My experience reading william's so far

I'm at chapter 12 btw. Also, if you didn't read liam and harrison pls don't read this. Also, this may be an unpopular opinion about kate

So far, his MC to me is so so. I was not expecting her to fall in love so easily, which frustrated me. I thought it was going to be a slow burn like liam's but apparently that was not the case ('I'm reading chapter 12).

idk if kate is always like that in other routes (I'll definitely try to read all of the boys cuz they are all so batshit crazy and I love that) but she is way more gullible than I expected. Girl, you just don't trust a bunch of villains like that. They are not ordinary guys. Wake up!

I know it's not as if we could control who we'll love, but she deadass fell in love with harrison and william so fast imo. Particularly, I didn't like that.

In harrison's, I think she fell in love because he is so nice and polite. He seems the most normal guy of all of the boys. Just like lots of you mentioned when they released the EN server.

And in william's, it looks like that good girl falling in love with the bad guy, that one your parents always tell you to never get close to. Also, she could have fell in love with william because he was the one who taught her how to express herself and show her true colors.

It gives me the impression that kate sees william's as some sort of savior or deity. No matter what he does, she will trust and follow him. Not a fan of that tbh. And I'm saying that as a william lover.

But, at the same time, I like the fact she is not trying to erase her personality like other MCs in otome/josei just to please others. I'm pretty sure she will do something crazy in the next chapters, so I'm looking forward to it.

Also, I loved that in chapter 11 or 12, she realized she wanted william to kill avatus (is that his name? ahaha). Thank god a MC that is not that prude girl who accidentally is caught up in the middle of a bloodbath and tries to convince the suitor not to kill someone because killing is bad.

And william is so vicious. And that's exactly what I love him lol I highly recommend you read his route if you want to know who he really is. Just playing the events is not enough.

I noticed playing the events and his bday story that he loves freedom. But it never occurred to me that that was not only because he valued free will, but because it is some sort of kink of his.

While reading his route I have this impression that he is also being selfish doing that. And he is aware of that. After all, he is a villain. So, in the end, he also gains from their freedom.

And he not only applauds people when they do what they want but he is also considering letting people use him as they please in this process.

How many other women did he have sex with just to please them? And that reminds me of liam's route. Because liam and willliam to me look the same when it comes to that. I remember when liam implied he fucked a woman just because she wanted to.

I was shocked they had sex so soon on his route ahahha. I liked that kate was honest saying she wanted to have sex with him. I wonder if it's canon she is a virgin. She doesn't seem to be experienced at all.

But, at the same time, I have this bittersweet feeling that she is going too fast to experience everything she didn't try before without thinking about the consequences. I know in the end she will get what she wants, as she is the MC, but this could have ended up on a REALLY bad note for her because william is not in love with her. And if they say later on that he was in love with her since the beginning, I don't know if I'll buy that tbh. Let's see if I'll change my mind.

Did you imagine if the bad end was william rejecting her after fucking kate over and over again for 1 month? This girl would be devastated.

That being said, I love william to death. He is exactly the bad guy I was looking for - manipulative, strong-willed, seductive, has good manners and he is not ashamed of living his best life.

But I can't self-insert in his route. Kate sometimes seems too emotionally dependent on william for my taste. Luckily, in william's events, I think she has a more pleasant personality and is more independent.

I also love the plot so far. Seeing William exterminating butterfly is so fucking entertaining. He has the most wicked ideas of how to order someone to die.

And the revelation he killed his dad was also shocking to me. As I saw in liam and harrison's route that liam's dad was alive and harrison loved his father, and roger's seems to have a nice or normal relationship with his father, I thought we would get the chance to meet william's dad too. But yeah, that is not gonna happen lmao. And I'm glad william killed his father. That guy was hideous.

I wonder if other people in william's family have that curse as well.

Oh, and harrison was so accurate in describing william here. William is not only cruel when he kills people, but when he flirts with them too, even if it's unintentional.

one of the main draws of greek tragedies is that there aren't bright lines of "good" and "evil", it's about human people with flaws that exacerbate the situations they're in and lead to devastating consequences. oedipus's hotheadedness, medea's mild sociopathy, polynices and eteocles's lust for power, achilles and clytemnestra's rage, the tyranny and indifference of the gods themselves. that is what makes the greek tragedy so incredibly compelling even thousands of years after they were written, and why some of the great tragedies from later eras (shakespeare's tragedies, american canon tragedies like death of a salesman or the crucible) are still so inspired by that fundamental "the characters are flawed and those flaws are their downfalls regardless of inherent good or evil within them" type of storytelling.

and if you've been studying and analyzing greek texts and are not in fact just talking out of your ass for twitter points about the dragon incest show and you genuinely think that greek tragedies have clear cut "good guys" and "bad guys" then you are two steps away from being brain dead and i'm shocked you're allowed online access without adult supervision. also idk how to tell you that ancient greece was in fact quite misogynistic soooooooooooo. but i think op is just stupid.

