What the actual fuck, Larry David.

So I heard about it, but didn't watch it until now. Holy shit it's even worse than I thought. What the fuck is wrong with that guy? Elmo is, like, the best friend to multiple generations of children, and is currently putting mental health and caring for others in the spotlight.

And Larry Fucking David ... did ... that? And thought it was going to be ... funny?

What an asshole. What a stupid, self-centered, tone deaf asshole.

Hey, fucko: First of all, you aren't even in the segment, but you just decided to barge in and draw focus because ... why? You couldn't stand that a puppet brought people together in a meaningful way that you can't? You couldn't stand that your appearance on national television to promote your wildly successful series was delayed for a few seconds while the adults talked about mental health?

I really want to know what raced through his tiny little mind, and why there was no voice or person who spoke up to stop him.

You know who is watching the Today show with their parents? Kids who also watch Sesame Street. Elmo is an avatar for children all over the world. Children who are too small to understand Elmo is a puppet will know that a man attacked him for no reason, and that will frighten them.

Elmo inspired a deeply meaningful and important moment of collective support among disparate people who have been struggling through the traumas of a pandemic, daily mass shootings, the rise of fascism and everything associated with Trump's violence and cruelty.

And shitty idiot Larry David couldn't stand it, for some reason. He had to indirectly tell everyone who opened their hearts to a Muppet that they were stupid, and he thought it was a good joke to physically attack and choke this character who is beloved by children and adults alike.

I've been bored by and totally over Larry David's brand of being an asshole to everyone because they had the temerity to exist around him since the day it started. It was easy to just ignore him. But this thing he did was hurtful, it wasn't funny, and his bullshit non-apology tells all of us everything we need to know about him.

Larry David strikes me as a person who mocks and belittles people who are vulnerable and sensitive, who is cruel because he enjoys it and is untouchable. Maybe I'm wrong, but that's who I see whenever I can't find the remote and he's on my television.

By contrast, Elmo and the Muppets teach and model that kindness and empathy aren't weak or stupid or any of the things people like Larry David and my dad think they are. Elmo and the Muppets teach children to be gentle and kind, to celebrate our different cultures and to embrace all of our complicated feelings.

I hope that, when the dust settles, Larry David's appalling behavior will be a footnote to a larger story about how, for just one day, a Muppet made a difference by helping all of us who are struggling feel just a little less alone and anxious.

So, I've missed #Koopaling #Week for about five years in a row, but this time I didn't want to so I decided to make a quick little thing for each of my guys. But, since I've always wanted an excuse to share these thoughts on the internet, on each thing I will also be including a little spiel about my own interpretations of their characters, which are a synthesis of dubious-smelling but officially-licensed materials, 2000s koopaling fansites, and years of playing pretend. So don't go citing any of these in your mario research papers. Perchance.

First, the baby of the bunch: LARRY!  Larry is the runt of the litter (besides bowser jr, because yes i am a King Dad Truther), and he's constantly getting the short end of the stick. He didnt even get a cool punk musician as his namesake, he "just looked like a larry". Because he is the runt he was constantly overlooked as a child, which enabled him to develop a real sneaky streak in cheating and stealing and doing generally underhanded things while nobody noticed. He loves gaming and eating and actung like a 14yo boy but he also has some deeper interests as well. For example he is very into tennis, of course at which he cheats, but he loves it. In mario and sonic at the olympics he also discovered that he has a passion for equestrian sports, which is really, really, really, really, funny. In my head he is voiced by Rob Paulsen.

hello my name is gwen chobani and i cannot cook. for the life of me i make the worst food ever. most things i make my brother spits out in horror. it is a painful thing, being so bad in the kitchen. no one understands me but Beyoncé. I'm also a lifelong Muppet stan.

well, lo and behold, Miss Piggy (my feminist hero) has a cookbook filled with celebrities' recipes (or moreso, their private chefs recipes probably.) it was published in 1996 and was for some charity idk. there's also a jab at Oprah and some pretty damn funny/cute little musings about dinner parties n shit.

well, I've decided to channel my inner Amy Adams and go through every recipe in this book to teach me how to cook, Julie & Julia style. Miss Piggy will teach me. she will guide me. she will save me. i would both kill and die for her.

the first recipe i decided to try was Larry King's Favorite Tuna Health Salad. i picked it as the first one because it seemed the easiest, seeing as there's no need to use the stove or oven.

i misread the ingredient list and added way too much tomato and bell pepper, tho oddly enough it could've stood to use even more celery than i ended up using even tho i used "too much."

while chopping the onion i realized "there's no fucking way i gotta put a whole onion in this thing" and well i was finally correct. it was just supposed to be 2 tablespoons lol.

anyway i made it and it was nasty imo. the white wine vinegar was too much. a 1/4 cup?? ludicrous. and not enough whipped dressing. if i make this again I'd put it way less vinegar and more dressing, and leave out the tomatoes because i find them psychologically disturbing.

my brother actually really liked it tho?? interesting. life is strange.

First off, here is them guys playing cards. And, now to explain my choices lol

Let's start with Colin! I took some inspiration from his drag show appearance but added a lot more stuff to it. If I colored it in, it would have bright, flashy colors (almost like a raver type outfit). In the digital world, you can basically make yourself wear whatever you want, even if it doesn't make sense. I personally really like to add a lot of detail to my art, and that's what I was going for with Colin. Also, the extra hands/arms can disappear at will. His design is also inspired by Emoticon/FIAB from Lapfox (this is gonna be a theme I've realized).

