Jai's Friendship dynamics
(idk what to call this, just need more details)
Cora
With Cora, their relationship has a strong sibling vibe, with Jai often taking on the role of the annoying but protective older brother. They have inside jokes and references that even Marek doesn't always get, creating a unique bond between them.
Jai is often the first person Cora turns to when she needs to vent about work or personal issues, especially those she can't share with Marek. In return, Cora provides Jai with a connection to a more "normal" life, reminding him of the world outside their criminal activities.
Their Minecraft server is a sacred space for both of them. They have elaborate builds and ongoing projects that they work on together, often using it as a way to decompress after stressful days. They share a love for anime and often hosts marathon viewing sessions. They also bond over being the more tech-savvy members of their friend group.
Jai is acutely aware of Cora's naivety in some areas and goes out of his way to protect her from the harsher realities of his and Marek's world. He often acts as a buffer between Cora and potential threats, whether they're physical dangers or emotional ones.
Jai is more attuned to Cora's emotional state than Marek sometimes. He can pick up on her stress or discomfort even when she's trying to hide it. He's often the one to nudge Marek when Cora needs extra support or care, acting as a bridge between his two friends.
They have an ongoing prank war, with each trying to outdo the other. These pranks are always harmless but often elaborate, showcasing both Jai's tech skills and Cora's creativity. This playfulness helps balance out the seriousness of their lives and gives them both an outlet for stress.
While Cora hasn't revealed her powers to Jai, he's observant enough to sense that she's hiding something significant. He never pushes her on this, but makes it clear through his actions and words that he's there for her no matter what.
Jai provides a different perspective on life than Marek, helping Cora maintain a balance between Marek's intense, sometimes dark world and a more lighthearted approach to life. He supports Cora's relationship with Marek but also encourages her independence and personal growth.
Jai's caught on to Maria's crush on him, but he's also caught on to how she feels about Marek. He resents what he sees as the wedge Maria's trying to drive between his two best friends, but remains polite when he's over at their place and encourages Cora to come over to his and Marek's place more, instead.
Jai has been teaching Cora bits of Lao, and she's been helping him brush up on his French, which she took in high school. They often greet each other in these languages or use them to make comments they don't want others to understand.
Marek
Despite not being blood-related, Jai and Marek have a deep brotherly bond. They've grown up together, sharing life's ups and downs, which has created an unshakeable trust between them. Despite this close bond, they maintain a healthy rivalry in certain areas, constantly trying to one-up each other in friendly competitions.
Jai often acts as a counterbalance to Marek's intensity. Where Marek can be serious and focused, Jai brings levity and a different perspective. This helps keep Marek grounded.
While Jai is unwaveringly loyal to Marek, he's not afraid to voice his concerns about Marek's ambitions. He supports Marek's goals but often tries to steer him towards less dangerous or morally ambiguous paths.
The loss of Marek's parents affected Jai deeply as well. He feels a sense of responsibility to honor their memory by supporting Marek, but also worries about the path this vengeance is leading them down.
In their criminal activities, Jai's tech skills complement Marek's strategic thinking. They work seamlessly together, often communicating without words in high-pressure situations.
Jai is one of the few people who can read Marek's moods accurately. He knows when to push Marek to open up and when to give him space. He's also protective of Marek, often working behind the scenes to neutralize threats before they reach Marek's attention.
Although they didn't have as much time for it as they used to, Marek and Jai work on restoring cars together. It was a passion of Marek's father, and something they learned together to try to hold onto that connection after he passed. It provides regular, uninterrupted time for them to talk and joke, and gives them a way to decompress from the stresses of their criminal lives.

