Now, I still have yet to truly figure out what is going on, but I will say Poppy is definitely very much the youngest in this AU, and unlike in most other places, she is not the mother figure, she is loved ever so gently by the rest (shown by the way Frank loathes your name for having destroyed her piano. The way it tears are the heart strings of onlookers to see her precious instrument shatter, the shards scattered wildly upon the floor of the stage.

Ok so i actually have a shit ton of oc but the main ones are Maria and Aelius as they are the main characters of a story I’m making. My friend’s oc Romeo is also important to the story

I have two oc stories, one doesn’t really have a name but basically takes place over tens of years in medieval Europe (basic i know) but it follows the rivalry between a knight named Courage and an “oracle” named Destiny. They’re both immortal btw and they’re basically humanized concepts of courage and destiny. I do have a drawing of Destiny posted. It should be in my “oc: destiny” tag.

The other story is actually a collection of stories. The series is called god & goddesses bc i don’t have a permanent name for it.

So far there’s 4 stories which are all interconnected and two are sorta interconnected but the most developed, important, and oldest one (4 years old!!) is the last story.

I’ll try to summarize it in a way that is still understandable but it’s basically colonization and genocide through the eyes of a god.

Ok some background information bc you’re gonna need it:

There are several religions existing in the world. These religions are divided into major (large) religions and minor (small, folk) religions. Every god from every religion (granted that they have enough believers) exist

Gods from the major religions (major gods) created something called the Major Pantheon which is consisted of every major god

The major gods created a sort of government to basically make sure major conflicts between religions don’t break out

The people in the government are called Higher Gods

There are laws in the major pantheon that apply to all gods

There is a social hierarchy but its not as important to this story

I’m not gonna list all the laws out but the important ones are (the bully points after this isn’t indented bc idk how to indent on mobile):

Gods are not allowed to create cults, encourage the creation of cults, or engage with cult members

Gods are only allowed minor interactions with humans (there’s more to this law but the rest isn’t that important to the story)

Maria is a major goddess of spring, she has a younger sister, Anastasia, and two older sisters, Tatiana and Olya (if you recognize these names from somewhere, no you don’t). Theta recall based off of seasons, Tatiana is especially important because she is also a higher god. She is also mixed white and indigenous (located around Eastern Europe and north Asia)

Aelius is a sun god from another religion (which i will call the Old Religion). While he is powerful and trusted, he is not a higher god. He is white (would be Mediterranean irl)

Romeo is in love with Aelius and a human, he is a poc

It’s told as a myth from a young woman, a foreigner, to a boy who’s native to the village the woman has immigrated to.

The myth tells the tale of Maria who is forced to leave her home and disguise herself as a human after Aelius destabilizes the major pantheon, murders and influences gods to murder each other, including Maria’s family. After the village she was hiding in is taken over by Aelius’s soldiers, Maria is forced to relocate to the Empire which is under Aelius’s control. There she finds an underground revolution and joins in. When the Revolution breaks out, it seems to have a chance of actually succeeding until the military is called in and crushes the Revolution in a massacre. Maria is distraught but then creates a plan to infiltrate the religious system and get close enough to kill Aelius. She is taken in as a seamstress’s apprentice. She eventually meets a man named Romeo who wanders in, wanting to be taught how to sew. They end up striking a friendship and Maria becomes comfortable enough to talk about her ideals and goals of revolution. Turns out, Romeo is actually the leader of Aelius’s religion, and disguised himself as a commoner to escape his role that he feels uncomfortable and unfit for. Romeo doesn’t dare to expose his identity but he does end up internalizing some of Maria’s beliefs and working to subtly implement them. Maria does eventually find Romeo’s true identity and feel betrayed but decides to use her friendship with Romeo to her advantage. Before maria kickstarts the revolution, she does confront Romeo about being in universe pope, they basically talk it out and shit. Maria begins the revolution by fighting and murdering Aelius and then sets fire to the capital of the empire.

There’s more to this and i can explain it to you in detail if you want but yeah that’s basically the summary of story 4 of g&g. I also would love to talk about certain themes of story 4 like divinity as dehumanization if you want me to. I also have several Pinterest boards of Maria, Aelius, Destiny, courage, and more if you want me to share them to you. 👍👍👍

yes exactly, she used that space to gain representation points, even if it makes no sense the way and that obviusly is going to be awkward for flora to be with anna and ari in their first travel together because if cc sees anna as grief-free and happier than ever, then she would be affectionate with ari. maybe they even have to share suites even with different rooms, or share even rooms as women in that time wouldnt take a room to themselves in certain places, so it would be awkward.

also i noticed the end also has family scenes in one way or another of everyone except gabriel and cecily, which i don't get if it is to say they get excluded from the group , as in the last scene everyone was talking to someone not from the direct family except them that were alone with their youngest.

in the end there is also a scene where thomas and alastair are mentioning domestic stuff related to zachary like getting him a dog, they have been together so little, and zachary has a mother, why do they talk like they are the parents? there is not this approach with james and cordelia with him who are more solid in that moment

In my opinion giving more space to Gabrily would have made CC gain representation points, since they’re the ones who canonically accepted their daughter’s homosexuality and, unlike all the other characters that accepted their non straight children without beating an eye in 1903, for them it actually make sense.

Or, another representation, could have been revealing that Thomas is so scared of letting anyone know he is gay despite literally no one has problems wirh Anna being out and proud, is that he overheard Gideon tell Gabriel something like "are you sure you’re actually okay with Anna liking women?" and in ChoT Thomas and Gideon could have had an emotional talk about Gideon accepting him. It would have made more sense both for Thomas’s character and because we know Gideon since TID and the readers care about him.

But Flora popped out from literally nowhere, I don’t even remember if we knew her name before ChoT and now she is suddenly one of the best mothers.

Anon, don’t let me start about how shit Gabrily were treated in this book. Gabriel sees his batshit crazy sister holding a knife against his toddler's throat and says nothing?! Are you fucking kidding me?!

