Fanfic Author Never Have I Ever

Well, I have shared some ideas about a similar premise here, but I've definitely never written it.

If I were to write something like this, I'd probably have Armin being a lot more lenient with the Paradisians. The plot would revolve around Armin finally deciding to give up on Marley and join the Paradisians. I know a lot of people want to see him commit war crimes (and don't get me wrong, he would), but I think a character with Armin's moral compass would snap when faced with the blatant injustice of Eldian discrimination.

As for Annie, I'd keep her backstory similar: her father wants her to join the Military Police to benefit himself. Still, I think she'd be more open to developing friendships in this scenario as she is not actively betraying anybody. She and Armin would become friends and slowly through time she'd figure out something was off about him and his mysterious friends (as I believe Armin would spend more time with RB than Annie does in canon) and she'd go into sleuth mode.

After Trost, and the revelation of Eren, she'd put two and two together and confront him. Armin would fight her off and try to silence her, revealing that he's a lot more martially inclined than he let on (as he's been trained for years in this AU and also has the benefit of healing quickly). Ultimately though, he wouldn't be able to go through with Marco-ing her as he has a) developed feelings for her and b) has become unconvinced of the supposed evilness of the Paradisians. Then, they'd devise a plan together to uncover the monarchy's secrets and make the public aware of the truth.

P.S. Sooo, there's also the problem of which Titan Armin would get, as Bertolt has the Colossus and is Armin's ally in this. My friend @midnightlighthowlite has a little project where the third member of the titan trio is Pieck instead, and, as much as I loooooove this possibility, to propose something different I say: I'd give Armin the Female. Knowing me, I'd probably turn it into a whole theme about gender identity, toxic masculinity and trans issues too, by having Armin endure bullying back home bc he was chosen for the "girl" titan. I'd have him experience gender dysphoria (either when transformed or when in his regular body depending on where I took the story) and struggle with his presentation in general. Obviously, this would be resolved by Armin embracing his feminine side, either by deciding he's some flavour of trans or by accepting that body parts are gender neutral.

based on everything I've read about the classic scholar-gentleman ideal, Nie Huaisang being more interesting in poetry, painting, and literature to the point of neglecting swordsmanship and other pursuits wouldn't be seen as feminine, it would be seen as uneducated

like nonbinary Nie Huaisang is cool but I almost always see it from white American fans and there may be a reason for that. I still enjoy seeing him as trans or nb and I want to read and write more of it but that's separate from the poetry and fans and stuff. and like. pushing European gender ideals on Chinese fantasy is significantly less cool.

I think the closer comparison to modern America would be him choosing to get a GED and embrace the unemployed starving artist aesthetic from the comfort of his brother's basement while Nie Mingjue yells at him about how he should've stuck out for the high school diploma and how he has a college fund and he should use it to go to college instead of just ignoring its existence, even if he decides to go after an art degree instead of one more related to the family business. like Mingjue wouldn't be happy about it but at least then his little brother would be able to get a job he likes that actually lets him support himself

but yeah I like nb Huaisang but I think more white authors should ask themselves why they're making him nb. projection onto a favorite character? nice. bc he fits a European mode of femininity? not nice. both? proceed with caution.

I think also a character more likely to be seen as nb in-universe based on interests and personality is cql's version of Mianmian? bc she seems like a woman with a more traditionally masculine education and a preference for less domestic tasks, based on her position in the jin sect and her interactions with her husband.

hey!! hope you’re doing well! i’m the person who wrote the narnia fic “first love, never die” and i just wanted to recommend a few fics that inspired me and made me INSANE. after ur comment i just. kept thinking “wow zannolin would probably love those fics i read last year….” so eventually i caved and here i am

number one for peter ptsd: “golden child, lion boy” by theandrogynousdragon . WHEN I TELL YOU I CRIED. you would love it, he’s so fucked up and full of anger and angst and suffering. the concepts in this fic made me ILL. oh god… i just reread it and i wanna read it again already i feel sick i feel crazy

next, a longer fic that’s still not too long with a similar past and present format to mine, with more caspeter and !!!!!!! really good sibling interactions and grief. “keep the faith” by adrianicsea . i’m gonna be ill. it’s super super good and beautiful and the sequel is excellent too and edmund-centric. also edmund is trans and that is explored and !! so good. it’s an angsty character-study disguised as a caspeter fic. the author has a few other posted narnia fics but i don’t think ive read all of them yet…. but i bet they are amazing. definitely recommend checking them out.

