Tomorrow -Dabi x Reader

A/n: I must warn you... I'm rusty xD

It's not my usual writing style, for some reason I default to this when I'm trying to get out of a block? *shrugs*

Anyways here you go, I hope it's not too terrible. <3

General info:

Warnings!: hints(?) of Dabi's past, hinted nudity (showering together- not vividly described!), Dabi overusing his quirk, mention of shutting down when confronted, mentions of wounds, mention of slowing killing oneself (overusing quirk), idk what else? Please let me know if I miss anything!! <3

Heavy footprints alert you to Dabi entering through your apartment window, his eyes dark with exhaustion, his body covered in wounds. Most noticeably fresh *burns*. Your heart aches for him as you gently help him into your shared bedroom, he immediately slumps into you as you lead him to the bathroom.  

His eyes flutter open as you begin cleaning out his wounds, swiftly beginning to close again. You smile- all be it painfully as you tend to the man who stole your heart. You clean out all the visible cuts first, helping him up as you walk him into the shower.  

He slumps into you as you bathe him, your hands gentle and loving. Foreign to his rough past. He trusts you completely, falling asleep before flinching awake seconds later. You don’t say anything, yet. He’s exhausted, he needs rest before you scold him for his reckless behavior for the umpteenth time.  

You gently dry his hair, helping him into pajamas. You apply aloe vera to his burns, ignoring the hissing curses he mutters under his breath, weakly attempting to push your fast-working hands away.  

Once you’re finished you quickly pull on one of his baggy T-shirts, quickly finishing the necessities of your night-time routine. Lifting the covers up, you- with great difficulty- push Dabi into bed, his turquoise eyes too exhausted to even process what’s happening, he instinctively just melts into you.  

After several minutes you catch your breath before climbing in beside him, laying his head on your chest. He melts into you, wrapping his arms around your waist and burying his face into your chest.  

Mere seconds later he’s fast asleep, his entire body relaxing in the presence of what he cherishes most. 

When the morning comes, you’ll scold him for being so reckless- so *stupid*. He was slowly killing himself, and you were forced to watch it happen. You would, once again, try to convince him to forget about his father and run away with you- forget about the league, about society, about *revenge*.  

He would most likely shoo you away, stubbornly refusing to listen to you once again. He would brush away your concerns and worries, tell you how silly you’re being, and shut down if you pushed the matter. 

But for now, you could just hold him. He could rest, find peace, and be loved for the first time in a *long* time.  

The rest could wait until tomorrow.

I was a bit surprised to see that mhj specifically said that newjeans had approved the statement saying that belift had copied newjeans' concept with illit. I'm not the type of person that thinks that you're a bitch for asserting position or your value, so this isn't where I'm coming from, but, especially in an industry where it's so rare to see groups say anything negative about other groups, particular junior groups I would think, it was quite the strong, swift position to take. Do you foresee newjeans continuing to engage publicly with this scandal, and how would you think taking an active part in this would affect their brand?

I think these six asks capture most of the talking points in the asks I've received since yesterday, so I'll use these to answer your questions.

The sheer amount of spin happening in the media right now is ridiculous lmaoo. With the mention of BTS in the "escape files", ARMYs have predictably moved from shady bystanders to actively joining in the negative spin, spreading rumor articles and many are now attacking the girls themselves. But honestly, this is nothing less than what I expected. NewJeans is the most popular group in Korea, the 2nd most valuable IP only behind BTS, and Min Heejin is the brains behind the operation - an achievement she's insisted on taking full credit for since inception. Leaving the only option for whoever is masterminding this from within and outside HYBE, to destroy her reputation as an executive completely to diminish her value to outside investors, and weaken the fan support for NewJeans given how closely they are already associated with MHJ. And that's what is happening. It impacts every group at HYBE and nearly obliterates the viability of NewJeans.

For HYBE, it's a tolerable loss given there's only one year left before BTS returns and closes that earnings gap in mere months. Whoever took this action sees it simply as resulting in a numerical loss that can be soon corrected, but personally, I disagree, for the same reasons I objected to HYBE's acquisition of SM even though on paper it made numerical sense.