I totally believe that if Gabrily's personality hadn’t been devastated in this shit series, they would have probably sorted out the entire plot, resolved the miscommunication between Anna and Ari and saved Grace from Tatiana all in 40 pages.

But they had to be treated like shit and put aside even in their important moments. They were literally brought their son’s body but we are told that Tessa and Will cry because the idiots they have for children are alive in London and Gabrily aren’t even mentioned. Are you fucking kidding me?? Why should I care about Wessa??

And the fact that they are isolated in the end it makes sense to me, idk where you live, but unfortunately in my country is quite common that people leave alone a grieving family and since no one of the others cared about Kit, except for Henry Fairchild, in my head it makes sense that they all left Gabrily alone in their grief.

I will tell you a hot take, anon: if Wessa was done dirty one tenth of how much Gabrily was done dirty in this shit book (and series), the general consensus would be our opinion.

About Thomastair you’re 100% right: no one in their right mind thinks about family, a dog, adopting children with the person they've been dating just six months. Also Thomas and Alastair are so emotionally immature that they couldn’t even talk to each other about their own feelings until after they have sex, but somehow I have to believe they have this strong and pure love just because they're a MM couple.

They're barely able to take care of themselves, they shouldn’t have dogs or, god forbid, children at least for 5 or 10 years, when they'll maybe be mature people.

I think that Cassandra tried to recreate Malec 2.0, with the difference that Malec are more mature than Thomastair and they adopt Max after two years of relationship, since at that point both Magnus and Alex are mature enough to take care of a child.

Thomastair instead are too immature to have a conversation, why should I believe they are ready to adopt a child?

Can we try? (Zuke x Purl-Hew drabble)

Summary: Zuke's relationship with romance is complicated, but he's goingg to try again. (More of a warm up oneshot this time. Might do Zuke x Zimelu next)

Author’s note: Rarepair time baby! I was originally going to do Rin x Zuke, as I’ve seen lot’s of cute media of it, but then I had an idea: What about a ship I haven’t seen yet? (It’s so rare, if it were a steak, it’d be mooing.. Either that, or I somehow just didn’t notice it before.)

Zuke's relationship with romance was… complicated.

He didn't dislike the idea of romance. Quite the opposite, really. He wanted to have a partner in life.

The thing is… he was afraid. His last relationship resulted in a bitter, fiery, frightening end.

He shivered at the thought, subconsciously running his hand through his hair. 

Needless to say, he didn't need a repeat of that.

After a while, he came to the conclusion that romance… probably wasn't for him. Even if he wanted it to be. He just gave up trying.

He met Mayday, his best friend, band partner, and roommate. He was glad he met her. 

She was a great friend to have, he felt comfortable around her. Safe. As they shared their love for Rock together. Eventually the idea of romance drifted away from him. He stopped thinking about it.

Then the revolution happened.

It started with Sayu's comment. While she was wrong about his feelings being for Mayday, she did have a point, in a way.

"Ba-bump! Ba-bump!"

"Ba-bump?"

"It means follow your heart Zuke!"

He started thinking about it again briefly, before Mayday refocused everyone on the fight at hand. The revolution continued to be a distraction for Zuke, Yinu and DK West took his mind off it, (even if his brother brought a whole different kind of baggage) it gave Zuke something to prioritize. Until they met 1010.

“Haters gonna hate. When we show up, we get the sexy mission done. You better put on your tactical thermal goggles, ‘cause we’re gonna bring the heat!”

Ugh. So cheezy. It was just like 1010 to say things like that. May fawning over them didn’t help. Neither did the factory constantly dropping more bots each time they broke one, making the whole ordeal last even longer. The whole situation was aggravating to Zuke. At the time, he didn’t get what so many people (including May) saw in these guys.

At the time.

After 1010, there was the battle he dreaded, more than he did Tatiana. 

Nadia.

He missed her. He respected her. He understood her. He loved her…

Then he feared her.

He ran from her. He hid from her. He fought her.

“There is no one… Not even him.”

He comforted her, but still kept her at arm’s length.

When the rock revolution ended, he and May went indie again. Eventually, they became friends with various members of NSR. He began talking with Eve again, even if it was a bit tense. He also found himself bonding with Sayu’s crew, as well as Yinu and her mother. May, of course, quickly got attached to 1010.

Speaking of 1010…

That was what all these thoughts accumulating were about. Zuke had a bit of a dilemma going on.

One of the 1010 members, while as flirty as the rest, had chosen a different target to show his affection to. While most of them focussed on Mayday, one chose Zuke. The blue-haired, sunglass-wearing, boy band android: Purl-Hew.

Yeah, he didn’t know why either.

Well, at first, he didn’t even realize that was the case. 

A tapping on the sewer cover brought Zike out of his nap on the couch. Grumbling for a bit, he climbed up the ladder and pried open for the unexpected guest. 

He had to squint as he was met with a bright blue light. A synthesized voice pierced into Zuke's ears.

"Why does something so beautifully radiant hide away in the sewers rather than gracing the world with your light?"

Zuke rolled his eyes, "Dude, May's not here, you can stop. She'll be back later, I'll tell her you stopped by."

Then he closed the sewer grate, and descended back into his home.

'Huh. Wonder why it was just one of them this time.. Don't they usually do things as a group?'

He figured it was just a weird, one time occurrence.

Then, weeks later it happened again.

The tapping, Zuke opening the grate. Purl-Hew humming out a cheesy pickup line, Zuke telling him that May wasn't home again, and him closing the grate.

Then again. 

And again.

And again.

It became almost a routine at some point.

Weeks of Purl-Hew randomly dropping by. Almost every time it was when Mayday happened to be out.

Another few days went by, and May had gone to see a movie. Originally they were going to see it together, but Zuke's back and legs started acting up and he wanted to stay home and rest.

May offered to stay and help him with anything he'd need, but he insisted he would be fine and she should go still. It took a bit of convincing, but she eventually agreed, on the condition that he'd call someone if he needed help.

So, once again he was alone at home, laying on the couch.

And the tapping happened again.

He let out a frustrated groan.

Reluctantly he pried himself from the couch slowly. If he was careful (and lucky) maybe he'd be able to climb the ladder without hurting himself too much.

