I'm all for the changes they made to the story although I'm still saddened they chose not to include "I'm Wishing" and "Someday My Prince Will Come" for the Snow White remake. Are they too outdated for the current audience or could they have still fit in somehow, you think?

I think if they had kept the Prince rather than introducing Jonathan, they could have kept those songs. I honestly think they could have made it work.

My solution would have been to make the Prince be a childhood friend of Snow White's. This has precedent, not only in Snow White and the Huntsman, but all the way back to the 1912 stage play and its 1916 silent film adaptation (the one that inspired Walt). In all three of those versions, Snow White and the Prince knew each other as children when her father was alive, though they haven't seen each other since the Queen took over. The 1912 play also has Snow White mention that the Prince sends her a valentine every year.

In fleshing out Snow White and the Queen's backstory, the new movie could have shown her growing up with the Prince, then reaching the age where they begin to have feelings for each other, only for the Queen to separate them. She could lie that she's sending Snow White away to finishing school (another detail from the 1912 play) only to secretly banish her to the kitchen and reduce her to a scullery maid instead. Then their meeting scene at the well could become a reunion scene. "I'm Wishing" and "One Song" could be sung with the basis of an already-existing relationship, without needing to change a single lyric.

"Someday My Prince Will Come" would be trickier, because of the inherent passivity in Snow White's waiting for him to come to her. But maybe it could be placed in a new context. Maybe dialogue could establish that Snow White wishes she could go looking for the Prince, but can't because she's in hiding from the Queen. So the dwarfs could resolve to help Snow White find a way to let the Prince know where she is without letting the Queen know. Some type of secret communication system in which Snow White is an active participant... maybe a network of different animals who can deliver a letter to him, or something like that. Then, as they put the plan into action, Snow White can sing the song, expressing her faith that someday soon the Prince will find her thanks to their efforts.

If this version also emphasizes Snow White as a leader and future queen, then maybe a new verse could also be added to the song, in which she imagines all the good that she and the Prince will do together for their kingdoms. That way her dreams will revolve around more than just romance.

These are my two cents on how I think the songs could still have worked in modern remake.

Edit: there are lots of people commenting that they don't think she said that, that the other people are hearing things and whatever and I get it, I watched this clip multiple times, sometimes I hear it clearly, but other times it does sound more like a general scream. I don't think it matters, tho. I don't think this detail is important enough. Yes, they made Isha so Jinx could see a little of Vi's POV, but have you ever heard of a parentified older sibling?! I have, I was one, I still am. Vi was one too, in a way. Jinx's time with Isha was shorter, but there's no mistake that she was a parent figure for Isha, as well as an adoptive older sister, imo. There's a real possibility that Jinx was the closest thing to a mother that Isha ever had, calling her "mama" when they were in danger is not very outside the box for a little kid that finally found people that care for her. Anyways, I think that's the important part about their relationship... the unfairness of it all.

Did everyone somehow just forget that Russia was the one who started the war on Ukraine? That Russia invaded Ukraine apropos of nothing, and has been doing everything it can to steal what it can and destroy what it can't? That Ukrainian kids are being stolen by Russia for russification? That Russia is actively trying to suppress Ukrainian language, culture, and national identity? That Ukraine is just defending itself and is literally just asking for Russia to fuck off and leave them alone? Did everyone just forget that??

Like I'm the nuance guy, and folks: there's no nuance here. There is no justification for this invasion. There is a clear aggressor and a clear victim. This is about as clear cut as it gets.

Russia started the damn war, and now wants it to end and is negotiating with the US (not Ukraine??) to get there. This is literally just wrapping up Ukrainian surrender to Russian imperialism in a pretty bow and calling it "peace."

I feel like I'm losing my mind.

AuDHD is so funny sometimes like what do you mean my hyperfixations/special interests will last for years on end or possibly forever but they will cycle out every month or two with absolutely no transitional period or warning. like i will think about the same topic every day obsessively for 46 days in a row and on the 47th day with no visible cause adhd brain goes "ok! bored of that now" and autism brain goes "dw i got something queued up for ya" and i blast into full blown obsession on some other topic whose mental file folders haven't opened in 9 months. brain's out here treating hyperfixations like a crop rotation. once the dopamine runs out it cycles in another one but once something's in the rotation it never ever leaves. last summer we brought in one from when i was 11. it's so funny to me but frustrating too bc like. i cannot stress enough my inability to predict or control this. or how completely abrupt and random it can be

You gotta hand it to Fig. All of the Bad Kids were given foils this season and they got to decide how much they wanted to engage with that part of the plot. Gorgug only interacted with Mary Ann in passing despite them both being on the Owlbears. Fabian noped out of chatting up Ivy once she crossed a line with Mazey. Riz was so busy that he truly had no time to engage with Kipperlilly even though she's obsessed with him. Kristen interacted a bit with Buddy but spent way more time verbally sparring with Kipperlilly. And Adaine was somewhat interested in Oisin but never overtly acted on it.

But Fig?

She's in Ruben's WALLS. She's in his DREAMS. She's faking her alter emo's death. She's got the Fantasy FBI after her. She's SO SO tiny. No one is doing it like Fig's doing it.
