Fic writers: How do you write smut without getting all hot and bothered?
I just wrote a scene while my spouse was in therapy and it's taking me every ounce of self control not to jump their bones.
It does help that the cat has taken her place on their lap and I know I still have garlic breath from my lunch.

Headcanon where after so many arguments between the batkids and Bruce over his paranoia and complete disregard for his kids privacy, the entire family had compromised with (in the healthiest way possible) downloading life360 on their phones and that's how they all keep track of each other.
Now Bruce knew that this is mostly for his benefit and is supposed to be a healthy alternative for his unhealthy paranoia and helicopter parenting, but what he wasn't expecting was for his kids to start keeping track of him.
He's putting gas in his car and Dick calls him because apparently Dick has been watching him drive around on the app? And Bruce is currently at a gas station thats right around the corner from a Taco Bell and now Dick wants him to get food for everyone since he's already there.
He's driving home from a meeting and Steph calls him because her and Duke were shopping in the area and wants to know if he can pick them up, when he asks how she knew he was on the same street, he gets a "Oh I just like to stalk everyone on the app for funsies." as an answer.
Jason calls him and he can barely get out a hello before Jason cuts him off, "Bruce why the fuck is your phone battery on 5%, charge your damn phone" which completely stuns him because why does he know that. He clears his throat before answering. "Jason, what?"
"Everyone can see each others phone batteries on '360, now charge your phone." Is all he gets before Jason hangs up on him.

I hope demons have sayings that sound really weird and messed up to humans, just as there are many diverse sayings across varying human languages that don't always translate easily.
---01
Lucifer looked up warily as you entered his office before breathing a sigh of relief. "I thought you were Mammon, here to give me another headache."
You strided over to his desk to take a peek at what he was working on. It looked boring. "We both know you love your little brother. What could be so bad this time?"
Lucifer buried his eyes in his hands, brushing his hair aside with the tail end of a pen. "He's been gnawing on my toenails all week."
You coughed in surprise, smacking your chest to loosen up the muscles so that clarifying questions could be asked. "What? Why? How?"
"Just general Mammon buffoonery as usual. For some reason he's especially persistent this week."
"I have literally never seen Mammon chewing on toenails..." Your lip curled back in disgust just imagining it. "Has he... done this before?"
"What?" Lucifer narrowed his eyes, puzzled. "Oh." His gaze softened once he realized what was happening and he huffed in amusement. "Mammon hasn't actually been gnawing on my toenails. It means he's getting on my nerves, as you might say."
You clasped your hands together and sighed, letting a wave of relief wash over you. "Please. Just say that next time."
----02
"C'mon, c'mon! If ya move any slower I'm gonna exfoliate Diavolo!"
You were running as fast as you could, despite Mammon being the reason for your tardiness. You didn't have much to lose, but Mammon could be in deep trouble for missing another morning class.
You wheezed and almost ran into him, not realizing he kindly came back to carry you. "Wh..." After a few deep breaths, you choked out your question. "You're gonna what? To Diavolo?"
Mammon thrust his bag in your arms in a rush and picked you up instead. He spoke as he began running, "yeah. He's gonna have my neck if I'm late again!"
"I get that, but is Barbatos gonna make you wash him...? Or...?"
"Wha? Are you still half asleep? Is that why you're runnin' so slow?"
You leaned your head back against his upper arm to stare up at him in frustration. He couldn't ignore your pouty face inches from his own. Mammon's ears grew red. "Knock it off!"
"Tell me what you mean!" you ordered.
Mammon growled and ran even faster. "What do you mean? I'm just tryna get us to class!"
---03
You scooted your seat closer to Leviathan. He perked right up and froze as you approached to whisper in his ear.
"Levi, XYZ."
"W-w-what? Is that a code?"
"No, XYZ. PDQ."
He reached for a pen and began noting the letters down. "P... D... Q... Got it. What's next?"
You shook your head. "No, Levi, your barn door is open."
"What game are we talking about? I haven't picked up Moondrop Basin in a few weeks."
You made a zipping-up motion with your hand. "Your fly!"
"Oh." Leviathan ruffled the back of his hair and swatted the air around his head. "Is it gone now? I didn't see any bugs."
Though reluctant to be so blunt, you were out of euphemisms. "Levi, your pants' zipper is open."
With an "eep!" he turned away to fix his problem. It took a few seconds. In his haste, the zipper kept getting stuck. He was mad when he turned back around, his face colored crimson. "Why didn't you just tell me? Without turning it into... into some game!"
"I did! XYZ, PDQ, That's what we say in the human world! Examine your zipper, quick!"
"That's so dumb!" he seethed, punching his knee. "What a spumid flaming cabbage. Your sayings are so weird."
---04
"Ready for the next one?"
"Hit me," you told Satan.
He grimaced from across the desk, raising his eyes from the paper to look at you in concern. "What? No, I'm not going to do that."
"Not literally, it's a human saying. It means 'give it to me,' or something like that."
"Oh." Satan jotted that down in the margins of his own notes before reading off the next phrase on his list. "This is one of my favorites. It's a colorful saying, but if you're really mad at someone you can call them a snot-cobbling banshee. I like to say this while cursing their next three generations."
You wrote that down. "How often do you use this saying?"
"Not too often. Well, maybe once a week with my brothers. It goes along with this next phrase which implies someone is dangerously stupid. Barbed dingbat."
You nodded. You were truly learning so much on this cultural exchange program.
---05
Asmodeus came into the kitchen as you were preparing dinner and wrapped his arms around your neck. He looked exhausted.
"Careful, I've got a knife, don't want to accidentally nick you," you warned. "What's up? Long day?"
"Like you wouldn't believe." Asmodeus peeped over your shoulder to look at the vegetables you were cutting. "I'm so glad you're home. You know, all day, all I could think about was..."
He proceeded to say some incredibly vulgar things. Detailed depictions of debauchery. Irredeemable acts of indecency that cannot be repeated on this blog. It made you put the knife down in a tizzy.
"Are those more demon idioms?" You snickered awkwardly and wiped your hands on a towel. "I've been learning about your sayings recently. Can't say I've heard those ones yet."
"What? Oh, no." Asmodeus lifted your hand, raising it to his lips to lick a stray fleck of vegetable skin off your fingertip. "These aren't sayings, this is just stuff I've wanted to do all day."
---06
"I could just eat you up."
This was something Beelzebub said often, and something he repeated again today. His hands were occupied with a fresh four-pounder with cheese, but his eyes kept drifting from it to watch you shoot paper balls into a wastebasket.
"You know, humans have the same saying. Isn't that funny?" You bounced up to grab some of the wads on the floor that didn't make it into the basket, to try again.
Beelzebub swallowed the mass in his mouth. "Really?" he asked between bites. "I thought you guys stopped doing cannibalism, mostly."
"Uh." You missed your throw. What should have been an easy shoot bounced off the edge and rolled away from the wastebasket. "Yeah, we did. Just so we're on the same page, you're saying I'm cute, right?"
Beelzebub was concerningly quiet as he chewed.
---07
"Are you on your way back to class?" Belphegor stopped you in the hall. You hadn't even seen him there on the ground, curled up next to a shady pillar.
"Skipping class again?" you asked. "I thought you liked magic theory."
"Maybe," he yawned. "It's too easy sometimes."
Belphegor fished around in his pocket for a second before pulling out a tightly folded-up sheet of paper. He offered it up. "Can you turn this in for me? I don't want my grades dropping over late homework."
"Sure thing, but it might be better to turn it in yourself. I heard Barbatos is doing random checks in all classes this week. He'll notice you missing."
"Nah." Belphegor's head drooped down as he prepared to doze off again. "If you see him, just tell him I'm being flerchen in the garden."
That sounded innocent enough. "Okay. What does that mean?"
"Means I've got the sniffles," he lied.
---08
Barbatos' eyes grew big and he placed a hand over his heart, furthering crumpling Belphegor's homework sheet in the process. He looked around to make sure nobody overheard before leaning in. "I must ask that you never say that again."
Behind him, Diavolo's palm was clasped over his mouth as he struggled not to draw attention with loud guffaws. He had his back to the classroom, shoulders shaking uncontrollably.
"Why not?" You nervously shifted from one foot to another. You'd been had.
"It's not a topic I can explain here. Perhaps you and the Young Master should excuse yourselves for now. I'll come collect you both later."
Barbatos readily escorted you and Diavolo out of the room, shutting the door behind you so that class could begin without interruption.
"I'm just the messenger," you tried to defend yourself. Diavolo's fit of giggles was renewed. He grabbed on to your shoulder for stability while doubled over, trying to ride out the laughter.
"Did... did Belphegor tell you to say that?" He wiped a tear running down his face. You furiously nodded.
"Haha! Do you remember where he's hiding? I'd sure like to have a word with him."
You couldn't tell if Diavolo was going to praise Belphegor or tear him a new one. Perhaps a mix of both. However, the curiosity over what you said was overwhelming. You wanted to know the full extent of what it meant before seeing Belphegor again.
You decided to bargain with the prince. "I'll show you, but first you have to tell me what that means."

psst! tftw series masterlist!
Youâve been on the court for at least an hour and a half, running drills and trying to sweat out all of your stress. You were the only one in the building, but it was always less busy during finals week. Most people were camped out in their dorms cramming for fifty question tests or four part lab practicals.Â
Art politely declined your invite, too busy studying for his business final on Monday. So you rented a tennis machine and worked on your backhand that way. It was a nice distraction, emptying your head enough that all the anxiety of finals started to melt away as you slid into a steady rhythm with the machine.
The door bangs open with a loud creak behind you, bursting the little bubble of tranquility surrounding you. The back of your head burns with the unmistakable feeling of someone glaring at you.
You hear him before you see him, a loud call of your name followed by heavy footsteps quickly coming towards you. The sound of his voice immediately grates on your nerves, all angry and shouty. You choose to ignore it, focusing on hitting each new ball the machine spits out.
It may have been a couple months since youâve seen Patrick, but youâd always recognize the familiar way his voice wraps around each syllable in your name.