The climb was slow and cautious, yet still sharply shot pain up his back as he moved.

He pushed the manhole cover aside, poking his head out into the world above.

Once again, Purl-Hew was back.

Before the android could say anything, Zuke let out an exasperated sigh, already preparing to close the sewer's entrance.

"Dude, again, May isn't here-"

"I know."

Purl-Hew's hand caught the metal cover, preventing Zuke from closing it.

Zuke froze.

"... What?"

"She took Eloni to the movies, so I knew she wouldn't be here. I want to see you." Purl-Hew stated, his tone making it seem like that was an obvious fact.

Zuke tried to read the robot's expression, but with him wearing his signature tinted glasses and his silicon lips pressed into a thin line, it was impossible to read him.

"I uh… why uh… why though?" Zuke quizzed.

The android, despite not needing to breathe, did so just so that he could let out a frustrated sigh.

His hands practice shit to Zuke's sides, hooking under his arms.

Just as fast as he grabbed him, he yanked him out of the sewer and held him above the ground.

Zuke's feet dangled over a foot above the ground. Stunned and shocked, he could barely utter a question before he was interrupted again.

Purl-Hew held Zuke close, almost slamming his lips into Zuke's with a firm but chaste kiss.

Zuke might have been human, but he felt like a computer program crashing. 

All thoughts left him, all he could do was look at the blue bot wide-eyed.

Purl-Hew pulled away, looking Zuke in the eyes.

"Does that answer your question?"

"I- I guess? I mean, yes? But also, why me? When did this," Zuke pointed at himself, "Become a draw for you?" 

The android's jaw dropped. "You're kidding, right?"

"Aren't you?"

"No!" He protested.

"Is it really that hard to believe that I find you attractive?"

Zuke paused, thinking of his response. Purl's tone sounded so genuine, despite his mechanical voice.

"I.. I'm just not used to this. It's not that I see myself as ugly, but I know I'm not anything too special. I'm just… me."  Zuke confessed, shrugging as best as he could in his position. He still was hovering over the ground in Purl-Hew's grasp.

Purl pulled him close, touching their foreheads together.

"I'm very drawn to you, Zuke. You're not only a good looking guy, but you're also loyal. Kind. You have a relaxing atmosphere I've grown to appreciate about you. I like you… I want to spend more time with you, I want to know more about you. Zuke.."

He pecked Zuke on the cheek.

"Will you go out with me? On a date?"

Zuke's heart jumped into his throat.

Could he date someone again? After all this time? Did he want to?

… He wasn't sure how to feel.

But..

He chewed the inside of his lip. Purl-Hew's been trying to get his attention for months, relatively politely too.

He too was putting himself out there. Flirting with someone who's shown zero reaction to it till now. Opening himself up, and letting him be in a vulnerable position.

Zuke took a breath.

"Okay, we can give it a try.."

"Wait- really!?" Purl-Hew's voice raised. Excitement bubbling to the surface, his cheeks glowed a brighter blue.

 

Zuke nodded, avoiding eye contact.

"Y-yeah.. Let's try it out.." 

In a matter of milliseconds, he was pulled into a hug.

"Thanks Zuke. You won't regret it~"

Burning Constellation floods a waterpark (Storytime)

So I recently mentioned to my good friend @erigold13261 about how everyone’s chaotic rock band known as Burning Constellation has gotten into a lot more trouble than just blowing up the Grand Qwasa, and one of their acts of mischief involved the flooding of a waterpark that they were at to film a music video as a part of their album “Beach Episode” (Yes that’s what they came up with for the name).

Anyway I will tell you the story of Burning Constellation and the Waterpark Flooding of Akusuka :3

Orion decided on the idea to film a music video so the band could get more attention on their album since the method of promoting their previous album last time with the satellite hacking and blasting it on repeat for 2 weeks didn’t work out as intended. And it would just so happen that a popular waterpark in the Akusuka District had recently added their reservation program so people could host al kinds of events. I’m sure you can see where this is going-

After a few phone calls and pulling some strings as her job as the manager/lead guitarist, Orion had booked the waterpark for the day of filming and Sonya, Mason, and Danny were ready to have a great time making a splash (I’m sorry that pun was not funny I’ll leave /j)

So the band gets to the waterpark wearing nothing but their swimsuits and sets up for filming, and after making sure everything was ready the filming began. A large group of fans were also there to see the band film their music video and also go swimming as well, so it also became a meet in greet at the same time. So when filming started, the fans watched as it was done all in one take the band performed their song and at the end of it Sonya punched the water tank for the funnies, but since she has super strength everyone realized they make a huge mistake when the water tank completely broke and the waterpark was now submerged in water. Luckily the cameraman got out of there before the waterpark got completely underwater with the equipment, and the fans were quickly evacuated as well, but the band had to cling onto a floating inflatable of their choice as the water rushed at them. Thankfully no one was hurt but the band was still stuck inside the waterpark on their floating inflatable devices and a rescue team had to come and get them out before the water could be drained. Needless to say this incident made the news and memes were made because the band were just having a good time swimming and sunbathing since the waterpark being submerged meant that it was just the four of them having the place all to themselves. 

After the band was rescued and the water was drained, Titanium proceeded to give them a lecture about punching water tanks and the waterpark officials banned Burning Constellation from coming back, which did spark outrage from the fans but luckily other waterparks were open to having the band come visit them. And that’s the story of how Burning Constellation flooded a waterpark and got banned from going back there afterwards-

Idk how everyone else (Bunk Bed Junction, Kliff, Tatiana, NSR Artists etc.) would have reacted to Burning Constellation flooding a waterpark but I’m sure there would be some concerns over them being trapped, some sighs of disappointment, and even being in disbelief that the four band members were completely unfazed by this whole thing.

ooh idk where to start so little summaries!

