Do you ever think about whether Oda ever received a call in the middle of the night from Dazai? How Oda knew dazai was just too stubborn to ask anyone for help. Maybe just once he was worried about the kid, he said ‘to call him if he ever needed him, he didn’t even have to tell him why, if dazai called him he’d go and get him, any time, anywhere’. How Dazai brushed it off with a joke, but one night Oda receives a call in the middle of the night and when he sees the caller ID his heart drops, and as promised, Oda gets in the car and speeds out to get Dazai without a single word needed to be spoken. Do you ever think about how many nights Oda might have lost sleep because he was worried about this kid? and how he’d never forgive himself if he needed him but he wasn’t awake to pick up his call? Do you ever think about how oda might have looked at this boy and thought “how can they not see he’s just a kid? How can they see him as a demon? As a monster? All I see is a scared, alone little kid. How can they not see this? How can they not think it’s inhumane to let him live in a literal metal container?” Ever think how he saw the empty eyes of this kid and wanted to take him in? Give him a warm meal? A hug? A real bed? Ever think how he must’ve felt knowing he was his only real friend, and how he must have felt when he was dying in this kids arms, this lonely, sad, messed up kids arms, leaving him behind? How he cared so deeply about this kid that his final words were to plea him to get out of that darkness, to seek light? Ever think about how proud he must be of this kid, now grown, for staying alive and taking in other lost children the way he wanted to take him in? Ever think of that?

Why Mori indirectly killed Oda + Why he led Dazai out of the pm

A very short analysis

Killing Oda was the most logical solution, it was; to kill a lower member or to kill more pm members that possibly were higher rank, it didn’t make sense, and even Dazai in the light novel dark era recognized it:

Dazai glances at the at the muzzle still pointed at his face, following which, he turns back towards the center of the room, standing right in front of Ougai, quietly speaking. “I’ve been thinking. Between the mafia, Mimic, and the Black Special Ops Forces, who is the one manipulating these three organizations? When I realized Ango was a member of the Special Ability Department, I reached a conclusion. That conclusion was that this is the Special Ability Department’s plan. Their motive was to let the mafia and Mimic, two illegal organizations causing the government a headache, to kill each other off. If they were lucky, they would both perish together – I thought this was a playbook written by the Special Ability Department, that this was the real reason behind this war. But I was wrong.” Dazai pauses after these words, looking at Ougai. Ougai smiles, shrugging his shoulders, “I’m listening.” “The person who painted this picture was you, Boss. Using the illegal organization Mimic as a threat, you pulled the Special Ability Department onto the negotiation table. And the pawn in the center of this plan was Ango.” Dazai speaks with half lidded eyes. “Boss, the reason you sent Ango to infiltrate Mimic’s ranks was not to obtain information on Mimic. Because you knew that Ango was a spy from the Special Ability Department from the very beginning. Am I right?” Ougai does not affirm or refute this, only saying, “Huh.” “If you think about it that way, the meaning behind several truths will change accordingly. At the same time Ango passed us insider information on Mimic, he had to pass that information on to the Special Ability Department as well. They are undead ghosts that will not listen to negotiations or compromises, only seeking a battlefield. Such danger cannot be compared to the mafia. If this went on any further, conflict would break out between them and the government agencies. This is what the Special Ability Department thought. The next thing they thought of was to fan the flames of war between Mimic and the Port Mafia, manipulating matters by leaking information to Mimic through Ango. As long as Mimic bites the hook, the mafia has no reason not to fight back. By what they talk about, its pretty obvious that Dazai recognized it was a logical solution, yet he had got very attached, Dazai has little to no problems in using people, but the problem was that Dazai had got too attached with Oda. Not to mention that getting the envelope was beneficial to the port mafia, it was like getting rid of two birds with a stone or however it is said, and as I've said a lot of times, Mori goes to the option that benefits everyone in Yokohama or at least to the pm.

He is called "The one who fell to the optimal solution" isn't he?

Why Mori led Dazai out of the pm

This is more of what I believe but I still wanted to include it

Mori led Dazai out of the pm because of two reasons:

He was afraid Dazai would aspire to take his position as a boss

He wanted Dazai to learn a lesson

It's mentioned that he is afraid of Dazai so we aren't going to talk about this topic right now, but about the lesson topic; Mori wanted Dazai to become more like him in case Dazai were to take the boss position, but Mori didn't thought that Dazai had grown that attached to Oda, and while Dazai did recognize that killing Oda was the most logical solution, he didn't like it, he would have preferred that more members had lost their lives than Oda losing his, and therefore to Mori; Dazai didn't want to learn the lesson.

