Oh my goodness, thank you bby!! Y'all are gonna hear about Shanks today lmfao. Most of this is gonna be under a readmore bc I've never been able to be succinct but here we goooooo!

2. Favorite canon thing about this character?

I love how careful he is about when and how he flexes all that power he has. It was meant to be very on the nose when we were introduced to him via Luffy in the very beginning of the series, but like. His little episode on Whitebeard's ship seemed like he had conqueror's haki out of control, but it was a very purposeful flex, if for nothing else than to show that he took approaching another Yonko seriously. Or the way he chose to handle Greenbull at the end of Wano. Sure it was hard to the new folks on his crew to handle exposure so suddenly, but he sent that like 50 miles out from the ship and hit that jerk in the heart with it. And never even raised his voice about it. Idk I think his restraint and how it manifests is a really interesting part of his characterization.

4. If you could put this character in any other media, be it a book, a movie, anything, what would you put them in?

it's probably on my mind bc of Bernard Hill's recent passing, but I think Shanks would do so well and have a grand old time being elusive and mysterious in Lord of the Rings lmfao. He's got that Aragorn quality of could be in his 20s could be in his 40s who knows, he and Gandalf would probably get a kick out of each other, he'd fucking love the hobbits I am telling you this. (he also, I am very afraid, has that Aragorn quality of 'doomed by the narrative just not quite yet,' but we'll see.)

6. What's something you have in common with this character?

this is hard, I think he's a much more complex and interesting person than I am for the most part, but like. I think it's safe to say he'd mostly rather diffuse a situation than have it become serious when the latter is avoidable, and I am that way too. If the situation is already serious and requires a throw down response that's a different matter, but if we can avoid a serious fight in favor of a little tussle and some drinks, that'd be the way he'd go, and I agree.

8. What's something the fandom does when it comes to this character that you despise?

take this one with a grain of salt bc I mostly try not to yuck anyone's yum or argue about differing headcanons, but I really do not fucking like the like. scumbag/villain!Shanks thing that seems to have a semi-popular following. some of that is personal bias, as I think he is a warm, good person who is doing his best, but it also kind of feels like a betrayal of the narrative for him. which I realize is funny coming from the "everything is made up including the source material" guy but here we are. there was a period a few months ago where people were basically just writing him as OP Toji and it made me want to pull all my hair out.

10. Could you be best friends with this character?

absolutely, I adore him, I think he's right about a lot of things, our ethics tend to line up where it matters, I think he's funny and would be fun to be around, he listens well and is a warm and compassionate person. I really like him and we'd get along really well I think. (mostly probably through the lens of my OC bc I'm not like. terribly convinced of my actual in person IRL likeability but in theory, absolutely yes.)

12. What's a headcanon you have for this character?

I've written about it a little before, but I think the reason he let Buggy go without telling him what Roger talked to him about after the execution wasn't because he didn't want Buggy with him anymore or didn't believe he had what it took to complete that mission, but so that Buggy would have a chance to forge his own way and have his own life. Doing what Roger asked necessitated Shanks--who was widely regarded as having the potential to be the next big legend--to drop out of the running almost entirely. He picked up his crew, he made a name for himself, he became the youngest person (at the time) to gain the title of Yonko, but he also spent a decent amount of time having to like. Lay low on beaches and dick around in the East Blue and play balance keeper and chess master until the man Roger was waiting for appeared. There are more spoilery additions to this that I'll leave out for now but yeah. I think he knew Buggy had all that same potential, and wanted to give him an opportunity to strike out on his own adventure without living in that shadow or carrying their mentor's ghost around.

oh take this one with a grain of salt too idk that I know any of the terms correctly lmfao but he's very like. when I picture boho in my mind that seems very him. a lot of linens a lot of light flowy breathable clothes. It's pirate!Boho obviously but like. The man is out there wearing birkenstocks as we speak js.

16. What's your least favorite ship for this character?

same standard issue disclaimer as the fandom stuff I don't like, this isn't to yuck anyone's yum, follow your bliss what people ship isn't my business, these are just the ones I personally do not like. shankslu is at the forefront, but I don't really do shanksbenn either?? a LOT of captains and first mates in this series read that way to me but those two don't for me.

18. How about a relationship they have in canon with another character that you admire?

I actually really enjoy his dynamic with Marco. There are some interesting pieces of shared history there but overall the like. Friendly ribbing, amiable hanging out and willingness to cooperate between two of my faves is always very nice to see. c:

20. Which other character is the ideal best friend for this character, the amount of screentime they share doesn't matter?

oh please I think he'd think Sabo was a ton of fun. I know there's an age difference there that makes peership a little different than between the other mid-40s dudes he usually hangs out with, but think about it. Two very powerful people who are carrying the weight of part of this new era on their shoulders, who have a habit of just sort of fucking off out of the narrative and doing things as they please within their own personal parameters, who will just get up and obliterate a guy when that's what the situation calls for? Funny, weird, intelligent guys that love Luffy, believe in him, and want whats best for him? Even if they weren't besties, I think there's a lot of fun overlap for general friendship there.