Okay, so now that I’ve had a chance to slightly recover from the rayllum brain rot (i’ll never make a full recovery) here are some of my (mostly) non-rayllum related thoughts on s6:

-I’m actually shocked the age rating is as low as it is…there was a lot of really emotional and shocking stuff (I’m looking at you, Viren’s death scene, Claudia screaming and crying over Viren’s body, Sol Regem eating Pharos, Soren offering to sacrifice his literal heart, the entire first half of episode eight, the startouch elves murdering a literal child).

-I don’t think I’ve ever seen a show where the relationships feel so intimate to the point of making me feel like I’m invading on a personal moment (before remembering that the characters aren’t real lol). Specifically, Terry bathing Claudia (I’m so soft for this) and Callum and Rayla sharing a blanket (and a very sweet and intimate moment) on the frozen ship. Idk man it’s just so fucking good. It all feels so sincere and mature. Also whatever the heck happened between the end of 06x06 and the beginning 06x07…y’all know what I’m talking about.

-I haven’t seen enough people talking about the music because oh my god, it’s phenomenal!! The standouts for me are the end of 06x06 (aka rayllum kiss scene) and when Viren is casting the “hearts of cinder” spell in 06x08. Score release when????

-On the topic of 06x08, it’s objectively the best episode of the season, maybe even the entire series (although on a personal level, 06x06 is my favorite for *reasons*).

-The Janaya vows were spectacular. 10/10 no notes.

-I REALLY loved Ezran and Soren this season. Ezran was so grown up and showed tremendous leadership and strength when negotiating with Karim, who was incredibly disrespectful and arrogant towards him (also, that dude was plastered lmao). Soren taking control and making the choice to evacuate the castle (which is 100% what Ezran would have done), and then begging Viren to sacrifice him to cast the “hearts of cinder” spell and save lives?? HELLO?? That was so emotional and made me love Soren that much more (which I didn’t even think was possible).

-All of the voice acting was A++. Racquel’s sobbing and screaming gives me CHILLS. Jason’s acting during Viren’s sacrifice scene? Outstanding. Sasha lowering her voice as Ezran gets older? So talented. They are all so good holy crap. They really have the A Team.

-The scene of Rayla with her mom and dad is devastating, but also bittersweet. I’m glad Rayla has a sense of closure here.

-Ruthari reunion when??

-Sorvus and Sorpeli are REAL and I’m not mad about it.

the [Beyond Good and Evil] is so devastating like its crazy. the revelation from YJH that he knows about WOS rattles KDJ so badly it makes me sad. he states outright that he wanted to avoid telling them for as long as possible, because to an extent, gauging the reactions to YJH telling them that hes a regresser in WOS, he understands the reactions he's likely to be facing as a result - anger and sadness over the monopolization of information, and the meaning he ascribes them despite the kind of disconnect that being a regressor/reader may have brought.

at the same time, once YJH DOES ask about WOS, kdj knows the game is over. frankly, he didn't have to tell them at that point. HSY herself even expresses doubt about the idea. and, honestly, considering how long he's spent running and hiding from this, it's a little of a shock that he follows through at all. so… why?

well, primarily it's because he's just off the back of the 1863rd round. it's been, what, maybe a few weeks at most? he's already been killing himself in his head about the 1863rd round and YJH's state there and his continued regression, even if he's been doing his best to cover it up. that, combined with YSA and his mother's injuries, defeating Olympus… well its a lot! and a lot of that has left him in an emotionally fraught state. the revelation of WOS + YJH leaving the company is just the final nail in the coffin.

the 1863rd round introduced him to a story he didn't know, a HSY who was so alike to him it made him slightly uncomfortable, and a desire. a desire to believe in the story he had created and, more than that, the humans within that story. if that makes sense.

he saw how 1863!HSY connected with her companions and made that perfect story, while simultaneously keeping her broader plan from them and leading them towards death. he doesn't want to be like that. he wants to be real companions with them! even if it breaks his heart! he's not looking for forgiveness!

this is all over the place idk. but anyways when he tells them, he is fighting his base instincts of hiding and running and distancing himself for the sake of truly connecting. but like. he's bad at it. he's trying! so hard! but he's bad at it.

he talks about refusing to use Omniscient Reader's Viewpoint when he tells everybody because "I wanted to use my own strength without relying on any skills. I wanted to believe that whatever they thought and felt inside, the actions they chose was really their decision." (there is an option wherein he's refusing to use his skill less because he wants to trust in them, and more because he actually cannot handle their potentially negative opinion on this, but i don't actually think hes lying here.)

