Random valorant agents headcanons bc I'm sleep deprived
(this means I didn't get my 12 hours of sleep today)
Brimstone
Hugest ally on the VP (which, lets be honest, doesn't mean much since they're all gay)
First person KJ came out to and he was so emotional about it
Constantly tries to get the agents to get closer or at least respect each other but after Cypher mentioned how him and Breach treat one another he gave up
Calls some agents (Viper, Sage and Killjoy) by their first names on the everyday and calls Sova, Chamber and Deadlock (the other ex militars) by their last names
I wanted to hc him an American football team but idk any💞💞💞
Viper
Brimstone and Vyse are the only ones to call her Sabine bc they know her since before the "incident"
KJ also used to call her Sabine before the VP but Viper was bitter abt agents calling her by her first name
Scared for her life of failing Reyna, not because she actually fears her, but because she actually cares about Lucia
Older sister who lost contact with her family
Aroace
Has a snake named Viper that is older than the protocol
Omen
Is annoyed by people mistaking knitting with crochet
Very kind to the younger agents
In his own way though
Killjoy
Has an older sister who doesn't talk to her since she was a teenager
HOW DOES ONE BECOME THE LEAD OF A WHOLE DIVISION ON SUCH A HUGE CORPORATION AT THE AGE OF 18???!$+2+_(not a hc, just a concern)
The fact her dad died before she was born probably has something to do with her closeness to Cypher and Brimstone
Rich af but rents an apartment with another girl and that place is absolutely precarious
Pays the rent monthly even if she doesn't spend a single night there
Has a huge lesbian flag on the living room and that has gotten her very straight roommate into delicate situations with her boyfriends
Her roommate is Brazilian from São Paulo bc I want her to
Very easily impressed by anything Raze does even if it's something she can do a thousand times better
I feel like she would main a duelist if she played val, probably Reyna or Raze
Cypher
Has a picture of his wife and kids on his bedside table
He keeps Nora's favorite clothing and his children's baby toys
Girl dad obv
Killjoy reminds him of his oldest daughter and sometimes he calls her his daughter's name
Hates kingdom but since he joined the protocol he learned how to convive with their workers, even if he doesn't like it most part of the time
Scares little kids on Roblox for fun
Wouldn't mind having a relationship with a man but after Nora he can't imagine himself in another relationship so he doesn't give it a try
(I love him and Nora😭)
Sova
Calls the other agents by their first names
Was friends with Sage since before the protocol
Recommend Sage to Brimstone
One of the only coworkers Viper enjoys the company of
Once he tried to speak Spanish to mess around with Reyna and Raze swore he was speaking Portuguese bc of the accent
Trans bc I want to project into my fav characters
Morning walks
Sage
Calls everyone by their first names
Has two younger siblings but she hasn't had notice of them since she started the monk training
Misses them
Met Skye when researching about her healing powers, Skye was doing the same
Born radiant
Great at cooking but Jett gaslit her into thinking it was bad as a joke and she still believes it
After Harbor joined the VP she got back into cooking
Lesbian bc I said so
Not much close to the other women in the protocol, only Skye, Jett, Neon and Reyna
Closer to the men on the VP (Sova, Brimstone, Cypher, Iso, Omen etc)
Doesn't have a clue of why Clove doesn't like her
Phoenix
Nerd
This man is a canon theater kid, he absolutely LOVES musicals, specially Hamilton and Jett and Raze tease him Abt being British and liking it
Bi
For some reason Jett gaslights him into thinking he's actually gay, obviously never worked
Him and Jett break up for the most ridiculous reasons, they've already broken up more times than one can count on fingers
Banned from every kitchen he steps on
Learned Korean só Jett would shut up about her being bilingual while he only spoke English
Once he let Astra undo his dreads to give him braids, it was the saddest day of his life
Raze bullies him for his style💔💔💔💞
Jett
Can cook five stars dinners but insists on eating leftovers she finds on the fridge and steals from the other agents
Doesn't dare touching Chamber's "monstrosities of dishes"
Makes people their favorite dinner and a special breakfast on their birthdays
Cooks for the whole protocol on weekends
Most my hc surround on the fact she's always eating something and was a chef😔
Gaslights everyone into believing the most random and/or stupid things and has actually convinced Gekko that dog is a common dish in east Asia
First thing she asks every east Asian she meets outside of east Asia is if they eat dog
Sage was mad at her for this
Also bi
Reyna
Actually very caring and worried for most agents
Siblings relationship with Yoru
Randomly starts speaking Spanish to Sage just to annoy her
Learned Chinese just to mess around with Sage
Lesbiana
Flirts with Breach as a joke
Iso actually believed she and Breach were a couple when he arrived
Homophobic to Raze and Killjoy
Non ironically has offered to find Raze a better girlfriend than Killjoy
Wants to be a mother but can't because of her duties and Sage doesn't like children
Raze
BRAZILIPPINES
Hugest anarcocomunist
Grafitti artist
Has sent Kingdom, Killjoy and Viper dozens of blackmails before joining the protocol
Didn't like Killjoy for her first years in the protocol
Boombot was created as a "rebellion" from Killjoy's tech with an alarmbot that Kingdom placed near her house
Has a younger brother who is her absolutely whole world
Capoeira.
Breach
Actually speaks Portuguese very well
Dad jokes
Hates children and the only exception is Raze's younger brother
Please please please please please read the joke I posted😭
Didn't get along with Deadlock nor Chamber at first
Gets along well with Cypher, Harbor and Fade
Likes men and makes it everyone's business and is very annoying to homophobes about it (bi)
Has kissed Harbor once just to see the look of terror on a homophobic guy's eyes
Skye
Lesbian
Owes a personal gun that she uses to scare bigots and idiots in general
Was guilty about rejecting Yoru
Still is very close to him
Skyelock beloved
The ship name should be changed to Hiking Buddies or something
Can make a cat with her powers and it plays with Nightmare when it's starting to affect Fade too much
Closer to Fade than most agents think
Morning walks with Sova and Deadlock
Yoru
Has a huge knowledge on east Asian culture in general
Speaks ainu and a little uchinaguchi
Values culture and tradition more than his life
Constantly educating Jett on Korean traditions???
Mansplains a lot
Neon (single) teases him for being single
Has the "lesbian curse" in which every woman he likes is a lesbian and it's starting to develop into an "aroace curse"
Homophobic to Killjoy
Misogynist to Killjoy
everything you can think that is bad against Killjoy
And Reyna is with him on these
Astra
Pansexual
Nerd on physics
Knows a lot about quantum physics
That was me projecting, sorry
I need more astra content to make more headcanons 😔😔😔
Galaxsea/ astrarbor/ Neptune/ sea star
Born radiant
KAY/O
Doesn't actually have feelings, he's just programmed to make humans feel loved (besides, obviously, being a war machine)
It was a way of keeping the non radiant soldiers hopeful during the radiant war
He's a robot, of course he doesn't have feelings
Killjoy is absolutely fascinated by him and wonders if it was her who built him or at least made his project
The "hatred" he has for the radiants is also a way of keeping the non radiants feeling safe and appreciated
Sage is the exception from his radiant hatred because she's always appeared to be against Reyna's radiant dominant ideal world and he read that as a powerful ally to his cause
He's AI ofc he's gonna be a little dumb even though he's from like 2060
Chamber
I refuse to
Does he like men?
Was homophobic to Killjoy and Raze when they started dating and to Sage and Reyna
Was actually homophobic
Turned out he likes men???
I'm confused
I don't like him
Neon
BRAZILIPPINES
She probably knew Killjoy before the VP or at least heard about her not as an professional but as a person
Definitely likes women
Since she became a radiant at such a young age and os so powerful there were probably lots of accidents
Was mostly isolated from the outside for a long time before the thing that is sticked to her back was finished
That'd explain why she doesn't like making new friends, she doesn't know how to
Knows a lot of stuff involving quantum physics and science since her parents work at kingdom and she has worked with them
Fade
Constantly found sleeping on the floor
Sometimes she leaves Nightmare out of her bedroom to get a peaceful night of sleep
Goes to sleep on about the same time Skye is waking up
Fadelock goes hard too
You'll rarely see her awake but when you do she looks like she hasn't slept in a decade
Doesn't actually sleep, just take 30 min naps throughout the day
Took a while to stop calling Harbor "agent Batra" during missions
I just checked and that is lore inaccurate but idc
Likes men and women, never stopped to think of it as "oh, I'm lgbt" that's just one more small detail about her
Had a cat that her brother gave her when she was a kid, it died of kidney failure a few years before she joined realm
Harbor
History and architecture nerd
Also a philosophy enthusiast
Has a tattoo that says "Memento mori et memento vivere" and that's what caught Astra's attention at first
Him and Astra spend a lot of time just nerding around
He's very caring yet not much protective to the younger agents
Randomly throws water at people who walk by
Breach and Deadlock learned on the hardest way not to be around him with a glass of water
Calls Fade Hazel because at first he thought that was how it was and never corrected it
Older brother of two sister
Pansexual
Gekko
Grafitti artist
Is an only child but is very close to the children is his neighborhood
Gay
That guy looks so gay I'm gonna cry
Has a dog named Lizard
Him and Raze talk to each other in Spanish and Portuguese and it's an absolute nightmare for others to decifrate their alien language
Asked Sage if people actually eat dogs in Asia and was punished for a week, Reyna had lots of fun
Jett still teases him about it
She told Iso about that and every time Gekko asks him what he's eating he says it's dog
Him and Deadlock are actually chill about each other for as long as one doesn't cross the other's boundaries when it comes to his radivores
Deadlock
This woman doesn't have a drop of heterosexuality on her body
She thought she liked Iso but it turned out he was just the only one not asking her to get along with radivores and radiants
Hates when she's called by her first name
Skye, Sage and Sova call her Iselin or Ise
Lost contact with her family and legally got rid of her last name Legally got rid of her last name as a way to try to protect her parents from potential threats related to her missions (edited bc apparently Frøya and Anna were indeed Iselin's sisters and I was too stupid to notice)
Fadeskyelock(?)
Used to go on lots of missions involving radivores before the VP but after the polar bear she didn't trust herself near them again
Graduated in biology
She wanted to be a scientist when she was a kid
Used to be obsessed about radivores and radiance before the bear
Iso
Can't cook for his life
Used to think he liked Deadlock but it was just compulsory heterosexuality
Aroace
Not much close with most agents but Sage and Deadlock
Him and Raze are absolute nightmares to go in mission with, those mfs listent to music so loud they can't hear anything else
KJ was scared of him
Only listens to music that are on languages he doesn't speak
Raze showed him Brazilian funk and he started listening to it during missions
Clove
Don't give a shit if they're misgendered
The pet rock is to throw at those who insist that they're a woman even after they correct them
Sleeps the whole day and is awake during the whole night
Immortal, queer, sleeps during the day... Are they a vampire?!
Randomly dresses up fancy and stays on that fit for the whole day, they can be seen wearing a suit during missions in breeze
Spends all their time awake doing unproductive stuff
Vyse
Was a physicist and later got into engeneering
She can't really remember those last years before the scions took her
Was took by the scions by Omen but none of them know
Doesn't like Iso
Her and Viper used to be very close friends, their friendship cou be compared to Jett and Phoenix's, they were very spontaneous
The "incident" was something involving her but no one really remember how it was
Ace
Had a cat named Jaguar