and finally we got “our battle cry shall be: ‘at least our leader means well’” by paperclipbitch . mainly caspian-centric, got some caspeter, and goes thru caspian’s life and angst and issues. also deals with the bitterness between caspian and peter and explores their characters. very good

AHHH LIN!!! ok ok uhhhh. this is cheating a little bit bc two of these are series but they really are so special to me, i can't possibly pick just one chapter/installment from either of them. anyways, here are five of my favorites, not necessarily in order (edit: why the FUCK was this so hard???):

Noble Blood - stsg x gn reader; jjk dragon rider au. by word count, this is the longest multichap fic i've ever posted. it's really niche, since it's 1.) a reader insert, 2.) a poly ship, & 3.) a high fantasy AU, but it one of my favorite things i've ever written in my life, and i've been writing (fic & original writing) for over half my life.

Transfem Gojo - trans woman gojo satoru x gn reader. i've always loved playing around with characters' genders and sexualities, which like... there's definitely some projection happening there, but we don't need to talk about that. i also didn't expect the concept to turn into a whole series, but it has, and honestly i couldn't be happier about it, especially when it brought one of my favorite people into my life ( @dr-runs-with-scissors ily) and when i see how much other people love her, even if it's a very small group. again, a very niche concept, but i love it.

Too Much - kocho shinobu x gn autistic reader; shinobu helps reader through a meltdown. this fic was a gift for red ( @redlikerozez), actually! i really like this one bc, as someone who is autistic, it fulfilled a very specific hole in the reader insert space (at least in my experience). it was also nice to write for a character i hadn't yet written for, who is also a female characters and a character that generally has less fic written about her!

Lucky Shot - outlaw geto suguru & fem reader; platonic w/ open ending; gun violence, blood/injury, minor character death. i really liked all the entries i did for riley's collab, but this one is probably my favorite of the three! it was also my first geto fic that didn't include gojo.

Day Off - maki & gn reader; you spend the day at the arcade. this fic is the only one i've ever written based on a request (for @/yuutito), but it was so much fun to write! maki deserves more fics and writing something platonic is always nice.

Hey, so thanks for asking, this is a great question.

The short answer is that it's a little bit of both!

Obviously, gender divergence as a concept is a thing that Early June plays with heavily, but it's also a concept that's sort of evolved with the work itself. The issue of it being a serial work is that sometimes, as time goes on, my views become more nuanced or solid in a way that is contradicted by earlier segments in the fic (see my current opinions about transmasc Roxy). When it comes to things like the Striders, the things that change about them and their genders are their experiences! Dove chooses womanhood in active spite of the toxic masculinity that Bro enforced upon her, Davepeta fuses with Nepeta to create some sort of Ideal Self, and Dave is still figuring stuff out about himself, which of course goes for all of them! They're sixteen right now, and will have a lot of time to change and work on their identities as they grow older.

When June starts being confronted by different versions of herself with different genders (i.e. June Crocker and GT), she starts getting a little bit worked up, partially because she's built up her identity as a solid trans woman up in her mind pretty heavily at this point. She literally had yet another version of her predestine her gender and then Tell Her That's What She Did!

And her experiences with being reluctant to explore further stems from

A fairly common (in my experience at least) thing among trans and queer people in general to stake yourself Very Hard to your identity as a defensive reflex. When the world is constantly telling you to do One Thing (for example, Not be a trans woman), allowing any nuance in can at times feel like a concession to those authorities. At the same time it can be a defensive measure in order to better assimilate into a rigid structure of gender and sexuality (like Rose was grappling with in Was That All)

She keeps getting pushed on by knowledge of all these different identities and she's getting a little bit ticked off by what she feels like as everyone pushing her around (and in GT's case, because he's a bit of an asshole, actually pushing her around.)

She just needs some time to maybe explore with these ideas! Relaxing a bit and allowing herself to explore is going to come with time! It's not a massive hurdle or some character flaw she needs to overcome, it's just a bit more growing up to do.

Also, pulling back the curtain a bit, in June's case the gender divergence is partially a result of bringing @gendertrickster onto the writing team (I'll lob this to her to add anything else). We have somewhat different views on Egbert's gender, and I was pretty rigid at the start because, on a personal level, I was also dealing with similar stuff in My gender.

