Let's also remember that every male love interest of Eliot has been killed or totally wiped away from the show.

ugh
i really. literally just wish that so much of the s5 criticism here on social media wasn’t worded or taken as consensus from the entire queer audience. bc i’m really out here feeling like i Cannot voice my opinion or i’m being queer in the wrong fucking way which is. mm. something that gets to me on an extra personal level so. bleh.
it really wouldn’t bother me so much if i didn’t feel so frequently like words are being put in my mouth. it’s not like this show deserves to be defended by me when it comes to this shit lmao
trust me, i’ve had criticisms all season- tumblr user the-socially-unaccepted has a whole treasure trove of em and shockingly, they even involve the queer storylines  sometimes!! who knew! i’ve mostly stopped expressing them publicly bc back after sd/cc when i decided that i needed to create space for myself to keep loving the parts of this show i love, it included realizing that participating in a constant performative onslaught against it at the same time is Hard.
none of this actually matters it’s just been a very weird fandom space the last couple months to be in where it’s like. queer opinions only matter if they’re as upset as possible at anything the show does with any and all queer characters, and if you’re not doing that then you must be a supporter of xyz bad thing they’ve done and/or homophobic.
ughgfhg whatever, i’m looking forward to how the series ends. somehow still out here loving this fucked show. this has been exhausting, but at least it’s almost done and we can hopefully take a goddamn break from being upset with each other.

Eliot, while sword fighting: I admit it, you are better than I am.
Idri: Then why are you smiling?
Eliot: Because I know something you don't know.
Idri: And what is that?
Eliot: I am not left-handed.
Idri: You've been fighting with your right hand???

This whole week I’ve had on my mind: Idri and Eliot was so good, and my bitterness that it got dropped only grows with time.
If I were to ever write an alternate s5 that ends totally differently, it would include Idri also coming forward in time and reuniting with Eliot, or else Idri ending up on Earth. I’ve been writing about this anyway, but seriously, something like Ess getting Idri away during the war in Loria and escaping to Earth with Idri close to death. He survives but they end up trapped there because of the destruction of Fillory.
My phone’s autocorrect knows “Idriot” so that’s how much I yell about this. It would have been so good, and I know everyone has their TM disappointments. Mine was that the show completely dropped this totally fantastic character, and his relationship with Eliot.
Like: imagine the Beast trying to break Eliot’s fingers but Idri is Having None Of That and together they distract him and escape so Eliot’s fingers aren’t broken and he can go to Fillory at the end.

Grace Warren, Cincinatti-born recent Brakebills graduate, finds herself in Fillory by no fault of her own. She sees what has happened to past Children of Earth who have found themselves there and, with no way back home, flees to the North.
She meets a handsome young man in the woods and, when asked where she hails from, exhaustedly lets it slip she is from Earth. The man assumes she is looking for Fillory and, unable to stop herself, she laughs in his face.
This is how Grace Warren endeared herself to Prince Idri, Heir Apparent to the throne of Loria.