Alyssa Solomon – a revamp of an oc I had when I was like 10 named Charlie Solomon tbh, Aly is Joe's daughter, a very well trained spy with the occasional ego issue. She has more practical experience than any of her classmates but her social skills are lacking as a result. She's very private, no one knows anything about her family until Joe shows up as the new CoveOps teacher. I know who her mother is but she doesn't, and Zach Goode is her best friend and very much like a brother to her. Lives and dies by the phrase "stay alert, stay ahead, stay alive," which is a mantra that she and Zach say to each other all the time

Annalise Goode – Annalise is Zach's twin sister. At thirteen, Joe was able to get them away from Catherine and got Zach enrolled at Blackthorn, but because of how well Catherine knew the academy, it wasn't safe for Annalise. At least not until Joe takes over as a teacher, and Annalise finally has a chance to be a Gallagher Girl. She avoids talking about her past & her mother, but will occasionally share details about her life in the form of very sarcastic comments that no one actually takes seriously

Kayla Astor & Liam Hughes – raised in the circle with Zach. Enrolled at Gallagher Academy & Blackthorn respectively and are meant to be smuggling information back to the circle, but come to realize that they don't want to be a part of that anymore

Leia ( & Louise ) Gallagher – direct descendent of Gilly Gallagher, raised by her Aunt Louise and spent most of her childhood in hotel rooms with Zach while they observed Joe & Louise's missions. She has seen the world through the eyes of a spy and has been exposed to a lot in that way, but her normal life experiences are majorly lacking. She can't remember the last time she might have left the Academy for any reason other than a mission, even her trips to Rosewood have all been for school. At the start of the first book, Louise suddenly has to go completely off the grid, and her last words to Leia are to listen to Joe, and to trust him no matter what

and Louise is a Gallagher Academy alumni and now spy, partnered with Joe Solomon

Lulu Johnson – Lulu Johnson is DeeDee's sister, a Rosewood townie with a heart of gold. But when everyone else is given the tea to make them forget everything, it never does work on Lulu, which leads to her being recruited into the Academy

Marley McHenry – details vague, Macey's equally problem child twin sister

Paisley Winters – Paisley is Preston's twin sister. She witnesses the events on the rooftop at the start of book 3 which sets her on a mission to uncover the truth about Cammie and Macey, leads her down a much darker rabbit hole than she expected as she figures out her own family's involvement in all of this, eventually is taken to the Academy for her protection and learns how to be a Gallagher Girl herself

Regina Townsend – head empty just vibes, Agent Townsend's daughter

Ryleigh Fitzgerald – adopted when she was 5, not anything special academically, has no idea why she was recruited to the Academy

Back to the paladin thing, so paladins in dnd usually pledge themselves to a God and get their power from them or whatever, BUT there's also a different type of paladin called an oath paladin, where their power comes from an oath they've pledged rather than an entiy

When she gets to fairy tail she tries to understand her magic more but finds it difficult to channel it unless someone is actively trying to hurt someone else

Her magic doesn't come naturally if she's the one being attacked, it has to be someone else

SO I have a lot written abt erza gray and natsu being the most weird sibling ever and in the mean time erza is simply training in more traditional fighting and swords man ship bc shes learned v quickly she can't always rely on her magic to carry her in a fight

OK SO LAST THING, as erza grows older she gains the blessing of the fairy queen Tatiana, not directly but she can FEEL her presence and it helps erza channel her magic more freely bc she has to accept thats is is part of this new strange family and protecting herself is just as important as protecting others because she needs to be alive to protect them

In my mind fairy magic is like a creation type magic, tho u can't make something from nothing BUT since erzas oath is based around her family erza can make her magical armor and weapons based on her bonds with her family

Like she gets a chain mail sort of shall made out of dragon scales, they are fire resistant and cut like a blade, it's heavy so it limits mobility

However very soon after she also summond boots that make ice when she walks, that takes a lot of training with gray to get use to but the combination of the two allow almost full defense and mobility

Most of her armors and weapons are just random things shes found but these are special, their strength is reliant on her love for the person they connect with and the power increases when they are uses in defense of that person specifically

HOWEVER they take a lot of magical energy and erza doesn't always have control over WHAT the weapon will be, causing her to go a little crazy in terms of training herself to be damn near proficient in every weapon or fighting style she can think of

I dislike the canon ages being so young so in my mind I age them up like 3-4 years when canon starts and so when erza finally starts going out on jobs on her own she's constantly training and perfecting her technique, almost never allowing herself STILL to use more magically enhanced weapons unless she absolutely has to and that's my explanation for why she's so crazy strong??

When canon starts I kinda think she has at least 1 thing for every guild member, but they r very small with the exception of natsu, gray, mira and Makarov, the trade off being that those are still the hardest for her to use

Lil extra thing

Natsus armor is the cloak like I mentioned, but by the time canon starts it has an extra property where if the enemy is hit with it or touches it it causes burning and melting damage rather than slicing them from the sharp scales, if you are not en enemy the cloak does no harm

Grays boots start as more normal boots with the bottoms replaces with ice, however as their bond grows the shoes become knee high plated boots of ice, allowing even more chance for mobility since she can slide on her knees without breaking momentum, if she kicks an enemy with them equipped they are stunned or "frozen" for a small period of time.

Mira, ok so first it's just a simple gauntlet that looks more like some brass knuckles, but again, time passes and they become more intricate, by canon time the gauntlet is a full sleeve of weeving patterns and almost lace texture, the hand mimics miras demon form claw but the rest is the beauty and grace of her mira, the claw and talons can pierce almost anything and are very hard to control on that front so erza doesn't use them often since she doesn't usually try to inflict lethal damage on opponents, but it has a good amount of practical use when trying to clear paths or use the terrain to her advantage

I think erza gains weapons as she goes, not only from others like lucy, but eventually natsus cloak has a matching chest plate, grants boots come with daggers, etc

alright, so i went through the ama with wan hazmer and daim dziauddian on twitch and picked out every little tidbit i could about the megastars bc i knew you guys would want to know. this is a long post and i’m on mobile atm so i can’t put it under a read more — sorry about that! bosses are in chronological order, starting with DJSS and ending with Eve!

DJ SUBATOMIC SUPERNOVA

- djss took the least amount of time to develop out of all the bosses (haz says his fight took about half a year.)

