Big Wolf On Campus was such a great show! :D
Oh my Gosh, you watched it? People i know look at me like i have 5 heads when i bring up things i used to watch.
I think I used to watch a lot of the shows airing on that channel back in the day.
The kind of annoying show Angela Anaconda I believe was on that one, and like strange days at blake holesey high? which i think was canadian (rumored to have daniel clarks brother in it) and I saw a familiar face from one of those RFR or degrassi era crossover kinda kids on (or from lifetime movies), also a music driven talent kind of show with fergie's band wild orchid (? for clarity) which was pre-black eyed peas on most saturday mornings. i recall that show being ultra corny tbh, cringier than star search from the 90s, and lastly i remember some show about s club (a band at the time) where they'd sing and have random adventures in miami, florida for some reason and they're like European with thick euro accents but high energy singing and such, i loved them and was obsessed naturally, and still bop to them if they come on spotify.
At night like on my dinky vhs tapes, i would tune in or record movies like Casper meets Wendy (with a young Hilary Duff) or whatever they had on, during their October blocks of Halloweenish shows and films which they still do when they changed over to ABC family & now more recently Freeform.
Aw so nostalgic right now, such good times in the late 90's and early 2000's. Thanks for messaging me, I don't feel so alone in remembering that show.💌😊
#asks#stardustviolet#💌 tysm for the ask#i guess i wanna say with all this remember: i may love a lot shows made by canadians and stuff but i live in the USA lol#and like idk if these shows were made for us audien or were like brought to use thru merger like with the-n/teennick or viacom/abc idk tbh!#no clue tbh but yeah i'm american so i saw this stuff on cable#2000s#shows#tv#abc family#fox family#tadio disney used to play a lot of the music from these shows#especially sclub#i guess they had a deal with their record compay#idk if there were commercials#i no longer have those tape recordings#if i still do i have no vhs or why to convert#none of these shows are steaming haha#but like its just funny that some people share similar memories!#my friends and i used to make up dances for sclub songs when it was on#like we had legit crushes on the dudes#cringe#90s/00s era fox/abc family/freeform was so different/low budget than it is now#still plays 700 club at night and then i switch channels lmao idk don't wanna know! why do they do that?#might wanna rewatch the fosters soon though my bf and i were talking about it yesterday

forgive me if this is equivalent to a "cornplate tweet" but i just noticed that drv3's setting as a school in poor condition acts as a symbol of franchises dragging on so long for the sake of commercialization to the point it becomes a shell of its former self. the setting being a school that is not only old enough for it to become broken and fragile but also for nature to take over it, plus despite what makes the building recognizable as a school fading away, it continues being used as a school? the school is representative of franchises in general but especially the in-game danganronpa series, with the nature burying the building by time hinting at the franchise's (unnecessary) longevity and it becoming history, while the fragility of the building represents how a franchise's identity becomes fragile itself due to the charm and depth it was once defined by fading away due to the series being dragged out.... i love the drv3's setting even more now
#this was probably the most obvious thing ever but i admit that i dont focus on That commentary as much as the commentary on#fiction and lies & truth. so my eyes were opened too late....#ive always loved the drv3's setting. its so unique to me and its pleasant to look at. but also its clever!!!!!!!!!!!!#ive always thought it was clever in the “oh the building is old like danganronpa”#but i never really considered more to it until recently! Maybe im looking into it too much idk#drv3#danganronpa v3#sunny's thoughts#sunny.txt#dr thoughts#danganronpa#edit: i think using “commercialization” was maybe the wrong word? but at least people are getting what i mean!

