Something something Bracken's horns always falling into Kendra's hands. Holding a piece of you you thought you lost forever, letting her have it, because now she's a part of you to.
Maybe a story about destiny. Here's a piece of me you found before you even knew me. We helped each other before we met each other. Thank you thank you thank you for returning the favor, I want to help you further.
Maybe its a story about healing. Bracken the hornless unicorn, trapped inside himself. Kendra brings him out of prison, opens him up, helps him retrieve his second horn. Does it again, helps him reclaim his third.
Maybe its a story of realization. She represent all he was, and showed him he didn't need it anymore. Let me cut you some pieces of me, so that my connection to you can last forever.
The horns are so much to me.
#fablehaven#dragonwatch#brackendra#shiponthesource#bracken the hornless unicorn#its sort of. I love the story of Bracken the unicorn#so I wasn't super hyped about him giving up his immortality at the end of dragonwatch because thats what made him super interesting to me#(also he was sosososo happy to get his powers back in kttdp)#and dragonwatch didn't develop him enough for me to excited about what he was developing to#give it up for Bracken worlds first male sexy lamp prize. !#anyways. going to explode now.#because the subtext story I've been fed could feed me for YEARS

big long rant
Okay okay so I love looking for and reading bad brackendra fics cause they’re fucking hilarious.
But some of them are good, like really good
It got me thinking, about the logistics of Bracken’s immortality and Kendra’s age again. About Ronodin’s immortality. About Lena’s
My first impression is ew, especially with Bracken, right? But Brandon wrote it so it’s ew, even if unintentional, he did.
Would it be wrong in every situation, no matter what?
We know that Brandon claims their minds are young, which does justify some things, except for the fact that their actions prove otherwise. If their actions proved Brandon’s words would it be okay? Would we believe it?
What if they genuinely felt like that? What if they were genuinely at the maturity of that age? A lot of the reason dating laws exist is because of the difference in maturity. And even though I don’t think 18 should be the cutoff, it’s why it’s there.
I mean, I still find it weird when people think once a child is 18 it’s suddenly okay to like them. Because your brain stops maturing at around 25. For me, it’s all about maturity. If their maturity was genuinely at that level, would it be okay? Would it be separate enough from their wisdom and experiences from their long life?
Another thing that got me thinking was an essay I wrote for my English 1010 class. One of the sources provided mentioned the brain affected things like attraction.
This source provided an example of how a tumor, pushing against where attraction is created, forms pedophilic thoughts and urges in someone. And while yes, this is bad, could it be the same in other scenarios? Could the way the brain is arranged cause different, uncontrollable, emotions and feelings?
If their brain was arranged in such a way, if the part that controlled their emotions was shaped in such a way, they wouldn’t have any control over it. It’s not some malicious or creepy feeling anymore, to them at least.
If they were genuinely at the same maturity, genuinely had no control over their attraction, because that’s just how they were made, how they were built, would it still be creepy?
Could they be considered the same age if their maturity was at the same level?
It’s like, I’m attracted to people my age. Because that’s how it should be, that’s how I was made. That’s how the thing in my brain is shaped. I’m not attracted to little children, because it’s wrong, and it’s not how I was made. If all of those immortal beings were made to mature at a certain rate, and made to be attracted to certain people, are their feelings valid, or is their species as a whole just wrong?
Just some thoughts. Wondering how everyone else feels on the subject? Still undecided myself honestly. I want some opinions outside of my brain.
#I’m actually pretty proud of that essay though#it’s on free will and whether it exists or not.#fablehaven#dragonwatch#bracken#kendra sorenson#brackendra#ronodin#ronodin the dark unicorn#lena burgess

Been pondering about who i think the Fhdw characters favorites are/relate to in Sanrio and it has NOT left my mind. So I tried something new! My two favorite things combined!! ˚˖𓍢ִ໋🌷͙֒✧˚.🎀༘⋆
ᝰ.ᐟFHDW meets SANRIO CHARACTERS ೀ
Kendra
She’s a Hello Kitty girl through and through although Seth calls her basic for it. They both love to read, are true friends, honest and have hearts of gold! Has different varieties in her collection (big and small). OWNS ALL THE HOLIDAY THEMED ONES! Corrects people who say she shes a cat and not a little girl.
Seth
Okay so i may be projecting here lol but he SCREAMS Chococat. They’re scattered-brained at times but LOVE to play around! They keep up to date on the latest news too. Has a plush of him on his bed. May or may not cuddle it sometimes…and Kendra may or may not have pictures…
Vanessa
No question about it. Kuromi. They both act tough but are secretly softies, they’re mischievous tho! Both have similar backstories and wanted revenge at a point in time too. Also fun fact: both were imprisoned for their crimes. She watched all the shows & movies she was featured in while in the dungeon!
Warren
Gotta be My Melody! Mostly bc he found out Vanessa’s fav was Kuromi lol. Funnily enough both characters have history with the other just like Warren and Vanessa. Both are good-natured and wholesome who bring good vibes to those around them. Not to mention they love their family! Is trying to convince Vanessa to go as them for Halloween-
Ronodin
Badtz Maru! Are you even surprised lol? Here are just some of Badtz’s likes; rolling his eyes, pulling faces at people and blowing raspberries at people…Definitely Ronodin coded (especially in appearance)! Would have a lot of fun troublemaking together since they love villainy<3 ! Bracken keeps asking him who his fav is but he refuses to tell him.
Bracken
Blue eyes and white (silver) hair?! How could he literally be anyone BUT Cinnamoroll! Both are quite shy but very friendly. They always help their friends when they need it AND have a tendency to put others before themselves. They’re both very popular for their looks too lol. Both come from distant territories (Cinnamoroll, the sky & Bracken, the fairy kingdom).