Now to Larry! He's a Lapfox reference for the most part (aka. His sweater). When I said that you could make your digital form whatever you want, Larry just decided to make itself a Lapfox reference. Am I projecting my Lapfox hyper fixation? Yes. Also, he's a sheep in his digital form because sheep are usually related to sleep, like counting them is an exercise to make yourself tired. There isn't really an inspiration for the star antennae, I just felt like it was cool and it fit.

Doctor Who: Redacted

So, more than a year after the release of this audio series, I've decided to give it a go. I've listened to the trailer and so far it's great! I'll give each episode a review and publish it all when I'll have listened to the whole piece.

If you don't wanna get spoiled, you might want to skip the ep by ep review straight to the end of the post to read my overall opinion on the series.

Episode One: SOS

The episodes are pretty short, so I felt like this one went very quickly. Nothing much happens however there's already so much mystery and interrogations, I'm already hooked! There's also quite an important amount of background development for at least one the main characters. I find it really easy to like them from this first episode only since they are written and acted so naturally. I already love Cleo, whom I guess is the main character. Shawna and Abby are just a lovely little funny duet that works really well, and oh my god, Shawna's clearly in love with Abby, I can't wait to hear more about that.

I liked that L.I.N.D.A. was mentioned since the setting is really similar to this iconic story and it kind of makes it canon that the L.I.N.D.A. organisation survived the Love and Monsters events.

Also, oh my my my, I LOVE Rani I can't wait to hear more of her in the next episodes, I didn't know she was in this!

Episode 2: Hysteria

Oh this one was great as well! Certainly not as good as the first one in terms of character work, but there's a lot happening!

The references to the previous events from the TV show are great but also so frightening because you can really see the consequences of these events on the lives of the direct witnesses. I guess the two characters we met so far are the ones we see in the actual episodes (that journalist girl in Partners in Crime and that doctor who gets interviewed at the end of Smith and Jones). The latter one's story is pretty sad, I wish I could have given him a hug :(

Can't wait to hear the next one!

Episode 3: Lost

Oooooh some answers! But more questions...

It's really getting a lot more mysterious and I'm completely involved in the plot!

I don't have much more to say at this point, let's see what Episode 4 brings!

Episode 4: Angels

Yay! A whole episode referencing Blink! The return of Larry! With clothes hopefully this time!

Apparently he's not married to Sally, as the end of Blink pointed towards a romance between the two characters, but that's fine.

He said the Doctor's turning against them. What does it meeeaaaaan???

It's great to have the girls altogether in one place, even though now they seem to be in a bad position... I'm turning on the next one right away, I need to know what happens next!

Episode 5: Interrogation

I'm glad it was just UNIT because now we got to have Kate again and that is GREAT!

Also, Cleo is such a badass, she slayed this whole episode.

The tension kept going up throughout every interrogation until the climax, and just when you thought the episode couldn't be more interesting than it already was, this enigmatic guy comes in and makes Cleo speak out her bad bitch speech.

Episode 6: Recruits

A lot happens in there! Finally the Doctor appears briefly, the team is arguing, what is going ON???

The soft reveal about Cleo's father means he met the Doctor, maybe he's someone we know from the show, or a victim of one of the events from the show.

Too many questions!

Can't wait for episode 7!

Episode 7: Requiem

Oh the Doctor's finally back.

So much happens but at the same time so little does. There's only three episodes left, we've barely heard the Doctor, we have no answers...

I don't know if it gets me hooked or frustrated but I need more! All I know is that time flies by when I'm listening to this, the dialogues are superb, amazing writing and direction. It kind of makes me want to read Dawson's books!

Episode 8: Ghosts

This one was proper scary! So Requiem was Madam Vastra? I'm kind of sad they couldn't get Neve McIntosh to come back for the part but it helped not spoiling the reveal to me so that's a win I guess.

I know that there's a second series but I kind of hope the story gets wrapped up by the end of this one so that it makes a whole. We'll see!

Episode 9: Rescue

WE KNOW MORE

Actually we don't know a lot but we do know more. It's great!

I was NOT expecting Cleo to be Redacted and it's really an interesting twist that may give the finale a lot of work to do.

I can't wait to here about it!

Episode 10: Salvation

Oh the finale was so good, I didn't expect such a satisfying ending.

Cleo not joining the Tardis makes a lot of sense because she has a lot to deal with at home, she has to reconnect with her mother and learn to forgive her and herself for what they did to each other, it's not an adequate moment to fly off in the universe.

I'm glad I could finally hear 13 a bit more, and she was as great as always.

Abby and Shawna!!!!!!!!! Finally!!!!!! I wasn't sure their relationship was going to end up this way so I'm happy for them!

How lucky were we to have this last year! And to think I only caught up with this now! It's a wonderful piece of free media from the Whoniverse in a very well known format for the fans, but directed in such a fresh brilliant modern way! It's important to mention how important this piece is to the LGBTQIA+ community, because the main director and producer, the main writer and the members of the main cast are all part of our community. I, as a cis gay man, am not represented (I think) in this play, but it was still so emotional to me to see such bold and open trans and sapphic representation. I love that for our community and in hard times like these, it's great to be reminded that safe spaces exist. And if like for me, your safe space is just anything Doctor Who related, you know that despite the bigotry you may find around you, Doctor Who is there and cares about you.

Storywise, it's clearly written by fans, for fans, and they meddle, they play with the TV show's events, I love it, I absolutely adore it. Some parts of the story feel more hard-hitting than others do, but the overall arc is just brilliant.