Patrick Troughton - billed as Pat - helps the stricken French nobility (and flashes the audience) as Sir Andrew Ffoulkes, a staunch ally of the title character in The Adventures of the Scarlet Pimpernel (ITP, 1955 - 1956)
#fave spotting#patrick troughton#the adventures of the scarlet pimpernel#doctor who#classic doctor who#two#itp#itc#1955#I've had a nice rhythm going lately with pairing a 50 min series (usually The Saint these days‚ tho not for much longer...) with a shorter#25 min one to dip into when I've less time or whatever. with The Adventurer over (adieu and farewell Gene Bradley you insane#multi talented everything) i thought I'd change it up a little and go for a much earlier itc series for a different tone. so early in fact#that they weren't even ITC yet; the company was then known as the Incorporated Television Programme Company‚ ITP for short‚ but be not#fooled; this is in every way the Lew Grade led company that would come to dominate the commercial tv world in the decades to follow#The Adventures of Robin Hood is usually identified as the first ITC production but in fact it beat this series to the screen by only#3 days and the two shows were presumably in production simultaneously. Hood went on to be the making of ITC and Lew Grade and lasted#a whopping 143 episodes over 4 years; Pimpernel made it to only 18 despite being planned as a 39 part series (standard length for these#early itc shows). exactly what went wrong i dont know; Goring was heavily involved in production as well as starring and maybe that played#a part‚ or maybe the popular success of Hood meant this show was no longer affordable. idk im just speculating but from#what I've seen it's fairly fun. starting on ITV just a week after the network commenced transmission‚ it's safe to say this didn't capture#the public imagination like Hood did and it does seem to have been rather forgotten about. Pat is actually a series regular and these#pics come from a few different eps among the first few. he isn't in the very first (nor is the Pimpernel's other faithful companion#played by Anthony Newlands) and i do wonder if that was a pilot (it has Robert Shaw as the Pimpernel's right hand and to my#knowledge he doesn't reappear; he'd make up for it with a starring role in one of ITC's next series‚ The Buccaneers#but yes he's here and he's fantastic and gets to be dashing and heroic (tho never moreso than Goring of course). he's also the one of the#three heroes who best suits the powdered hair look (Newlands looks quite unfortunate). and of course i know what im doing with that#last shirtless pic.. you're welcome Pat girlies (gender neutral)#maybe I'll make another post after I've seen a few more eps but i wasn't going to commit to a Pat post for every episode im afraid

It's been like a week since I watched it and I'm still digesting Transformers One
#Keep in mind the only other pieces of TF media I've ever consumed are the 1986 movie where optimus fucking dies and bumblebee 2018.#so I can say with some authority that I 'don't go here' and I'm approaching canon as an outsider#But how did the writers and director WANT me to feel about the ending? Like actually.#Am I supposed to bummed out JUST because D-16 and Orion Pax as we know them are dead? and their friendship unsalvagable?#Sure. But beyond that. I couldn't shake the discomfort that Cybertron remains a theocracy.#Optimus was given absolute power by robot god. There was no popular consensus. There is still a major physical power imbalance between#primes and all other transformers. Even though Optimus might have only the purest of intentions I cannot celebrate his victory.#The cybertronian political system needs a complete overhaul and separation of church and state.#The movie ended and I was left with a sinking feeling that there were pressing issues that were not being addressed.#All is not right in Iacon City. And I don't know if I was supposed to pick up on that or not.#Am I giving this PG toy commercial movie too much credit? Probably. But part of me thinks we were supposed to notice.#idk. pretty good movie. also bumblebee was there#ayy im talking here

":))) so I teamed up with Brand :))))..." why are influencers incapable of telling the whole truth about anything
#you were PAID bro. you were PAID. and you probably dont give a FUCK about this product#you're acting like this is some authentic version of yourself when it's LITERALLY an advertisement#like we don't assume an actor in a commercial is obsessed with the product they're demonstrating#why are you trying to fool me into thinking this is any different#aren't commercials obligated to clarify if they are paying for fake actor testimonies lol#like why aren't youtube losers under the same type of obligation#anti consumerism#i guess idk i just fucking hate influencers

I have to laugh every time this show briefly turns into a 5 second car commercial with a weird angle slowly showcasing a glossy new jeep or truck in a way that cinematographically disrupts the narrative of the scene like. Ok automotive product placement 🙄
#9-1-1#and it’s always Buck or Bobby or Eddie ‘s vehicle and honestly I dont entirely agree with their vehicle choices bc of how much like a car ad#they read like. ok while trucks are not the most accessible choice for getting in and out of sure Eddie grew up around trucks and hes#from Texas I will allow it. but idk if I fully buy Bobby being the type of guy to drive one of those child eater brand new pickups#like. he’s practical and those ARENT for suburban life. can’t put bulk orders of groceries in the back in LA weather. and black?? in#in that climate???? be so real. and again. the safety aspect of poor visibility for children or pets in front of it?? that guy?? and I#don’t think he’s the type who needs a truck to reinforce his masculinity#Buck IS a shiny jeep guy tho that I fully believe#they are not shooting car commercials for hen or chimney’s cars but as I recall they were normal practical vehicles that made sense

when was the original advertisement even made LOL jasper is still alive here
#i forgot he was in the trailer. i always assumed it was after his death LOL#definitely inbetween jasper dies at the end and dial m for jasper. but im more surprising hed be willing to help in the commercial#maybe after jasper dies at the end hed gradually start disliking the camp. little by little seeing the flaws and disliking it more#he does say “man this camp. this camp kinda sucks” its where he first sees that. but maybe doesnt fully believe it#hes rational but i do think hes a somewhat optimistic. maybe an off screen event caused him to really dislike the camp LOL#this couldnt have been before the staff ceremony because davey wouldve HATED doing it#if it were the case. during the recording hed try to look like he hated the camp as much as possible. thinking hes sabotaging them LOL#wonder why they would even record this in the middle of summer too. like sure campbell probably wanted more kids to enroll#more people = more money. but for people to see this. consider sending their kids there. getting all the paperwork done#thatd take a bit wouldnt it LOL idk what his thinking process would be. especially with kids enrolling in camps earlier in the summer