Anon in ask 1: I can understand your surprise but sad as it is to say, I expected that response from MHJ. She's a creative, not a PR exec or an MBA-credentialled suit. I'm not sure how familiar you are with ADOR's press releases in general, but anybody who reads them can tell there's almost no corporate doublespeak, no vague allusions, nothing that shows it's written by a typical media-trained PR person. Which is why most people, including you, take that statement to mean NewJeans agrees with MHJ that Illit copied them (it's a possibility), when in reality the language shows it could refer to them agreeing with MHJ's assertion that HYBE hasn't duly responded to her requests about inter-label discrimination, or other related matters. That's the kind of detail a trained PR person would be sure to include, to minimize the fallout to NJ, but just as with the press release on Cookie, the one on Minji's rival sasaeng, the response to Hyein's veneer rumours, and practically every press release ADOR has put out, the language is unsophisticated.

NewJeans has so far not engaged publicly with this scandal. MHJ has mentioned them to signal any separation between them will likely be contested. It's leverage. Anon in ask 2: I'd say that's not a conspiracy exactly but it is kinda pushing it. Anytime there's a stock dip it's a buying opportunity, and HYBE is always guaranteed to be a Buy so long as BTS is slated to return within 12 months of the stock event. But we simply don't have any clear indications that's the case now given the timing doesn't quite line up. If anything, that is more like the 4th order side-effect.

And yeah, people on the corporate side, not just in k-pop, are many times just that petty. But it's also true this case has been sensationalized in particular ways to appeal to k-pop stans specifically.

None of these options are good, but the worst of these evils is option 2. If the members attempt to leave with her, there's no pretty way to say this, but they'll be done. I'm not even going to waste time writing all the ways HYBE and k-pop stans as a whole will rip them to shreds, all I'll say is that whoever is attached to these girls should consider taking a 6 months sabbatical away from k-pop entirely once that news breaks. The law is not on their side and public opinion, especially after all the 'leaks' and spin from HYBE in the last 72 hours, certainly isn't on their side either. It would be career suicide.

Personally, I think yes. Every label at HYBE had similar initial monetary investment as NewJeans and ADOR had, and other groups from the Big 3 have had even bigger investments and resources at their disposal. There isn't a single group, both within HYBE and outside HYBE, that has yielded the same results as NewJeans in the same period of time. Illit comes close, but even with their achievements they haven't reached the same (positive) notoriety as NewJeans did at debut. All HYBE groups have access to HYBE's youtube channel, connections and resources, and yet the achievements of BOYNEXTDOOR, LE SSERAFIM, ENHYPEN, and even ILLIT, are nowhere near comparable to that of NewJeans. And I agree with MHJ that she's the primary reason why. Having access to resources is only one part of the equation. How you allocate those resources and what you do with it is far more important, and this is where MHJ and ADOR excels relative to other sub-labels.

NewJeans without MHJ will not be nearly as threatening to everyone else in k-pop, and I suspect this is one reason there have been calls for her to be removed from managing the group since their debut.

Anons in ask 3 & 6: Yeah there's a fair bit of greed on show here. Generally, for a lot of people in this industry, greed is good... unless the greedy person is a woman. Because the only thing more central to nasty corporate tussles like this, more than greed, is ego.

I'm not trying to play the gender card, but sometimes I do wonder why there are no articles like this about people like Jaden Jeong and Simon Jakob given the reputation those men have in corporate circles, where top officials (in this case, within HYBE) are saying they cannot possibly work with MHJ because she is "overly and excessively opinionated". I'm highlighting this article because despite the initial paragraphs of spin, that bit is the only thing consistent with MHJ's claim that this attack from HYBE started because she'd filed a whistleblowing report on toxic inter-label competition and followed up an email that said quote:

"..is this deliberate obtuseness and unapologetic behaviour consistent with HYBE's founding philosophy of rebelling against unfair practices in the entertainment industry?"

I mean... in corporate Korea, I can see how they were sick of her shit and it was only a matter of time before she got the boot.

The insidious thing about spin is that it mixes the truth with lies, making it easy for people to accept it wholly. It's entirely possible that MHJ wants more compensation, more autonomy and independence, feels that Belift and other companies borrowed her ideas without full credit, and that she was unsupported by HYBE HQ. It's entirely possible that she took actions such as monitoring fan feedback of the group(s) she suspects and filing a whistleblowing report to build a case - according to both MHJ and others at HYBE, these are complaints she's apparently had since last year, but none of those things would justify HYBE's response nor is it enough to turn people against her.