BUT!!!!!!! even though hes not using the skill and trying to meet them where they're at, whatever that may be, when he meets Lee Jihye's eyes, he's immediately thinking about her reactions from WOS! he's not reading their mind, but he is remembering their story, and rather than trusting their actions now, in his round, he's taken aback when her actions are different from those from the novel. he's not using his skills, but he may as well be. he's trying!!!!! so hard!!!!! but that novel is still so deeply ingrained in him and his behaviors that he can't shake it and barely even registers the need to shake it even when attempting to mitigate other harmful behaviors!!!!!

and then later in the chapter, he remembers going to visit his mom in prison and only talking about WOS. and then he visits her in the hospital and!!!!! guess what!!!!!! he connects with her by talking about WOS!!!!! he's crazy!!!!! he tries to connect with YJH and then when YJH leaves it fucking breaks him!!!!!! can anyone hear me!!!!!! am i making any sense bc i dont think i am!!!!!!

crying sobbing kicking over chairs screaming CELLBIT IS AN EVIL EVIL MAN WHY WOULD HE DO THAT. FOR WHAT REASON. POR CUAL RAZÓN. LO ODIO. <-said with the utmost adoration and respect of a writer but the fury of a fan who just had to endure all of that my hearttttt 0(-(

god fuck i have thoughts and feelings regarding episode 10 of osnf. obviously. i don't even know how to start.

okay. first of all the way that he was able to orchestrate the like 57839 different POVs of the nightmare happening at the same time was actually pretty smooth, all things considered. being able to forcibly mute/deafen the others is a good thing to be able to do yesyes.

second, im losing my mind over how he hides the fact that "it's all a dream" WITHIN the "it's all a dream" trope by having the creatures be manifestations of dreams/guilt in "reality" themselves. idk if i'm making any sense, but like, you get it, right? like, it's the fact that we thought we had already discovered the dream-based deceit in the segment because of what the "Hotelier" told Joui at the start of it, but it turns out that THAT was a red-herring of sorts for the TRUE dream-based deceit, that EVERYTHING was a dream, not just the creatures. god there are fucking layers to this im foaming at the mouth that's soooo good.

i guess that's what makes the "it's all a dream"-style trope present here feel less cliche. because, you know, it is a trope, and it's not really a trope that i'm fond of, but because there's actually more going on, it feels less cheap. what certainly helps is that the fact that it's roleplay, so the reactions from the characters are so much more raw, and there are some irl stakes (character dead = out of the series = can't play anymore). that definitely keeps you on the edge of your seat.

edit: something i forgot to mention—what i dislike abt the “it’s all a dream” trope the most is that it is very easily something that can be so, so cheap. all angst, no stakes or consequences, no lasting impact on the plot on the characters. however, not only is there a “physical” impact via several characters losing SHITLOADS of sanity (something not easily recovered) but we get to see a little more into the psyche of the characters. which i suppose is often the point of the “it’s all a dream” segments, but this dream—one with a lot of references to past major character death and itself contains major character death—rings especially true for the themes of the series: the world they live in is dangerous, and the work they do is lethal. people have and will die. and they do and will feel guilty, reguardless if they are at fault. it’s not a horrifying death dream just for the sake of being a death dream, it feels grounded in their reality, and i love that.

third, man he did not hold back. when Arthur was being beaten to a pulp by not!Brúlio, i was actually in shock, i was screaming. plus, i think the fact that Cellbit rolled a 001 when not!Brúlio attacked actually helped to hide the fact that this was a dream. it made it look like it was bad luck rather than the segment was designed to kill the characters (well, at least until he revealed that the damage was 1d4+1d6, but i'll get to that later).

gosh the narration of how not!Brúlio killed Arthur. holy shit. i don't. i don't even have words, that is DEVASTATING. that is probably one of the worst ways for a person to go. i know it's a dream but if i were Arthur i would be emotionally fucked up beyond belief. beaten to a bloody pulp by the father who once loved you so much, screaming at you for abandoning him and that it's your fault he died a horrible death. and then he drops your body on the ground like you're nothing but a pile of useless meat. god. damn.

