Yaroslav Bayarunas as Drifter/Perseus in Icarus Rock Opera
are you satisfied with the life inside your cage? you're not alive, you're puppets now you'll get the right to decide whether to stay in captivity or to rip the collar look at the old world crumbling enough with just complying and conforming outside the comfort zone does it matter who belongs to what caste?

Icarus the rock opera summary:
So well, there is The Polis (aka The City) ruled by Theseus. Theseus is relatively good ruler, but he has huge PTSD due to (supposedly nuclear) apocalypse and followed after it anarchy that ruined all of his childhood and youth, so he is obsessed with keeping his people safe and having strong order. Even if it includes subduing of any freethinking and any discontent, literal betrization (there are "bracelets" that reduce citizens' anger and their creativity), constant monitoring of all the city and The Cupola - barrier around the city which doesn't allow anything from outside to come in.
Of course, outside is mostly the radioactive wastelands... But there is a problem: there are people in there, who survive in these wastelands in the shadow of The Cupola without anything, because Theseus grabs all the resources he can reach to keep his city wealthy and be able to tell his people that this wealth and luxury is the proof that the city is the most advanced and generally superior place (yeah, and "Icarus" is straight-up capitalism and technocracy critique btw). And those people aren't allowed in. Theseus has two excuses for it: the first is that the most of them, apparently, are descendants of bandits who terrorized the Polis' founders (including Theseus) and their people (and so, obviously, they are just as dangerous and vile as their ancestors), and the second is that The Bard, one of their leaders and once Theseus's ally, did criticize his way of ruling and after an argument concluded an uneven agreement: he should build a free society he wants in the wastelands with nothing and then Theseus will allow him and his people back to The Polis and will listen to him.
Titular Icarus is the ingenious scientist in the Polis, respected and loved by all... Before once, led by his curiousity, he goes into wastelands and meets The Bard who dreams of freedom and his daughter who dreams of literal reaching to the stars. Inspired by their spirit, he decides to create embodiment of freedom - the wings. But his friends make fun of it and Theseus, afraid of possible chaos, forbids the project. Then Brutus, best friend if Icarus, who isn't straight-up named Traitor only to keep antique tendency in naming, convinces the ruler to relent, but they make program boundaries which make the wings just a useless trinket. But Icarus secretly makes the pair of real ones and presents them to exiles.
And then there is act II. "The Rogue" Perseus from the exiles steals the wings and uses them to damage the power station which feeds The Cupola and bracelets, so they black out temporarily. Without protection and the thing that subdues people's anger there is chaos in The Polis. Theseus blames Icarus and makes him an outcast. He also is going to judge The Bard's daughter since she was in the city about the time of attack. Icarus starts to realize that there is a lot of problems with the system. He finds Perseus and then there is just... Perseus' s time to shine. He calls out Icarus fir his blindness, The Polis for its arrogance, he (with Icarus's help) breaks in the courtroom at the time of the trial of The Bard's daughter and calls out Theseus for his cruelty towards exiles and makes him to disable The Cupola permanently.
The third act isn't released yet, but it seems like Perseus's actions will cause riots, Icarus will try to rebuild the system into something new but will be betrayed by Brutus who wants to keep the old order (if it will get Icarus or Perseus imprisoned i'll scream), but after all will manage to free people of The Polis by disabling the program boundaries which not allow trinket wings's engines to work at their full power and actually fly.

Dungeon Meshi Modern AU Important Laios Thought:
Okay so Laios would definitely get into a fist fight with Undertale creator Toby Fox right, actually not even going to put a question mark after right because I know I'm right. Laios would be introduced to Undertale as soon as it comes out because Falin backed the kickstarter and had been gushing to her brother about it's fun concept for an RPG where you don't have to kill any monsters. Laios then plays Undertale and slowly grows to hate it, because the promise of monsters actually just turned out to be a bunch of weirdly shaped humans who could be killed more easily. He keeps playing to try and connect with Falin about it but when he reaches the pacifist ending on his 9th playthrough he flips his desk when Flowey becomes a GoatMAN, and thus resolves to beat-up Toby Fox. Thankfully tracking him down is easy because in the modern AU Marcille has a new magic spell called "Hacking into people's computers", which she agreed to do if Laios would stop drawing her as a furry or a dubious little creature and would instead draw a picture of her fish Sky. When Laios gets to Toby Fox's house he bangs at the door, but instead of Toby Fox walking out he is first met with a tired looking man wearing a carefully knitted sweater saying "I LOVE MY CHILD, KID ICARUS UPRISING FOR THE NINTENDO 3DS" on it. He walks over to his care and peacefully drives away. Since Laios didn't care about this man he kept looking at the door. After 5 of gods own minutes Toby Fox trotted out to greet him. As Toby Fox appeared in the form of a small white dog Laios thought he had the upper hand with his animal knowledge, however Toby Fox is simply a human in the form of a dog and quickly dislodged a vinyl record from the wall with a piece of tape that had text written on it saying "TOBY FOX'S ROCK OPERA" and hit Laios over the head like he was Alex YIIK and knocked Laios the hell out. Afterwards whenever Undertale was brought up around Laios he would say "I bet if I could code I'd make a game called "Eatertale" and it would be much more realistic". This would continue on for years until one day when Izutsumi is google searching for JPEGs of Fish on Laios laptop when her paw pads don't work well on the trackpad, leading swiping her hand too fast over the thing and accidently pressing the windows key and seeing all of Laios tabs. On multiple of them is beautiful sprite work with various titled but all containing the phrase "DELTARUNE WIP" attached to them.
Izutsumi doesn't really care about Laios' artwork so she doesn't end up telling anybody.
A few more years pass and everyone finds out due to Kabru sending everyone a group text from the hospital because while he was reading the Deltarune credits for fun he saw Laios' name in the credits under the artists section and had his legs kick so fast as a reaction it broke his desk and sent him and his chair careening towards the floor.