Tanu
Didn’t initially know about Sanrio until Kendra introduced him to it and immediately related to Pompompurin. Both are as chill as can be. Pom is a bit of a fashion icon due to his cute beret and striped scarf similar to Tanu being well renowned in the potion making community! They have positive outlooks on life and find joy in the little things!
Dale
People often forget about him a lot, just like Keroppi. Both are full of energy since Kerropi likes to swim/ play sports and Dale tends to the chores around Fablehaven. They even both have brothers and animal friends (Dale has Viola and Keroppi has a snail friend called Den Den). They’re just here for a good time! However, one time Warren got him a pusheen plush for his bday and he LOVED it. So he’s more of a pusheen type of guy now :3
Wow! This was really fun to do and pretty different from my other posts, might make a part 2 with some other characters but we’ll see😻 Hope you were able to learn a cool fact or two about Sanrio characters and I’m open to hearing thoughts on if you think this is accurate!
PS i started tagging my fhdw posts under the tag #shir0oos-thoughts so check it out if you enjoyed this post bc i’ll be making more soon!

Okay, overall thoughts on Fablehaven and Dragonwatch. I hope to write in more detail later - I have a first draft of a post about my take on some of the religious themes and allegory in Dragonwatch - but I gotta start somewhere (that requires less citations).
I saw Carnival Quest on the library shelf last November, read that, and had so much fun I decided to go for more Brandon Mull and reread Fablehaven. (I don't read a lot of kids books, as an adult, but I hadn't felt like reading in awhile and this made reading fun.) The first book was rough, honestly—it was his first published book and it shows. The prose felt clunky and awkward, but I got used to it and it improved. Seth drove me insane—so much of the plot was driven by "Seth screws up." But it was a quick and easy and fun read, and the world and concept were a delight!
Books 2–4 were great. I only read the books once or twice over ten years ago, so all I remembered was the general concept, a little about Kendra and Seth, and a vague idea of the final battle. I got to experience all the twists again! It was very fun to see the people who populate this increasingly large world, and the people around the edges like that rich couple in Georgia who have fairies but have never seen a preserve. Like, how did they get involved, how much do they know? It's clear that Kendra and Seth are way more deeply involved than someone who just discovered the preserves normally would be. I have a lot of thoughts about their parents and how Fablehaven fits in with their lives, and I think I think about that a lot more as an adult—it doesn't bother me but I find it more sad now.
Keys to the Demon Prison was big, and wow did we see the world. It added a lot of stuff that hadn't felt foreshadowed at all—the Eternals, Vasilis, Bracken—so it felt a little disconnected and like there were some deus ex machina. I liked the ending, though, and how everything wrapped up with swapping the demon prison and the fairy realm.
So, fun series! They definitely felt like kids books, but I would still recommend them to kids and adults who want to read a fun, magical adventure.
After this, life got busy, and I needed a break, and time to let the books sink in and read a few other books, so I didn't start Dragonwatch until January. I raced through the first three books, then took about a week off before I could get myself past the beginning of Champion of the Titan Games, then finished the series in under a week. They got so frustrating and dark that I needed that break, but I'm glad I didn't force myself to keep reading when I was worn out.
Okay, look, I know this seems to be an unpopular opinion, but I enjoyed them. I don't know if it helped because I read them all in under a month and didn't think too hard or reread them in between, and I hadn't been eagerly awaiting them—I don't think much about Mull or keep up with his new books. I didn't notice a lot of the continuity errors that I guess were there, though I did notice the big thematic change from darkness being neutral to being more evil (though I have some thoughts on that, too). There were definitely some weird choices. The structure of book five felt very similar to Fablehaven's book five.
I liked Knox and Tess. I see reasons they would be introduced, and while they could have done more (Tess: spends entire series as the innocent girl, gets teleported around a couple times but never to anywhere from which she can get home), I couldn't help liking them. They're decent foils for Kendra and Seth, at least. I think I'd have liked more of them, over cutting them. I badly wanted Knox and Seth to sit down for a good conversation about mistakes and forgiveness.
One of the story choices that baffled or irritated me most was not putting Marat or Agad back in charge of Wyrmroost, after Celebrant lost his status. I guess the best argument is there wasn't time between them returning from Stormguard Castle and Seth's disappearance, and the explicit consent of both Kendra and Seth was needed, but like, that should have been the first thing they did. I guess no one thought of it. And I suppose there was still the issue of no easy way to leave.
There was a lot of religion, which I began to notice in Master of the Phantom Isle, and was surprisingly blatant in Return of the Dragon Slayers. Religious themes in books don't bother me, though I know that's a YMMV topic and I understand why some people don't like it. (Thank you to the Fablehaven fandom for, as far as I can tell, not getting into absolute hatred of Christianity.) But, well, they were still overall the fun adventures that I was reading for, even as they got more sad and the character arcs got deeper. I'm glad I finished and read through the whole series.
I was left with a lot to think about. I have ideas for fanfiction. Mostly canon compliant, set after Dragonwatch, with some earlier, and also one romance AU that I'm worried about people's reactions to the ship. I'm buying a lot of the books to reference more easily, since I like referencing books when I write and I'm no longer twelve years old with the time and urge to flip through and reread books a dozen times until I know every plot point by heart by the time I return them to the library, but I do have more disposable income.
So, uh, I'm not really one to rate books, but I'd still call these solid and fun overall, though they have their flaws. I far prefer enjoying books to criticizing them, so I'd rather like them and try to find ideas and headcanons that improve them, rather than linger on the elements I dislike. I want to be positive!

Who needs therapy when you can make cute little brackendra fanarts.
