Would love to hear more about the Miss Congeniality Au!
ahhh miss congeniality au, my beloved!!!! 💖💗💞💕🩷❤️ truly, truly, truly i feel like this au could be so much FUN if i could find the discipline and motivation to just sit down and write it lmao. but i will say i v much enjoyed fitting all the pieces together for this snippet so here's hoping it awakens something in me askdjhf
i hope you like it 🥰
~
Eddie never imagined becoming a special agent. Then again, he never imagined becoming a single dad either.
But FBI work actually keeps him chained to a desk a hell of a lot more than regular police work used to and the pay’s better.
He’s regretting that decision right about now.
“Eddie, it has to be you.”
He pinches the bridge of his nose, quickening his step even as Chimney continues to keep pace with him.
“It absolutely doesn’t, Chim.”
“The whole office agrees-“
Eddie stops short, whirling around. “Just because the little simulation version of me you drew up on the computer had an eight-pack-“
“My computer does not lie, Diaz-“
“I don’t have time,” Eddie cuts in. “I can’t be away from Chris that long.”
“It’s one week. Less, if you do your job right.”
Eddie makes a face.
It’s the stupidest thing he’s ever heard. A charity firefighter competition that he really thinks sounds a hell of a lot like a beauty pageant. Sure, there’s obstacle courses and stuff to complete but he’s not sure what a speedo competition has to do with being a competent firefighter. The cause is noble, he guesses, but there has to be a better way to raise money than deciding who’s the most specialist firefighter in all of Los Angeles.
Especially when the host – Captain Bobby Nash – is the target of a bomb threat.
It wouldn’t even have landed on their desk if not for the fact that three people with ties to Bobby Nash and the LAFD had received bombs in the mail over the last two weeks.
Athena thinks their best chance to take down the mail bomber is to have someone on the inside, to infiltrate the competition and investigate the contestants while also being the FBI’s eyes and ears throughout the week.
Hen and Chim, of course, volunteered Eddie for the job.
“I don’t like undercover work.” It’s an oversimplified version of the truth – that Eddie hates having to perform for an extended period of time and that this competition sounds like his own personal version of hell. Also, as much as he knows he’s in good shape, he doesn’t actually want people ogling his body for a week straight.
Chim gives him an incredibly unsympathetic clap on the shoulder. “Just use those big, brown eyes of yours and wow the judges with your salsa skills and no one will be any the wiser.”
Eddie opens his mouth to argue back when another voice cuts through their conversation.
“She said yes!”
He and Chimney both look up to find Hen running towards them, a beaming grin on her face. “Athena said yes! Better start practicing your poses, Firefighter Diaz.”
Well, shit.
-
Captain Bobby Nash has got a made-for-TV smile that has Eddie understanding why he got the hosting gig over every other fire captain in LA.
“Special Agent Grant,” he says, shaking Athena’s hand with a warmth to his expression that Eddie doesn’t expect.
Athena clearly doesn’t expect it either because she clears her throat as she pulls her hand back. “Captain Nash. This is Agent Diaz.”
Nash redirects his attention to Eddie, extending his hand once again. “Great to meet you. And please, call me Bobby.”
“You too,” Eddie says, flashing a polite smile and following Athena’s lead to take a seat in front of Bobby’s desk.
“So I take it there’s been some progress in the case?” Bobby asks, settling into his chair.
Athena purses her lips, exchanging a look with Eddie. “Not as much as we’d like. Given that we still don’t have a trace on the letter the bomber sent and the LAFD’s reluctance to cancel the competition, we’ve decided to send one of our agents in undercover.”
Bobby’s eyes immediately flick to Eddie and Eddie feels the ridiculous urge to straighten his posture. “I’m guessing that’s where you come in, Agent Diaz?”
“Not that we want to undermine the integrity of the competition but it will be imperative that Eddie makes it to the final,” Athena says. “It’s the best chance we have of catching the bomber if we can’t determine a suspect before then.”
Bobby leans back in his chair, regarding them both with an unreadable expression. Finally, he cracks a smile. “Well, he certainly looks the part.”