Okay, if you were asked who are in JJK & BNHA that you can see based on canon that are gay/bi/pan/demi, which characters are they?
For me satoaugu and bakudeku are definitely not straight (yes, I ship them but I don't think they "must be into women only" like a post I just saw). Also, kaminari, jirou, toga, nobara, megumi, kenjaku....
Ah yes, a person with discerning tastes. ✨ While this feels like a sure fire way to get me into some hot water, let's dive right in.
Tumblr media
✨🌈 Happy pride to the queer people in my phone 🌈✨
But especially these
Megumi "Only Interested in Compassion" Fushiguro - pansexual (very much choosing to overlook very subtle implications of siscon as a red herring to, of course, further contextualize ItaFushi). See also Gojo and the uncharacteristic Miwa agenda.
Satoru Gojo - Let's be so for real. Man is down astronomical for Suguru but I think there's still evidence/reason to believe he could be ace or demisexual. Can strength be conflated with love?
Kinji Hakari - waving the white flag on this one considering I'm 4 weeks behind and I don't know if there's been further clarification that might swing this verdict one way or another but support Hikari's love regardless of Kirara's gender expression/identity. Also, given current events, it'd be pretty weird if Gege slipped that in out of nowhere.
Kenjaku - 🗣️ IF GIVEN ENOUGH TIME, DO WE NOT ALL BECOME A LIL GAY!? I understand straight people probably don't have such realizations so I'm just going to sit with that reflection.
Nobara Kugisaki - be so for real. I think she had a misplaced crush in her idolization of Saori that made more sense when she left the bumble fuck countryside and could live her best life, out and proud with her muscle mommy girlfriend, Maki. Also explains, a bit, why Saori was ostracized where Nobara may have lacked understanding/context.
Maki - Plenty of gay icons without last names, queen. This one just happens to also be gay.
Eijirou Kirishima is almost so straight that he unintentionally makes a hard U-turn into flirting with queerness. His phrasing is baffling as he tends to pop up in those threads frequently with assumingly unintended innuendos but it is also reminiscent about how no one third wheels harder than a dude's girlfriend when he's with his best friend? I don't know if that makes sense but I'm throwing him in the mix as someone who maybe just needs some time ✨ regardless of the BakuDeku to KiriMina parallels.
Denki Kaminari - This kid has eyes and he uses them, gender be damned. A bi-disaster if I've ever seen one.
Minoru Mineta - IDK if his Deku confession was a translation faux pas or if Mineta, too, has fallen for the male lead's quintessential charm that wins over hearts and minds. While the Council on Bisexuality would fight me on this one... his membership is still pending.
Izuku Midoriya - I have it on good authority that Izuku is Bakusexual. Flustered by girls in the same way that any awkward and bullied kid might when encountering the opposite sex but his heart has always had its allegiance to one person. Whether that makes him gay, demi or even bi, I think it tracks.
Katsuki Bakugo - bi, pan or gay, the consensus is he is Not Straight.
Kyoka Jiro - in Smash, Jiro is a total fujoshi (she just like us fr). If you'll allow submitting MHA Smash into evidence, coupled with the canon main story, I say bi. A girl who knows Momo is stacked but also reasonably wants the attention and company of a Class 1A boy as a girl would at that age.
Himiko Toga - one thing about Toga. She is going to know and live her truth. Confidently bi ✨
Ochaco Uraraka - SPEAKING OF LIVING TRUTHS. She a little late but she has the right spirit.
Bonus, if including Kirishima didn't some how get me booed, I was going to add Yuta Okkotsu too but I thought better of it. 👉🏾👈🏾