Three months, to be exact. Itâs been three months since your big fight over the phone with Patrick. You blocked his number right after you hung up, so you havenât spoken to him in just as long. He never tried to reach out, never messaged you on AOL or Facebook. The petty fuck actually went out of his way to unfriend you on both, so you knew he wasnât exactly torn up about your abrupt split.Â
âHey! Iâm talking to you,â Patrick shouts over the loud humming, sounding closer to you than he was before. You pointedly keep ignoring him, eyes fixed stubbornly on the machine. âYou deaf or something?â he mocks, stepping up so you can see him in your peripheral vision. You say nothing, swinging your racket harder with each hit.
Patrick scoffs, stomping over to the machine and slamming his hand over the stop button. It makes a loud beeping sound, before shutting off completely. âJesus Christ, youâre such a fucking baby.â you groan, throwing your head back in annoyance. When you finally turn to glare at him, youâre shocked at the state heâs in.
Patrickâs dressed in a tank and the almost too short shorts heâd usually wear to a match, and heâs dripping sweat. Curly black hair plastered to his forehead with it, his cheeks red and blotchy like heâd been in the sun. You raise your brow, looking at him with a confused expression on your face. âWhere the hell did you even come from? How did you know I was here?âÂ
He walks back over to you, hands balled into fists by his side. âI was at a tournament in Mountain View,â he explains, jerking his head in the vague direction he came from, âit was so close I thought itâd be wrong of me to not stop by and check up on you.â
You laugh, nodding your head lightly. âOkay, so you flunked out of another tournament and hunted me down like a creepy stalker to what? Yell at me some more? Call me a cunt again?â you step closer, lightly swishing your racket through the air dismissively. âIâm not fucking interested in whatever it is you have to say Patrick, weâre over.â
He smirks but you can see the way his jaw clenches, ticking in anger. âBut youâre interested in what Art has to say?â
There it is. You really should have known it would all come back to this eventually.
You sigh, casting your eyes to the ceiling in exasperation. âWhatâs your point?â
Patrick takes a step closer. âMy point is that youâre not fucking stupid, and Art canât lie to save his goddamn life. You knew exactly what he was doing.â His tone is accusatory, his brows pinched together hard enough to crease his skin.Â
Your heart beat picks up in your chest, anger beginning to bubble up inside you. âI didnât need Artâs help to realize that youâre an arrogant piece of shit and a gigantic waste of my time, you made it easy enough to pick up on all by yourself.â
Patrick laughs, loud and abrasive. âNo, you just didnât care.â he states darkly, shaking his head back and forth a few times. You can feel a few drops of sweat fling from his hair to land on the bare skin of your shoulders as he does. âYouâre so easy that youâd spread your legs from him to stroke your own ego. Youâre only playing into his whole kicked puppy charade to justify acting like a fucking whore, âPoor Art, heâs so sad and pathetic, Iâll let him fuck my slutty pussy to help his raise his self esteem!â.â He mocks, voice pitched up in an exaggerated impression of you.
Your grip tightens on the handle of your racket, knuckles turning white with it. You feel hot all over, anger simmering under your sweaty skin. âYouâre seriously trying to lecture me about egos? This has nothing to do with Art! This is about you being a bratty little rich boy whoâs never been told ânoâ before so you canât handle rejection. Itâs fucking embarrassing.â
Patrick nostrils flare, brows pinching together in anger. âArt has nothing to do with this, really? Youâre delusional if you actually think that heâs just this saint among men or some shit. Heâs not, heâs a fucking snake.â
âTrust me, Art doesnât have to be a saint to be better than you.â you sneer, voice sharp and unwavering. Your hands are shaking, blind rage racking through your body like thunder. âThe only redeeming quality youâll ever have is dangling between your legs so you better get used to this, because sooner or later everyone will leave you once they see past all your bullshit and realize that youâre nothing more than a worthless loser.â
Patrickâs jaw works furiously, his fists clenching and unclenching at his sides. You think something like hurt flashes through his eyes, but only for a second. It's gone just as fast, replaced by a mocking smirk that stretches over his lips slowly. He crosses his arms in front of him, shamelessly raking his eyes over your body. You can practically see the gears turning in his head.Â
âSo who fucks better?â he asks bluntly, a bead of sweat dripping down the column of his throat and into the neck of his tank.
A shocked laugh bursts from your lips before you can stop it. âWhat?â you ask, arms dropping to your sides limply. The completely one-eighty of his mood sends your head reeling.Â
Patrick takes another step closer, invading your personal space. âWho fucks better?â he repeats slowly, leaning down to meet your eye. âMe or Art? Donât fucking lie to me and tell me that prissy farmer boy makes you come harder than I do.â
You laugh again, shaking your head in disbelief. âGod, everything is always a dick measuring contest with you. Itâs so pathetic like, seriouslyââ
âAnswer the question.â Patrick demands, cutting you off sharply. Heâs practically looming over you now, so close that you can smell him. That natural, manly, musky scent he always has after a game that drives you fucking crazy.Â
It reminds you of when heâd come back to your dorm fresh off a match, still in the same clothes and not showered. Pumped full of adrenaline and so pent up, needing something to take his energy out on. You were always that something. Heâd fuck your mouth like heâd fuck your pussy, like it was just another hole for him drain his balls into. Youâd be face down in his crotch for what seemed like hours, right where his smell was the strongest. Forced to breathe it in so deeply youâd feel high off it, your brain turned to mush every time.
Heat swirls deep in your stomach, you havenât been this close to Patrick in what seems like forever. You kind of forgot how much he affects you, especially like this. The sex was always better when youâd fight before.
âYouâre a child.â
âYou still havenât answered the question.â
You huff, narrowing your eyes at him. Thereâs a sort of crazed look on his face, his pupils blown out and dark. It makes you pause, itâs the look youâd get right before heâd pounce on you. Youâve seen it enough times to know that something is different about it. He looks needier, more hungry.Â
It has some of your anger subsiding, twisted amusement swiftly taking its place. If Patrick wants to ambush you like this, after weeks of radio silence, you might as well use it as a chance to fuck with him.
You smirk, cocking your head to the side slightly. âArt,â you say slowly, taking a small step towards Patrick, âis a better fuck than you ever were.â
Patrick pouts like an honest to God child, sticking out his bottom lip in indignation. âI told you not to lieââ
âIâm not lying,â you say innocently, voice dropping down to a whisper as you lean in even closer. You can see the freckles sprinkled across his nose and cheeks, darker than usual thanks to all the sun heâs been getting. âLast night he ate me out for hours, made me squirt all over his fucking tongue.âÂ
For the first time since youâve met him, Patrick Zweig is shocked into silence. His eyes darken, you canât even see the green anymore, the solid black of his pupils swallowing it entirely. âBullshit,â he says quietly, clipped and skeptical. His breath fans hotly over your lips, it makes your spine start to tingle.
You smile sweetly, giving a small shrug of your shoulders. âIâll send you the video.â
Patrick physically reels back, blinking slowly with the realization of what you just said. His lips barely part in surprise, pink and enticing. You revel in it, smirking at him smugly. His eyes flit across your face like heâs trying to figure out if youâre lying or not. You stare back at him unrelenting, all the proof you need is sitting in the video gallery of your pink motorola razr.Â
Patrick swallows hard, you watch the way his adamâs apple bobs with it. He shifts his lower body subtly, but youâre too close to not notice it. Your eyes immediately dart down, and youâre almost giddy at what you find.Â
Heâs hard, the fabric of his shorts stretched over the length of his dick obscenely. You can see the faint outline of the tip pressing against the seam, a wet patch seeping through the gray material around it.
âOh my god, youâre actually getting off on this!â you laugh wickedly, eyes glued to the lewd tent of his dick. âYouâre calling me a whore when youâre the one getting wet just thinking about your best friend's mouth on my pussy. Thatâs fucking pathetic even for you, Ricky.â
Patrick is silent, breathing heavily through his nose as he stares you down so intensely you can almost feel the heavy weight of his eyes as they bore into you.Â
It happens in less than a second, Patrick closing the distance between you and taking your arm in his strong hand so he can force you in the direction of the showers. His grip is tight on your bicep, fingers meanly digging into your skin and forcing you to walk with him. You put up a fight, kicking and scratching but heâs stronger than you. Not letting your slaps to his chest or nails sinking into his arm deter him from dragging you across the court.Â
âLet me go asshole!â you snap, trying in vain to yank your arm out of his grip while you stumble over your own feet. âYouâre such a fucking psycho!â Patrick ignores you, bursting into the men's showers and marching you into the first stall. He drags you inside, whirling you around to shove your back against the door of it roughly. It knocks the wind out of you for a second, the lock digs into your back hard enough to hurt.
âArt doesnât have any fucking idea how to deal with a bitch like you.â he grates, fisting a handful of your harshly. âHeâs too soft. Too busy letting you lead him around by his dick to try putting you in your fucking place.â
The sting of your scalp only adds to the warmth pulsing in your pussy, sticky arousal dripping wet in your panties. You meet his eyes, all the fire and want swirling in them mirror your own. âArt has a bigger dick than you bitch.â You spit, standing on your tiptoes to lessen the distance of him tugging on your hair. Itâs a low blow, immature and basic but you donât care.
Patrick just hum noncommittally, roughly hooking his fingers into your cheeks and dragging you forward until the tip of your nose is touching his. âThen your throat is still nice and stretched out for me.â
He drops his hands to your shoulders, forcing you onto your knees. You hit the ground with a heavy thud, a dull ache blooms in your knees at the force of it. âFuck,â you hiss, pulling back instinctively but the hard plastic of the shower door pressing onto the back of your head keeps you pinned in place. Your hands fly up to his legs to try and push him away.
Patrick grips your hair tight, tipping your face up to look at him. You have a perfect view of him pushing his shorts down, letting his hard dick slip out as the fabric stretches taught across his thick thighs. âOpen your mouth,â he demands, yanking your head to the side meanly.
âFuck you,â you snarl, teeth bared in anger as you fight to stand up. Patrickâs strong hand on your shoulder keeps you down while the other starts to idly stroke his dick. Heâs just as big as you remember, thick and hard only a few inches away from your face.
The tip all red and weepy when he pulls his foreskin back on each tug, a thick vein running up the side that you want to trace with your tongue.
