BHOC: MARVEL'S GREATEST COMICS #82
This next issue of MARVEL’S GREATEST COMICS, #82, presented a bit of a problem for me. MGC reprinted earlier issues of FANTASTIC FOUR from the past, and consequently was very much a must buy title for me at the time. But by the point when this issue hit the stands, I already owned a copy of the issue it reprinted, FANTASTIC FOUR #102. So I wouldn’t be getting a whole lot of entertainment for my…

I hope that with everything in me Sylvie Brett gets the ending that not only she deserves but Kara Killmer also deserves. Kara has been on Chicago Fire for a little over 7 (maybe 8) years now and she’s the longest running female character in OC history.
I’m sad to see her go because she’s been one of the only reasons I’ve kept watching Chicago Fire. I related to Sylvie Brett so much and loved watching her grow from the green paramedic in a new city to the badass PIC she became. Especially the love story with her and Matt. Her character and Brettsey inspired me to start writing fanfics and I’ll be forever grateful for the support on that and the support of the fandom here.

Will I keep watching after she leaves? I haven’t decided yet. But I’m really excited for this new chapter in her life and will support her in any new projects she’ll be in.

June Christy's "Something Cool:" A Definitive Album of Cool Jazz Vocalism
Introduction: June Christy’s “Something Cool” stands as a seminal album in vocal jazz history, not just for its groundbreaking approach but for the lasting impact it had on the “cool” jazz movement. Originally released as a 10-inch LP in 1954 and later expanded to a 12-inch LP in 1955, “Something Cool” is considered by many to be a masterpiece of modern jazz vocalism, combining June Christy’s…

A Different Man (15): Art Imitating Life.
One Mann's Movies Film Review of "A Different Man". A clever comedy/thriller. 3.5/5.
A One Mann’s Movies review of “A Different Man” (2024). A double-Stan month for me. I have, of course, enjoyed seeing him rip into the ‘Orange Peril in the West’ (Trump) in “The Apprentice“. But here he appears in a very different film. But it’s one with certain similarities: for it’s a tale of appearance over substance and of ego’s bruised. Bob the Movie Man Rating: “A Different Man” Plot…

Macho Men
We might be on the verge of voting in our first female president so it seems only fitting that in its closing days this election has suddenly become about… Masculinity. Oh hey. This is what happens in a country primarily ruled by men.  And, in terms of the top job, ONLY ruled by men. As a gay man I’ve always had an odd relationship with the “M” word.  Macho. Effeminate. Toxic. Weak. Strong.…

BHOC: MARVEL'S GREATEST COMICS #81
I had been waiting for this issue of MARVEL’S GREATEST COMICS for a good long while. Having the Olshevsky OFFICIAL MARVEL INDEX TO THE FANTASTIC FOUR, I knew that this next book would be reprinting FANTASTIC FOUR #100. And that was of special interest to me for one reason: due to nothing more than it being the centennial issue, the back issue price of the original comic had experienced a mark-up.…