I wanted to change styles a little bit, go maybe for a "cuter" one, with softer lines. Something you can see on my oldest drawings on here.
So here you have it. Just a fanart of Bracken amd Kendra cuddeling. I don't think I did really good.
Also when drawing I asked myself a question...

Am very interested to hear more abt your WIPs
Akxjsonssnsjs okay okay! So.
The first WIP called Black bird fly! It’s a Tim-centric time travel fix it where Mr Mxyzptlk sends Tim back in time, saving his life as thanks for when he, Kon and Bart helped him. Most of the chapters are gonna be in Tim’s POV, the time he lands in is gonna be about a day before Jason’s death, so Tim in all his feral ‘I’m probably dead so there won’t be any consequences’ flies to Ethiopia and saves Jason himself. There’s a lot of found family, a lot of grief/mourning surrounding the old timeline, and everyone in the new timeline being concerned by all the trauma symptoms he displays. I’ve finished the first two chapters and most of the third, but I haven’t begun posting yet because I want to finish more chapters so I can post once a week, because I don’t trust myself to not touch it for three months as soon as I start posting. The paragraph I shared was from the third chapter, where Bruce is flying Tim (asleep) back to Gotham on the batplane (he called Wally to get Jason to Leslie quick as possible). It’s my main WIP and the fic I spend most my writing time on, and I’ve daydreamed enough ‘backstory’ for Tim to write like seven multi-chapters set in the old timeline…
The second WIP doesn’t have an offical name, and the only one I’ve come up for it so far is Future days of death, not because it makes much sense regarding plot but because it sounds cool. It’s a crossover between DC and Fablehaven, because I recently finished reading Dragonwatch and the world building is giving me IDEAS. I have a LOT of different ideas as to where the plot goes, and I haven’t written a lot of it, but it’s largely Constantine and Captain Marvel (/Shazam) centric, with a good focus on batfam and the Fablehaven characters. The idea that sparked this WIP was Constantine being captured by the Sphinx and kept in his dungeon where he meets Bracken. I also have a vague idea where he convinces Seth not to heal the demon whose name I don’t know how to spell and the three of them escape the dungeon with all of the artefacts, but that doesn’t fit with my other ideas, which is mostly the JL thinking Constantine is dead and freaking out and Captain Marvel knowing Something Is Up. I also like to think Coulter and Alfred were old tea buddies, and I have ideas abt Constantine being magically put to sleep and Vanessa taking control and saving his life. I’m also tempted to make Seth and Kendra school friends with Kon so he has Tim investigate Kendra’s disappearance/death, which would be an interesting can of worms.
The third WIP is one I’m writing for the @/wipbigbang, a Tim-centric Coraline AU. It takes place right after Red Robin, and he finds the door to the other mother (other father in this case, the bedlam takes the form of Bruce) like his second day back in the manor. It’ll follow the plot of the book pretty closely. Lot of family angst and trust issues and stuff, and I will address Tim’s interaction with Nyssa al Ghul because if no one else does then I’ll do it myself. It’ll have more interactions with the family post-defeating the bedlam and will definitely have a happy ending. I haven’t written a whole lot of it and right now the paragraph I shared is probably my fave ‘cause of how funny I find it.
#wkfnskdn thank you for askinggg#dc comics#tim drake#john constantine#fablehaven#wips#tbh Fablehaven is a pretty small fandom I wouldn’t be surprised if u have no idea what I’m talking about#I will take any excuse to talk abt my wips#none of my family are into DC. most of them don’t even know I write fanfic#answered asks#sorry I didn’t reply right away I was watching memes with my siblings

Fablehaven characters as things me and my friends have said:
Seth: So if you're taking a nap, you're asleep. YOURE SLEEP TEXTING?!
Vanessa: Should I be nice or mean? Hmmmm... pick.
Warren: Anyways I have a whole box of cheez-its on my bed.
Kendra: These kids are what the world is depending on and honestly, I don't know if I'd trust them
Stan: [Taking a break] wouldn't do anything anyways 'cause I have too many problems.
Knox: I just crashed into three curbs and totaled three path signs. Best driver.
Coulter: Gonna go pitch myself off the balcony now
Bracken: I only inquired because I wanted to know.

I was going through my Google docs trying to find something I’d scribbled down idk however long ago, and I stumbled across this little oneshot that I wrote some time after Dragonwatch 3 was released and before Dragonwatch 4 came out. Thought I’d share it here. I don’t know why I didn’t post it before.
Again, this was written before Dragonwatch 4 was released, so the oneshot doesn’t fit into canon (unfortunately canon took a huge nose-dive IMO).
Enjoy some sweet brackendra. ❤️
———
She sits by herself at the edge of the ocean, overlooking rocky shores and crashing waves. The air is warm and humid, but at least the breeze from the beach - if she can call it that - helps to quell the heat a little. The coarse and bumpy expanse of rock which stretches out beneath her crossed legs does nothing to help ease the ache in her heart, but at least the view and scent of the water helps to speak some minute semblance of peace to her soul.
Her thoughts turn to her brother, as they often do these days. She wonders where he is, and worries over his well being. Is he hurt? Has he had enough to eat? Is he sleeping okay? Is Ronodin still influencing him?
Kendra constantly worries about how he feels. Her brother is lost. Maybe he has an idea of where he’s headed physically, but in all other ways he is lost, and she fears for him, she wants to protect him, longs to see his smile, misses his incessant teasing, cries for his absence. Her brother has become her best friend, and the pain she feels threatens to eat her alive.