Least favorite Tobecky headcanon? or what some people like in popular tobecky ideas but youd don't?
(Oof, I missed this one a week ago, sorry!!)
But to your question, hmm... that's a bit tough since headcanon and ideas involving tobecky within the Fandom change over time. It's very noticeable from the time before the show got canned to the Twitter resurgence a few years ago. And what is my least favorite or what I don't like... then yeah, I could say, since apparently I'm the hot take Wordgirl blog/lhj
I'm mostly gonna be talking about ones from the old fandom/things I notice that I don't personally jell with anymore, so take that as you will. Remember, these are my opinions, and they don't define how a person should feel if they like these headcanons/tropes themselves. I'm just a genderfluid cartoon bee person on the internet.
One tobecky trope/headcanon that I *could* like but I don't particularly think is used well enough is when they want to make it a love triangle. Either with Scoops, Victoria, or if you're brave, Violet. I dabble in jealousy within tobecky since it's fun. However, early fandom was kind of obsessed with making either of these characters absolutely fladerized in their worst traits so Tobey/Becky could be seen as the better option. Like Victoria being more nasty and cruel to Becky for no reason other than Tobey is the one she's after. Which I gotta roll my eyes at two interesting female characters just fighting over a boy. And in turn, the villiazation some people made Scoops out in early fandom like jeez you would think he was a real jerk in the show if you only consumed early fandom art and fics. Yes, both Victoria and Scoops have their flaws, but they wouldn't be interesting characters without them and it's a shame for either of them to be portrayed as just meanies so Becky could lean more into Tobey (a little tangent here, this also is talking about how making all other characters in Becky's personal life incompetent too, ie Violet and the Botsfords so the only one she should turn to is Tobey. Yes, there are things Tobey could understand and connect with her that her family can't, but making her friends and family heartlessly naive to her plights is dumb. Or making it that they don't trust or love her anymore after an event. Wildly out of character and not in a good way).
And I don't even hate this idea or concept as much. We'll get to the ones I do, but this is the first one that I think could have potentially if done right. Kids have crushes, and they can be resentful to others close to the person they like. It's natural. But mostly, the problem does lie with character assassination. This is one could be fun (and I've seen recent good examples), but it comes down to the interpretation.
....
Another is Becky, basically being Tobey's therapist while also being his girlfriend. I think I've talked about before on my distaste for the (Becky has to fix Tobey) trope since it's the most obvious f/m enemies to lovers trope that I dread because the female character is just used as the ultimate emotional stability for a male character who has to earn his own sense of self (if the male character is the one who was antagonist, which is like 89 percent of them). Becky, to me, doesn't have anything under control herself. Yes, it might seem like it, but have you seen this girl? Lol. So her being Tobey's number one coddler is just not in character...at least for me. Especially if it's the show accurate ages of them or heck as teens. So Tobey being in a relationship with Becky, that's just her being his therapist or her needing to instill lessons like she's his teacher. Idk that's a highly unhealthy dynamic to me, folks. Not to mention how some could write Becky as controlling or manipulative to Tobey's unstable mental health.
And there's the reverse. Some might scream at me. 'What about Tobey being the one to emotionally help Becky? Isn't that also problematic?' Well...not exactly and I can explain why! Not only is it not a common trope, nor does it have origins in a very dubious romance trope that can be misogynistic. But knowing how popular the ideas of Becky being stressed or emotionally shutting off by handling everything herself (since we can infer in the show), then it wouldn't be a too farfetched idea of her needing that bit of help or reminder from a friend or foe. And I say 'a bit' because the reverse trope doesn't have Tobey downright baby Becky or become a therapist in what she does, nor be her only emotional dependency. And yeah, the idea of Tobey being more emotionally stable than Becky is unbelievable, but again, usually when I see this trope, Tobey isn't perfect himself, and he's also a bit messed up. I don't know if I'm explaining it right, but to peeps who read a lot of the modern fanfictions, you know what I mean.
I think the good mixture of both of these is them obviously being good for each other in an equal manner.
...
My final one is the one where Tobey basically gets rewarded for being pushy/crossing boundaries. "Oh, he had to blackmail her or threaten to destroy something so she could fess up her TRUE emotions." Or "he had to socially engineer his way to reveal her identity so she could like him" (this one is a trope that's done right when tobey literally gets hit with the big consequences as he should, we all know this, because it's half of the reveal plot lines in tobecky content) but for some reason a very few treat this as a necessary thing for him to do despite how very obviously bad it is. Becky should slap him if he does that and if thinks he's in the right.
...
And yeah, that's the ones I could think of. Again, like I said, this is my opinion!! If you like using these tropes, power to you, it's not my thing--and I have my problems with them. Again, I think there is potential for some of them to be done correctly or at least with a twist that can be interesting. I like my fair share of messy tobecky, I'm a messy bee. And this ship is interesting in many ways. But there's probably a reason why some have their issues.
Thank you anon for the ask!

I know it's very in right now to pounce on any woman or girl (fictional or otherwise) who talks about experiences of feeling different/behaving "different" or "weird" or "quirky" and call them an NLOG, but let's remember that a lot of us grew up being criticized and made fun of for our differences to the point that we expected people to think we were weird and offputting by default. Some of us learned that in certain situations, we could make ourselves more palatable by saying "sorry, I know this thing I'm into is weird," or "you probably think this is boring," because at the very least we showed self-awareness and it took some of the punch out of other people's judgment.
And some of us said "screw you, I guess I'm not like other girls and that's completely fine, please leave me alone and just let me be myself". Some of us probably developed some internalized misogyny, but I don't think blaming adolescent girls for doing what they could to deal with the insecurities and self-loathing instilled in them from a young age is the answer.
Don't mind me, just remembering people who got mad at me when I was a kid for being bad at socializing with kids my age and telling me the reason I hated parties was because "I think I'm better than everyone else," and not because some social interactions made me so nervous I would hide in the bathroom and cry.
Idk, some girls are legitimately *actually* different for a variety of reasons (race, class, sexuality, neurodivergence, mental health, etc) and simply acknowledging the reality of your experiences doesn't automatically mean you hate other women.

hi im putting all my asks in one post again. these are from like the past month and a half approx? some digimon thoughts some tmnt thoughts some art musings u know the usual
Tumblr media
@waywardistics YAYY thank you so much for ordering! I'm glad it got to you & that you are enjoying it!
this is kind of a missive to everyone who ordered but: I am very nervous about pre-orders whenever I do them... nervous that not very many people will order, nervous that there will be supply chain or production dilemmas and I won't be able to get copies out to people in a timely fashion, nervous about having people's money but having an indeterminate amt of time where i have not yet "held up my part of the bargain" etc etc SO. THANK U GUYS...FOR ORDERING and being patient and im so glad it got to y'all
Tumblr media
@seanonthemoon (idk why i cant tag u BUT) interesting... i gotta be honest I don't think abt the crests that much. i agree that they're very much like heres the "girl" crest heres the "nerd boy" crest etc to the point that it becomes almost meaningless. but i think what makes them even more meaningless to me, and is probably the reason they kind of designated girl/boy crests etc is that i think like the digivices they're toys and merchandise more than they are actual narrative tools LOL. I wouldve loved something with cody and mimi! theyre both so deeply empathetic and sensitive.. theres a lot they share but i think because they look so different on the surface it would make it difficult to market that merch...booo capitalism boooo toy marketing its all sexist bullshit at least here in the u.s. idk if japan is that different though.
I'm actually a little frustrated with how often 02 and 02 related media squanders cody in general lol. he feels like a parallel of izzy, joe, and TK(season 1 tk) while also being kind of none of those and suffering through lackluster characterization as a result... and then once ken joins the team it feels a little redundant. there's a couple cody-centric eps of 02 I remember really liking but then i think abt how he's been used since in like post-series content and 02:the beginning where they made him type on the computer even though obviously that's yoleis thing but because he had nothing else to do and aghh... my blood boils. i feel like the youngest but most serious anime achetype even at its bare bones is actually rly interesting idk why they don't play it up. UM. Once again my opinion is that he should be taller LOL and maybe they should play up his kendo martial arts honorable training stuff more idk. tallest + youngest + most serious just seems like a recipe for success for me. well. theres still time. and theres always fanfic.
Tumblr media
THIS IS SO NICE TO SAY and not the first time someone has said it but i appreciate it everytime because i really admire the mm art style so much. It's like part of why I got really into the movie because I really recognized my own artistic sensibilities and aspirations in the way they stylized everything.
Tumblr media
UM And i feel like since watching the movie and looking at all the concept art and making my own art i do feel like its only become more obvious how much my own art is lacking LOL LIKE when you see something that feels so similar I think the differences only become more stark. those artists are definitely on a different level than me. But it's nice to hear people say it doesn't look so different from their pov. thank u ^^
thank u!!!!!!! i love mundanity and naturalism... there's something so beautiful abt it to me lol... I feel like my anatomy needs work actually but ive been feeling better abt it this year so it's good to hear! thank you!
Tumblr media
DLKGDSGDLALSNDF WAS IT TOO FAR..?? firstly, yeah I was thinking late teen/young adult ages for both of them ie 18-19ish, definitely not the age the kids are in the movie lol.
Tumblr media
but also they arent DOING anything in that pic it is literally just a confrontation + some innuendo... I think teens should be allowed some less than subtle innuendo.. its like one of the top 3 classically teen pastimes...
this is such a funny ask to get because i feel like i haven't been able to do thin lineart until like. this past year or two maybe LOL. UM having a line-centric art job helped I think. I started on craig of the creek back in 2022 and thats a show where we spend a lot of time inking so I had a job where I was constantly moderating my line weight 40 hours a week every week for over a year. disappointingly, much of improvement is simply horrendous amounts of practice.
Here's a tip though: I think a lot of thin lineart boils down to confidence. I think instinctively we read thick, bold, fast lines as confident but theres actually a lot of obscuring you can do with a thick line. if you're not sure whether the nose on the face or a browline should be a little more left or a little more down you can hide that with a thick line and pretend its a shadow. or hide it with a bunch of quick lines and the eye can kind of approximate where looks best among the mass.. whereas a thin line is rly singular and stark and hides nothing, it needs to be precise. so anytime i know i want thin lineart i spend a LOT of time sketching, making sure i know exactly where i want my lines to go. so im not second guessing by the time im inking...
ok thats kind of a broad tip lol... here's one thats more applicable: IF POSSIBLE, lower your pressure sensitivity on your device. most devices have some way to edit your pressure sensitivity curve. I use a surface pro at home and this is what my pressure curve looks like most of the time.
Tumblr media
When I work on a wacom it looks even more like a reverse L shape LOL. I'm naturally a really heavy-handed artist and I use a "light" or "hard" pressure curve to compensate for how hard I'm always pressing on the pen lol. if you're like me and you struggle with going too hard with the ink too fast... this will probably help a lot!
Tumblr media
SFHASLDFH I LOVE THIS ASK this is like the type of question a person gets asked when chalk drawing on the sidewalk at recess LOL. but i understand because I've been struggling also for like. months. I think I'm finally starting to nail it down though so here's some of my observations.
Tumblr media
[feel free to save this img but **please do not re-post it or share broadly**. my biggest fear in the world is to spend 30 min on some notes and become a widely proliferated art tutorial im not even kidding. i made it low contrast and difficult to read on purpose.]
my other tip is to just look at and study a lot of reference because that's all ive been doing. the tmnt are really cartoony so its difficult to use like actual anatomical reference unless ur going for that look BUT theres been so many adaptions in so many different styles that there's a real treasure trove of stuff to look at for how to simplify, stylize, and dissect these characters while keeping the recognizable essence. so theres lots to pull from.
Tumblr media
If you want to expand further, it's also good to have 5) something sci-fi 6)something fantasy 7)something mundane/slice of life. a bedroom is a really good go-to. And of course some bgs can be two or more of these things at once.
I've definitely answered asks abt bg tips before but here's one specifically for if you want to do bg design for a job:
Your portfolio should probably have at least one of each of the following 1) an interior 2) an exterior 3) a cityscape 4) a nature scene. Just to cover kind of the basics of what you'd be asked to draw on any given project.
I actually feel like I don't have that many cityscrapes in my portfolio... this is something I'm gonna try to work on in the coming year LOL. OH ALSO. This is a very basic tip and people will tell you it all the time but its worth repeating: look up portfolio websites of artists who have the job you want. An easy way to do this is to go onto imdb for any cartoon or movie you like and to find the names listed as "bg/background designer" or whatever then just google that name +"art" or "animation" most artists have some public facing internet presence so it's not hard. spend time studying their work and hold those images in your head! it's a good way to get a good idea of what "industry standard" looks like and comparing ur own art to it... I know people sometimes get bummed comparing their art to others but if you can keep your head up lol.. it'll help you figure out what you need to work on!
.
.
.
ok thats all i have to say sorry for typing so much. happy new year everybody who read this far LMAO!!!!!