Alpha June is still and always will be transfem, they'll probably just be exploring some more fluidity as time passes and they grow older.

books/comics/written media:

fake dates and mooncakes by sher lee: fake dating (obv) premise between a cooking boy and a rich heir! book that made me realized im honestly just not that interested in ya romance anymore LMFAO. pretty sweet and a decent read, but landed more heavily on the expository end of uhh i guess diaspora fiction? than i really prefer. i think i picked this up bc the author got mega cancelled on tyk twitter lol??

bird by bird by anne lammott: book about how to write. i love to read about how people do stuff :3 some of the advice applies pretty universally to creative efforts i think.. made me want to write more too

john dies at the end by jason pargin: DNF. comic/horror about this loser guy who discovers stuff. sigh i tried so hard to like this book its supposed to be pretty 'mecore'...talked about this with alena a bunch but its like hm... i know the sort of casual offensiveness sort of goes in hand with being poor and white and in the midwest and i appreciate how its like that creates its own doomed narrative or whatever. but also i feel like the protagonist would call me slurs or something. also the lowgrade but pervasive orientalism is kinda offputting. probably fun for some other guy! i did enjoy the horror elements though

the goldfinch by donna tartt: literary coming of age about a boys relationship with a painting (the goldfinch). also he flops a lot and its sort of homoerotic i guess? a movie was made of it. so something to note is that ive had this book out on loan since literally december. neil kept on being like hey man just stop reading it LMFAO. thoughts cp'ed from discord:

the bodyguard by katherine center: romance novel about a woman bodyguard who lives for her job. fresh from a breakup, shes given a new undercover assignment with a handsome actor, recently withdrawn from society. will they be able to break each others' shells....? my mom recommended this to me LMFAO we kind of have different tastes in romance.. ive read a book by this author before i think her platonic scenes are very strong? i wish there had been a couple more of those. also i like how she always includes a life affirming section at the end about how important it is for us to open ourselves up to love etc etc cute but not especially memorable

kiss quotient by helen hoang: (reread) a shy, autistic econometrician decides that she needs to get better at sex, and so hires an escort. helen hoang is one of my faavorite romance authors i really enjoyed this reread although i kinda forgot that both leads say, think and do some pretty embarrassing things. but you know a little embarrassment is endearing and all that.. i still prefer her other book (the bride test) but this one is pretty good too. vivid characters 👍

sisters of dorley hall by alyson greaves: web fiction - a trans woman infiltrates a secret force-feminization program. ok im just cp'ing my thoughts from discord again but i enjoyed it a lot:

my thoughts are that the first like, third? is really really good. it like idk takes the very real trans fears of like discovery and passing and all that and fictionalizes them a bit. but like its still grounded and swag. sooo tense once The Reveal happens n things w steph are pretty normal it gets kinda meandering? which i dont really mind bc i love interpersonal drama even if i miss how tense and scary it was. but also theres only like two major plot threads going on rn and theyre both pretty slowburn. a timeskip would probably benefit tbh like the point rn is kinda like. the 7 year meteor? yeah sorry

like it used to be sort of psychological thriller? and now its sort of more character focus and also surprisingly fluffy.. im surprised that the author has said they have a complete outline bc it doesnt feel very focused atm? but also like i suppose things are snowballing a bit re: revealing the sisters to the outside world

an unauthorized fan treatise by lauren james: a fangirl trying to prove her rpf ship is real uncovers a greater conspiracy. to me if something is able to capture a specific age/vibe from the internet its automatically pretty good. however more and more people are learning how to do that so maybe i should change my standards... i was never involved in All That re: rpf or even fandoms of live action shows until kamen rider? but like i definitely knew people in hs that were sort of like this LMFAO so it felt very familiar. i appreciate the author trying to make that $$ but i dont know if it really needs an expansion/sequel.. the ending is better off with some ambiguity imo

impossible us by sarah lotz: literary romance? a man and a woman fall in love online, but encounter difficulties when they try to meet. ok im just pasting my thoughts here again (spoilers btw):