- daim purposely tried to make djss' name as long as he could. he was specifically looking at negasonic teenage warhead from deadpool for inspiration.

- haz and daim do have the briefing/kliffnotes for djss. they discussed sharing them at some point, but idk when that would happen.

- related to the above, daim says that dj is in his mid thirties. EDIT: his kliffnotes were shared on twitter and they say he’s 41. daim must have goofed haha

- when asked if djss actually has a face and how he eats, daim compares it to kenny from south park and how you never see his face. he thinks dj does have a face in there, but that we just never see it. as for the “how does he eat” part, daim says that sometimes they don’t have to show everything.

- daim is a djneon/neonnova shipper, and it’s one his favourite pairings alongside zuke/mayday.

- daim said that uncle ali basically instantly landed the role as djss. he was that good.

SAYU

- sayu was obviously inspired by hatsune miku and other vocaloids, but haz brings up one particular commercial involving miku and google chrome, which involves a bunch of people collborating on songs and concept art for miku, similar to how sayu started as a collab between remi and tila in-universe.

- someone asked about the models for sayu's crew's apartments. there wasn't much on that, but haz mentions that one of his favourite nsr fanfics (yes, he reads them) is "Road to Redemption," and there's a scene that takes place in a studio where the crew works on sayu, and he really likes that.

- the devs wanted sayu's name to sound both malay and japanese at the same time (as well as a nod to miku). haz says it means “warm water” in japanese.

- akusuka is a direct copy of akihabara in terms of locale.

- sayu’s shellfish commercial is a homage to a real snack in malaysia named mamee monster, which is hugely popular with kids. the format of the commercial itself was inspired by a pocky commercial that featured hatsune miku.

YINU

- her game design (for her boss fight) was partially done in ms paint by music director falk (who made the base version of her boss theme)

- yinu's mom doesn't have a name. she's just mother/mama.

- haz confirmed that yinu's father is, in fact, dead.

- daim thought yinu’s name was a nod to yuna (a popular malaysian artist). it’s not.

- natura is daim’s favourite district. he likes how calm it is compared to the others.

- daim said that they wanted a hint of hope in all three of yinu’s backstory photographs, to show that no matter how bad your life gets, there’s always that glimmer of hope and that good things can still happen.

1010

- the members of 1010 do not have any official names.

- the assets for the autographs were made by the artists at one of the partner companies working with metronomik on nsr. haz and daim didn't really have anything to do with making them, and while daim did approve them for the final game, he was sorta skimming through a bunch of assets along with the autographs, and he didn't realize what they really were at the time until later. haz is impressed with how the fans managed to decipher them.

- 1010's fight was purposefully put between yinu's and eve's as a break from the emotional stuff.

- michael jackson was used as a reference for 1010's animations/moves.

- the Bio Tactical Shield that you get for zuke after beating 1010 is a reference to BTS.

- tangibly related, but the collectable figurines are supposed to serve more as a backstory to vinyl city as a whole, rather than 1010 or neon j. daim describes the figures as what events were going on and what people were doing before the events of nsr.

- 1010’s appearance from older trailers (where they all looked the same) were actually placeholders. 1010’s actual designs weren’t finished yet when those trailers were released.

- parts of 1010’s designs (for their bodies/outfits) were inspired by tron uprising, a project that daim worked on.

- somebody asked why 1010 and neon j have sculpted butt plates. daim and haz have no idea, but daim suggested that ellie (who designed 1010) and jan (who did their character models) put them there to up the “sexy robot” factor.

- daim’s favourite member of 1010 is purl-hew/blue, and haz’s favourite is eloni/green.

- the members of 1010 were designed based on popular tropes in boy bands. rin/white is “the main guy,” zimelu/red is the “bad boy,” purl-hew/blue is the “cool guy,” haym/yellow is the “young/innocent one,” and eloni/green is the “weird/funny one.”

- eloni/green not getting fan mail was based on how the “funny guy” of kpop bands/idol groups don’t seem to get as much attention as the rest of the group.

NEON J

- haz and daim didn't expect neon j to become so popular. haz joked about blaming it on ddaddystar, who did that doodle of djss and neon j from the credits.

- when asked about neon j’s age, daim said he’s definitely older than djss, and that he could be in his forties.

- related to the age thing, someone in chat said he should be older if he went to war in the sixties. haz replied by saying they never mentioned what year the game takes place in, so it doesn’t necessarily take place in the present/2020.

- a lot of people asked about the border wars, and daim and haz said they like leaving the bulk of it up to fan interpretation.

- daim said that neon j’s organs were preserved in a robotic shell after the war, and that’s why he’s considered a cyborg.

- as stated above, daim is a djneon/neonnova shipper, and it’s one his favourite pairings alongside zuke/mayday.

- neon j’s monologue was slightly longer, but it was cut down because zul (neon j’s va) didn’t do very many takes for the monologue, and the takes he did do didn’t have the comedic punch that daim was looking for, so it got shortened.

- the singing parts of neon j’s lines were ad-libbed by zul in his audition, and daim liked it so much that it stayed for the final game.

- neon j’s monologue had to be altered in the japanese dub so that the jokes/comedy would make more sense.

EVE

- the color changing paintings from her boss fight were created by accident.

- eve was put as the last boss because of how emotional her relationship with zuke was and how complicated and intricate she is as a whole compared to the rest of the bosses.

- daim considers eve to be the "final boss" for zuke, while tatiana is the final boss for mayday.

- eve took the longest to develop out of all the bosses. she was orignally a lot more complicated, and daim said they had to "filter" a lot of things about her in order to tone her down and fit her into the game.

- eve was almost scrapped from the game. daim said her concept as an eccentric artist wasn't as well known as the other four bosses’ concepts, and combine that with how long it took to finalize her... yeah.

- none of the artists have set in stone heights because of how the gameplay works, but eve is the tallest one. the closest scene in the game that has them at their actual heights is the ending.

- her name was originally eva, but it was changed bc there’s already a popular artist with the same name.