âDonât be like that, baby,â he coos softly, rubbing his leaking tip across your bottom lip a couple times, smearing his pre-come around your mouth like lip gloss. âWe both know you love it.â
Heâs so cocky, so sure of himself that you want to keep denying him. But heâs also right, you can feel your resolve slowly start to crack when he pushes the head between your parted lips. The familiar heady taste of him oozing onto your tongue has you sighing contently, jaw relaxing the tiniest bit almost like a reflex.
The second you give Patrick an inch and heâll take a mile.Â
âThere we go,â he mutters sweetly, pulling back slightly and then thrusting forward until your nose is buried in the short curls at the base.Â
Your whole body tenses, throat constricting over the length of his dick as your fist his shorts in your hands. As quickly as he thrust in, he pulls out, letting you sharply gasp for air before itâs back and pressing insistently on your tongue. You let him in, forcing your throat to relax as he slides forward to press his hips into your face.
âYouâre such a fucking brat,â he bites out, thrusting down your throat roughly. âPussyâs so greedy it jumped on the next dick that perked up around it.â
You could only whine around Patrickâs dick, mouth too full to do anything but try and work your tongue over the throbbing length of him.
Your throat burns, spit flowing down your chin messily along with his pre-come still steadily leaking from the hot tip of his dick.
His big hands have an iron grip on either side of your head, his balls slap against your chin as he thrusts over and over and over. The back of your skull throbs, knocking into the stall with each pump of his hips.
âFuck,â he groans, dropping his forehead down to the stall with a small thunk. âYou look so good like this,â he breathes, looking down at you through half-lidded eyes, âso fucking pretty with my dick down your throat to shut you up.â
Your pussy aches, so empty that you want to shove your hand down your shorts and stuff yourself full of your own fingers to dull the need. Your thighs glide together slickly, the wetness of your arousal soaking through your clothes.
It gets harder to breathe. Your choked off, spluttering gags start loudly echoing off the tile walls. Your hand slaps Patrickâs thigh a few times, he thrusts hard once more before he finally pulls back, smearing spit all over your tongue and out of your mouth.
âGod, that was good baby.â he praises, slapping his dick against your right cheek lewdly. âAs much as I want to pump this load down your throat,â he says casually, stroking his spit slick dick lazily, âI want it in your pussy more.â
âI fucking hate you,â you growl weakly, voice absolutley wrecked. The tears sitting in your waterline blur your vision, you blink them away to see Patrickâs smug smile beaming down at you.Â
âThen tell me to stop,â he shrugs, tilting his head to the side condescendingly. You glare up at him, but you donât say anything. He snorts, brow raising in amusement. âYeah, thatâs what I thought.âÂ
He shoves his shorts the rest of the way down, stepping out of them and hauling you up to your feet. Youâre still desperately trying to catch your breath, chest heaving as you cough and gasp.
Patrick rips your shirt over your head, flinging it over the stall along with his own. He turns you by your shoulder, pushing you against the wall as he yanks the shower handle to start the stream.
Water rains down around you, shockingly cold for a few seconds before it finally starts to warm up. Patrick makes quick work of your shorts and panties, yanking them down your legs and off your feet, tossing them in the corner of the stall with a wet thwack.
He kicks your feet further apart, one hand on your shoulder and the other lining his hard dick up with your tight hole, letting the leaking tip press into you with the smallest amount of pressure.
âI know you missed my dick, slut,â he says, bringing his hand down on your ass quickly, kneading the stinging skin roughly. âArt could be the best fuck in the world, he still canât give it to you like I can.â He pops the head in, groaning quietly before he bullies his thick dick the rest of the way into you.
Your hole shakes around him. Patick is right. Patrick is always right, but youâd never tell him that. You wanted this. You missed this. The burn of Patrickâs dick forcing you open, stretching you so wide your toes curl. Him not giving you even a second to react before heâs pulling back and pounding into you brutally.
You cry out, eyes screwing shut at the sharp sting. You can tell through the haze of you brain that this wonât take long at all, the both of you already so worked up from Patrick fucking your throat. His right hand drops from your shoulder to your hip while his left slides up your torso, sliding along your skin to wrap around the column of your throat firmly. You keen loudly, throwing your head back to give him more room.
âI taught him how to use that fucking dick,â he goads into your ear, grip tightening on your throat. âDid he tell you about that? Huh?â He takes your earlobe between your teeth, biting hard enough to make you squeal into the wall.
The tile digs into your cheek, roughly scraping against your skin every time Patrick fucks back into you.Â
Youâre hovering over the edge, pussy throbbing with the burning need to come. Your clit pulses, swollen and sensitive but you canât find the strength to drop your down hand between your thighs.
Theyâre too busy scrambling for any kind of purchase on the slippery wall of the shower, manicured nails scratching against the tile uselessly.
You gasp for air, fighting to speak up under the intense pressure of his hand, âI could tell,â you choke out, barely audible, âyou both fuck like you have something to prove.â
âYou think?â he sneers, thrusting harder, your ass stinging each time he slams his hips into you. âMaybe thatâs because we do. Maybe thatâs because we both like seeing you fucking fall apart like this, seeing you beg for it after you finally stop being a little pissy bitch.âÂ
Your breath hitches as his other hand drops from your hip, delving between your thighs to slide the calloused pads of his fingertips over your swollen clit.
You moan, thighs clenching together as he rubs fast circles over you. âYou like that, donât you? Being used like a fucking toy.â His hand squeezes just a bit tighter. âSay it. Tell me you love being our little slut.â
The words spill out of your mouth before you can stop them, a mix of desperation and raw honesty, âI love it,â you cry out as loud as you can, âI love being your slut.â
âGod, you sound just like him,â Patrick chuckles into your ear, low and sinister. His hold on your throat tightens, cutting off your air entirely. You sputter, hand coming up to clutch his wrist like a vice. Your pulse thunders, hard enough that he can probably feel it against his palm. âWho do you think made him come harder?â
The image alone of Patrick and Art like that sends you flying to the edge. âAhâ Patrick! â you moan, voice hoarse and strained, âPat, Iâm gonnaâ fuckââ
âDo it,â he goads, sliding his hand from your clit down to where your pussy is spread open on him. He pushes his thick index finger right up next to his pulsing dick, hooking it inside or you and stretching you that much wider. âCome on my fucking dick like the greedy whore you are.â
You let out a sharp cry as your forehead hits the wall, thighs shaking violently as Patrickâs hips become relentless. Your whole body tensing up as you come so hard your vision blacks out.
You think youâre screaming, but itâs hard to hear anything over the white noise buzzing in your ears. Patrickâs hips donât stop, fucking your abused pussy into overstimulation as he chases his own orgasm.
His hand drops from your throat to dig into your hip to put more power behind his thrusts. Youâre immediately gasping for air, taking in greedy lungfuls of it.
Patrickâs chest is plastered to your back, face buried in your neck as he rambles out more nonsensical obscenities. His dick pulses and twitches in your pussy, so close to filling you up.
An idea pierces through the fog of your brain, an idea so fucking filthy it has your pussy clenching weakly.
You think back to the first night Art fucked you, how he almost came all over Patrickâs pants just because they were his, just because you said his name. How worked up and hard Patrick got when you started talking about Art.Â
âWhen he fucked me for the first time, I was wearing your sweats, the green ones,â your voice is scratchy and quiet, barely audible over the showerâs spray, âhe noticed.â
âFuckâ fuck you,â he grates out, hips faltering ever so slightly. âGod, gonna come,â his hold on your hip tightens, strong enough that itâll be sure to bruise.
You keep talking, spurred on by his reaction. âHe almost came right there, he wasnât even inside me yet, just rubbed his dick all over them like he could fucking feel you.â
Patrick gives one final slam of his hips, burying himself as deep as he can in your pussy. His low groans and curses fill the room as he unloads into you, pumping you so full of his come that you can feel each hot splash of it painting the walls of your pussy.Â
He slumps down against you, hips twitching as he works through the aftershocks. You can feel his breath puff over the shell of your ear.Â
You and Patrick say nothing for a long few minutes, running water the only thing to keep the room from being completely silent. Patrick is still pressed to your back, his chest heaves against your shoulders. You think youâd collapse if his hands werenât still on your hips, practically holding you up.
Youâre the one to break the silence, voice low and wrecked, âArt lasts so much longer than thatâŠâ
Patrick snorts against your back. âFuck you.â he says, biting your shoulder hard and pulling his dick out of you in one swift move. You gasp sharply as his come floods from your puffy, wrecked hole. Thick streams of it dripping down your thighs until the water washes it away to swirl down the drain.Â
You turn on unsteady legs, hair plastered to your face with water. Patrick is right there, knees knocking against yours as he shifts the two of you closer to the spray. He looks like a marble statue, water dripping down the tip of his nose and between the hard planes of his abs.
He grins smugly down at you, âIâm staying at a hotel close to campus, unblock my number and Iâll send you my room number,â he wagers, hands sliding up and down the wet skin of your back. âI think you, Art, and I have something we need to work out.â
âYeah,â you agree, nodding your head with a small grin. âI think we doâ

I often think about how incredibly fit Natsume must be, yokai-induced sickliness aside. He spends 75% of his life running from yokai, through forests and mountains and all kinds of shit. Every day is a marathon for him, he arguably gets too much exercise (which might contribute to collapsing from exhaustion a lot. over exercising isn't good for you).
But imagine what a fast runner he must be. He's able to sometimes lose yokai despite their supernatural speed etc. And he's been doing this since he's a child? I just want an episode where it's time for track in gym class and everyone's expecting the kid who's constantly sick and exhausted to be the slowest one, but instead he just passes them all at warp speed. WHEN did he have time to get this in shape, isn't he always inches away from keeling over, his class in chaos. Nishimura and Kitamoto are the least surprised since they've seen him running before, but even they didn't think he was THIS fast., wow, what natural talent.
Actually, there should be a running gag where one of the many stressors Natsume faced over the years is track team coaches trying to constantly recruit him in most of the schools he goes to, so he's constantly trying to hide how fast he is because he can't be a burden and have the people he's living with PAY SPORTS EXPENSES omg :(( and also he wouldn't be able to show up for most of the meetings, so. And also he doesn't like most team sports (the real reason).