Bracken’s footsteps approach her. She briefly smiles at the thought that he’s usually so quiet when he walks that he often seems to appear out of nowhere, so if she’s hearing him now - over the noise of the waves - that must mean he’s deliberately trying to be loud in order to give her warning of his approach. He’s still quiet, which broadens her smile a bit, but the momentary amusement flees when she sees the almost cautious expression on his face.
“May I sit with you?” he asks. Kendra nods her head in response, and he takes up residence next to her on the relatively flat expanse of rock she had chosen earlier. She rests her head on her knees, her arms wrapped around her legs, and watches as he situates himself.
“The Giant Queen lives at the foothills of those mountains,” Bracken says after a moment, and points to a particular peak off in the distance. “It will probably take us the better part of a full day to walk there.”
“Aren’t we waiting for Warren and the others?”
He shakes his head. “Warren said they’ll meet us at the Queen’s fortress. She’s the caretaker of the preserve, so she fields all visitors.”
“Do you think she’ll be angry that we entered somewhere other than the front gate?” Kendra can’t believe she didn’t think about this before now; she’d just gone along with what everyone else had suggested. Go with Bracken through the Fairy Queen’s shrine to Titan Valley. We’ll meet you there. Really? She hadn’t even thought that sneaking in might be problematic?
Her brain is clearly not functioning correctly.
Bracken smiles at her. “I don’t think so,” he says. “The Giant Queen and the Fairy Queen are at peace with one another.”
Her mind is still mostly with her brother. No wonder she’s overlooked something so simple. Bracken’s attitude reassures her enough that she decides she’ll let him worry about whether or not they’ll run into trouble with the Giant Queen. She looks at him and wonders how he can be so calm all of the time. Everything is wrong. The world is upside-down and on the brink of collapse again.
Bracken is collected.
Seth is missing.
She feels weak at this moment, and she hates it, but she can’t seem to pull herself out of it. She hides her face in her knees and tries to shrink in on herself as emotion overwhelms her.
One tentative hand falls on her shoulder, and then she’s enveloped in a hug. “We’ll get him back, Kendra,” he says.
“Sure,” she replies while tears fall from her eyes. She wants to believe him, and she hopes he’s right, but doubt overrides her thoughts. Doubt and worry. So much worry.
“We will,” he states with confidence. “There was uncertainty in his demeanor. He wants to be true to himself. He wants to do what’s right, and he wants to be a true hero. He’s just trying to figure out how to be that person.”
He pauses for a moment, then continues. “If hope were lost, Kendra, then Seth wouldn’t be second-guessing himself. The mere fact that he is unsure of everything speaks volumes about the situation. Your brother is strong. He is kind, and he wants to help those who are in need. He will come back to you. He will figure out who he wants to be, and he will come back to you.”
A loud sniffle escapes her. “You don’t know that.”
“I do know that. I don’t know whether it will happen in a day, a month, or a year, but I know it.”
She knows he is trying to be kind and reassuring, but she can’t take it anymore. Thoughts flow from her mouth without filtration. “How are you always so sure of yourself?”
Her words sound more biting than she intends, but at this moment she doesn’t care. She’s confused, she’s never handled confusion well, and she’s frustrated that he’s not understanding her. How could he? He’s always so cool and collected, so self-possessed and confident. Kendra has had many wonderful moments of confidence in herself, but never so constant as Bracken, who she’s never seen waver. He makes decisions and then deals with the ramifications of those decisions gracefully. She’s never seen him lose his temper, not truly, and she’s never seen him doubt himself.
She’s envious of him in that respect.
“I know who I am,” he tells her. His tone of voice does not betray any of the emotions he may be feeling at the moment, which bothers Kendra a little more.
She sneaks a peek at him. “What is that supposed to mean?”
His expression remains impassive. She can tell that he’s pulled a careful mask over his face, and she doesn’t understand why, and it only serves to confuse her more.
“It means that you need to decide who you are, too,” he explains. His words aren’t unkind, but they also aren’t satisfying.
“I know who I am,” she replies.
“Do you?” he asks.
She narrows her gaze at him. “What do you mean?”
He bumps his folded hands against his mouth a few times and straightens up before speaking again. “You are Kendra Sorenson,” he states. “Daughter of Marla and Scott, sister of Seth. You are intelligent, honest, kind, and courageous. You are fairykind, and as such, you have the unique ability to bridge gaps between many creatures of light and humans. You are of great importance to your family, your friends, and the world at large.”
Kendra doesn’t reply. His words flatter her, but she still doesn’t understand what he’s trying to do.
“You are worthy of all of the good which comes to you in life. You deserve it. The kindness which has been shown to you, the powers you have been endowed with, the affection which is freely given to you; you deserve it all.
“The problem, Kendra, is that you don’t believe any of the things I just said. At least not all of them. Not truly. So, I ask - who are you? Who do you believe you are? Because, ultimately, what matters most is your own opinion of yourself.”
She feels her eyebrows scrunch together in her bafflement. “You think I should be… prideful?”
Bracken smiles a little, then says, “Pride and humility are opposite of each other, and the best place to be is between the two points. If you wander too far toward pride, you’ll become self-centered and vain. If you move too closely toward humility, however, you can lose your sense of self and forget your value. Neither extremity is healthy.”
She’s frustrated and she doesn’t really know why. “I’m not any more special than anyone else,” she says.
“You don’t know how special you are,” he counters. “Kendra Sorenson, handmaiden to the Fairy Queen. Kendra Sorenson, slayer of Gorgrog the Demon King. Kendra Sorenson, who treatied with the Underking. Kendra Sorenson, who has worn one of the five crowns. Kendra Sorenson, sister of Seth Sorenson, who together are the Siblings of Day and Night. Kendra Sorenson, who has solved complicated riddles and puzzles, who has bravely volunteered and sacrificed her comfort and safety in order to bring peace to the world on multiple occasions. Kendra Sorenson, who loves her family with her whole heart, who will stop what she’s doing and interrupt her routine to help someone in need. Kendra Sorenson, my personal savior twice over.