Thoughts on the hc that Dazai has a glass eye?

I'm just imagining Dazai getting injured on a case on his blind side, and Kunikida berates him and drags him to Yosano.

And Yosano is like "Really, again? How did it happen this time?" And Kunikida says "Idiot wasn't paying attention."

Dazai "No I was, its just my blind side."

And they both freak out because why? How? Huh? But his eye looks fine?

Yosano: Well, I can schedule an appointment and we can see if we can get you surgery or something-

Oh my gosh alsksjdjfjf honestly I think this hc is great just for that potential moment of screaming confusion on Kunikida’s part, Dazai absolutely would do that XD

I guess in general I haven’t thought much about the implications of Dazai bandaging that eye! I know I’ve definitely seen fics and stuff where his vision is off in that eye in one way or another (@feralrookie wrote a fantastic soulmate AU where Dazai’s soulmark is on that eye and it gutted me in the best way). I think it’s really fun to see where different people go with it :0

I do think it’s interesting that he swaps which eye he bandages in the Beast universe…that feels like it has Implications but I’m not sure what they are, I’m not very skilled at analysis lol —Although, slightly related, I do love the moment in the Dark Era where Oda pulls those bandages off as he dies, because it seems like a visual representation of how much Dazai was hindering himself in the mafia (seriously, if there isn’t anything wrong with that eye, that means the dude was shooting guns without precise depth perception seemingly just for the heck of it) and then Oda pulls them off as he tells him to go live in the light and just aaaaaaaaaaaaa I am never not going to be emotional about the dark era ;;

…anyway this got off topic, basically all this to say I think that I think it’s cool how many different interpretations of it there are, and you could definitely do a lot with the glass eye headcanon alskjdjdjd

It all depends the situation really. If he hasn't kidnapped you he'll probably want to do something with just you two he likes the attention on himself when it comes to you. If he has though theres a lot more to it then him just wanting to spend some time with you :). I have complied a list of Dazai's top 3 favourite things to do with you in captivity! 3. He likes to just talk sometimes :) its mainly one of the only things you could do when chained to a wall

Boo! – How do they feel about surprises, giving and receiving?

You can't suprise this man. He finds suprises amuzing depending on what it is. I think Dazai would be a fan of giving if he's kidnapped you but if you gave him a gift he would be supppperrrrrr happy!! He doesn't know how you got a gift but he can ask you that later! He then smothers you in affection for the rest of the day.

Comfort – How do they comfort you when you’re upset? When the tables turn, do they come to you, or try to handle it themselves?

It tears his heart apart when he see's you all hurt and sad like that but if its because of a punishment then you'll just have to bear it until he's finished sulking if its because of someone else oh no! They tragically died or oh no! They tragically drove themselves to madness and commited suicide! If the tables turn you can't find Dazai anywhere! He wants to handle it himself but if its to much he may come to you for a headpat and cuddle maybe some words like 'I love you Dazai' would be nice as well!

Dance – Do they like to dance with you? How good of a dancer are they?

Hell yeah! Remember that one episode of the wan were there was like that dance competion? Instead of doing it with the agency he did it with you ! He still slays at dancing by the way.

Excitement – How do they act when they’re excited? What excites them?

You want to know what makes Dazai excited well simple anwser! Every. Single . Shitting. Thing. He's excited most of the time somehow, its more exaggerated than a normal person's excitement. But Dazai isn't normal so what did you expect?

Future – What are their plans for the future? Do they see themselves getting married, having kids?

Simple get married and then die with you. Thats all he wants really.

yes, chuuya's hypervigilance and dazai's dismissiveness of him illustrate how far dazai's gone and how unreachable he's become, expositing Dazai's route of self destruction and foreshadowing his suicide.

The fact that people insist that Oda had the best understanding of Dazai just because Dazai said he knew him best makes me understand just why the fandom has such a bad read on him.

The reason Dazai agreed with Oda's perception of him was because Oda didnt care that Dazai did the right or wrong thing, he was never gunning for the "you are better than this" or "stop trying to kill yourself" kind of concern. He was just letting Dazai be whatever without even an ounce of judgement and ultimately only reflecting Dazai's own self perception. But he was also looking at Dazai from the same perspective he used to look at himself. Seriously, I have seen people talk about how Oda understood Dazai better than anyone because he lived through similar events and had no light in his eyes or was a child assassin etc but that doesnt mean his perception of Dazai was good at all. He projected his own perceptions onto Dazai and like who even came to the fuckass conclusion that Oda had a healthy perception of himself???
