managing  to  make  a  name  for  herself  as  a  model  and  fashion  designer.

As  much  as  she  enjoys  photography,  she  puts  most  of  her  focus  onto  modelling  and  continuing  to  add  to  her  own  clothing  line  full-time.  This  leaves  photography  for  her  spare  time  as  more  of  a  hobby,  however,  she  does  step  in  to  help  other  high-profile  photographers  from  time-to-time.

✧  personality

She  identifies  as  pansexual  and  has  always  been  very  open  to  sharing  and  talking  about  her  sexuality.

Has  always  put  her  foot  forward  to  support  charities,  organizations,  and  projects  that  support  the  entire  LGBTQ  community.  Along  with  making  sure  to  put  her  focus  into  other  charities  and  organizations,  she’s  always  been  the  type  of  person  to  ‘give  back’  and  to  put  her  support  into  the  things  she  believes  in.

Devin  suffers  from  intense  depression  and  anxiety.  For  the  most  part,  you  would  never  know,  she  does  well  but,  every  once  in  a  while  she  goes  into  a  deep  rut.  She  won’t  talk  to  anyone,  doesn’t  want  anyone  around,  generally  entirely  depressing  and  doesn’t  want  to  bring  other  people  down  when  it  comes  to  it.  It  takes  a  lot  of  trust  and  a  special  type  of  friendship  for  her  to  allow  you  to  be  around  during  that  time  considering,  most  of  the  time,  she’ll  go  completely  off  the  grid  the  entire  time.  However,  at  the  same  time,  she  openly  talks  about  her  battle  with  depression  and  anxiety.  She  doesn’t  ever  want  anyone  to  feel  alone  and  she  tries  to  involve  herself  with  as  many  campaigns  and  projects  that  involve  supporting  those  with  mental  illness  as  possible.

Along  with  this,  she  also  has  this  back  and  forth  with  affection.  She  either  hates  being  touched  or  gravitates  towards  it,  it  really  depends  on  her  mental  state  at  the  time  and  the  general  relationship  she  has  with  the  other  person  involved.  It  can  be  difficult,  one  day  she’ll  be  ready  to  give  you  a  bear  hug  and  the  next  day,  she’ll  shake  if  you  try  to  shake  her  hand.

On  a  more  positive  note,  she  tries  to  be  as  positive  as  she  can,  to  a  reasonable  extent.  She  never  wants  to  take  life  far  too  seriously  but,  obviously,  doesn’t  want  to  take  it  for  granted  either.  She’s  the  type  of  person  you  go  to  if  you  want  clear-headed  advice  but  you  don’t  want  to  be  talked  down  to  at  the  same  time.  Or  if  you  want  ridiculous  jokes  while  also  getting  some  kind  of  pep-talk.

Amaryllis Parkinson is a child who was never meant to be. It’s not that Pansy intended to have a one-night stand and end up with a child born out of wedlock, but well... things happen. An encounter with a stranger at the Hog’s Head, and nine months later, Mary was born. It was clear that Pansy was ill-prepared to take care of a child, and Mary’s grandparents certainly weren’t looking to lose their golden years by taking her in, so Mary instead found herself being shuffled around from family member to family member for the first few years of her life. While she knew who her mother was, there was never much of a bond there. For Mary, the word ‘mother’ is simply another person, not any more emotionally connected than a neighbor or frequent shop owner.

At age five, she was taken in be one of her mother’s cousins — Mary’s “Uncle” Pierce. This would turn out to be one of the best things that could have happened. While many of her other relatives sent Mary off as soon as she became too much (although their threshold for “too much” was always low), Pierce encouraged her to grow. Normally, Mary would be with a relative for upwards of a year before she was moved around. But with Pierce, one year turned into two which turned into three and before anyone knew it, he was the one taking her to gather up all of her first year supplies.

Although a Parkinson in name, Pierce was somewhat of an outsider. He was always a member of the family, but he was someone that they didn’t talk to or about unless absolutely necessary, which is how Mary came into his care to begin with — it was absolutely necessary. He was a Slytherin thanks to his ambition and cunning, but he never bought in to the concept of pureblood supremacy that was often associated because jkr is trash and doesn’t value slytherin qualities as a whole and therefor needs to demonize them all based on a sorting ceremony when they are eleven . He raised Mary based on his own principles, which included the idea of always being a little bit kinder than necessary.

Mary often wonders if she’d have been sorted into Slytherin had she been raised by any other family member, including her mother. She wasn’t raised by any other family member though. She was raised by Pierce, who taught her to value patience and kindness above all else. When the sorting hat was placed atop her head, there was no hesitation before it put her in Hufflepuff.

The news of her sorting did not go over well with her extended family. Because of the familial distance between Pierce and the others, the information didn’t even reach most of them until Mary showed up to their annual Christmas party that year, donned in a yellow dress to honor her new home. Her family would have been happy if she’d been put in Slytherin. They would have been content, if not disappointed, with Ravenclaw. They may have even been able to overlook Gryffindor if Mary could utilize the traits in a way they deemed appropriate. But Hufflepuff? Absolutely not. What resulted was a heated argument, accusations that Pierce had brought Mary up to be too soft from numerous family members, and Pansy declaring that she would be taking Mary in that following summer to raise her properly. Mary returned to Hogwarts after break in tears.