“Every time you are faced with a challenge, you find a way to rise above it,” Bracken continues. “I have no doubt - not a single one - that this challenge will result in success for you.”
He places a reassuring hand on her shoulder and looks into her eyes with such sincerity that Kendra feels her face warm. They stare at each other for several long moments, and then Kendra relaxes her body and falls into his embrace.
“Thank you,” she mumbles as tears fall from her eyes once more. She quakes, and his arms wrap around her more tightly. “Thank you.”

fablehaven sexy man march madness bracket
Now let me explain…
1. This was made before the first poll closed and I am sticking to it even if it is now incorrect.
2. I will put a ✅ or an ❌ if the prediction was correct or incorrect.
Ahem…
First Round
Ronodin must win. The Sphinx is no sexy man. I think this one is self-explanatory. ✅
Come on, guys. Dale? Dale versus my first literary crush and absolute charmer Warren? Warren is everything a sexy man can be. Charming, handsome, funny, a little fruity at times—ideal man. Ideal Tumblr man ✅
Again, easy one. Navarog is such a strong contender. He is young, he is twink. He is again someone my young self would have absolutely blasted across all of your feeds if I had tumblr. Celebrant is great—but not great enough. ✅
Okay, I saw the results for this. I am disappointed, Fablehaven fandom. Hugo over Raxtus? Imagine a fairy boy raxtus anime drawing. That has such tumblr potential. Hugo—big dirt baby. Adorable dirt baby. But not a sexy man. ❌
Now, Bracken and Garreth is tough. Because logically I do know that Bracken is the number one love interest. However, I feel, in my heart, that if Fablehaven was much bigger and had a screen presence maybe, Garreth would be the best friend everyone would want to see Kendra with. Sure, does he have any personality in canon? No. And that is absolutely perfect for Tumblr sexy man. He can be anything you want. He is baby girl and sexy man all at once. Now, as we head into the runoff for this one, I am counting on you all. (this one was a tie) (Also, I have written literally the only two works on ao3 that have Garreth in them so I do in fact feel a personal stake in this) (please)
Patton and Tanu. Tanu is amazing, but Patton, again, guys, let’s think back to your first read as maybe a young one. Maybe it was just me, but Patton was literally dream guy in big, cursive letters. He may have lost the sexy man competition, but he has a place in my heart. ❌
Errol and Mr. Lich is interesitng because they’re both dependent on very little canon screen time. I would even say that Errol probably has more. But I am thinking of a Fablehaven show, and I am thinking of the edits of Mr. Lich standing silently beside the Sphinx and edits that like zoom in on the brief touches between the two. Anyway ✅
For Newel and Doren, I honestly have no feelings. In my head, the only difference is that Newel got rabies in the second or third book (third. I think. GOTSP) and Doren didn’t. I think Doren is more baby girl and Newel is more “oh god, what is that?” Either way, it’s a coin toss for me. I guess it just depends if people were into Newel in rabid mode. ✅
Now it’s harder to go past the first round, seeing as some of my predictions were already wrong. However, I will give my case for what I think are the strongest contenders.
In order of weakest to strongest:
As aforementioned, Patton is dreamboat, at least in my memory. Let’s forget all the thinking I did after i first read it about the coercion in him and Lena’s relationship and instead focus on how I felt before I examined the book at all. And how I felt was enamored! Super cool guy, but I think what is holding him back is his age. And that we see him super old. Kind of kills the attraction.
Next, Warren. Warren is literally sexy man. He is the sexy man before Navarog shows up. Because let’s be real, when I first read that Kendra had that little crush on him, I wasn’t thinking “oh my god, he’s your cousin!” That wasn’t even crossing my mind. I was thinking, me too girl!
Now, we have Navarog. Gavarog. My sweet baby boy Gavin. Gavin is a stuttering love interest that turns out to be a demon dragon. He is literally gorgeous lovers to enemies, and if Fablehaven had any screen presence—the absolute amount of edits you would see of him would be insane. As he would deserve.
Finally, what is there to say about Ronodin? He checks every mark and I will be so incredibly surprised if we does not come out on top. He inserts sexual tension into literally any scene he’s in (no I have not read the fifth book, no I have not read that proposal scene) and he is such sexy man. So many Fablehaven characters are closer to baby girl, male wife, girl boss, but Ronodin? He is ultimate Fablehaven Sexyman

Kendra: And then the spider girl made him jump off the cliff, paralyzing him. During a LARP session.
Kendra: And then the Indiana Jones fangirl got a bunch of ghosts to haunt her. So she forced a guy to eat psychic drug-honey in order to kill her.
Kendra: And then a different friend blew up her magic cue ball, which took out her eightfold eye and her arm. So she forced that friend to stare into the sun, blinding her.
Bracken: Kendra.
Bracken: You've done a lot for me and my family.
Bracken: You're a good friend and I want you to know that before I say this.
Bracken: What the fuck.

Roleswap Fablehaven AU? I'm intrigued and wish to know more
!!!!!!!!!!
Roleswap is an alternate universe Fablehaven I play in where the "roles" the different characters serve are swapped around. For example, Seth's character being our light protagonist who escapes and gets the help of the fairy queen in book 1 while Kendra fights the revenant in book 2 and acquires the shadowcharmer powers. I don't have defined swaps for most of the characters, but the idea is that the two swapped roles should be either "feel natural" or be as much of a foil to each other as possible.
