star trek update time. normally this is the section where i list what episodes we did on what day and it's actually been so long i almost couldn't remember. last tuesday we did voy's "nothing human" and "thirty days," thursday we did voy's "counterpoint" and ds9's "prodigal daughter," friday we did voy's "latent image" and "bridge of chaotica," sunday we did ds9's "the emperor's new cloak" and voy's "gravity," monday we did ds9's "field of fire" and voy's "bliss," and last night we did ds9's "chimera" and "badda-bing, badda-bang." whew! yes, it defeats the purpose if i do them after the fact. SORRRRRY i got out of the habit during the helene power outage. some of these, as a result, will be shorter than normal.

THIS ONE FUCKED. it was like getting to watch ds9 in my voyager

my main problem here was that if the episode is About the doctor, then why is janeway making the call on whether or not to use the cardassian guy for the operation? on the flipside, if the hard calls are left to janeway, why make the doctor choose whether to delete the hologram or not?either she's got to make both decisions or he does. it wasn't a great look for her

i wish also we'd had more time to spend on b'elanna's anger at janeway...it seemed almost like an afterthought to have it be a single scene, and it also makes janeway look like an even bigger asshole to have her go "too bad don't care" rather than like. talk about how much she fought with herself over it and how much they all need b'elanna to get home

the moment where the cardassian was cutting into that holographic bug without caring if it felt pain...mwah. voyager could have said "not all cardassians" but yes, in fact, ALL cardassians.

like he was so nice at first he condemned the occupation but then when he said he had to experiment with what he had...you just Know. anyway, 10/10

thirty days (voy):

this one sucked. i get really annoyed with the prime directive in 90s trek because they only bring it up when it's convenient and sometimes they care a lot about sticking to it to the point where picard will watch an entire planet blow up and be like "thots and prayers :(" and sometimes they don't care at all like when picard saved wesley from getting executed by nudists bc if he didn't his gf would be mad. i'm using tng examples here because it would be DIFFERENT in voyager if janeway was lax on it all around given their circumstances but instead she locks tom in solitary for a really dumb reason even though solitary is cruel and unusual punishment even by today's standards AND she knows being in jail is like his trauma or whatever. dumb.

i don't even remember what else happened in this episode because i was too busy being mad about the idea of janeway actually imposing solitary on tom. i don't even care about tom i care that it makes her look like an asshole twice in a row. water planet was cool i guess

i think also it's such a kind touch to have the thing that gets the doctor out of his funk be janeway being under the weather. like, he's a healer. you know?

i was afraid for my life when this episode started but it was actually fine. not my favorite, because the 1930s superhero setting means nothing to me, but i like how everyone kind of m,ade fun of the setting and then lovingly bullied janeway into playing the bride. like, that wasn't nothing

like, tuvok's EXTREMELY wry and bitchy jokes at tom paris's expense for example. seven being judgy at harry. that sort of thing.

this ep more than any other highlights how different tuvok and spock are...like obviously tim ross is copying leonard nimoy's homework re: The Eyebrow and other mannerisms because every vulcan on star trek does that, but tuvok is very at peace with the way he experiences love and what his relationship with his wife means to him, in a way that is very different from how spock finds peace living WITH his emotions in the tos films. like yeah i can see now why spock had trouble on vulcan and was noticeably different than everyone else. you know?

and while spock found it impossible to be exactly the same as the vulcans around him, and while his inability to do that hurt him greatly, you can see too that it isn't necessarily a BAD way to live or a harmful culture in and of itself. and it's nice to see that side of it! it's just sad that spock could never see that side of it.

this one sucked again. lotta duds in ds9 lately. wild

firstly, there is no reason ezri should be able to deduce the guy is the killer just from standing next to him in the elevator for 5 seconds, joran or not. secondly, the vulcan's motive makes no goddamn sense. he's a VULCAN.

the one part of this episode i did really enjoy was ezri's very quiet conversation with worf. he's usually so uncertain about how to interact with her, his simple "you are dax" hit really hard. i wish it had been in a better episode, because while i'm still lukewarm on ezri, her greatest potential is as this shade of jadzia. it's a really interesting dynamic and they nailed the atmosphere in that scene

that said, what he did was essentially accidentally talk her into letting a psycho loose in her head, so like...pretty invalidating. and overall the episode sucked bad. but still!

fun to have odo meet another changeling. fun to have this guy be martok, also. i caught that shit. my ear never fails me. fun to have odo trying to balance his changeling life and human life

less fun when they did the shady melding. kira has every right to feel bad about this bc the last time he was doing it was with his mommy shifter who almost got him on her side

apparently this episode was meant to show us odo still struggles with his being a changeling and wanting to be with people, and it's too easy of a choice if all his people are evil. the problem with this is that this guy is also an asshole. evil, no, but he has the same superiority complex that the other changelings do. if they had made him like, "yeah humanoids are fine but we gotta find the rest of the hundred!" i would have been way more invested in odo being torn. they never really SHOW us odo wants to go back anyway, they TELL us. thats all this was. odo like wah i want to go to the link :( and it's that conflict which initially made him so interesting to me, too, and him choosing kira over his own people is a lot of what draws me to that ship. so it's a shame that the excution fell so flat in some places

Din Djarin; For Din I have two headcanons—first one is Demon!Din, the lovable, sexy one that eats pussy like a champ and is a feminist lol. In the second one I don't think he'd be a monster per say, I think he'd be a droid, or some really advanced AI. He'd be intelligent, but surprisingly human underneath all that beskar.