The summer between first and second year was the worst time of Mary’s life. Despite Pansy’s best attempts to teach Mary the same lessons she’d been taught, Mary wouldn’t take. She was hurt and angry, and learned that Pierce had been the exception that proved the rule in the Parkinson family. She never disliked her family for their views. They’d all been raised in an echo chamber, what else could they have been given the ostracization often placed onto Slytherin house? But that didn’t make Mary happy with Pansy either. She’d been taken from the only consistent home she’d ever known and placed with someone who had not wanted her. The summer was filled with screaming matches (aided by teenage hormones on Mary’s part) and more than one occasion of Mary running away to Pierce’s house. 

Luckily, those summer months came ans passed, and before Mary knew it, she was back in the confines of Hogwarts, where she could write her uncle and live her life as she’d been raised. Her mother, to no one’s shock, kept limited communication with her over that year, with Mary even opting to stay at school rather than go home. The stress at the thought of returning impacted her heavily, making it difficult to focus on her studies for most of the year and resulting in many meetings with professors to keep her on track. Around April of that year though, a short letter arrived from her mother, simply stating that she would be returned to Pierce once school was out. Mary cried tears of joy, feeling like things were finally set right again. As promised, Pierce was the one to meet her at the train station come June.

Her remaining time at school was a tremendous improvement from her second year, although it was decided that her and Pierce were no longer welcome at Parkinson family functions. While not the best student, Mary was certainly capable, and found a particular penchant for herbology. She’d always loved nature and would often help tend to her uncle’s garden growing up; plants and flowered were simultaneously beautiful and resilient, two things she greatly admired. When she left Hogwarts, it was with a heart full of kindness and diligence.

One thing that she’s found hard to reconcile with as she’s gotten older is her feelings towards her mother. She doesn’t like Pansy, and she knows she would be a completey different person if she’d been raised by her. She also heavily resents that period in time where Pansy robbed her of her happiness for (what Mary views as) her own selfish gain. Still, Mary can’t bring herself to hate Pansy. Hate isn’t something Mary is capable of in general, let alone to her mother. The biggest thing for Mary, more so now than when she was younger, is the fact that she feels abandoned. She wouldn’t give up being raised by Pierce for anything, but was the way he raised her really so bad that it made her own mother not wanted? Logically, Mary knows how fault that is — Pansy hadn’t wanted her from the second she was born, as far as she knows. But it still hurts.

Howadays, Mary is working as an herbologist, hoping to one day open her own shop that specializes in rare finds. For a short while, she’d considered training to be a healer but decided she couldn’t put herself in that emotional of a situation on a daily basis. Her love, though, is for plants used in medical potions and magical remedies. She also considered opening a flower shape but has instead settled for growing her own garden and keeping fresh cut flowers on her windowsill always. All in all, Mary wants to make the world a better place, even if just be sharing a little bit of beauty.

rowan comes from a fairly opulent background : her parents never married — in fact , her father came out as gay when she was young — but both were quite successful on their own independent ventures and raised row in a very happy , yet slightly spoiled , childhood

her mother is a big - time magazine editor and had sole custody of rowan in their lush calabasas home , but rowan has always remained incredibly close with her father , a celebrity chef , and often spent weekends and holidays in his long beach penthouse apartment .

because of her wealthy lifestyle ( and having a chef for a father ) rowan was exposed to fine cuisine at a young age . she had incredibly mature tastebuds — even at the age of like 6 she was munching on calamari and truffle oil . she honestly can’t remember a time she ever turned her nose up at trying something new , her father having instilled a deep curiosity and passion for all foods in her .

there honestly isn’t much else to say about her upbringing , there’s no big sob story or rising climax — rowan is incredibly grateful for the stable , happy , and comfortable life her parents blessed her with . she found going between homes quite exciting and looked forward to the double christmases and birthdays — which is a great symbol of how rowan looks at the world . while some may call it “ rose coloured glasses ” , rowan sees herself as an optimist and prefers to find the silver lining in most situations and considers dwelling on the negatives a waste of time .

alright , continuing on : when she was in her early teens , rowan started a food blog purely out of boredom and a general desire to share her passion for food . she started out by sharing low quality images of her meals and writing littles blurbs — nothing too fancy .

however , fast forward a couple years of ritualistic posting , her father discovered the blog one day and immediately shared it on his own social media ( because of course he had to brag about his little food connoisseur ) and row’s blog blew up from there . by the time she was 18 , rowan was getting paid to visit some nice ass restaurants around los angeles and write reviews on her blog , which was gaining interest with each post she wrote . 

high school graduation came and went , and row’s online influence grew bigger and bigger , and continued to grow even as she attended the university of california to major in communications , which she envisioned would only serve to aid her in her online endeavours .

during her college career , rowan started up her youtube channel . it started as a couple videos that she linked in blog posts , prompted by questions from her followers about how she juggled her busy calendar , what her favourite recipes were , and more . her videos opened her up to an entirely new audience , and thus rowan blew up even more . she has since become a popular youtube star , her channel a collection of daily vlogs , cooking videos , restaurant reviews , and more .

my main inspo for rowan’s youtube aesthetic was alisha marie , our queen , with her casual daily vlogs and fun challenge videos , but with a mix of madelaine herself and laurdiy ( i imagine row as the foodie version of lauren ) , and those sort of vlog queens !