what's your opinion on the big 3? When I was hyperfoxed on this series they were the thing I care Abt the most (I enjoyed season 4, obv I'd change some stuff now but I still remember it being atleast ok)
I hate how dirty they did my girl nejire, as far as I'm aware they didn't even do anything with her after the whole pagent thing she just got a small backstory about how she was sad (don't know all of it I haven't been keeping up that well w the manga)
mirios not having a quirky and having to save eri (a girl who I can't imagine would be that skilled at the age she is and has been training on lizards to give his quirk back all together, I'd imagine it taking a few more months but bnhas time is shit so) and coming back in the war arc to punch one person and then basically do noting iicr
The only decently written one was amajiki, I wish they had more going on I think they have a fun dynamic (w them helping taking care of eri and me rlly liking idk what it's called but I love the fluff it brings) :(
Lots of mixed feelings, in all honesty. Lots of mixed feelings.
I'll admit, a big part of my mixed feelings about them is they showed up as the latest, 'Stomp on Izuku's everything' at the point in the story where it was becoming obvious that there was always something stomping on Izuku, and that gave me a bad first impression on them I've never been able to shake... which isn't helped by how they're connected to the clusterfuck of Nighteye, of all people, which is kind of my whole thing with Mirio (warning; I am biased):
As a person, he's obviously nice, but as a character, basiclly his entire reason for existing was, 'give Izuku an existential crisis' and I don't think I've ever forgiven him for that, really. His entire character is just bigger, stronger, older, happier, more capable, more confident, more successful, more loved Izuku, who had a Quirk his whole life and only had to dig deep to find out how strong it, and he, was all along.
Unironically. It's....
It's a really bad look, to be blunt; he feels kind of like a bad fanfiction character written by a bad writer who wanted to put their super special OC in the story, except he's canon.
Since we've never seen him even think something unheroic, there's really nothing that distinguishes him from that impression factual statement, which, again, makes it hard for me to give a shit about him, or even remember him... which is a problem Hori seems to share, lol. It doesn't help that I loathe Sir Nighteye and that most of his development time is spent admiring him, to boot, and that his parts of the story are either empty or focused on a living plot device I can't quite like no matter how hard I try because of how blatant the emotional manipulation is about the biggest story breaking, SOD shattering plot device until Stars and Stripes showed up.
If he ever got any kind of development to flesh him out a human being rather than being either Izuku and/or a heroic archetype, it'd help, but beyond all of that his biggest personality trait is liking jokes, and that barely even comes up. Or, rather, considering both the Final Arc and his response to Bakugou's name, along with Nighteye's own tendencies, 'jokes', maybe.
He doesn't deserve it, I admit it, it's not his fault, but I just can't get past that. He also doesn't deserve to just be forgotten until his big moment of a butt joke, but... MHA, everyone. In all honesty, I'd just like him better if his entire story arc didn't exist in and as some of the worst parts of the Overhaul arc, but he's tainted by that fact.
I freely admit that I am unfairly biased against him, so take all of that with a mountain of salt.
As a side note though, god, the story doesn't seem to realize how badly Nighteye is using the poor kid; Mirio thinks Nighteye is training him because he's worthy, while Nighteye mainly seems to be doing it because he's the closest thing to an All Might clone he can get, bar him actually cloning All Might, even if he grew to like him for who he is. I'm not sure Nighteye ever thought of Mirio with just his Quirk as anything more than a temporary situation; even at the start of canon, when on his own merits he's rising to fame with how successful he is, Nighteye's overall focus is still about getting AFO into the kid.
I almost wish I could see Nighteye explaining how all of his training came down to getting All Might's Quirk, just to see MIrio react and tear Nighteye down a peg about it, except Hori's history of handling these kinds of things means he'd never be allowed to be properly offended on his own behalf, the poor bastard.
Moving on, Tamaki. Out of all of them, he's had the biggest of an on-screen story arc, and in a intellectual way his Quirk is easily the most interesting. Unfortunately, while he has a personality, it feels so bland at times that he's far easier to remember for his Quirk than who he is.
I liked his story, really, but at the time it was overshadowed by Mirio and his everything, and by the time he showed back up it was clear how irrelevant it and he was, so it was more about how (admittedly, very) cool he get his Quirk to be than it was about him, and with some brutal honesty, it's probably because his Quirk is so interesting that he even got that much focus beyond that initial arc by Hori.
And... Nejirie.
In a combat sense she's easily the best of them, really; Mirio is almost purely defensive, which limits him (especially if he's not surprising someone with it) while Tamaki's Quirk, while flexible, is so conditional in ways that can easily hold him back (we only ever see him fight with full preparation; if he's not gearing for a fight he'd be easy to ambush), and like a lot of things in the Final Arc, his big laser canon thing is.... questionable.
Nejirie, though, is just simply powerful. In a setting where everyone has one power and one main application of that power, where you either fly or blast things, but not both, she's the closest I've seen to a 'traditional' super hero, like you'd see in Marvel or DC.
At the same time, though, out of the three of them she least has a story, for obvious reasons, and it's a disgrace, really. If Hori had just spent some time on her, on the her backstory that apparently exists (yeah, I'm not sure where that is either), she could have been so interesting... but really, all she is is the Girl Teammate. Her personality traits are The Girl Teammate's personality traits. She's just The Girl Teammate stamped over all of the interesting stuff, and it's such a waste, it really is.
And finally, as a unit? The Big Three is a shiny toy that Hori forgot in the corner somewhere as soon as he got bored with it. He spent a few minutes oohing and aahing over them, focusing really hard on developing interesting powers, how they could be used, and how strong they were, only to start to lose interest as soon as those powers were established, and he was writing the three of them off before their introductory arc was even over.