What I find particularly interesting about this case, is that everything that decisively incriminates her of the more sensational and sinister allegations, comes from the person of VP L or CEO A - a person who only joined ADOR in January 2024, shortly after which HYBE received their first tip-off that MHJ was planning to escape. It's VP L who titles documents with the equivalent of "TOP SECRET DO NOT TOUCH" on company computers... the same guy that's supposedly a double agent working in favour of MHJ and ADOR but is situated within ADOR, not HYBE, where simple logic shows he'd be most useful. Unless he's situated right where he's supposed to be.

Anyway...

HYBE has requested for a shareholder meeting on April 30th where they'll likely table the motion for MHJ to resign regardless of what's found in the audit. Far as I know, she's completed the audit questionnaire but not surrendered her laptop as HYBE has requested. Given the play is for HYBE to kick her out while continuing to manage NJ, I can see how she'd rather die than surrender her laptop and hand over her ideas (and potentially incriminating info) to HYBE on a silver platter for them to use in her wake.

Every way this shakes out is bad news for HYBE groups IMO. So long as NewJeans keeps quiet and sides with HYBE, they'll be somewhat okay. But regardless of the fallout from HYBE cannibalizing itself, all HYBE groups have no choice but to take it on the chin and bide their time until BTS comes back to capture the attention back to them.

I hope I answered all your questions. IMO there's really no point talking more about this until there's a firm conclusion.

which solo songs by the beatles would you say are their "best"? as in, great production, great structure, it shows off their strengths as musicians, etc... although i get it's totally subjective, which ones would *you* pick?

My Sweet Lord is genuinely like my favourite George song, but given its semi-plagiarizing and how simple it is, I think I can't call it his best outright, although it's his most iconic slide guitaring for a reason. A very strong contender would be Isn't It A Pity, which I think is absolutely gorgeous lyrically and incredibly effective musically. I've also always loved When We Was Fab as a Beatles pastiche and think it's amazing melodically and production-wise. I'd also say Run Of The Mill, which is emotionally and lyrically incredible and rhythmically very interesting. It keeps switching time signatures!!! I also kind of wanna say Someplace Else but I can't fully defend it, though. I'm also super partial to Who Can See It though I don't find that a typical George song at all, so I'm not sure it fits your criteria. (also bear in mind I haven't reached Brainwashed yet!!)

For Ringo, tbh I am going to say Vertical Man. this is a GREAT song that I feel really captures his character so well, the light whimsy and the dark undercurrent. It also really works for his voice and the drumming rocks. It's still not on my Spotify!!!!! KMS!!!!!

For John, I think the three songs I'd say my three favourite songs are (in no particular order) #9 Dream, Nobody Loves You (When You're Down And Out), and I'm Losing You (okay and also (Just Like) Starting Over) and I think those all demonstrate John's different lyrical strengths – the dreamy imagery, the sad resignedness, the bitterness – incredibly well, while all having quite excellent production. I think John is kind of underrated as a producer and a lot of the stuff he's credited on (and Spector is not credited on lol) has a great vibe and shows a lot of vision. I also might throw in Scared which I think is super overlooked and to also add a more stripped back song, I'd go with Isolation, which to me is kind of the core of Plastic Ono Band.

Paul has my definite favourite solo career, so it's hard to narrow it down fully. Band On The Run is probably my most basic answer but I do think it's just that good and definitely one of his most effective suites. I would also say Junk, which I think is pure poetry and musically perfect. Tug of War is probably my (co-)favourite Paul solo song but I've seen a lot of people call it too melodramatic. I sort of see what they mean, but I love the central image so much, how complicated it is. I also think Here Today is one of his strongest songs lyrically, actually. Okay, let's throw out a few more: My Brave Face is like peeeeeaaaak upbeat but sad breakup song and I love it to bits. It'll definitely end up on my spotify wrapped. I also think Distractions is one of Paul's most gorgeous melodies and the production is so cool to me. It also feels so sincere and romantic idk. ALSO, circling back to Tug of War the album, I wanna say: I think The Pound Is Sinking would 1000000000000% be a universally recognized masterpiece had it been on a Beatles album. It is the absolute sweet spot of Paul's abstract yet impactful lyricism. I also kind of wanna say Heaven On A Sunday though I find that, like Who Can See It, not that typically Paul per se. It and Warm and Beautiful are perhaps my favourite songs about Linda he wrote.

top 10 atrocious shtv plotline

let me preface by saying i do not hate shadowhunters. it camp demon fighting hot people in leather with not enough lighting and candles as regular guest stars. this list is my personal opinion, a little something something rage filled silly little rants of my favorite show and its clown moment. picture this as the inner monologue of the lead in an indie romcom who speaks in metaphors and has a letterbox account. so sit back, grab your set and stele because you will need so much iratze for your sanity.