places like i said like churches, groups, chatrooms, sites, apps, hotlines the apps and hotlines are good if u cant travel or want to talk to ppl who wont share their story bc maybe u cant hear it like its not the kinda help ur looking for. hotlines are sometimes tricky bc some of those folks are not educated they are volunteers so judgment leaks thru and in that case u ask to be redirected and report that volunteer so hopefully they dont repeat that kinda mess to other vulnerable folks looking for help

make a list of things, anything. list of foods u like to order, list of things that make u clench yr teeth, what were yr fave gifts you’ve ever got, style icons of urs, hobbies u tried that annoyed u, movies u can always watch, places on yr skin u hate being touched, any list of anything it doesnt have to be the usual thing of “what to live for” bc when yr depressed those kinds of things arent easy to think of. but if u get a list going of like “best things ive ever touched” “sounds that make me laugh” “trends that were stupid af” “popular things that i didnt like n couldnt figure out why they were popular” “weirdest ppl ive met” well those things might get u on a roll of good memories or laughing or seeing that theres more to yr life than what has been occupying yr thoughts

dancing. dance in yr room in the dark. clear some space. put on some headphones. lock yr door. do it in the shower. just dance. i had to start w closing my eyes and picking songs that i was taken by emotionally. songs that made me jump and slamdance tbh and then it’s just gotten more and more something im not as ashamed w. i spent a date night w james just dancing and then we ya know ya know bc the dancing got so wild. now i make playlists of songs that set moods for diff kinds of dancing

watch shows w ppl who arent doing better than u. they dont live in fancy places, they dont do much w their lives, they dont dress better than u, they struggle, they arent eating good food u dont have access to. iasip. freaks and geeks. letterkenny. undeclared. jake and amir. tpb. the state. youtube. tiktok/vine comps. lots of these kinds of vibes on youtube

podcasts. improv comedy podcasts tbh saved my life. comedy bang! bang! has best of’s those are good ones to start w. improv4humans bc matt besser has great guests of some of the best improvisers out there and he has musical guests and they’ll play a song and the improvisers will use it as inspo for a scene

make things. moodboards. pinterest. playlists. fill a shopping cart and tell yrself “i’ll get it when i win the lotto and move away from anyone who knows me so i can be the me i wanna be w/out judgement” make tea. make a meal if u can. make yr bed. clean one thing. clean the sink. hang some clothes or go thru yr drawers and clean them out. throwing things out feels hard at first but then it’s nice bc u feel less bogged down

find something to throw yr obsession at for a bit. something that wont hurt u as bad, being obsessed in general isnt good. everything in moderation irl. too much of something is bad just as much as too less of it can be bad. but yr looking for something lower risk here and if u gotta be obsessed w a celeb or a song or a food that’s ok. yr focusing the energy on something that isnt a substance so be proud of it

give yrself a break. give yrself some credit. everyday isnt gonna be on the “best of your name here’s days” but sometimes u just live to live bc that’s what u do. u wait it out and get thru it and wait for the sun to come back out. and if u cant get outta bed. or if you hate yr job and wanna scream- that’s normal it’s more normal than always being happy ppl just dont like talking abt bc society kinda trains us to hide our fucked upness idk why but thats how it is. they dont wanna tell us to do preventative care until we’re in the pits

all in all- it comes down to (at least for me) not planning w an endgoal in mind. it’s not over til it’s over and rlly we dont know. it’s all fluctuating and not meant to be a finish line we cross and then suddenly we’re done and we dont suffer anymore and the feeling of shit is gone or the risk of relapse is gone and the depression is cleared away never to be seen again. it’s not realistic. bc it isnt real. on the real- risk is always there and the downs and ups mix and run together and depression is not curable (this isnt something to be miserable over tho) depression isnt curable, yeah ok, but it is manageable. it can be quieted down from time to time and if u keep up w yr healthy routines and coping mechanisms- depression will still find its way to u bc the real world is not something u can manage. death in the family, loss of money or job, car breaking down, sickness outta nowhere, depression grows wild when these very real life stressors come into our lives. but all that too eventually gets easier and easier at least from a “ok i have some distance now” standpoint. and then as those days get more and more btwn it u can then be like “oh wow, ive made it thru X amount of days! ive put up w it this long! whats one more day, whats one more week, hell might as well see how much prouder i can feel once ive got a year under my belt!” plus u will be more capable of handling the bullshit if u know u can still find some safe places in yr coping skills or friends or resources.

ok so this is prob a mess but bottomline know this:

I love  you and i will be here the best i can should u ever wanna come spill or if u need me to just send u pics of my dog or boring pics of knickknacks or selfies or memes or links or anything just tell me what u need and i will try my best to show u my love. i hope u can see that u reaching out is just already a HUGE major step in the right direction, give yrself credit! thats amazing! yr already doing it pumpkin look at u! it’s hard ik. but i also know if u are capable of saying u have this problem going on, u are capable of getting thru this. u are a light in the world. u offer goodness and u offer yrself and that’s enough. even if yr fucked up right now- u are contributing to the world by simply being u. there is literally NO ONE ELSE WHO IS YOU. so u are unique by definition. i hope u get something from this post and if not i hope it strikes an idea or thing u can do that will help. i hope u know im here and i hope u see this.

Here are a few things you can do to make pictures look like they were taken in the 2000s!

What better way to look 2000s than when you use 2000s technology?

Exemples of things you could take a pic with are: an ipod, or any mp3 player actually, 2000s looking cd players, PS2 controllers (make sure it actually looks like you're playing or believe me, someone will notice!) or xbox controller (if you use older consoles of any type, the vibe might look more 90s but if you manage you can still make it work)

If you can't take a picture next to or with 2000s technology... anything? Well maybe you can take a selfie with a fliphone, or a T Mobile Sidekick (if you have one, lucky you!) or even a Nintendo DS if you've got one of those with the camera! Mirror selfies were also a thing of the (mid?) 2000s if they were taken with an actual camera! Let's also not forget the webcam pictures!