xo kitty: kitty goes to a school to connect with her online boyfriend, but all is not well. yall this was not good. i guess my standards shouldnt have been that high but to all the boys ive loved before was so cute!! (havent watched/read the others). but like.. the writing was bad and the main actress just wasnt very sympathetic or charming? characters waste time saying "i can explain" until time runs out for them to actually explain, additional (and nonsensical) romance plots are added for no reason, and the male lead isnt even that hot. sorry. also kitty deciding to move to korea to connect with her mom but not bothering to learn a speck of korean and insisting that everyone else speak to her in english really sucks honestly. not even my mom liked it so thats how you know its bad 👎

succession season 1: yesss succession. greg is my favorite cant wait to see him become evil. makes me stressed

shin kamen rider (hideaki anno): reboot of the first kamen rider by the guy who made evangelion. this guy kinda makes the same thing over and over but it looked sick as hell so i wasnt complaining. like stella obstinaterixatrix said, kinda more introspective or even insular to the point of kinda ignoring the usual kr theme of justice but it was still very fun :3 kinda want to watch the original now

ready player one (movie): my parents made me watch this movie. aggressively mediocre.

kamen rider revice and live and evil and demons: pretty fun if you have the disease that makes you think revice is good, but mostly made me miss revice. i think they should have gone more into the clone thing but i always think that so

kamen rider juuga vs kamen rider olteca: two-parter special for kr revice. i forgot what happened in this pretty much immediately after but karizaki was hot

roman holiday: a princess touring in rome escapes her duties for a day, and meets a dashing young reporter. classic romance!! i actually liked this so so much like it actually is very romantic and funny and like deserves the hype. didnt expect it to be in black and white even so audrey hepburn is really hot. (spoilers) more romances should have bittersweet endings though like it hit

kamen rider ryuki: a young man is inducted into a battle royale between those fighting for their deepest wishes, and decides to try and stop the rider battle once and for all. hey guys ryuki is so fucking good for those who have watched madoka magica a lot of it is very heavily based off of/inspired by ryuki! but ryuki does it better. pretty much The kamen rider has so much to say about justice and love and what it means to be a hero and sacrifice and *runs out of air and falls over* also it made me cry. if you ever try kamen rider try this one <3

EDIT OH i forgot about across the spiderverse 100/10 obviously groundbreaking in animation nice take on generational trauma and also like the nature of adaptation and being in a multimedia comics franchise and all that. really hope the sequel doesnt get crunched too bad. oh but copaganda not great 99/10

twisted wonderland: gacha game where random disney villains are bishie high schoolers instead. ill play chapter 3 sometime soon i swear. gameplay is terrible as with most gacha games but the characters are cute? i feel terrible guilt for being involved with a disney franchise. honestly pretty compelling character writing sometimes though sorry

apico: stardew-like about raising bees (in beta). sooooo cute and the devs obv care about bees a lot in real life. the gameplay loop + breeding systems are a little bit punishing right now though i really hope it gets adjusted. took over my life during finals (woops) and i got like half the bees and then burnt out. multiplayer is fun though!

legend of zelda tears of the kingdom: the next zelda game, now featuring building + vertical elements. yeah this took over my life for two months like it did for a bunch of other people i finished the main story a couple days ago! i might go back to do a couple more of the shrine puzzles, but other than that i think im done. LOVE the vertical elements and also all the little sidequests there are to do and how the world has changed since botw. dragons tears was really good and OMG PROVING GROUNDS. would be a 10/10 if zelda was the protag stop damseling her you guys cmon

paper mario origami king: newest paper mario game, which is a spinoff of the main series where theyre all paper (duh). im about halfway through this, i think? tried it out because of the dunkey video lol and also bc it was free at my library. very charming and inventive, has a really good soundtrack and really funny writing! i know the gameplay was controversial, but im enjoying it a lot (and theres a lot of room for error). might 100% it

it feels like this month i tried a lot of things that i didnt really like LMAO. also a lot of romance. im very happy about finally finishing the goldfinch! the only holdout on my libby is slaughterhouse 5 :P i did find some things that i really liked though! anyways this one feels a bit more scattered but if you got to the ending, congratulations! thanks for reading :3

What's the first fandom you ever written for? Are you still into the fandom in question?

I think the first fandom I've ever seriously written for is Star Wars in the previously mentioned abominable middle school fics. A few of our transgressions include: Cringey First Person POV, all of the characters were horribly OOC, the foundation was built on a since been proven very false theory I stopped believing in halfway through writing them, the COPIOUS Hamilton references (no I'm not kidding), and arguably the worst of all... crafting the perfect lesbian original character and not only making her a pawn for male character development, but we made her straight, blinded by our heteronormativity...