It's a timing coincidence that I started listening to this less than a week before the release of the second series but honestly I'm not sure if I'll give it a go considering how Ella Watts was kicked out of the production without a word and being replaced by James Goss (whom I love) who certainly does not have a hard time finding his voice in the Whoniverse. I don't understand this decision and I'm really disappointed. Watts apparently responded with class and dignity but I'll have to say that the BBC are kind of backstabbing her after she created the whole project that was so successful in the end. Just... not cool...

I like Goss' works so maybe I'll listen to it some day, but I think I need to process the info first.

To end on a much more positive note: listen to this. You need no knowledge of any other spin off or eu stuff, and it's free on the BBC app worldwide. You're in for a great time if you haven't listened to it already.

Lmao about to jump on your bbg discussion here. My issue with the scenario of ending with a paternity test has always been that GP will always still believe that he at the very least, slept with a woman. I was under the impression during 1D years, particularly the later years with RBB, that H and L wanted to eventually come out as a couple, thus the hinting about Larry. Obviously things can change over the years and perhaps they don't want that anymore, but if they do, then the only way to actually do that and have it make sense is to literally tell the truth as the ending. Like a legit tell all about being forced into the closet, the beards, the fake pregnancy, everything. Because he can't logically say "I thought this hookup gave me a kid for the past 8 years" and "H and I have been together since 2010" and not have people be ??? But do you think coming out with the legit truth is ever possibility at all? Or no matter what, will people always think some aspects of the stunts were true? As I said though, maybe H and L don't really care at this point, they know larries know the truth? Just something I've thought about a lot!

Helloooo anon! Lovely to hear your thoughts and thanks for joining in the discussion! I’ll try and break this down a bit into main points so I don’t ramble about everything all at once and it ends up illegible hehe.

Alrighty, so I think that the GP always thinking louis had slept with a woman because of bbg ending in a paternity result is what it is. As long as it stops the stunt, that’s what matters to him and to us. This is a Step 1 of the coming out process, and once those headlines die down about it, then it’s deciding how H and L come out. In my opinion, there are a few ways this could go after bbg ends:

a) harry comes out first, Louis comes out months later (long enough for it to not be immediately connected by gp), then they start being seen together and a “new” relationship between them is seeded and say they’ve never been together until now

b) louis and harry come out together in a relationship, say they’ve never been together until now

c) louis and harry come out together in a relationship, say they’ve been together since 1d, and expose all the stunts by breaking their NDAs

Now… all 3 of these options work with the narrative of a paternity test. In all options, they are still able to define their sexuality as whatever they want it to be when they come out, but will obviously lean towards both of them at least having previous interest in women. Louis could be like “yeah I always thought I was straight but I did some soul searching and realised I’m gay” and harry could stick with the assumption held by the GP already that he is bi, or say something similar to the above.

I assume option A is how things are gonna go, because B links too closely to C and doesn’t line up with the current narrative of them being weirdos on opposite sides of the planet to each other at all times lol. Ideally, option C would be extremely satisfying and would give both of them incredible PR, and bring S*mon and co to their knees, but that truly depends on what H and L think they wanna do, and how big of a war they wanna keep fighting.

Hear me out here now… I’ve talked about multiple ways to end bbg in the past, but what if Louis was just like.. a sperm donor? Very early on in bbg there was a theory that B was a surrogate for H and L, but that definitely doesn’t add up. This theory, however, would require louis to come out at the same time as bbg ending, all in one go, and it also keeps F as his son which isn’t ideal, but separates him more from it in terms of sexuality. But hear me out… what if there was a headline that looked like this?

“Louis Tomlinson announces he donated his sperm in generous act for good friend B whose long term partner struggled with fertility issues”

While this headline looks a bit funny to us, I think the GP won’t question it thaaaaat much. His direct non larrie fans would, because they have seen AOTV, they’ve seen louis call F his son multiple times, but… in this narrative, he IS his son, he’s just not having sex with women because he’s gay lol, and he’s just a sweet guy, ya know? And things could be broken down a little like:

“Tomlinson, 32, says that he loves F and was happy to help B out as he’d always wanted to be a father himself, but has announced to the world just this morning, that he is in fact gay.”

It’s frustrating because in a way, it ends bbg, but it also keeps F connected to Louis to a degree. Ugh. Idk. But that is how you would ensure that the GP don’t have proof that louis has had vaginal sex anymore.

To your point about harry and louis doing a tell all, it would rock the music industry like crazy. Imagine it!!! There would be a million other celebs wanting to come out and share their stories of how badly they’re treated too, and people would be on Larry’s side. It would be powerful. It would help stop what happened to them, happen to other young gay kids. And it would ruin S*mons life, which I love. But… I think a tell all will happen, but not for a long time. I would love it to happen now, trust me I would, but I feel they’re still in too much of a sticky situation with bbg and Harry’s stunts.

I think larry see what we say, they love that we know, and they care a lot about us. But truly I think they’d love to show the world their true colours. Harry’s dancing with pride flags and is MUCH more free now in expressing himself, and I think he would actually wait for louis to be in a position where they can come out together, to take the heat off just one of them doing it. I think they’d love to walk down the street and hold hands and be cute, because they were told for so many years they couldn’t. And being told you can’t, makes you really want to. So I think they’ll do it together, and I think they want to. In saying this though, I do agree with the theory that they decided to put coming out on the back burner for a little bit while they enjoyed their tours and let the dust settle a bit after so much happening, and are just enjoying their private love life while they’re older and have a bit more freedom. But they’ll come back with a vengeance, and they’ll come out together. I’m sure of it xx

he looked at me, concerned. "Yeah..?" we were on my bed. my room was nearly empty now, boxes piled in the closet. I wonder how he hadn't noticed or never even brought it up. I looked out my window, the same window I had looked out of every day for the past 13 years. the sunset stayed just as beautiful as the first.