So I noticed that the criteria states that the symptoms have to show themselves before 15. However, I feel like I've developed my empathy has lowered in the last 5 years or so. Stealing and some purposeful manipulation is all I can really think of as things I did as a child, other than that I was a pretty sensitive kid. But after every traumatic event I feel like a part of me shut down my feelings, and I remember losing some of that automatic emotional tug reaction to things. However, it's only recently that I went through a prolonged period of isolated emotional agony for basically years on end. Ever since then I've been feel pretty irritated at people's emotional displays and don't feel any instinctual pity. I've been having trouble not getting straight up angry. I did still cry when my cat died, and I still feel some emotions, especially with fiction. I wouldn't torture an animal for no reason, but I often think about harming others physically. I'm agonizingly bored all the time, and I feel like my "normal" reactions to things, like acting really sorry, have just become habit more than anything else. Idk what I'm asking for here tbh. Thanks anyway.
Upon re-checking the DSM criteria for this ask, I believe what it is saying is that some marked symptoms of ASPD (aka non-age appropriate antisocial traits not otherwise attributable to normal development and/or other known issues), not that you have to have every symptom that would lead to diagnosis before age 15. Technically, it actually says there must be “evidence of conduct disorder with onset before age 15 years” which has much different criteria than ASPD does. Stealing and manipulation, if done frequently enough, could very likely qualify for that criteria, depending on the opinion of the professional doing the evaluation. I could be wrong, but that is how I am reading it, and I think it would make more sense that way.
Even if you were in the process of developing ASPD as a child, the reason that it can’t be diagnosed before 18 is that it, for the most part, is said to be able to be avoided before that age, even in a child with antisocial traits, if they are given adequate support. In children who go on to develop ASPD, these antisocial traits worsen over time rather than get better, and solidify into a true personality disorder as the brain moves past the developmental stage where it could be avoided. Therefore, it stands to reason imo that the symptoms would likely continue getting worse and potentially have entirely new symptoms begin to show up later in life. After all, one of the symptoms of ASPD is substance abuse, and while many teens engage with substances, it is far more common to see that symptom pop up well past the 15 year old limit.
In the presence of new/extended trauma post-age 15, I would honestly be more surprised to find a pwASPD whose symptoms *didn’t* worsen in response to that. The more our maladaptive worldview is confirmed - such as through experiencing further trauma - the more our brains double-down because it has been proven right. When that happens, it can justify reacting more harshly and putting up more solid defenses against the danger that evidently may show up at any moment, as far as our brains are concerned. At its core, ASPD is a response to trauma (at least the *vast* majority of the time), so the more trauma you add, the greater that response may be.
Plain text below the cut:

DAMN SO IM NOT THE ONLY ONE WHO HAD A DU TO OBEY ME PIPELINE. that fandom made me worse and i think it made my life go downhill (/hj). i was so mean like we weren't all children with unrestricted internet access idk why i thought it was that serious </3 (sorry i was reading ur blog and saw a post responding to someone and i went "wait i minute" and had a few flashbacks)
OMG HEYYYY (more ex fandom ranting under the cut!)
first, welcome!! so glad you found a better fandom to migrate to and that you aren't stuck in the past like some people i knew. you are all good, no need to apologize. it's so crazy to me that i've encountered not one, but two ex du fans out in the wild! i thought there were about fifteen of us total lol. i know that war flashback feeling. was digging through old screenshots for something the other day and i found my stash and had to take a moment. sorry if some of this makes no sense or has odd flow. i'm word vomiting and i'm pretty tired rn (in the middle of drinking a matcha, coffee, and monster all at the same time). college has been sucking the life out of me, but i just had to answer this immediately
yeah it was absolutely wild man. i don't think anyone except like a few people liked me because to this day i'm still only friends with two of them. the way i was absolutely witched hunted i tell you :sob: i 100% made more enemies than friends. even my readers were mean, and i just took it all for some reason? i've been on tumblr for about a year and half now, and i haven't had a single mean fan, but back in the day, i think i had more than i can count. yes i was on wattpad for longer, but considering the ratio, that's crazy. i have about 2.2k followers here (love all of you guys mwa mwa) and i have zero mean fans. on wattpad i think i have like 260 something, and the fact that i cant count the amount of mean fans i had is insane. if i didn't have those friends, i would be convinced it was a fever dream. if you were on wattpad at the time, you'd understand how jarring the swap from that fandom to this one would be. fanfics are allowed? still kinda crazy to me actually. can't believe being an author is welcome here! im part of a zine now!!! i didn't think that was every going to happen. have no clue how the hell this pipeline happened, but hey! at least there's two examples lol. like i said before, i honestly cannot tell if it made me better or worse, but i can for sure think of all the ways it made me worse! haha.
yeah we were all kids with unrestricted internet access everyone was like 10 to 14. i was 13 or 14 when i entered the fandom and that was old LOL. can't believe i was the responsible adult in the room at 14! my now best friend was like 11 or so at the time. maybe its the trauma bonding or something, but we're basically siblings now. we are inseparable, package deal if you will. if you remember chev, i am exactly one day older than him lol <3 my favorite running joke but it also shows my age. the swap to this fandom was so odd, because now i'm a baby compared to everyone else lol. i can't believe i'm no longer a mediator or anything. this fandom is pretty unproblematic and it's so so refreshing to just be able to exist
if you knew who i was back in the day and didn't hate me, feel free to reach out! if you didn't still feel free to reach out haha. even if you didn't know me, you probably knew my best friend whether you liked it or not haha. i understand if you don't want to, but if you ever want to chat, i totally wouldn't mind! feel free to send me a dm and i can give you my discord. would be nice to get another outside perspective. if not, again, totally fine! have a wonderful day and hope you're recovering well. you're a fighter and deserve the best! hugs and kisses :)

SO this is probably something covered in the manga which I have since entirely forgotten, but. The Juunishi thing is reincarnation, right? As in, whenever the old Horse or Dog or whatever dies, they're soon/immediately after reborn as another new Sohma family baby?
Obviously there are metatextual reasons why the main characters are mostly grouped around the same rough generational range... but if you think of it that way, it makes more sense: in modern days, there's not that much variation in how old people get before they die, so it kinda makes sense that they tend to die and therefore be reborn at within a couple of decades of one another? maybe????? (of course this has been going on for a Long Time and stuff like infant mortality or just death at a young age due to injury/illness used to be much more common but. ignore that. maybe.)
ANYWAY my point is. Could Sohma adults potentially try to game the system and time it such that their kids will be born around about when older Juunishi members die? Thus giving themselves a way better chance of having their kid be one? (For those who would care about that, which we know at least some do.)
Specifically, I'm not sure if we ever got a stated reason for the huge age gap between Yuki and Ayame... but this sure as hell sounds like a plausible one, giving everything we know about Yuki's mum. Like, IDK if she deliberately tried to get the Snake (the Snake, Dog, and Dragon are all very similar in age, so presuming that their previous reincarnations' deaths weren't super sudden, that'd offer better than usual odds of getting at least one) and then realised she could do better, or if she got the Snake but wasn't satisfied and started planning things out for the Big One...
Though. the Rat would most DEFINITELY have been a high risk/high reward goal. Because. This time around, at the very least, the Rat and Cat both ended up the same age. :'D
Which, now that sounds like a fanfic idea just waiting to happen... but in practice, IDK if it would've really changed all THAT much? Yuki's mum would almost certainly have just disowned Kyou lmfao (possibly while trying to hide that he was even hers so she wouldn't be associated with the Cat??? no clue how she'd manage that though. I feel like the two options are some other random woman gets him and immediately the curse is revealed [and the main house would find out about that, ofc] or Kyou fjucking dies. I guess she could try to pass him off on a single father????????)
anyway uhh I know less about Kyou's parents. but. his dad doesn't seem the type to NOT send his kid off to Akito, especially if there was something in it for him.
So if this isn't that wacked-out 'the Cat gets weirdly lost for a while because he grows up with a random dude who doesn't even figure out about the curse for several years making it way harder for the Main House to track him (and honestly given that the juunishi transform when they're too weak and babies are Definitionally Defenceless even this doesn't seem all that realistic)' scenario. I guess the main difference would be just that Kyou and Ayame are siblings. Presumably in this case Kyou still gets raised by Kazuma and everyone knows his mum is his mum but she maintains some level of status by having the Snake. And I guess in this world Ayame gets treated more like Yuki because she doesn't have a better option this time round and is desperate to distance herself from the Cat lmao.
That's about as far as I've thought it through hahahaha because in the end this is more of a Kyou-centric thought experiment than Yuki really. But it's still kinda interesting (to me)!!!!!