10. magnus lost his magic

magnus is magnificent in everything, so that is why this plotline disappointed me. it has so much potential and they end up doing the bare minimum. there's no way magnus fricking bane has no one to rely on when he lost his magic besides alec. no fricking way. we should have gotten magnus to work out alec's deal with asmodeus by himself. i'm also of the opinion that magnus should be the one to figure out a way to get his magic back (there are lots of good fics exploring this, i recommend you check it out) it end up in this position cause overall it a good and interesting premise and magnus outsmarting his father and using his portal (something that magnus invented) to defeat him is a good conclusion

9. heidi took over dumort and planned to dominate the shadoworld

i mean this happened in the book, but it was given way way more screen time than necessary in the show. please dont tell me a newly born vampire is suddenly a master manipulator and leader and makes every vampire bend to her will. you're trying to be serious not comedy shtv. and how about we give all of heidi screen time to flesh out clary and magnus plotline in S3B more?? or idk, give the lightwood trio A PLOTLINE this season besides being the supporting partner

8. jordan redemption arc

he's an abuser. he's an abuser. HE IS AN ABUSER. we don't need him sobbing and crying and then ‘dying’ in front of maia. i loathe how for a second i thought they gonna make maia go back together with jordan again. the only good thing come out of it is maia getting somewhat closure, and i used that term loosely

7. the owl

jace spent S3A being mind controlled by lilith, struggling, begging to be killed, being mind control again, then free. he doesn't have a single moment after all that bullshit to process because oh we need the plot to move along and another fresh trauma has arrived at the jace station. and oh remember the soul sword thing??? when there's an attempt to write the payoff of jace unintentionally killing a bunch of people? i dont know about you but the show writers sure do not. the rules and influence of lilith over jace is so confusing it is ridiculously hilarious

6. alec and jace's parabatai bond

i've already done a recap of all the wonderful moments of jace parabatai career so i will keep this really simple. picture the parabatai bond as group final assessment. alec is pulling all-nighter, groupchat urging to finish tasks on time, one on one meetings with professor for feedback, two hours finalizing and fixing the final product. jace is "why do i have to do so much" and submitting work late two hours that don't pass the plagiarize check

5. team evil (evil clary + S3B jonathan)

i would like to remind you she turns fully evil in episode 18 and is cured of it in episode 20. they build this evil plotline up through clary burning her hand, snapping at simon once and losing it at aline (who btw i believe is justified in her rage how many people sebastian/jonathan/ginger incest bread have killed) clary turning evil means she now will sexily whisper her line, wear tighter/revealing dress and stare at people with smoldering eyes. because of course, evil female characters are like that. i also need writers for that clace scene in the club when jace's on seelie drug to answer for their crime against my sanity

4. merlion getting taken to the silent brothers

alec is shit for blindly following the clave's order, jace betrays his parabatai and along with izzy and clary conducts a stupid plan that can create an all-out war and involves two of the downworlder leaders in all that. also, magnus steal alec stele aka the acting head stele…because bad decision is infectious in this episode. considering how serious they’re trying to make the political aspect of the show to be, the fact that this exists. literally insane. this whole plotline is to highlight how clary is the hero who stands up for justice and morals and all of that when she the one contributing the least. she just stands around lets everyone do stuff for her and they're trying to convince us she's the hero. then she and jace fuck off to another dimension after roping people into their mess because that is what a good hero does.