Other swaps I have thought about include:
Navarog <--> Raxtus
Warren <--> Vanessa
Lena <--> Patton
Bracken <--> Ronodin
Of course not every character has a foil or a natural duality in Fablehaven. Dale is hovering around in swap space forever until I find a funny spot to put him. And I'm sort of lukewarm on how much of the world I want to swap. For example should the Fairy Queen take on the role of villain? She isn't as much of a character as she is a worldbuilding piece, and so much rewritting to lore would have to happen if I wanted to keep her in character while also being the entity trapped in Zzyzx.
Another thing thats specific to "my" role swap is that I want to try to keep everyone's backstories as close to the same as possible. Seth is still the younger rascal sibling for example, he just made a different decision and this timeline went off the rails. Raxtus isn't a demon dragon in this timeline, he's just slightly meaner and angry enough at his dad that he would side with the society.
My most intense backstory change would probably be that the Bracken and Ronodin backstory proceeds as normal but Bracken actually finds Ronodin before the total corruption occurs, and is so jaded by trying to hunt down his cousin (he doesn't want to kill him but his mom is insisting that the stasis of the fairy realm needs to remain perfect) and experiencing the mortal and demonic realms that he winds up taking his place in whatever ritual went down to solidify Ronodin's corruption, and now the two of them are angry at each other forever because neither of them really wanted to be in this position. (Ronodin semi-unwillingly redeemed and Bracken semi-unwillingly corrupted). Idk how Ronodin wound up in Sphinx babyjail though.
Anyways its also an excuse to give Kendra more screentime in my brain. She deserves to kill people :3c
#fablehaven#dragonwatch#roleswap au#thank you for letting me ramble about my toys!!!!#i want other people to try roleswapping its some much goddamn fun

champion of the titan games
chapter 1: paradise
never in a million years did i even FATHOM that one day we would get to witness the beauty of the fairy realm. 12 y.o me reading the first book would have been on their knees. there’s sth abt the way brandon mull described the place that just had me: 👀. i also think it’s beautiful how it didn’t even cross kendra’s mind to keep the fairy queen’s crown, because it truly shows what kind of person kendra really is yk. now, don’t come @ me for this, but for some reason i find the fairy king creepy??? idk how to explain it, but bad vibes is what i get from him, although i do agree with him and his choice to want to leave the fairy realm. last thing i want to mention is how bracken is treated by his parents. i get that these are times of war, but my brother in christ, it seems to me that bracken is just a mere errand boy most of the time.
chapter 2: lanfall
disclaimer: seth is my fav mc, so always take my thoughts on his chapters with a grain of biased salt. i love me some hermit trolls, they just have this “annoying younger sibling” energy and we love to see it. bubda and hermo supremacy fr. calvin didn’t do much for me so i need to “calviiin can do do sumn for mehh” to spice things up. seth was sething the entire time, striving to do things that have like a 99.9% death rate (aka, in today’s schedule: casual tourism in the troll valley) and that’s crazy, but u didn’t hear that from me, you heard from my boi hermo: “you crazy. talk to fishy. fishy crazier. listen to you”. the leviathan deserves to eat the meal of their life after putting up with this unpredictable trio playing with potatoes for god knows how long. i hope my bro rests and eats a fine ass meal.
chapter 3: danger
i don’t have much to comment tbh i didn’t enjoy this chapter much. the attack felt mostly out of place, not that it didn’t have a reason to be, but it seemed off. idk how else to describe it. on a side note though: it seems to me that knox’s personality is lacking, pretty much what i’m trying to say is that i find him to be a boring character. there is nothing for me that really draws me to him and makes me genuinely interested and that may be why i didn’t enjoy this chapter much, but it is what it is.
chapter 4: disaster
i love how kendra lowkey became a farmer lol. and how quicly she planted the seeds, like 😭 don’t u have to prep the soil and make sure that it’s compatible with the plant you’re planning to grow? anyways, baga loa is the mc here so let’s give her her moment to go off (a moment of silence). it never ceases to surprise me how creative some of these artifact names are, like bruh “harp of ages”? “sovereign skull”? idk there’s sth so simple abt them, but also realistic which makes it so effective to me. also, i love how easily persuaded kendra is, i feel like if i ask her nicely with manners just abt anything she will say yes. she is too sweet and gullible sometimes (too her own detriment: gavin flashbacks).
chapter 5: troll tavern
i loved this chapter sm. from the slave premise to the calvin expert gossip girl skills. i’m a fan of the troll tavern too and that cow cheese they have. idk if this is an unpopular opinion or not, but i honestly love seth x ronodin. to see seth as a shadow charmer prosper and nurture his skills is awesome and tbh i feel like a proud to see how much bolder seth has gotten. he has always been brave, but lately it just seems like is unstoppable, which might be because he doesn’t have anything to lose, but this is truly his calling. some of us will be doctors, some will be geologists, some your fav local bartender and seth... a legend.

OKAY I am so happy I get to talk about them. Just to preface, I have not read Land of Stories in uhh,, a while. BUT I remember some stuff that happened. It was a hyperfixation of mine wayy back while I just reread the first book of Fablehaven last week. So:
Seth Sorenson and Conner Bailey both are less on the mathematical/academic side of things when it comes to school, and they're heavily compared to their sisters very often. They were both also somewhat popular when it came to school.
Alex Bailey and Kendra Sorenson are more on the academic side of things, and they like to try and solve problems/riddles (both in the first book of both series). I don't want to give too many spoilers about either book series, so I'll leave it like that. There's also certain magical elements that make them similar in my mind.
Conner and Kendra are both a lot more hesitant about magic and magic-adjacent things than Seth and Alex are. There's also a large piece of plot in both books that revolve around grandparents and other relatives.
