Harry Potter Rec Fest Day 19 - Hottest Smut

For a third day in a row, these are stories that stood out because they made me feel things in a less than ideal place, like on a cross-country train. Thanks, @hprecfest for calling me out. 😳

Sugar and Spice by @inlovewithforever Pairing: Draco x Hermione x Theo Word count: 156,052 Rating: E

I devoured this fic last summer during one of the canicules (heat waves) in France when it was too hot too move. I'm not sure whether the heat or this fic made me sweat more; it was a close competition. There's also so much sweetness and the relationship develops in such a lovely way. I couldn't get enough of it.

Fawning Over You by @toxik-angel Pairing: Draco x Harry Word count: 39,283 Rating: E

Holy moly, this is the hottest fic I've read in quite a while. It was part of this years @hd-fan-fair Career Fair, where Harry is a politician and Trans!Draco is a uni student who makes porn online on the side. The writing is incredible and so hot, especially considering there's no actual sex until the very end. It's very accurately tagged Voice Kink, so I hope the author will let me podfic it soon. (No pressure, @toxik-angel, but I doubt that Harry would be the only one who gets off on Draco's voice.)

The star of the show here is the tension build up. @aneiria-writes writes great smut in a variety of pairings and poly ships, but in this soulmate fic, I think it's the build-up that makes it so hot. I don't want to spoil the fun, so I'll leave you to check it out for yourself.

Mind and Body by sarena - a Podfic Pairing: Draco x Hermione Word count: 20,999 Rating: E

As I reach the end of this list, I realize that we're all just sort of outing our own kinks. 🤷🏽‍♀️ This one is it for me - the tag Sapiosexuality doesn't have enough works in it to satiate me, but this fic is a perfect example. The author says "I never thought anyone would brave so much explicit smut" with regard to this podfic, but I can tell you that I didn't need any courage at all. Everything about it, even the initial nervous meeting-in-a-bar and stumbling over post-war feelings and guilt, is so well done. I love a Hermione who knows what she wants and takes it.

Hello everyone! since i don’t have a ton of time to work on fics and stuff like i used to, i figured i’d use this opportunity to share around some other creators 🥰 i want to be able to show this community more love and support and so i’m going to try and make this a weekly thing! all of the content creators deserve to be shown love and support and if anyone has any creators they’d like me to mention in one of these id love to check out their work and mention them!

the very first creator i’ll be mentioning is my lovely friend @wheels-of-despair

they’re someone that i’ve been mutuals with for a while and i’m so glad that they’re the very first person i’m using for my blog recs!

They write for a variety of Joseph Quinn’s characters and honestly i love to see how much of a genuine fan they are of his characters. She always makes sure to do her research too! For her more historic fics she will always make sure everything is very true to the time period.

They also have their own specific universes for their fics which i love! You’re able to see the difference in personalities when it comes to interacting with the characters.

They collectively have 50+ fanfics already posted for her characters and that’s not including all the other extras 👀

So sweet! It’s so simple and yet so touching, even if it is just bringing an adorable little plant back to life, i actually got excited to see Billy’s reaction at the end c:

Ralph: Worth It Chapter 5

Picking out just one was a bit tough 😅 but i do love that these fics are written in a way where they can be somewhat read as one-offs as well :) this is the one fic that actually made me shed a tear as i read it, Ralph is just his sweet self as always and it’s hard to not love that!

Tom: The Boyfriend Cure

Though this is their only fic for Tom it was one that i loved nonetheless! Very short and very sweet, i love smaller fics like this, especially when they’re this comforting!

Insanity? 😂 The Brainrot had me in such a chokehold, I had to let it out somehow. I was driving my normal friends crazy. So I came to tumblr last fall, after I'd read almost everything on AO3, and conned eddiemunsonsmum into being my friend. (She wrote a series I read and loved last the summer, when I was still suffering through The Brainrot in silence.) She's the one who convinced me to start writing. So really, this is all her fault. 🥰

I do some writing for work, but it's not that creative.

Meant to Last (E, 2.4k) - incredibly hot Ron/Pansy with excellent smut and superb characterization, I love their voices and the intense heat, not to mention the gorgeous ending! Background Drarry as a treat

Sugar Wanna Kill Me Yet (E, 3k) - I don’t read Draco/Teddy often but this one is so excellent! I love their secret affair, the dynamics and the subtle angst explored through the metamorphmagus sex. That belt fastening scene still lives rent free in my mind…

This is their dance. This is their push and pull. This is how they move through life: Testing the people that purport to love them. Filling in the gaps. Looking for what's missing. Picking up the pieces. And what a fucking hot piece Draco has found in Teddy.