“He gets that a lot,” Athena snorts and Eddie ducks his head to hide the heat in his cheeks. It’s bad enough when it’s Hen and Chim ribbing him; he didn’t actually think Athena ever overheard them.
“Which firehouse is he representing though?” Bobby asks. “All of the contestants have already been chosen.”
Without missing a beat, Athena hands over a file that Eddie knows contains the fake details of his new identity. “Apparently the 133’s entry came down with an awful bout of food poisoning.”
Bobby accepts the manila folder with a faint smirk. “Well, that’s a shame.”
-
“Diaz. Diaz, do you read me? Over.”
Eddie rolls his eyes as he steps onto the bus ready to ship the contestants to the opening luncheon. “Yes, Chim,” he mutters under his breath. “I can hear you; stop yelling.”
“Remember to smile, Eddie.” That’s Hen.
How Athena thought they were the two best suited to oversee this, he’ll never understand.
He scans the length of the bus, looking for an empty seat. The whole place is overrun with burly men in too tight t-shirts talking animatedly to each other. It takes him a second to realise one of the men in question is waving at him.
He’s got curly hair and a golden retriever-esque eagerness to his smile. “Edmundo?” he asks. “From the 133, right?”
Eddie clears his throat and rearranges his face into a smile as he makes his way to the empty seat. Though calling it an empty seat feels generous when the firefighter all but shoves himself against the window to make room.
“How’d you know who I was?” he asks, genuinely curious. They only finalised the details of Eddie’s position in the competition yesterday and they made sure to leave any of his information off the official competition website.
“Oh I did a little deep dive on the other contestants but you were the only one who didn’t have a picture so I figured it had to be you.” He shrugs with an affable charm before offering Eddie a hand. “I’m Evan Buckley, with the 118. Everyone calls me Buck though.”
“He’s cute,” Hen says in his ear.
“Like a puppy,” Chim adds.
Eddie ignores them and shakes his hand. “Uh, you can call me Eddie,” he greets. Changing his last name was necessary; he refuses to go by Edmundo for the next week. It’s only then that he clocks the station number Buck said. “You’re part of Nash’s team.”
“Yeah,” Buck says, beaming with pride. “Bobby’s the best captain ever. You know some of these guys have it out for me because they think he’s gonna play favourites even though he’s not a judge. He’s just the host. But whatever, it’s not a big deal.”
The dejected look that creeps onto Buck’s face suggests it very much is a big deal even if he won’t admit it. Eddie feels a pang of sympathy. The guy seems harmless, even with all the rippling muscles. Then again, he’s not surprised a competition this testosterone-fuelled has people acting territorial.
“They just want an excuse for when you beat them in the first round,” Eddie says, mostly to fill the silence but also to get this Buck guy to stop looking so downtrodden.
He definitely doesn’t expect the way Buck’s whole face lights up in awe.
“You think I’ve got a shot at making it to the finals?”
The earnest hopefulness in Buck’s voice catches Eddie off guard and Hen and Chimney in his ear don’t help.
“Aww Eddie’s making friends!”
“Forget friends! Eddie, he’s cute; keep flirting with him.”
Eddie bites down on the urge to tell them to fuck off and makes himself smile at Buck instead. “’Course you do. Some of these guys are lucky they even made it this far.”
Truthfully, Eddie hasn’t even taken the time to look at anyone else on the bus all that much yet but the words tumble out of his mouth without permission. And in the face of Buck’s delighted grin, he can’t find it in himself to take them back.
“Thanks, man,” Buck says bashfully. “Hey, you have anyone to share a room with at the hotel yet?”
“Please tell me there’s only gonna be one bed,” Hen squawks gleefully in his ear.
“Uh I don’t know. Are they assigned or-?”
“They figured since most of us know each other we could pair up however we want but- um…” Buck trails off, making it clear no one has offered to share with him and well, it seems like he knows a lot about the other contestants. That could be good for Eddie. To get information and close the case. Obviously.
“Yeah, man. We can share.”