Since then my friend/co author came out as gay and trans masc and I came out as bisexual. That friend is on Tumblr but I'm not tagging them, I bear the brunt of this burden alone.

But I don't regret writing them. It was a time of unity and peace and it made middle school bearable. I fondly cherish those memories of meeting up on the Google Doc after school every day for hours and then printing all three of those suckers off to carry in my backpack to show my friends since I was so proud of our work. Plus those were my first corruption arc fics, a trope most of my writing is built upon nowadays.

And yes, I still am into Star Wars, have been since I was four. Dude, my roommate and I are dressing as Luke and Leia to meet Hayden fucking Christensen in a month for the local Fan Expo, I sure hope I'm still into it! My first ever real blorbo and I get to meet him with my roommate!!

Thing is, those were Sequel Fics and my character arc has made me vastly favor the Prequels, which were always my favorites as a kid. I was a Prequels Baby, born while they were coming out. Like, I don't hate the Sequels like a lot of people do, but those bad boys are flaaaawed. Rise of Skywalker is probably far and away my least favorite of any of the movies, also partially bc I saw it with my ex and that whole saga was an ordeal and a half... so from a certain point of view (ha), I'm not really super into the fandom of the Sequels as I once was.

Revenge of the Sith and Return of the Jedi will always be superior to me.

Fata morgana.*  - teen/6k, pst s9 finale. very bela centric and i love it, she finds cas looking for dean in hell.

Redemption Road -misc/600+k. an incredibly long fic from a collaborative writing group back in the day. canon divergent from the end of s6 on, has a cool take on godstiel and the leviathans, as well as the lovecratian mythos connection. ngl when i reread it i only made it about 28% in but imo the casual reader can actually stop around there, the rest concerns a lovecraftian apocalypse that is still good (i think i don’t remember it very well) but not required to enjoy the first half. if you prefer i have an ebook version i can send you on gdrive.

Someone Who's Feeling For Me* - mature/45k, s12. they run into lisa braeden and dean thinks cas is into her while cas thinks dean still likes her. treats lisa way better than the show ever did and the miscommunication is pretty funny rather than annoying.

a turn of the earth - mature/95k. time travel fic where cas from s10 keeps showing up in deans life from a few years before s1 to right before the hellhounds take his soul.  slow burn, good character study, and at one point cas punches the dad in the face and it rules.

On the Wings of War - teen/85k, canon divergent s5. dean accidentally becomes the Horseman of War. plays fun, fast and loose with biblical lore, michael has some rights.

Named - mature/95k, alternate s5. EXTREMELY blasphemous in a fun sexy way. manages to predict metatron almost to a T. there’s one major character death and its literally jesus christ, everyone is very sad about it and it sets the rest of the story rolling. an alternate interpretation of cas’ mission to raise dean from hell which had me on the floor. ngl its kind of misogynistic at points, but its from 2010 and tracks with late oughts-2010 spn (sorry anna the author did you dirty here:/).

The Girlfriend Experience - explicit/15k. uhhh i don’t normally rec or even read smutty stuff unless someone i know is specifically asking for it but this has stuff like sam trying to be a good ally and dean thinking holding hands with cas is ‘kinda gay :/’ minutes after having gay sex with him.

i crippled your heart a hundred times - explicit/19k, s8. cas confesses his feelings and dean spends a long time getting his head out of his ass about it. truly hits different after the actual confession, despite being written six years early it feels like its actually what could have gone down more or less if the writers weren’t talentless demons who hate us.

My Roots Take Flight** - mature/125k. reverse au where cas is a hunter and dean’s an angel...OR IS IT???? an alternate retelling of s4. tw for briefly being set in a psychiatric hospital/the hospital being mentioned somewhat frequently throughout the fic, plus more references to torture in hell and heaven than usual.

The One Thing You Can't Lose* - teen/4k.you know those posts about how cas is a super-strong super-tough ancient warrior but he just lets dean tug him around because he likes it? thats it thats the fic.

Hands, From Which All Things Are Built - teen/14k, post s8′s ‘goodbye stranger.’ cas is on the run with the angel tablet but keeps in touch with sam and dean by text, he and dean still manage to be terrible at Actual communication.

