Don't get me wrong, I am sure Baldur's Gate 3 is a fantastic game (and judging by many metrics, it IS a great game), but...I just can't get over the cliff that is the rules setting. I've tried, but I love my crunchy builds too much. I enjoy getting *something significant* practically every level. I need to feel the frequent mechanical character choices guiding me into a satisfying direction. And while the characters are interesting and the world of Faerun takes me back to the my days of 2nd and 3rd ed D&D, it really comes down to my dislike of 5E as a system. As a friend asked me, because it happened to him too, "Did Pathfinder spoil you?"

And the truth is, yes, yes it did.

Maybe I'll give it another chance in the future, especially as it was a gift from someone, but for now, I find myself feeling like my character is lacking that something special and it deeplying perturbs me.

Lord Captain Xandra von Valencius, Rogue Trader of the Imperium

Following the unexpected death of Her Ladyship Theodora von Valencius and her known heir, a bladedancer named Xandra has taken the Lord Captain's seat. While she may be new to the role of Rogue Trader, Xandra von Valencius is far from a nobody. In fact, this isn't the first time she's been referred to as nobility. Prior to the reveal of her von Valencius heritage, Xandra made a name for herself as a crime lord on a hostile death world, wrangling the scattered pirates into a formidable fleet. Rumor says she ruled ruthlessly until she was captured by a rival gang. No one knows what happened to her in the 3 months she was missing, but when she returned, having single-handedly slaughtered the entire gang responsible for her capture, Xandra was changed. Having attracted much attention with her recent ascension to Lord Captain, it seems that Her Ladyship is eager not to fall into enemy hands. In addition to Xandra's own skills with blades, rumor says that she is accompanied by an eerie death cultist who never leaves her side. Will the new Rogue Trader grow the dynasty's glory, or will she be the reason the von Valencius name is struck from the history books? Time will tell if the skills she used to gain and keep control of her criminal empire will serve her well as Lord Captain. If you couldn't tell by the top half of this post, I started playing Warhammer 40k: Rogue Trader a couple weeks ago. I bought the game on my birthday because it just happened to be on sale, and in the past 2 weeks I've racked up 31 hours. Which isn't much compared to my playtime in WotR when I first started playing, but it's pretty impressive given my workload. I've been having a ton of fun!! This is Xandra, and yes, she's a (space) pirate who was captured and tortured. I have a type, apparently.

I imagine that the 2nd outfit (the long coat) is her adventuring outfit (lots of pockets plus belts for weapons and such), and the other more uniform-looking outfit is her "ceremonial" outfit. (She's never going to get more formal than that.)

Also, if anyone else plays Rogue Trader and hasn't played the Void Shadows DLC, I highly recommend it. Kibellah is awesome, and the Bladedancer archetype is SO much fun to play. (Yes, I'm running a party that's 1/3rd Bladedancer Assassins. Surprisingly, it works really well. They are VERY efficient little murder machines.)

BBC Merlin is a DnD game.

Merlin is the dungeonmaster.

All the other players can be whatever you want them to be. Arthur is most likely a paladin. He's not entirely sure how to play the game in the beginning, but the more he gets into it, the more he opens up.

One day, as they all play a bit drunkly, Arthur takes an example of Gwaine, who is the bard and tries to sleep with literally EVERYTHING. Arthur lets loose and plays to those rules.

The problem is, Merlin is the one playing each and every character they interact with. So, whenever Arthur flirts with another character, Merlin is the one responding. And Arthur, who already has been fighting with his crush on the guy, falls deeper and deeper for him during the game.

More dnd writing because it's all I have but I here's a snippet from a vignette I did of Rook's past (from Zara's POV), because Rook and his mentors never fails to make me sick (/pos).

Taking a coin out of her pocket, she rolled it across her knuckles, back and forth. It gave her hands something to do, and prevented the urge to bite her nails, something she hadn’t done in years. Ten minutes passed, then twenty. Zara began to pace as Rook’s breathing grew shakier and the color drained from his skin. Where the hells is Jay? she wondered. The room was so quiet that she could hear every tick of the small clock on her bedside table, and each one echoed in her head. How many ticks does he have left? She didn’t want to think about it.  She’d had crew members die before, of course. You don’t go as many years as a captain as she had and never lose a soul. But all the others who had died had died quickly, in combat. She’d mourned for all of them, even shed tears in private, but there was something different about watching the life drain out of a person right in front of your eyes.