Hilarious how lots of conservatives think resistance against change is actual resistance and not just them clinging to the status quo.
#Like you ARE the status quo bitch#Idk how to explain that trying to keep the status quo is not resistance#Because people who are not chronically online don't actually look at traditional modes of living and expression#and expect you to change your personal life and the machinations of it#Even in the craziest liberal world where there's LOTS of queer people#Or any religion that's not Christianity goes mainstream#Like it's not revolutionary to say something like “actually gay people bad :) ”#Because people were thinking that (AND STILL THINKING that) not so long ago#And gay people haven't absolutely taken over everything the way straight people have culturally#Gay people are just in more movies and commercials now#And if you think straight people have never taken over#You need to know that that's because it's never called as as being specifically straight in our culture#It just gets called “marriage”#People don't feel the need to specify when it comes to straight people BECAUSE IT'S A STATUS QUO#IT'S EXPECTED#Tl;Dr seeing change to the status quo and working against that change isn't revolution/resistance#because the typical mode of life within that status quo will never actually be seen as weird and crazy#Of course I'm thinking about Elon Musk while typing this up and for some reason he thinks pumping out babies like his mass produced shit ca#Should be the norm and he thinks it's somehow comparable to that of a very normal nuclear family with a mom and dad and kids and a retrieve#Anyway I'm gonna stop this ranting diatribe because you get the idea#leftism#???#elon musk is an idiot#stream of consciousness

rewatching squid game. why on earth did everything that happened to this show happen
#why of all the shows did this one become so outstandingly popular with 6-12 year olds on roblox. imagine if elementary schoolers decided to#suddenly get into idk breaking bad instead and people were buying mike ehrmentraut costumes for their little timmy#its just so. 1 the show itself is so antiethical to the crazy commercialization that happened and 2#how did kids even get exposed to this as a concept it is so hyperviolent and adult not just in a content warning way but#in a “there are higher concept themes and awareness of media analysis required to understand the show” way#.txt

Did anyone else find the amount of pop culture/branding references in tmntmm jarring?
#it felt like the 'hello fellow kids' meme idk#there were references to: avengers endgame ~ attack on titan ~ tiktok ~ forza horizon ~ ratatouille ~ godzilla ~ mark ruffalo#and mike even twerked lol#*flashbacks to 2014 disaster*#it was weird to see so many commercial references and i don't even like some of those properties so it tainted the movie#why couldn't it just. not do that? it kinda felt like the screenwriters were fifteen y/o themselves and just super into consumerism#and it took away from the escapism aspect of the movie which is why people watch a dang movie about mutant turtles in the first place#that said i liked how they were actually dumb teenagers lol i feel like they were too old in many of the older releases#tmnt mm#tmnt mutant mayhem