Autrement, Danger - or, The Account of an Exceedingly Long Day - mature/30k, post s11. a monster that takes the appearance of your soulmate leads to some wild miscommunications and dealing with years of repression, also dean gets to see cas’ true form which is always cool. tw for non-graphic mentions of underage sexual assault/sex work.

Down to Agincourt - mature/explicit/900++++k, endverse continuation. endverse!cas survives his encounter with lucifer and discovers another time-displaced dean from s7. i’ve only read the two of four parts but its really good, veeeeery slow burn, has a lot of fun oc’s and takes a rather surprising but (imo) entertaining and intriguing turn into Hellenic history and mythology. usual tw’s for endverse/endverse!cas but nothing graphic, it’s actually pretty light-hearted (relatively speaking of course).

Nothing Equals the Splendor** - explicit/8k, THEE finale fix it fic you’ve been waiting for! posits that the entire final episode was just a (very bad and lame) djinn’s vision.

like moses and batman and james dean - explicit/31k, post s8. explores dean’s trauma and internalized homophoba from his technically canon experience with sex work and its impact on his relationship with cas. the sex work itself isn’t really shown in any detail but it’s still a relatively heavy fic.

Crazy Diamonds - explicit/25k, s4/alternate s14. fresh-out-of-hell dean and dean from 10 years in the future are displaced from time and sent to each other’s present.

where the weeds take root - explicit/30k. au where the men of letters kick them out of the bunker and they accidentally move out into the country, get over their codependence and semi retire. featuring chicken coop building, sam volunteering at a dog shelter, gardening, and blissfully mundane domesticity.

No Resting Place - teen/6k. djinn dream fic, switches back and forth between cas’ dream of being married to dean and retired from hunting to the aftermath when he wakes up. tw for brief mention of suicide since, y’know, djinn dream.

any port in a storm - mature/52k. post s8 finale. cas and dean have to pose as a couple going through a rough patch for a case and actually deal with their emotional baggage, cas struggles with being human and metatron is up to stuff.

The Thirty-Six Questions That Lead to Love* - mature/13k. claire has dean and cas pretend to be her gay dads for a case and they play the titular 36 question game, get mistaken for swingers, and birdwatch, among other things.

This sounds so bitter reading through it again lol but these are just my personal thoughts

I’m almost through the book now and I feel so let down idk. Really just want to drop the book now bc of the “Reveal” that Dior isn’t a guy. At first it made me think that he’s trans bc Gabriel takes off his clothes and sees that he binds and I was so overjoyed bc I really saw myself in this character the whole book long and now he’s fucking trans too??? Hell I really thought I’d get rep, but from now on he’s are addressed with she/her. Like it’s not even considered but fine I should stop getting my hopes up to have representation in media.

And just to make it clear I don’t have a problem with a character being female lmfao. I just felt thrown under the bus in the moment bc it doesnt even appear to be a possibility that a person who cross dresses from their assigned gender at birth could be trans.

This is probably just me projecting on the character but idk just made me feel sad to read that, I really liked the book and it’s not like this is such a terrible writing decision that it’s ruined now. But it reminds me of so much I’ve heard irl about how people see trans people that it kinda did ruin the escapism of the book for me at least.

And I mean this is normal that books don’t have trans characters so I imagine what it would be like for a trans character to be in this world. Yeah I think I got an answer to that just now from the book itself.

And this is not me being angry or offended at the author it’s their decision how to write the world and characters. And if you still like the book that’s also cool with me obviously. I personally just didn’t felt good reading it it made me really uncomfortable and self aware.

Maybe I’ll pick it up again in a few months but I don’t think I want to read it anymore rn

oh my goddd yes i love this question so much!!! i actually have plans to write frozen pines as a ~real novel~ someday (just for my own benefit or maybe it'll be a free e-book fjksjd) which would only focus on asa's generation rather than rosie or caroline. they would still be in it – caroline more so – but it wouldn't be a generational thing like it happened to be in sims. and i would MAJORLY cut back on subplots and side characters. simblr gives me the freedom to write about a lot of different things at once, but in a more traditional format, i would not want to force people to remember 100 different people doing 100 different things at once lmao. some of those changes would be:

like you said: simplifying rosie's family. probably getting rid of the older twins, michael and jack, altogether, and getting rid of isaac too (sorry). it would just be owen, and he would be rosie's son rather than technically being her brother. this whole generation of characters would hardly be in the story at all so i want to keep it as simple as i possibly can.