3. alec's mental health

alec try to jump off that balcony and the only person they show having any concern over it is magnus in the next episode. oh no no, not even in that lightwood family talk in the same episode of the balcony thing, with you know, his mom and his parabatai, not a word. and the only one who says anything related to it is clary of all people. im convinced the whole alec killing off jocelyn is for alec to feel guilty and then ease him into a friendship with clary because this is no way to handle this type of story there is no way. and it is not like they say oh well, here's the end of this. because they include shots of alec pinching his hands at that hospital scene. what was the reason? has alec not had enough on his plate already? friendly reminder, iris's spell at that party caused people to project their insecurities and everyone was fighting each other. and who does alec blame? who does he fight? who he thinks is worthless of living and no one will miss? himself. do they drop this storyline faster than clace romance? yes!

ah, instant love that makes no sense because we are supposed to believe it is the way it is. the writers keep telling us there is nothing compared to their love but doesn't show us SHIT when it comes to that. don't believe me? oh, okay, the number of dates that they have before crusty lord of the lifetime valentine morgenshit breaks the fake sibling news is that time when jace stands and watches clary get encanto and tough inappropriately by a vampire and their rendezvous with fake dad. then in S2A they mostly interact when clary is in trouble and needs jace help. clary dates the first person she knows already has feeling for her, jace goes around very around. they don't bond or try to talk or interact besides jace constantly looking sulkily at clary and simon. then 2x14 it all reveals she loves jace she desires jace no one for her but jace. and i totally forgot jace's confession via the soul sword about loving clary, not the way you would love a sister and all that. their first date as an again couple is 3x02…the love confession is ridiculous because he's saying all these things despite us literally never seeing that on screen. they bonk when clary still links with her psychopath brother, that whole scene alone should pay for my therapy. we kept being told they are in love, but we are never shown that. hey, maybe some advice. slapping romantic music over a scene will not make the scene romantic, you actually need to write it too. this relationship goes nowhere because itself and the two characters inside it doesn't change. it's always clary wants something so jace push everyone and everything under the solar system out of the way to give it to her. this wouldn't be a problem if, yk, it is only in the first season and they have character development. but let me remind you S3B they summon lilith back to earth despite magnus losing his magic to help defeat her (didn't make it to this list but a very strong honorary mention) with the worst possible plan. relying on a guy simon knew for less than the time clary and jace spent thinking through their plan. it like you are asking for him to betray you

one of the only major plotlines izzy has. and it's this. because of course this addict seeks a provider then both fall in love and the provider becomes addict again is super duper appropriate to happen to these two. two of the poc characters who are prominent in the show. one of the few female characters. of course very splendid decisions right there. and at the end of the series izzy gets together with someone who can make her relapse again. all because this storyline that could have been cut off and replaced with something more decent. but nope! sexily blood drinking time!

Hi, the plagiarism case anon here. A few things: There can be no case for the "imgonnagetyouback" song by TS made by Olivia's team. Having the same or similar name between songs is not illegal. The songs (after hearing them both back to back) do not sound alike. There is nothing here.

Josh Farro left Paramore in 2010, but he is a co-writer with Hayley on Misery Business so if he feels that someone ripped off his intellectual property, he has grounds to request credits. Worth noting, he is a piece of shit. Hayley (and the rest of the band) were unaware of this because she did not seek legal action, HE did. That's why she was shocked when she got the credits.

I'm not sure if you're an Olivia Rodrigo fan (because I'm not) but they're not profiting off her, it looks like Josh Farro made a stupid case and Olivia's team was even stupider for getting scared of it and gave away credits without doing their due diligence. That's why in 2022 Olivia got new management (Aleen Keshishan/Lighthouse Management), to protect her assets more.

The reason why Farro (I'm not sure why you included Swift - she can't drop anything she didn't start, even though I don't like Eco-terrorist Barbie here I don't think she "started" anything) is because he saw he could get away with it. Swift, Williams, Antonoff, and St. Vincent probably just woke up and saw that their names were added underneath "Good 4 u" and "Deja vu" and I'm sure the money started to roll in shortly after. I believe Olivia still works with St. Vincent {she was credited in guts) which I find very interesting.

Olivia also tried to sue Korean singer Choi Yena and take her song down. I mean, the name of the song was bad ("Hate Rodrigo"), but the whole entire song was essentially praising her. She also has a lot of compelling plagiarism accusations from her dance routines to her merch designs. And Olivia's fans still send death threats to those two kids and she has said that she doesn't care (like actually, in an interview about the hate other people receive from her songs is "none of her concern" [Source: Interview on YouTube: IHeartRadioCA] so idk. I can tell she used to idolize TS. The apple doesn't fall far from the tree or whatever.