"I'm moving."

sal felt his heart drop. "You're staying in town, right?" he pleaded. he gently grabbed my hand. my heart ached, I didn't want to leave my best friend. he was my rock, and I wasn't sure I could live laugh love without him.

"No." I croaked.

sal giggled. "you're funny, you really know how to give me a fucking heart attack." he pushed my hand away from him.

"I'm not shitting you. look around my room, sal." I was being harsh but I was so very scared.

he hesitated before looking around, knowing he was about to be proven wrong. "oh." he replied.

"yeah."

sal rubbed his eye and wiped his hand on his pants. "are we going to be okay?" sal asked cautiously.

I laughed quietly. "if you think you can get rid of me that easily, you're crazy."

he wrapped his arm around my shoulders and rested his head. he let out a shaky sigh. "we can be pen pals?"

"duh." I exclaimed.

"Where are you moving to?"

I hugged my knees to my chest as I zoned out. ever since that night, I've felt too guilty to even look sal in the eye: guilty because I let him touch me again. I knew I should've talked to sal about it. part of me screamed that if I told him, sal would hurt me. but I knew that wasn't sal, sal wasn't Shawn. he was gentle, maybe too gentle at times. so much more gentle than shawn could've ever been. the though of him made me sick, even saying his name felt like vomit. I never realized how much I missed sal until he was back in my arms. now, I can't live without him.

Yet another day at the lake with Sal, Larry, Ash, Todd, and Neil. I mean, was there anything better to do in this boring ass town? I sat at the edge of the water, contemplating wether or not I should tell Sal. Anxiety resonated in me as I decided I should talk to Sal about it. He's been unconditionally loving, but I still feel like he's angry. I sat on the trunk of Ash's car watching as Ash and Larry fought, trying to drown each other. Although my head was pounding, a smile still managed to creep up on my face. The sun wasn't blazing, surprisingly, so I knew the water was probably freezing.

Staying clean was like holding my breath, and every relapse was choking me like chains wrapped around my neck. With every hit, snort, temptation; they got tighter.

I watched as Sal flipped his soaking hair over his shoulder. "So sassy!" I called to him.

He looked over at me and put his hand on his waist, popping out his hip. "I know, right?" He said in a girly voice.

I rolled my eyes and giggled.

"I love you."

"I love you more!" He replied, still using his feminine voice.

Ash made a gagging noise. "That's you and Larry," Sal teased.

"Me gagging?!" She exclaimed. Sal nodded. "Ew! Stooop! That's Y/n on you, don't even."

"Yeah, for sure later tonight!" I called.

Sal's ears turned bright red. "Oh my God, it was supposed to be a comeback! You guys are impossible!"

Sal came up on the shore shivering. He leaned against the car next to me. "Hey, babe."

"Hi, Sally Face, you done in the water?"

"I thought I'd go back in with you if you wanted to come." He turned away from the lake and took off his mask to wipe his face.

"Okay, I'll come with you." I paused. "I'm sorry."

"For what? You didn't do anything." His voice muffled as he strapped his mask back on.

"Relapsing. I don't remember what happened after I did but I know you were there. Me overdosing was a sign. I'm really done this time."

"You don't need to apologize. Relapse is part of recovery. I know you're strong, Y/n, but I also can't lose someone else to addiction. Just seeing my dad drink is hard." He put his wet hair in a ponytail.

"Thank you so much, Sal." Was all I could mutter out. "I just don't want you to be mad at me."

"I could never be mad, especially over something like this." His eyes squinted, signalling that he was smiling. I smiled back.

Sal gave me a piggy back ride as we made our way into the water. I yelped when the freezing water hit my body. I wrapped my legs around Sal tighter, making him chuckle.

"Don't be such a pussy, Y/n!" Larry teased, splashing me with water.

"You're such a cunt!" I said, pushing myself off Sal's shoulders and on to Larry, shoving him back into the lake.

Larry came up screaming and sputtering, "You killed me!" He squeezed his eyes shut, moving his arms around like a zombie before gripping my shoulders and violently shaking me.

"Ew, get off me!" I laughed hysterically.

I laid in Sal's bed on my stomach, close to crying about the sunburn I earned today. My legs wereshed across Sal's lap as he consoled me.

"Why didn't you put on sunscreen, love?" He questioned me while trying to hold back a chuckle.

"'Cause I wasn't planning on getting in!" I grumbled.

"Okay." He moved my legs off his lap. He walked out of the room and came back with after sun lotion.

"Awe, Sally." I cooed as I sat up. "Here, let me put some o-"

"No, let me do it."

"Okay, why?" I asked him.

"Because I love you," he said quietly.

I smirked and kissed his prosthetic lips. "Okay." I smiled sweetly.  He helped me gently lift up my shirt and and started to apply the lotion.

"Remember when you did this for me in, like, 2nd grade, or something close to that." I could hear the small smile in his voice.

"Dad, my sunburn hurts!" Baby Sal cried out. It was so hot in New Jersey that his moist thighs stuck to the hot leather seat, nearly melting and fusing himself with the seat.

