In northern Palawan two tiger subfossils were found during archaeological excavations at Ille Cave near the village of New Ibajay, as reported by Philip Piper and colleagues … Piper and colleagues take the tiger bones as evidence of a viable tiger population in Palawan. However, tiger claws are widely used as amulets in the whole of South and Southeast Asia where tigers occur, a practice carried out in earlier centuries, as pointed out by Van der Geer. Furthermore, the condition of the tiger subfossils differs from that of the other fossils, as they show longitudinal cracking of the cortical bone surfaces due to weathering, indicating a post-mortem exposure to air and light. In addition, slight damage is present at several places, and partial concretion occurs on one of the condyles. Piper and colleagues are aware of the 'ornamental' (magic) value of tiger skins and teeth, and admit that these can be transported over long distances, but they overlook tiger claws and jugular bones, which are widely used as well. The tiger subfossils might thus very well have been imported by the human settlers. Such was the case with the tiger canine found in 10th to 12th century Ambangan sites in Butuan, Mindanao, as explained by Elenita Alba. On the other hand, admittedly, Palawan is not far away from Borneo, and tigers are known to be excellent swimmers. A few tiger remains have also been reported from Borneo, being two subadult canines and a metacarpal fragment (Niah Caves) and a navicular bone (Madai Cave), from large latest Pleistocene and Early Holocene vertebrate assemblages. The conclusion that there was a viable tiger population in Palawan during the latest Pleistocene and early Holocene.

Panay Today on Facebook:
AKLAN - Earlier today, redtagging slogans were painted on cement barriers along the highway connecting Tangalan and Ibajay towns in Aklan.
The slogans, "Mabuhay Ang CPP - Kim-Sin F. Tugna" and "#55-CPP from BAYAN-Aklan", maliciously linked the progressive group BAYAN-Aklan and its spokesperson, Kim-sin Tugna with the Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP).
BAYAN-Aklan added the "this is a clear violation of human rights that targets those who firmly stand for truth and the democratic interests of the people." This is not the first time that Tugna and the whole organization were attacked, they said.
Tugna has been subjected to surveillance, threats, and was also harassed by the state forces many times before.
BAYAN-Aklan called on the local government units of Tangalan and Ibajay towns, and Aklan province to investigate the case and hold those behind the red-tagging slogan accountable.