Marcus Moreno; Homeboy is already super, so it makes sense to me that he'd be like a Magneto / Professor X hybrid. Intuitive, crazy smart, and very handy to have around.

Pero Tovar; I don't actually think he'd be a monster either, more like a time traveler who is perpetually lost. Never in his own time, never knows what's going on but point him towards somewhere he can have a stiff drink, a fight, and a woman or five and he's right at home.

Javier Pena; Javi would be a Nahual, the Mesoamerican version of a shapeshifter, also known as an animal protector and guardian spirit. I'm not sure which animal he'd change into-I'll leave it open to interpretation.

Francisco Morales; Werewolf. Hands down. Literally nothing else to add to this-he'd be normal and cool most of the time, and then disappear for the three days of the full moon.

Max Phillips; This one's a given, he's a vampire and it makes sense for him. No notes- they got it in one.

Marcus Pike; This is where we get a bit sad, I think Marcus would be a ghost. A lonely spirit, wandering the earth in search of a true love.

Ezra; He's a little different, he gives me 'Old God' vibes. A pagan harvest God or deity, someone you leave offerings to in order to have a bountiful harvest, or good health, fertility.

Dave York; This man is a crossroads Demon. He's cold, and distant, and is always ready to offer you a deal you can't possibly afford.

Oberyn Martell; This is obvious to me too, Oberyn is an Incubus. The breeding kink is so strong it's basically his personality. He's only here to have a good time, and fuck his way through humanity (consensually, of course), leaving as many babies as he can in his wake.

Max lord; Another obvious one for me, he's a genie. Make your wishes, and he'll grant them, so long as there's something in it for him at the end of the day.

okay huge spoilers for both this show and bravern below. BUT. so like i said before i’d actually already seen gravion a while ago and decided to revisit for zwei since the possibility of bravern getting a s2 is. not unlikely probably? seems like it prints money in japan so who is to say LMAO. and tbqh i don’t think there are like. very many similarities? or very much to glean abt potential bravern s2 from zwei? like i’d say on some level that bravern itself feels more like zwei due to bravern feeling like a complete story meanwhile the first season of gravion really doesn’t. LMAO. HOWEVER, i could def see s2’s plot being abt finding out Where the deathdrives come from and Why, kinda like the sandman-hugi-lambias plotline in zwei

honestly at first i thought that gravion and zwei must’ve been greenlit at the same time and just paced in a baffling manner cause why else would the actual plot only start like halfway into zwei? but apparently zwei was actually greenlit after gravion was done so idk why all of the Lore Ideas were saved like that LMAO. honestly it’s mostly just interesting perspective to look back at bravern on at it exists without a s2 - i get the feeling that obari wanted to make sure that none of his ideas stayed on the table, in case he didn’t get to make more, hence why it is so fast-paced and there is so MUCH in there. and i ALSO get the feeling that koyanagi did even more of the work to pull a coherent, consistent, evenly-paced plot out of all of obari’s ideas than i had previously thought and everyone owes him a BIG thanks for making sure that bravern is actually a good show. LMFAO. anyways i said it before and i’ll say it again but koyanagi based as fuck!!!!!!!

i think if i am being honest with myself that gravion is probably a 6/10 and zwei is an 8/10 HOWEVER. zwei REALLY comes together quite beautifully in its back half which leaves the whole affair with a very good aftertaste so to speak AND. i know i joke about “2000s digipaint ecchi mecha show” but there is truthfully something so full of heart to me when it comes to shows that fit that description lmao. ttgl and diebuster are very much the pinnacle of that and while i think they are better shows than gravion, and have more to say, gravion has that same soul to it? like there is such a deep-seated love for every single person, and an unwavering belief that in spite of (and sometimes because of) their flaws, they are capable of anything when they work together!!!! and that fucking GETS me about the super robot genre, just that optimism born of refusal to take the world as it is and to forcibly make it better with all of the people around you!!! if we kick and scream and fight like hell, we’ll move forward a little bit!! surprising absolutely no one who knows i am a rossiu enjoyer, the scene where sandman is convinced he needs to die and then all the people who he has genuinely wronged talk him out of it had me ugly sobbing lmao. super robot anime are beautiful!!!!!!

however now for the things that bug me about gravion cause the number is. not insignificant 😭 i feel like there is a truly excellent show buried in here somewhere but it got kinda mangled along the way and not all of it was able to shine and that makes me sad!!! cause tbh a lot of parts DID make it through intact and they deserve to be loved!!!! i will certainly love them with my whole heart forever despite being 20 years late to the party LMAO.