- daim explains that a big part of eve’s concept and theme is her embracing herself. he uses the example of eve’s backstory where she starts out hating herself and trying to cover the pink half of her face, but then starts doing less of that overtime. he also mentions that all the body parts (hands, arms, legs, etc.) from her fight also come from her embracing her body and using it in her artwork.

- dream fever is haz’s favourite district.

- daim didn’t originally think of zuke and eve as being an actual couple until later down the line when the story heavily implied it.

- eve’s younger designs were done by lzbros, who did all the 2d animation for the game.

Casting Thoughts

Yes, I did a long post when the rumours first dropped but hey now it’s confirmed plus we have characters descriptions, and I’m bored so let’s do this all over again people.  Under the cut because it got long

Sisi Stringer as Rose Hathaway

I said this in my other post but I’m pretty happy with Sisi as Rose.

Visually I think she’s a great fit, I love that they casted a WoC in the main role, and I think if she can bring Rose’s humour and sarcasm to the role, she’s going to do great.

The character description mentions Rose being “fiery and outspoken”, happy to jump into the action, and the strongest fighter in her class but struggling to toe the line, which is all very Rose-esque, especially in the first book.  It sounds to me like they have a good grasp on her character.

I’m a little disappointed we didn’t hear more about Rose as a character since she is the lead - it felt like the descriptions for Lissa and Dimitri both gave us a little more to go on - but it is only a very preliminary description so I’m happy to wait for more.

Daniela Nieves as Lissa Dragomir

Daniele is another one who I was happy with straight away.

She’s probably not what I imagined for Lissa visually but that’s not a bad thing either; I will be interested to see if they dye her hair a lighter colour (like a caramel-blonde) but personally that’s not something I need to see for her to be a great fit for Lissa.

I think she has a very sweet face which works well for a character like Lissa but I think she’s also going to be able to stand up in Lissa’s more fiercer moments which is nice to see as well.

The character descriptions mentions her as being “carefree and kind-hearted” who “coasts” through life until a death in the family thrusts her into a new role.  That sounds a lot like pre-series Lissa so I wonder if we’re going to see a bit of that in the show before Andre (and her parents??) die and see that change.  

It’s curious though that she’s described as the younger sister of the heir apparent - which would be Andre - so it sounds like they’ve changed it so Andre was supposed to be King.  Obviously a deviation from the books but I don’t hate it?  I don’t think it would change Lissa’s arc all that much because obviously she was always going to grow up to be an influential royal figure, this just slightly changes the dynamics of it.

The description also specifically mentions that she’s uninterested in “political machinations” and the “hypocrisy of the moroi royal society” which sounds very accurate to book!lissa as well.

All in all I’m very happy with what they’re doing with Lissa.

Keiron Moore as Dimitri Belikov

This is one who’s really grown on me since the rumoured cast list started circulating.  At first I was kind of eh about him but I can really see him as Dimitri now.

I will be curious to see if he grows out his hair or not though.

As far as I know Keiron is not Russian, there’s not a lot about him online, but there’s some instagram activity on his account linking him to UK based companies so that would be my guess as to where he’s from.  They’ve kept Dimitri’s incredibly Russian name so I guess we’re to assume Keiron might be doing an accent and they’re keeping Dimitri’s backstory relatively the same?  I’m not gonna be super mad if they change it just because I think it’s doable for him not to be Russian (I know, I know a whole book is set in Russia but lbr here they could make him from anywhere and just send Rose there in that book).

The biggest thing for me will be his chemistry with Sisi, Danila and Zoey had great chemistry (imo anyway) which saved the move a little for me, so it’ll be important that Sisi and Keiron do as well.  They’ve interacted a few times online which is cute so I’m hoping they were able to do some chemistry reads and that will translate on screen.

The character description mentions Dimitri as being “lethal, disciplined, discreet, and totally committed” as well as living by “a deep moral code” but with more going on “beneath his stoic, watchful surface” which sounds exactly like book!Dimitri to me.

They don’t really specify what his role at St Vlad’s is going to be but they do mention that he is a guardian so I’m assuming they’re keeping some sort of age gap between him and Rose.  They also don’t mention anything about their relationship in the description, be it student/teacher, platonic, romantic, whatever, but they do say he has “an expansive spirit that could threaten to expose the underlying tension between his sense of what’s right and his formal duty to the Moroi.” which seems like a nod to their relationship.

Andre Dae-Kim as Christian Ozera

This was one of my favourite casting choices from the original rumoured cast list and I still love it.

The idea of a non-white Christian makes a lot of sense to me and I think Andre could do a great job of Christian’s aloofness (in the first book) as well as his sarcasm and growing confidence across the other books.

His character description confuses me a bit though: “Intelligent and thoughtful, Christian is the pariah of the school and royal court, due to his parents’ unforgivable societal sins.” sounds accurate enough to the book (although idk if thoughtful is quite the word I’d use for Christian - maybe they mean it in the sense that he’s quiet and keeps to himself?).

Even “Well-read and hungry for knowledge” doesn’t sound that far off, idk if he was *that* particularly studious in the books, but it doesn’t necessarily not make sense either you know?

But “he searches for faith-based answers and discovers a kindred spirit who is also looking for the truth” ??? My cynical, irreverent asshole Christian is now a man of faith? I’m assuming Lissa is the “kindred spirit” (again weird word choice but maybe they mean she’s feeling lost because of the death of her family?) but I just cannot see Christian as being particularly religious.

I’m trying to keep an open mind about these changes because you never know they might play out totally different on screen, but I really hope they didn’t make these changes, particularly that Christian is studious and religious, just because they cast an Asian actor as him (because they feel a little like Asian stereotypes).

J August Richards as Victor Dashkov

This is one that didn’t appear on the original rumoured cast list (as far as I saw) and it’s so different to his description in the books that I kind of don’t have an opinion about it as a casting choice.

I’ve never seen him in anything before so purely on a visual level I think he could be a great fit for Victor, I just think it’ll really come down to how he plays it.