Special "effects"/ Editing:

One thing that makes almost all pictures look so much more aesthetic/better: putting the flash on! I promise it works almost all of the time, the picture will look more high quality and clearer even though it is the same quality as without! If you think your outfit might not be too great or you'd like to make it look like it was taken with a low quality phone, blur the picture! It could also just look artistic, which works just as good.

As for the editing, Glitter, like edits made on Blingee, turning up the contrast, putting a filter (or a few) that give off a blue hue or darker, add in your FriendProject profile number, or your nickname in a grungy font, or photoshop yourself in front of a cute butterfly background!

The poses and angles!

Taking a picture with only this information might not be enough to make it look as 2000s as you want it to be, so now let's see another thing; the poses and the angles! Especially when you take a selfie, do not understimate the power of the "myspace angle" as you might've heard before, the super high angle from which you take the selfie, in which you could include your whole outfit. I know, out of experience, that the position in which you have to try and stand to get your whole outfit in the picture is very, VERY uncomfortable, but trust me it's worth it!

Other angles/poses you could use are for example the ones in which you position the camera, phone or whatever you take your pictures with at your feet, put a timer or make someone take the picture for you, in an angle at which your feet will look bigger than your head and your whole outfit will be visible again! This one's hard to explain but here's an example, again from one of my pics because I couldn't find one from someone else: (putting "myspace picture big feet" on google, does in fact, not work)

Shoutouts from most known myspace celebs were a big thing back then, with the name of someone (or their own, partly to prove they aren't catfish) written on their hand or a piece of paper, as well as showing off fake tattoos made with sharpies, or something like "I love you!" on the palm of your head, so standing there showing it, could, somehow be a pose? I guess so... oh well, this is still something that would've been on this list!

There are many more (like for example the ones where your legs look broken as you sit on the floor, or the one where you are showing off your room plastered with posters..) but just know not to just stand there looking lost (unless that's what you're going for), be either VERY dramatic with the poses or super casual, no in betweens or you'll probably look awkward!

Dramatic makeup and hair!

Of course... To keep on being dramatic, because the 2000s very much were, (as every decade, in their own way, but you get what I mean) hair was often in crazy colors and or haircuts! Even if you were neither emo nor scene, celebrities like Christina Aguilera or Kelly Clarkson, to Matt Tuck (that's right!) had highlights in their hair, or just dyed parts of their hair, usually blonde, black or red, but chalk haircolor exists in many colors, so go crazy on that!

Not only that but side ponytails, extensions, crimped hair, face framing bangs, spiky gelled hair etc. Even if you aren't emo or scene, your hair can cover one of your eyes for the picture!

Makeup had to be very visible, especially as a scene kid or emo kid with the overflowing amount of eyeliner, and colorful mascara or anything that you could find to be original and "artsy" really, but also for any other person! Makeup looks that were usual attire were for example: LIPGLOSS, blue, purple, white or eyeshadow, frosty pink lipstick, a lot of mascara, colorful eyeliner, rosy cheeks, or lined lips (darker on the outside) but none of that would be complete without thin eyebrows! Fake tans are also a go-to if you're feeling it!

Now, if you're too scared to use hairchalk or dye your hair, and you aren't too good at makeup, no worries, you've still got other options!

Props and accessories!

Big sunglasses.. yes, even indoors! Rimmed glasses, Colored lenses, "Bug eye" sunglasses, there are many to choose from! Scarves, very unnecessary but pretty cool looking! Hoop earrings were also in! For guys too, jewelry was often worn, for example diamond earrings, shell necklaces, as well as the typical "gangsta wear", you would've guessed it: the dollar sign necklace or chunky golden chains/necklaces. They were ofcourse not first worn during the 2000s, but they were definitely still very much worn then! Other jewelry often worn were silly bands, wristbands, kandi bracelets and necklaces. You can even wear fake piercings!

As for headwear, still many to choose from, like trucker hats, both for guys and girls and anyone who'd like to wear those, bandanas, fedora hats, (do not recommend, 80% of the time you'll look awkward, but you can't know if you're part of the 20% that could rock the look if you don't atleast try, I guess) "baker boy hats" and big huge bows for all my scene beans out there. Belts. BeLtS! A lot, too much, 3 of them, or one big one, just find whatever you have and wear the goddamn belts! Fishnets! Fingerless gloves! They were very much in, and not just for scemo kids!

Not only is it about things you can wear, but also things you can use for the picture, you can look cute while holding a plush toy, (bonus points if you've got a gloomy bear, hello kitty or gir plush!) mysterious while holding a notebook/ diary of some sort or nerdy with your favorite book, but a lot of pictures get much more fun when they are super random, for example like kiki kannibal, just casually holding a lamp in her garden...

Clothing!

Now, this one will be short as I will mainly give you guys links to some articles that talk about 2000s fashion, but here's a thing: If you're going for a very "in your face" kind of style, go fully crazy lol! Scene kids get your neon green tights or red ripped skinnies out and wear all of the colors, preps wear your shiniest Playboy logo shirt, goths and emos you better wear your nicest black knee high converse, all of it!! Go fucking over the top because truly, it was rarely ever over the top in the 2000s! Also, did I mention? Cringe culture is dead, nobody cares if you somehow manage to truly go a little too far! If you're feeling yourself, don't hesitate to show a little skin, (I don't mean totally naked, duh, especially if you're a minor plz no it's usually a very bad idea) ain't nothing wrong with mini skirts or crop tops! (guys, GUYS please wear them too if you feel like it, I promise you a lot of us think that's hot okaythatsall)

with parents who weren’t able to afford having another child, they sadly didn’t have any other option, but to give her up. after talking among mom’s siblings and dad’s siblings, it was soon decided that her dad’s brother would take her in. soon, she went from tba to morgana jones. however, if you look at the family picture, some wonder why a family of four would want to add another? especially when they weren’t well off? well, mr. and mrs. jones just couldn’t say no to adding another baby to the family. and that wasn’t the end of the family’s story. as years passed, the family continued to grow and sooner than later, the jones’ family had ten children in total. as for morgana’s biological parents, they moved out of louisiana and lived somewhere else in california.