Honestly, I think payola is happening for JK because it’s nearly impossible to make it onto Hot100 “organically” now. But the plagiarism comes in when they've copied your fic but changed the words? Like I was reading the screenshots and when I got to the tiptoe part that def surprised me how surprisingly similar they are

Taking inspiration from a fic you absolutely loved is so okay but when it comes to almost the exact same outline (streamer miles streaming, you come in and surprise, chat gasps at revelation) and with the lines almost being identical your def crossing the plagiarism lines

Shutting the door as quietly as possible, you tiptoe out of Penelope's room. After lots of coaxing, she and Jasper finally went down for their nap.

For God's sake. Of course, why would he start mowing the lawn at any other time!

You just roll your eyes and pray it doesn't wake them. Plopping on the cushy couch, you turn on Gilmore Girls, still shaking your head.

"It's time for lunch Penelope," you say as she clings to you. Babysitting really isn't that bad, you've always found it odd how many people hate kids.

You walk out of Penelope's room and wake Jasper. He quickly scurries to the dining room. Jasper and Penelope's parents are full on kook. Their house really makes yours look like a crack shack.

You get them set up with their finger sandwiches when you notice the lawnmower boy sprawled on the ground. "Oh my god-" you say, hand going to your mouth. "Penelope and Jasper put down your food we've gotta go."

"But-" Jasper starts.

"Come with me." Forcing your tone to be even, you grab their hands and run out the door to his side.

Shit, what's this kid's name. Fuck. Fuck. Fuck. What is it? JJ.

"JJ," you say, kneeling in the grass to shake him lightly. He stirs a little. You keep your voice calm so the kids stay calm, taking them out with you wasn't the best option but leaving the three and five-year-old to eat unsupervised wasn't either. "Wake up, hon," you say and his eyes crack open slightly. 

"Is he okay?" Penelope asks, you turn to see her picking at her lips anxiously.

"He's alright Penny, just tired," you reassure her.

"Are you okay?". He looks like he hasn’t slept for days, and lord knows the last time he’s drunk any water. All in all, not a good mix with the Carolina sun.

You almost miss the dark bruises on his arms. Almost.

His eyes open fully and he props himself up on his elbows. "Yeah...just dozing off," he says lazily.

"Here, go get JJ a bottle of water please." you look to Jasper, the oldest of the two, and he scurries off. Your first aid training comes in handy right about now.

"What day is it?" you ask peering down at him.

"Friday?" he replies

"Where do you live?"

"Woah, at least take me out to dinner first," he says with a smirk, looking up at you with his sparking blue eyes.

"Definitely not concussed." You smile, his little comment makes you feel warm. Jasper comes back with the water and gives it to JJ. "What happened?" you ask.

"Eh, I was probably just dehydrated." he says.

"Yeah, you've gotta be careful. Once the clock hits twelve baby you won't know what hit ya." you reply. You know he's actually not that aggravating. Your smile grows, "Here, come sit in the shade with us for a little bit." You give him a hand in standing up. Taking it, he gives you a tight lipped smile. You lead him and the kids to the patio.

On your walk over, Jasper asks. "Did you fall on your head? Y/n always tells us to not fall on our head." Looking up to JJ with eyes bulging from curiosity.

"I don't think so." JJ says, taking a seat.

"Did you break anything?" He questioned, making you smile as you sat down across from JJ at the table.

"Not that I can tell,"

"Are you trying to steal my job, Jasper?" You kid, Jasper sitting next to you and Penny crawling on your lap.

"No," he replies, confused.

"Mkay, I'm watching you." You point two fingers to your eyes then turn them to him. He erupts in contagious giggles.

"Hey why don't you two go get your sandwiches you can eat out here today." You look between the two kids.

"Okay," Jasper says, springing up and scampering into the house. "Hey help your sister alright?" You yell after them. Throughout this encounter you had failed to notice JJ's content smile.

You snap your head to him making him register his smile and wipe it away quickly.

You caught a glance at his bruises again, trying to figure out the cause. "Hey are you sure you're alright?" Maybe that rumor you heard about his dad was true.

