i do think bela is sympathetic but up until she reveals her sympathetic qualities (her selling her soul and as a result she's living her life as luxuriously and dangerously as possible because her time is almost up) dean and sam have no reason to be sympathetic towards her. also i think the writers made a mistake in not revealing the sympathetic aspects sooner because it means the misogynists were Relentless about her in addition to her not being that likeable (i like her but still)

Bela actively presents herself in a negative light—as someone deeply selfish and uncaring. She avoids sharing anything that would lend her sympathy (and that's fair enough—it isn't anyone's business) but not just that—she tells them that every bad thing she ever did was for money even though that's not exactly true. The thing is, she's not exactly being dishonest when she repeatedly says she doesn't care about other people? She IS selfish and uncaring, whether she was sexually abused as a child does not or has a demon deal to worry about or not doesn't change that. She steals not to feed herself but to support a lavish lifestyle and for the thrill of it, and in an effort to trade favors to try and beat the clock on her demon deal (other information she omits). She steals not just from rich people but from Sam and Dean who are incredibly poor (and she knows this—she comments on them squatting in a dirty house in one episode and she looks down on them for not using their knowledge to enrich themselves). The bigger deal is that on multiple occasions, she enacts various plans that lead to other people being murdered/nearly murdered, and she does not care. It isn't a cover—other people's lives literally do not matter to her in general. Her past abuse frames her actions, but it doesn't excuse her getting other people killed for personal gain, offering the boys up to be killed for personal gain (which gives them every right to dislike her?), and finally trying to assassinate them herself for personal gain (after they saved her life and helped her with a heist).

Do I think she was iconic for all the shit she pulled, and do I wish she had either not died in the first place or returned as a demon to cause more problems for Sam and Dean? FUCK YEAH! She should have been there to the bitter end. She should have challenged Crowley for the throne of hell. She should have stolen and cheated MORE. She should have had a redemption arc. She should have used Sam's horniness about her to trick him. She should have stolen spellbooks from Rowena and sold them and they should have had a knock down drag out fight over it. But it wasn't as if the things Bela did to Sam and Dean were just a misunderstanding. Context or not, she earned her reputation in every case where she was regarded negatively, the sole exception being the reasons she killed her parents (which she lies about to frame herself in a particularly negative light because it keeps people away from her). She WAS an asshole to Sam and Dean (SHE TRIED TO KILL THEM) and they had every right to be mad about it! It's just a shame fandom was too lame to appreciate her and she didn't come back to do more crimes.

Diaana Babnicova returns as George, alongside Elliott Rose as Julian, Kit Rakusen as Dick and Flora Jacoby Richardson as Anne. Making up the fifth member of The Famous Five and the gang’s faithful furry friend, is Kip, the Bearded Collie Cross playing Timmy the dog.

SkyShowtime has revealed its upcoming content slate for 2024 and beyond, including the anticipated new series “Landman” from Taylor Sheridan and “The Day of the Jackal” starring Eddie Redmayne.

Landman,” starring Billy Bob Thornton and Demi Moore and described as a “modern-day tale of fortune seeking in the world of oil rigs,” is coming exclusively to the European streaming service later this year. Meanwhile “The Day of the Jackal,” which also stars Lashana Lynch, is a 10-part series adaptation based on Frederick Forsyth’s novel and the subsequent 1973 film that follows a lone assassin (Redmayne) and the MI6 agent (Lynch) determined to hunt him down. The streaming date for “The Day of the Jackal” has yet to be announced.

Callum is easygoing and happy, with a ready grin. He’s one of the friendliest people in the paddock with fans and other drivers alike. Why is no one talking about Kaz's new cane??

When I watched episode eight, I immediately noticed this at the end and assumed there would be posts and theories galore about it. But ig i have to do everything myself >:|

So for the first season and most of the second, Kaz carries a cane with a gold crow topper. This is a sculpted crow head with feather details, a medium-sized beak, and a jewel eye.

But in his last scene (i think), he carries a cane with a completely different, intricately textured shaft, topped with a long-beaked silver crow skull.

This is very interesting and telling for me in terms of his growing character and internal strife at this point in the story! Inej is away, she has refused his advances because of his complete emotional unavailability and lack of a good coping mechanism for his grief and trauma. (Mans needs a therapist stat.) In this scene, he tells a Dreg to start hiring out girls who work at the Menagerie, namely one named Kesh, who Inej mentioned in early season one as her informant for Drussen's (later revealed to actually be Nikolai's) job. He's actually accepting and implementing Inej's advice, which he basically never does, enormous simp that he is. Clearly, he's pining and in his emo boy era (though one could argue he's been this way since day one).

The cane is also silver rather than gold, and I might be reading too much into it, but it could represent his shifting motivation. He's moving away from money, towards what really matters: the friends we make along the way (I'm talking of Inej, of course *Jesper wink*). Though, of course, we still have the Ice Court heist! But the silver and the skull definitely have hidden meanings. Kaz (iconically) told Pekka that when he and Jordie got firepox after being robbed and scammed, they both died. But one of them (Kaz. obviously.) was reborn. I mean, what part of Kaz does not play into his trauma?? He literally got an R tattooed on him. A cane that nods to his past, his rebirth, and his new way of life (such as forcefully removing eyeballs when someone looks at his girl wrong) is completely possible.