and then Liz. ohhhh Liz. i just. i was devastated. her whole struggle with Alex, the man she treated so horribly. yes it's true the real Alex never would have said these things to you, but how do you know he wasn't thinking it? that he didn't want to? that what not!Alex says doesn't hold some truth? christttt. and of course the way she dies: in complete agony. and did she forgive herself? because, unlike with not!Brúlio, the creature turned into that weird wispy black thing just as she died, and i would assume that means she forgave herself (if those rules even apply considering this was all a result of the parasite's deceit (holy hell my brain is melting i am the man with the hand on the conspiracy board)).

fourth: the 1d4+1d6 thing! when he read that out, i was stunned. that is a LOT of damage considering all of the characters have ~10 HP. with an extreme roll, that's basically an insta-kill, or it's easily a two-hit-kill. i thought Arthur was unlucky, but when Liz also went down, i was---well, devastated, at first, because that's Liz, she's my absolute favorite and i love her, but i started going through all five stages of grief at once, and at some point i arrived at "no that can't be right" because Cellbit is a good writer. and to deliberately construct a scenario where it would be VERY hard for a character to survive while still in the middle of the story? yeah. and yknow the fact that there's still 6 other episodes fhdsjk. (then again the series continues regardless if a character dies and i haven't looked at other episodes' thumbnails or anything like that for this exact reason. so. i was going in as blind as i could reasonably be.)

in any case, realizing and connecting all of this and then hearing the "Hotelier" start yelling at Joui right after Liz died explicitly blaming him for it sealed it for me: this is a trick of some sort. this is a dream sequence of some sort. these aren't real deaths. (a smaller part of me was still scared that they were real because i know that Cellbit does not shy away from killing off his players' characters, if op and opq are anything to go by. but i digress.)

and then the characters turned to black goo. and i just about threw my computer. rip Luba who got absolutely targeted by the GM lmfao.

anyway uhhh that's about it regarding the dream sequence! loving luzidius!joui and how he just keeps switching back and forth. ((and it further supports my little side-theory that the mysterious blond woman last seen with Team Kelvin was a luzidious we win these.)) i was surprised to see Liz thinking it was so cool when she's been so suspicious of everything in Santo Berco since she got here, but i think she could definitely be using it as a distraction from what she just went through, and honestly she's just happy to see Joui is okay. (the way she gave on up words and just hugged him, the way she held his face in her hands, the way she dragged him down the hall to show Thiago and Thiago was just telling her to fuck off (/aff) because he was getting dressed, my heartttt i love these three, mentor-mentee dynamics my fucking beloved)

also new outfits! sweet! istg the new outfits are so Cellbit's way of apologizing for putting his friends through that. "hey sorry i killed your character in the most emotionally devastating way possible it will happen again wOAH LOOK AT THESE NEW CLOTHES AREN'T THEY SO COOL YOU SHOULD TRY THEM ON!!!"

i've been having mixed feelings about the sudden setting/genre change since the group arrived in Santo Berco. i really, really loved the urban horror-fantasy vibe that they had going on in op and the first 8 eps of osnf, but evidently, this is good as well. the genre is most definitely still horror yippee. i definitely miss the urban-modern setting, but i think i can get adjusted to this. (i'm just,,, not the biggest fan of the auto-heal crystals im sorry i had to say it they feel too op i know their use is limited to visiting the doctor but knowing they exist lowers the in-world stakes for me im sorry---)

i usually don't talk about personal stuff, but, since i'm still waiting for the public university that i get my free therapy from to clarify whether the program continues or not, this is a rare venting post ig...

well, earlier today i attended the funeral of one of my paternal aunts.

she died yesterday, and we got the news late at night.

as it's common for many working class Brazilian families, there are, like, 4 houses in the same terrain that belonged to my late grandpa, so, we all sort of lived together, and it was a huge shock for all of us.

other relatives, who live in the same town as us, also appeared to show support.

i overheard a cousin of mine (who is younger than me and recently lost her own mom to breast cancer, which just shows how strong she is to come back to the place she grew up to support the remaining aunts, one of which is her grandma) saying this aunt died of pulmonary embolism, after she was diagnosed with pneumonia last week.

my dad also said something earlier this week about lung damage, if i remember correctly.

me and my big sis, we suspect that this aunt either got covid or was suffering from the consequences of long covid, since she was looking weaker and more fragile in the past 2,3 years or so.

but, since the health unit she was admitted has a pretty basic infrastructure, as it's common for small towns here, we might never know for sure, bc we don't even know if it occurred to the doctors to get her tested...

i wasn't particularly atached to her, but it's still very painful, bc, with the terrain thing i said above, i still grew up with her and she was a psrt of my childhood...

but, most of all, it's particularly painful bc of the son she left.

he has down syndrome, but, as it's also common for the lives of working class ppl here in Brazil and i assume South America in general, he never had access to the type of multidisciplinary healthcare support that he needed and is a person with high support needs, which means he depended on his mother for almost everything.