most of caroline's story would stay the same, but it would only be alluded to in conversation; we wouldn't see any of it first hand. i like the idea of slowly revealing that caroline has been seeing weird visions all along, but we're seeing things through asa's eyes, so it's a little more difficult to find out about it.

as much as it pains me to say: i would have to cut out elaine. i love her SO much, but she doesn't have much bearing on the paranormal aspect of frozen pines. meaning that, in a story without all the subplots, she wouldn't have much purpose :( but i actually want to combine some of her character elements in with jada's character so elaine won't be lost entirely.

casper will still exist, but won't be a fleshed out character in any substantial way. he's just the stepbrother on the outskirts who shows up every once in a while to burp, drink milk from the carton, and tease his little brother about crushes, lol.

then if i ever planned on publishing it as a real book, like for real for real, i would probably have to make some characters straight tbh 😭 i don’t think the publishing world is ready for lesbian/bi grandmas, lesbian/bi moms, and a gay son SKDKJ i would absolutely keep asa’s (and thereby finn’s) sexualities the same, and stevie would still be trans, but i might have to replace beth and isa with male counterparts... but again, that would only be for marketing purposes, which i don’t think is ever going to happen bc i don’t plan on being a ~real~, profitable author.

i think that's it for major changes. as you can see, i want to seriously reign in the number of characters who i focus on. my character-driven writing style doesn't always translate well to paper 🥲

3. What are some tropes or details that you think are very characteristic of your fics?

insecurity is a big one i’d say. it’s one of my favorite topics to read about in fics too so naturally it made its way into my writing. we’re not gonna look too deeply into how that relates to my own insecurities and journey into learning to love myself, shhhh. crying is also a theme too, because i want my characters to suffer but i also want them to be able to let it out, give them that release shdjfg

as for smut specific details, crying is once again a thing?? ok sure 😅 and overstimulation too, even in the v first smut i ever wrote (your body’s a tether), though the first time i properly went in on that was for eat bathe (make) love where the entire second and third chapter pete is just overstimulated to hell and back. sorry buddy sdbhf

also — im still learning how to write bdsm and kinda chickened out of realllly exploring it for my past fics, so i just kinda stuck to choking and spanking for most of my vp sex scenes, and in the case of intrinsically i actually kind of regret that (the spanking especially, in hindsight i just don’t think it fits the tone and what the characters would do / need right then) 

13. Are there any tropes you used to like but don’t anymore?

ooooh shit i actually rly need to think about this one. idk does abo count? shdnjfk i used to read it sort of almost accidentally, not really realizing what i was getting into with that till much later, back when i used to read a lot of sterek fanfiction (and some destiel too). very occasionally an author will do a lot of legwork with worldbuilding and sell me on it for that fic specifically, but in general i havent been into abo or mpreg themes (not counting a ftm trans character in that — the thing i dislike reading is mpreg that can’t occur irl) for a few years now.

i also used to be more into aus that had nothing to do w canon, like high school aus and (for stuff like merlin) modern aus, which is funny bc i wrote a college au and am now writing a historical au w luna, but i never said i wasn’t a hypocrite hdnjgh — but yeah nowadays i almost exclusively read canon-compliant, canon-divergent, or post-canon fics. i came here for these characters in this setting usually, so then that’s what i seek more of 🤷‍♀️

41. Link a fic that made you think, “Wow, I want to write like that.”

oooh there are MANY. there are some authors whose writing styles have my brain zooming with envy but mostly just so much appreciation and enjoyment. some of my very favorites tend to be angsty fics, and angst is just my go to vibe and genre to read, so while i have many favorites that are more happy or humorous, i'm going to specifically shout out two of the angstiest pete-centric ones that made my chest ache with emotion as i read them: milk teeth by constitutiondumpstat; and only the heart knows. by evashougouki (i still havent gotten around to their recent 20k words pete fic nothing. that i just know is going to break me so good. i rly need to get on that asap but consider this a pre-emptive shoutout to that for probably changing my brain chemistry once i read it as well)

so instead i’ll post a slightly redacted snippet from the 4th chapter of my mobwife au (‘ultraviolet disguise’, a canon-divergent au where pete never got recruited as bodyguard but ends up caught up in mafia bullshit anyway when he starts dating a mafia don named ‘hwan’ who vegas has been trying to take down for a while now)