He's managed to keep it mostly under wraps in Yatsuhara, but then one day it's the sports day episode and Nishimura trips while carrying the baton as they always do and starts crying so Natsume's like "siiiiiiiigh fine don't worry Nishimura I've got this" and suddenly he's at the finish line. Thus his hellish lot of being hounded by the track coach begins anew, thanks a lot Nishimura.
#once again thinking about an element of a show has spun off into fanfic land somehow#natsume's book of friends#ok what if during the sports day episode there's even a yokai in the way and he has to vault over it and everyone's like what#why did he jump so high there#and now the gymnastics team is interested too#natsume yuujinchou#takashi natsume#i'm actually surprised there's never been a natsume sports day episode#assuming it hasn't been covered in the manga yet#they had a school festival one#hire me to write it#natsume takashi

As if I wasn't already exhausted enough this morning...
It's been brought to my attention that people are taking my fanfics, editing them, and sharing them around. I don't have the words to describe how not okay this is. If you don't like something about my fanfic, then I'm sorry to hear that, but there are a lot of other fics out there you can read instead.
I put time and effort and care into my writing, as does every writer. To take my work without permission and change it feels like someone just punched me in the gut. Frankly it makes me not want to share my work at all and to take down all the writing I do have up, because why should I share anything with people if all they're going to do is decide it's not good enough and they're going to do what they want with it and make it "better"?
And before anyone comes at me, this is not what a transformative work does. This is not the same as fanfiction. I'm fucking exhausted from working two eleven hour shifts over the weekend so my brain is not working so someone smarter and more articulate than I am can explain why. I'm tired.
This genuinely makes me want to take down all my works and not share anything new. It's very simple, kiddos: Don't like it? Don't read it. You will miss out on some fanfics that way, just like you'll miss out on some films, or books, or TV shows. I've missed out on really good fic, novels, films, etc, for the same reason. We all do. It's a part of life. Stuff will sometimes have things in it that you don't like. Skim those parts, fast-forward those scenes, grin and bear it, or just go and read/watch something else.
Normally I would make this post unrebloggable but I worry other writers in this fandom might experience the same thing and not realize it. So people are welcome to reblog this. Anyone who's an ass on it will be blocked, no second chances.
Just. Don't do this guys. Holy shit don't do this. What the actual fuck.

ê° in which the boy you see every summer enrolls in the same university as you. ê± â modern!jacaerys velayron x reader
àš âŻ i cannot stress enough, football means âœïž not đ. childhood-friends-to-lovers, but you have to get through my 2000 word psychoanalysis and backstory first. light angst. mention of the death of a parent. lots and lots of talk about the velaryon-targaryen-hightower family dynamic. light make out action. reader's family is implied to be wealthy enough to have a summer home. almost everyone lives au. set in the uk, not westeros. omitted daemon rhaenyra marriage because thereâs no way to to make it even semi-normal. realizing now i omitted daemon entirely erm sorry. pushing the laenor agenda bc heâs my favorite character. this is abhorently long. extreme overuse of the em-dash. uhh the perspective is wonky in a few places. will prob get a pt.2. ⯠à§
i had to write this twice. i'm offering this to you with shaking hands, like a peasent child begging for coins. i may write a part two because i have more to say, but i don't want to figure it out rn.
On the cold January morning that Jacaerys Velaryon-Targaryen was born, the media went into a frenzy.Â
The Targaryens were old money, their fortune rooted a century back in good investments. Historically adept at finding their way into things, the empire had a string to pull in every industry. From art and law to technology and shipping, if business prospects looked good there would be a Targaryen investment.
And then there were the dogs â regal greyhounds, with long, thin bodies and sleek coats. The Targaryens bred them as far back as bloodline records went. The pups were never for sale; sometimes they were used as show dogs, and successful show dogs they were, but more often they were pets. It was a status symbol, to nonchalantly own such a coveted creature.Â
The Targaryens were idolized in the public eye. They were all stunning, with sharp features and silver hair, and each member of the family seemed to possess a Midas touch. But, where Valyrian blood ran hot, so did the press. It was no surprise when magazines started to turn a profit from silver heads plastered across their glossy covers. It was the price that came with God-like aristocracy.
From editorials to gossip columns, people devoured the insider life of the untouchables. When Aemma Targaryen died, there was a four-page spread in nearly every magazine; complete with pictures and quotes. Business papers filled with opinion pieces about Rhaenyraâs inheritance claim to her familyâs empire; magazines exploded with the announcement of her engagement to Laenor Velaryon, and subsequently Viserysâ marriage to Alicent Hightower, the daughter of his lawyer.Â
When Jacaerys was born, reporters lined up outside of the hospital doors. There were cameras and microphones and crew trucks, and Rhaenyra hated it. It wasnât the way she wished to welcome her child into the world â swarmed by people who didnât know nor care for him.
Laenor had always been good at navigating the attention, and Rhaenyra was constantly grateful. So, when he pulled his gaze from the babe and steeled himself to deal with the onslaught of reporters outside, tears pricked at her eyes. Appreciation, exhaustion, adoration? She couldnât be sure.Â
Looking down at her son, she thought, heâs perfect. He had a smattering of dark hair, and he was quiet but not concerningly so. Wispy lashes fell upon his cherub cheeks, and when he eventually blinked up at her his eyes were dark. He looked nothing like her â she didnât care.Â
She refused to talk to anyone outside of her family, and had the curtains in her private room drawn. To expose her son, her heart, to the prying eyes of the bored masses with nary a care for his well-being was a nightmare. She wouldnât have him exploited.Â
At the time of Jacaerysâ birth, she and Laenor had been married for a little over a year. Laenorâs father, Corlys, managed the bulk of the import and export for Viserysâ company. Corlys was a good man, he hadnât dreamed of marrying his son off. But Laenor and Rhaenyra were both in the same impossible situation: the wiles of youth mixed with the ever critical public.Â
They had both fallen into scandalous relationships, both preyed on by paparazzi. If they married one another, it would save face for both of their families. Plus â both being the eldest and heir, this would clear the expectation of a dignified marriage. They agreed to leave each other to whatever youthful fun they wanted to have, as long as everything was discreet.Â
Both the Velaryons and the Targaryens kept a summer home in Dragonstone, a private community in coastal Wales. It was the perfect place for Rhaenyra and Laenor to begin their life â far from her father, close to his parents, and out of the line of sight for any nosy journalist.Â
The public eye had looked to other things by the time Lucerys was born, two years later. Again, Laenor dealt with the small gathering of reporters with the utmost grace, and Rhaenyra submitted a written statement.Â
Alicent divorced Viserys that same year.Â
As she watched her boys grow up, full of energy and life, Rhaenyra thought, there was no one better to parent with than her best friend â a title Laenor had rightfully earned. They hadnât had much choice in knowing each other, and they certainly would never have chosen to be married, but he made a bearable roommate. They had things in common; they liked the same music, and the same men. They drank the same wine and frequented the same restaurants. And, they both loved their boys.Â
As Jace and Luke grew up, they found the best company in each other â the school in Dragonstone was so small, though, that there were very few other options. They both played on the schoolâs small football team, and Jace took piano lessons while Luke learned to fence. Where Jace was driven by emotion, Luke was level-headed; where Luke was cautiously quiet, Jace spoke his mind. It was an ideal childhood, the Welsh coast was an idyllic backdrop to grow up upon, with the sea in their backyard.Â
They were ten and eight when Joffrey was born, both excited for their new brother. Their mother brought him home, bundled in a soft red blanket. The boys sat on the couch beside Rhaenys and stared at him for upwards of an hour.Â
Hardly a week had passed when Harwin Strong died. He was a family friend, a frequent presence in their home and life â Jace and Luke had been upset by this, of course.Â
In time they came to understand the situation fully. Jacaerys first, fitting the pieces together with the evidence he found in the mirror. Neither Rhaenyra nor Laenor had dark hair, like he and his brothers.Â
His matriline was uncontestable though, as he grew into himself. He possessed the same nose, jaw, brow, and high cheekbones that Rhaenyra wore. The comparisons between the two became more frequent as he grew older, and he found himself to be quite proud to look like her.Â
Her attitude lived in him as well, the temperament she had been so notorious for as a girl festered in her eldest son. She had once been christened âThe Princess of Dragonstoneâ after flipping off a reporter at their summer home. Jacearys earned it for himself when he was fifteen, after loudly berating a reporter. He had been defending Luke, but no one seemed to care when they deigned him âThe Prince of Dragonstoneâ. He took it with grace, claiming that he couldnât help but be his motherâs child.
It instilled a sense of public propriety he strove to uphold.Â
Rhaenyra remarried the same year â to Alicent Hightower â and moved her children from Wales to London. It took a while to adjust to the new life â Jace liked his new school, but he detested his step-brothers. No matter how hard he tried, he couldnât come around to the idea of living with Aemond and Aegon, who took so much pleasure in making he and his brothers miserable.Â
After the first month, Jacaerys fell in brilliantly. He performed well in school, quickly being enrolled in the advanced literature and history courses. He got on well with his peers, and made a number of friends. He joined the football team and spent his Sunday afternoons learning piano concertos.Â
Living in London made him a more publicly prominent figure in his family's legacy. He knew how to play his role as heir; he carried himself perfectly â confident and charming and elegant. He didnât particularly like being in the public eye, but there was a certain sense of satisfaction when he did something to receive positive public attention.Â
Kingâs Landing, much like where he had grown up, was a community reserved for the upper echelon. Situated in Northwest London, and surrounded by wrought iron gates, it was regal and dignified. The house had high, vaulted ceilings, large stained glass windows, and more than enough bedrooms. It rained more, Jacaerys noticed in the first month. When it had rained in Dragonstone he would watch the droplets bounce off the sea, where it lapped at the sandy bay. Here the rain splattered unceremoniously upon the pavement.Â
For as wonderful as life in London had turned out, Jacaerys found himself longing for what was left behind in Dragonstone. Laenor lived there still, and while he called often and visited as much as he could, it wasnât the same. Jaceâs childhood bedroom remained, along with all of the memories in the house he grew up in. And his friends. There was an assortment of people he only saw between late May and early September; the children of the other seasonal residents. The number had dwindled in years past, with fewer of them returning for break â favouring more interesting places, like Ibiza or Rome, as they got older.Â
Far too few of his childhood friends he kept in contact with, especially after the move to London. You were the exception.Â
He was grateful, on days when it stormed in London, to receive a silly text or too-long voice note. It made things feel less dull â you had a way of doing that.Â
He took to reading theory around the time he turned seventeen. Itâs queer theory, at the suggestion of his cousin Baela, who lent him his first Judith Butler book. He finished it that weekend.Â
His aunt Laena and her two daughters lived in London, and Jace found a close comrade in Baela. She played competitive tennis and listened to riot grrrl, she was much cooler than him and he knew it. Her bedroom held two massive bookshelves, and she let him pillage her collection for De Bouvier and Didion and Gay. Hours were spent lying across the floor in Laenaâs house, studying, or reading, or talking. He enjoyed Baelaâs company more than any of his school friends, favouring anything with her over anything with the boys from his football team.Â
His youngest sister, Visenya, turned one around the same time. Baela, staying with Jacaerys while he babysat one night, inducted him into the eldest daughter club.Â
âYouâre so keen on driving your siblings around, and taking care of them. Plus, arenât you your motherâs closest confidant?â She asked.Â
True, Jace supposed. He was the oldest of Rhaenyraâs children, and the most responsible of his brothers and step-siblings. His mums both worked full time, they were busy but as involved as possible. Jace just did the menial things. He made Joffrey breakfast, picked Luke up after school, and watched Visenya when necessary. He didnât mind.