I feel very uncomfortable abt the Fred Astaire biopic given he absolutely did not want one to happen and was extremely clear about that. If it ends up happening I will 100% think less of everyone involved including Tom, it is a sign of extreme disrespect imo and Tom does not need the money it is just a fuck you I can do what I want, akin to spitting on FA's grave.
I think the problem with Tom Holland isnt his agent because lets be real, his agent and team are excellent. I think from interviews etc Tom is not that interested in film as an art form, doesn't seem aware of indie or foreign directors doing interesting work, and is pretty anti-intellectualism in general. So when he tries to "go indie" he tries to go for projects that seem gritty or interesting on paper, but end up flopping and coming across "THIS IS ACTING, TAKE ME SERIOUSLY." Tom has the power to approach indie directors he likes and get movies funded for him to star in like Robert Pattinson with Safdies, Claire Denis, etc etc. But Tom is not the type to know who Claire Denis is. He should work with someone like Jeremy Saulnier, that is my advice to him lol
I totally respect your uncomfortable feelings about it as a topic, anon! You're right, Astaire was clear about not wanting a bio pic on his life, because he - in his own words - never wanted to feel misrepresented, and any adaptation or exploration of his life as a result feels inherently disrespectful of that wish.
At the same time though - - I don't know. I guess I tend to have two questions about a bio pic, which is a) what is its purpose? and b) who's it for?
(Full disclaimer: I don't disagree with you - I just also have mmm, a mixed bag of feelings on the topic, I guess, haha.)
So let's talk a little about bio pics
Because it's an interesting conversation, right? They've always been a staple of filmmaking, both for better and for worse, and I do think they vary a lot as a genre. Some of them are naked mouthpieces for the individual or their estate, some are ways to enshrine or disparage an historical figure, some are about capitalising on a current popular trend, some are ways to explore a historical movement or era, to lend it greater understanding or cultural context through a particular person, or to keep an important figure from being forgotten or remembered in a way people with a vested interest might not want them to be remembered, and hell, sometimes I think a bio pic is just about telling an interesting story.
Does intent matter? Yeah, I think so, and I can understand why, in that context, intent can feel immediately malicious when the person a story is based on or inspired by was against the idea, but I don't necessarily think that's automatically the case.
I guess, in that sense, that brings it back to who a bio pic is for. I actually tend to think bio pics are at their worst when they're for the person they're about. Like, I enjoyed Elvis as a piece of entertainment, but as a bio pic it fails on more counts than it doesn't, in no small part because it was for Elvis. It was for his legacy, his daughter and grandchildren, his diehard, uncritical fans, and, in my more cynical moments, for Graceland too. It was about reinforcing a legacy instead of truly exploring it.
And exploring it is important. Good bio pics can help to shed more light and bring a deeper understanding to crucial moments and figures in history, and how someone wants to be represented or understood in that I don't think is entirely their decision. We don't exist in a vacuum; our stories, our histories, the roles we play in the world, aren't ours alone to dictate the terms of. We play roles in other peoples lives, from those who know us, and in the case of many public figures, those who know of them, and to make the decision unilaterly that our legacy can't be explored beyond us is I think both naive and potentially dangerous.
I don't know. It is complicated, and I'm not even saying that I'm entirely comfortable either with the fact that it's happening, especially given there are two Astaire bio pics in the works right now (ironically the other one's cast Jamie Bell, which is kind of funny from a Billy Elliot trivia standpoint), but like I said in my last post, I don't know if I believe that Astaire's wishes should stand so resolutely as others. After all, the law doesn't recognise that stipulation, and if it did, what would there be to stop other people using that as a sort of media gag to prevent critical bio pics that challenge the legacy of a public figure i.e. the counter point to Elvis being able to be this year's Priscilla?
I guess I'm saying that our histories might feel like a thread that belongs to us, but they're ones stitched into the fabric of time and of culture. They inform relationships and families, and in Astaire's case an artform and an industry, and to me, I don't think that means that he owes anyone more than what he gave in his lifetime, but I do think a version of his story lives beyond him - both in the lives he touched and the culture he influenced - and for better and for worse, that's not something he'll ever have complete control over.
Let's talk about Tom Holland
I agree and I disagree on this front - as a total cinephile, I truly feel the pain of him not having known who Pedro Almodóvar was in that one interview, haha, but I don't necessarily think that's an issue. After all, it's literally what he has an agent and a manager for. They should be looking at talent across the board and guiding him towards people they think he'd work well with, especially given he has worked with indie directors before - like, gosh, Kornél Mundruczó was the establishing director on The Crowded Room, and Antonio Campos directed The Devil All the Time.
But you're right - the projects aren't right, and I don't think that it helps that he doesn't seem to be well versed in cinema enough to be able to articulate what it is that he likes and doesn't like, and I also don't think that it helps that he skews young and doesn't really match the styles of the directors he's said he wants to work with (Tarantino in particular I think he doesn't fit the type for, but in looking up a couple of things to reply to your ask, I found out he did meet with Bong Joon Ho last year who I actually think could be a good fit for him).
I like your picks for directors a lot though! I think you're right about Jeremy Saulnier in particular. and while I'm not his biggest fan, I think Justin Kurzel could have a really interesting role for him in that sort of similarly masculinity-soaked indie vein. I also think (and gosh, these aren't even that indie these days, haha) Alex Garland, Karyn Kusama, Dan Gilroy and Marielle Heller would be interesting directors for him.
And while they're not indie, I do also think he'd do well in a Coen Brothers or a Baz Luhrmann.
But who knows at this point. He certainly runs the risk of being Peter Parker forever right now.
#funnily enough his agency according to imdb is curtis brown#who i actually met with a couple of times as a writer#(well the au office)#and the agent i was meeting with just did not get my stuff at all and she kept saying she liked my writing but asking me if i had#anything else to send#and i got to a point where i didn't#and i was like 'okay#cool guess i need to work on stuff'#and then i got my current agent and was published by a big five and she came knocking again#which was wild#but then i spoke to industry people and they were like oh yeah cb is really commercial#like they're looking for broad appeal which your writing style isn't necessarily#so idk if that's interesting to think of in the terms of how they might be advising him?#again this was the au office though not the uk one#and obviously writers not actors haha#probably very different#industry asks#welcome to my ama