okay so first things first. WHY IS EVERYONE SO SECRETIVE FOR NO REASON 😭 like starting off with ayaka, i get why she didn’t come out to eiji right away due to his whole reasoning for piloting at first being that he is doing so in order to find her. okay cool! but by the end of regular gravion, eiji’s motivation has evolved? he’s finally accepted the need to Do Something about the zeravire due to the way the attack and his hesitancy impacted yumi…………he’s clearly attached enough to touga that touga nearly killing him caused him to angst for a few days…………so why can’t ayaka just tell him now? yeah it’s fun to play with her secret identity some but i think it’d still be fun if eiji got the chance to fully Know that when raven yells at him it’s really his sister and they get to banter back and forth with the Raven of it all LMAO. hell maybe she could’ve ACTUALLY piloted gravion in its other leg after mizuki left, i would’ve gone bonkers if they got to pilot together!! his quick forgiveness of her not telling him is in character for him but it’s a little anticlimactic that he’s all confused once she revealed herself cause she had no reason to keep it secret for so long 😭 especially since i’m pretty sure mizuki knew too after she and eiji had their adventure!!! mizuki coulda told him at some point instead!!! hell ep13 already feels tacked on since the ongoing plotline abt eiji running away due to touga was resolved in ep12 (i guess????? tbh they don’t really talk abt it touga just says “welcome home eiji 🥺” and then they are inseparable besties in the first half of zwei so i assume they worked it out LMAO) so why not work the Ayaka Reveal into that ep too? maybe it’s an artefact of zwei being greenlit by that point and them wanting to sit on it for a while longer, idk.

actually i say that somewhat dismissively but in the entire first half of zwei they take every instance to show that when given the opportunity eiji and touga choose to hang out together and it’s so 🥺 as long as you ignore that one where eiji is dressed as fucking pickle rick lmao. like a strong aspect of eiji as a character imo is that even though he is initially abrasive towards everyone, after he warms up and they grow closer it really does feel like he actually likes these people!!! and he cares for them!!! and he especially likes hanging out with touga which is so 🥺

anyways i think that the show could’ve really benefited from a flashback to luna’s dad’s death, and the passing of the Raven Mask onto ayaka, thus removing her from the Gravion Pilot Equation. and also that perhaps coinciding with sandman’s realization that touga’s a little freak and needs friends, so ayaka suggests eiji in her place since she knows he’ll be able to get through to touga and also likely has the gravity enzyme since she does. i think this would’ve cleared up the motivations of her AND sandman a lot AND given a much stronger foundation to what’s going on with touga…………

this also leads into my second big issue with the secret-keeping which is that. eina’s character gets completely mangled due to her proto-grand-diva nature being a surprise and it hurts the rest of the show too 😭 like why AREN’T we allowed to know that she is a clone(?) of her original self? why was she created? was it specifically to take care of touga? cause it’s also hard to believe that eina and touga are truly That close when touga’s only friend up to that point has been said to be the grand kaiser!!! like i think the grand kaiser betraying him was honestly more impactful than eina’s DEATH due to not knowing either her as a person or her relationship to touga all that well 😭😭 she has the least developed relationship with eiji too imo, which is a shame cause his relations are the strongest………though i WILL say it’s fucking hilarious to me that she represents the maids on gravion 😭 maid representation matters!!! i just wish that she had a plot or a better defined/explained backstory to connect to!!!

secret number 3: sandman. him keeping secrets about his past due to his guilt makes sense and the reveal is well-timed however that reveal is explained so confusingly and also the weird incest thing going on with him and hugi and lufira legitimately confused me as to what tf actually happened LMAO. like are any of these people actually related???? are they all related???? i have no clue 😭 also i said this before but that unnamed couple who died on lambias looking SUSPICIOUSLY like eiji and touga is fucking suspicious as hell LMAO. is sandman’s grief for them specifically what drove him to choose touga over faye from the orphanage and to seek out ayaka then pivot to eiji???? cause they look like eiji and touga if you aged them up and also if eiji was crossdressing WHICH IS NOT UNHEARD OF.

ALSO speaking of touga nearly killing eiji and also eina’s unclear role in touga’s life. i think this show tries to have its cake and eat it too with the “touga is HEARTLESS” thing 😭 which is sad cause i love his character archetype and there’s already a lot of good stuff there and i just!!!! wish it was done better!!!!!! like the scene where touga nearly kills eiji and cecile is so fucking whack cause 1) we have not yet really seen any indication that touga is Like This? no lack of care for nearby civilians that his teammates challenge, no concern for his fellow pilots throwing themselves into danger (sometimes literally with luna and leele and EINA(!!!) and the way their special attacks sometimes launch them solo at the enemy………… and 2) eiji is taking his sweet fucking time saving cecile 😩 like he gets to her and then sits there for a whole ass minute when he coulda been actually getting outta the way and letting touga do his job!!! he has ample time to escape!!!! it really kills the dramatic tension there and the whole episode comes off so weirdly when it���s supposed to be like. the emotional focal point of the season 😭😭😭 ironically it seems like from what i have seen of SRW Z so far that they’re actually trying to remedy this a bit? like eiji has called out touga TWICE already in their very first battle for his personality change. smth smth that one tweet that’s like “they experience the exact same plots as their shows but boss from mazinger z is there” LMAO

also unrelated but that ep also has the scene where eiji’s like “hey eina doesn’t it bother you that luna and touga are so close 🤨” and i’ve been thinking abt it since watching this time around trying to figure out what it is supposed to be saying? and what prompted eiji to ask that? like luna isn’t into touga yet cause that happens while eiji is away. touga sees everyone platonically except eiji. eiji sees everyone platonically except touga and also leele for five seconds (and he thinks “she’d be cute if she smiled” as if touga doesn’t look like a smiley leele 🤨🌈⁉️). eiji and luna are kept pretty strictly platonic and i fucking love them for it. so like. it COULD be eiji’s interest in touga prompting him to ask that but i honestly doubt it? like they had their ep6 date but i genuinely don’t think he realizes how much he cares for touga until touga tries to kill him and hurts him on that personal level LMAO. so it would be weird to have eiji consciously foreshadow/lampshade that here. which just leads me to believe that it’s supposed to be implying that EINA is into touga???? since there was also an earlier scene with her and the other maids where they asked if she liked touga and she got flustered? but like then in zwei she is pretty strictly assigned to being his one and only friend-mom-caretaker who he cares about so much even though he is heartless. IDK 😭😭 this scene just confuses me more the more i think abt it i think. weird ass episode!!!!!!

