My Hippopotamus rant is here. I love Hippo and I think this was one of the best examples of how putting something off for later can be a very good idea sometimes. So I didn't hear most of it until this summer, and hearing the whole album then was one of the biggest highlights of that time. Thank you modern era Sparks for always bringing us the awesomest music ever.

I remember you! Thank you for the compliments once again, I have started posting new things a bit more regularly since your last message. Out of what's available on bandcamp, at least. I'm currently a bit behind on things for various reasons but here's the rest of this year's collection. A bit meagre at the moment but w/e.

this is prob my fav song on the album. beyonce's life story told through the repetition of "16 carriages" is fucking genius. it paints such a vivid story almost like a folktale. it emphasizes her determination for her dreams with every reiteration as her life changes and the repercussions of it (giving up a normal life girlhood.)

idk smth about pocs talking about legacy always makes me emo (like rina sawayama's dynasty.) the stakes are sm higher with us. our parents had to give up so much of their lives or culture for their children. so carrying a part of your history is so important to prove that culture doesn't have to be at the complete sacrifice of better opportunities for living.

the slow progression and dramatization of the drums is empowering and gives this anthem a whole character arc. they also resemble to me the whipping sound of the saddle on horses to make them go faster.

this song feels like a young girl getting on a horse for the first time because it's fun. she is excited for the new experience and gallops through the open, dirt road but the more she rides the older she becomes--going thru the storms and turbulence of life. until one day she's trailblazing through.