"Oh Y/n/n don't you worry about me." The nickname sent warmth through your chest. He swatted his hand in the air, brushing it off, but his sapphire eyes told a different story.

It's a small island after all, you knew just how often he faced trouble. Maybe he got in with some bad folks.

"I know I'm definitely not your first choice but always here if you want to talk and.. I'm cpr certified so if you're dying come tell me." You smile at the last part, raising your eyebrows.

He chuckles, "Well I'll definitely let you know if I'm dying. Thanks," He smiles lowering his head back down to look at his shoes.

"No problem," you turn your head at the sound of the door opening. Jasper watched Penelope intently. "You made it, good job." You say as the kids make their way to the table.

"JJ, can you still see?" Jasper questions.

"Jasper remember what we said about interrogating?" You say raising your eyebrows at him, a smile on your face.

"Oh yeah. Sorry." He apologizes to JJ.

On your way out from the Brown household, JJ jogged up next to you.

"Hey," He now stood next to you.

"Oh, hey. You feelin' better?" You sent him a small smile, turning to him.

"Feeling great, had the best nurse." He gave you that JJ Maybank smile.

"Aw, you're sweet." Your cheeks burned red, your embarrassment at it made them all the more rosy.

You must have made up the blood that rushed to his own, "Listen, I have an offer for you."

"Okay," you smile, curious.

"You should come by the boneyard tonight. We're throwing a kegger."

"What kind of offer is that." Your voice laced with sarcasm.

"One you can't refuse." You chuckle to this.

Smiling you say, "No an offer is supposed to be something special. I know for a fact you guys throw a kegger almost every week."

"Well, we don't usually personally invite people." He raised his brows, that damn smile.

"Yeah, sure." You smirk, turning to your car.

"That's not a no." He smiles down to you.

"I'll be there." You give, climbing into your car.

"Can't wait. You won't be disappointed, princess."

"I better not be." You smile.

"See ya then,"

"See ya," With that he closes your car door and you smile like an idiot. As you pull out of the driveway JJ waved to you before skipping back to his work, that he was most certainly not behind on.

(Okay the first aid questions are definitely not what you do when you think someone has a concussion but we gotta sacrifice realism for the plot yk)

“Hey, this is Scotty, mind picking up Daniel? He’s had a little too much to drink. Thanks a lot mate.”

“Yeah sure, no problem. Be there in 10 alright?” You said, sighing. This wasn’t the first time you had to pick him up after he’s gotten too much to drink after one of those girlfriends of his breaks up with him. It always end like this, you thought. It hurt you to see him like this, but you could only do so much, to him you were probably at most a best friend.

Getting into your corvette, you turned on the radio and mindlessly drove till' you reached the bar.

"Where could he possibly be-" you mumbled to yourself, eyes scanning the bar before your eyes landed on a very drunk Daniel and a semi-sober Scotty who was probably going to be drunk before you knew it too.

Walking over and trying your best not to get trampled over alive was definitely tough but you made it, not even noticing that you were holding your breath until you made it to the dance floor, finally taking. a breath of the air in the bar - which quite literally smelt like alcohol and sweat. Cringing at the thought, you were snapped out of your headspace when you heard Daniel slurring something from the other side of the dance floor.

Once you came over to him you could heard him mumbling almost incoherent words to you "you’re so pretty tonight, you know i have a best friend that looks like you, i love her a lot-" placing a finger on his mouth, you shushed him, knowing that he was most probably still too drunk to understand what he was saying, or maybe he meant it as a friend you thought.

Slinging an arm over his shoulder - you somehow managed to drag him back to your car where you buckled your seatbelt before you buckled his. Surprisingly, he could still have the energy to be dancing to the radio in the car which played a variety of modern and vintage tracks.

Reaching your apartment, you had to drag him out of the car before locking it with a press of a button on the car keys which you then slipped back into your pocket.

Tapping your keycard on the lock, you giggled slightly at how he was fidgeting with the Disney keychains that he got you when you travelled with him to japan for his grand-prix. During all these moments of having to pick him up, you've also seemed to noticed that he was clingy when he was drunk, constantly hugging or holding onto you like a baby koala - which you found cute but it kind of hurt at the same time since you knew it was not really sincere as he was just drunk and it was probably all in your mind.