22. If you're a fic reader, what's something you like in fics when it comes to this character? Something you don't like?

something I like: when people recognize that all that soft puppy silly goofy guy exterior, while sincerely part of him, is something that he makes the decision to externalize every day, and is sat atop a deep well of like. sadness and responsibility. there are a lot of people doing a very good job making him a romantic dopey nightmare man without sacrificing that silliness or his intelligence and sense of personal responsibility.

something I don't like: when people start a fic with the disclaimer "Shanks is in here but I hate him lol so he's a lil ooc 🤭🤪" and then he's like. not only ooc but just someone's ex boyfriend or doflamingo or just off-screen doing heinous shit for no reason. Writing a character you hate: can be fun and compelling! I fucking hate Doflamingo, for example, but as a narrative device, as a villain? bar none one of the best and most interesting. Writing a character you hate with the intention of doing a shit job because you hate them? dumb, annoying, and a waste of everyone's time. why include someone you don't want to write about lmfao just pick a different character and be done.

24. What other character from another fandom of yours that reminds you of them?

i'm drawing a blank, I'm going to be real with you. Like, I can think of a ton of mentor characters, but they don't really remind me of him. I can think of a bunch of like. guardian of the new era characters, that still don't super remind me of him. I think again i've got LOTR on the brain rn but the like. Fellowship of the Ring Aragorn is the closest I'm coming up with and even that's mostly in terms of like. the gentle mentorship of the hobbits, the offbeat sense of humor, and that dedication to a responsibility that he might have been scared to face. IDK. Shanks is a pretty unique guy to me. I'm sure I'm gonna sit bolt upright at 3 AM with a list of 20 people that fit the bill but rn it simply isn't clicking lmfao.

i have been reading reviews for old(er) books that deal with queerness, and so many ppl, primarily young(er) ppl, have the ideology that "we should just forget this book bc it uses outdated terms, is explicit about sex, is vulgar, and/or is not how queer folks express themselves now." and!! i'm appalled by the blatant privilege and lowkey ignorance y'all have!! putting y'all whole chest in it too!! like yr opinion is yr opinion but god would it kill you to, idk, try and put yrself into the sociopolitical context the author wrote the work in? a context that probably still exists today but you chose to ignore in your privilege. essentially, have reading comprehension!!!!!

something i've been thinking about a lot lately is that purity culture is going to make ppl so.. illiterate and unable to read books critically. bc in yr mission to boycott all works that are "problematic" or "bad", you'll create a populace that can't talk about these issues for fear of being cancelled. for fear of being deemed "problematic" and "bad".

you can even see it in fandom!! purity culture is fucking rampant in fandom!!! and i'm not gon lie and say i wasn't guilty of it at some point. it's weird to say it, but i have matured from the kid i was in the past. matured enough to see the purpose of explicit works in fandom, to even be someone who reads it and (poorly) writes it. same for dead dove fics. like, really sit and think about it. just how freeing it is!!! and i find it greatly ironic that on the anti-censorship, pro-liberal site that you guys are some of the most restrictive butthurt policing mfs outchea!!

on that note, tagging is such an important part of ao3, allowing ppl to curate their experiences, and i'm shocked that some people just do not use them? how do you expect ppl to find yr works!! let alone filter them if they're not what someone wants to read.

I think when people say we don't owe each other anything they don't really have experience of needing kindness.

Like, last year on the way back from Pride we were at the transit plaza waiting for a bus and I noticed a staff member wearing a trans flag pin, just barely peeking from under her vest. I went over to her and smiled, telling her happy pride and asking if she got to celebrate. She frowned a little and said that she hadn't been able to, and I felt my heart sink a little.

I opened my bag and rummaged for a few seconds before pulling out a few pins and told her to go ahead and pick a few. Her whole face lit up and she picked a she/her pin, a trans flag pin, and a cat pin. I still remember how she looked like she was making a Very Important Decision. And how she was so grateful that she got to "experience a little bit of Pride".

A person I was with really irked me bc as soon as we got on the bus he was all "why did you do that? You don't owe her anything." And I just... yes? I do? She's one of the people working to keep the transit running so we can even get to pride in the first place. And even aside from that, giving her a few free pins I got didn't cost me anything. But it gave her a smile, and made her feel like her community loves her.

I don't understand how people can't feel the need to help each other where we can. Like, we don't have much for money at all, so we take leftovers around the community so homeless folks around us can have a hot meal. Another family I know gives out unused food when they have cookouts at the park to anyone who's hungry. The kid I adopted sends me money occasionally to celebrate a holiday, just "so y'all can do something". A lady I know crochets blankets and hats and booties for the hospitals around her. And all of these are wonderful, beautiful acts of love that are completely done out of pure kindness, bc it's not like any of us are getting anything out of it. The thing we DO get out of it is a feeling of helping someone, even if it's just showing them kindness, or if it's something monumental to them.

Watching a lot of the world fall into self-centered apathy is so deeply saddening when you hear people saying "you don't owe anyone anything". Humanity only got as far as it has bc we understood what we owed to each other. We understood we owed each other help in the hopes that help would come when we need it, and that kindness creates ripples innumerable. And seeing how it's become so much of an issue that people even act like this with their friends?? People won't just cover a drink for their friend without expecting them to pay back, or have them over for dinner. And I totally get when you can't afford to, but when it's just a regular behavior it's so disappointing. Especially when you're the person who ends up being used in friendships.

Idk I just think that if we took a moment to admit how alone and in need of someone to talk/listen it would do so much

God, I really struggle to explain how much easier everything is.

Time for y'all to hear about my metaphor of choice.

