Hey everyone, sorry for the prolonged inactivity. My health kind of collapsed for a while there and I’ve been dealing with housing problems due to unemployment. I don’t feel like that’s a good reason to let this blog go unattended considering the far worse conditions that people in Gaza are suffering while they continue to fundraise for not only themselves but others as well, so I won’t try to excuse myself. I will say for clarification that asks were closed here and on VGF and will remain closed for a while longer because tumblr has been eating them, so DMs are safer for people to contact me and not get lost or buried. I’ve been trying to keep up with a spreadsheet of all the campaigns that have reached out to me, but I still have catching up to do, especially since tumblr, GFM, and PayPal all continue to target Gaza fundraisers. I want to get both blogs up and running again soon and to try and find a way to contribute more to fundraisers, like art in exchange for donations, but I may still be slower going than I’d like to be. I’m going to try to start working my way through DMs to start with.

Catching up with VGF will take longer and I’m reconsidering a lot of things abt how I run it because I’m afraid of doing more harm than good with how ppl seemed to take me as a primary verification source rather than the sources I documented, and with some mistakes of my own where I took it at face value that a blog promoting, iirc, the Ayyad family campaign was run by that family, only to find out that the Ayyads did not know who was running the blog, which then pivoted to promoting a different, unverified fundraiser, which people claimed was verified based on my post that included that URL. I also don’t think it will be possible to regularly update the fundraiser amounts in the master posts anymore because of how many campaigns have reached out, so I’m rethinking that as well. Once I’m caught up on the campaigns that have reached out, I want to add more mods to the blog to help me, esp in case my health declines again. But doing that will mean losing access to DMs, so I’m apprehensive about relying only on asks again when so many asks were getting eaten and I was having problems with tumblr only displaying a certain number of them. If anyone knows a fix for the ask box, please let me know!

New intro post! How exciting! This is my celebration for reaching 25 followers so fast! Thank you all for your overwhelming support in this journey, it really has been a lot.

If you're new here, my boyfriend and I are both introjected from extremely problematic medias revolving around a very bad person that lived in real life. We are both from fictional medias, bit the person of which we introjected is very much real, and We've gotten a LOT of shit for it.

Spaces that claim to be safe spaces for systems-- or God forbid, safe spaces for *problematic* introjects and alters, tend to be rude or spiteful towards individuals who are factives from problematic sources.

I firmly believe this hateful stance comes from a place of not understanding, so I've created this blog to give people who don't understand a chance to talk and speak to us without losing their cool as we also stay anonymous on this blog. They're always nice until they find out who you are /hj . Since it's creation, the blog has since turned into a big place for problematic factives to just feel safe and seen. I'm beyond happy about this, and glad my blog can serve both purposes. More under the cut!

I can't tell you my name, but you can call me Anxiety. I'm the main mod and significantly less source connected/more source ashamed. I go by he/Anxiety with Anxiety being able to work in place of either a name or a pronoun. Unless the host is helping out with something, anything that isn't labeled comes from me. I'm the only one out of the two of us with the physical ability to type so when he posts something, it's a little special occasion and deserves a label.

The Guy She Was Interested In Wasn't A Guy At All - aka green lesbian manga. Aka best highschool romance lesbian manga I have read this year. A gyaru meets an edgy "guy" at a music store, falls for him, realizes he's actually the girl that sits next to her in class, and they fall in love. There's way more to it than that. The art is also amazing!! And it's very heavily music themed. 100000/10 please read if you havent

Now onto my second try of writing an essay about German bread, because Tumblr deleted the first one :(

First of all, bread is a very integral part of German culture. We have more kinds of bread (over 3,200) and more bakeries than most other countries and our bread culture is party of the UNESCO heritage list.

Bread is traditionally eaten in the morning and on breaks ("breakbread" is the term for anything you eat in work/school breaks"), also in the evening ("evening bread" is also the term for everything you eat at dinner). You also sometimes eat bread for lunch, especially together with soups or sausages.

So now onto the ✨History✨

Germany was not the country we know to day until unification started in the 19th century, but rather a cluster of small kingdoms and duchies, all with their own culture, dialect and... bread.

This federal trend continued throughout history- Germany got more and more unified but until today we have 16 federal states, which are also segmented in smaller regions, with their own dialect, culture and food.

Since Germany doesn't have that much sunshine (as opposed to France eg), wheat didn't really thrive here but rye and spelt did!

Bread served as nourishment for the often cold and harsh weather for farmers and also nobles, which is why the heftier and heartier the bread was the better. And we still make bread this way: "sourdough bread made with rye, spelt and wheat flours and packed with grains and seeds." (source at bottom)

Also, something I only learned today is that this trend never really spread through Europe that much! And German settlers apparently also didn't bring it to America because as far as I know, this thing is called bread:

Today every supermarket (especially by chains like Aldi, Rewe, Edeka, Lidl, Netto etc you get it) have a local bakery in the front of their store.

They not only sell bread, but usually also pastries and ✨pretzels✨.

A few days ago I watched this movie, ひみつのなっちゃん, with some friends. I'd never heard of it before- another friend who likes Takito Kenichi, who plays one of the main characters (pictured above) was trying to find subtitles and I scrounged Japanese subs off a priv tracker I'm on. So then I got some other friends to watch with meee and IT WAS SO OOOOOO GOOOOOOOOOD I WANNA SHOUT FROM THE ROOFTOPS HOW GOOD IT IS!!! AAAAA

The gist of the drama is that the titular Nacchan passes away (from natural causes). Nacchan owned a gay/drag bar and Nacchan's friends- Virgin-neesan (pictured above) (retired from drag performing, which is a source of interrelationship & inner conflict throughout the film), Moririn (an employee of Nacchan's bar, deeply indebted to Nacchan) and Zubuko-chan (a very popular TV personality who plays up camp drag melodrama for comedy).