“Awesome!” Buck declares, slumping more comfortably in his seat and bumping his shoulder –probably accidentally – against Eddie’s. The bus gets moving then and Eddie takes the opportunity to scope out some of the other contestants.
It’s unlikely their suspect is another firefighter but not impossible.
“So how come I’ve never seen you at a scene before?”
Eddie blinks, redirecting his attention to Buck who’s looking at him curiously.
“Oh uh, I just transferred in the last couple of months.”
“From where?” Buck’s expression doesn’t look suspicious and Eddie has to remind himself not every conversation with a stranger needs to be an interrogation.
“Um, El Paso,” he says, immediately cringing on the inside. This man does not need to know any of his real life personal details.
But Buck only smiles again. “Cool. I’ll have to look out for you on calls from now on.”
And it’s not said flirtatiously or anything like that but Buck looks bashful again and Chimney is cackling his ear about how, “Eddie’s got a fan,” and Eddie’s stomach does a strange, traitorous flip.
But this is fine.
Everything is fine.
It’s just-
It’s going to be a long week.

Sexy Mall Santa
some old man loving for the lovely @antidotesprout ! happy holidays!
❄️❄️❄️
Nanu could remember few times he’d felt more annoyed than this very moment. Sure, he lived each day in a perpetual state of annoyance, but rarely did it grow to such high degrees. He felt similar to a boiler already steaming, but starting to scream in the moment’s before it blew.
The only thing keeping him from blowing was the warm presence at his side. Despite the heavy (and cheap) red coat he was wearing, Nanu could feel Lehua shifting her weight side to side, chuckling at whatever antics the Team Skull grunts were up to as they ran around the manor. Her calm demeanor felt like a salve on his fried nerves.
That is, until Guzma called for “Santy” to sit his ass on the throne to start hearing about the kids’ Christmas wishes.
Lehua laughed, low and warm. Nanu fought the heat on his face, already tired of this, and pulled his beard up over his face. The grunts gathered around, watching as he sat on the throne, Lehua at his side, his elfish assistant.
One boy pointed at him. “Hey! Ain’t that-”
The girl next to him smacked his hand, hard. “Shut up! You want presents or not, dumbass?”
“Swearin’ ain’t gettin’ you on the nice list!” The boy snapped back, cradling his now reddened hand to his chest.
Nanu sighed heavily. This was going to be a long day.
Luckily for him, most of the grunts didn’t want to sit on his lap, and those who did didn’t stick around for long under his unamused glare. The crowd dwindled down slowly, soon racing off to do other things once Lehua had all the wishes recorded in a notebook for future reference.
“Nice job.” She complimented as the last few grunts ran off to tell Guzma about their new brilliant idea of a slide that goes from the top floors to the front yard. “You didn’t look half as constipated towards the end there.”
“Shut up.” Nanu grumbled, pulling his itchy beard off at last. “I’m not doing that again. You be Santa next year. Or Mrs. Claus. Whatever.”
A hand drew along his shoulder. “Mrs. Claus? What are you offering, old man?” Nanu shuddered a little as the hand slowly slid down his chest, warm through the shitty costume fabric. “Hm. . . maybe we should go back to your place and open a few early Christmas presents, yeah?”
Before Nanu could reply, loud gagging filled the room. Some grunts lingering in the doors laughed and faked more gagging, only to freeze when Lehua and Nanu both fixed them with deadly stares. They ran off, and Nanu gave another sigh, rubbing his temple.
“Yeah.” He eventually said, rising to his feet. Lehua cocked a brow, but didn’t resist Nanu dragging her by the arm towards the door. “Let’s go. I got a Christmas wish, and I want it granted right now. I deserve it.”
Lehua laughed again. “Alright, Nick. Does that mean I get a turn to sit in your lap?”
“And then some.”