In its natural state, the inside of my brain is the TV section of a Best Buy in the late 90s. Almost every TV is on a different channel with commercials running. Most of them have the volume turned up. There's everything from little 27" screens, clear up to the 78" beasts.

Sometimes the thing I need to be doing is on a big screen, and several others are on the same thing, the volume is up, and I can do the work. Sometimes the thing I need to do is on a single black and white CRT in the corner that's stuck on mute. Those are rough days.

On Adderall - and maybe on others, idk, this is the one I take - I am still in the TV section of a Best Buy in the late 90s. But now there's only two or three things running. Lots of duplicates of the same show. The volume is on, and I can't shut the sound off on everything, but I can turn it down on some of the ones I don't need.

I try very hard not to be upset that no one noticed this when I was in school. I got pretty good grades, and most of my style of hyperactivity was in my head, not climbing on the tables. I had never heard a description of ADHD that wasn't focused on the classic young boy can't sit still. I had never lived anywhere except for the TV section of a Best Buy in the late 90s. I didn't have anything to compare to, so I never tried to explain what it was like. I figured this what what everyone had going on.

I got put on adderall thanks to some mild medical malpractice in 2022. I told my doc I was constantly blurry and lethargic and couldn't focus. We knew this was from other meds. He decided to just hand me 5mg of adderall to give me some energy. Insane. But. I took the pill, expecting to find some energy. I fell asleep 20 minutes after taking it bc it the volume turned down in my head for the first time. I woke up a few hours later, and had a few hours of clarity. I lost my scrip about 6 months later thanks to the shortage and then the changes as the pandemic restrictions lifted.

And folks when I tell you that it was worse than before, I don't know how to underline that enough. I'd been used to it. Constant sound, constant mental tvs playing. That was my life. Then I got to have something closer to normalcy. So going back? It has been unbearable. The same as when pain meds wear off. You've forgotten how bad it was without them.

Even sitting here right now, I can type easier bc my brain isn't fucking off midway between one letter and the next. It's more accurate and its faster. I haven't paged away to look at god knows what. I haven't started writing something entirely unrelated to this that I then have to notice, delete and try to recall what I was trying to say.

Does this mean I'll suddenly be able to finish fricking chapter 7? I don't know yet, but it is such a relief to have cleared a year of hurdles to get my damn meds back.

Anyway, might write something where Eddie takes adhd meds for the first time sometime post Vecna because his government therapist dfgaf and hands him some, and he has to deal with the fact that he's been trying to run a foot race while cuffed to a boulder.

i think it'll be interesting writing for Champ tho? we did various non asau/non canon things with him before we nailed down the plot and i think we've got a p good idea of his character at this point. ofc it'll become clearer as we write him. i like contrasting him to Wild tho bc Wild is so........ not what Champ is. Champ could have been Wild and Champ is v much "the other guy" to them and it freaks them out a little. but like....... getting to his plot arc. that will be some crazy shit. Mikah's gonna try to fuck up everything and the chain is gonna have to get involved in a major historical event. Mizu has usually been the one to write Champion's parts when we've used him in stuff........ except for that one time. ehehe.

but anyway!!! i like thinking about their gender situation bc trans stuff is My Agenda TM and Wild has v much transed their gender. and i think it weirds Wild and Champ out bc Champ thought he was wholly cis before meeting the chain and he's kinda forced into stereotypes like his whole life has been so he didnt think he had the option of anything else bc of the Expectations yknow. but then there's Wild, free of all the (specific) burdens and anxieties that weigh Champ down and he's thinking like "......can i be like that? is that how it's meant to be?" but the answer to that is fuzzy. bc Wild is a different person! they got a second chance and there are some holdovers from then but they're fundamentally different ppl. it might open up Champ's eyes a little but they're...... so different. unless Champion's whole situation changed, i don't think he'd ever get the chance to experiment with his gender. maybe in private his partners could convince him to loosen up a little but like..... over a decent period of time and being gently introduced to this idea, as well as Champion allowing himself to indulge a little and have something for himself.

well! that's some Thoughts on a boi. characters get easier to gush about as we write them in the context and we haven't had a chance to write Champ yet! it's like we get to know the character more as we write for them.

Mary forces Stede to get a bodyguard and Ed, current crime syndicate boss, goes undercover to get to Stede's wealth but ends up falling in love along the way

Stede left his inheritance behind and became a high class escort to make cash, meets rough and tumble stripper Ed on the wrong side of the tracks and they decide to teach each other the way of their professions canon style and later open up a strip club or something together idk

Ed is one of the world's most famous rock stars and Stede signs up as his plucky opening act, cue shenanigans and manager Izzy literally ripping his hair out every moment

Stede is a plastic surgeon who's bored to tears and gets called in for some big emergency to help stitch and it turns out Ed's biker gang got into it with some other gang or something and whilst he's stitching Ed up he falls in love with Ed's tales of adventure and runs away to ride across the country with them (also Izzy definitely bit off someone's ear in this AU bc that's exactly something he would do)

ok this one is a little niche but Vault Dweller!Stede decides to escape to explore the Wastelands and runs into Ed and co who're making a go of it as gunners and wow your life sounds cool can we trade (mutually)

Stede moves into a new neighbourhood after his divorce looking to start over and meets his new neighbour Ed who's a right terror but honestly he seems to have so much fun breaking the rules and spitting in the face of the HOA, why is stede following these stupid expectations anyway?