morgana lived a pretty average life. she went to school, got good grades, had friends, joined clubs at high school, and went to school events. the only things that were quite different were having to share basically anything with her siblings. a bedroom, food, the bathroom, the tv, etc. it certainly irritated her at times, but she loves her family no matter what and thinks all of it is worth it. while the other thing is the blackwater creeper. she's heard multiple rumors and read various articles about it, but doesn’t have full proof on the creature. however, that doesn’t stop her from trying to find more details as she’s curious and enjoys the lure of it all.

tl;dr a girl who grew up in blackwater all her life with 9 siblings and is quite energetic, optimistic, & extroverted, but can be self-righteous & inconsiderate at times who believes in the blackwater creeper and wants to find out more about it.

a girl who was born in las vegas, nv. she had wonderful parents that divorced when she was fourteen. however, she didn’t mind it at all. she was happy as long as her parents were. also, she wanted a bigger family, so if they were going to remarry to other people, she was okay with that too. eventually, that was what happened. her mom remarried and she had a step-dad who had children, which certainly made her excited because now she was going to have step-siblings since she was an only child. frankie cared about them and loved them because family meant everything to the girl. she was used to switching houses during the weekdays and weekends, spending time with her mom mondays to wednesdays and dad thursdays to sundays. what also should be mentioned is that she comes from new money in both families, except she doesn’t bother flaunting it. 

by the time she was sixteen years old, she was betrayed by her closest friends and now has a cynical view because she wasn’t able to forgive them. she was told multiple times to get over it, but couldn’t. she continued to wonder how people can be so close then do something harsh to another. it still astonishes her now and from that point on, she didn’t really let anyone into her life, thoughts, or feelings. frankie prefers to use her time indoors watching movies/tv shows, taking care of her plants, reading, or simply going on the internet. if anything, she’s mainly the type to have a one night stand, but has kept only three or four friends with benefits all her life. and has one or two close friends.

Demii Whiffin - Q&A

Some questions that I asked:

1. If you had to put your pre-work thought process into 3 steps, what would they be?

for my own work (not commissions) there’s not much conscious thought that goes into it pre-work? it’s mostly going through materials (paper, pens, magazine cutouts) finding what I like and what words I want to use (I have a list of phrases in my phone) - after that it’s just about instinct and working out what looks good. As for commissions, my pre-work steps are: discussion, ideas/planning, and finding materials. discussing what the client wants/doesn’t want, dimensions, deadline, specifics etc is crucial because this is what will trip me up at the end. ideas/planning consists of me scribbling different layouts and potential ideas I could try - for me it’s important not to plan too specifically because a lot of what I do is about instinct and detailed planning doesn’t allow for that. finding materials is just about going through my supplies and finding anything that could possibly be useful - doing this now rather than mid-work saves time and helps me not get distracted later on

2. How do you look for inspiration for your work?

I get a lot of inspo from other artists online. most of the time it’s not about their actual work but feeling inspired by what they’re making/the fact they’re making anything (every time I see anyone making a zine I immediately want to make a zine). seeing other people being productive makes me want to be productive ! not to be a middle-aged mum but I also love Pinterest! having a place to keep all the art I love is so useful and really inspiring when I’m in a rut.

3. What platforms do you use to post your art and why?

I post on Tumblr at least once a day and everything I make goes on there. it’s a good place to keep track of everything and I’ve been posting on there for the longest so it’s a comfortable place to be. On Instagram I’m way less consistent and I only post stuff I really like. instagram doesn’t let you upload a5 portrait pieces (i.e. 90% of what I make) without cutting off the edges so that’s limiting but I love the community there and always feel super supported whenever I post anything. I’m even less consistent with Twitter and only post art on there when I remember, and up until very recently no one that followed me there was there for the art so I just … didn’t feel the need? I haven’t shown anything in the real world yet (not completely sure where I’d fit in in the Art/Illustration World?) but I’m definitely open to that at some point!

4. Explain the pace at which you produce and share your work

Each piece can take anywhere from 5 minutes to several hours, but when I’m on a roll I can make a bunch of pieces quickly in one sitting. Other than just finding it fun, part of my motivation comes from posting something every day on my blog; however ‘unartsy’ it sounds, having targets and deadlines is really helpful.

5. What relationship do you have with your followers/fans?

Literally, everyone who follows me is just… so nice? I recognise a ton of usernames and I love seeing the same person across different social media platforms and being like “Ayyy I know who that is!”. I also love stalking people who follow me on Instagram and then sometimes they’ll message me and I’ll be like… ‘Yes, I remember this person, they have a great theme and a beautiful dog… love it’. I know how frustrating it is to have a Very Important Art Question and not get an answer so I’m keen to reply to every message I get and be as helpful as possible.

6. How important to you is it that people like and appreciate your work?

Good question… Obviously it’s great when other people like the stuff I’m making but if they didn’t, I don’t think I’d change what I’m doing. I’m really fixed on the idea of making and posting whatever art I like because anytime I start doing art I think people will like it ALWAYS turns out awful! In any case, there’ll probably be SOMEONE in the world that’ll like it and if not… I like it so what does it matter?

