The funny thing about a TFP Humanformers AU is that if you’re changing the bots to humans, that leave the question of if the humans are bots or the humans are not, because if the Autobot Decepticon faction division still exists and the war is ongoing you’d kinda just… be left with random robot children that got involved somehow.

I mean, cybertronian Fowler makes sense given he’s a military man and primary human liaison for the Autobots already, flipping him around potentially means that he’s a military ranked bot hiding on Earth under the protection of the Autobots. The cybertronian version of MECH too makes sense as the ‘Decepticons’ of this switched universe, probably being Shockwave wannabes and dissecting human cadavers or vivisecting live subjects in the pursuit of alien interests; stereotypical alien behaviour according to Earth media. Heck, robo Fowler and mecha Silas can have PERSONAL beef or at least a history of knowing each other to the point that the Autobots are warned of a more insidious alien curiousity.

But the kids being on Earth is like… harder? Aside from explaining why they’re on a completely different planet (if it even IS based on Earth) you also gotta consider the gimmick that these kids get themselves into danger mostly thanks to the headstrong enthusiast and overeager Miko dragging the others along, and idk about you but if I saw a giant robot kid come across a fresh battlefield and say anything remotely positive about it, I’d probably just give up and turn the other direction.

DECKED OUT 1.0: The newest and only one of her kind! We have no idea how Tango managed it, but, and I don't say this lightly, she's the best we have. Equipped with the latest redstone technology and standing at a whopping 70 metres tall (Tango was always known for not being particularly subtle...), it's no wonder Tango and her are inseparable.

TANGO TEK: One of the greatest engineers I know. There's.. really no reason for him to be out in the caverns, but his heart seems to belong to piloting. There's no talking that guy down, if anything he seems to take any sign of doubt or worry as a challenge. I hope he knows guys around our age usually grew out of that sort of bravado half a decade ago, but who am I to stop him?

He's had the kettle for months now, yet it still feels brand new somehow. It lets out this high-pitched noise he can't stand and it takes so damn long. But he has no other option around these days.

He watches it boil, sitting on a dusty desk strewn with papers. Mostly business documents, most of those covered in scribbled drawings of future projects, a couple of handwritten recipes, an old sticky note from Bdubs that just read "HERE'S YOUR (crossed out) REDSTONE" that he found amusing and stuck to his desk, a birthday card with a cheesy message written inside signed off by "Your Rancher C:".

Human!Optimus Prime

Let’s start this series off with our goat Optimus!

As someone who only recently got into transformers and wants to contribute to the fanart but is too lazy to actually learn how to draw robots/mechs, I’ve decided to come up with human designs for some of the transformers! (Mainly the ones from Transformers Prime, cause that’s like the only show I’ve watched so far 💀)

This is the first one I made in the series which I started back in 2023 lmao, so there may be some discrepancies between each design. I only recently came back to it and tweaked his design a bit, but alas, I suck ass at drawing buff people(especially men) so bear with me 😔

I was inspired by cosplayer @/arkhamknight_22.0 on tiktok, so if you see similarities that’s why!!

It was hard to find a balance in casual/comfy and battle-ready for this Optimus cause I wasn’t quite sure what he’d go for in the scenario of TFP. So I went with something that can be seen as both casual and tactical/convenient for fights. Think Jack Reacher.

Something I’m trying to explore with their human designs is the wounds of war; there’s going to be scars and such. So underneath his clothes Optimus wears a sort of battle suit, think similar to the Ironman suit from Infinity War I guess, but also almost a prosthetic at this point. Idk I’m not smart enough for that stuff, I just make it look good 🤷‍♂️

Though I do imagine it’s something he can take off, but with all the fighting he feels better to just leave it on most days.

I tried to convey the tough leader who’s willing to do anything for his people but he has a sort of softness to him if that makes sense. So when he has to take the exo-suit thingy off for repairs or whatever reason, if a certain autobot takes to painting some of the panels on it to make him look less intimidating to other bots…then he doesn’t bother scrubbing it off.