in the days she was still at the health unit -- which can't be called a hospital, bc it's this type of unit we call here "unidade de pronto atendimento" and serves to provide medium complexity healthcare -- he frequently asked to my other aunts and relatives when his mom would come back.

he is not completely abandoned, since my other aunts, who helped said aunt to take care of him, are still alive and will take care of him, which is a relief ofc...

but they are also elderly women, and way older than his late mother.

and, most of all, it's been devastating way beyond words to hear the poor guy crying and having panick attacks as these aunts and my other relatives tried explaining to explain to him that his mom won't come back to go to church with him ever...

bc, really, there are no words to describe how terrible it all is...

it's also a pretty average working class Brazilian experience, as you guys can see by the stuff i mentioned above...

and, i don't even know what's the takeaway from this story i'm telling...

i guess it's just to give an insight of what life here in this country can be, you know, besides all the venting and stuff...

(and, YES, i know that other countries on the Global South still got it worse.

in fact, even here in Latin America.

it's just that it's still fucking terrible that we have to endure this type of stuff every day bc of economic inequality and other social issues)

19. Favorite cards

Constraining myself to just wxs bc of the image limit. And also I’m biased so most of them would have been wxs anyways.

Absolute favorite card. Emunene real. If I have to spark for this and destroy my savings for wxs world link I will be so mad but I will do it.

Emu cards are always so good… I don’t think I can pull for Sanrio emu though despite it being one of my favorites (devastating) (saving for wxs world link). A shout out to her untrained Phoenix card & Torpe card too… they’re so cute.

Rui also has rlly good cards I think his cyber punk card is probably in my top 10 (also can’t pull for it) and his white day card… ough the lighting/pose/composition (still mad I couldn’t pull for that)

These untraineds are favorites just because they make me giggle. Tsukasa in a crisis is Always Hysterical (also why I like his untrained Phoenix/3rd year/doll festival* cards) but I think I’ve said [insert untrained pandemonium card] while talking abt tsukasa 100 times (which I got from you) because it’s never not funny. The gokart card is just really cute I love rui’s dumb expression and the fact that he’s too goddamn tall for this ride/the pure joy on emu’s face as she turns her car directly into rui presumably in an attempt to run him off the road (I support it). But the best part of it is 100% nene being a girl failure in the back like how did you fuck up so badly. Do not let her behind the wheel of a car ever. The expression of gamer rage on her face… her mario kart skills did not transfer over… she’s pissed. 10/10.

*Doll festival card gets an extra shout out. Why is rui there. He’s not in the side stories at all. The implication that he either 1) saw tsukasa acting like the world was ending and just went “not my problem” and walked away or 2) went to go eat lunch with him and walked in on him with his head in his hands having a capital c Crisis & had to deal with that is so funny.

Reboot question:

Do you think Dante KNEW that Vergil was gonna die from that final stab in the chest at the end of their fight? Cause like. He kinda just let him go and seemed to think that he'd be fine. Like, Dante still talks to Vergil like he knows Vergil is gonna be a threat after this, so presumably Dante thought Vergil would just walk that stab to the heart off. And probably with good reason! We see Dante poking at his own heart in a bathroom once during a flashback, and presumably this is the first time Dante's ever gotten in this big of a fight before (I mean, Dante basically fought Mundus and Vergil back-to-back), so maybe he just figured Vergil would be fine?

Idk. I feel like if Vergil comes back as the new King of Hell and tells Dante Dante fucking KILLED HIM with that last stab, Dante would just be devastated and shocked, because he honestly thought Vergil would be okay after that. That Vergil would just portal back to the safe house we see them using after the Order fell, and that Vergil would have medical supplies there or something. (Unless Dante and Kat went there afterwards and found the place wrecked or unused.)

First, a bit on my reading of Downfall (skip the first two paragraphs if that's not interesting asdfghj): I've always preferred the idea that what we see happening in Downfall is less like, literal for the most part and more something Vergil is imagining in his head after passing out on Eva's grave. I realize Word of God canon from Ninja Theory asserts that it like, is supposed to be taken literally but the textual canon of the game itself doesn't really lend itself one way or the other. All we have is Vergil near death passing out and then whatever Eva is (since we don't really know what Eva is) telling him that he did die at some point, though nothing to substantiate that claim beyond her word on the subject. (I tend to treat word of god canon as secondary to textual canon)

But in my reading of the game, I've always just sort of assumed Dante didn't kill Vergil and rather just almost did, something still very scary and unnerving for Dante to grapple with (also I imagine made more complicated by the fact him and Kat after the game likely don't know if Vergil is alive or dead after he left, and that speculation is enough to cause a lot of problems for both of them mentally which is something that comes up a lot in a very 'fab wrote this fan fic for fab' fic I posted, Crossroads of Catharsis and Contemplation asdfghjk)

HOWEVER, like I said, I know Ninja Theory has asserted with Word of God canon that we're supposed to take Downfall literally. So if we take Downfall literally like, Vergil does die after the fight with Dante because we are told by whatever Eva is that he died and this is sort of his own little personal afterlife hell that he needs to crawl out of.