Stede is head of a business frat and by god does that frat next door have loud parties, maybe he should politely remind them to keep it down because some people have midterms coming up and oh fuck the head of the other frat is hot and wears all leather and is getting a music degree fuck him

hey amanda! this is a little random but do you have any advice for making friends in college? i’m a sophomore & just had my first in-person semester but feel like i’ve made no real/long term friends. i made 0 friends during zoom university so i was really excited at the start of the semester, talked to so many people from clubs/class, hung out 1/2 times with each of them, etc but all these convos feel the same/superficial & i’m always the one initiating hangouts. coming back home for break to high school friends really made me realize how lonely & sad i was during the semester. i’m dreading going back & idk. i just feel so lost & i’m scared the rest of college will be like this

First of all, let me acknowledge how you're feeling and what you're doing, bc it's a lot and I hope you're proud of yourself for not only identifying what you want in friendships/relationships, but doing your best to pursue those relationships rather than settling. That's something a lot of people don't do until way later in life, and I'm incredibly proud of you. Your feelings of frustration and loneliness are absolutely valid, and let's see if we can't come up with a game plan to tackle em, yeah?

Now, on the topic of making friends - and I swear I'm not trying to be all "when I was your age, blah blah blah" - but you are still early on in your college journey, and there's a pretty good chance that your fellow classmates who are also sophomores are feeling more like freshmen and having all those same experiences as well. When I was in college (I was a freshman in 2016), the whole first year was more about figuring myself out and my life out first, and meeting other people second. So while I joined clubs (and even started one!!) and met people, they were little more than casual acquaintances bc neither of us were in the space to invest in anything deeper. So there is that environmental aspect that does bear mentioning, because the chances that it's not a reflection of you at all are EXTREMELY high

My top piece of advice would be to keep showing up. Identify a couple clubs or organizations centered around something important to you - a passion, a skill, a cause or a religion – and keep showing up. Engage consistently with everyone, and keep an eye out for those people who you consistently seem to click with. It's a slow process, and can often feel hella awkward and agonizing, but the best and deepest friendships are the ones that happen organically. And if y'all form a bond around a common interest and then expand out from there? You're golden. (That's how I met some of my closest, dearest friends - we started watching Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood together and now they're like my second family.)

You mentioned spending time with your high school friends over break; I'm not sure how close y'all are, but another great way to combat loneliness is to schedule virtual hangouts or watch parties. You could put a discord server together for your friends to keep in touch and watch TV or movies together, or just all chat in one big virtual room. It's not the same as hanging out in meatspace, but it will help you keep those people in your life in a more tangible way, which is not only really helpful for Ye Olde Mental Health, but also just fun!! Same thing with internet friends - I was way closer with the friends I made on Tumblr while in college than I was with any of my IRL college friends, and that's okay! Friends come from all places!

Finally, when you start deepening some friendships with folks you meet at college, don't be afraid to set boundaries. You mentioned feeling frustrated by the superficial conversations you were having and the fact that you were always initiating hangouts - both totally valid feelings, ones I felt myself All The Time!! - and there's nothing wrong with articulating that to people bc I can guarantee they may not even know they're acting that type of way. Something as simple as "Since I planned this get-together, I'll leave the ball in your court for the next one!" can go a long way in setting that boundary without making it weird, you know?

Also, for whatever it's worth? This loneliness and lost feeling goes away. I know it doesn't feel like it right now, but as someone who may as well have ghostwritten that question when I was your age, I promise you: it's not always gonna feel like this. Which sounds like such a line, but ya know. I promise. It's gonna get better. And I'm always here for you; drop me a line any time <3

this one is actually on ao3 though i haven’t updated it in a while. sort of sci-fi esque au (i call it my cyber au) where akashi is an AI constructed by akashi corp - he self-destructs after 13 years of what would be considered torture, were he human. except the self-destruct, despite killing hundreds of people, doesn’t carry through; he survives. momoi, one of the head scientists in his development, alongside aomine who does not want anything to do with akashi, takes him in. together they work on developing a plan to take down akashi corp and the man at its head, akashi masaomi, to prevent the same fate from befalling akashi again - or any future AI constructed with his schematics. i think this one is set to be akakuro with momoriko as a side ship.

pressure/home/magic (officially: unnamed) - KNB

a high fantasy au (as many of my things are). akashi-centric (as many of my things are). a world of specialized magic and the many dangers that come with. having only just joined the other members of the Guild of Miracles, having so quickly been accepted as their leader, akashi questions what it means to lead the people he's already betrayed and hurt once, and what it means that a part of him is still angry. kuroko and the others trust him unconditionally. he fears they may need some conditions. sitting at 25k but there are so many consistency and plot errors so who knows?

also fantasy. also akashi-centric. akakaga. the world is infested with mutated wildlife. people volunteer to fight and keep these populations low. but stuff's kinda fucked up and they're also competing. think hunger games vibes but they don't compete directly against one another.

kagami dies mysteriously and akashi is determined to bring him back; he makes unlikely friends with the rest of the miracles. this one has a BILLION plot holes (because it’s inspired from a dream) and needs a total rewrite that i'm not sure i'll ever get to.

stelle castate ("cast stars") - JJBA

yeah yeah i know y'all don't care about my jojo stuff bc this IS a knb blog but i like to ramble about this one so hear me out. also fantasy (what can i say? i don't like guns). fugo-centric. basically follows the plot of part 5 of jojo except for the fact that i made stands into Magic and changed lots of small details. that and i monologue a lot - this is in-depth on character development, particularly with a focus on fugo’s thoughts on giorno and on bucciarati.

oh and fugo like, shows up in the final battle. and there are some people that i specifically refuse to kill off because i like them <3 and there's more that continues even after part 5 canon ends. like a whole entire arc more.