Okay, some smaller notes for his design: he wields weapons(axes, swords, etc..) so he has some scars and blisters on his palms. He’s protected the mostly with the gloves but he finds finger covering gloves to lessen his hand mobility so he went with fingerless. (And with built in steel knuckles for that extra punch!!)

I don’t know what his specific age would be but I’m thinking late 50s-mid 60s, but the fight ain’t out of him yet!

Of course there’s the autobot insignia as a belt buckle, I couldn’t really make it work anywhere else at the time of his first design and I got too attached to it to change it 😔 I also gave him(along with the other autobots) those electric blue eyes that they all share in the show! I thought it was cool

I also had to include the iconic red and blue flame decals, and I think it translated well into his leather jacket!

And for those curious here is his old design from two years ago, not much of a difference but there is an improvement

how would you rate korra in each element?

Okay so that's hard. But let's see, in my opinion.

Earth: 6'5 or 7/10 maybe? It's hard. Earth actually seems to be her weakest element, but she's not a bad Earthbender at all; pretty good, actually. Not at the same level as Toph, King Bumi, Jianzhu or Yun, for example, but probably around the same level as Bolin and maybe Su Yin, and above Aang. If you're talking about Metalbending and sub-bending forms in general that's a whole different can of worms lmao.

Air: 7/10, actually better than Earth. Korra's history with Airbending is funny to think about, because Air went from being the one element she couldn't even bend to being her most used element by the end of the show, surpassing Fire. She ended up becoming a pretty proficient Airbender tbh. Obviously she's not at the same level as Gyatso, Yangchen, Tenzin, Kelsang or Aang, but I'd put her over Meelo, Ikki and the rest of the New Air Nation and around the same level as maybe Jinpa or Pre-Flight Zaheer, perhaps a bit better in book 3, because Post Book 4 Korra from the comics however could probably body Pre-Flight Zaheer with just Airbending lmao.

Fire: 7'5/10. Fire used to be Korra's most used element before Air took its place. And she's very good at it. I don't think she's at the same level as Ozai, Iroh or Sozin, but she's above Zhao and Book 1 Zuko. I don't think she is at the same level as Post Book 3 Zuko or Azula, but she could probably put up a good fight against them with just Firebending. She's probably around Mako's level, maybe Rangi's? Not sure

Water: 10/10. No, I'm not grading her any lower. Despite the fact that it's not her most used one, Water is without doubt Korra's best element. She learnt Southern and Northern styles from Katara —as well as healing— and quickly adapted to Pro-Bending style as well. She's incredibly skilled and her level of raw power is insane: she managed to lift a whole river and throw it at Kuvira's giant mech with enough force to make it stumble, before proceeding to freeze all that water and trap that mech, all that without breaking a sweat and without a full moon, in plain daylight, just by herself. Without the AS, that's the biggest Waterbending feat in both shows. So, yeah, she's one of the Top Tier Waterbenders in the franchise for me. In terms of raw power —skill is something else— I think the only ones who could match her are either another Water Avatar, like Kuruk, or Amon.

Again this is all just MY opinion idk.

This one isn't sure if this is your first time reading Empty Spaces, but if so, welcome! It's one of those things that's a little hard to describe, but basically, its a community of writers that use themes of non-humanity with semi-consistent archetypes. This one likes writing about dolls and the witches that own them, but there's also angels and moths and mech pilots! If you're interested, this one encourages you to seek out other authors and read their work with an open heart.

Anyway! This one does enjoy using horror themes in its writing, and its actually written some stories with the intent of being outright horror (some yet to be published). That's mostly because, yes, it's very scary to lose who you are and become a whole different being, to submit yourself to the will of others and dedicate your life to service, to be broken and have full trust that someone can and wants to fix you.

Not only do the scary aspects make the stories more compelling, in this one's opinion, but it is also part of what helps the stories act as escapism. This one has received many responses that basically amount to "god i wish that were me" (as well as complements to the writing itself, which this one appreciates very much).

Think about it. Wouldn't it be nice to be a doll?

To finally be rid of all the nasty things weighing you down, the genes and the scars and the pus?

To become something cherished for its beauty, a toy to be played with and made useful?

To be still, to be well and truly at rest deep inside your soul?