As for this character description: “Victor is a Moroi noble vampire with a heart of gold who’s highly regarded for his role as advisor and political strategist to Moroi dignitaries.” as well as mentioning that he has intelligence and influence, sounds pretty accurate to the book.  Obviously if Andre was the heir to the throne, Victor had to be shifted out of that role, but I think his book 1 arc could still work if they wanted it to.

The “heart of gold” bit obviously made me chuckle and I really hope they threw it in there as a kind of decoy to throw non-book-readers off the fact that he’s actually the villain in book 1/s1.

As for giving him a husband and two daughters, my thoughts are: why the fuck not? He didn’t have a love interest in the original books and I’m always down for more lgbtq+ rep.  My only concern is it maybe playing into the trope of evil/villain characters being queer-coded.  And as for having two daughters, well as long as one of them is Natalie I don’t mind.

Anita-Joy Uwajeh as Tatiana Vogel

Okay this is the most bizarre one imo, not because of the casting, but just the character description.

I mean “Tatiana is a Moroi vampire and political underdog who slowly takes the royal court by storm. Motivated by love and a sense of justice, Tatiana has a unique skill of making herself seem of no consequence until we realize much too late that she was always the one to watch.” sounds extremely Tasha Ozera to me, so like why not just make this character Tasha?  Nothing about this sounds like Tatiana, and Tatiana wasn’t even a Vogel anyway (well Vogel wasn’t even one of the 12 royal families), she was an Ivashkov.

In terms of Anita-Joy herself, well I mean we don’t really have a character to compare her to, is she supposed to be more like Tasha or Tatiana?  She looks fairly young, so my guess is actually on Tasha, but we’ll have to wait to see I guess.

Mia McKenna-Bruce as Mia Karp

This is another one that I was instantly a fan of.

I was so not a fan of Mia’s casting in the movie (I can’t even remember who played her tbh but I really didn’t like it) so this Mia is a lot closer to how I imagine her.

I think she’ll be able to carry Mia’s transformation from bratty social-climber to badass fighter really well.

The character description is interesting though.  “Witty, cutting, and just the right kind of ruthless when necessary, non-Royal Mia has a long-term plan to social climb her way into the ranks of royalty, with all the privilege and freedom that entails.” sound pretty bang on to Mia in the first book.

“A plan complicated by her instant chemistry with Meredith, a Guardian-in-training, as Mia struggles to reconcile her attraction to Meredith with her lowly status.” is an obvious deviation though, and one I kind of love???  Give me all the queer rep, and if we get to see Mia confront the issue of comp-het I’m so here for it.  

It’s kind of funny though because I’ve seen theories that Meredith is a replacement for Eddie and Mia/Eddie has always been my sort of rarepair ship.

The last name Karp is weird af though.  Is she supposed to be Sonya’s daughter?  And if that’s the case I wonder if we’re going to actually see Sonya turn Strigoi in the show’s first season or something and that triggers the change in Mia?  Interesting concept but I’m not sure how the timeline will work.

Rhian Blundell as Meredith

So this is another new one, and tbh I hadn’t given Meredith *that* much though in the past but she’s probably close to how I would have pictured her which is cool.

The elephant in the room with this casting is that Meredith’s role in the books was relatively minor - she was just kind of that character that got brought up whenever R.M needed a dhampir who wasn’t Rose/Dimitri/Mason/Eddie.  So clearly she’s going to have a bigger role in the tv show which I don’t mind but I do wonder if we’re going to lose a character - probably Eddie lbr - in order to have her.  They haven’t casted an Eddie yet as far as we know, but I have seen it pointed out that Eddie’s role in book 1 was pretty small so maybe they just aren’t announcing it.  But there’s also the possibility that maybe Meredith will sort of replace Eddie and be the third part of Rose and Mason’s friendship.

I’m very interested by this part of her character description though, “She has little patience for Rose’s volatility or Mia’s elitism, and regularly calls both of them out.”

Jonetta Kaiser as Sonya Karp

I don’t necessarily dislike Jonetta as Sonya but I am confused by this choice.  She looks fairly young, which tbf Sonya was young-ish I guess, but if Mia is supposed to be her daughter she doesn’t look old enough to have a teenaged daughter.  So maybe Sonya and Mia are sisters? Cousins? Just have each other’s last names for no reason? I really don’t know.  They also look nothing alike.

Other than that, I don’t really have an opinion about Jonetta as Sonya.  Obviously looks nothing like how Sonya was described but that’s not new nor a massive concern for me.  

I can’t really tell just from looking at her, and I haven’t seen her in anything, if she would play a good Sonya.  I think with a lot of the characters it’s going to come down to the personality they bring to the part and the writing.

I looooooove her character description though:  “Quiet, careful and decidedly odd, Sonya is not of royal bloodline and sits out on the fringe of Moroi society, preferring to spend her time in the library or her gardens. Not a person who likes a scene, nonetheless she has a quiet but profound power of her own. She is taken by surprise when a Dhampir Guardian named Mikhail shows interest in her, a relationship that will expose both the brightest and darkest parts of her heart.”  It’s everything I would probably want from a description of Sonya and I’m more and more convinced that we’re going to see Sonya’s descent into madness and transformation into a Strigoi play out in maybe the first season which I am so curious how they’re going to work into the timeline.

Andrew Liner as Mason Ashford

Our last one and another one who doesn’t look remotely like his description but again? Not a surprise and not a problem for me.  He looks like he could play Mason’s goofiness really well as well as be a solid contender for a love interest for Rose.

“Charming, loyal and popular, Mason is Rose’s main competition in the quest to become the No. 1 Guardian-in-training. Though their relationship is casual on her side, he is hopeful she will finally look at him and see him as something more.” His character description makes a lot of sense, maybe him being Rose’s main competition is a bit of a deviation? But I think that’s more an indication that he’s supposed to be a strong fighter which isn’t inaccurate to the books.  The rest sounds great.

Other Thoughts

Descriptions of the show specifically mention friendship and classism as major themes which I am very happy to hear about because those are the two parts of VA that I love the most.

Am a little more worried about it being described as “sexy” though, if they shove a whole bunch of meaningless sex scenes in it just because it’s a YA show I’m not gonna be happy.