Other than that, I would definitely make connections between Rook (Land of Stories) and Gavin (Fablehaven) and then Bracken (Fablehaven) and Bree Cambell (Land of Stories) but those are large spoiler items in both book series, so that's all I'll say on that.
There's so much more I could say but a lot of it is also just based on the feelings of each of the characters (and some personal headcannons I guess). They just have a lot of similarities to each other and match up in different ways. I love being given excuses so then I can talk about them
Sometimes I'll just think of insane crossovers with characters I like despite fully knowing no one has read any of these combinations of books, nor would they ever interact. Like, I could go on and on about the similarities between the Bailey and Sorenson siblings (Land of Stories and Favlehaven) or I could go on about three different Jacks from different books (Half Upon A Time, Mighty Jack, Jack Blank). I could look at Nova Artino and Alex Knight (Renegades and The Cloak Society) and while they're for very different ages there's similarities. Alex from Alex Rider and Carson from Codename Zero would likely never interact but by God do I think about it. I could name so many: The Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas Flamel, Seven Wonders, Revenge of Magic, Beyonders, The Lies of Locke Lamora, etc, etc, etc. I am going insane over so many different books that have little semblance of connection, saying they each have pieces of one another within. And these fanbases (if there are even a fanbase for each of these books) would rarely ever interact.
So I'm just left here, reading books in my pajamas, deranged

hi i would like to add even MORE angst to the mttt au so here it is : one day when anakin is tinkering with his lightsaber, or just paying more attention to it than usual he realizes that Luke used it for a while. anakin first breaks down because he remembers cutting off lukes hand with this lightsaber in it, and then he breaks down again because even if he only had like 2-3 in person conversations with his son, and he still misses him like crazy
More angst is always good! You know, this prompted me to look up whether Anakin had lost his ‘saber during clone wars and apparently not??? I am disappointed, all these “Anakin constantly loses his ‘saber” jokes just don’t hit the same anymore.
But yeah, I think Anakin pretty much hands Obi-Wan his lightsaber as soon as he sets his eyes on it. Obi-Wan thinks its more of a “I can’t protect myself right now so I trust you to do it” gesture since entrusting your lightsaber to somebody else is a huge important thing for Jedi. From Anakin’s side it’s actually “if I ever go Sith again, kill me”.
Thinking about it, Anakin probably constructs a new lightsaber once he is ready for battle. He has changed so much, the crystal just doesn’t fit him anymore. I think that would also quite nicely mirror Luke’s progression, letting go of his father’s lightsaber. And this Anakin, at first at least, is working minimum 80% based on “I have to make Luke proud, I have to keep proving him right, I have to be as good as he thought I could be”. He’s devastated he’s never going to meet his son again, the child who was even more perfect than Padmé and he imagined, the child he hurt so much in his anger and desperation- Yeah, thoughts of Luke are bittersweet. I don’t Anakin would breakdown because of him, at least not this soon, but he definitely wouldn’t want to keep using this lightsaber anyway. Pretty much feel like Anakin’s inner mental state when thinking of Luke can be summed up with Sleeping at Last’s Light
I'll give you everything I have / I'll teach you everything I know / I promise I'll do better / I will always hold you close / But I will learn to let you go / I promise I'll do better / I will soften every edge / I'll hold the world to its best, / And I'll do better / With every heartbeat I have left / I will defend your every breath, / And I'll do better
Back to the lightsaber though! I’m thinking, what color would his new ‘saber have then? I’m thinking yellow/orange, but I’m open for all suggestions given there’s a good explanation attached.

i saw your fake! married trope post and i’m begging you to write something where the senate makes padmé and anakin be fake married for a mission, so they have to pretend to be married while concealing the fact that they are actually married. if you don’t want to that’s cool too! i just love your writing and i’d love to see you write the prompt! 💜💜💜
Since I love the fake!married trope, I’ve already started writing a Star Wars spin on this idea! This ficlet follows love and politics.
“Bail, you can’t be serious with this,” Padme Amidala said, once she had collected her wits after her friend and colleague’s stunning idea.
“But I am,” Bail said, his voice gentle. “I speak from experience--an arranged marriage isn’t all bad. And after what Alderaan went through during Ascendancy Contention, I saw how my marriage to Breha united Alderaan behind us. Healed the wounds between my people.”
Padme sighed softly. “I know how successful your marriage has been, for Alderaan and for the galaxy, Bail. And I’m very glad you and Breha have created happiness out of politics. But . . . marrying a Jedi? Me?”
Never mind that the idea of marrying a Jedi wasn’t nearly as foreign as she was making it sound. She could not reveal that she was already married--not when it would mean losing her seat in the Senate, not when it meant Anakin being punished, even expelled from the Order . . .
“You’re young, intelligent, talented: you represent the best of the Republic, Padme,” Bail flattered her. “When I had this idea, I knew you would be the perfect candidate.”
Sighing softly, Padme rose to her feet and turned to look out the window of her office. Her reluctance was only partially feigned. Because yes, she could acknowledge the intellectual strength of Bail’s argument. A wedding between a Senator and a Jedi would be a wonderful way to draw the galaxy together, with the Clone Wars still raging and systems leaving the Republic to join the Separatists.
But she had served as Queen of Naboo for eight years. Had been a Senator for almost four years now. She was willing to sacrifice her time, her energy, even her life towards democracy and service to the galaxy.
Must she sacrifice her heart, too? A heart that wasn’t even hers to give, since someone else held it in his hands?
Admittedly, there was no legal record of her marriage to Anakin. Their ceremony on Naboo, conducted by a holy man, held no weight in galactic law. But Padme knew she was married, even without having any legal documents to prove it.
But none of that mattered. She couldn’t do this.