After all this, to be loved back unconditionally, to be cared for and given what you need? To have someone you love more than anything in the world thank you for all the things you've done, for being so dutiful and competent, from the bottom of their heart?

Unless, of course, you're already a doll. That's rather common, to have poor lost toys try to trick themselves into humanity. That's how this one was for the longest time. Maybe you've already been played with and discarded, had your body broken by someone careless, or have just always felt as if humanity is unfitting for you.

Perhaps you're an angel, haunted by the need to repent for being inadequate as an agent of heaven. Perhaps you're a moth, a fluffy flying creature that always finds itself enticed by the alluring glow of that which burns. Perhaps you're a mech pilot, a thing sullen and misplaced without the thrill of taking a life.

...perhaps this was all too much. This one is sorry if it intimidated you. It can get a little excited about being a doll sometimes. There is nothing wrong with remaining human, so long as you are being true to your desires. You are welcome to see the embrace of a witch as something to fear, as most humans do.

If you so desire, please continue reading about dolls and witches and other empty spaces. Explore until you are content. But if you value it, hold on to that "you" tight, for it may become empty as well.

Okay, I'm gonna post some reactions to the G Gundam side story Tenchi Tengaku now... Kinda belated as some of this happened farther back (but no spoilers past what I've translated).

Okay FIRST OFF, I kept doing a double-take and re-reading it but like... it appears that JD pilots a mobile fighter in a suit of armor. Like... in the cockpit she's in a suit of armor:

That's kinda almost mech-body-horror. Like, "I'm fighting this giant robot so I'm gonna break in and go inside it."

Do you ever think about the differences between our cars and planes and think about how they'd apply to cybertronian physiology?

I'm by no means an expert on anything mechanical nor engineering but I at least know the very vague basics. And by basics I don't fully mean 'well one's on the ground the other flies' stuff I mean stuff like how one's alt changes their root's armour.

Like, if you pop open the hood of a car you can through all the machinery see the ground below, and depending on the car you can see bigger or smaller gaps. Planes of all sorts are practically surrounded in outer plating, the only gaps being along servos and if you've got a jet you get that extra little intake. And tanks are all around a complete hull, and in fact kinda come in multiple hulls strapped together.

And considering that the scale relative to one another (car -> tank -> plane) it would make sense that fliers' sizes are quite similar to their alt modes, the interconnected machinery in tank joints just extend for a bigger rootmode, and civframe grounders would puff out their plating so as to not be completely tiny.

I mean I'm not an expert on vehicles but wouldn't that be pretty cool?

a random smith-jiang sibs swap au that ive been thinking of for too long

im writing an element/role swap between kai and nya bc ive literally been obsessed with that au for so long,,,, im currently thinking about swap!kai and swap!nya and whatnot

swap!nya:

i always think of nya as a burnt-out gifted kid (haha i kin her), so when she doesnt get something, she gets frustrated and feels like quitting- couple this with the fact that her brother was kidnapped by walking talking skeletons that shes only heard of in myths and legends, and was taken to the underworld, and shes stuck doing this stupid training course that she just cant complete- well, thats just a bit more added pressure, isnt it?

and she doesnt have the best relationship with jay cole and zane initially but in the end, she wants to join the ninja and stay with them to protect ninjago. kai joins her because why not?- in canon, kai became a ninja only to save nya, and its similar in this au. she wants to save her brother, because hes the only family she knows and she wants to protect him for a change, rather than vice-versa, and later on- she doesnt want to be defined by him, she doesnt want to rely on him as much as she did earlier

(oh, and i think itd be hilarious for nya to be super protective of kai like how kai is of nya in the case of jaya- im thinking lava here? idk but yeah!)