Also we've been complaining about the gold cane since day one, so. Maybe someone in props got sick of it. Who knows. Add your ideas!! I'm dumb and I miss things!!! Anyway his new cane is sick as hell and I can't wait to watch him smack people with it in the crows spin-off (keep rewatching s2 so we get it! it sucks ik but that's how it is :|) and look really really cool while doing it.

Kung Fu Panda 4 (2024) review

Jack Black’s new version of “Hit Me Baby One More Time” is great. In all honestly all of Tenacious D’s covers are superb. Their take on “I Think I Love You” for Croods 2 slaps as hard as Will Smith’s palm against Chris Rock’s face. Apologies, I just watched the new Bad Boys trailer so that momentary awards moment has sprung back into my mind.

Plot: After Po is tapped to become the Spiritual Leader of the Valley of Peace, he needs to find and train a new Dragon Warrior, while a wicked sorceress plans to re-summon all the master villains whom Po has vanquished to the spirit realm.

For some reason I presumed Kung Fu Panda 3 was the ending to the trilogy and the story was over. Then again Hollywood wants to keep making more money and this animated franchise has been highly successful for DreamWorks till now, so of course it was only a matter of time. To give them props though, DreamWorks has been on a bit of a hot streak recently with The Bad Guys - a visually-pleasing heist flick; Croods 2 - hilarious riot; this year’s Orion and the Dark - a fun concept with a mind-bending ending; and of course Puss in Boots: The Last Wish which is an animated masterpiece. There, I said it. The Puss in Boots sequel is fantastic and I won’t hear otherwise! As such even though the trailers weren’t showing too much promise, I went into Kung Fu Panda 4 optimistically, hoping it’s not just a needless cash-grab.

Right, yep, it’s a cash-grab through and through. You can tell the writers were really trying to milk some kind of an idea for a plot, and all they could come up with is Po needing to find a new Dragon Warrior in his place. Not the most original concept as is, and one that in the end feels really rushed, and his choice for his replacement is one that feels unsatisfying. The main villain also is really weak. A chameleon voiced by Viola Davis, and though visually the shape-shifting gimmick works really well, narratively this character has hardly anything to do, let alone be in any way intimidating. I recall in one of the previous films the villain was Lord Shen, who was introduced as someone who has killed Dragon Warriors before. What’s the scariest thing this chameleon now does, you may ask? She lightly pushes someone down the stairs. That’s it.

Another rushed aspect of the movie is that many voice actors from the previous films are needlessly ditched either with a lame excuse for their absence, or not giving them any lines and the characters appearing in silence. Like a big selling point in the marketing is that we get to see all the villains from the previous entries come back. A fun idea, however aside from Ian McShane as Tai Lung the other villains only appear as if they’re in a silent movie. Are you telling me that DreamWorks really couldn’t afford to get Gary Oldman to record a couple of lines on his phone and send them over? It’s like if Spider-Man: No Way Home had all the old Spidey villains from previous films come back, but they just stand about silently doing nothing. How crap would that have been? So yes, this really cheapens the movie.

Visually the film looks great. It’s mad to see how the animation has progressed as this series of movies has gone further. Particular attention has been given to the background environments that look gorgeous! Great use of colours and detail. A chase sequence through a city of thieves is a particular eye-popping set piece, that even gives Hans Zimmer the small opportunity to have some fun with the music score during it.

As for the voice cast - Jack Black is a charisma machine! He’s an icon and of course Po is just Jack Black being himself, but he has so much energy in his line delivery that he carries this movie fully on his shoulders. Awkwafina is also in this movie. Look, the reason I’m pointing that out is that if one looks at her filmography since 2019 she’s voiced characters in Little Mermaid, Migration, Kung Fu Panda 4, Bad Guys, SpongeBob: The Movie, Raya and the Last Dragon, The Dark Crystal Netflix series, Angry Birds Movie 2…. That’s so much!! What does she have on these animation studios that they keep hiring her? She’s not the only female voice actor out there. And I’m sorry, she’s not even that great of a voice actress, and I wasn’t a fan of her here either. Dustin Hoffman kind of just lingers about questioning his life, Bryan Cranston and James Hong have some amusing co-dads banter, Ian McShane being back as Tai Lung was lovely, and Ke Huy Quan is the usual ball of excitable energy that he always is.

Unlike Puss in Boots where the wait for the sequel was more than worth it, Kung Fu Panda 4 feels as if the franchise may have run its course and the writers have simply ran out of ideas. There’s a “been there done that” aura surrounding this whole movie, and again it’s not terrible, but more so just passable. There’s nothing new here, simply retreading old territory. I’m sure if you take your kids with you to see it though they’ll probably have a good time. Probably. That “Hit Me Baby One More Time” cover though - hell yeah!