Nipple Clamps and Cinnamon Buns (E, 4.5k) - oof hands down one of the hottest Sirry fics I’ve ever read, kinky and tender with delicious wall sex, very creative sex toys and voyeur Remus, yes please!!!

Like Love Itself (E, 5.3k) - superb angsty Al/James that hits me right in the feels. The devotion! The yearning! A sexy, tender and melancholy look into the tragedy that is falling in love with the one you love the most, a story only made possible due to LQT’s heartfelt and delicate writing.

Albus has spent his whole life chasing after James. It never occurred to him James might want to be caught.

Oh my, I’m SO glad you like my little comments! And the fact you trust my judgement? I’m - 😳 I think that might be the best thing anyone has ever said to me.

Honestly, there are so many amazing writers here that I think it would be literally impossible to put together a list of my favourite fics! I do have a fic rec tag though: #saturnsuggests that is absolutely FULL of S-tier content - which is probably a good place to start?

I have the same problem with writers, there’s SO many incredible ones to choose from, but off the top of my head, here’s who I’m thinking about atm:

✖️ @/kingkatsuki -> Okay, so Jo has this way of writing that is alluring to a fault. She can make anything, ANYTHING, attractive in her works: the power she wields is honestly a little frightening. But, she doesn’t stop there, no. Jo can weave plot through her pieces like a mastermind, dropping in character and content like it’s nothing. She can bring you to your knees AND give you a new kink and she’ll do it all in the same damn fic.

Quick Recs: 1. Live Show [Parts 1-5] (Bakugo), 2. Spectrophilia (Bakugo).

✖️ @/mindninjax -> Marquie’s emotional exploration in her work is second to fucking none. Her writing is often achingly raw and contains a beautiful depth of emotion. There is no shying away where Marquie is concerned and I have unending respect for the way she will turn a character inside out and force them to bare their soul to her audience. She also writes one of my absolute favourite ‘Reader’ inserts!

Quick Recs: 1. Heaven on Earth [Parts 1 & 2] (Bakugo), 2. What Once was Mine (Bakugo/Kirishima).

✖️ @/mintmatcha -> I am deeply, deeply in love with Mint’s form and style. They have a way of weaving this beautiful sense of grounding reality into all of their works while still making them some of the funniest, warmest, hottest things I’ve ever read. It’s some of the best new-age dirty realism I’ve read honestly, and their all-rounded in their talent, mastering: angst, fluff and smut in their works.

Quick Recs: 1. Playground (Fukunaga), 2. Grumpy (Ukai).

✖️ @/littlesponge-fics -> Little Sponge will peel you out of reality, up-end your world and toss you into a completely new state of being. I’m in awe of their world building and the effortless way they inject characters into these new spaces, while doing both their character and the plot the upmost justice possible. Their sense of pace is flawless, always, and each fic is an absolute treasure trove of tiny details.

Dawn After Twilight: ok listen i only have one chapter of this posted rn, and I'm sure I'll come back to it eventually. BUT this is the midlink fic I always wanted to write. when I was in middle school I wrote a 25k word fic about midna and link reuniting after the game, but I never finished. I've always wanted to finish the story, so this is my attempt to do so. this fic is also why i started writing again in general outside of rp.

...Do Me a Favor: DONT LOOK AT ME this is just shameless ooc pwp I made because I love diluc and dream about him all the time. this fic isn't rlly good at all, but it's important to me bc I was able to let go of my pride and stopped being self critical (at least for the duration of time it took for me to post lol). maybe ill make a part 2 once I get better at writing spicy stuff.

untitled hinata/komaeda fic: i wrote a fic while i was on the psych ward a few years ago about hinata supporting komaeda while he gets some fucking help. i wrote it on scrap paper with a crayon, and I shared it with the other ladies on the ward. they were very supportive lol. maybe one day I will rewrite it and share.

Hello anon! I probably won't do a good job of answering this but I'll try 🥺 adding a cut cause it got kinda long 😳

For me, coming into a new fandom, what I tend to do is search by ship because it's the ship I really go for. Then under filters, I tend to sort based on rating and kudos/comments/bookmarks. This usually gives me the fics that people have read or enjoyed the most.

Once I have my pairing, I click Filters.

Clicking filters gives you this Lil menu on the right:

I circled sort by because I usually change this part to either kudos/comments/bookmarks. Image of what you see for the drop down menu.

Other things I tend to do is mess with the other filters. The marked green section is all the things you'd want to see in a fic. The marked red section is things you don't want to see in a fic.

There's also a more general search function near the bottom which you can just type whatever you're interested in finding.