"I know, son. We're almost home. I told you to reapply!" Henry scolded.

"I did!" Sal sassily drug out the I. I was in the seat next to him, giggling at his attitude.

Sal dramatically crawled on his hands and knees. I tapped his ass with my foot. "What are you doing, silly!"

"Heyyy!" He groaned.

"You're so weird!"

"Y/n, sweetie, I have to head to work, it's an emergency. Would you mind putting medicine on Sal's burn?" He begged, tossing his bag over his shoulder. What a main character.

"Yeah, of course Mr. Fisher!" I grinned happily and took the lotion into the living room where Sal was sulking.

His bare back was up towards the ceiling but his head was turned towards the TV which was playing a cartoon with a fat yellow man eating a pink donut. I sighed and sat down next to him. "I gotta put this lotion on your back, Sally."

He groaned. "Y/n!" He whined.

"Don't be a baby! It won't hurt."

"But your hands are going to be so cold!"

"Oh, hush!" I silenced him, gently rubbing the lotion on his scorching red skin.

i met sal and larry in the basement. their matching sanity's fall shirts made me giggle. Larry looked like the big green giant next to my 5"6' sal.

"Larry, how many green beans have you eaten recently?" I questioned, giving him a once over.

"oh, don't even trip. I've been eating more than just green beans. ive been eating hella pussy, too." he fought back with a sly smirk.

"ew, lar, too much information." I rolled my eyes.

"hashtag tmi!" sal exclaimed in a girly voice.

"that was random." Larry snorted as we made out way up to the 5th floor. "so, y/n. there's this girl named Megan, she lives in the bathroom up here. she's a ghost." Larry rambled.

"did you seriously just spoil that surprise?" sal mumbled, staring down at his gear boy.

Larry's eyebrows raised, almost touching hid receding hairline. "shit, sorry, dude! there's not a ghost girl named Megan who's 7 and has purple hair." Larry dismissed me by waving his hand.

"Larry, shut the fuck up! she can learn about Megan herself. I don't want y/n to get bored." sal scolded Larry.

we walked into the last apartment on the 5th floor. the heavy smell of aged wallpaper and musk filled my nose. I scrunched my nose. I looked around the dimly lit room. the window was boarded up as well as another door at the very end of the room.

sal took a beautifully designed key out of his pocket and unlocked the bathroom door. I followed the duo cautiously. sal stood confidently in the middle of the room, seemingly waiting for something to happen. soon enough, his gearboy began to glow green as it vibrated in his hands.

a mass of translucent flesh and bone began to form from the floor. I watched horrified as the squelches of organs reincarnating filled my ears. the girl that nke stood in front of me held a goofy smile om her face. her expression softened as her cloudy eyes landed on sal.

"Hi, Sally Face! hi larry!"

"what's up, little lady." larry smiled, giving her a fist bump.

"Hey, Megan. you said you wanted to meet y/n, right?" she nodded eagerly at sals words.

I smiled at her and waved. "Hi, angel."

"Hi, y/n! sal told me so much about you. you're even prettier than he described!" she exclaimed.

sals ears glowed light pink. "is that so? well, thank you, but that's all you. I love your hair, it's a beautiful shade of purple."

"thank you so much, Y/n! mommy's calling me, already! promise you'll come see me? these boys are smelly!" she giggled quietly, pinching her nose. "goodbye!"

"of course, goodbye!"

My Ramblings: Hey, this all looks familiar! Anyways, I like sword gag. Obviously guys it was in a couch, open your minds. It's also interesting to see Sashi not having wings like in the Pilot, I guess now we can infer what happened because we know she has them the next time they're in the Knight World.

I like to smash bits of the Pilot in this episode in my head, with the Boone being exception of course... and also the other stuff going in Zap One.

Ok, the zapping. They still do come out of a static background, but the Pilot's just looks so different.

Get the banging intro we all love and the iconic title cards!

Zooming on the family picture doesn't hurt at all. Nope, not all. It's interesting to show no snow on Christmas Eve, but that can happen in a lot of places, I really like that decision. Sashi beating the fake reindeer making look like snow? Gold.

But I've got to say, starting with a holiday episode is... unusual. I personally wouldn't have, but I'm not saying it had to be Zap One. It's just that not everyone likes holiday or Christmas episodes. I'm also upset we never got a Halloween episode.

I wonder why we didn't see the MUHU used in the Pilot, perhaps it wasn't a thing? I doubt it. I enjoy Brock and Vonnie every time they're on screen, funny and such great parents, even from afar! Like that they left a record video. Poor Penn, just wants see his parents so bad on Christmas, they're first Christmas apart. Also for a quick second we see that the MUHU charging deck thingy is broken. I wonder why? Genuinely, why? Was it The Chinchilla?

Our first introduction to Aunt Rise and Uncle Chuck (and of course The Chinchilla). I don't mind them, not my favorites. But don't mind. They're quirky.

I love the Trio so much! Boone and Sashi trying to cheer up Penn is so sweet.

First time we see Old Man Middleburg.

Not even having to exchange words to show how much Rippen hates Penn and Larry's over the topness.

Phyllis is queen. She's slaying in that candy cane costume. And she's already being supportive with Penn. You need a prom date? Phyllis has got you. MUHU broken beyond repair? She tried.

I would have a mental breakdown if I tried avoiding Christmas like the plague only to be zapped into Santa of all people! Like what are the odds? It's like the universe knows or something.

I just realized we never got a "check the specs" in the Pilot! Dang. Also, you can hear bells when her specs are displaying the mission.