i think the main thing for me that really holds it back is the just. total lack of desire to do anything interesting with the theme of gravity 😩😭😭 like i guess you could SOMEWHAT say that it exists on an interpersonal level on the protagonists’ side mainly cause eiji manages to stick with the ppl he cares about HOWEVER it has absolutely nothing to do with the zeravire. or hugi. or lambias. or the genocidron. and even the bit about gravion breaking apart when it’s taken too many hits could’ve been explored a lot more imo!!! gravity as a scientific theory has SO much storytelling potential and it’s genuinely disheartening that none of it was used 😭 we never even really see the extent of sol gravion’s power either!!!! which kinda undermines eiji being put there cause he’s Earned It and just kinda makes it seem like the switch is 100% cause touga experienced zwei ep4 and was like “actually i think the only other person who i want to have access to the grand kaiser during battle who could potentially wrap their arms around me from behind is eiji. this is the perfect idea since i think he’s a little too far away from me in the right leg and it freaks me out when we’re in battle and i’m not physically close enough to protect him. i need to tell sandman about this Now” which is cool cause i love them but i would’ve ALSO loved to see a moment where eiji is either tested as the person to pilot the Willpower To Power mecha OR where he is able to use that power in a moment where there is no other solution for them. eiji just got a cool promotion, let’s let him use it!!!!!

anyways the good stuff now!!!! i feel like this section might be shorter but there IS actually more stuff i like in this show than dislike however i just have more notes abt the things that could be improved LMAO. okay so first off i fucking LOVE eiji he is an EXTREMELY good “heart of the team” character. imo. he’s literally the opposite of a deadbeat dad cause he went out one day to go look for touga in the bigass city and came back with mizuki and luna too 😩 best fucking boy!!!!!!!! i love that he’s not naive either, like tbh a character trope that grinds my gears is “too good for this world too pure never has conflict ever” and while that’s usually associated with having a big heart i LOVEEEEEEEEE that eiji gets to be all heart AND be abrasive and angry and fuck up!!!! he’s seen some shitty things about the world and yet is so quick to forgive and love and care!!!! i love his friendship with leele where he’s like a bit of an older brother to her and yet when he runs away SHE’S the one to come call him out on his shit (mirroring his own ethos) and he listens to her!!!! i love his friendship with mizuki where they get to connect over knowing ayaka and even though mizuki doesn’t tell him everything, it feels like they hold high respect for each other through ayaka!!!! i love that when mizuki leaves the EFA that EIJI is her first call cause she knows that even if everyone else has fallen apart that he’ll still be there to scrape the pieces back together, and i love that even though she’s just betrayed them eiji forgives her and trusts what she has to say about where touga is and where they should meet her!!!! i LOVEEEEE his friendship with luna, in that they grind each other’s gears cause they are so similar but grow to really respect each other and in zwei have some of the most genuine and honest conversations together because they trust each other so much!!! like they CAN confide in each other (mostly about touga lmfao) without yelling cause they respect each other, but also their edges don’t get smoothed over and they both still get to be annoyances towards each other too!!! honestly i fucking love luna too, like she and leele kinda got the shaft in s2 for Touga Love Triangle (lmfao) but genuinely when girls are like. THEY think they're the Responsible Mature ones and they are 100% capable and determined meanwhile they have moments where they can be just as childish and abrasive and immature as the guys around them is one of my favorite types of Anime Girl tbh. yoko-core rain-core yknow!!! anyways back to eiji he and SANDMAN have such a good relation too, like i love how eiji at first refuses his responsibility but once he accepts it he becomes someone sandman truly trusts and relies on!!!! eiji’s literally not sandman’s brother-in-law, he’s the brother who stepped up (MORE ON THIS LATER)!!!!!

WOW. i loved this part so so so much. let's start with the combat because i enjoyed it SO MUCH. the set-up of the fight was very well done imo, it's hard but in a very satisfying way instead of frustrating. i really felt relieved after astarion was free again, both in emotional ways and in "WHITE BOY SAVE ME" kinda way 💀 because this man broke free from his mental chains, and carried the ending of the combat like it is just another day lmfao. opened my eyes once again about just how much i rely on astarion's massive crit damage built in every combat 💀 ANYWAY. it was soooo fun to strategize for this fight, i ended up getting a lot of summons for the ritual rune thingys lol and WYLL. MY DUDE WYLL... he was also great this fight he sunbeamed the fuck out of cazador + with his blood of lathander like ❤ karlach was great for beating the shit out of cazador after wyll got him sunbeamed repeatedly lmao AND i dont remember which item/feat it is exactly but she gives damage to everyone around her when she takes damage so lol. it's really incredible for the small annoying enemies