Baela argued that he should mind.Â
He had been a sensitive child, more so than his brothers, but it made him incredibly emotionally adept as he aged. So many boys his age prided themselves on stoicism, but that was never something Jace felt connected to. He always felt things too deeply to bottle them up â it accounted for the occasional temper that flared up when he was upset, but also how empathetic and kind he was.Â
Jacearys was set to graduate with honours in the first week of May. It was three months before when college acceptance letters began to appear in the mail. He had applied to a number of places, and been accepted everywhere. The University of the Vale was where his hopes hinged though.Â
Just after Valentine's Day, it showed up. The envelope was wide and stuffed full, and sealed with a wax stamp. His acceptance letter was on the very top of the stack of papers â the thick paper heavy in his hands, as he admired the blue printed border and silver flocking.Â
Rhaenrya sorted through the informational packets while Jace reread the letter. Part of him couldnât believe it was real.
He sends you a picture of the letter, and you respond in kind with one of an identical nature.Â
You hadnât planned to go to the same university, but it certainly was a happy coincidence.Â
After graduation, he was beyond excited for the reprieve that Dragonstone granted. The promise of early morning hikes, and evenings spent on the beach â the once empty house, full of life and bustling with bodies.Â
You were the first thing Jacaerys thought to look for when he set his bags down in the summer home.Â
It was late May, and you were guaranteed to be out of school. Iâll text after I unpack, he thought, pulling clothes and books from his suitcase.Â
His room in Dragonstone had once been his childhood bedroom. The walls were a warm tone of white, and the small bed was still covered with his blue and white checkered duvet. Piano scales and pictures of his brothers and friends adorn the walls. There was a soccer trophy on the back edge of his desk, something he had won when he was eleven. It was stuffy from nine months of stagnance, but familiar all the same.Â
He pushed the curtains back from the window to let sunlight filter into the dusty room, gazing down at the beach, when he spotted your figure. He was quick to rush downstairs, out the backdoor, and across the stone path that leads from the patio to the beach. He greets you with a call of your name and a tight hug, sunglasses perched atop his head and linen shirt half buttoned.Â
It had been a year since heâd last seen you. You had kept in touch during the school year; Jace favoured Snapchat and FaceTime, delighted with the pleasure of seeing the mundane things you were up to. There was a nearly constant text thread, and voice memos passed back and forth. But, it all paled in comparison to physical company.Â
He abandoned his housekeeping duties, keen to sit on the beach and talk. And you did so for hours, about everything and nothing. He tells you about his last year of school and listens as you do the same. When the sun dipped past the treeline, he leaned back on his elbows, watching the water crest on the sand. He felt more at ease than he had in a while, enraptured by the ease of your presence. The conversation flowed, there were no awkward lulls and no pressure to talk about something dignified. It was comforting to be so close to someone who didnât see much of his life in London â you knew the best version of him.Â
Your friendship had always felt like that, from a young age. On days that smelled of sunscreen and sea salt in his mind, you would meet in the mornings and depart past dark and then do it again the next day, never tiring of each other. Your parents knew his, so you had always been welcome in his home â invited or not. You had shared a bed during sleepovers, drunk from the same cup, and fallen asleep on the couch during movie nights countless times. Quick glances and imperceptible expressions were a language you communicated in, reading each other without words. In your presence, Jace was the most comfortable.
The summer slipped away as it always did, taking long nights and leaving memories of sand and sunshine. The days were ambled away in the water, on rocky hiking paths, or in the meadow that sat a mile away from all of the homes.Â
Jace had started The Hobbit before school ended â most days he found himself sprawled out in the park or on the beach, reading. He had also taken to running with his dog, Vermax, in the mornings. He relied on the serotonin boost to start the day, and with no football to play a jog was a decent alternative.Â
When the summer drew to a close, the typical melancholy that befell the return to the real world wasnât present in Jaceâs mind. He presumed it had everything to do with the fact that he would see you every day now
You have one college class together â a nine a.m. medieval literature discussion.Â
Clinging to familiarity in the new environment, he glued himself to your side for the first week of classes. He memorized the way to your dorm, meeting you outside every morning to walk together to your first lessons. The meandering conversation was a good start to the day, and he silently relished in your tired eyes and quiet voice, not yet used to the early schedule.Â
On Friday he all but begged you to come back to his dorm after the discussion; it was your only class that day so you had given in. You hadnât seen his living quarters yet, and he wanted to spend time with you, worried for when your schedules would fill up and you would lose room for each other.Â
The discussion had been mind-numbing. You reviewed the same syllabus as the lecture, and went over the same rules and policies as every other class. With the thirty-five minutes remaining, the teaching assistant made everyone watch an incredibly monotone video about the history of medieval England.Â
Jace linked his arm into yours in the hallway after class, pulling you to the doors. The cool morning air was refreshing, waking you up more as you walked across campus. His dorm building was new and modern, seventeen floors with grey siding and big windows. It was private housing, clearly expensive.Â
He had a single room with an adjoining bathroom and a small common space. The walls were typical dorm white, with laminate wood flooring. Joffreyâs school photo is hung on one wall, the frame clearly decorated by the child with glitter and string. Scattered across the other walls were photographs in thin silver frames, a large world map, a clock, and a cross-stitch of a rainbow stag beetle.
Sitting on the couch, you observed the unframed photos that lay across the coffee table, inspecting a leggy grey dog as you plucked it from the pile, âWho is this?â
Jace leaned into your side, gazing at the photo, âMy mumâs dog, Syrax,â He reached over you to tap the picture, âSyrax is my dogâs mum.âÂ
He slipped his hand into yours as you walked with him to his second class of the day.
In the third week of school, Jace asks you to attend a mixer for a pre-law society with him. He doesn't know anyone, and doesn't want to be alone at the party. You meet at his dorm at a quarter-to-six so you can walk to the event together.Â
The dress-code is emi-formal, and when he opens the door to you his hair is slicked back with water and he smells like his cologne â musk, sandalwood, and amber.Â
âAre your clothes pressed?â You ask, grinning at his freshly ironed slacks and the three buttons undone on his shirt.Â
He rolls his eyes, locking the door behind him as he escorts you down the hallway. The walls of the elevator in his dorm are mirrored, and you laugh at him when you catch him taking pictures of himself. He makes you take one with him, and sets it as his lock screen.Â
The mixer was in the dean of lawâs massive house, buzzing with young people in smart outfits. Jace abandons you about fifteen minutes in, spotting a group of poli sci majors from his social psychology class.Â
From his childhood spent between galas and his motherâs business meetings, Jace was good at navigating these situations. He was charming, leveling the professors with charismatic smiles and confident posture. He was good at holding an intelligent conversation, discussing theory and strategy.Â
You were on the patio, watching the stars, when he found you an hour later.
His arms brushed yours as he leaned against the railing, âSorry for leaving you,â His voice was quiet, and he stared at your profile, watching the way the moonlight illuminated your skin.Â
You wave his apology off and make him buy you coffee in recompense on the way home.Â
Youâre stood talking together on the quadrangle a few weeks later, a cup of hot chocolate warming your mitten-less hands, when you realise just how cold itâs gotten. It's just too cold for the thin jacket that you try to sink further into, hiding from the wind that bites at your delicate skin.
Jace watches you shiver, observing your lack of appropriate attire.Â
âAre you cold?â He asks, reaching out to run his hands up and down your arms, half to warm you, half to gauge how thick your jacket is. Not very.Â
You nod, âI didnât check the weather this morning.âÂ
He sighs with exaggerated exasperation and slides his arms around you, careful of the paper cup you held. Of course, heâs worn the right coat, and you feel the downy material of his hood against your cheek as he rubs your back to generate some warmth. You smell the cologne on his collar and the expensive shampoo he uses; he grumbled something about taking better care of yourself.Â
Then, one particularly cold Friday morning he has forgotten his coat. Dressed in a hoodie, he mirrors your excuse from the week prior, smiling sheepishly â face flushed from the chilly air, dark curls blowing around his head like a halo. You take pity on him, slipping your scarf off. You loop it around his neck, tucking the ends down into the collar of his sweater, and leave him with a fond peck on the cheek; his skin is cold.Â
He's appreciative, though the scarf does little against the cold wind cutting through his sweater. Still, he doesn't give the scarf back.Â
With the cold, comes midterms. Youâre the first person Jace asks to study.Â
Your dorm room is closer to the central part of campus, and thus a shorter walk in the bitter cold. Jace brushes snow out of his hair as you unlock your door, ushering him inside. It's small. Two twin-sized beds, one on each wall, with nary enough room for two bodies between them; a desk is crammed into the small space between your bed and the window. You let him take the desk, spreading your books and notes out across your bed.
