The said male would not respond but a soft raspy grunt followed by a hum. A way of informing you to stay quiet and relax on him…you knew him too well to be able to understand his language of communication.

Theory: a thought about Melly's port-wine stain birthmark! I wonder if the 6 cobblestones (the nodules that appear in some people with port-wine stain marks) reference the version of the story where Persephone had to eat 6 pomegranate seeds so she could remain tied to the Underworld for 6 months?

If this is a deliberate design choice (and not simply a coincidence), then I really love it!!! It's so creative. She has quite a handful of parallels to Persephone, which is how this thought sprung... with me trying to figure out whether her nodules formed a constellation or something of the sort. There were no constellations that formed a similar shape, so I thought about what else could the dots represent? Seeing "6" and pinkish dots reminded me of Persephone eating the pomegranate seeds, haha. Oh, and we also have "Professor of Zoology and Botany"...

I understand that the games we play are possible outcomes of the ACTUAL games that the survivors played in the canon story but WHY

I know that Alice is the Little Girl but what does that even mean?? And her and Orpheus are childhood friends right? And they got separated after some fire?? But also BOTH of their parents owned the manor at some point??? WHAT TF

NOT TO MENTION THERES LIKE 2 DIFFERENT ORPHEUS’???? THE ONE IN THE STORY AND THE ONE IN THOSE FILES WHO WENT INSANE????

I wonder if much of the new Lore for character relations is a mis-translation since a lot of it doesn't quite add up to what's been established, i.e. Frederick, Weepy, and Professor's ages.

I think it's only fitting that I start this blog with an explanation of what the basic IdentityV lore is. . .

I feel like the best way to start is going to be just making a post covering all the bases of the general IdentityV lore and what the game in general is about. So, light lore if you will. When the game starts, you play as the ex-novelist and Detective (Orpheus.) It's also important to note that Orpheus suffers from amnesia with heavy memory gaps where he doesn't remember certain periods of his life or much of his childhood. Orpheus is tasked to locate Mr.Reichenbach's missing daughter. James Reichenbach is a man who has claimed to be Orpheus's number one fan and biggest most loyal reader. In the beginning he sends Orpheus this long winded really sad letter with a photograph and some money, begging him to find his daughter who is missing.

Orpheus obviously accepts this deal and it brings him to the doors of the infamous Oletus Manor. When he's inside of the Oletus Manor, he finds all of these strangely written diaries, all of which are different accounts of their stays at the manor. Through reading these diary entries Orpheus realizes that horrible things had happened at that manor where people died and risked their life in these games for whatever it was that they were, "promised" upon winning. The more and more Orpheus investigates the manor and looks around he begins to have flashbacks and hallucinates having horrible reactions to his surroundings and being there, leading everyone to believe that he may have had more to his past than what we are initially told.

He reads finding out about what is referred to as, "the manor games", these games refer to the canon 5 player layout of the games that took place before Orpheus arrived at the manor as an investigator. Each of these games was played with 5 contestants.

The manor would only house 5 people at a time, each group was put in different housing conditions and rules and they were given drugs that heightened their mental states before they were put onto the maps where the killing games would then take place.

Those who lived would be passed onto the next game and so on and so forth.

The reason that the characters are ragdolls and everything is in a stuffed animal form, is because the games we play as players are simulations with the dolls of the survivors of potential games that could have actually happened.

As more birthday letters, and character day content is released we slowly learn more and more and are able to piece together who were at the manor at the same time and who participated in what games and what happened to them! So this is just the basic lore as sort of a foundation layer to the IdentityV lore. :D. I hope this was decently explained and...executed haha.

The way Orpheus talks about Edgar feels so reminiscent of the way a lot of the fandom talks about him. Orpheus tries to dictate all of Edgar’s actions to very specific moments in his life. His mother and Ella’s deaths, Sarai, his giftedness. It all makes Edgar sound like a creature of tragedy, as if woe is something he can’t escape because it is inherently tied to Edgar’s existence. But when you compare it to the way Edgar describes what happened in his own words in his 3rd letter, this is false. Edgar attributes the bad things in his life as a reflection of the culture that he grew up around, and by extension has the autonomy to leave it. He can escape the tragedy that follows him by leaving the aristocracy, which he does.

When you get rid of Edgar’s ability to escape suffering, it makes it consume him. He has to suffer by nature, but I don’t think this is true. Given how hope and a reverence for life are things that Edgar constantly brings up, especially in his final deduction where he says life is odd, yet pleasant.

Like I said, I feel like this reflects the way a lot of people look at Edgar, even people who like him. They strip him of his happiness or hopeful moments, and when those portrayals are more blatant and unable to be talked around, they wave if off as a mischaracterization on Netease’s part or a character alteration to make Edgar fit into a certain storyline. They don’t respect his happiness, friendliness, or hope as actual facets of his personality. This ends up underselling his entire character because his goal minus the painting metaphors is basically rekindling his love of life and finding beauty in the world outside of his abusive/neglectful home. If you make him unable to find hope, he’s fighting for nothing and won’t gain a thing. Especially if you characterize him as feeling that way.

This is also REALLY important for the overall story and message of game 5 in my opinion

I'm very curious about what Norton's 6th B-day letter is going to be.

So far, the 6th letter has always been an investigation field note written by Alice (as confirmed in Fiona's latest letter). They are arguably one of the richest pieces of character lore we have so far. Probably my fav installment in IDV lore. We're not entirely sure at what point in time these notes were written. Was it prior to Alice entering the game? During? After?

Furthermore, it seems like the incentive of writing these notes was the subject going missing (in most of the cases), and, eventually, the ties to the manor. But here's the thing, Norton wasn't a missing person case by the time Alice entered the manor. So will his 6th letter still be an investigation field note? If so, what would be the incentive to investigate Norton? The Golden Cave incident? Most likely, but we're not sure how much Alice got to look into the case before she switched focus to the manor. She didn't get to interview Norton before that, but how much does she already know about him?

I guess the same thing goes with the other characters in AoM. What will their 6th letters be??

Another neat little detail is the lack of experiment files on this group because they were the last participants before the game collapsed. There were literally no one there to write them, thus they don't have them.