No one told you just how tedious and time consuming being a Champion would be. No wonder the former one appears much less stressed, the poor guy barely had time for his family on this schedule. You were constantly on the move and everyone wanted to talk to you. Leon came around to check on you after you had sent him a text saying, "Help, why are they coming for my life, I have a shit to do."

"Your schedule is very full," He said, looking at you apologetically. "There should be a warning before people try to become Champion, this is a workload that would surely scare off a lot of trainers."

"I don't even have time for my hobbies!" You flip the page to your schedule and half of next month was already full. "I'm lucky enough to manage a call to my mom and one of the only times I see Kabu is when I am going home in the middle of the night." You were surprised the man hasn't decided to leave you. You would completely understand if he couldn't handle being with someone so busy.

"I was undefeated for a very long time," Leon starts explaining. "Your schedule is much fuller than mine was because you beat someone that no one else could for many years. Even those older than me and with perhaps more experience couldn't defeat me."

"You're telling me your schedule wasn't this hectic?" You stared down at the calendar, realizing that talking to Leon was going to get cut short anytime soon.

"It was hectic definitely. Not like this." Leon gave you a comforting pat on your shoulder. "The workload will lessen later on, not sure by how much but you can only repeat a story for so long before people get bored. Then you have to worry about people trying to force a story to happen. At least you have off time when the Gym Challenge is not at large."

"I'm going to lose to the next challenger on purpose," You said. It got a chuckle out of Leon who raised a brow at you, questioning the honesty of your statement. "Or not." You sighed. "Too many benefits outweighing the negatives right now. Well, I'm happy you're able to have more time for other projects Leon!"

"Thank you... Champion."

You were getting many challengers nowadays. People who couldn't defeat Leon come back thinking they can defeat you, plenty of Challengers coming for your title, and new ones in the making. You had a lot of paperwork as well, surprisingly enough. A lot of interviews, so many damn interviews, and your privacy? Almost completely gone. You were grateful for having been with Kabu since before you even challenged the Gyms to attempt being Champion.

Unfortunately your relationship with him was outed rather quickly because of that though. Even if it was a secret, the ring on a specific finger would have also given you away. That was quite recent, it was his surprise for when you became Champion so now wedding planning is somewhere quite far in the schedule. Your management didn't consider it as important as you did, it's something you had to force into your schedule. They only care about managing your public image, personal problems don't rank high on their list of priorities when they're organizing your calendar.

Champions also have to be very involved with Galar and it's people. You had to understand the public opinion, the government opinion, and manage almost any incoming threat. That was terrifying, they sent you to anything just because you happen to be strongest around right now. You had to suck it up and protect the people, show them that their Champion can do probably anything.

You read over your schedule with Leon for a bit longer until you saw something in it that was irritating. "Leon. Why in the world do I have interviews for both New Years Eve and New Years. They can't take those days! I wanted to... I need to be..." You were fuming. You told them not to fill the holidays and they didn't for the past ones, but for some reason they filled those two dates.

"There isn't much you can do about that," He says. "You can try but I remember trying and they... if its urgent, its unlikely." Leon continued with saying that they probably gave you the prior holidays so that you didn't have room to completely complain about your management.

Your phone started ringing. You hesitated to pick up the phone knowing that it'll be someone to take you away for another interview, photoshoot, or fan meet. You didn't hate the people that wanted to meet you, your anger was mostly directed towards the people that were stuffing so much into your schedule. Leon was right though, they can't keep this up forever and hopefully later on it will get more tolerable.

"Are you alright?" His familiar voice caused your shoulders to ease up. You were crossing your arms on the table with your head laid on them. You had came home tired of socializing and still having to do some paperwork having to do with former Chairman Rose.

"Yes, I'm fine. I'm tired though, mentally tired to tell you the truth." You stretched your arms upwards then felt two arms wrap around your shoulders when you put them down. "Kabu, I can't be with you during New Years Eve or New Years. It says its urgent but I very much doubt these Talk Shows need me that badly."

You didn't hear anything from behind you for a long moment. He was most likely thinking, you were too, and depending on what he says, you might just consider the idea of letting him go. It hurt you to ponder upon such a thing, but there's other people out there that could give Kabu much more of their time.

"I understand," He finally said, "I'll open up the Stadium for those that need a warm place to be on those days and I will be thinking of you when the countdown starts."

"You don't have to be like that, you know? You don't have to understand, you can be mad at me, you can be frustrated at me, I won't... I won't blame you!" You got up from where you were sitting to face him. He held your hands and promptly shook his head in response.

"I'm not sure you knew this, love but you do not plan your schedule." He kisses your knuckles to comfort you. "If I am to be frustrated at anyone it will be whoever made you busy on those two days. Was there anything you could do about it?"

"I tried, but they just repeatedly tell me that it's an urgent thing I need to be at," You reply, a frustrated sigh escaping past your lips.

"You do what you have to, and think of me as I will think of you during the countdown." With a hand gently on the back of your neck he guides your mouth to his in a much needed relaxing kiss that made your body melt.