And I am pretty sure Dante had no idea he killed him. The way both Dante and Kat (who has just begged for Vergil's life) implies to me that both thought he'd just heal like the twins do and he'd be fine. The fact Kat in particular does not seem too particularly concerned that Vergil is in dire straights. So I think at the point they're both at with the end of the game, both probably think Vergil will be ok.

I think when things begin to turn is when Vergil just...doesn't communicate with either of them. And that's when they both probably start wondering if he is actually alive or not.

Dante at the end of the game to always read to me as not entirely in control of his devil trigger, thus why it got so bad and Kat had to come over and snap him out of it. Which I definitely think would add to Dantes distress if he were to find out he actually did kill Vergil, even if Vergil got better

this is a rant post, me just unloading my anger so that my poor friends and family don’t have to hear it, this is about Secret Invasion but really Marvel as a whole. Again, this is a grumpy post, and if you’ve come to the tag cuz you’re excited to talk about Secret Invasion, all good, but probably don’t read this post cuz I know the horrible feeling when someone kills my vibe. 

also major spoilers ahead for Secret Invasion episode 1.

What the actual fuck.

I was not super excited for secret invasion because the last few Marvel works have been lacking, the last one I enjoyed was Wakanda Forever. It however did not quite hit the spot that Marvel movies usually do.

However, I still tuned in today- watched the episode, not gonna lie, it was slow going. Many people said this was different, more intriguing. To me, it was the same old same old. Literally how the fuck do you mess up an invasion lead by shapeshifters? How the hell do you make that boring? 

It was great to see Fury, Maria and Talos again, but it’s frustrating because we really haven’t had any answers to what he’s (Fury) been REALLY up to all this time. And all this talk about abandoning earth, and “you’re not the same since the blip” because heaven forbid they let Fury keep his swag since he’s seemingly the main character. They really said to make this threat seem legitimate we need Fury to seem in over his head. When has he ever not been??? Just because someone is the main character doesn’t mean we need all their cards on the table as the audience. 

Aside from all those issues, and just being “generic rebel group are evil”, once again. Seems a bit fishy to me- Captain Marvel was so interesting by making them *not* the bad guys, but yet. Here we are.

And then, they fucking killed Maria Hill. 

One, severely under-developed character, who’s beloved, but never had enough screen time since day one. Marketed her as a selling point. and then killed her. Seems familiar to me, a bit too familiar. 

It gives me the same feeling of when they killed Nat for no fucking reason all over again. Idk maybe this time, Maria “isn’t actually dead” and I’m gonna look like a fool but it doesn’t seem like it. I’m tired of them pulling this. It’s a death purely for shock purposes and that is shitty-ass writing. And once again! Killing women to motivate men! Which is the third time they’ve done this, if not more, I’m only counting from Infinity War. 

It’s cheap. All their new content is cheap. And I don’t want to disregard the work that the writers, vfx crew, the actors and set crew and directors are doing- they’re working with what they got. But it’s clear that Marvel is trying to churn out so much so fast that they aren’t allowing time for the creative process, nor are they ever allowing for creativity at all. Once again, Maria Hill is another name in a long list of wasted opportunities by Marvel. 

I used to enjoy these movies so much and I think it’s truly devastating to me, realizing what it’s become and the fact I probably won’t ever experience those feelings again.

I am looking forward to the Marvels film, Daredevil Born Again and a little bit about a few others, but honestly, my hopes aren’t too high.

Like my issue isn't that they killed Eddie. It's that they killed him badly. Like the second Eddie cut the rope we knew he was going to die. It would have been more shocking if he had survived. There isn't any surprise from an outside standpoint because we know that they are going to kill a character and Eddie just made a decision that leads to his survival chances plummeting. Like a death the show did well was Bob Newby. Because they killed him at the last possible second. And they put plenty of jump scares (Not really, but not sure of the word and I'm tired and being lazy) that Bob survived. Like it is devastating because he was so close. And the show was never like we're killing characters for that season. Like doing that almost takes people out of the show because you're looking at it with, I know that they are going to kill characters, is this one going to die? Like it takes you out of the show in my opinion.