seven sentence sunday
tagged by @diazsdimples @theotherbuckley @hippolotamus @daffi-990 💖💖
after waaay too long - the alive shannon fic is baaaack! my beloved <3 finally got through a scene I was stuck at (more or less, it'll get improved when I edit lol) and made quite a bit of progress! so here's a few sentences from the ladder truck bombing! (Buck's POV has been fighting me so hard, Eddie's is always easier bc he just takes over and does his thing, and Buck apparently doesn't wanna cooperate with me lol) this is very rough and needs lots of editing - but at least I'm finally making progress so here it is 🤣
prev snippet
___
It all happens so quickly he barely remembers the actual explosion. But he knows that there’s a split second, somewhere between sitting in the ladder truck, and lying on the ground, covered in blood, ears ringing, in excruciating pain and unable to move his leg – there’s a second between all that where he genuinely thinks he’s going to die. That’s it, the end, without so much as a chance to say goodbye to Maddie, to Bobby, to Hen and Chim, to- to Eddie and Christopher. To anyone he loves. For a second he’s convinced he’ll never get to talk to any of them again, that he won’t get to talk to Bobby, eat his delicious cooking during a family dinner, that he won’t get teased by Hen and Chim for something dumb he does for a hundredth time in a week. That he won’t get to see his sister heal and find happiness and love again, that he won’t get to see Chimney treating her like she deserves, like Buck knows he will. He’s scared he won’t get to hang out with Eddie, the best friend he’s ever had, that the short time they had together was all he’ll ever get. That he won’t get the privilege Eddie’s already granting him of watching Christopher grow up, of being there for him whenever he’d need him. A split second, and he thinks his life is ending, that’s it for Evan Buckley, leaving this world forever, not even leaving a mark behind, probably getting forgotten by everyone but his family, sooner or later even them. For a second he thinks, maybe it’s okay, maybe it’s better that it’s him than anyone else.

Thank you my beloveds! 💖
I swear I am so close to finishing first son au, I can practically taste it, but I am admittedly breaking my heart a little on the journey, so uh, have this
Buck leaves Chimney in the living room, turning on his heel and walking towards the bathroom.
Silent. Careful. A roaming ghost only there because of unfinished business.
Everything around him goes fuzzy, or maybe it’s him that is blurring, his edges no longer defined or corporeal, stretched too thin by his devastation, now just a tormented thing that isn’t whole because his real body is still in the waiting room at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital, caught in limbo, reaching for the heaven of Eddie’s embrace as he’s dragged down by the hell-crafted impossibility of living without him.
No amount of repeating Bobby’s words, Eddie is stable. He made it through surgery. They think he’s gonna pull through, does anything to reassure him.
Buck blinks and he’s in the shower.
Water slides down his body, a wet, sluggish crawl that adapts to the shape of him, its touch not as smooth or as clinging as Eddie’s. It drags away oil and dirt and blood, cleansing his body, but Buck doesn’t feel clean, not in the way he does when Eddie smiles at him or laughs at something he said or showers his son with praise and affection.
The water is tinted red.
Paler than what spilled across cobblestone.
Thinner than what sank into Buck’s skin.
Heavy droplets pound against his face, the spray relentless as it tries to wash away a stain that is stuck in Buck like gnarled roots of a gigantic tree, immovable and eternal.
The world turns to static.
Droplets of crimson heat splattering across his face and neck. Smearing. Caressing. Falling. Metallic. Thick. Holy life stricken, sent to another. An aberration of communion. Communion he took unwilling and undeserving, damning his soul for all eternity.
Everything shimmers back into focus. Warm water and pale grey tile.
Buck watches the clear water possessed with pink strains move down his body and splash down against the tile, rushing towards the drain, swirling, twirling, dancing before it disappears.
Reality wobbles again, what is real and in front of him twisting until it resembles choppy, blaring images that are forever imprinted on his eyelids.
Stickiness of stolen life pooling on skin and fabric. Red so dark it’s black seeping into cracks between the cobblestones. Life leaking out and reaching for Buck. Hurtling towards him even as it fades away. Helpless and frozen, standing still, already wishing he could drain his own heart dry of blood so that red life would stream in Eddie’s veins once again, just like the poet Keats said.

Favorite Madney moments? I'm still emotional from 7x06,so I'd love to hear other people's favorites. Also, your blog's really cool <3.