Bullet Journaling 101: My Story, Flipthrough, Tips and Resources

A bullet journal is a system of organization created by Ryder Carroll that “aims to track the past, organize the present and plan for the future”. It’s a diary, journal and planner all in one: an amalgamation of all the facets of a person’s life in a series of different bullet points. Several YouTubers and bloggers have attributed their newfound sense of productivity and success to this and attested that it has helped tremendously in reordering their priorities.

And just like everyone else who seemed tempted by the idea, I’ve been wanting to join the whole movement. In fact, I’ve been watching flipthrough videos since last year, with my “bujo inspo” YouTube playlist amassing a grand total of 109 videos as of press time. I’ve followed a lot of Instagram accounts who’ve made a living out of this practice, and even put a short-lived Pinterest account (for the third time since the ninth grade – I don’t know why it can’t stick with me) in the hopes of gaining inspiration to get started. But, none of those worked in helping my intimidation die down.

I have been exposed to a great number of bullet journal spreads that are so aesthetically pleasing and color-coordinated that they seem almost unrealistic. I lacked the skills and resources required to start. Not enough Tombow brush pens or collaging skills in my arsenal, I thought, which would just lead to a decline in my journal’s appeal. At this juncture, I would like to point out that a bullet journal’s main priority must be functionality. Yes, it can also serve as a great medium for artistic expression but this must not hinder it from serving its true purpose: to get its owner’s life together.

If it’s of any interest to you, I use a Leuchtturm 1917 ruled notebook in the color purple, which I got for half its original price at my local National Bookstore. I was initially supposed to go for the dotted version, as it is more popular in the bujo community. Turns out I forgot to check the label before paying for it, and only found out I had bought the wrong version when I had got home. I don’t have any regrets though: I find it easier to write on lined pages, and they don’t really change its effectivity.

I have a black Pilot G-Tec in 0.4mm thickness for writing, as I feel my handwriting looks best when I use this pen. Alongside these are my Dong-A fineliners—which are a great alternative to the much pricier Steadtlers—and my pride and joy, my Stabilo pastel highlighters. I have a black Artline Stix brush pen, which I use for my headings, and a normal pencil for making rough drafts of spreads. I also keep a thin pad of Post-it notes that I replenish weekly on the front page, where I write down any ideas that pop in my head that I’d later on put in its respective spread. I’m trying to keep my set-up as minimal and low-maintenance as possible, but with a pop of color here and there so it won’t end up being too bland and boring.

But contrary to popular belief, there is no fixed set of materials that one must purchase to start a bullet journal. In fact, there doesn’t even need to be any purchasing at all: you can start with something as simple as an old notebook lying around your bedroom floor, and the regular pen that you use for school. Colored markers and washi tapes and any other art supplies are purely optional.

Now that we’ve got that out of the way, here’s a peek into what’s actually inside my bullet journal:

Key: Consists of a series of symbols that mean to organize entries into different categories. I have tasks—which can be subdivided into those that are complete, have been migrated or scheduled on another date—events and notes, which can be further emphasized by an asterisk that means they are a priority.

About Me: A short page on the side complete with my basic information. I don’t intend on sharing this with anyone else after this post, but I like keeping this as it feels like a standard way of starting a journal.

Index: Serves as a table of contents. It’s incredibly helpful when it comes to locating spreads, but it cannot fulfill its purpose if one is not consistent in supplying the information it needs. I like to jot the page number and a short description of what’s written on it in the index immediately after I fill out another spread so I don’t forget.

Future Log: My next six months at a glance. This is where I write all major activities and events. I’ve considered putting in birthdays of people who are important to me as well, but I feel like they’d take way too much space so I’ll work on assembling a separate spread to keep track of them.

Collections: Just a few pages to jot down some books I need to read, movies to see, posts to write for this blog and places to go. If ever you have any recommendations, you can shoot me a message here on Tumblr or any of my social media accounts.

(Half) Year in Pixels + Habit Tracker: Admittedly my favorite spread so far. Although I did have to make the grids manually because I’m using a lined notebook, I am very satisfied with how this came out. On the far left side, I’ll be tracking my mood by coloring in squares according to how I felt during the day: purple if great, red if good, orange if it was smack dab in the middle, blue if it was an off day and green if terrible.

For the remainder of the spread, I’ll be monitoring my progress in developing five habits of my choice and checking the corresponding box if I was able to do it on that specific day. The ones I’ve chosen to focus on are drinking eight glasses of water a day, eating only one cup of rice for lunch and dinner, not lurking on anyone’s accounts during my free time to avoid counterproductivity, saying only kind words towards others and using social media for only an hour a day.

Monthly Spreads: Pretty self-explanatory. This is the one I’ve made for November 2017, and I feel like this is the layout I’ll be sticking to. On the left-hand page, I have all the days of the month written vertically with an important task or event beside it. You might have noticed that these are the exact same items under my Future Log, and think that the whole practice of bullet journaling can get quite repetitive but I find it better to write the same things over and over again so they stick to my head.

To the right, I have an expenses tracker, where I write everything I’ve bought for the month. I was supposed to add a box to indicate my savings goal, but I’ll get around to that eventually. I also have a sleep tracker, which I will be doing in the form of a line graph, and my five main goals to give me a sense of direction.

Grades Tracker – 3rd Quarter: Where I write down all the marks I’ve gotten in all my subjects. I write down HW for homework, PT for performance task, Q for quiz and SW for seatwork, then my score but I haven’t been able to do the latter yet since none of our class activities have been graded yet. I’m aiming to become at least a Merit Card Awardee by the end of the school year, so this tool will be extremely helpful in ensuring that everything I do is a step in the right direction.