The acting carries the show. I'm purely criticizing everything from a writing and narrative perspective but the acting is phenomenal. If I wasn't a very picky why isn't this making sense person, then I would probably never really criticized aspects of the show. But yeah, the acting is amazing and I love it.

I think the show disbenefits from having so many storylines and at least one needed to be cut at least a little bit. Because there is so much they want to do and not enough time and so they had to sacrifice in Hawkins but Hawkins needed that extra time so it doesn't fall apart and ahhhhhhhhh.

YES SAME!!! they killed eddie so badly and also while the parallel was nice whenever they cut to eddie’s death in between max’s i wanted to scream cuz i just wanted to get back to the max moments to see how that would end. like i do appreciate this paralleling scene especially cuz gaten does an amazing job! but also i just wanted to get to max! ngl i feel like even before that moment we knew he was going to die cuz of the duffers track record but the moment he cut the rope we knew his death fate was sealed. i think bob’s death was done so amazingly! like i was devasted that he does but at the same time i felt the emotional death way more than any of the other deaths. with bob we got to know him for the whole season being with the byers family and spending time with them. we can see the growth he did and the happiness that he brought the byers while also establishing bob as his own character! which is sooo great and like you said we can feel how he could have gotten out so it’s even more devastating. idk i just think that because the audience actually got to know him they were more upset that he died because he was a good character instead of just being upset at the death/injustice of it all (for example the whole barb thing where most people didn’t know her character because she died in the second ep but they wanted justice because she died). with bob’s death it felt more emotional because we got to know him.

ohhh the acting is absolutely phenomenal! like god theyre soooo fucking good! i’m so glad that the actors/actresses seem to be getting more jobs and etc within the career because they are incredible and amazing! yes the writers have soooo many plot lines that it just ends up bringing the writing down which i think showed more this season than the rest as they are in different states or in different countries. like in hawkins the different plot lines were able to connect more as they’re in a small area so it as more places to cross over and for them to interact even if they are doing other things. but with the different states none of them can interact besides the people who are in the same area as them so none of the characters cross over! they’ve been able to do the many plot lines justice in some aspects (maybe they don’t finish those plot lines sometimes but it’s easier to have many plot lines) i think in the past the many plot lines did also bring them down but because they were close together - it made it easier with run time and etc

like . idk. every time i think about tlou2 i’m just like “what did i take away from this where did the characters progress” and i just don’t have an answer. it’s still so egregious with ellie’s character in particular because her dilemma at the end of part 1 never left me with the idea that she was vengeful or vicious or inherently flawed in the ways she attempts to seek justice. the most devastating thing about her is that she is self sacrificial and self destructive and you want to see her character develop from this point because of how much you’ve seen her struggle throughout the entire game. yes, if the story is isolated to part 2 and ellie’s downward spiral, the lesson about seeking closure and avoiding self destruction is somewhat cohesive, but in the context of part 1 it’s so difficult to feel compelled by the story.

ellie has experienced nothing but loss over and over to the point where at 14 years old she believes that her death is something she’s had coming and that she doesn’t deserve to be alive because it’s a chance the people she loved didn’t get. although the ending is morally questionable it represents a small modicum of hope in that ellie is given the chance to live a better life. and then in part 2 all of her fears are realized. the person she’d loved most, the only person in the first game not to die on her or leave her, is killed. she finally snaps and turns her self destructive grief outward in some attempt to seek closure because she’s watched so many loved ones die and been completely unable to do anything about it. and this costs her everything and leaves her living her worst fear, alone and isolated and listless. the story preaches about how violence won’t bring you closure while simultaneously showing that the violence and revenge abby enacted did indeed bring her closure and that shes had the satisfaction and stability to grow as a person and seek out a new life even after doing the same thing the narrative condemns ellie for doing. the story posits itself as being ellie’s story as well as abby’s, but ellie’s narrative goes absolutely nowhere in terms of her character and leaves her in the same place- possibly even a worse place, considering the growth she’d shown at the beginning of the game- that she was at to start with. even abby’s narrative is damaged by the need to mesh it with ellie’s, because she doesn’t get the same explorations of moral complexity or condemnations of her actions in the story. it starts off with the knowledge that audiences are going to hate her so the majority of her story is spent trying to humanize her and make her more sympathetic to the point that by the time most people are willing to appreciate and engage with her as a character her section is nearly over. the morals it attempts to teach are incredibly simple and poorly executed but because the game is so reliant on shock value and excessive angst it allows itself to appear deeper than it actually is. also the pacing is fucking awful partially because of the issues i stated with abby’s character development and partially because the second “half” of the game is blown through at an absurdly fast pace. by the end it just feels so repetitive and drawn-out. i’m gonna go eat glass

my thoughts on vol. 2

the obvious cons —

no more flashback scenes of henry?????? srsly??????????? the only scrapings of him i got were kinda hearing jamie’s voice through the distorted speech of vecna.