Madney, my beloved! 🥺💖💖💖
Is it cheating to say all of Boston? Because ALL of Boston. From "I got out of the ocean for you" to "6 months. 6 years. Neither of us could ever forget you." Just ughhh. Wreck meeeee.
And then their trademark twirls? Classic.
The proposal! "Howard Han, will you marry us?" Maddie holding Jee while she proposed after the fiasco with the ring.
Chimney knowing her so well during the hostage situation to know that her saying "I love you" at the time meant something was wrong.
"We're pregnant." And the hug that follows.
Maddie dragging him to bed when she's feeling frisky while pregnant. 😂😂😂
All of their hospital scenes make me cry. After Doug. Jee's birth. The wedding.
And of course 7x06 was literally everything. How Maddie jumped straight in and did everything in her power to find him. How he wanted to get back to her. To both her and Jee.
[shakes you] THEY INVENTED LOVE, OKAY? ALL THE SCENES ARE MY FAVORITE. ALL OF THEMMMM.

seven(ehhh) sentence sunday
tagged by @lesbiandiaz my beloved 💖
Christopher had texted Buck around 4pm to tell him that he’s going to Denny’s for the weekend. Buck already knew this, had known for two weeks now because he’d been sitting beside Eddie when he and Hen had set it up. By the time they’d finished talking, Buck had already planned out his and Eddie’s entire newly free Friday night.
What Buck didn’t know was that Eddie also had a playdate.
With Buck’s sister.
Buck doesn’t mean to go missing.
Technically, he’s never actually missing. He’s simply unfindable to about 99% of his family for a number of hours. It isn’t his fault that they jumped to conclusions. And, really, they could’ve called Chimney. He’s been with him the whole time! This definitely isn’t Buck’s fault. If anyone should be blamed, it’s Maddie. If she hadn’t stolen Eddie from him, then drastic measures wouldn’t have had to be taken.
There’s a perfectly reasonable explanation for everything that’s happened tonight. If they’d take a second to listen, then Buck could tell them and they could all go home. Instead, he and Chimney are handcuffed to Bobby and Athena’s kitchen chairs, and everyone is arguing over each other. It’s making Buck’s head spin.
“Do you think Athena is gonna arrest us?” Buck asks, lolling his head towards Chimney.
Chimney whips his head in his direction, eyes wide as his mouth drops open a little. “I won’t go to jail.” Chimney stomps his foot, trying to get someone’s attention. “You’ll never take me alive!”
“Chim,” Buck whispers. “Chim, they’ve already got us.”

Could you maybe tell me about Meet Me In The Dark please? 👀👀👀 (asking while pretending to be normal but still silently vibrating out of my skin bc of sheer excitement)
Also it was really hard to choose just one from your wips but i am being very brave about it 😔🙏

Lilla beloved! And anon beloved!
This is the angsty, whumpy sequel to the restaurant front au. I haven't worked on it in a while because other things actually have deadlines, but it is still my treasured wip lol. Basically that 'verse's version of 2x13 where Doug kidnaps Maddie and Buck, and then has the entire 118 crime family after him
Doug relaxes his grip on Buck’s throat, moving his hand down to pat Buck’s shoulder amiably. “The first thing I want you to do is put down your bag.” Somehow she manages to nod. Making sure her movements are telegraphed and deliberate, she puts her bag down on the kitchen counter. Her fingers itch to reach out for her phone – she had her text thread with Chimney open, it would only be four keystrokes to send him a simple SOS – but she’s not willing to risk Buck’s life taking that chance. Chimney will be over soon. He’ll figure out something happened. Until then, Maddie just has to keep herself and Buck alive.