I have a page that shows my class schedule for this semester and two weekly spreads but the former is too private to divulge and the latter is still under construction, so I decided not to include any pictures of them. Besides, I don’t think any of them would be of much interest to you. Do note that this serves mainly as a source of inspiration. Your bullet journal does not have to follow this format. Since it’s highly flexible and customizable, revolves around you, you wants and your needs, you call the shots at the end of the day and are given full authority to change things up to your liking.

Why I’m Suing SimplyImaginaryPeople for §5,000,000

Naaah but get it? Simoleons and.. we’re in the..sims community..? No? Ok well that’s the only funny thing about this post.

It is frustrating when you work very hard on something exciting and original to share with others and to be wary about even doing it because someone is in tow to copy. This is exactly how I feel about SimplyImaginaryPeople.

This is so disrespectful not only to us (TheTogetherStore) that have spent so much time putting effort into the things that we make but it is even more disrespectful to the amazing wonderful people that have chose to support us on Patreon and get exclusive gifts in return, only to have someone turn around and remake everything that we’ve made specially for them, just because. 

The thing that bothers me the most is that of everything that we (TheTogetherStore) make is that she ONLY copies the things that are on Patreon (A website where we upload exclusive content if you CHOOSE to support us, and sometimes Patreoners will personally ask for our own personal use items or conversions from various sites to be uploaded so why not? They support us with their hard earned money, it’s the least we can do). 

Like, okay girl I get it, you expressed (repeatedly) that you dislike Patreon and believe everything in Sims should be free and no one should pay for content even if they wanted to, I get it. It’s cool and all that you want to be the Robin Hood of the sims 3 community but news flash, this is not a damn folklore so go ahead and take off your lil Peter Pan outfit and ya lil burlap made shoes and knock it off because it’s not cute. People are free to buy w h a t e v e r they so please, it’s not your money, it’s surely not your hand made cc, not your time, not your effort, I’m not using your computer, they’re not using your bank card, nada, nothing.

Every single time she has copied, we’ve politely and privately addressed this and messaged her to reach out as a small heads up like “Hey not sure if you’re noticing but you totally just duplicated *item here*” and each time it was that ole’ “Silly you, I’m not copying! Yeah, ok. 

Soooo you just happen to get inspired to make the exact same mesh that we just made, just days after we release it on Patreon? Oh duh, don’t mind me.. seems legit.  Eventually she came to me on her own, right after copying, to explain how she just realized her recent piece of cc was a copy of a romper in one of my pictures (HELL, I didn’t even make that I only retextured it.) and she apologized for that. She hadn’t known because of all the requests she gets, someone sent her my picture and asked for her to remake it in which she did..but somehow did not realize she was copying anyone until after she made the thing. OK first of all, if someone sends you a Sims 3 picture and asks you to remake a piece of clothing in the picture.. you’re not about to go make it and then afterwards be like “Aww damn I didn’t realize someone had made it already” like clearly it’s been made???????

Of course I pulled an “I told you so” that was followed by her “realizing” that she copied soo many things we’ve already made on Patreon and how her heart was just so damn broken and she just felt “soo bad for it” because the people that so-called requested it were her friends and how she just basically needed to remove those fucked up toxic people from her life and take a break from making cc as well to get over it. Oh and she wouldn’t copy anymore. 

Squashed ..bam, I thought we were good to go but the copying had been so bad and happened so close together that people assumed that @purpleplumbobs​ was copying and people hadn’t known that she was the one that made them first, and actually started the entire “bonnet” creating idea. So Frankie(SimplyImaginaryPeople) was asked to publicly address it letting everyone know the situation and how she was so poorly “manipulated” into copying. Pshhh, we thought! We thought that she could take full credit for her actions but she “doesn’t like drama” regardless of if she started it or not and refused to admit anything publicly (;

PurplePlumbobs just had to address it herself and that was that, or so we thought.. again. Ugh, right? It doesn’t end.

She finally started making cc again after her little vacation (like under a week, wow so long she might as well went full blown hiatus right?) and what do ya know, she’s copying what she missed out on in those few weeks time.

SOO I messaged her ONCE again like hey what’s up? I thought you were done with the copying life, some other stuff blah blah blah. I guess she didn’t choose the copying life and it chose her because had that triggered a tense back and forth session of no one going anywhere with anything so we just cut that short. 

She went missing or on break because I had messaged her YET AGAIN about the hair bow (pictured) and how she copied it soon after I released it and got no reply or response yet she stayed on tumblr liking posts... so I was like huh, In..ter..esting.. Her ass was just sitting up there ignoring me.

So bam she comes back, better than ever days later with whole room sets featuring amazing, super rare copied bassinet, ultra copied crib mobile.. you name it! Come on down and shop on now folks!

So ya’ll... I was shocked when I woke up to a message and someone was like “Hey isn't that your crib mobile?”

Me:

I think that is SO trifling, she must’ve read my message like “Oh speaking of copying, let me just keep ignoring you and go and load up this double whammy I’ve been working on”

Anyways, since private messaging isn’t stopping her from copying and keeping us from feeling like even posting or making anything (seemingly what she wants), maybe this public message will. If it doesn’t I’m shit out of options because then that means there’s clearly something not clicking in that sweet baby’s noggin.

OMG, LOVE! - December

I hope everyone had an incredible holiday season and December! It’s absolutely bananas to me that Christmas is already over and that this month and entire YEAR is ending in just a few days. I already shared this on my Instagram, but I’m going to include it here too, because I love this quote and truly mean it. 