Penn helping Boone calm down is sweet. Also, the "Okay, I'm gonna pet you now, but not in a weird way." Line will never not be funny, so many quotable lines in this show. I'm like a parrot.

Also, was the head in a box a reference to the movie Seven? If so, it's a very interesting pick for a reference for a kids' show.

Did they get Adam Levine for his screaming? I think that's a possibility.

Mr. Snowman...

I do like the rogue gingerbread men, but I wonder if Rippen being Krampus was at least considered. It always bugged me when I first watched this. Goat Rippen would have been too much for anyone to handle, I suppose.

The candy and Christmas weaponry is fun and creative. Larry cannibalizing himself is very Larry. I, too, would have a nibble on at least one of my fingers.

I like that Mr. Snowman just assumed the MUHU was broken. He doesn't know a damn thing about it and yet already being manipulative. I like that Penn is allowed to be a bit selfish. It makes sense, most of the time, it's because of his parents. He desperately wants them back or at least able to see and talk to them. Love me some good character flaws!

Surprise! The snowman with an ominous voice was bad! Although, it is surprising that Rippen decided to team up with anyone. I guess he probably sees Mr. Snowman as easy to take out, it's not that hard as we see later on. (Snow) Man literally took his whole heart out and almost died for a bit.

The face Penn makes when he says the whole ruining Christmas for eternity is gonna bother him for awhile is great. So many great faces on this show.

The first song of the show! Also forgot the Pilot didn't have a song... good. I don't wanna hear that Boone sing. He's not an angel like ours. I used don't not like his singing, but it grew on me. Pretty good song. Everyone is good at singing. I like that the breakout fails, like you really thought a candy cane would work as a key? Jokes land so much better than the Pilot (sorry I keep bringing that up).

So there's just one gingerbread woman? Like a smurfette? Also, Rippen, my goodness! One (gingerbread) woman and already be acting up. It's just a tiny bit but still funny, I like the idea that he can't keep it in his pants sometimes. He's gotta come off as suave to anyone watching.

Also weird that gingerbread people just eat steak and mashed potatoes... not very Christmas-like, guys, and woman.

"You've looked cooler." Sashi delivers that in such a way that it can be such a low blow to whoever she's saying it to (Penn).

Would've loved to see a drama class. That would've been a Boone episode, a Boone-isode!

Creative way to escape, using Santa lore. I wonder what it felt like to be tube-shaped for a few seconds. I'm sure that would feel good on my back until I cry from pain.

"Man, that guy can talk." Sashi, that man is your principal. Your lucky he ain't evil.

Yep, he's a snowman... what was he gonna do? Snowball them? Man them- nevermind.

AAHHH! Rippen jumpscare! Oh no- is his bowtie made of anything? Like licorice or something? Or is it just a bowtie?

I'll never find it funny that in some Santa media set in modern times, they're still making older toys like made out of wood and stuff. Anyways, love the fight between Penn and Rippen using the toys as weapons. Very fun and creative.

I love it when Rippen tries to use Penn's interest against him, the MUHU in this case. But no, Penn is better than that.

Did Rippen feel anything when he broke or does it not hurt? Either way, falling down at that velocity must have been terrifying. First instance of Larry eating Rippen... yep, not the first!

Also, the first use of the Wilhelm Scream! They love that scream.

He made a hard choice, but thankfully, it paid off in two ways. Completing the mission and getting your MUHU fixed by Santa because of it. What was that one quote? "A true act of goodwill always sparks another." (Whoever gets that, have a cookie)

Also like that it implies Santa doesn't like gingerbread, perhaps because gingerbread people work for him?

An all around good Christmas episode, usually my least favorite kind.

~The Characters~

Penn Zero: This Penn and Pilot Penn while similar, feel very different in delivery.

Like I said already, I like Penn feeding into his self-interest. We always understand why he does and acts like he does, he's a good person with flaws. Flaws that are so human.

Boone Wiseman: Oh Boone, I'm sorry I ever doubted you. I can't believe we almost didn't have this you! So much more funnier and nicer. Our lovable buffoon. Even going out to make skateboard sleds for his friends! And a failed roller-skate skis that he actually never made, but it's the thought that counts.

He's funny but still takes some seriousness with his job. Especially at the end.

Sashi Kobayashi: Violent as ever! But cares deeply about Penn's troubles. I also enjoyed when she just conked Larry and that elf in the head.

Rippen: Not a whole lot to say for him in this episode. He was funny and growly as usual. It's still interesting that he teamed up with someone as we'll see in Number One Number Two. Yes, I know, I'm Still Super. But that's different as we'll also see

Larry: He really doesn't have much to do besides eating himself. Which, good for him, he makes a good point, they'll never be that delicious again.

Dimension(s): I like the look of the mountaintop north pole base, which is a very cool take on Santa's workshop. It's more like a military base than anything.

Forms: Reindeer Boone is the best, sorry. He's adorable, I like his physicality. Everyone else did good, but they'll never be Reindeer Boone.

What do you mean "from a trauma standpoint"?

I mean that the people pleasing of the 1989 era, which allowed for the whole Kimye phone call thing at all, was a trauma response from Taylor. One of the pieces of trauma that it was a response to was the 2013 slut shaming.

If you weren't around in the fandom, you may not understand really how bad it was and what it felt like. It wasn't 2016, but it was the next worst thing. When she says "the jokes weren't funny," she means the jokes were not funny. Remember that she'd be invited to awards shows where the hosts mocked her the whole time. She was relentlessly harassed by violent misogyny.. and the worst part is that it was "in the name of feminism."

