I think it's very fucked up that RedBull instructed Checo to deliberately break the rules so he doesn't trigger a safety car that may impact the chances of Max winning. Like he's already getting made fun of and bullied constantly, and the team is not helping the situation at all. It's like RedBull is trying to make him look like a moron
#I'm not even a rb fan but i have been starting to read more about the team from checo fans on twt#and the more i do the more i feel some type of way#why re-sign someone if you're just going to treat him like an idiot and make him look bad#f1#formula 1#checo perez#canadian gp 2024

'I flirted with the idea that instead of being trans that I was just a cross-dresser (a quirk, I thought, that could be quietly folded into an otherwise average life) and that my dysphoria was sexual in nature, and sexual only. And if my feelings were only sexual, then, I wondered, perhaps I wasn’t actually trans.
I had read about a book called The Man Who Would Be Queen, by a Northwestern University professor who believed that transwomen who were attracted to women were really confused fetishists, they wanted to be women to satisfy an autogynephilia. And though I first read about this book in the context of its debunkment and disparagement, I thought about the electricity of slipping on those tights, zipping up those boots, and a stream of guilt followed. Maybe this professor was right, and maybe I was only a fetishist. Not trans, just a misguided boy.
About a year later, on the Internet, I come across a transwoman who added a unique message to the crowd refuting this professor. Oh, I wish I remember who this woman was, and I wish even more that I could do better than paraphrase her, but I remember her saying something like this: “Well, of course I feel sexy putting on women’s clothing and having a woman’s body. If you feel comfortable in your body for the first time, won’t that probably mean it’ll be the first time you feel comfortable, too, with delighting in your body as a sexual thing?”'
-Casey Plett, Consciousness
#this quote always moves me almost to tears when i remember it#i'm not a trans woman and i don't share the author's specific experiences with transition#but it really moves me that she frame transition as joyfully giving yourself permission to approach your body#not as something that has to be disciplined and deprived and made small in all these various ways#but as a means for experiencing pleasure and joy and delight and for insisting that our feelings and desires are worth#valuing and exploring and treasuring#i always used to think of prioritizing those things for myself as selfish and irresponsible#but who does it harm to want to experience pleasure in your own body?#it's such a beautifully simple and powerful switch to have flip in your head#and equally why are we forced to deny our own pleasure in transition and anything else related to our bodies in the name of moral rectitude#this is why i get so confused and pissed off when other trans people are fatphobic for example#like why are you so invested in politics of shame and disgust that never had any purpose other than#violently disciplining people as if they've violated moral codes by existing in a body#to say nothing of white people being racist in gay and trans communities#like again this system of violence is foundational to homophobia and transphobia#so why are you acting like it has nothing to do with you#even if you are unmoved by the urgency of other people's suffering which btw you should be moved by#what do you hope to gain by acting a collaborator and handmaiden to those systems#Casey Plett#she really is one of my favorite authors i wish more non-canadians read her#this quote is from a series of columns she did ont transition and every single one is a banger#i love when she talks about the people-pleasing elements of dysphoria and transition denial#she's so sharp about noting how many of us deny our own dysphoria on the grounds that others like and validate our bodies#that's how i always felt during my cis conventionally feminine era#it pleased other people so much and also that reception felt so hollow and joyless to me because i hated it#i get less of that positive feedback but that feels so unimportant next to the joy and pleasure i get to experience#said with the understanding that i'm very privileged in being able to prioritize those things without fear. but it was a switch flip#personal nonsense

Current fear that has lodged deep into my soul: Everyone keeps reassuring me that it's not impossible to get accepted into PhD programs without first doing a Master's, and I want to trust them. But when I actually go and look at grad student profiles at the schools I'm applying to, they almost all have M.As or the equivalent. One of the professors I was interested in working with even outright told me that I should look into getting an M.A. first.
I cannot afford an M.A. -- I am the sole provider for both myself and my very disabled partner who cannot work. It's PhD or bust, and I'm very scared I'm wasting my time applying for these programs. And that I may be locked out of a career path I'd really love entirely because I don't have the money for it.
#i should be working on applications or my writing sample but#instead i am stuck in anxiety loop about whether it's pointless to even apply to these places#i am admittedly applying to one (1) M.A. program at a canadian unviersity that might actually give me some funding but#i'm still not sure i could afford to do it if i even get in#anyway. a little stressed. in case you can't tell