Bail joined her at the window, resting a hand gently on her shoulder. “I know this is a surprise. Even a shock. But I do hope you’ll consider the idea. Especially since Master Yoda has suggested a Jedi who . . . who I believe you might be amenable to forming such a bond with.”
She blinked. “You’ve already talked to Master Yoda? He agreed to this?”
With everything Anakin had told her about the Grand Master of the Jedi Order, and from her own acquaintance with the small green Jedi, she couldn’t believe he was in favor of this idea.
“I believe Master Yoda agrees with me that the galaxy is at a critical point. The people don’t realize how much we need the Jedi, and while they’re seen as heroes of the war, no one really feels like they know them,” Bail said. “The wedding would not take place immediately. You would have enough time to establish a relationship with your prospective groom, to come to an understanding.”
Padme doubted sincerely that there was much chance of any real relationship forming between herself and a Jedi. Not when he found out she was in love with another Jedi--was married to another Jedi.
But . . . but what could she do? Perhaps the best choice would be to stall. To show she was actually considering the idea, to give her time to come up with a solution that wouldn’t involve her becoming bigamy.
“Who is Master Yoda suggesting as the groom?” she asked. “From what you’ve said, I guess it’s someone I know.” She paused and felt her heart drop. “Not Master Kenobi?”
Bail looked confused for a moment, his eyebrows drawing together. “Master Kenobi? No. Master Yoda suggested Anakin Skywalker.”
XXX
After being under the thumb of the Jedi Council for more than ten years, Anakin Skywalker knew what to expect from them. Masters Yoda and Mace disliked him and wished he had never been trained. Master Koon was kind and welcoming. Master Shaak Ti had a good sense of humor, Master Mundi was a stick in the mud, and Obi-Wan . . . Obi-Wan was his greatest defender. Always.
But standing before the Council and finding out that they wanted him to marry some Senator . . .
He had never expected anything like this.
“Unusual, it is. Times like these, unusual they are,” Master Yoda said.
“I--but--how--” Anakin flailed, looking to his Master and sensing an equal amount of shock from him.
Giving his head a shake, Anakin said, “What about the Code?”
“Exceptions have been made before,” Master Mace said, sounding like he was being forced not just to suck a lemon, but to eat it. “Master Mundi, for example.”
“I know, but--but this is different,” Anakin said, still feeling shocked.
And honestly? Pretty angry. Because how was it fair to brush aside the Code for politics but not for love?
“I must agree with Anakin,” Obi-Wan said. “It’s already nearly unprecedented for exceptions to the Code. And the reason for this exception sits poorly with me.”
“Meditate, we all must. A shock it is, acknowledge I do,” Master Yoda said. “But persuaded, I am, by Senator Organa’s arguments. And hope, I see, in this plan, from my own meditation.”
Senator Organa? Padme’s friend? Anakin did his best to keep from scowling. Trust an Alderaanian to be all smooth and sneaky.
Anakin ran a hand through his hair, giving in to the urge to show his confusion and surprise and worry. Because what if this was all a way to get rid of him? Sure, they could say they would grant him an exception to the Jedi Code, but what if he actually was seen as being attached to his wife? What then?
Of course, this was all pointless. He loved Padme--was married to Padme. There was no way he would ever love anyone other than her.
And there was no way he would give her up for some stupid political arranged marriage. Even if it made the Council trust him.
Master Shaak Ti folded her hands. “I admit, spending more time away from the Temple, among the peoples of the galaxy, has made me see how little they know about us. How misunderstood we are.”
Master Luminara nodded. “This idea of Senator Organa’s might be promising. But Master Yoda is correct: much meditation is required on this idea.”
Nodding, Master Yoda looked at Anakin. “You, especially, must meditate. Much we ask of you, young Skywalker. A sign of our belief in you, it is.”
It took everything Anakin had--every scrap of training that Obi-Wan had pounded into his head--to stay calm on the surface. He bowed, and even though he didn’t really mean it, he said, “Thank you, Master Yoda.”
Master Koon leaned forward. “If you don’t mind my asking, Master Yoda, who would Anakin be marrying, if this plan goes ahead?”
“Provide a bride, the Senate would,” Master Yoda said. “Suggested by Senator Organa, Senator Amidala is.”
If Anakin had been shocked before, now he was . . . was there a word that meant knocked ass-over-head in Basic? He knew what it would be in Huttese, but definitely not Basic.
Because he could marry Padme? Officially? In front of the whole galaxy?
He opened his mouth to agree immediately, but only caught himself in time. He couldn’t do that! Not when the Council hadn’t agreed to the idea, not when he had just acted like the idea of marriage had never crossed his mind.
But for just a moment, Anakin’s mind soared on wings higher than any starfighter could carry him. Because if this actually worked . . . he would be married to Padme for real. It would be all right for him to love her. He could live with her, see her every day, cook dinner for her . . .
Have children with her.
Anakin’s throat tightened as he thought about his dreams. Of the children with his hair and Padme’s eyes. With Padme’s warm heart and his skill with machines.
Could he really have everything he had ever wanted? The respect of the Jedi Council, a family to love, a place in the galaxy? The freedom to be the man he truly was?
Clearing his throat, Anakin said, “I will go to meditate on this at once. If the Council will excuse me.”
“Yes, yes, young Skywalker, go,” Master Yoda said. “Mediate now, we all will.”
Only taking a moment to exchange a look with Obi-Wan, who looked concerned but thoughtful, Anakin slipped out of the Council room. He kept himself under tight control, maintaining his shields to hold back the wealth of emotion sweeping over him.
It wouldn’t do to lose the chance to make all his dreams come true, just because he let slip he was already in love with Padme.
End.