IM LATE 4 THE ASK IM SORRY but i feel uncomfortable with that *one* ship in the laserhawk fandom too, but it's not because i have them as f/os or anything, it's because Ray in one scene says to him "when i was your age" so basically it's a big age gap between them. i see them more like father and son idk if you see my vision
I DO SEE YOUR VISION, ANON. I SEE IT BRIGHT AND CLEAR. ray has been doing work for eden for... god, longer than the warden has been alive, and she clearly looks to be at least 30 - when she was a kid, ray was STILL working as a newscaster. so in regards to ray we're talking at the VERY LEAST he has to be in his 50's. there is just no logical way he could be any younger.
telling bullfrog "when I was your age I thought a scholarship was going to change everything" and showing him graduating from college implies that bullfrog is college-aged - around early 20's. that's an age gap of at least 30. and if you ask me, deliberately stating "when I was your age" sounds like a clear establishment that there is a power dynamic in play - as there always will be with large age gaps where one party is as young as bullfrog.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
and obligatorily (is that a word?) I also have to mention this line...
Tumblr media
they're both adults and I'm not saying it's inherently bad to ship them - like seriously I am not interested in starting discourse about it, please don't come into my inbox looking to start an argument, but it shouldn't be surprising that some people are uncomfortable with it because of the large age gap. 💀
for that reason I think a familial dynamic works way better with them! like the father and son thing you mentioned. I've seen AUs that incorporate that and it is ADORABLE. there was one where rayman found and adopted bullfrog as a tadpole and it was the cutest thing ever! 🥺

Honestly i have so much sympathy for Ailette and the way she mischaracterises Tesilid.
like i myself also fixate on certain parts of the story and extrapolate maybe a bit too much - although in my defence i've only read like half the story.
-but the same can kind of be said of Ailette? This Tesilid is having a new, currently-being-written chapter of his life. In fact she kind of has things even worse, because her characterisation of Tesilid is based off OG!Tesilid, but current Tesilid had his life and outlook irreversibly changed when they met aged 10. But they never really interacted enough afterwards for Ailette to realise just how much of an impact she made on him. She hasn't really had a strong reason to rethink her characterisation of him. Not to mention that she first read the book with her middle school reading comprehension, which. Probably coloured her interpretation for the worse, at least a little.
I really wish Ailette would go into more detail about her own experience as a reader, to really see better how she's viewing this world and its people.
Which paragraphs are the ones that she thinks defines Tesilid's character? (Mine is "I'm praying that they'll all fail the test and go home".)
Which are the ones that made her cry? (Mine's "Right... you're on the side of this world.")
Which are her favourite silly Tesilid moments that make her so fond of teasing Tesilid? (iliac bones)
Which are the ones that reverberate in her head and which won't leave her alone? (Mine is "Please... show me some of that petty mercy too.")
I feel like the fun part of these kinds of isekai story is that. Whatever reaction you had towards Tesilid, be it "wow what a cute kid" or "i'm going to cry, i need to wrap him in a blanket where the world can't hurt him anymore" or "actually he should just destroy the world tbh i would support him", she's been there first and has been doing for at least 10 years, she's the OG. And she's super intense about it too. Like she can say "I need to save him because the story dictates it" all she wants, but the way she reacts so intensely and immediately to Tesilid in danger really speaks volumes of how much emotional investment she has in this guy. Like idk if she really rotates him in her head as much as I do - that might be a me problem - but if you rotate a character in your head enough times while fixating on certain moments and not others, you probably would end up with a biased interpretation of the character. Especially if you don't have someone else to bounce ideas off. And this gets worse if you're actually living in the character's world, because characters in stories serve certain narrative functions, so all their actions which get included in the narration are inherently biased towards portraying them in a certain way that serves said narrative function. But humans are a lot messier and more dynamic.
i just. shakes her up and down. love the concept of an isekai protagonist and the OG protagonist that they love so much.
anyway this whole post is a testament to how much Omniscient Reader's Viewpoint changed the way I interpret fiction and especially isekai stories. Not me anthromorphozing Ailette as if she's really a person and fellow fan who exists and isn't a character lmaoo, i'm definitely not having a "we're all fragments of kim dokja" moment, no sir. i definitely didn't subconsciously draw connections between ORV's isekai'd MC and myself and S-Class Heroine's isekai'd MC and our commonalities as readers who rotate the same story in their heads very many times, and suddenly make a realisation that's actually more relevant to ORV than the actual story that prompted all this. one whole year after i last read ORV, because ORV's story is So Much and so monumental that i'm still haunted by it and figuring it out and it lowkey never left my mind, even after a whole year. (please read orv.) like there are a lot of otome isekai stories about isekai'd MCs realising that the people in their lives don't line up with the OG characters, but none of these stories ever made me viscerally realise what it was probably like for kim dokja, because none of them had isekai'd MCs be that unironically obsessed with their OG protags, and more importantly none of them made me constantly rotate the OG protagonist in my head the way S-Class Heroine does. Han Sooyoung was right, you get as much out of a story as you put in to reading it and re-reading it and re-interpreting it. By putting so much time into S-Class Heroine I accidentally made some relevations about the other story that I was always trying to figure out at the back of my mind. Holy shit.

OUGH just wanted to let you know I'm storing all these hcs away that when I have the time and energy to write it out, I will. Something about Drayton is just making me rattle the bars of my cage fr fr
Gosh speaking of Drayton not being able to keep up with training + staying up for Iris, it reminds me of that other ask where Iris finds him asleep at the table. Just picturing she's holding Drayton's hand, feeling her heart break to pieces when she can circle her fingers around his wrist.
With the clothes Drayton is wearing + training he tries and fails to complete, maybe it hides how he's a smidge underweight for someone his age and height. Maybe he eats late or skips meals altogether because he prefers catching a nap than eating, and because he wants to eat with Iris. He keeps snacking on various snacks in the clubroom cause it staves off feeling hungry but it's not enough for a growing body y'know?
Now I'm also picturing Crispin, who doesn't fully understand but he too once grabbed Drayton's hand for whatever reason and like Iris, notices how his fingers can almost circle around Drayton's wrist. He knows at least that for a guy like Drayton, he shouldn't be able to do that. Crispin loves cooking, and he wants people to eat what they need cause 'food's important for your development!!' so he starts making 'test dishes' and having Drayton be his main taste tester.
Drayton has token complaints but he can't say no, not when Crispin's earnest eyes are looking at him and genuinely wants feedback so he eats, easing hunger that he wasn't really paying attention to. It becomes a routine, so much so that when Drayton sees Crispin with a box or dish he's just 'okay lay it on me. What is it this time?'
Just love these kids sm fr. I like to think that, for all their bickering, they care and look out for one another
Oughghgh your honour this is melting my fucking heart too holy shit😭😭
No but that's so sweet of Crispin tho, that he also finds out abt Drayton not eating much so he makes him food which he disguises as his test dishes, but really, it's also a way to find out what dishes Drayton actually likes so he can make more of it for him
But what also gets me is the fact Drayton did have a dialogue going on how he likes the Academy Special or smth bc it's soft and he can gulp it down, barely even have to chew, so idk what to make of that without like,, y'know making it triggering for peeps so yeah ask me to tag stuff bc this involves,, this. Anyways, y'know, I do wanna say that's not on him being lazy that he doesn't chew his food much, rather, he just doesn't have the energy for it, or he just have a handful of food he can actually stomach down. Or he's a picky eater which then I will proceed to project lmfaooo
But also it'd be sweet tho if Iris does try to bring food from other regions back home after every Champion meet ups. Like yeah she sometimes come home late, but she always try to head home at least a lil bit earlier, oftentimes leaving the league duties to Hilbert for a bit, just so she can hang out w Drayton who she now knows always wait for her to come back home. So far he likes the curry from Galar bc it reminds of the one Crispin made too
That'd be so cute tho, Iris catching up w him, asking him abt his friends, she knows better than to ask him abt his classes
And he's there telling her abt how this one guy, Kieran, managed to beat him and became the BB League Champion, but now he isn't Champion and didn't join the league again. Then he tells her abt his friends, the E4, Carmine, and even some other students that talk to him. He then mentions abt the curry Crispin made too, how it's similar to the one Iris made, and Iris asks more abt him
And yeah, tells her how Crispin always makes these test dishes and would have him taste it first, some are good, some aren't much, but he loves how Crispin makes him his favourites sometimes
Imagine Iris smiling at that tho, that at least he eats well at school, when she subtly reached out to grab his wrist again while he was talking more abt his friends, she noticed it wasn't all skin and bone anymore, which lifted her spirits a bit, it was a small change but it was a change she'd love to see more of. Drayton said Crispin wanted to be a chef, well, perhaps as a thanks, Iris could pull some strings and have Diantha agree to let Siebold teach Crispin more abt being a chef, she thinks it's only fair for taking care of her brother while she's away
After catching up, Drayton grew tired, ofc, it was rather late, he stayed up late again for her, she tells him everytime he doesn't have to, but he really wants to. Imagine tho like true siblings Drayton asks Iris to carry him cause "what's the point of all that training with gramps if you won't put your muscles to good use."
"and good use being me carrying you to your own room?"
He gives her a cheeky smile all "yeah," which then made her roll her eyes at him
"fine, just this one time."
And just deadass gives him a piggyback ride lmfao, she's just "you're getting old for this, Dray."
"no I'm not, plus you owe me, you missed our training day so now you have to carry me."
But imagine tho as she's carrying him to his room, he fell asleep, and Iris finally noticed he wasn't as light as he was before, he grew a bit heavier than she last remembered, and that actually made her happy; she really has to give her thanks to Drayton's friends for taking care of him while she was away doing her Champion duties. But also her making a promise to herself to be on break for a bit and have Hilbert deal w being Unova's Champion while she really catches up w her brother, ofc, it's been a while, and she'd rather not have him stay up late again just to wait for her to come back home