“I will honor Christmas in my heart, and try to keep it all the year.” Ol Charlie Dickens had the right idea, y’all. Feeling a little sad this joyous and generous time of year is coming to a close, but also so very grateful for the people who care for me from Atlantic to Pacific. Wishing everyone a Merry little Christmas and the absolute best in 2018 💜🎄🎊

Beauty and Fashion:

American Rag Edee Ankle Booties in Cognac at Macy’s - I saw these booties in-store last year and didn’t snatch them up in time before they were out of stock for the season. I finally picked up a pair and have been wearing them ALL the time. They are so comfortable and go with everything; love them and the fun exposed zipper detail. 

Chop Chop - I cut my hair!! Thank you to Chrissy for being my hair inspo and support system in going for a shorter cut! 💇🏻‍♀️ I absolutely love it and have been wanting something different for a looong time. The lob/shorter hair style has been popular for awhile now, but I was always hesitant to do it with my hair. I feel really comfortable with my stylist here (who I found through Groupon when I first moved to NC!) and trust that she understands my super thick and natural texture to give me something I can work with whether I want to style it or not. I’d totally recommend Samantha Pierce Hair Design if you’re local and in need of someone! She is located the Sola Salons right off Glenwood, past Crabtree Mall.

Lifestyle:

ban.do Medium Agenda in Rose Parade - It’s that time of year where I buy an agenda and try to be more organized, creative and cool. I did pretty good last year with my Sugar Paper one - lord knows I had quite a few activities and items to keep track of in 2017. I of course use the iCal app on my phone and computer, but there is just something about having a place to physically write something down and see everything laid out in one spot. If you’re in the market for a 2018 agenda, planner or calendar, I definitely recommend looking at HomeGoods/TJ Maxx/Marshalls! I picked up this ban.do one that retails for $28 at Home Goods for only $12.99! The stores I visited had a ton of options, colors and sizes ranging from $6.99-$19.99. The one I picked up comes with a pocket folder, stickers and very important “holiday” information as can be seen above.

Glisten Disposer Care Foaming Cleaner - Okay, I know this is kind of weird, but I totally got sucked into one of those Buzzfeed articles (specifically 27 Amazing Cleaning Products You’ll Never Regret Buying) and HAD to try these. If you have a garbage disposal you must go on Amazon right this very moment ($6.37 for a four pack) and get them or just watch the video of what the blue foam does. It is like an amazing science experiment and it might just be an illusion, but I swear my disposal is running faster and better. 

Food and Bevies:

Tortellini Soup with Italian Sausage & Spinach - I can’t be trusted when I go to the grocery store with nothing to do afterwards. I do things like buy a package of ground Italian sausage when it’s on super sale and put it in my freezer for a month. Enter a Pinterest search (follow me!) for something to do with it and I found this recipe from Yellow Bliss Road. It was incredible and I will definitely be purposefully buying Italian sausage to make it again! 

My recipe notes for anyone who is interested:

- I used a can of crushed tomatoes that also had extra garlic, basil and oregano in it. The recipe calls for its own amount of garlic and fresh basil (I used half the amount it called for of dried instead), I just had this kind of canned crushed tomato on hand and think it gave it even more flavor. 

- For the onion, I grated (instead of diced) one entire medium sized onion. I did this on a cutting board with a box grater and used all of the juices that came out the onion as well. This brought out a lot of onion flavor and almost melted into the soup.

- I used an entire bag of fresh baby spinach - it calls for two cups of packed, but I just used the whole bag.I made the entire base of this soup the night before I was going to have it. I didn’t put the fresh spinach or tortellini in until the day I was first going to have it. When it reheats a few days after the tortellini gets a little mushy, but still tastes really good.

- I used light olive oil instead of vegetable oil.

Utica Bakery (in North Carolina) - If you live in the greater Triangle region, I totally recommend taking a trip to the Utica Bakery in Apex. It’s right off of the toll portion of 540 and is completely worth the short drive! They have so many of the amazing Italian bakery items I grew up enjoying in Central New York like half-moons, cookies, breads and cannolis. Don’t get me wrong, I love the amazingness that are North Carolina donuts and biscuits, but these are different amazing and you just have to try them for yourself. Let me know if you go, because there is a very good chance I’ll come with you. 

Entertainment:

Brother’s Osborne Ain’t My Fault - This song has been my jam since seeing Brother’s Osborne perform it at the CMA Awards and the music video I just watched for the first time today is pretty great too. After seeing their performance, I immediately purchased the entire Pawn Shop album and have really been enjoying listening to it. Fun fact I saw brother T.J. at a boutique the first time I went to Nashville a few years ago (before they really blew up) and I thought he was Josh Turner because he has such a low voice haha. 

*Sidenote: If you want to watch another amazing country performance from the 2017 CMA Awards, check out Dierks Bentley, Rascal Flatts, Montgomery Gentry - My Town. I’ve watched it so many times and I always get chills and teary eyed. And if you want to watch yet another country/crossover performance that isn’t quite as emotional in a sad way, I recommend Justin Timberlake and Garth Brooks - Friends In Low Places because how stinking cute is Justin Timberlake fan girling over Garth Brooks?! Can you tell I spend a lot of time on YouTube?*

Snowed-Inn Christmas on Lifetime - I watched many a Christmas movie this season and I have to say Snowed-Inn Christmas on Lifetime was one of my favorites. It was what you’d expect from a Lifetime/Hallmark’esk holiday movie, but it was so cute and Bethany Joy Lenz (hello Haley from OTH) is in it! Thanks for the best recommendations as always, Rebecca! ❄️📺🎅🏼