While trying to get Nacchan's affairs in order, the three come to the realization they know nothing about Nacchan's personal life outside the gay/drag community- as Virgin says, "I know Nacchan's taste in men and fetishes. That's it." They suddenly panic- what if nacchan isn't even out to family? What if family goes to Nacchan's apartment to clear things out and finds out their son was a drag queen deeply involved in the LGBTQ+ community? Of course, after breaking into Nacchan's apartment to steal away anything incriminating, Nacchan's mother shows up, and a web of slapdash lies has them all invited to the funeral in rural Gifu. CUE ROAD TRIP HIJINKS

Actually, it ended up being an extremely, extremely touching film about community, the highs and the lows and the ultimate need for understanding and acceptance and solidarity, about being closeted, about the personal costs of the closet and of coming out, and also about not making assumptions lol. It was so so so so sweet... I really recommend it if you can understand Japanese enough for it........ (HMU if you want subs)

ANYWAY THIS POST WAS MEANT TO BE ABOUT TAKITO KENICHI BEING STYLED WONDERFULLY, Virgin-neesan is SO stylish in every scene- unlike Moririn and Zubuko, Virgin is the only one that never mascs up to downplay gender and sexuality around others who might not take too kindly. None of the characters ever outright state their identities-- the word drag queen is used, but we don't have anyone saying definitively what their gender or sexuality is, and Japanese language can be much more vague about referencing gender than English, there's no "she" or "he" or "them" to go off-- but i feel the fact Virgin dresses a specific way at all times says a lot, or at least leaves ME with a very certain impression that I enjoy.

I wish there were extended cuts of certain outfits cus some of Virgin's cutest are just barely visible in the frames!!!!

I assume cat litter isnt good for composting if you’re planning to use the soil to eventually grow foods, but otherwise is it a good way to sustainably get rid of cat waste? Some sources say its totally fine (for the type of litter I use, which is crushed unscented walnut shells) others say that cat waste will attract pests more and take a very long time to decompose on top of being more unsanitary than the average compost pile.

as far as fandom oriented stuff specifically... unfortunately most of my sources tend to be more about the production and media-crit side of things. so while I'll definitely recommend Animation Obsessive as a throughly global animation column which has taught me tons about world animation, they don't tend to cover fan culture as much.

obvs as far as (largely western) media fandom goes you've got the fanlore wiki, though it's as much a catalogue of long-forgotten livejournal squabbles as anything, so ymmv. its remit is the fic/zine-oriented media fandom, and the old school scifi-fan subculture represented by worldcon and similar conventions - basically everything that descends from star trek fans. (worldcon itself also tends to have panels about scifi fandom in xyz country, but of course that's a pretty expensive way to research stuff. that said, a lot of the panels at this year's glasgow worldcon were filmed - not sure if they're on the public internet or if it's ticket holders only, but if you can get in, it might be worth downloading some panels on the scifi of this or that country.)

honestly printed media may be your friend here too. I'll need to dig it up later when I'm at my computer, but i recall coming across a small publisher that puts out booklets of stuff like convention reports - a lot of which is likely to be very dry but you might find some nuggets of interest that doesn't make it online. you might also be able to find archives of old hobby magazines, which was where we went to partake in the vice of posting before the web was invented - this is particularly relevant to hobbies like TTRPGs or wargaming.

I'd certainly be interested if anyone else has answers to this question. there's quite a bit of writing about Japanese otaku either in English or in translation, but like anon and ash above, I also don't really know where to go to learn more about the nerd subcultures of other countries. maybe some friends/followers will know? please do hmu if you have any good recs for writing on this kind of subject!!

Are there any blogs you recommend that take your kind of media otaku approach but to works from other countries? I want to learn, like, the cultural impact of the Untamed on the Chinese slash scene, or what the most influential stories are in Russian webfic, or ~anything about media in other big nations like Indonesia, Pakistan, Nigeria, Brazil... It sometimes feels like there's a whole world of media and fan engagement with it that I'm missing out on, and I appreciate the windows into that your posts sometimes offer.

I am glad you enjoy my writings <3 And honestly, I don't know if I know of any? I know of other Japanese sources, obviously, and I absolutely have, surely, at times read individual works about this or that topic in China or that French wave in the 70's. But I don't think a specific person/blog that sort of does that as a core topic (as opposed to one off's or books or w/e) has ever made its way into my Core Blog Rotation or anything (it is quite a crammed blog rotation!)

Which is sad, and probably primarily a product of my own niche focus - such good writers are out there. Anyone on the feed have an "Ash but for Korean Webtoons" rec out there? @canmom Is probably the most likely person to know someone here, if they feel like blogging more on niche cultural topics than they already do. You do shit tons of research on global animation - I know most of that is more "official" sources but you might have good recs?

(It isn't 100% the same vibe, more "current artists" than "cultural impact", but the impeccable Concrete Avalanche does the best EL writing on the Chinese indie music scene if that is your thing. Something closer to what you want if a bit more political on the Chinese side was Chaoyang Trap, but they closed shop in 2023 - good archives though!)