ALRIGHT TUMBLR I HAVE FINISHED DRAGON AGE THE VEILGUARD
AND SO I RETURN
and here are my thoughts under the cut, WILL CONTAIN SPOILERS so don't click unless you're ready for that.
messy AND VERY LONG thoughts on the game in no particular order here we go:
y'all i am so torn about this game. i don't love it. i REALLY wanted to love it. I went in with a truly open mind and honestly pretty damn hyped, nothing i had seen before release had managed to taint my opinion going into this. but i did not love veilguard. I didn't necessarily HATE it either, but it's the type of game i really am not sure if i'll ever be able to bring myself to replay.
For those interested it took me roughly 90 hours of playtime to finish the game (have not counted me playing the character creator for 4 hours into those 90 hours lol... lmao....). I have done every quest (except for 1 very minor side quest when at the end i felt fucking DONE), I have explored not 100% of every area but like 85-90% of all statues and chests and shit found in all areas. And I have 92% of achievements in that first playthrough. So I was fairly thorough cause I could tell I might never touch this game again but I'm not a completionist.
My Rook is named Valeria de Riva and she's an elven rogue and an antivan crow. And I love her face to bits she's short and adorable, those 4 hours in character creator was worth it lmao but oh boy do i regret the voice I picked. i'm sorry but Erika Ishii's voice acting did NOT click for me in this, the delivery felt terrible 85% of the time. but I have that problem with inquisition too so whatever.
I also had headcanoned that Valeria de Riva was originally born as a slave in Tevinter, and bought by the Antivan Crows as a kid. As we've been told since origins that the crows buy kids (see Zevran). BIG FUCKING MISTAKE to make headcanons like this for veilguard. nothing about Rooks antivan crow intro contradicts this kind of headcanon but the game will randomly spring information about your character on you depending on background you've picked, Rook isn't a blank slate but you also don't get to know what character you're fully playing from the start which annoys me.
The antivan crows have also imo been extremely.... idk?? softened?? white washed???? and that frustrates me a lot as someone who wanted to play a character that was a little bit at war with the faction they were from. It annoys me that the antivan crows are now just freedom fighters and heroes according to the narrative and you have no chance to ever question how they do things. it also feels like a weird thing to say but there is too little racism in this game. by which i mean we finally get to see Tevinter and we don't really ever get to see how elves are treated within Tevinter. The only slaves we ever see are the mustache twirling evil venatori sitting on some poor dudes in that one scene.
which bring me to the fact that THERE ARE NO INTERESTING VILLAINS IN THIS GAME. none. (Besides Solas, depending on if you see him as a villain or not I guess.) everyone is just evil and crazy. I'd have loved Elgar'nan actually as a villain, and I'm fine with him (and Ghilan'nain) specifically being evil and crazy, he does come across as imposing and scary to me and a better villain than corphypants. BUT SINCE EVERY FACTION WE FIGHT AGAINST IS JUST CRAZY AND EVIL, it kinda falls flat to me. I'd have liked to see more people side with the gods for more ambiguous or misguided reasons I guess, like maybe the elves?
I wanted more conflict and tension between the races of thedas from the fact that the elven gods are the ones causing all this. some consequences from the narrative? but there's nothing like that.
the writing is in a lot of places at best bland and at worst... bad. i love how much we get to interact with our companions in the lighthouse and that they have their own relationships and conversations, but quantity does not beat quality. I'd love this system of having conversations if the companions and the romances were more interesting. A lot of the companions feel bland to me cause they start out mostly perfect from the get go, there's not a lot of room for character growth or you know... any form of character arc?
I romanced Taash and it's an alright romance, I like Taash. and I guess the reason I like them is cause they are one of the few companions that aren't perfect and I've already seen Discourse about hating them for it. I guess sometimes they are A Little Bit Difficult??? They're not sure who they are at the beginning and isn't great at expressing themselves, they have very short responses and I felt at least in the romance path they learned to get a little bit better at this with Rook. But I really wish this could've been expanded on MORE, their problems with dealing with their emotions are just something they mention to Rook but it's not really shown.
AND ALSO... despite the game being more 'handcrafted' with 'less filler'.... I STILL think it has too much fucking filler and boring quests??? the combat was fun in the beginning but overstayed its welcome imo.
BUT AFTER ALL THIS DISAPPOINTMENT.... I still leave the game with an alright feeling I guess cause what I DID ENJOY OF THE GAME WAS EVERYTHING THAT HAD TO DO WITH SOLAS. INCLUDING THE ENDING THAT I GOT. I think they nailed how to do him in this game, and his dynamic with rook, and the lore around him and the ancient elves and the titans etc etc. I'm extremely satisfied with the happy solavellan ending I got and it felt fucking good to have the three important women in his life (lmao) convince him to redeem himself. and that he didn't get an easy way out, like dying for that redemption.
SO THIS IS THE FIRST TIME I THINK I'VE EVER EXPERIENCED MOSTLY KINDA DISLIKING A GAME/FINDING A GAME BLAND BUT LOVING THE ENDING???? usually it's the other way around with bioware games??? so... yeah.