OKAY i gotta also talk about the scenes before combat too....... alright so first of all i LOVED trying different lines in my various attempts lmao. normally this is not what i would choose, but seeing his reaction to the "you owe it to them" line was.......... another one that i normally wouldnt choose was shaming him for catching children for cazador, which was also interesting to see. i dont remember if it was that line gets this result, but i loved how he goes "i didn't have a choice then... but i do now" YES BABY ❤

and the cazador cutscene before the combat..... seriously fuck this guy fuckkkkkkk him. how he doesnt even Think for one second that astarion can be stronger than him. how he doesnt even address you when you talk ("it's between me and the boy"). i tried a few options/combinations in my various attempts, but i never tried the "you were scared of this guy astarion??" one 💀 honestly i was curious where that would lead, but what a thing to say... the same with "don't lose your head" or something like that like. excuse you, this is the perfect occasion for him to lose his cool like. where else if not here. so yeah FUCK you and FUCK everything you've ever done to me!!!!! ALSO!! i gotta say i feel like they nailed cazador's smile. that shit was CREEPY. that cutscene was very well done imo, great buildup for a great combat.

this is so messy but let's jump to the end of combat here snsnndndjdjf anyway that cutscene was WOWWWW i enjoyed it so much. as i said, in my first attempt i fucked it up 💀 astarion left!!!!! but it was a fun alternative to see (fun as in sad). how defeated he sounded at the end, the difference in his conversation with his siblings... and how angry and selfish he can be after you refuse to help him!! if he doesnt get a chance no one else can!! but OBVIOUSLY that's not the ending i went with lmaoooo

I’ve thought about this kinda AU with Steve and Bucky so much. Like…so much and in all kinds of ways. It more than tickles my fancy, pumpkin. I’ve thought all about a City Boy Bucky rolling through a townsy bar on a Friday night and finding him a big ‘ol Farm Boy Steve and the two of them just falling head over ass for each other. Steve’s never seen anyone that resembles an angel on Earth until he sees those eyes and those lips upturned towards him. And Steve is everything Bucky never knew he could like, beard thick but not as thicc as those thighs and that ass, not donned in tailored suit pants, laugh boisterous, personality taking up as much space as his body does.

I’ve thought about Steve taking Bucky down by the river, teaching him how to catch a catfish with his bare hands, how to bait a hook, how to jump from the rope swing perfectly. I’ve thought about Steve teaching him how to shotgun a beer, how sweet his mama would be on Bucky and her teaching him how to make the perfect peach cobbler from scratch. I squeal inside when I think about Steve sitting there at the kitchen table watching his mama and the boy he’s sure he’s fallen in love with work together beautifully, the dopey look on his face when he takes a bite of Bucky’s warm cobbler and makes a surely inappropriate noise.

I’ve imagined the way they’d dance at the bar to Just Got Started Lovin’ On You, how close they’d be, all lined up together and Bucky moving so gorgeously and easily with Steve’s lead, the two of them looking so disgustingly in love. I’ve thought about the look of pride on Steve’s face when Bucky drinks a heckler right under the table, tequila simultaneously the best and worst thing to ever run through Bucky’s veins. Steve would stop Bucky from getting into a fight not shortly after his competitor concedes, wrapping Bucky up in two strong arms, mouth at his ear, eyes ablaze and wordlessly telling the other man to fuck right off or he’ll let this kitten go.

I’ve thought all about Bucky pushing at Steve, shouting about how he can walk to the truck, and then how he’d damn near topple over on his baby deer legs.

I’ve pictured Bucky reading to Steve out loud as they lay under a tree, sun high in the sky, hand knocking Steve’s hat off his head and playing with his hair as his head rests in Bucky’s lap. I’ve thought about Bucky explaining city life to Steve, the hustle and bustle of the Big Apple and how tall the buildings are and the job Bucky left behind. I’ve thought about the first time they fight, Steve getting up in his feels about how perfect and smart Bucky is and how he doesn’t deserve to be here with some country bumkin like him.

I’ve imagined how much it tears Steve up, seeing his sassy Buckaroo spittin’ and cryin’ because of him, how he’d let Bucky get in his face with a pointed finger and tell Steve that he better take his words back or else. He’d grab for and hold onto Bucky as he tries to run out of the kitchen and into the yard after Steve says he can’t take them back though, unable to watch Bucky leave.

“I hate to break it to you but for the first time in 16 years I think JJ might be cooked.” Pope mentioned, putting a hand on your shoulder as he came up behind you. Up ahead was JJ, calling all sorts of attention to himself as he tried to follow some group of touron girls doing a tik tok dance.

How it happened no one would ever know but you and JJ had wound up together. It wasn’t that you didn’t like parties it was just that you didn’t go nearly as hard as he did. You could nurse the same beer all night while JJ polished off a whole case. You’d heard the argument before, from JJ himself at parties, how in the world had he ended up with someone who didn’t like to go as hard as him at any given moment. Wouldn’t it make more sense for him to like someone who was a partier like him, a little bit of a wild child.  

“He pregamed before he got here.” You replied, “something about a fight he got in with Luke but he wouldn’t tell me.” You watched your boyfriend try to cross his feet and twist, instead losing his balance and falling onto the sand, beer spilling as he laid there on his back, laughing. “Guess it’s time to go.”