"Of course, you're right... you're right," You mumbled. Your eyes remained closed for a bit after the kiss before you were able to open them without feeling like they held sadness in them. "I love you, you know that?"

"I love you too."

Your stylist dressed you up nicely for the interviews, these events to celebrate a new Champion and a New Year. This is wrong, why does it feel like you were just rubbing it in everyone's face that you were now Champion? You were backstage waiting to be introduced, slouching in a nearby couch with your elbow on your thigh and your hand holding your chin. Finally you heard your name, you could see the crowd cheering on the screen, all anticipating your presence through the hall that all guests walk through.

Kabu opened the Stadium as he said he would, a lot more people came than he thought would. He had announced that it would be open to celebrate the New Year and there would be food and drinks. It wasn't going to be like that at first but you offered the funds and he couldn't say no. It was open for people and Pokemon alike and that brought his heart a pleasant feeling.

He missed you a lot though. He understood that you had things to do but he didn't realize just how attached he had grown to you for your lacking presence to impact him so much. His Stadium was playing the interview for everyone to see and the people that came; majority of them knew Kabu was engaged to the new Champion of Galar. He wondered if you were going to complete your end of the promise and think of him.

"Here's our new magnificent Champion, (Name)!" The cheers were loud, the "I love you's" came from all directions, and so did flowers. Roses, vibrant red roses that reminded you of Kabu. You sat down, a big smile on your face that only managed to be genuine knowing Kabu would see it. "How are you on this beautiful night, Champ?" The interviewer asked.

"I'm doing great, thank you! I actually have somethin' to say real quick, is that alright?" The interviewer furrowed his brows and pointed towards the camera you should speak to.

"Let's hear what (Name) needs to say folks! I wonder what it is! Sounds mysterious!"

"Perhaps it would be mysterious if paparazzi didn't exist," You responded. "I want to say I'm thinking about you, I'll see you soon!"

"Would my guess be wrong if I say that message was for your to-be husband and Fire Type Gym Leader Kabu!?" The interviewer raises your hand, the one that had the ring. "How is the wedding planning going anyway? Any progress?"

"Its somewhere in my schedule, we have ideas we hope to bring to life." The answer was simple and clearly not to the interviewers' taste. They had to remain unaffected though and continued smiling.

"We have a few fan questions we would like you to answer! First one being, would you date a fan?!"

"Absolutely not. I'm engaged, are you people not getting the memo?" You said this sarcastically, but with a tone of seriousness. It got you a laugh from the audience and you laughed along with them as truthfully as you could. "Not to be inappropriate or anything but I think— no. I know I'll be with Kabu for the rest of my life."

Kabu was almost as red as Gym outfit shirt, hearing the "Aww" from both the crowd in the Stadium and the ones where you were. In all honesty though, he would have said the exact same thing about you.

"A curious fan has asked: Do you sing in the shower?" You didn't think for long and answered it with a brief nod.

"I do sing in the shower, Kabu says it sounds good but I think he may just be losing hearing." Once again, the crowd laughed. "Who knows though, only he has ever heard me sing and no, I'm not singing!"

"You and Kabu live together as you've implied multiple times, has there been any mishaps in the kitchen by one of you?" You pondered on this question for a few seconds.

"Not yet, Kabu is a pretty good cook and surprisingly good baker!" You tried to think of an incident once again but nothing came to mind as of now.

"Have you used the 'Is your Dad a baker' pick up line on him yet?" You chuckled at the question and so did the crowd. You covered half your face as you nodded, confirming that you have used a pick up line on him. "I didn't expect that! How'd that go?"

"He still has no idea what I meant by the line and I suppose now is a good time to get it out in the open." It took you a moment or two to compose yourself. "When I said you had a nice set of buns, I was talking about your butt, Kabu!"

He was sitting in the middle of his Stadium, on the ground and when you said that, he fell back laughing much more than he usually would allow himself to in front of a crowd. He should have known that's what you meant then, all he wished to say in response was that he felt the same way. He knows you would have playfully hit him on the arm or something and thank him for the compliment.

A few more questions passed until it was getting close to the countdown. There was an ad break a few minutes before it started. You didn't want to be here, your heart was telling you to leave, take a flying taxi, find Kabu, find home, and be where you know you want to be. You slowly got up from the waiting area, ignoring the calling security, interviewer, and anyone else you just left.

Ten.

You ran, forgetting you had a flying taxi even though you thought about it moments ago. You only had one thing on your mind and that was reaching Kabu before the countdown was over. You ran, your legs wanting to stop but you wouldn't allow it, your lungs trying to take in all the cold air, and the fancy shoes on your feet making it even more difficult. You stopped and took them off, hastily picking them up then running again. No rock on the ground was stopping you from being where you wanted to be tonight.

Nine.

When the show came back on, you weren't there and he was confused. Apparently you had left abruptly, this caused him to worry and tried getting a hold of you through a text then called you.

Eight.

Kabu didn't know you ran off, leaving your items behind with only one goal in mind. His destination was within your line of sight and it made you push forward much faster, pushing your legs harder to make it before the time ran out.

Seven.

He wanted to be able to at least to see you through the screen as the countdown started. Where did you go? Why did you leave? Were you even okay? Now all he could think about was your well-being.

Six.