Seen the show compared to “Game of Thrones” and “Bridgerton” which at first had me like oh fuck oh fuck oh fuck not good not good not good.  But thinking about it more and trying to understand where Plec’s coming from with that description I wonder if means similar to GoT as in the cut-throat nature of the Moroi/Dhampir society cause I can kind of see that.  And as for Bridgerton I wonder if she’s referring to the kind of social-climbing aspects of it, because again that makes sense and it seems like a theme she really wants to concentrate on.  I hope that’s what she means by those comparisons, or that she just wants to compare it to popular shows to get people to watch it.  The worst would be if she tries to throw in a lot of unnecessary sex scenes to make it like those shows, because I hate when they do that, especially when the characters are teenagers.

Interesting to hear that Plec has known about the series since before Twilight or TVD - not sure if that’s a good thing or a bad thing.

Seems like it’s actually mostly (or all??) written by Marguerite MacIntyre which is interesting because I know people were worried about Julie Plec - I’ve never watched anything by either of them so I’m neutral at this point.

I also love how many different types of characters they are- some are heroes, some are villains, some are anti-heroes, and some are just human or just somewhere in the middle, not good, not evil.

dhsldhsldj y’all are way too interested in a half-assed thought oh GOD idk idk eddie’s probably cogsworth, buck’s probably lumiere. mixed with their own personalities, ofc. or maybe just entirely them, but they just turn into a clock and a candle. i genuinely don’t know the logisitcs of the story!!!! maybe maddie is looking for her brother, has been looking for her brother for years. he disappeared a long time ago, but she doesn’t know that until she’s finally run away from doug. she finds this abandoned castle, isn’t exactly held against her will but definitely under false pretenses (“we can help u find ur brother if u help our master find his manners!!!” but no one tells her they really hope she falls in love w him too lol) chim is the beast, but not necessarily bc he was a spoiled kid, i feel like the witch was just mean. mean. tatiana was probably the witch, lmao. she was bitter and rude and cursed the whole castle, and chim isn’t mean, he isn’t Angry, he doesn’t yell, he’s just kind of…….lost. he’s in this beast form and for all intents and purposes he’s kept the major parts of his humanity (his interests, his jokes) but he just finds walking on all fours or eating without chewing with his mouth closed a lot easier because he’s a big beast, dammit, and he doesn’t have to put on a show for anyone, and no one’s gonna love him like this anyway, so he’s basically Given Up by the time maddie comes around (and at around midnight his head goes a little fuzzy and he loses a all of his humanity, which is why he stays locked inside his room, doesn’t let anyone near him, especially not maddie, because he knows what she’s just escaped and he can’t bear the thought of her seeing him like that) and all of this is seen through the eyes of buck and eddie who, along with the rest of the firefam, have been turned into furniture/silverware/fancy home decor, and they don’t really remember a life before they were cursed. they don’t remember who they were, just whatever their names might have been (buck, for example, remembers buck because it’s the name he gave himself — he doesn’t remember evan, who is the person maddie’s looking for cough) and they’re hopeful the curse might actually break because!!!! maddie’s amazing, and she’s kind, and she’s patient, and she listens to chim and chim is actually Trying again and it’s oh so sweet and oh so romantic and it’s all happening in the background of this other love story that people don’t even realize is also happening???

because buck and eddie started off at constant odds, but they’re each other’s parallels, right??? one of them is more task-oriented, realistic, thinks about the practical ways they could help maddie and chim out, and the other one is a dreamer, thinks outside the box, makes the biggest plans for romantic gestures and believes wholeheartedly their days as inanimate/animate objects is soon to come to an end and they work together to create these beautiful magical moments for maddie and chim and in the meantime they’re making moments for themselves, and they’re always learning more about each other — about what they maybe want when they go back to being human, wondering about who they were, who’s waiting for them, and eventually it kind of hits one of both of them that maybe,,,, they’re scared that whatever’s waiting for them on the other side of this isn’t each other. isn’t this other person who’s made this curse bearable, who’s made the days feel less endless, with gestures that are both grand and quiet and special and theirs for buck, it’s eddie who entertained him with a scavenger hunt throughout the castle that lasted days because he’d mentioned to eddie one time he was starting to feel a little down (and he got the entirety of the firefam involved, but he doesn’t talk about how hen pointed out it was obvious he’d done it solely for buck), and for eddie, it’s buck who sat with him on dark nights over one of his favorite books in order to illuminate the words for eddie as he read, despite very obviously being so, so ready to pass out several times throughout, and he never once complained, never once said no and they find companionship in each other, have long talks about what could be, what could have been, the people they care about, the people they know, the people they might have known. it’s with each other that they’ve managed to survive a curse that for all intents and purposes should have left them hopeless, and they near closer every day to just — becoming these objects, forgetting who they are entirely, forgoing a life they might never have again, but at least they knew each other, and that feels like something special eventually the curse is broken because of something self-sacrifical done by chim for maddie, and everyone turns human again and they all get their memories back and it turns out the curse has spread not just inside this castle but it made everyone else forget about them, that they lost them, their families had just — no idea this had happened, and the only reason maddie could remember buck was because she wasn’t anywhere near this place when the curse was placed, and she was working through her own demons, and blah blah happily ever after for everyone eddie finds out he has a son and a grandmother waiting for him now, and buck has maddie, of course, and before they part, before eddie leaves with his family, he kisses buck softly because that’s the one thing he could never do, not really, not as a fucking clock, anyway, and he tells buck that his door is always open, and eventually buck does find his way to eddie’s home, and he meets christopher and his grandmother and they kiss again and they realize that this relationship they built under a curse translates to this life without it!!! because what they had was never dependent on a curse, it was their only hope throughout it, actually and so buck stays, and he sometimes helps eddie set up elaborate scavenger hunts for christopher, and at night, when chris is tucked in and fast asleep, he’ll lay with eddie in bed, eyes closed, head on his shoulder, as eddie reads to him out loud under a lamp light. and for a second it’ll feel like they’re back in the castle, except this time, when buck falls asleep, eddie can keep reading — but he chooses to close the book and hold buck close, instead