911 for the fandom questions!
omg thank you! 💖 i was thinking this for a while 😂 overthinking is my talent lol
favorite male character: buck, my most beloved <3 i wanted to punch him for about 2 episodes at the beginning, but we got over that pretty quickly and ever since i’ve been a buck girl through and through.
favorite female character: maddie! she got me since the first time i saw her, and all her arcs have been incredible. gotta love a big sister.
least favorite character: hmmm well. there’s quite a few i obviously hated bc they were just horrible people, but that was their only purpose and we don’t get to see them that much anyway lol so, honestly? i’m going to say it’s claudette. sucks that she died the way she did, but she was overall a very unlikable person. she was pretty much just a bully to may and none of what happened to her in the past excuses her so-above-everything behavior. she was just awful.
favorite ship: bobby x athena! as kids nowadays say, they match each other’s freak lol. but i also love maddie x chimney very much. and buddie.
favorite friendship: BUDDIE. listen. even if we left it to be platonic no, they’re in love, they’re simply a perfect match, and that is why they would work as a couple, and i don’t wanna crowd this post with this so let’s leave it there lol. ACTUALLY, i want to add something else. bobby and michael’s friendship was something great to see and i loved their shenanigans. a truly blended family!
favorite quote: i’m actually kinda bad with quotes, but the whole “because, evan, you came in here the other day and you said you thought it would have been better if it had been you who was shot. you act like you’re expendable. but you’re wrong” is a big contender.
worst character death: kevin, absolutely. i know it technically happens pre-show, but still. the repercussions keep haunting the narrative.
this made me so happy you have no idea moment: this question has made me realize that 911 is usually more heartwrenching/happy sobs for me than anything else lol but right at the top of my head? any and all happy buck and maddie moments. i’m a sucker for sibling storylines <3
saddest moment: omg i don’t know. there’s been a few calls that have been too heartbreaking, but my brain has kinda blocked them bc too depressing lol. from the main characters, though? i think the “the devil you know” episode, with all the flashbacks to tanya kingston’s case and all we learn about it.
favorite location: call me basic, but the firehouse lol also athena’s house RIP

911 for the ask game!! 💕
thank youuuuu 💖💖
Favourite character: buck, my most beloved (and all the minor characters: terry, eli, elaine my loves <3)
Funniest character: either chimney or bobby (and also eddie's top-tier one liners)
Best-looking character: also buck, but also maddie (i'm a simple bisexual)
3 favourite ships: it has to be the main 4 - buddie, bathena, madney, henren
Least favourite character: ooooh this is tough, i didn't really care about lena bosko
Least favourite ship: probably ali/buck because ali didn't have time to be great (but she's also my girl - see the bisexual point for reference)
Reason why I watch it: the brainrot is real, it got its hooks into me and now i can't escape
Why I started watching it: it was my 'i need to watch something as a distraction from uni work' tv show, i was saw @patroclusdefencesquad mention that Ocean's 911 was one of her favourite episodes so I went and watched that, then started reading fic and got addicted

I thought I was going to read chapter 18 as my bedtime story later but I was unable to resist and ahhhh!!!!! That whole party was iconic, I love the firefam 💜 Eddie feeling alone all night only for you to make Buck bring an uninvited guest?! The intervention!!! Chimney reading the intervention script but still managing to be hilarious AND sincere 💙💙💙 Ravi the reluctant normal one finally snapping 🤣 Hen and Maddie are both Buck’s sisters and he knows it!!! AND THE ENDING THE HEAVENS ARE SINGING (they’re gonna use this fic as the example in how to write slow burns classes because it is THEEEE slow burn of all time) And that final sentence, I’m tucking that one in next to my heart and keeping it, thank you 💖💖
CLAIRE, MY BELOVED! 🥹🥹🥹🥹 The party and the firefam shenanigans were some of the most fun! CHIMNEY AND RAVI, AM I RIGHT?? 🤣 I did think the most fitting thing for Ravi was to give him a boyfriend who was alllllll about the drama. And of course he had to be the one who cracked under the epic mess that is Buck and Eddie's "unrequited" drama. He is so tired! We are all so tired!
Gosh. Talk about a slow burn. 🫠🫠🫠 I'm still screaming from the 170K of it all.
I'm so happy you enjoyed it! Thank you so so much! I adore you and I'm sending you all the love! 💕💜💛💚🌈🎉💕🤗