ATI- ATIHAN FESTIVAL
Ati-Atihan Festival: The Mother of All Philippine Festivals.
Dubbed as the Mother of All Philippine Festivals, the Ati-Atihan Festival is widely known not just in the Philippines but across the world. Ati-Atihan Festival meaning is “to be like Atis or Aetas" (Aklan Province’s natives).Similar to Cebu’s Sinulog Festival, and Iloilo’s Dinagyang Festival this event is celebrated to honor the Child Jesus, Santo Niño.The Ati Atihan Festival celebration consists of multiple events that happen in various parts of Kalibo town. You’ll never run out of things to do because Ati-Atihan has all kinds of events from solemn masses, loud marching bands to partying on the streets.
So if you are planning to visit Boracay in January, you might as well watch the locals masquerading as Negritos in colorful costumes, chanting “Hala Bira!” while doing the Ati-Atihan Dance in Aklan.Ati atihan Festival is a festival dance that originated in Cebu and usually celebrated by the month of January. Learn more about this Aklan Festival by reading this guide.
Ati-Atihan Festival History
The Ati Arihan Festival history goes way back to the 1700s. In 1975, a Catholic priest named Msgr. Jose Iturralde wrote that the origin of the Ati-Atihan Festival started from an old couple who lives in the western part of Aklan.Msgr. Iturralde said that in the early-1700s, a fisherman went fishing in a river but caught a piece of wood instead. He threw the wood away, but it repeatedly returned to his net. The fisherman was dismayed so he just went home and decided to bring the wood. He threw it in a pile to use as fuel to cook their meal. While sleeping, the fisherman and his wife heard a beating sound. When they search where it’s coming from, they found a carving of a child on the piece of wood from the river.
The fisherman placed it on their altar. Since then, the family received blessings, including good fish harvests. After a few weeks, the fisherman sought advice from a priest. The priest asked the fisherman to place the wood at the Ibajay Parish but the wood was repeatedly disappearing and was always found at the roof of the fisherman’s house. The Ibajay residents believed that the incident was a call for them to seek forgiveness of their sins. Part of their penance was to blacken their faces with coal and to dress in rags which later on became the Ati-Atihan Festival costume. After doing this, the piece of wood has remained and never disappeared in the church.
One day, a group of Spaniards known as the Moros from the Mindoro province tried to invade Ibajay. The residents fought back and dedicated their victory to the piece of wood. Until now, the fight between the natives against the Spaniards is being commemorated as part of the Ibajay Ati-Atihan.
In 1798 Padre Fernando de Legaspi, a priest based in Malinao town heard about the yearly celebration being held in Ibajay. Upon witnessing the revelry, he decided to do it, too, in the towns of Malinao and Kalibo in 1800.On June 11, 1871, a testament was signed by a Kalibo priest with businessmen in town to institutionalize the holding of the annual Ati-Atihan Festival. On the other hand, there’s another legend connected to the Ati-Atihan Festival history. It was said that 10 Bornean datus sailed to Aklan to escape the dictatorship of their ruler. They accidentally landed on Panay Island and welcomed by the Aetas.
The 10 Bornean datus were believed to have bought the entire Panay Island from the Aetas with gold jewelry. This legend was, however, officially declared a myth by the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA).
Ati-Atihan Festival 2021 Schedule of Activities
Because of the pandemic, the usual celebration of the Ati-Atihan Festival tagalog was done digitally. There were no public gatherings, Ati-Atihan Festival street dances, and other activities that require close contacts to follow the health and safety protocols. The local government didn’t let the pandemic ruin the Ati Atihan mood so they celebrated the yearly festival in Aklan virtually.
Ati-Atihan Festival 2021 Guide
Just like any other festival, Ati-Atihan will be so much fun and tiring! Don’t let the heat and crowd spoil your trip. But because of the pandemic, the mother of all festival this year is celebrated online. And in case this Kalibo Aklan festival is back to normal next year.
Aklan Tourist Spots
Here’s a list of the best places to visit in Aklan once you’re done celebrating Ati-Atihan Festival.
1.Boracay
2.Kalibo Cathedral
3.Museo It Akean
4.Hinugtan Beach, Buruanga
5.Ariel’s Point
6.Jawili Beach
7.Tangalan Church

We visited Tangalan beach and went to Aklan Museum yesterday. It was almost an ordinary day since nothing really special happened. We also went to Sto. Niño de Ibajay and there resides the Senior Sto. Niño which is the oldest in the Philippines as the locals say. Then we went to San Jose where my grandpa lived before. My grandma will live here for the meantime.

September 15, Sunday.
Last day ni Amiel sa work. Mula bahay bumiyahe ulit ako pa-QC. May flight ako neto kinaumagahan pero keri langs. Ayun nag-inom kami. Nalasing ako haha (as in nakatulog na ako doon sa inumart) wala akong maalala, kahit yung sa Jollibee di ko matandaan, basta alam ko lang non 6AM na, pauwi na kami.
lasing talaga gurl
September 17. Tuesday.
Day 2. Normal lang naman yung mga nangyayari dito.
September 18. Wednesday.
Day 3. Ganun pa rin.
September 19. Thursday.
Day 4 ng training.
Last day ng training.
9PM sila. So mga apat na oras akong nakatunganga doon. Nagsetup ng tent. Nagluto. Uminom.
September 22. Sunday.
Tas ayun nagswimming kami. Then umuwi na ng hapon.
Heto ang iba pang mga litrato —- Tanay.
September 23. Monday.
September 24. Tuesday.
Normal office day ulit.
September 25. Wednesday.
So heto na nga.
September 26. Thursday.
It’s been one hell of a ride, but it was fun anyway.
September 27. Friday.
Long drive, could end in burning flames or paradise.
Tapos yung mga dinadaanan naming kalsada wala talagang kuryente as in.
After nun, ayun nag bar hopping lang kami. Ang daming afam haha.
September 28. Saturday.
I reached for you but you were gone,
I knew I had to go back home.
Gumala pa ako sa Ilaya, Las Cabanas Resort (yup, that was named after me).
I have a lot of memories here.
———– AND THAT’S A WRAP ———-
And look at it now.