okay, i promptly passed out for several hours after writing my followup on that post, and then i had to go do the research to understand why you would make such a comparison. but now i'm back.
first of all: really cool musical! thanks for telling me about this album, i might have to download it and make a cd.
second of all: beside the main point here, but ahrima is so masked gentleman randall coded. i love it.
third of all: JESUS CHRIST HOW DARE--
ahem. once upon a time i was seated firmly in the camp that des is the one (1) eligible bachelor who wouldn't take any interest in claire, and the friendship and familial potential there is far more compelling than shoving another suitor in claire's face. alas, once upon a time i was also blissfully unaware of razia's shadow and the story of adakias and anhura.
the falling instantly and madly at first sight. the mutual ambition to break free from the chains of the past and achieve something greater than themselves. the scorn and concern of everyone else who doubts they're perfectly right for each other the way they think they are. the fact that staying together will probably kill them both, and they're too blinded by desire to care.
you're completely right about this comparison and it's so horrible. i still value their friendship a lot but i'm never going to be able to unthink how awful it can truly be now. (<- practically dancing with glee over the angst potential)
also i'm sorry if this means you need a desclaire tag now can we still be friends
you could have just ASKED me I would have been happy to tell you about the niche rock opera mostly well known among people who are either in pretty deep with alternative bands popular in the late 2000s or warrior cats fans of which I am both so
Ahrima and Randall are suuuuuuch Icarus figures and then you have the manipulation of that ambition...Descole as the spider on Randall's shoulder, tearing down what's been built in Randall's name...yeah!!
see, uh. it's been a while since I was taking in the narrative (I have the album saved in my likes and shuffle really likes Genesis and Holy the Sea in particular for whatever reason). I was thinking of Pallas (I mixed up their names) and how for me Claire and Des can only really interact if Hershel is out of the picture in some way. and like Hershel as the one who believes in the inherent goodness of humanity while Des is the one who wants to turn away from it and isolate...and him and Claire both having Hershel in common even though Hershel is gone...

To the stars.
One of my more ambitious projects. It was a challenge at every stage (especially the three point perspective in a circle xD) but I'm really proud of how it came out.
Because this is really detailed and a lot of it barely shows in the final picture, some progress stages.

Confessions of a Recovering Genrephobic 4/27/24
Hey Whores,
This week I went on a trip!
I drove in a square across my beautiful state and then spent an entire day with an incredible cute boy who looks kinda like a mexican Adam Scott so theres that.
We had fun I really like him. And in a me being healthy boy I also hung out with other friends in other towns, and saw beautiful things, went to beautiful places, and also learned alot about local history and can I say I'm really sorry the various native american tribes that had to deal with our white asses.
Anyway the hours of driving gave me a reason to listen to music. So yaayayayayayayaya.

Only Just Beginning (2004) - Jason Webley
Genre: Folk Length: 51:58 (10 Tracks)
Another Jason Webley album.
Tumblr media
Sing For Your Lives! (2011) - Vagabond Opera
Genre: Various (will Explain) Length: 58:17 (11 Songs)
oh how to discribe Vagabond Opera. Much like This way to the Egress, VO is one of those bands that is stylisticly steampunk, but includes a variety of older genre sound such as caberet, circus, klezmer, and other various folk styles. (oh an opera forgot about that) I wouldn't think that it would be *incorrect* to label this as dark caberet but understand that its dark in the same way that zoey boekbinder is.
heres a sample.
Tumblr media
Tapestry (1971) - Carole King
Genre: Soft Rock, Pop Length: 44:31 (12 Tracks)
Tumblr media
You Light Up My Life (1977) - Debby Boone
Genre: Pop Length: 38:12 (12 Tracks)
No not that other album with the exact name.
Overall this and the last album was nice? It had that kind of soft 70s pop sound from back then and its not for me. Enough said.
Tumblr media
Black Sabbath (1970) - Black Sabbath
Genre: Heavy Metal Length: 38:08 (7 Tracks)
Tumblr media
When The Moon Was Hungry (2007) - The Romanovs
Genre: Dark Caberet, Goth Rock Length: 43:49 (10 Tracks)
ok first baby dolls you have to hear this song.
youtube
God isn't that so good. Its gothic, its so clearly dark cabernet, and its just a hot ass song. Honestly I kinda understand why I was so obsessed with The Last Dinner Party a couple months back.
The actually history of this album is interesting. Its essentially a one-off project by the singer and a few of her friends and they only released this one album. Its also not on spotify and most sources are pretty confused on the track listings. Essentially there is no official digital version of this album online everything you can find is a fan recreation.
I love how I keep falling in love with partially lost media essential. Banger album I need to listen to more goth music.