neuvillette is aware that he shouldn’t have let you get so close. but he did, and now he’s lamenting the fact that your hands are grasping at his soft horns — his fucking horns, of all places — and he might like it.
uptight and strait-laced, you’ve never known the chief justice to be someone so easily flustered. yet here he is with heat crawling up his neck, so warm that you can feel it against your palms as they ghost over his skin.
you can’t help but laugh at his current situation.
he was vehemently against you coming anywhere near his hair at first, grumbling about how his horns were on the sensitive side and he would rather not have to go into work feeling uncomfortably aware of their presence on his head.
however, you were hard to deny with that little smile on your face and such soft hands grabbing at his arms, tugging him closer. a sweet voice chanting, "please, honey? pretty please?"
neuvillette has never been good at denying you what you want.
it’s how he ends up sitting at your shared vanity. you comb through his long hair, watching him with amusement in the mirror as he huffs and jolts with every brush of your fingers against his horns.
the fact that he was letting you get anywhere near them was surely a testament to his trust in you. he was completely vulnerable here, at your mercy.
“sorry,” you mumble disingenuously, clearly enjoying seeing your usually serious husband falling apart with a simple action. you quickly tie off the end of his hair with a bow and he sighs in relief, thinking that the torment is over.
it's far from over.
he draws a sharp breath when you lean forward and press two gentle kisses on him; one on either side of his head just beside his horns.
neuvillette glowers at you in the reflection, disapproval written all over his face. "stop that," he scolds.
you do, but only because you're worried he might melt into a puddle before your very eyes if you continue.
it becomes a daily routine after that, with him sitting patiently in front of the mirror while you brush and tie off his hair. and you always end it the same way: two kisses, a soft "have a good day at work," murmured against him, and a mischievous little smile that makes him sigh.
he responds everyday with the same two words. "stop that," with a narrow-eyed glare.
the day you do stop, he's confused and irritated.
not only because you have the audacity to throw a wrench into routine again, which you know he hates, but also because he can't figure out why he misses your lips so much.
"what are you doing? i am going to be late."
"hm?" you peer up lazily from your spot on the bed, still half asleep.
"you have to do my hair."
"i thought you didn't want me to, so i slept in today."
your husband is eerily silent for a moment as he mulls over your words. then, he carefully perches himself on the edge of the bed, back turned to you expectantly and still wordless.
no, he would never admit he likes it just a little bit — the vulnerability, the trust, the feeling of your hands threading through his hair, the intimacy of it. hell no.
but neuvillette doesn't have to say a lot of things for you to understand; not when the way his skin heats up says it all; not when you're the first person to touch his horns in centuries; not when he’s saying stop that with such an affectionate glimmer in his eyes.
you give him four kisses that morning, two on either side.

Prompt 338
So the GIW is the Ghost Investigation Ward and not the Ghost Extermination Ward, yes? Hear me out, hm?
See, it’s really hard to study ecto-entities when they’re going all over in and out of the world. Really hard! And of course they aren’t like, sentient, studies for years before the boom in this one town showed this! But, the overgrown not-birds (they’re still debating that) are really hard to watch doing their natural thing when they naturally mimic people around them!
So! They got this idea, right? Their operatives can capture some! They’ve even made enclosures based off of what they currently know! It’s like containing crows, down to the mimicry & puzzle solving just er, with opposable thumbs and intangibility.
And they don’t succeed first tries of course (Wow were said operatives frustrated and maybe cursing a bit that might be a bit violently) but then they get some assistance from the Fentons! Trying to hit an ecto-entities’ wings in a way to not permanently injure them is hard, but the new net canons that a ghost can’t pass through? Perfect!
They have so many specimens now! They even released a few that were very much uncontainable- they rely on technology a bit and that entity kept unlocking all the doors. So catch and release with that one it is!
They even managed to catch the white-haired ghost! In double! Which might not seem that important, but! As they realize during intake & initial examination (wow are they bitey) the two appear to be young! Something their ectobiologists only theorized about but oh are they excited!
(Now if only the two would stop trying to escape their enclosure that’d be swell! Look, toys! Foo- oh dear God that baby ecto-entity is melting- Oh few, okay note taken to raise ambient ecto levels in that room dear god that was horrifying and stressful. … Maybe get some feelers out for feeding unstable energy entities…)
