i had mixed feelings about Takopi’s Original Sin but The Ichinose Family's Deadly Sins is really grabbing me so far with just this first chapter. it definitely already has a leg up on Takopi for not having “the main character uses the world’s worst cutesy verbal quirk” as a major plot point lmao

The Ichinose Family's Deadly Sins & Rug Pulls
Now firstly, I still prefer this chapter to Cipher Academy's first, this is more a personal warning or concern in regards to the long term success and quality of the series.
It's another solid chapter, that shows off more solid art from Taizan5, of which I love their really aggressive room perspectives to be my favorite.
Just how interesting it makes things end up looking really captures me. A nice difference that doesn't have much of anything to do with symbolism or direction, but rather an idiosyncrasy of Taizan5.
Moving on however, we quickly get into the thick of Tsubasa's reintegration at school. And this is the issue with the rug pulling.
As you can see, the class is already reeling from Tsubasa. It's not looks of wariness, but more distaste and avoidance. I wouldn't mind it if it weren't something that happened the chapter previous. We already had the rug pulled out from under us before, and Taizan5's already setting up for the next one.
We see Tsubasa with his "best friend" doing a bunch of stuff before being invited to a welcome back party afterschool. It's not exactly surprising, more like a break from the heavy stuff that's played off as surprising, in my opinion. The content with Tsubasa's friend is very much solid, but feels like it comes off different than it should.
This surprise comes to pass though and ends with Tsubasa humiliated in front of his class, of which there's varying degrees of responses. The bully using Tsubasa's memory loss to make things even worse for them is a solid piece, but it feels like it's played off as too much a surprise to the viewer when it's already been given away a little bit and you know it's coming.
And that's where my concern is. Relying on lighter moments within the dark pieces to provide more contrast just means that you never fall into a fall sense of hope. You're always wondering how it's going to be twisted, how it's going to be used to try and hurt you as a reader, and that makes it pointless. If you see the sun and think, "looks like it's going to rain today", then the sun isn't actually doing its job. To that end, I hope that Taizan5 can lean further into expressing the darker aspects as just dark, and the lighter ones as light. There's a great story here, great ideas and some really solid execution, but they're falling into a trap with this second chapter already. It's a formula that's starting to appear already, and it's not something that you want to see in a story like this that's riding on surprises and past memories that are lost, so I'm hoping that they can remedy this quickly and prove me wrong in my concerns with the next chapter!

I just started reading "The Ichinose family's Deadly Sins
I feel like the character's names are somehow important to either who they are or as for shadow. So I looked up a few of their names.
Tsubasa means wings, hence the drawing on the door to his room.
Kakeru can mean fly or to spread your wings and fly. I found that to be interesting. Either it could refer to something more sinister or maybe to the fact that it's a father's job to help his children "spread their wings" or leave the nest/fly away. To help them grow up and find who they are.
But I could be overthinking things. I haven't fully started researching the names so I might find more. This just really stood out to me.
Also their last name has the kanji for one and rapids/current. Just thought it might be important.

Ichinose Family Deadly's Sins is pretty interesting
Even though I'm not a pretty big fan with memory lost plots. The mystery involving the whole family is very interesting. Specially when you're expecting that the main character do the right thing as is usual on Jump Series.
When the MC returns to school, he discovers that he has always been bullied by the person that supposed to be his best friend. Of course, this is something that someone should expect. But the most interesting thing is on the third chapter, when the MC undirectly takes revenge on the actions of his bully and when he begs for forgiveness, he unconsciously takes the advantage to make him suffers the way he suffered.
I wonder how the story will develop by the rest of the family, specially his sister's sin.

okay so im rereading some older chapters to check if kenta was actually the kid of the woman kakeru was having an affair with and not only that, i completely forgot that minako remembered that she already went to their apartment irl but doesnt remember what she did. considering kenta doesnt really understand why he acts the way he does im starting to think it could be a trauma response to whatever minako did to him.... i hope it isnt but SOMETHING must have happened to make his mother just leave like that and we still dont have an answer to what minako did and im fully expecting a fall out of kakeru just not meeting up with that woman anymore
