Hey all! I haven't posted here in so long that one of my most recent entries is announcing Process Party, the podcast I did with Mike Dawson for a few years (aaaand which has been more or less done/hibernating for a year or two now😂) so I thought I'd actually post about my current podcast, as I migrate hosts (and archive Process Party for the ages) in this holiday season.
The new one is called In This Issue… It's a podcast about what I'm calling "formative comics reading experiences," with a focus on the single issue format. Every episode I'm talking to a special guest from the world of comics, doing a close reading of a comic book (IE not a graphic novel! 22-64 pages is the range we're working with here) and have a lively chat about it. TBH I haven't actually posted a new ITI in a couple months either, but I just have to get the will to edit the ones I have banked. Look, the holidays are hard! Anyway, there's been 9 episodes so far and they're all great in their own special way! I'm excited to talk to more dorks about the comics that made them go "WHUH!?" in the coming year. Check the place where you normally find your podcasts for these and the next ones, whenever I get around to posting them!

Dead Reckoning is an imprint of the Naval Institute Press specializing in military and naval stories. Since debuting last fall they’ve released fives graphic novels (Garth Ennis’ Night Witches being the first one from their spring line-up). A few months ago I was sent a box of review copies and it’s been hanging over my head, that it’s taken me this long to get to them. I’ve read through them…

SPX POST!
This is everything I'm going to have on my part of the table at SPX, table C7A!
For new things, I'll have my debut book Act II, the illustrated second act from A Midsummer Night's Dream, with a special metallic embossed details on the cover (not seen) and my BLE prints. I'll also have copies of all of my Signature Shakespeare books (more photos here - R&J, Hamlet, Much Ado, and Macbeth), FEZZINE, and some copies of Adventure Time #24 with my variant cover. I might do some custom cut-outs on the spot too, if there's an interest (especially if it's just for flowers - flowers I can do)!
I'll also have a bunch of Ian Densford's comics and a few prints that you should check out!
So stop by and say hello! Hope to see you soon!

Review: Trench Dogs
Trench Dogs is an ambitious debut that both succeeds and fails. #comics #comicbook #graphicnovels
Inspired from assorted first-hand accounts, this fictional story of World War I is a sweeping look across the war and the soldiers who experienced the horrors of the front lines and high seas. The nightmares of World War I and the fallout after are often overlooked, this book asks the reader to look again and remember the dead, to weigh their number against those that would choose war. Conceived…

So. SPX was amazing! I met a wonderful amount of people who came up to my part of the table (shared with the amazing Ian and Alec) and chatted with me about my books and work in general. Teachers, Shakespeare fans, art fans, kids, video game developers, peers. A little girl, no older than five, came and asked me for my autograph. In a mini interview with someone from Fantom Comics, I mentioned that if I had to date one of the characters it would be Beatrice because she’s a strong, feisty woman with a good soul. One of the main people in charge of SPX, Michael David Thomas (MDT), stopped by and bought a book at the same time that Kali and Sam came by and I was so in awe of them all that I blushed a deep red I’m sure. Also, Ian and Alec are some seriously awesome people, and I advise you to check out their work. Ian has a sick blog, The Weapon Smith, where he takes requests to do amazing RPG-style weapons (to which I will be contributing soon!), and Alec’s comic Bell’s Duet has this awesome Tommy-esque style and is the start of a very cool story.
In between people stopping by my table, I managed to get a couple of prints and signatures and books (I basically flew to a couple of tables to nab what I needed before they got too crowded). And I met some of my absolute heroes of illustration who were unbelievably awesome in person. Double-whammy. Seriously, the level of talent at SPX is staggering.
All in all, total success. Sold a whole bunch of books which was pretty great considering I had a sixth of a table. And I sold a print of my new FEZ piece for the upcoming zine, and that was really, really awesome validation, heh.
Looking forward to the next convention now (probably MoCCA Fest)! Thanks to all of you lovely people for making it so special!
(PS - that’s me looking vaguely annoyed in the last picture. It’s a default face, but I’m very approachable at the same time!)
