Student protests in Serbia and my role in them

On the first of november a horrible tragedy shocked my country and all the people in it. 15 people (16 as of three days ago) lost their lives when a concrete slab they were standing under collapsed and crushed them. That concrete slab was part of the awning to a recently renovated and reopened train station in Novi Sad.

To anyone looking at the case for longer then a few minutes it soon became clear that this wasn't just a freak accident, but instead a sign of deeply rooted corruption, of greedy and shameless politicians once again turning a blind eye on issues and stuffing their pockets full of taxpayer money and EU provided funds. When the first group of students stood up and held 15 minutes of silence for the people we lost they were beaten, harassed and arrested. It was clear to us that the ruling regime already decided that we would stay silent on this, and move on in the matter of days. Then one right after the other faculties including my own joined a student blockade. No lectures and no exams, not until 4 very simple demands are met. 1) Release all the documents in regards to the renovation project to the public 2) Release all the students who had been wrongfully apprehended 3) Arrest and charge all the people who assaulted all the peaceful student protesters 4) increase the budget for all state universities by 20% My faculty since then has been in blockade for a 100 days. My friends, fellow students and I have been fighting practically every day. Organizing and protesting, trying our best to keep our own spirits up and tell eachother that we can do this. We can prevail. These three months have been some of the most exhausting, heart wrenching yet beautiful months of my life. I have seen people finally stand up and hold their head high, and I have had a chance to scream and cry for all the frustration and anger that has built up in me for the 22 years that I've been alive. Serbian students, professors, teachers, and other essential workers have been harassed, targeted and doxxed for speaking up for what is right. On the 15th of march we held the biggest protest in Serbian history, with probably around 1 million people on the streets. That is 1/6th of our country's population. During the 15 minutes of silence held, the police used an unidentified device against, again I repeat, peaceful protesters. By all the accounts of the people present and affected, and some expert opinions, it is very possible that a sound canon was used. When accused of using an illegal weapon for no other reason then to harm his own people, our president (Local piece of shit, ego maniac and the face of corruption in this country) Aleksandar Vučić stated that that's made up nonsense. That Serbia does not own such weapons. A day later the story changed, yes we do own them, interior minister said, but theyre in warehouses and they have never been unpackaged or used. Are you surprised when a day later this photo was revealed? The exact weapon originally suggested, parked right behind the Parliament building where the protests were held.

There is so much I could say. I have impressions enough to last me a good few years.. I dont know who may end up reading this but I just wanted to share a glimpse into my real life off of my blog. Thank you, whoever got to the end of this.

okay. I think we all deserve a crack fic concept this march. Imagine this: jaytim, but it’s an ides of march AU. Jason is Caesar, Tim is Mark Antony, etc. Very dramatic, right? Jason gets to die tragically, betrayed and abandoned by those he trusted (👀) Tim gets to monologue about how caesar(jason) was a just and honorable man. He takes up his mantle and cause. cinematic tragic parallels.

Except. EXCEPT. This is ACTUALLY a jaytim theater troupe AU, and the play they’re doing is none other that Shakespeare’s Julius Caesar. Jason and Tim are acting rivals in the troupe (like not enemies, but neck and neck) andJason is sooooo mad that Tim got the role of Mark Antony, because now Tim gets to deliver the Monologue™️, and Jason gets to have SO FEW lines and get stabbed. Anyways, as is tradition for theater troupes, they end up banging at the afterparty or something. (next summer the troupe does hamlet and jason and tim get cast as hamlet and horatio. the homoerotic subtext is thru the stage roof on this one.)

I love this concept. I can see the opening of it perfectly, written as though the events of the play are actually happening... slapping my response under a cut because [deep sigh] it got long:

Full-on descriptions of Jason's Roman funeral and his bloodless lips that Tim sorrowfully gazes down at before he turns to the assembled people gathered around Jason's tomb. Then he opens his mouth and starts giving a speech that sounds exceedingly familiar and Shakespearean. The poetically described funeral then follows the rest of the scene line by line from the play and we start to go 'now wait a second'-- and then the audience claps as the curtains close on the scene. It was a play all alonggg

Cut to the after party. I'm making pretend that the after party is like, at the theater and not a secondary location because it's fun. Jason takes his congratulations with a charming smile, but he is definitely seething inside as he watches Tim be showered in accolades. His friends on the set see right through him (I'm thinking a mix up from the usual suspects - maybe Kon or Cassie who are also friends with Tim but became friends with Jason during production lolol and possibly Jaime or Kyle Rayner in addition) and tease and roll their eyes at him, and get him another beer.

Tim and Jason have a banter-filled conversation later in the night, at that sweet spot when the party is still going strong, the music is loud, and folks are starting to show off (stage fighting and improv'd dances abound) loose with alcohol and the triumph of a successfully wrapped production. They snipe at each other with backhanded compliments, and things are getting heated-- until the guys doing four-man floor-jousting (who the hell busted into the props room--) crash into them.

Tim gets doused in what remains of Jason's drink, Jason gets slathered in nacho cheese (neither of them were eating nachos) and their argument fizzles spectacularly as they help each other up, snickering at each other and at themselves. They walk together to their dressing room to clean up-- they both still have a change of clothes in there.

(OF COURSE THEY SHARED A DRESSING ROOM. THE BELLIGERENT SEXUAL TENSION WAS BOTH UNACKNOWLEDGED AND OFF THE CHARTS.)