Your dorm is old, and the room has very little ventilation. Despite the frigidity outside, the room is stuffy and almost hot with both of your bodies inside. An hour into studying Jace shrugs off his heavy, knit sweater and pushes his glasses up into his hair.Â
âWhat are you working on?â You ask, leaning forward. Youâre bored, working on the same power point you started yesterday. You want to talk to him, though he doesnât seem keen on the idea
He doesnât look up from typing as he speaks, âAnalysing The Art of War.âÂ
You shut your laptop, bent on distracting him, âThe book?âÂ
He nods but doesnât give a verbal response.Â
âWho's that by?â You ask, fighting to suppress a grin
This time he does look up, glaring at you over his glasses, âSun Tzu.âÂ
His tone is short, but it's amusing to annoy him so you grin, suppressing a giggle, âSounds very interesting.âÂ
âWhat do you want?â He asks after a beat, still holding your gaze.Â
You shrug, âNothing. Iâm bored,âÂ
The next time you study is even less productive, school work discarded on his floor in a matter of minutes.Â
âWe canât be trusted to work together,â He tells you, watching as you calculate his astrological chart, geometry homework forgotten.Â
You attend your first college party together in November. When you arrive at his dorm, heâs dressed much more casually than normal.Â
You reach out to tug at the thin silver chain peeking out from his shirt collar, âThis is fun,â You tease, giggling, âAiming to impress tonight?â
He rolls his eyes in mock-offence, turning you around by the shoulders to shove you out of the doorframe.Â
The lights in the house are dim, and they strobe slowly through different colours. Itâs too dark and too bright all at once. The music is almost unbearably loud and people are packed in like sardines, itâs all incredibly overstimulating.Â
When he senses your unease, Jace takes your hand, pulling you tight against your side to lead you through the throng of bodies. Heâs looking for someone, but youâre unsure who, and he canvases the whole space before giving up on finding them.
The backyard of the house is quieter, but the ground still vibrates from the bass of the music. People are scattered about, smoking cigarettes and sipping from bottles of cheap beer.Â
You both learn what Jell-O shots are, and make out in the bathroom back at his dorm. Itâs not the first time youâd kissed each other, trying it a few times in your adolescence just to see what it was like. But this is different, tipsy and sloppy, as you giggle into his mouth.Â
It's forgotten in the morning, when you wake up in his bed still dressed in your going-out clothes, head pounding.
But then it happens again, the week before finals.
You had stayed at the library far too late studying, leaving the pair of you to walk back to his dorm in the dark. It's positively frigid, cold December air whipping snow into your face.Â
There are still snowflakes in your hair as you shed the thick coat youâre wearing, pulling off your gloves and hat.Â
There's a bottle of wine in Jaceâs freezer, left by Aegon the weekend before. It's expensive and rich and red, and Aegon would likely skin you if he found out you were drinking it â but, that's part of the fun. There's a baking show on the small television, and youâre curled into Jaceâs side to steal some of the warmth from his body.
When the program lulls he brings his hand to your hair, combing through the tangled strands. You pay it little mind, leaning into his touch as you watch a contestant on-screen whip macaron batter. His fingers slide down to your jaw, turning your head so your eyes meet his. Heâs studying your face, cheeks flushed from the wine or the cold.Â
The attention is odd, and you giggle nervously under his gaze. His hands come to cradle your jaw as he leans towards you, nose brushing yours. The air is charged with an unusual tension, his mouth a breath away from yours.Â
When he kisses you, heâs slow and gentle, his whole body angled into yours. Everything feels warm, a welcome contrast to the weather outside, and you chalk it up to the glasses of wine coursing through your bloodstream.Â
It's pleasant, different from times past; this certainly doesnât feel like an innocent, experimental kiss. It's heated, tinged with passion. He uses the placement of his hand to ease your jaw open, tongue sliding slowly into your mouth.Â
There's a vibe, something you hadnât felt before with him. It's communicated through the gentle touch of his hands, and how his breath hitches when you kiss him back with the same sort of force.Â
The moment is broken by the announcement of a winner on the television. His hands slide down, resting on your shoulders, pulling your frame into his.Â
You donât talk about it afterwards.Â

*rolls up 15 years late with Avatar the Last Airbender thoughts*
So I've been rewatching clips from the show lately to refresh my memory while I'm writing my Zuko Alone fanfic. And last night I rewatched the clip where Iroh teaches Zuko how to redirect lightning and I have had thoughts about this scene for years so I might as well finally throw them into the void of tumblr.
So, this scene is insane to me, because at the end of learning how he could-hypothetically- redirect lightning, Zuko looks at Iroh and, completely seriously says "okay I'm ready to try it with the real thing now". Like, Zuko, the boy with a massive scar on his face from where his father burned him just looks at his uncle and says, "shoot me with lightning".
And yes, he's 16 and not thinking but that's part of the point because the amount of blind, complete trust Zuko has in Iroh to look at him and say "shoot lightning at me" after the insane trauma he had at the hands of his own father- that is WILD to me. Zuko literally trusts Iroh so much that he just assumes, without even having to think about it, that no matter how volatile and unpredictable the lightning is, Iroh won't hurt him because Zuko cannot fathom his uncle hurting him.
And of course, Iroh's appalled because Zuko's standing there with a massive scar on his face from when his father misused firebending against him and likewise, Iroh cannot fathom hurting Zuko. And since IROH knows how volatile and unpredictable lightning is and how it could literally kill his son nephew he is absolutely NOT going to use it just to let Zuko practice redirecting lightning, but he's so flabbergasted that Zuko would even ask him that that he just kind of splutters angrily that he will ABSOLUTELY NOT shoot lightning at Zuko. (it's also just another layer of how messed up Ozai is because he shot lightning at Zuko without a second thought later)
But I hope Iroh thought about it later and realized the amount of pure, unthinking trust Zuko has in him because ;-; the child didn't even THINK about it. "Okay uncle shoot lightning at me now. I know I'll be safe because it's you." I love them so much đđ
#avatar the last airbender#zuko#uncle iroh#have literally had these thoughts rattling around in my head for YEARS#makes their reunion at the end of season 3 even more heartbreaking and sweet because zuko was so afraid#that iroh would be mad at him ;-;#the consequences of the crossroads of destiny really haunted him haha ;-;#their dynamic isn't even in my story I was looking it up just for lightning redirecting reference but the scene brought back thoughts#I love avatar it's one of my dormant hyperfixations that can become a current hyperfixation at any moment#which is. actually what's happened to me xD#this could potentially be relevant considering netflix is doing avatar tv show things now#but I doubt they'll do the subtext anywhere near this well#*writes an avatar fanfic 12 years after I first watch the show* 16-year-old me would go feral over the story I'm writing haha#anyway enjoy my ramblings

Tips for writing London as a setting if you've never been there
London's a popular place to set a story! It's often imagined as sexy, cool, and suave. Whilst this is sometimes true, the thing that it predominantly is, is absolutely and entirely chaotic! So here are some aspects that you may not know about:
-Public transport is absolutely crucial to the infrastructure! Few people drive in London because of how well connected it is, and bus stops and train stations are often used as meeting points or details in directions.
-There's a LOT of crime, like, a lot. All cities have it, but London has a lot of variety. Stabbings are incredibly common (to the extent where it becomes a bit of a joke), almost everyone has a story where they've found or seen a dead body, and there are many money laundering/drug den fronts under the guise of highstreet shops (they're not well hidden).
-Despite it's chaos there's a strong code of etiquette most people hold themselves too. Some are actual rules (stand on the right side of escalators, don't queue jump) but some are simply social expectations (don't stop in the middle of the pavement, keep your bags close to your body, don't take up multiple seats.)
-A lot of tourists to the city are COMPLETELY FERAL and widely hated. They'll stand in the middle of the road, block up bridges, swing around cameras and selfie sticks in busy places, and completely ignore the social standards of polite society. People Do Not Like This. (also American tourists have a tendancy to just randomly start conversation with people? It's a bit weird and generally not done but it's not strictly a bad thing.)
-Rush hour is INSANE. We're talking almost static traffic, trains so packed that you're pressed into people on every side, buses that are so full they can't stop to let more people on. Some days it's better some days it's worse, but if you can avoid travelling at those times YOU DO.
-There are a lot of scam artists on the streets. Most major cities have these, they suck, they're aggressive, and they'll take your money! Some give you flowers and then force you to pay, some take photos of you and boost up the price to get them, there's always new ones, they're relentless, and you've gotta tell them to fuck off.
-Black cabs are not at all popular for normal people! They cater to tourists, rich people, and old people. They're great, the cab drivers are hard working and very knowledgeable, but they're also very expensive. Awful as it is, uber's cheaper if you're desperate, but buses go everywhere so it's just not really worth it.
#I wrote this ages ago but I just went on a trip to America and realised actually this might help people#London is truly an ecosystem of it's own that you get so used to it kinda feels weird to be anywhere else?#But it's a very walkable city and I like it so I'm okay with that đ#Tma#The magnus archives#Tma fanfic#Fanfic#London#Writing#Writing tips#fanfiction#I don't know what else to tag this so let's just hope it ends up with the right people somehow đ

Got another DP x DC prompt for yall:
Things in Amity are going bad, the GIW are getting more aggressive and Jack and Maddie are starting to suspect there is something ghostly going on with Danny and Jazz is scared out of her mind and desperate to get them the hell out or dodge before she comes home one day to find her baby brother strapped to a table in the basement or worse.
She knows there's no way she's going to be able to get custody of Danny though (maybe she's still a minor herself, maybe she is over eighteen but it takes more than being a legal adult to get custody of a kid, and Jazz just doesn't have what the government is looking for and she can't risk Danny getting lost in the system) and even if she could, where could they possibly go? Even if they ran away, they don't have any way to survive.
Half out of her mind with stress and exhaustion late one night she ends up digging through their family tree looking for someone, anyone, that looks like they might be able to help, that could at least get them away from Amity Park if nothing else. She and Danny had each other, and literally anything was better then the nightmare creeping ever closer.
And somehow it doesn't even take that long, maybe luck finally shifting their way for once, maybe Clockwork nudging things along just right, but she finds someone.
As far as family relations go, they're on branches as far away from each other as possible while still being on the same tree. And of course the person in question has a pretty massive criminal background and is still super obviously involved in some shady stuff, but Jazz does her research and can see that - criminal mastermind or no - there's no history of vivisecting children or ghost hunting and honestly the Goonion review is pretty glowing.