Stepping into your apartment, you took off your coat before changing into a sweater which happened to be gifted by him as you wanted to promote his merchandise - and a pair of silk pyjama shorts, before stepping out of the bathroom so he could change into the spare clothes you had for him in your closet as you assumed that he had sobered up a bit during the ride.

"Hey, theres only one bed. I'll sleep on the couch if you’re not comfortable," you said "Or if you’re alright with it we can share the bed, i'll put a pillow between us."

"We can share, I'm sure you can control yourself right?" he said words still slurring before laughing, face still slightly red from the booze. Feeling your face heat up from the joke, you shook it off and laid in the bed facing the opposite side - where he then joined you shortly after.

"Goodnight sweets, love you." he said. "Goodnight Daniel." you replied, not think much of it, you shouldn’t say things you don’t mean anyways, you thought.

(next morning)

You had woken up early to find that the pillow that had been separating the both of you had been thrown onto the wooden flooring through the night, and with that, you found yourself in the arms of someone you wished belonged to you. Gosh. - you thought to yourself, he's like a human heater. Nice and toasty. Before you were once again snapped out of your train of thoughts by the soft sounds of your stomach rumbling.

Quietly getting out of bed, you replaced what was once your body, into the pillow that had been thrown onto the floor - being careful to not wake him up. You then made your way to the kitchen where you then took out some eggs and toast, trying your best to stay as quiet as possible - eating your breakfast quietly while you placed his on the counter in order for it to cool down.

Washing the dishes, you didn’t even notice his presence until he laid his head on your shoulder, despite it being common for him to do this when he stayed over at your apartment - you couldn’t help but get flustered at his actions. Cheesy it may sound- but there was not a single lie in what you thought.

“Good morning, sweets.” Voice still raw and rough, just how you liked it. (Might be pun- intended) not to mention the nickname, it was what he always called you since high school due to your sweet tooth.

“Morning, Danny. Breakfast is on the counter, enjoy it while it’s still warm - Advil is placed with your glass of water near the orange juice if you need it.” You said while using a towel to dry the dishes while he took the Advil and his breakfast.

After breakfast, he sat at the couch where you joined him shortly after putting the dishes on the rack.

Arm slinked around your shoulder, the both of you watched the television till’ he popped up the question.

“You know I meant it when I loved you last night, right?” He said, eyes looking directly into yours almost as if it was desperate for something - which you desperately hoped that it was what you were what you were thinking of. The both of you. Us.

“Don’t say things you don’t mean Daniel, we both know you were as drunk as a bard.” You replied, shaking your head as you got up from the couch - breath hitching and tears threatening to spill.

“I really mean it, I’m sober now aren’t I? So why won’t you believe me?” He said, tone slightly rising out of frustration.

“Because I don’t want to end up like your other girlfriends! Either way even if it works out we’ll both leave each other, and I’ll get hurt, we’ll both get hurt- my heart can’t handle it, I love you too but I don’t think I can handle getting hurt from someone I love. And definitely not you.” Tears are running down your cheeks at this moment, all the built-up emotions are now crumbling down as you slowly fell onto your carpet.

“I won’t hurt you I promise. Please, just give me a chance. I’ll do anything. I’ve loved you since highschool but I’ve never done anything about it either, I was also scared. Scared of you liking someone else - I mean I’ve seen you with max and you guys are always laughing and having fun together. But I’ll give up everything for you. Please, one chance is all I’m asking for.” He said, holding your arms to prevent you from crashing onto the floor.

You’ve thought about it for a few minutes, sobbing in between. What if it doesn’t work out? What if you don’t even stay as friends if it doesn’t work out? The possibilities were endless, but a small part of you was yearning and willing to try. Just maybe the term ‘us’ could be a thing between the both of you.

Nodding slowly, you allowed yourself to be embraced by him, holding on tightly, feeling as if a ton of bricks had been removed off of your shoulders. Crying joyful tears, you looked up into his eyes where he wiped away your tears with his thumb and kissed your forehead before kissing your lips tenderly - but also with growing passion. Kissing back, wrapped your arms around his neck.

“I’ve never loved Max silly, I like him as a friend but it’ll never go further than that.” You said once both of you pulled away.

He nodded, pressing his forehead against yours. Then the both of you sat down back on the couch where you spent the rest of the morning cuddling and talking about date ideas. Maybe there was hope between the both of you after all.