you know what i'd love to see in the "we want to update these base game zones"? it's never going to happen, but it's something that bugs the hell out of me in any and every game/show/visual medium:
temperature-appropriate clothing.
it'd be nice to see all the numerous warmer clothing/armour/motif models eso has in its game used for the npcs in places buried in snow. and yes of course, the oodles of lighter/cooler/less layered clothing models for almost everywhere else, but what's more important right now is THE SNOW. you know how you make a place look cold? bundle up the people who are inhabiting it!
the argonian guild-store merchant in windhelm should be in a blanket burrito stuffed with enchanted heatpacks. lady laurent should not be faffing around the coldest areas of wrothgar IN CANONICAL HOT ARID DESERT CLOTHING
she's wearing the medium armour version of the redguard motif. aka: CLOTHING MADE TO LIVE COMFORTABLY IN THE OTHER END OF THE TEMPERATURE SPECTRUM.
give npcs warm clothing in cold places. please.
#eso#elder scrolls online#elderscrolls#this bugs me in everything#and it's everything#no one bothers giving alternate weather-matching outfits#i'm sick to death of it#fashion#look i'm canadian. i KNOW about cold weather. so this shit bugs me even more.#every new life festival i'm reminded of this#hell every time i go anywhere supposedly cold in eso this happens#same with wet places. rainy places.#i'm super conscious about warm places and dress my chars accordingly because i myself HATE hot weather#but asjfhkdls;ajfdksla#it's ridiculous

alright folks, I'll probably finish SVSSS v4 by this weekend (pray for me) and then I'll be done all of MXTX's books and I have no idea which series to try next... So!! I'm going to pose the question to people that might have more experience in the genre! These are ones I've either incidentally acquired or been recommended
#help me out i'm indecisive and not well informed about the genre i don't even know if they're all technically the same genre#i started mdzs in 2022#i just finished tgcf at the start of the summer#and now i'm working through the last of svsss#i've been reading mxtx books for two years and guys i'm so not ready to be done (;′⌒`)#i'm exerting so much self-restraint by not giving up and restarting mdzs#but i've ended up with a surprisingly large stack of books over the years and i should try something new#for apothecary diaries i'm actually on book 2 i read the first back in may and wouldn't mind continuing it it's funny#as a rule i'm not huge on isekai's but svsss has warmed me to them and disabled tyrants sounds hilarious i'm intrigued#i think beware of chicken is actually by a canadian author...? but it seems to fit the genre and i had a friend passionately recommend it#so i've picked it up and should read it at some point#the other 3 i know basically nothing about buy i found the first books cheap at a used book sale and grabbed them on a whim#bene speaks

why couldn't darry curtis have been a hockey star or a soccer star. am i actually going to have to learn the rules to american football to write this fanfiction because it's looking like the answer is yes
#it's not even canadian football.#i have to be vague in my descriptions cause idk if it says what position he played in the book (if someone sees this and knows please say)#and idk if that helps or hinders#so far i'm stuck on can the ball be stolen by the other team#i know nothing about this sport. i didn't even know how the time was divided#and i still don't fully understand tbh. what is up with your seconds?? i understand quarters but what are these second segments#also football doesn't have penalty time?? wild. i was about to write that the other team was down a man due to a penalty#when it occurred to me that that may not be possible (apparently it isn't)#what happens in soccer. all i know is little jail for crimes time#og#the outsiders#darry curtis#my writing#personal#<- i guess??

i find it interesting that americans expect canadians to know everything about america, especially like states/cities/landmarks/attractions/etc but can only name 1-3 provinces and make fun of names like "saskatchewan" and "winnipeg" not knowing that a great majority of place names in canada are taken from indigenous languages... eek
#i'm pretty sure a lot of places in the states are named from indigenous languages too#whats your DAMN PROBLEM#why do i need to be familiar with boise idaho you cant even pronounce manitoba#anyway the amount of times americans have spoken to me just expecting me to know wtf theyre talking about like some random highway in#fuckinf texas or smth#??????????#we dont study american highways in canadian school im sorry....#💭

not to be obnoxious on main but classic literature is not global literature. it's western literature at best
#not to vague but like. name one book from my country i dare you guys.#sorry this set of posts just makes me so fucking mad. like i'm also guilty of this because my ass can't speak any other language but#books of importance from other countries outside of the western hemisphere. especially if theyre in a language which is not english#go largely ignored by the western world at large despite their importance to their countries of origin#and its a double standard to have to expect to know like. for the most part the literature of native english-speaking or european#countries. when i'm certain a lot of these people don't know any of our literature or their importance to us#its so fucking pretentious. like i wont say im not guilty of it as a monolingual english speaker so that list of classic literature#is whats most accessible to me but like christ. get your head out of your ass. they didnt even say something bad about the book. holy fuck#sorry im just so fucking pissed. and i know these people are white or some form of american canadian whatever#im not denying the importance of the book in question its just Your Experiences Are Not Universal. why dont you respect our literature#before demanding the same respect for 'yours'#'uhh but i didnt know about those bools and their history-' YEAH BECAUSE THEY DIDNT HAPPEN IN YOUR PART OF THE WORLD. ITS THE SAME OVER HERE#BUT IM NOT CALLING YOU OUT FOR IT AM I? EVEN THOUGH THOSE BOOKS ARE THE CENTER OF A MAJOR HISTORICAL EVENT IN MY COUNTRY#im so pissed.#woe be upon ye