Besides, Gotham's ambiant ectoplasm is about the same as Amity Park's, it'll help keep Danny (and her, really, as liminal as she is) healthy.
It's a long shot, but short of fleeing to the Ghost Zone and praying their parents don't chase after them, it's all sheâs got. So, using one of Tucker's programs, she gets ahold of a phone number and makes the call.
To say that Oswald Cobblepot is surprised by her reaching out and suspicious of her desperate request would be an under statement.
But he knows a con, and this doesn't sound like one. The girl on the other end of the line sounds close to tears, begging him to hear her out, pleading for his help. When he has his people investigate he finds that Jasmine Fenton isn't lying. They are distant cousins - very distant - and the kids' parents are honestly Arkham levels of insane and the kids' teachers have been getting progressively more frantic in their reporting on their concerns. The notes on Daniel Fenton and the number of visible injuries he's been going to school with are particularly concerning. As is the fact that the Drs. Fenton are apparently scientists on top of being entirely mad.
Call Oswald a soft touch, but there's an old childhood wound deep in his heart that has him feeling for the kids, and from what heâs seen of Jasmine - Jazz, she said to call her, and her little brother is Danny, not Daniel - she's got the kind of drive he admires.
And hell it's not as if he can't afford to put them up in an apartment somewhere out of the way if they turn out to be too much trouble. Besides adopting a couple of sad kids from a shitty home can only be good for his reputation, look how well it worked for Bruce Wayne.
Maybe if he plays his cards right, he can set up a play date with the Wayne kids or something, really get some good networking in.

He refuses to fall for the first person to show him kindness. He may be feeling sorry for himself, but that's a bridge too far.
Even if they are beautiful. And kind to everyone, not just him. And brave. And clever. And strong. And they love animals, and reading. And they have a wry sense of humour that he adores.
He won't. He can't. Besides all else, this is decidedly not the time. A bomb in his chest and a worm in his head and a weight on his shoulders and a shame in his stomach and a shattered heart he's still trying to gather the pieces of. Desperately clinging to the cloak of his past, wrapping himself in his former confidence, pretending it hasn't been worn threadbare with time in isolation and eaten ragged by the moths of doubt and fear and past mistakes.
He fell from grace so far so fast, but he cannot beg affection off the first hand to offer him help up, even if it is the first time he's touched another person in months. Even if that hand did send a sudden warmth through him and feel so right in his own he could almost cry from it.
...This is getting out of hand.
He can just be friendly with them, surely. How does one make friends, again? Shared interests? He mostly just has the one, so he'll share what he can. They pick it up quickly, and the warm magic that surrounds them is a balm on his soul. Right up until they imagine kissing him, and his heart skips a beat. It can't be. It can't be. They can't want him back. It's not possible. And how, after it all, after everything, is he meant to resist the overwhelming temptation of being wanted?
They don't let up, either. Lingering glances. Warm smiles. All but propositioning him at the tiefling party. If there is a single positive thing to be said about his year of orb-imposed abstinence, it's that the willpower he had to build up and the practice denying himself were the only things that enabled him to decline their advances.
Well, that and the risk of blowing up the both of them, along with everyone else in or near the camp.
The warm smiles and lingering gazes and casual touches still continue, though.
This is fine. He's fine. He can't remember the last time he felt like this, someone cared for him like this, and he can't do a damn thing about it, but he's fine. Everything is fine. As fine as it can be, anyways, given everything else about the situation.
He supposes he should probably be more upset about Mystra's orders. At this point, though, it's hard to feel like it's anything besides a way out. A relief that he can be good for something. One more miserable experience, and then he's done with it, and all their problems are solved. There are worse things.
Except.
They're so angry about it. Everyone is, but them especially. Arguing with both him and Elminster the entire time, insisting there's another option. That they'll find or make one. Whatever they have to do to keep him around.
Gods help him, but he does want to stay with them. Stay for them.
He sleeps that night, and awakens with a jolt, a groan, and a realization. He's glad that prestidigitation exists to clean himself up without leaving his tent and risking the others' notice. His body had, apparently, caught up with certain implications before his brain. Though from what snippets of his dream he remembers, maybe it was only his waking mind that had been lagging behind.
He wants them, and he can finally have them. Can give them as much of himself as he's able, in the time he has left.
He had refused, at first, the idea of falling for the first person to show him kindness. And he hasn't. He's fallen for someone who is so much more that that. And he will not, cannot, die without letting them know. If he has to leave them, and he fears he will, then he will not leave them feeling unappreciated, or uncherished, or unloved. Not when he can finally embrace the full depth and breadth of what he feels for them. Has felt for them for what can't have been more than a tenday or two, but feels like a lifetime and a moment all at once.
He will not leave without showing them the full scope of his admiration and appreciation and sheer joy at their presence. The full scope of how impossibly deeply he already loves them. Not while he has any say in it.

âGhost?â Soap asks as he pulls open the door, knife still in hand, baby still wailing. âWhat are ye doinâ here?â
âWhat am I doing here?â Ghost throws back at him, brows creased and eyes downright murderous, the kind of look that back at base would mean Soap is about to run laps until he pukes. âYou just disappeared for a bloody week, Johnny! Didnât even tell Price where you were going, arenât answering your fuckinâ phone, what the hell do you think Iâm doing here?â
âRight,â Soap says because yes right, he has a vague memory of Ghost texting him, but he also doesn't really have a clue where his phone is right now and he definitely wasnât aware itâs been a week until he just mentioned it. For a moment Ghost looks like heâs going to take him by the shoulders and shake, and then his eyes land on Joey, and he frowns harder as if he only just noticed that Soap is holding a screaming child.
âYou knock someone up, Johnny?â he asks and it sounds oddly offended but mostly like heâs taking the piss, so Soap is about to tell him to fuck off when thereâs a loud crash from the bathroom, followed immediately by a high shriek. He whips around, trips over one of Cassâ tiny toddler-sized shoes, and nearly impales himself on the damn knife if it wasnât for Ghost grabbing him by the arm to hold him steady.
âGive me the baby,â Ghost says like he says give me that gun when theyâre hunched over in the dirt, bullets flying past their heads, so Soap does.

First kiss
How your first kiss with your favorite CoD character would go.
Characters: Ghost, Soap, Price, Gaz, König all x reader Rating: sfw Word count: 650ish
Ghost
He was terrified that he was misinterpreting things and that if heâd ever make a move on you that youâd ridicule him for it, that heâd ruin your entire relationship with his emotions towards you.
You, on the other hand, were too afraid since he was so cold and emotionally unavailable, so it took both of you way too long to actually admit that you wanted more from each other than friendship.
You two got into a fight because you got upset that he almost got hurt on a mission. You get so frustrated because he just doesnât get why you are so riled up. At some point you just canât take it anymore. The words to explain yourself just don't come to you, so you just grab him and kiss him.Â
He pulls back for a second but the moment his mind catches up with you he pulls you back in and doesnât let you go for a long, long time.Â
Heâs been waiting for this for forever and now that he finally has the go ahead, he canât let go of you, grasping you like his life depends on it.
Soap
Heâs actually been pretty upfront about how he feels about you from the very moment you started getting closer, however he has not yet felt brave enough to actually get physically super close to you. Heâs been gone on missions a lot, he is afraid that it might be too much for you to handle and he wants to take things as slow as he possibly can.Â
It's late at night, you are on your way home from a restaurant and you are in his jacket and you just look so beautiful, he can not help himself.
He asks before he kisses you, but he simply can not help himself, his arm around your waist.
"Can I kiss you? Please?"
He does once, then a few more times on the way back home and about a hundred more times throughout the night, just for good measure.
Price
He loves treating you to gifts and dates. The day of your first kiss he had taken you to a concert of one of your favorite bands. He had his arms wrapped around you from behind, listening to your favorite song with you.Â
He leans down to put a kiss on top of your head and you just have to let him know how you feel about him, how important he is to you, so you turn around and kiss him back. He takes the hint immediately, just holding you close to him and kissing you over and over again. It feels like no one else is even there, just you and him.Â
Gaz
You and him were at his place, just watching a movie together. Without either of you actually intending it you had slid closer to him, your legs touching.
Even though he was scared, he laid his arm around your shoulders. You are best friends, he doesn't want to overstep and he doesn't want to get his heart broken.
You just looked at him and in that moment you both knew that you wanted it and just leaned in at the same time.
Neither of you paid any attention to the movie afterwards.
König
You two had been close but never really put a definition on your relationship. Your first kiss happened when he finally felt comfortable enough to take off his mask around you. You just couldnât help yourself as you finally saw his face, sad puppy eyes looking at you to react to what he looked like, almost as if he expected rejection.
He is so surprised when you just lean in to give him a kiss, not being able to express your emotions in any better way than to just show him directly.
You don't know at the time but it's his first "real kiss"Â and he wouldn't have wanted it to have any other way.

"Are you happier? Now that the war is over?"
It had been meant as a serious question, but from the look on Kira's face, she hadn't caught onto that. "What sort of question is that, 'am I happier'?" she asked, laughing a little as she spoke. "Of course I am! Who isn't?"
Shrugging, Julian forced himself to smile back at her. "No, of course," he agreed. "Silly question."
His smile clearly hadn't been convincing: Kira's own smile had faded as she looked at him more closely, her eyebrows creasing into a frown.
"Have I done something to make you think I'm not?" she asked sharply. "Why wouldn't I be?"
"No-- no, nothing like that," Julian said hurriedly. "I mean, obviously Odo's gone now, and Keiko and the Chief, and Worf, and... and the Captain... But that-- That's different, isn't it, I guess. You can be sad and happy at the same time, right?"
He cringed, knowing that he hadn't quite managed to make sense there: years of practice had made him very good at recognising Kira's 'baffled' expression.
"All these years," said Kira, slowly shaking here head, "and I still don't understand you, sometimes. Of course I miss Odo, and the others -- and while we're at it, of course I'm still angry and-- and upset about the things that happened during the war..." She made a face, banging her fist lightly against the table. "Damn you, you know I'm no good with feelings, that's... there's a lot more there, besides," she added. "And I'm sure as hell not going into that right now...