“You want help?” Pope asked.  

“Probably.”

JJ had only been drunk on a handful of occasions and none of them had been in public like this. You knew your boyfriend had a problem with alcohol but for the most part it was just fun to see him kick back and drink, he was funnier, louder, and more affectionate than usual when he was tipsy. It wasn’t anything to be concerned about. His drunk was the same but you knew he only drank this much when things were really bad at home.  

You walked over to the group that JJ had made himself a part of. One of the girls was crouched down beside him, asking if he was alright and trying to put her jacket beneath his head for a pillow. Pope tapped her on the arm as you knelt on JJ’s other side.

“We got this.” Pope promised, handing her jacket back.

“Are you sure?” She asked, casting a glance over to you.  

At the same moment JJ had rolled his head to the side and caught sight of you, reaching his arms up like he was a little kid, “girlfriend!”

“Hey babe, you ready to go home?”

“No, no, no. No. Where’s Pope?” He asked, arms still it the arm as he twisted his hands back and forth to look at his bracelets.  

“Next to you.” Pope said, grabbing JJ’s outstretched hands and tugging, encouraging him to stand up. As he did, you got up with him, grabbing his backpack and tossing it over your shoulder. Once on his feet JJ stumbled forward, wrapping his arms around his best friend.

“I missed you!” He exclaimed, “when did you get here?”

“I’ve been here the whole time.”  

“Hey, Jay, can we go?” You asked, laying a hand on his back and rubbing circles against his gray t-shirt. “You wanna go home?”

“No!” He pushed away from Pope, stumbling a little before managing to catch himself though he teetered as he stood in the sand. You swiped his flipflops from where he’d kicked them off to dance. “No! Go away!”

“JJ-”

“No!”  

“JJ,” you grabbed at his wrists when he tried to push you away, “hey, hey, my house. Do you wanna go home with me?” You asked.

Suddenly he stopped pushing, taking a step forward and collapsing into you the same way he had with Pope. You wrapped your arms around him, holding him against you and trying not to fall as he leaned his weight against yours. “Hi, girlfriend.”

“Hi babe, how’re ya doing?”

JJ hummed against your neck, “I’m so good, did you see me dancing?”

“Yeah, you were super awesome,” you replied, shifting him as Pope tried to help you hold JJ up. “Can Pope help you walk back to the car with me?”

“Pope! When did you get here?”

“Just now.” He replied, rolling his eyes as he held JJ under one arm and began to guide him away from the party with you.  

Once JJ was safely in the car, face pressed against the cool glass of the window and eyes closed, you started on the drive home. JJ had been to your house plenty of times before, both sober and drunk. The first time he had ever showed up to your house he had been drunk and near tears over his dad though he’d attempted to hide that glaring fact by insisting over and over that you should ‘party’. Your parents had let him stay on the couch and never mentioned the state he was in to you.

You drove home in silence, occasionally reaching over to brush his hair back or squeeze his hand. JJ kept asking if you were going to another party and you avoided answering him in case he misunderstood home as being his house again and tried to jump out of the car or something equally nuts that he was totally capable of doing in this mind state.  

Getting him from the car to the living room was a struggle you managed only by promising to make him a grilled cheese and give him one of your little brother’s capri sun’s. Once you did though he spread out against the couch, still covered in a sheet from when he’d woken up this morning.  

“I wanna...I want it cut in trianga...trianga...”

“Triangles?”  

“Yes!” JJ exclaimed. As soon as he did you covered his mouth with your hand, shushing him.  

“You have to be quiet if you want grilled cheese okay. You can’t wake anyone up.”  

He hummed, eyes wide as he stared at you in the dim light. You pulled your hand away slowly and when he didn’t say anything else you leaned over and gave him a kiss, scrunching your nose at the smell of cheap beer and weed mixed together.

I'm back from my mandatory two day socialization recovery period required for all socialization even if I enjoy it. It's time for some Mermaid!Din au thoughts (No thots unfortunately but we'll live)

First off I love the isolation that the reader faces because of the lighthouse they live in. And I love how the townspeople being nice to the reader help give them a reason to stick around when weird things start happening.

I love how it took months before anything strange starts happening, like were Din and Grogu just not around or were they observing the reader. Did Din ever try to stop Grogu from damaging the lighthouse or did he let the little rascal do as he pleased.

· And gosh I love the idea of reader dressing in old worn clothing, a knit sweater with fraying sleeves, sweat pants covered in paint from repairs, an old windbreaker to help keep the cold out. It makes me heart all warm and fuzzy.

Edna, who i've head cannoned as this series Miss Chatham (H2O: just add water charter) is honestly life goals. Like live near ocean - check(ish), have rare knowledge that can be used to help new person - check, being just slightly spooky -amazing. And is that a little matchmaker I see her playing? I love it.

Then Grogu being injured :( I bet that Din is absolutely being eaten alive by guilt even though we all know it’s not his fault and he does literally anything he can to keep Grogu safe and happy.

And In love how Din is venerable enough to ask for help, like he recognizes that this is something out of his area of expertise so he goes to the person he knows is “safe” to get help. He’s humble enough to admit that he needs help and is not capable of doing everything for Grogu. And being able to admit that is an important life skill that not enough people have.

· But even after he ask the reader for help he is still hesitant which shows that even though hes trusting reader he will still kick (is it still a kick if its with a tail) the readers ass if he hurts him.