could literally not give less of a shit about the love triangle with nancy, steve, and jonathan. if anything, i want nancy and robin to be together.

why hasn’t steve been given more depth??? like he is literally just a babysitter, nancy’s simp, and a dude who bit a bat. there’s literally nothing else to this boy (which makes it a million times harder for me to write him) and he deserved SO. MUCH. MORE.

i don’t want to be mean but i literally don’t really care about the russia pack?? it’s good writing so idk what’s wrong with me, but i found myself just skipping through it. enzo is fine af tho, so is joyce (per usual obvi)

why is will’s arc dependent on mike and el, like i could not give an extra fuck about their relationship. i wish he had more depth that revolved more about him and his sexuality rather than just being mike an el’s therapist and being some sort of vessel for the upside down. give my sweet boy what he deserves!!! and give him a proper boyfriend!!!!!

^^ this goes for robin too. she does have personality, which most shows representing sexuality lack in, but then again, we barely see any gay??? literally we only see vickie like three times, one being when she is with her boyfriend????? of course the hetero relationships like mike/el and steve/nancy show a gazillion scenes with their tongues down each others throats, but the only recognition we get for our community is will balling his eyes out and some cutesy pb&j making sesh?? like wtf???? why are the only gay characters getting absolutely ZERO recognition?? do the duffers think that oppression ends with just being a nerd or something????????

i wish el was given more personality. literally her brain is just mike and trauma. give that girl some hobbies!! some talent!!! she deserves even the smallest sliver of happiness so so much

and now to address the elephant in the room: WHY DID EDDIE HAVE TO FUCKING DIE????? like that was cheap as fuck duffer brothers!!!! you’ve done this EVERY season. you make the sweetest, kind-hearted character and then kill them off for shock value. it’s so lazy and irritating!!!!! and the fact that he will get no closure and he will forever be known as the black sheep who started a cult and killed these random ass kids fucking hurts. and how no one but dustin was grieving for eddie??? like hello???? everyone was literally fine but i was balling my eyes out and the dude isn’t even real. moral of the story: if they introduce a sweet character in s5, don’t get ur hopes up. i hope by some miracle he returns in next season, i'm crossing my fingers.

the pros!! —

lucas’s arc was so good!!! i felt like he was really left out in s3, but i feel as if we get to see more of who he is and how he feels. how he joined the basketball team cuz he didn’t want to be bullied, how he treats max, and how fucking devastated he was after max almost died stabbed me in the heart. i do feel as though more could’ve been done for his character that didn’t relate to the basketball team and max, but i liked seeing this new side of lucas!! in conclusion: i love this boy to the moon and back. also caleb's acting???? phenomenal! give this boy every oscar known to mankind !!

my sweet, sweet maxine. there are no words to describe the sheer adoration i have for this girl. the whole season i found myself honestly annoyed with how she was reacting to billy’s death. he was her brother, and despite everything, she did love him, but that doesn’t take away from the fact that he was a racist, abusive piece of shit. and i can already hear everybody rant about how “it’s not his fault!” “his dad is mean!” “but he’s too pretty to be abusive!” like stfu???? he was an awful human being, and i appreciate how they talked about how max knew these things and how she secretly wished he would get what he deserved. no matter what, nobody deserves death, but i love how they managed to come full circle with her grieving process and how she wouldn’t blindly defend all of his actions simply because he was her brother and now he’s dead. he didn’t deserve to die, but him dying doesn’t mean any of the things he did are excusable. also, max and lucas are the only str8 couple i found myself actually shipping and rooting for (el/max still thrives in my heart tho). and also, her music taste >>>> bomb!!

jason got FUCKED UP LMAOOO. i was literally sobbing my eyes out over eddie and then this man just gets split into two, like that shit caught me SO OFF GUARD. but i think his character was honestly really fascinating. it’s so easy to see all he’s caused and just hate his guts for it, but if you really pay attention, you can see how detailed his character truly is. he wasn’t just some mass villain, he’s a normal high school basketball player who is mourning for the girl he loved. and because of that, i feel pity for him. though he majorly fucked up our plans and what he did wasn’t ok in any shape or form, he was just doing what he thought was right: ridding hawkins of evil and avenging for his dead girlfriend. basically i will defend this man to the end idc idc