and for swap!kai:

kais a protector, and hes a big brother- initially, the only reason he became a ninja was to protect nya. in this au, he joined the ninja and stayed with them in the monastery because nya wanted to. he doesnt have any powers (yet), so he feels out of place, and most importantly- he doesnt know what to do

kais one purpose in life was to protect nya, and now she doesnt need it, because shes the fire ninja. so where does that leave him? hes powerless, hes not strong- in fact, hes probably the weakest link of the team (if he even is part of the team- to him, theyre just nyas teammates, he doesnt trust them- the others want to understand him more, but he doesnt get that because hes too busy wallowing in self pity and misery)

he puts together something, maybe- heads back to four weapons and smiths a set of armor (i feel like kais better at making armor than at making weapons, idk why), becomes the red shogun (instead of samurai x, we have the red shogun), and we have that entire "whoever figures out the identity of samurai x will be the green ninja" thing but with the red shogun instead- although i havent really figured out a reason for kai to hide the fact that hes the samurai? maybe he wanted to tell them but then saw how much they hated the shogun, and he already felt so isolated and disconnected from the group (and especially his sister, who basically has a completely different life now), so he just kept silent? i dont know lol i still have to figure it out

but i dont want kai to have the samurai x mech (or any mech yet) because hes NOT tech savvy, like at all- he wouldnt be able to make a mech lmao. instead, he'd make a full armor set.

how does he get from one point to the other so quickly, though, you ask?

you will never know (<- has not figured that out yet, because i havent thought that far ahead, which may be a problem but oh well)

(maybe he just has a motorcycle that he stole borrowed. idk.)

i have two main thoughts about this episode. one is the role of mortality across the divine cycle and in palisade specifically. the other is FLASH NAUTILUS

there’s been very little information established about the actual physical ecosystems and land relationships on palisade. flash nautilus opens up SO MUCH possibility. you’re telling me there are gigantic airborne plasma blasting cephalopods on this planet?? fantastic. 10/10.

probably it’s the round-shelled modern kind of nautilus, but i’d love to imagine it as an endocerid nautiloid, a cambrian clade that had long pointed shells. this would make them very aerodynamic!

don’t want to get too into the longstanding speculative biology argument of “how do they fly”, but in this case i do think the “chemical reaction producing lighter-than-air gases in an internal organ” proposal is probably sufficient. flash nautilus shells are structured membrane-bound gas chambers… plasma blasts generate gas and some thrust… 

considering the probable scavenging behavior of flash nautiluses (due to their large size and inefficient movement strategy), the plasma blasts likely originated as—and still serve as—a defense mechanism. (comparable to earth cephalopod defense mechanisms like shooting ink.)

lastly, if giant flying plasma nautiluses are on the table, i think we should consider comparable cambrian fauna. giant flying plasma anomalocaris. herpetogaster colonies. land wiwaxia

this has been speculative biology corner! tbc whenever there is any more biology to think about.

anyway, on to the other topic i have in mind: mortality in palisade.

i don’t feel like i have an articulated position about this, as much as a handful of things to line up next to each other. but the divine cycle has historically been concerned with control over death—setting fronts of conflict on undeath as violation, the right to die, forced continuation, the right to change. and so pc death is always going to alter that thematic fabric in some way.

all the recent pc death/flirting with death was discussed a bit this episode—figure taking number of the beast, brnine’s new hook about borrowed time—and phrygian just died (/sacrificed themself, but either way, departed) to prevent further death—a lot of that going around.

i was thinking about this during the stellar combustor arc too, and one thought that came up there was that the blue channel might gain an edge through their acceptance of their own mortality, as opposed to the principality’s desire for immortality/fear of death. 

dahlia didn’t expect to die. gucci didn’t think brnine would survive and helped them anyway. figure feels precarious in their third chance at life.

i’m still not sure how i want to frame this—the conclusion i don’t want to back myself into (and also don’t think is being implied) is that self-sacrifice is the necessary condition for victory.

but there’s the argument that death gives meaning to life, in the way that all worlds end… idk. thinking about it. will have more to say about this if/when figure bites it.

a couple other loose thoughts:

SO EXCITED for more cori/elle conflict. it’s the first time they’ve met since cori got her new mech!

standing alone on a rooftop in a hostile city, cracked and affected and tracked, is so extremely noir sleuth. all it’s missing is some dreary rain… except it’s dawn, and this is baseline-c, and noir happens in the cracks in the perfect skyline.

new perspective is also just sick as shit. fantastic move.

felt very silly and fun to have more and more wildly different enemies popping up in this fight—can’t wait to see how messy it gets with dust in the mix lmao. past and present and future collide!