Sorry, you're going to have me rambling in your ask(?) box now.
I'm the one that sent the ask about Nancy cheating and ok. Female infidelity in Stranger Things bugs me. Like Karen is about to cheat on her husband (With someone young enough to be her son and I hate Billy but he should have not been the guy Karen tried to cheat on her husband with. Like anyone Karen's age. ANyone) and she decides not to and it has no impact! She's still with Ted! And it never gets resolved. Like the Wheelers could have been a great way to show how to work out issues in a marriage healthily or they could have shown Karen asking for divorce papers! Like this is seen as a moment of empowerment, but Karen actually doing something to change her marriage is far more empowering and that doesn't happen! And with Nancy, the cheating is never addressed because the narrative doesn't consider it cheating, but as you mentioned, if the genders were swapped, people would be having conniptions! (Also like with Nancy, if you swap her gender, a lot more of her actions get more unlikable) Like Karen and Nancy cheating doesn't have an impact on the narrative and it should! Because infidelity is not ok! And yeah, female infidelity is viewed/portrayed differently in media and it's interesting because it's how women broke free in a way, from unhappy marriages in the old days, but it shouldn't be that way these days. Even with the show in the 80s, Karen still had options to get out of her marriage. Nancy could have broken up with Steve anytime she wanted!
Honestly I love getting asks!! feel free to ramble away and I will do my best to answer in due course.
I was talking a while ago, I can't remember to who? About the whole Karen billy thing and how they either should have leaned further into it or leaned as far away from it as possible while still maintaining Billy's issues with middle aged women.
Like if they leaned further, they could have set it up with her sorta...making comments about/to Steve or touching his arm or something a bit too long. Nothing overt but definitely weird vibes. And then had her really into it in S2 when billy comes around, her playing into his flirting more. Similar in S3 but the only reason she doesn't go to meet him is Holly having a fever or something. Make it clear that while Billy is a racist asshole, he's also a kid that is being used by someone older than him that should know better, making him an easier puppet for the mind flayer.
But if they did that they'd have to address it and this show seems to actively avoid doing that.
Or if they leaned away, they could have had Karen looking uncomfortable and/or worried when Billy tried to flirt in S2, and in S3 maybe have her directly say to him that it's inappropriate and not safe for a boy his age to go after older women. Specifically showing concern for him (also this may have helped the writers not only with Karen but also with making Billy sympathetic by overtly showing he's got complex issues that he isn't dealing with, also foreshadowing losing his mom etc.)
Ohhhh okay but if Karen's infidelity sideplot was explored a bit more, with some random dilf, and she also chose not to go through with it, but then actually spoke to Ted about what she wants in the marriage? And how they can try harder to be attentive to each other? The fourth of July could be something of a "second first date" kind of deal. Idk if old mate Ted would be trying but. It could have shown Karen taking a more involved an engaged role in her own relationship. Would have been interesting. Nancy could have seen that too (idk if she'd like it I think she kinda wants their parents to get divorced.)
Also yeah. A woman in the 1800's cheating on her husband with the iceman, or a woman in 1950 lusting for her coworker, is not the same as a woman in 1985 cheating on her boyfriend or husband. Like. Historically marriage was a political or monitary contract, and while I'm sure many were loving, many more were of convenience and involved a lot of cheating on both sides. A woman taking a lover was a way of empowering herself in a system that actively denied her agency, but it was dangerous, and its not like it didn't hurt anyone? like if you're both married for political reasons and have an understanding, have at it. If one of you actually cares for the other, as in modern relationships, that's another thing entirely!!
No fault divorce wasn't a thing in most states until the 70's. So yeah some people were stuck, and some people continue to be stuck in bad relationships. I get that divorce is hard and scary to do, But part of having agency in a relationship is being the one to say "this isn't working for me anymore. Something needs to change. Maybe We should break up" whether or not that relationship is just dating or a marriage.
So while I guess Karen is a little more understandable (she has three kids with red who seems to have checked out, lives in a small concervative town, voted for Reagan so maybe also has religious objections to divorce but tbh they don't seem religious just conservative) in her temptations (if it weren't for the fact he was a teenager) Nancy literally could have ended things with Steve at any time. Like. She could have not gotten back with him in S1! Nancy not breaking up with Steve when she wanted Jonathan is not Steve's fault.
Okay going for the middle bit about the narrative not treating it as cheating: Nancy is such an interesting character because she's goodhearted and strong willed and willing to do just about anything for the truth and has flaws. She bulldozed over people she cares about. That's why she's interesting! She isn't perfect and it's frustrating when the narrative and fans treat her as such. Let women be imperfect and viewed as such! Let Nancy try to work on thinking about how her actions, while she views as just, might actually hurt someone deeply. Like. Steve is an interesting character because he's done bad things and is self-sacrificing and vain and protective and sometimes doesn't think before he speaks. He's a good guy with flaws. That's what makes a character interesting, and at least the show does treat Steve's flaws as flaws that he needs to work on (though it's also comic relief)
But please imagine if everything played out exactly the same, but instead of Nancy sleeping with Jonathan we saw Steve hook up with some girl (he wouldn't, because he's in love with Nancy but imagine). There would not be a day on earth where someone wouldn't bring up "Steve cheated on Nancy". Like if nothing else but which partner cheated changed everyone would actually see it as cheating, and it'd be treated as such by the narrative. It'd be another asshole Steve moment, and there's be very little argument about whether or not the relationship was over, because it wasn't.

I wish S4 explored Nancy and her tendency to isolate. It feels weird to keep yourself apart from the only other people who know about the Upside Down, yet we know that she never hangs out with the others (excluding Jonathan) outside of world ending scenarios. I wish we saw that reflected in her interactions with the group; have her fumble interactions with the kids and have no idea how to approach Robin and Steve. Have her know how to plan but not where she stands with anyone anymore.
I don't think it is weird for Nancy not to hang out with the majority of the people who know about the Upside Down.
If you look at the group, we have 3 people her age. One is her ex she had a very messy breakup with, next we have her ex's bff who seemingly comes as a package deal with Steve and then we have her current boyfriend who also has negative emotions towards her ex. If I were Nancy I would also only hang out with my boyfriend.
And then we have Mike and his friends, which are younger than her and she doesn't share the same interests with them. I doubt she sees her younger brother and the party as mature enough to hang out or discuss problems with. Which is fine btw, I have a younger brother and never in a million years would I want to hang out with his friends. It's no secret that the Wheeler siblings aren't close and I'm fine with that tbh it seems like a realistic depiction of a sibling relationship, or at least I can relate to it so it seems realistic to me personally.
So there are no other people that she could hang out with. After s1, she had both Steve and Jonathan because there was no weird history between them, but after her breakup with Steve, she only had Jonathan. Both Nancy and Steve are barely friends, like they weren't friends before they dated, and after the relationship, both were hurt by the other person, which made staying in contact difficult. And idk if Nancy would love to hang out with Robin if she would bring Steve back into her life, when she showed no interest to be friends with him before s4. Nancy never went out of her way to get to know Robin because idk it seems messy to befriend your ex's bff.
But in general, I don't think Nancy only had Jonathan. She seems to be the kinda girl who can keep school friendships. Like she was fairly popular in the school paper. She had two off-screen friends that were mentioned in s2 who she was close enough to have sleepovers with, without Karen being surprised by it. So, to me, she can make surface-level friendships, but as soon as school is done, she won't contact them anymore.
I also think after her split with Steve and her getting together with Jonathan, her reputation greatly suffered. Like dumping the popular guy to get together with the school creep just looks bad. On top of that, Tommy and Carol would spread the nastiest rumors about her and Jonathan, like it was already teased a bit in s2. I would have liked to see the aftermath of it. What do her friends say? How does she feel about that? Does she develop an even stronger us against them mindset with Jonathan and thus isolate herself further?
But again the reason why she doesn't hang out with the people in the UD group is the messy history she has with her ex and in extension with her ex' bff who are together 24/7.
I agree with you. I would have loved to see Nancy struggling with finding her place within the teen group at least. That would mean to acknowledge the complicated feelings she has towards Steve and Robin and vice versa. But we don't have time and there are bigger things to worry about. But if she were the driving force to befriend Robin, the pay-off would have definitely been better than what we got. It would have ensured that Robin didn't act out of character, and it would give Nancy more depth and room to grow as a person.
I don't think she would fumble her interactions with the kids, like they hung out when she was younger and the kids like having her around in s3. I think if they would question her authority because she sees herself in charge, then I think there would be problems, but the kids mostly listen to everything she has to say. They admire and respect her, so really, I don't think the kids are the problem. And because she sees herself as the older sibling, she doesn't expect them to check up on her between seasons. She doesn't see them as her equal because they are younger and she wants to protect them, but that doesn't mean she would love spending time with them outside world ending scenarios. Only if she truly has to. She has her own life and interests.

Hey! Anon that called Martin gramps here! So like I said in the previous ask, I sorta believe Martin when he talks about his age but it's honestly mostly headcanon mixed with some VERY loose evidence. I definitely think that the film leaves it up to the viewer's interpretation and idk what the book says about it all lol but anyway my main reasons are 1. Marty is very picky about which vampiric mythos is true. Garlic, mirrors, crucifixes, none of those are real! But the need for blood is, (which might be psychological, but it seems to cause him a LOT of physical symptoms) and his age! He's so nonchalant when talking about it too! Why would he believe that he was that age when he didnt believe most things other people said should be true about him? 2. During the family photo book scene, he finds several young children in frilly clothing. Now this is where it gets REAL thin ice theory territory. Martin was born circa 1893. During that time period in the US, it was popular to dress infant boys in frilly attire, (look up Teddy Roosevelt's baby pictures if you want proof lol) I think that one of the kids Martin found was himself! And the others were probably other vampires in his family! Once again, this is mostly headcanon and I'm sure I'm not convincing anyone anytime soon, but that's my two cents lol Sorry for the insanely long rant!!
This is a very interesting hot take. Ngl personally, I always pinned Martin’s sickness as being solely a psychological issue. From a physical aspect.. some sort of deficiency.
The whole vampire aspect seems all too enticing! Far better than shitty genes and mental disorders.. I do think it’s interesting how you say that Martin is extremely picky when it comes to vampire lore. He likes to take what suits him and ignore what might cause any issues.
The fact that he claims to be an eighty four year old vampire seems to be a way to deflect any questions. That’s just how it is… what he is. He makes the rules in this scenario. Who knows. It’s almost like mental gymnastics. What he has to tell himself to justify what he feels compelled to do.
The photo album however…that’s an interesting thought. I personally didn’t think that the baby was Martin himself.. but now I have to wonder!