I basically play with these by changing the rating, etc. or if there's a specific tag I want to read (ex: alpha/beta/omega dynamics) once you start typing, it'll pop up common tags:

The more you filter, the more precise the fics will be which typically means fewer results 🤔 you can basically play with the settings and get a feel for what fics you want and what fics are available in a fandom. You can even chose to only look at completed fics under More Options.

Also other alternatives!

If you want recs, you can always ask ppl in the fandom 😯 I've gotten a couple asking for specific ones so 😅

assorted thoughts about farewell my concubine which i watched the other day w my mom who like sparknotes’ed the movie for me as we went along. she’s my no fear shakespeare. anyway putting them on tumblr bc i find it better for archiving purposes. ty to max for talking the movie out w me after 😊

the whole "by nature i am a boy/girl" stuff reminded me a lot of the concept of sexual inversion which was like when old homophobes assigned men the action of "liking women" and vice versa. thus linking gay men w femininity bc they like men which also sees a trend just like in Society(tm). at the beginning everyone else is super happy when douzi gets the line right but there's still smth like hollow? about that scene to him. when he adopts the baby, taking on the traditionally feminine role of caretaker. and then at the end when they both get the line "wrong" but he like almost reclaims(?) himself as a boy. yeah. and ofc when leslie cheung says that thing about a good actor is androgynous in one of his later interviews

but then right after that he kills himself which could be bc he recognizes that their socially conservative society won’t allow them to be together or bc he wants to end his life w what he sees as a symbol of their love..? or maybe it just isn't more complicated than what xiaolou says earlier in the movie when dieyi asks why the concubine has to die: because that's the play!

that said it is very weird that people take that line to mean that playing the concubine made him confused about his gender and start liking men or whatever, which is smth my mom said and apparently a lot of articles online. like gd that Is the concept of sexual inversion which is obvi not how being gay works but also just narratively dieyi's feelings for xiaolou def started before he started playing that role

i also think there's a lot to do w fate, like when juxian leaves the brothel and the manager person (i know there has to be a better word for this but god i cannot think of it rn) gives the whole "once a whore always a whore" speech. and then in the end when juxian is villainized bc she used to be a sex worker

but then i’m also kind of confused bc when they first introduced the story of farewell my concubine (the opera) they said it means you only control your own fate...? hm.

also there was SOMEONE talking about karma earlier in the movie which i remembered when dieyi starts yelling about retribution at the denouement but i can’t remember who and in what context and it’s nagging at me

maybe the sword as a symbol of their struggles? it always appears at important moments in their life as almost this recurring character - douzi wanting to give shitou the sword when they were younger, when yuan and dieyi first meet (ew), when yuan and dieyi drunkenly recreate the opera scene and dieyi puts it to his neck, when xiaolou is being interrogated, i’m def forgetting some - but then it's interesting bc when xiaolou throws it into the fire, it's juxian who goes to retrieve it and returns it to xiaolou before hanging herself like she recognizes its significance

smth smth subversion bc xiaolou who is supposed to play the Man is the first to crack, whereas juxian never snitches on anyone even as she is forced into the spotlight

also think it’s weird that people don’t think dieyi’s love was reciprocated? xiaolou left juxian after her miscarriage to go find dieyi and slapped her for telling their shifu that dieyi was addicted to opium. there’s def more but those are two scenes that stick out to me

anyway i too am in love with leslie cheung and gong li. xiaolou kinnie moments

ALSO the behind the scenes vid was so fun and insightful. can’t believe the scene of juxian jumping into xiaolou’s arms and the scene of their shifu beating xiaolou as an adult were real wtf. and having to film the scene in front of the fire in 90 degF beijing weather in full opera costume omg

really appreciate the research that the actors put into their roles - like gong li reading books about sex workers in that era of china and leslie cheung’s extensive training for his accent and jingju such that they didn’t even have to use the doubles they’d hired

love love love all the callbacks throughout the movie - when xiaolou says “i’m the one to blame, hit me instead” like what douzi did at the beginning of the movie after he and laizi ran away (oh and laizi also. man.), when dieyi says the same thing to juxian and rejects smth she offers at her and xiaolou’s wedding party and after no one tells dieyi that xiaosi was supposed to replace him as concubine yu

the editing for the part where the eunuch rapes douzi was so chilling and so good - the pan to the painting and then the bell toll, and douzi staying silent when shitou asks him what happened. fuck.

also really enjoyed the scenes when dieyi and juxian would be petty towards each other for more shallow reasons lol

i have thoughts about xiaosi that have not really crystallized yet. passing down the torch gone wrong etc etc...