You were jogging past the hair salon, the many small stores on the sides, some which had people. People watching the Champion run to the elevator that would take you to Motostoke Stadium.

Five.

No one asked questions as you walked in, your legs almost wanting to give in. You continued, waving off others that wanted to help you walk towards the doors to the Stadium itself.

Four.

You stood in the tunnel for a couple of seconds, your eyes searching for Kabu. He who was watching the screen, hoping for your appearance or any news on your location.

Three.

The crowd spotted you first, the loud cheers startling Kabu as his eyes met yours when he turned his head in your direction. He never felt more relieved to see you there, why you had disappeared made much more sense to a lot people now that you were here.

Two.

With all the strength you could muster in your legs, you practically limped forward. Absolutely tired by the run and feeling like a whole idiot for not using a taxi when you could have at any point on your way here. He saw you panting, no shoes on your feet, you looked like quite the beautiful mess.

One.

No words are exchanged as you throw your arms around his neck, holding him in a tight embrace before your lips passionately meet his. He was slightly taken aback by the roughness of the kiss, you had his body right against yours, and a hand clutching the hair on the back his head. How long had it been since he has had something like this? He had forgotten how amazing this physical contact could feel and experiencing this made him feel as if it was a first kiss. Then the clock strikes twelve, your hold on him loosens, and its just you and him.

Your forehead was on his, you two were sharing breaths because of how long and sudden it was. Embarrassment hit you randomly when you realized there was a crowd, you left an interview, and Kabu was probably staring at you while you didn't dare open your eyes. Not until you could look at him and say something that didn't sound like you didn't know how to form sentences.

You could hear the crowd now, the whistling, the clapping, the stomping of their feet, any form of cheering the could make they did it.

"Another year of you and me," He said. "I am looking forward to another one." He gave you one chaste kiss for his own pleasure and you smiled.

"I look forward to another one too."

4. what are you looking forward to?

I'm looking forward to school starting again, even if it's just a weird hybrid of online/flipped classes, I miss my teachers and like, being productive. also if I'm in class I can't be worked borderline inhumane hours right…. right??

5. is there anyone who can always make you smile?

yeah, my roommate. she always either knows how to cheer me up, or blunders around trying to find the right method to the point that it's funny and I end up smiling anyway. she's really awesome like that.

7. what was your life like last year?

it had a lot of ups and downs. I had a great job, but the people I worked with eventually made it toxic and awful. I was doing really well in school, but stressed all the time, had an awesome relationship but kind of ruined it w my anxiety, and had serious roommate issues that made me afraid to leave my bedroom or even come home, sometimes. I remember a lot of very high highs and very low lows especially in the fall/winter of that year.

10. are you good at hiding your feelings?

well, yes and no… I don't tend to show a lot of emotion to begin with, but what I do show, I'm basically incapable of hiding, and apparently I'm a terrible liar bc my face gives me away.

I'm pretty alright… kind of anxious, kind of tired, but that's just been the status quo lately tbh.

I'm simultaneously like, the most confident and the most self-doubting person I know... like there are certain things I'm super certain of and times when I feel no shame, and there are others where I'll just shrivel into a ball of anxiety and mortification and never come out. in the same vein, I'm simultaneously very trusting and open and very wary and cautious with people… it really depends on the situation and the person I think, I'm a very "you get out what you put in" person.

yeah, I’m still holding onto things I’ve wanted to tell certain people tbh… I used to be a lot more forthcoming and not worry about the consequences of what I had to say, but now that I’ve seen what power words have to ruin relationships and impact people I tend to hold back quite a bit.

I have… many, but I understand that I shouldn't and am working on the ones I do have. I think feeling insecure can lead to some of the most ugly, toxic emotions and responses in certain people, so I'm trying to be conscientious of that.

2. I've got a lot of outdoorsy skills bc of my gym class in high school, like rock climbing, kayaking, building fire, etc. I'm not super adventurous in my daily life but while I was in that class, I did all kinds of things.

3. for awhile I worked at a cat cafe, and helped take care of the 12-15 rescue cats we'd have there at any given time. I stand by that it was the best job I've ever had, but the people I worked with, not so much.

I have a vague memory… of helping my mom in the garden of my old house when I was a little kid, mostly just digging in the dirt in the spring and being outside with my family… it's not very clear or specific but I think those days were some of the happiest of my life.

I joined in 2012 bc my friends told me to, had a brief recession where I didn't use it at all, and a pretty lengthy sidetrack through the RP community, and then I came back bc of the friends I'd made here, and the unique-ness of the platform that I kinda can't find anywhere else. I'm stuck here just like the rest of y'all. 

60. ask me anything you want (which do you prefer between KNB and Haikyuu?)

now this is a tough one… bc I really love them both a lot, and tbh in terms of quality of writing, art/animation, thematic music, character development and general story, I think Haikyuu!! has KNB beat, buuuuuut…. in spite of its flaws, I have such a soft spot for KNB and I keep coming back to it over and over again even as it falls into relative obscurity. It's the only thing I write for anymore and I'm still, somehow, utterly obsessed with the characters I first fell in love with over five years ago. KNB has problems, for sure, but the things it gets right (like setting a mood, strong emotional beats and character relationships) it knocks out of the park. I don't know if I could ever choose one over the other in terms of like, "you can only read/watch one of these and have to give up the other forever", but in terms of which has had the biggest impact, and still hits me the hardest, I'd probably have to go with KNB… but it's not by any means an easy choice.