As they walk, their banter smooths out-- less defensive, more genuine:

Tim: I thought I was gonna throw up on opening night, I was so nervous Jason: are you fucking for real, I thought you were trying to psych me out T: no! Watching-- uh. J: yeah? Come on. Don't leave me hanging T, sheepish: ...watching you run drills calms me down J, sputtering a laugh: flattering as that is, Drake, respectfully? That's the gayest shit I've ever heard. And we did Kinky Boots last year T, laughing as he shoves him: shut up, just forget I said it, okay? J: absolutely not, I'm gonna remember this forever.

They get to the dressing room still laughing at each other, and get changed. Only, this time, there isn't the rush of scene changes or hair and makeup, or anyone else who wants them out in ten (thank you, ten). There's nothing to distract them from each other's proximity, and everything that's been slowly boiling all season, ramping up all night, comes to a peak. One second, Tim's peeling himself out of his wet dress shirt, the next, Jason's right there, and he's looking at Tim's mouth.

"You've got," Jason says, cutting himself off to swipe a thumb over the corner of Tim's mouth, like he's just fixing his makeup, like he's done for any number of his stage partners before. Tim thinks Jason did it for him just last week. "There." Tim's mouth falls open anyway, his tongue catching against Jason's thumb. He tastes cheese dip, and the salty drag of Jason's skin. Jason pauses with Tim's face in his hands, holding Tim in place. Tim fights the urge to swallow as saliva gathers at the site of intrusion; as back and forth, Jason slowly smears his bottom lip wet. "...there," Jason says again, low and wanting. Tim leans in and kisses him.

...aaaand then they bang in the dressing room like they've low-key been wanting to do all season, glory hallelujah amen 🙏🙏🙏

(Next year as Hamlet and Horatio they keep ad libbing a Lot of touchy feely stage direction and the director does Nothing to stop them lmfao their chemistry is bonkers and it's getting butts in seats 😌)

It's Wild

He started it. He was impersonating hylian royalty as stupidly as he could, and Wind took offense. Babey pirate threatened to stab, Wild pretended he was a "angry official threatening the ruler's life" and Legend jumped in to offer some knives (stage props, don't ask how he has them) to help in the "assassination attempt".

Now they are chasing Wild down and trying to stab him. He will "die" a very dramatic death :)

Twilight is Brutus. he just wanted to play along, but Wild IS playing up his "betrayal" to the extreme LOL

Time is basking in the chaos. he has no regrets. He IS encouraging this behavior.

Warriors is having a crisis over pretend regicide. Sky, on the other hand, is encouraging regicide.

Four's just here for the chance to "stab" Wild.

Hyrule's got no clue what's happening, but he's enjoying it, so... *shrug*

Shrimp and Pip:

Pip tends to fall into a natural caring role with kids, while Shrimp is used to being the eldest. They don't get along the best at the start, but once Shrimp comes around, he can appreciate having an elder brother figure to rely on (and annoy of course).

Shrimp and Steel:

Steel doesn't particularly have any sibling-ly instincts and happens to meet the others at a bad time, so initially they're a bit closed off. Shrimp worms his way into their heart through a lot of mischief, and their banter loses its bite eventually. The two squabble a lot, but work together very well and see each other as equals. It wasn't the best decision to introduce him to Ravio, though...

hey! if you are going to the dallas or woodlands, tx show - listen up!

I don’t fault fall out boy (or their managers) for this but I can’t help but emphasize how stupid it is to book an outdoor show in texas for the end of june!! people outside of texas truly don’t understand how fucking hot it gets this time of year — and unless you experience it for yourself, you won’t get it.

temperatures right now are above 100 degrees Fahrenheit and "feel" much hotter than that due to humidity and UV index.

if you are going to the woodland or dallas show this week, please, please be careful!!!

as a lifelong texan who has endured this hellish heat for my whole life, here are some very important tips for surviving the summer weather (& not passing out):

be sure to hydrate days before the event (starting tonight!) drink mostly water, & if you have them, add those little hydration iv packets as well!

I would highly, highly recommend that you don’t drink alcohol at the event. alcohol is a diuretic and will dehydrate you!!! I would really recommend only drinking water (no diet coke, soda, or other beverages with caffeine, this is a diuretic too!)

check if your venue allows you to bring food & drink (I have heard the dos equis pavilion is allowing snacks! & outside water) & if they do — BRING THEM

eat before the show!! a full meal, not just nibbles of food. eat something rich in all major food groups: carbs, proteins and fats! (most people I have encountered pass out from a mixture of not eating & dehydration)

be conscious of your clothing — wear light colored, breathable fabric like cotton or linen (it’s going to be too fucking hot to make a fashion statement. TRUST ME!)

get to the venue later than you normally would. people in GA, I really really would advise against spending all afternoon in the sun, camping out. if you want to wait in the parking lot, do so in the comfort of your air conditioned car!! (i promise you, getting barricade at a fall out boy show is not worth passing out)

wear a hat!! & bring sunnies (sunglasses) if you are going to be outside before the sun sets

this part of texas DOES NOT cool down at night, so be prepared!!

dicks sporting goods & five below sell those cooling towels for under five bucks, please get one!!

most importantly, listen to your body!!! if you are feeling woozy, ill, lightheaded, nauseous or otherwise NOT RIGHT -- sit down, get help from staff, and get out of the heat!!!!

I’m not kidding when I say that it’s dangerous this time of year to be somewhere outdoors without air conditioning. we, texans, don’t go outside in the summer for a reason!!