I've said before that the tumblr blog Your Fave Is Problematic ruined the internet (the creator agrees too), and Taylor was one of the first people on the blog. It was fucking awful. Big feminist icons of the time online decided that John Mayer, of all people, deserved protection from her. That she was setting feminism back by expressing hurt because she was clearly a manipulative crazy person meant to live an anti-feminist stereotype and make money off of it. And people ate that shit up.

Taylor had resigned herself to not having romantic relationships that meant anything until Calvin. And a lot of those feelings of being trapped she sings about when she sings about him, I think, are directly tied to this too.

Everything about the 1989 era, from the lack of country on the album, to the marketing, to the relentless Grammy campaign, to the thousands of interviews, to the squad, to the arguing with both fans and other famous people online... All that stuff was a direct response to wanting it to be different. Hell, even the way she attacked the Kaylors which stoked the flames at making them even worse was out of fear because of the hell the larries put her through.

2013 was hell and owning that, going back to that hurt and reclaiming it... required a lot of healing and maturity. It's one thing to recognize the threads of your trauma, it's another thing to be able to claim them. In Miss Americana she talks a lot about the thread of the trauma from the Fearless era, of wanting to be A Good Girl and who everyone wanted her to be, but she skates over a lot of 2013. Midnights, and in particular Anti-Hero, is the first time we really hear her acknowledge it as tied to her other emotional issues. It's therapeutically speaking so significant. Girl did a ton of fucking work.

well... what a year. i should write about it on my neocities before i have to fly out. remember neocities? i sure didn't for a solid six months. hey, html is hard, what can i say? that aside, i'd like to thank everyone for the support this year. my blog grew quite a lot because i was drawing quite a bit of subway boss stuff and apparently that was a good idea. like, dude... i've just been having a prolonged brainrot episode and it's still probably going to keep going for a good long while. even larry hasn't distracted me long enough to not draw ingo and emmet for one day. even without submas art i would probably still be drawing pokemon stuff, unless i decide to be real bold and re-experience my great ace attorney phase (yes i had one (no i didn't post about it. thank god)) or something like that. regardless of whether my interests shift of my activity rises or falls, and whether those who follow me now stick around or move on, i'd still like to express my gratitude for your support. and not just to people following me, but to the people liking and/or reblogging my content and to those who will follow me in the future. without the feedback, i figure i would not be posting so much. funny little notification on funny little computer make the smooth little brain become happier brain, which is a "i want to draw" brain. the amount of notes doesn't matter overall, but it's nice to be acknowledged. i still do a lot of drawing that isn't shared here because it's just stuff i do for me, but its still pretty nice to be able to make stuff that is suitable to post and to see it actually get attention.

as for the plan next year, there might be some big changes in store for me yet. and i would still like to continue to draw subway bosses. but maybe i'll start posting some original content too (like i mean i have a tag for it and i kinda haven't been using it sooooooooooooo) and more frequent posts would be nice. maybe not once a week but just here and there. perhaps i'll share more sketches. i would like to acquaint everyone with my ocs, and maybe get around to rewriting their toyhouse pages which i took down to work on and never did WHOOPSIE DOODLES

Because it’s Friyaaaaay, I would like to share how much my brain hates me because I have such a steamy dreams with Louis and I don’t know why. Of course I had dreams about Harry as well but they are nothing compared with those with Louis because basically nothing’s happening with Harry but with Louis? Oh my! The only dream I had with Harry which was hotter than normal also included Louis - Harry was flirting with me at some bar and Louis was standing at the opposite side of the room staring at us whole time and when we decided with Harry to go somewhere private (you know what I mean, right?), I went to Louis to ask him to join us 😂 (obviously because my larrie brain, I wanted to watch them in bed haha and not actually having sex with neither of them). But in my first dream with Louis I actually ended up having sex with him (please, I still have no idea how that happend other than he was standing in front of me completely naked while I was trying not to look at him). Then I had another dream but I can’t remember it but guess we were doing some pda again. And today, today I had another dream with Louis and this time we were kissing. And he was the one who started it. But before he had a phone call with Harry (yep, my brain is larrie even in my dreams again) and Harry told him something which made him incredibly happy. And then he started kissing me while I was only standing in front of him and told him “wait, but you’re not into women” and he was like “Yeah but whatever” and started kissing me and hugging me. And then I woke up. And in few hours he had his last show in Australia looking incredibly good (even his hairstyle was looking great imo) and I’m just thinking how lucky bitch Harry is because I would fight him anytime to steal that man of his haha.

it might be because i've been reading every single Araki interview i can find (and feeling so insulted on his behalf that people still think he's a slapdash idiot) + working on a new story so my brain's going a mile a minute but I JUST THINK it's incheresting that even aside from it being the moment in which The World awakens (possibly hinted in the OVA, intentionally hinted in DPP) and aside from star platinum ROARING after its attack to portray/release jotaro's tension, and aside from it being a crucial enough turning point that 2 lush OVA episodes were dedicated to it, oh and aside from it being jotaro's special fight in jojo's venture/heritage for the future,

it's also that jotaro beat all the prior (and future) enemies to shit til they were dead/retired without any care and then... and then... the very first guy whose life he wants to spare, the first since taking on his homies polnareff and kakyoin... well, he's not allowed, that choice is taken away from him by the guy committing suicide right in front of him. HUH???