“But you can help him” Oh my heart the trust in that sentence. Like Din just heard, “so yeah I can help your son but I have to take him somewhere it will be hard for you to follow. And he needs to stay there for at least a week, and even if you manage to come its going to be so far from your natural element.” But he was still on board with the plan. And then he goes to climb on the rock so he can drag himself all the way to the light house because he can’t let his little boy go alone even if it means hurting himself to do it.

Reader was smart af for doing the old blanket slipperaroo trick

Reader immediately knowing something was up when she walked into town is so realistic. She literally is hiding a massive secret at her lighthouse of course anyone would be on edge walking back into society. Especially a society that already knows a little something about the secret. But them to amplify it. Miss Chatham to the rescue. She knows that reader is up to something and she uses her powers as an old lady with lungs and karen potential to scare off the problem for a little bit. The reader just placed so much trust on Edna by straight up telling her that she's housing Din and Grogu.

· Also that fool browsing the menstrual hygiene rack, like dumbass. Is this your way of making him miss every shot? Because we know that storm troopers are well known for their ability to miss every shot so making him automatically turn to tampons? Genius

The "cyare" omg and then the reader warning Din about the cookies and him being so curious about them. The way Din is so perceptive of the readers mood that he is already able to tell that something is wrong. It was such a smart idea to have the reader lead with asking him to give her a small chance to calm down about what happened in the town.

Din and the reader low-key flirting and teasing each other at the end is so adorable. Grogu with the cookie absolutely melts my heart like of course that boy is hungry.

To reply to some things:

Honestly, I chose the isolation for two reasons, 1- it made sense, especially for how the plot is going to play out, privacy and isolation is needed, and 2- im introverted and I like being alone, so I just projected

The town's people are great! They are used to having lighthouse keepers just up and leave because of all the weird stuff, so the second that one sticks around they were all overjoyed, because like I said, a lot of the people work on boats fishing so the lighthouse is super important to them

Din did wait and observe the reader, wanting to know what to do when to attempt to scare them off. But also like no, he tried keeping Grogu away from the lighthouse as much as possible, not knowing what the reader might do to him, and just being a protective father, but we all know Grogu is a little shit and he snuck out before Din could stop him

Reader dresses in the COMFIEST clothes, and honestly, I am very much a sweater and comfy leggings kind of person, so again, something I am projecting

I love that you and everyone is loving Edna, she is definitely one of those cool old ladies that sneak you treats and shenanigans when no one is looking!

Also because idk if anyone has pointed it out.... in the last chapter I thought I was heavily hinting at it, but maybe it was more subtle than I thought, Edna and her MERMAID were alot more than friends *wink wink* she's gay as fuck and thats why she made the joke about not liking NUTS

Din loves Grogu, in and out of this AU, and it was 1000% not his fault that Grogu got hurt, in fact he was trying to protect him! Din definitely panicked and the first person that came to mind was the reader, and while he didn't know them, he knew for some reason they were safe to go to for help (as well as knowing the lighthouse would be a good place to hide while some things cooled down 👀), but Din will always be cautious because he is scared for his son

Din is just *chef's kiss* 👌, an amazing father who will do ANYTHING for his son, no matter what it takes

The whole blanket thing literally came from my childhood, thinking about how my sisters and I would drag eachother around on blankets, and I just thought it would be great for this scenario

Like the reader is gonna get real paranoid during this series, im not going to lie to you, things are gonna get rough, but Edna is the MVP she's one of those people that could pull your darkest secrets from you just by glancing at you, and the reader pretty much assumed she was safe to talk to after she had informed her about the food offerings

Ok ok, as for the dudes, I was too lazy to look up their names and stuff but they were these dudes from season 1 that gave Din Grogu's bounty: the first dude is the one 'hiding' in the women's hygiene section

Din is just obsessed for human food at this point, and he feels things for the reader even of he doesn't want to admit it quite yet

Din also may be oblivious as fuck, but he's also observant, hes a bounty hunter for fucks sake, he needs to be able to pick up on these things, so yes in my stories Din is really good at picking up on emotions, even if he doesn't fully know how to react to them

Im aiming for a slow burn foc, but to be honest with you all, chances are it is going to be a regularly paced romance, which for my writing is slow paced, so yeah the idiots are flirting and teasing eachother, but also like they will not be talking about or admitting feelings for at least a few more chapters

Grpgu deserves all the cookies!!! He's a growing tadpole, who has been magically healing himself while in a coma like state, so he hasnt eaten in days, and if he wanted he'd probably be able to devour 2x his body weight and then some, so a few cookies recieved in some kind of mysterious way are well achieved

TOP 5 FAVE W O M A N MOMENTS

I gotcha, anon. Sorry this is so late! I took forever trying to gather these panels and despite my efforts, they are mostly potato quality. Thanks for your ask, though! ❤️

In no particular order:

1. Fubuki putting the fear of God into Do-S

It’s not often we get to see Fubuki tear shit up, and I think this is the one of only few times we’ve seen her use her signature move in the manga (not counting that one omake where she fucks up all those little spiders). It was up until this point that I thought of her to be super... weak? Like, I thought this whole time she was just using her status as Tatsumaki’s little sister to wrangle up a bunch of hooligans as her underlings but I’ve found that to be a fat fucking lie. She’s super badass in her own right. She even resisted Do-S’ love magic whip thingy because her will is just that strong.