So let's start with Throcky of When the Waves Kiss the Trees!

- Kalem "Throcky" Throckmorton started as a joke based on those posts that went around a while ago about the math problems that included "my cousin Throckmorton." My friend asked me to have a side character named Throckmorton in exchange for...something. I honestly can't remember it's been a couple years I think ajfnnzfn BUT!! I agreed, and thus Throcky was born.

- At the beginning of WTWKTT, Rute doesn't know he's a changeling. He's still stuck in the human form his fae mother put him in. However! The city he's currently living in has started to industrialize, and as factories pop up, he begins to get sick. A sudden rise in the iron around you will do that, I suppose!

- The doctors are like "get some fresh air!" and his mom, instead of taking him to the park or smth idk, is like "you're gonna go live with your reclusive cousin and his goats for a while" and Rute, deliriously ill, is just like "yeah ok makes sense"

- Everyone give a round of applause to Throcky for nursing Rute back to health!

- More info about Throcky! He basically has a backyard farm where he keeps mostly chickens and goats. Sometimes something else wanders into the yard and he's like "well I guess you live here now"

- He has a fat grey tabby named Celery! She's a menace and we love her.

- Along with his animals, he's got a baller garden. It extends to inside his house bc holy shit, that's a lot of plants, sir--

- He makes a KILLER rosemary bread (among other things. Honestly Throcky is husband material the more I think about it.)

- He has a milk delivery service! Once a week he'll deliver goat milk to folks in town and also! To the castle! He'd do it more often but he's just one guy. (Rute eventually helps out with deliveries and that's how he meets Oliver 👀 Goat Milk Said Gay Rights!)

- Throcky got this little house away from everyone to be ALONE okay people are TOO MUCH all he needs are his GOATS and his CHICKENS and CELERY

- Honestly tho he cares way too much. He loves his family and he loves the people he delivers to, he just also loves having a place alone to retreat to at the end of the day. Classic introvert. Anyway stan Throcky

Okay! Now on to Midwest Monster Hunting WIP!

- So first of all I'm currently hyperfixating on The Witcher so jot that down

- Second of all, this takes place in Ohio, and Ohio (as described by my partner) is a strange lovechild of the Midwest and the South so. Jot that down as well

- It's still in the planning stages, but! What I'm thinking is, at some point humans kinda decided "so we don't feel like giving our children to the fae anymore, this seems Fucked Up. We're hardy folk we can totally take whatever punishment you decide to dole out" (now that I'm thinking about it like. How very American of y'all)

- The fae, of course, Don't Like Not Getting What They Want, and so oops! They "accidentally" unleashed otherworldly monsters into our world! HOWEVER if u give us ur babies we'll train them to fight and kill these monsters to protect you 👀

- Humans are like. Shit. I guess you got us. Have our babies. Never mind that you're gonna keep releasing more monsters so that we keep giving you our children. This is Fine.

- The monster hunters will eventually get a Cool Title but I'm not that far yet

- There are a few main faerie courts in this story! We've got the seasonal courts (spring, summer, autumn, winter) and the celestial courts (sun, moon, stars). If you give your kid to one of the seasonal courts, you'll probably definitely see them again once they've been trained up! If your kid ends up in a celestial court.....well, they'll be damn good monster hunters and the pride of your town if they survive!

- OH ALSO your kid isn't gonna come back looking the same. In general, their hair is gonna look more like....like if they were fae that grew up in that court. They're gonna have cat eyes to better see in the dark. There's gonna be an otherworldliness to them. Also they'll probably be sporting a new name. Apologies.

- The story follows Avery (name pending, I'm not entirely attached to it), a monster hunter from the Court of the Moon; Antonia Figueroa, one of the more prominent local witches; and Javi Justiniano, this weird person who just has weird magical things happen around them more often for some fuckin reason idk I totally dk but that's Spoilers

- They will all kiss. Eventually. Listen I like slow burn in theory but it's so hard to write I'm so impatient I just want them to KISS--

- Avery doesn't exactly....kill the monsters. Unless he HAS to (ie it's fatally wounded when he gets there). What he does in most cases is sedate them, and then put them in a pocket dimension he creates for that kind of monster to thrive in. Is this a power he learned in the Court of the Moon? Possibly. That's a cool idea

- If someone wants like, Proof that he killed it, he'll just glamour a rock or smth to look like a tooth or an eye or w/e

- Of course, once you've created like. A TON of pocket dimensions. Something's gonna notice, and that Something probably won't be too keen on you playing with the fabric of reality so much. Also you're gonna get tired I feel like

- Antonia (aka Toni) is the local witch, and thus helps monster hunters by creating sedatives for the monsters, or making antidotes for various monster venoms, or breaking curses. Among other things!

- She knows how Avery works and like, she's worried about him, but she helps him anyway. She doesn't stop telling him that he's gonna get himself killed this way, tho!

- Javi seems to attract magical phenomena, but also, monsters seem to be drawn to them and become calmer around them. They don't know why, but like, if a monster flies in through their bedroom window and curls up to go to sleep in their bed, they're just gonna let it, y'know? Maybe give it a pat. Feed it some Oreos or smth. Can weird flying monsters safely eat Oreos?

- There will be adventures! There will be demons in the corn! There will be cool monsters! There will be Gay! There will be polyamory! What's not to love?