i wonder if there was a prompt, like "create an enemy Jotaro would actually respect." there are so many little humanising details, including us hearing n'doul's running commentary/internal thoughts due to him being alone.

why would i waste time thinking about something as nothingburger as jotaro/kakyoin, something for which you have to mash your brain into a donut shape because they have no chemistry (compared to the well-established and very sweet ongoing friendship with polnareff) plus kakyoin being MIA— i don't know why should i bother being distracted by that when the thing i'm being shown, with purpose and intent, is SO compelling that my brain goes tesseract mode. i feel like i'm taking CRAZY PILLS

though that's how i feel about most jjba ships/how they're done. actually, most ships from anything. usually the stuff i like is so good (LMAO?) that i find maximum satisfaction exploring it along the axis of what it's dishing out... i want the narrative to double down, i want to accept that this is what an author has decided is important and if they think that then what does that mean? and forget that i'm delusional for a second OK

another example is phoenix/edgeworth in ace attorney. jesus christ. it feels like someone told a big lie in like 2006 and it spiralled into a game of telephone and everyone was like "oh, ok!" but replaying it since then, i find there are So Many fascinating relationships/dynamics to explore, things that are so much more captivating to me than that ship. both edgeworth and phoenix are rude as fuck, one a highfalutin uncontrollably transparent bitch and the other an intense and abrasive dirtbag leftist, both very petty, and them being friends, and them being friends with larry, is gold to me. because ok, if that's true, and it is, and it's funny and fraught and complex, then THAT'S what i want to daydream about.

i really don't think it's lack of creativity on my part, i think i just get inspired by different elements of a story. i did a big search trying to find "films similar to HEAT (1995)" but every recommendation is just... crime. it's not examined much further than that. i haven't found anything that comes at it from the angle of how emotions/atmosphere are structured, guided, even purposefully distracted in HEAT, the anxiety and guilt and sorrow and relief you're made to feel. if Michael Mann is known for his meticulousness, then meticulousness of emotion, of breathlessness, and how that's crafted, should also be a point of study and comparison! i don't need it to be identical in genre— HEAT could've been a great heist film in terms of cleverness, but it's the tone and connection formed which elevates it.

i'm so much more interested in the symbolic turning point of the n'doul fight because of exactly what it is, it's a literal sudden gut punch causing a jarring reflection and sense of humanity that was easy to bypass before. that's amazing to me. if someone had only watched the garish DPP version and hadn't read the manga or seen the OVA then i could maybe understand since there isn't much in terms of colour or set dressing to carry what's going on, but, like i said, that Is the one with The World, it Is the one where we get a glimpse of N'doul with DIO... idk. i'm an insane person and i've been thinking about it off and on for almost 10 years and that's probably medically abnormal but unfortunately i can convince myself of anything and i never disappoint myself

Are there any popular fandom theories you just can’t get behind? I personally have a hard time believing Louis has been blacklisted from radio or that Sony intentionally sabotages his popularity. I thought the whole point of the closet was to keep making as much money as possible, why intentionally kneecap your own income source? His marketing could be better sure, but i haven’t seen enough evidence to indicate intentional sabotage. And even good marketing can’t force everyone to buy a product they don’t care for. Unfortunate as it is, i think he’s just regular old unpopular.

I honestly think it is a mix of both. There is some evidence I've seen that he could be blacklisted from radio play. It's easy to do something an executive doesn't like and for them to do this sort of power play. I agree though that Louis would never and could never do that well even if we could prove that he isn't being blacklisted. Fandom lives in a bubble. Louies and Larries adore Louis because we love him as a person. The general public doesn't give a rat's ass; they care about talent. I don't care if people want to cancel me for this but Louis has a weak voice. He can't hold his own singing live, often failing to hit high notes or being drowned out by the crowd and his own band. I don't hate his voice at all, but to me it's clear he never practiced as hard as, say, Harry, to improve. Also, fans need to understand that this is how the general public has always seen Louis: rude and untalented. In a way, they're right. A lot of his "sassiness", while funny and lighthearted, can go too far, and Louis does definitely have a bit of an ego problem; he himself has admitted as much.

I also don't believe a single bit of Louis's closeting is for him or his career. It's all for Harry. Look how famous Harry is. Look how much money he makes. This is all about money and always has been. I cannot say for a fact whether Louis chose it, but I'm leaning more toward his being pressured or coerced into closeting and babygate, because of his relationship to Harry. They have always needed Harry to appeal to women. They need him either straight or bisexual, and available. That means that he needs to be in PR relationships to generate publicity and so that women can project onto his girlfriends. He will never settle down with any of his "girlfriends", and he will probably never "date" any of them for more than 2 or 3 years, as per my guess. It's always been the same structure. Louis gets in the way. It cannot come out that Harry is married, much less to a man, and therefore not available for women to have their groupie fantasy. They think he's Jim Morrison, and that they have a chance of being picked out of the crowd for "backstage fun" if only they dress cute and do their makeup all nice. Fortunately Harry took some power back recently and decided to shave his hair off, the one thing he's always been known for, right after being declared the "Sexiest Man". It's only a matter of time before that title goes to someone else, when Harry ages out of the system. Maybe he's tired of being this "sex god", but what do I know? I think part of him likes it from what I see in videos, where he jokingly flirts with fans and laughs at their weird perverted signs. At the same time, I think he just wants to be out of the closet and for people to listen to his music and not pay attention to the way he looks. I don't know why people think they have a chance with celebrities. I'd rather appreciate his beauty from afar, while caring more about his music and his personality.