Fubuki doesn’t need to be Tatsumaki’s little sister to be feared, she just needs to be pissed off.

Personally, we don’t give Fubuki enough credit in terms of strength and raw “fuck ‘em up” power. I know she didn’t win this fight (technically), but Do-S is a demon threat monster and even some of the S-Class have a hard time with demon threats (cough cough, Zombieman and Pureblood). And, not to mention, Fubuki was also fending off her entire crew—who were taken under the influence of Do-S’ super BDSM love spell magic—this entire fight!

Darkness Blade was also involved somewhere but this ain’t about him. Moving on:

2: Do-S would’ve straight up merked Amai Mask’s crackheaded ass had he not been an actual freak of nature

(Sorry for the microwave quality pictures but we’ve all read the manga right? Just use your imagination.)

So, prior to Murata reworking the entire “Amai Mask commits homicide via his own damn hands” segment with Do-S, we had Do-S basically surrendering herself to Amai at the sight of him dicing up her love slaves at the speed of light (the merc squad). I did not like this AT ALL. I thought Do-S was a kickass character and for her to have this stupid death scene was really disappointing.

Thankfully, Murata thought the same thing. She still fucking died, of course, but she gets a little more... er, dignity? Idk, she’s just badass.

Amai Mask pretty much slams her skull into the wall, gives her like 13 concussions, and when he thinks he’s in the clear—BAM! Elastigirl powers, bitch! Do-S wraps herself around Amai and utilizes her freaky ass Alien-esque snake tongue to drill into his eyeball as her last stand before death. And this is why I think it’s valid that Fubuki had such a hard time dealing with her, because if it were any other S/A-Class hero (besides Zombieman, Superalloy, Genos... and maybe even Metal Bat) that got their brains drilled into via snake tongue, they would’ve died. If it were Child Emperor, Puri Puri, or even Atomic Samurai at the other end of her attack, they would’ve been FADED, man! It’s only because Amai has those bullshit monster invulnerability powers that he survived.

In conclusion: Do-S got done dirty the first time around, but Murata has since redeemed himself by giving her some wicked elastic powers and nearly dealing the final blow to Amai before dying. She’s also rlly sexy uwu

3. It is written somewhere in the Geneva Conventions that using Captain Mizuki’s thighs as a means of destruction is considered a war crime

First of all: holy fuck I’m horny.

Second of all: UUUH??????? This is 100% just Murata’s death by snu-snu fetish in action but I’m not complaining. Mizuki is super badass. I’m not a fan of this trope that women in male-dominated media have to give up their femininity in order to be taken seriously, so I was expecting at least one female character in OPM to be a mirror reflection of this shitty trend (judging by ONE’s track record of being allergic to women). However, OPM is all about taking tropes and putting them in a meat grinder. Mizuki is super feminine, bubbly, and positive! And that doesn’t make her any less of a fearsome opponent to these monsters, which is something I can really appreciate.

Overall, OPM has very few female characters (which is bad), but the treatment of the few we have is very good when compared to other media of the same medium. I’ve said before how I enjoy the fact that both sexes are treated as equal opportunity fanservicing, and I think it’s fitting to reverberate that here.

Mizuki is hot as hell, but she’s also strong, fun, and a ray of fucking sunshine. Her and Mumen would be great friends, now that I think of it!

4. Shadow Ring said SIKE

UNDERAPPRECIATED QUEEN RIGHT HERE ^^^^^^^

She’s so badass in the entirety of the surface strike sequence we get before the heroes enter the Monster Association base (take a shot every time I say badass. Try it, you’ll die).

I was super impressed by how strong she is?? And the whole time I’m reading this fight sequence I’m just like.... why aren’t we seeing more of her. She should have just as much screen time as Stinger! She was even noticed by Ninja Extraordinaire, Flash Flash; and she played a pretty big part in getting the S-Class to open their eyes to the combat prowess of the lower classes. If it weren’t for her, I fully believe the strike team would’ve had a much harder time penetrating the monsters’ defenses.

Also she’s cute as hell. All of the other female characters in OPM are over the top supermodel sexy (again, not complaining), so it’s refreshing to get someone that goes against the status quo (which as I’ve said before, OPM is kinda all about). Whenever we see her unmasked in those little volume extras Murata makes, I just want to squeeze her cheeks like an annoying aunt.

I forgot to mention this in the Mizuki section, but I think it also applies here: her teammates never point out the fact that she’s a woman. There’s no commentary on it, no snide “oh hurr hurr you’re a girl under the mask?” comments, just women kicking ass and male counterparts kicking ass alongside them, which is another thing I appreciate. It’s not often we get women in manga just.... existing. It seems there’s always gotta be a good reason for writers to insert female characters into their stories (WHY), but not here. Shadow Ring’s sole purpose in the story is to kill monsters and look cool while doing it. She gets the same treatment as all the other himbos around her.

I am completely aware that my say on the subject of gender equality in media could be completely invalid because I’m a cis dude but those are just my THOTS

honestly if your team includes cioccolata and secco would YOU introduce your lovely s/o to your team? i wouldnt either. secco is definitely taking advantage of their s/o’s lovely nature and their skills at baking cookies but at least it’s JUST secco and not cioccolata. YET.