Canon divergent where Quentin is Fen
Soooo, imagine this: Let’s say that Julia takes Quentin’s place in the story so far, ergo her going to Brakebills, getting to know and more or less befriend, the rest of the gang.
They do come into contact with the Beast, realize they have to be the one to stop him, learn about Fillory being real, etc...
Enter the deal with the blacksmith. One of them has to take on the mantle of high king, and that one has to marry the blacksmith’s son, Quentin.
Seeing the cute, young man, (on the short side, semi long hair that has his fingers itching to stroke through, bright eyes, leanly muscled, nice smile, but seems shy, etc), Eliot is a lot more receptive to the whole thing than he was with Fen. (- I like Fen, I think she is a great character, but, well, you know.)
Having a spouse he is actually attracted to and can imagine himself falling in love with eventually, has Eliot put a lot more effort into building a relationship with Quentin.
(Oh, they kill the Beast too, by the way. :-) )
As the son of a blacksmith, having been around weapons his whole life, Quentin knows how to use them. Quentin would still have mental issues, but having grown up in Fillory, where people don’t really know about mental health and depression and treatments and such, Quentin had to seek out alternatives methods to deal with his ‘spells’. (Think about that scene with Quentin and Benedict, when Benedict confessed to Quentin about how his parents had told him to just keep those dark feelings to himself and never talk about them) - So, yeah, Fillory isn’t very progressive when it comes to self-care.
So, whenever Quentin was getting depressed, or as his father would call it, get one of his ‘spells’, his father would make him handle the weapons, or train to fight with them. “A smith can only make a good weapon, when he knows how to fight with a weapon” or something like this.
Needless to say, Quentin got really, freaking good with a sword. (even though he is totally clumsy with almost everything else. Which Eliot just finds adorable)
When King Idri of Loria threatens war if the Fillorians don’t surrender their magic resources, the wellspring (how did this go again?, damn, so much has happened in the seasons), Quentin convinces Eliot to let him fight Idri in Eliot’s stead. (As the high king’s husband, Quentin can take Eliot’s place for certain things.)
Eliot doesn’t like it, because who would enjoy watching the person they are in the process of falling in love with fight another warrior to the death to prevent a war, but with the wellspring just in the beginning stages of getting fixed again, and magic still being wildly unstable, he has to relent to Margo and Quentin’s arguments that Eliot likely wouldn’t stand a chance.
Watching the fight between Quentin and Idri is a kind of sweet torture for Eliot.
Because his boy is god damn hot fighting with a sword, an almost unnatural seeming grace leading Quentin’s usually clumsy movements, as he blocks and parades and attacks.
But it’s also fucking terrifying, because Quentin is fighting TO THE DEATH, and Idri is clearly not a novice with the sword.
Quentin get’s some bruises and cuts (severity of those to be negotiated ;-) ) , but ultimately wins. When it is time to deliver the killing blow, the king’s son, Es, calls a halt to the fight. (He doesn’t want his dad to die, it’s understandable.)
Eliot isn’t interested in peace negotiations just then, and leaves Margo and Tick to hash things out with Prince Es. He is far more concerned with getting his injured husband back to the castle and take care of his wounds. And then apply a whole other set of tender loving care upon Q.  ;-)
Eliot at some point in time becomes aware of Quentin’s mental health issues, and does his best to help him with those. With actual communication and reassurance and all those good things.
Maybe there is a kind of loophole to the whole ‘having to stay in Fillory for the rest of your life’ deal, and Eliot can take like, ‘vacations’ on earth. And Eliot would just LOVE the fuck out of showing Quentin all the things he enjoys on earth, and all the things he thinks Quentin would enjoy on earth. And watching Quentin experience all those things that Eliot doesn’t even think are all that remarkable, makes him fall for his husband all over again.
And then we could just have lots of funny, cute, lovely little scenes about the two of them having adventures on earth, and in Fillory, and growing into their roles as leaders of a kingdom, and deepening the bonds of friendship with the rest of the gang, and falling more and more in love with each other every day.
Needless to say, it doesn’t have to follow canon at all after the beast is defeated.
Any takers?

so, I am in the middle of the duel episode of the magicians, and I've always loved Eliot's character but it is just hitting me now for the first time how insanely, staggeringly hot he is. heroic resolve is a good fucking look on him ;_;
Let us never forget that Eliot went into a duel to the death and was so fucking hot that the other king was just like okay let’s stop fighting and get married?????
Tumblr media
And honestly King Idri of Loria is the most valid because who wouldn’t take one look at this beauty and propose marriage on the spot

Howl’s Moving Castle a Queliot AU
I just need to talk about how perfect this is of an idea even if I never get around to writing it. (The muse and I have to discuss)
Okay but come with me on this journey
Quentin has the boy who feels plain and alone and doesn’t know he has any magic being rescued by some unknown man who greets him with “There you are sweetheart, sorry I'm late. I was looking everywhere for you.” Them having a magical moment of flying over everyone
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Only that night spooky magic witch person (Fairy Queen possibly) insults Quentin and then disappears. When he wakes up in the morning he’s old and “oh well time to wander off into the forest outside this town. no one will miss me.”
Enter the moving castle powered by - dun dun dun - the fire demon Jennifer. Who wants to be free and makes a deal with Quentin to break their bond with the Wizard Eliot.
Hijinks ensue as Quentin pokes around the magic castle and refuses to stop.
Like who’s ready for Eliot to say “ I give up. I see no point in living if I can't be beautiful.” then poor Quentin like shouting “I’ve never been beautiful a day in my life!”
like yo
“You're wearing that hat? After all the magic I used to make your clothes pretty?”
Tumblr media
Margo the witch of the waste who is best buds with Wizard Eliot and they are just trying to stop a war from happening because Loria is claiming that King Idri is missing and blaming [static noise] for it.
Head Magician Fogg calling all trained Wizards and Witches to the war effort only ops Eliot has like 4 fake names.
Eliot and Margo having late night convos just like “um you know your high strung nerd did the enchantment to himself?” “yes Bambi I’m aware but he has to break it himself too.”
And then the part we have all been waiting for. As shit Goes Down Quentin finds himself in the past looking at when Eliot and Jennifer made the pact and we realize this is A TIME TRAVEL ROMANCE. NON-LINEAR BITCHES.
Tumblr media
this fandom needs some actual fucking AUs. Stop playing in the sandbox build by the writers. break out. be free. join me. I have so many animes we can adapt!