Should we start the email conspiracies back up? What do we have to do to get Lewis another podium?
#backstory: some anonymous person sent an email that Lewis was being sabotaged in the canadian gp weekend#then he started consistently scoring podiums and even got 2 wins#now he's getting similar results again from before the email scandal took place#I'm kinda joking but kinda not#apparently too much of my mental health goes into whether or not lewis does well#f1#formula 1#lewis hamilton#singapore gp 2024

I want to buy a sticker from your shop, but shipping (to Canada) is down as $22 before tax. May I ask why it costs so much to ship a single sticker? Is it Etsy being weird, or does it really cost that much to send an envelope over the border?
I'm not trying to be snarky or passive aggressive or anything, I'm genuinely just kind of befuddled atm.
A fair question honestly! USPS sets the rates for international shipping, and shipping to canada really is about that expensive 😭 I considered sending stickers via envelopes, but 1. if I send them with a stamp (less than $2) they don't have tracking, and etsy Does Not Like That. I gotta send packages with shipping to qualify for star seller, plus it covers your ass in case USPS loses it. and 2. apparently it's illegal to send merchandise internationally in envelopes!! so sadly we're all stuck dealing with the super crazy international rates. I don't like it either because as someone who deals in trinkets, people generally do not want to pay $16 for a charm that costs $12, and they especially don't want to pay that for a sticker that costs $4... I would ABSOLUTELY have way more international sales if USPS wasn't fucking us with the prices but it's out of my control dssdjkfjksdf
I give this advice a lot, but if you don't want to pay international shipping (or just live in a country I don't ship to myself), you can borrow the address of a friend that lives in the states and they can forward it to you! I don't actually know if this is cheaper, but some people have said it is. it's def cheaper for stickers though if your friend uses a stamp!
TL;DR yeah etsy and USPS are Both Weird, sorry ; - ; i assure you i hate it even More than you do lmao
#etsy#not art#ask#anonymous#anon#i think i actually did have like three canadian sticker orders last week all in the same day#one of them ordered multiple stickers but two were just. One. and i'm like. you guys are either rich or crazy but either way i respect it#even US shipping is getting more and more expensive. five years ago i'd pay 2.80 to ship a 1 oz first class package#now its almost $4. even just over $4 if i ship to like California or something!#i'm gonna put a general PSA here to please not be too upset with small businesses' shipping rates even in the US#not to imply anon is or that anybody has said anything! but i do see like tiktoks and social media comments#on Other People's Pages saying like OMG $5 SHIPPING??? INSANE I'M NOT PAYING THAT#amazon has spoiled you guys sorry. shipping isn't free. not only do i have to pay for the shipping label#i have to pay for my bubble mailers. my envelopes. the thermal labels i print on. i recycle my bubble wrap at least but i have to pay#for materials as well. so this seems like a good place to mention it#frankly i shouldn't even have the stupid 'free shipping over $35' thing because again shipping is like $4 give or take 30c by location#but etsy makes me and it Does bring in sales so i'll pretend it balances out

#i keep seeing Americans being surprised at this & need to know if it's as common knowledge a i thought it was#polls#tumblr polls#TLDR for the tags: the strikes in America matter in other countries because American media is made in Canada a lot#if you didnt know btw yeah a lot of American shit was filmed in Canada#you can see it in the credits a lot but i know ppl dont watch credits#but yeah unless it's a very specific American landmark the movie is usually Canadian#easiest way is to check the bg for Tim's#second easiest way is to check the end of the credits for ''thanks to whatever local government for letting us film there''#you'll see the specific province#also yes same with games. & animation. alotta animation & game studios around here#i could go work for Disney or on the next AAA game without even leaving my city#i could also work on whatever next Netflix cartoon is being worked on#so when people are like ''i'm not from America i dont need to worry about scalping'' just remember#American companies outsource to Canada a lot because it's cheaper. & other countries too#even if you aren't American or havent been to America you can still be a scalper. you can still cross the picket line#so yeah the strikes in America actually matter in other countries#because American movies are usually only like half American#gonna go watch Spiderverse in like an hour. peace