"But if you're asking whether I'd rather be here, now, living without the threat of the Dominion or the Cardassians, knowing my friends are alive and safe -- and if they're not, at least being able to mourn them in peace, not having to make decisions that could get us all killed if it goes even slightly wrong... or if I'd rather be back there, in the war -- well. It's no contest, is it?"
"In theory, no, of course--"
"In theory?" Kira asked incredulously. "Julian, are you saying you were happier in the war?"
"No!" he exclaimed: that hadn't been what he'd meant at all. "The war was-- it was... Well, you couldn't be happy during the war, could you? Everything was too awful, it was impossible."
"A lot of the time, yeah," Kira said softly. "And that's gonna stick with us for a long time -- but they're only memories, now. We made it."
"We did," Julian said quietly, his eyes fixed on the table. "I just... I thought I'd be happier, I guess. Now that it's all over."
Kira reached forward, brushing her hand over his. "That's what this is all about?" she asked. "You aren't happy?"
"I never said I'm not," Julian objected hotly, looking back up at her -- but a sigh slipped out of him as he realised he didn't actually have an argument, and he shook his head, slumping back into his chair. Kira watched him, not saying anything.
"No, you're right," he admitted, pulling his arms across himself, almost too tight. "I know I'm supposed to be-- I know, after everything, it's so stupid... But, Nerys, I don't-- I don't think I am?"
Stopping to swallow the lump that had risen in his throat, he noticed he eyes had grown wet, which for some reason made him chuckle. "Isn't that silly?" he asked, leaning forward again. "We won the war, but I'm still not happy."
"No, Julian," Kira replied slowly. "I don't think that's silly at all. It's just... It's just very, very sad." She took a breath, reaching out to hold both his hands this time. "I'm sorry," she continued. "I didn't know."
"It's not your fault," he said, squeezing her hands tightly. "For a while, I just thought everyone else was pretending, too, so I just went along with it... And then I started to realise that no, you were all actually at least a little bit okay, and so I had to keep pretending, because happiness is so fragile and I didn't, you know, want to make anyone else feel bad just because I..."
He trailed off, shrugging a little. "I don't know, Nerys. I guess I just wanted to check that it wasn't just me, but it is just me, and now I've told you, and I'm sorry, I didn't mean to make you feel bad--"
"Julian, no," Kira interrupted. "Thank you for sharing this with me -- I'm glad you told me, okay?"
Ears growing hot, Julian ducked his head, not quite sure to do with the wave of emotion spilling over him. Now that he'd told her some of it, he kind of wanted to let everything out. Distractedly, he started tracing patterns on her hands, pushing into them with increasing intensity.
"It's just-- I'm just..." He stumbled over his words, struggling to give voice to the one thought that he'd been trying to ignore for months. "What if this is it for me? What if I'm like this forever? It's been years, Nerys--"
To his horror, his voice cracked, and he covered his mouth, trying to hold back the sobs that were threatening to burst out. Hoping that no-one else had noticed, he looked around the replimat; thankfully the other diners seemed more interested in their own conversations than in him and Kira.
"Would you like to go somewhere less public?" Kira asked. Not quite trusting himself to speak, he nodded, and together they left the replimat.
As they walked down the promenade and up to the habitat ring, Kira steered clear of their previous conversation, chatting about the station, her week, her latest grievance with Quark, and Julian was grateful for the respite. But as soon as they were sat down in her quarters, she turned to him with a most serious expression.
"It isn't right, you feeling like that, you know," she said. "I don't have the answers, I don't know how it gets better -- but we both know someone who would. You haven't tried telling Ezri any of this, have you?"
Julian's stomach tightened: Ezri was the last person he wanted to have this particular conversation with. "Oh, yes, because that would go so well," he retorted sarcastically. "Hi Ezri, I love you, but you don't make me happy. Don't worry, it's not you, I'm just unhappy most of the time. Most of the time? Yeah, it gets better when I'm around you, because then I just kind of feel... nothing. What an improvement!"
"Julian..." whispered Kira, but it was all coming out now and Julian couldn't make it stop. He rose from the sofa, starting to pace as he spoke.
"Did you ever make me happy? Maybe, sweetheart, but I'm not even certain of that. I might have been so desperate for anything even resembling happiness that I just deluded myself into thinking I was in love... Do I even love you? Who the fuck knows, Ezri. Is love even real, or did it die in the war along with every-fucking-thing else?"
His voice had risen louder than he'd intended, condemning him with every word it pushed forcefully into the air. He'd made Kira cry, he thought, but he couldn't quite be sure, his vision being clouded by his own mess of tears.
"How could I possibly tell her that?" he asked, sitting back down heavily, his voice dropping to a hollow whisper. "Kira, how the hell do I tell her that?"
"Come here," she said in way of a response, pulling him against her and holding him tightly, so that he could feel her lips move against his hair as she answered him. "I don't know," she was saying, "but you have to, Julian. I can be there with you if you want but, Prophets, Julian, you have to. How could you not?"
How could he not?
Julian closed his eyes and let himself fall apart against his friend, not even bothering to try to answer her. It was terrifying, after all this time, to finally allow someone to see how broken he really was, but he was far, far too tired to keep it in any longer.

whom the shadows sing for â (and the thief's echoing hymn)
a/n: annnd we've made it to velaris ! yippee !! now it's time for all the introductions >:D i hope you enjoy pls let me know what you think angels <3 ok mwah bye
word count: 3.5k
synopsis: You wake up somewhere entirely new, a long, long way from your home.
CHAPTER EIGHT :: STRANGERS (AGAIN)
The air all around you is sickly sweet.
Maybe... sweet is the wrong word. The air is clean; perfumed with an allure of scents you've never smelt before, heady and swirling, sweet and sterile all in one.
But more importantly, it is utterly foreign.
You're in unknown territory. Age old instinct has you shifting the moment you wake, surging up in a rush before your memory can catch up and remind you why that's an terribly bad idea.
The sheets rustle as you push yourself up into a sitting position, a heavy dose of panic already poisoning your system. It doesn't take long for the pain to follow.
You falter in your movement as an aching agony ricochets through your body, forcing out a wince. Your eyes screw up in pain. Your entire body feels like a bruise, punishing you with every movement.
You allow yourself only a moment of pause before you force them back open to take on the new threat, every sense filtering in unknown information as they sluggishly come to life. You have to blink rapidly to clear your vision, light coming in from all angles.
Why does it feel as though you've been asleep for years?
Where are you?
A room. You're not outside which is where you memory places you last. The extent of the memory drifts back as you search the room, your eyes climbing the walls, ravenous for details. They're made of some kind of warm coloured stone that covers the whole ceiling, you realise, as you follow the line of it up.
You screw your eyes up again and blink hard when you open them again. Every sense keeps pinging for your attention, a thousand things unfamiliar. The bed beneath is too soft, the sound of the wind outside isn't a whistle, the clothes on your back...
You startle, stumbling off the bed you've awoken on as you peer down at yourself, eyes moving about wildly. You're wearing... something completely new.
Frowning down at your arm, you raise one of your hands and pinch at the new fabric that covers the expanse of your arms. It's soft. So soft.
You tentatively smooth your hands down the tunic you're clothed in, all the way down to your pants. Each thing is finely made, with details far smaller that you would ever consider, and soft. Warm but sturdy.
What the fuck? Your chest starts to heave as panic truly sets in, your breath just out of reach before you can catch it. You gasp, grasping at your chest tightly, the new clothes scrunching up beneath your fingers. Memories begin to trickle back in as your mind scours for any information about how you ended up here.
You had been... cold. It was raining.
And your wings had beenâyour wingsâyour brain trips over the thoughts as every detail bleeds back in, sudden and frightening.
Stakes driven through the flesh of them, your wings pulled taut, stretched out for lashings and prepped for removal. Your terror climbs, its cloying grip tightening around your sternum like a fist.
Eyes screwed closed, you pray to every deity you can imagine, begging the Mother for this one thing.
You twitch the familiar muscle and feel the weight of your wings as they respond. There's no describing the relief that bursts within you, overwhelming your panic in an instant, your knees nearly buckling beneath you. They're still moving, still stretching out as you command them, still yours.
You stand there and peer over your shoulder, stretching your wings out as far as you canâcringing when they stop before full extension, buckling and bunching up at the violent spike of pain that ripples through them. It echoes through your body, making you hunch forward and grit your teeth. Your left eardrum wails extra loud.
What had happened? What had changed?
You could recall the finality of being down on your knees in the pouring rain, your hands are bound as your fate. Endless agony. The secret you couldn't keep, despite all you had tried.
You had been resigned to itâto dying there amongst in the dirt from where you had come from.
So, what changed?
Behind you, there's an abrupt noise from behind a door in the room, a rustling that makes your head snap around to face it.
Someoneâs coming.
You stumble back a couple steps, dread mounting in your chest and your panic returns in full-force. You don't know where you are, you don't know how you got here, you don't know who is coming through that door.
You know that you have a lot more foes than you do friends.
Eyes darting around the room frantically, you spot a balcony down a small hallway and don't waste a single second.
As you begin to stride, you realise faintly that you're without shoes, feet bare on the cool marble floor. It turns to carpet beneath you as your fast strides transforms to a run, hearing the door open somewhere behind you.
It feels like a trap. Not the nice clothes or the fancy room would be enough to fool you. You're caught in a sickly sweet trap of honey and the net is being reined in, the ropes closing up on every side of you. It feels like you're being chased.
Heart in your throat and pulse rabbiting wildly, you burst through the doors of the balcony, daring a glance behind you without thoughtâ
âand you nearly plunge off the edge of a mountain.
The gasp that escapes your throat is entirely involuntary, your fingers gripping the edge of the stone railing the adorns the balcony.
Your balance tips momentarily, the momentum of your dash nearly pulling you over. Terror freezes you. You're fairly certain with the state of your wings, it would be a short flight and an almost guaranteed casualty.
But a wind blows gently against your face, as though helping push you back to safety.
When you're sure you're not going to topple over the edge, some of your crippling panic eases. Your breaths, short and fast, begin to slow.
Your eyes travel up from the daunting height of the mountain side and widen, all the air in your lungs stolen in pure surprise.
Because before you, stretching out across the land that meets the sea, is something you've never seen before.
It's... a city.
A city that sits amongst the rolling, steep hills of the terrain and curls around a meandering river that leads out to the ocean. Tall, jagged mountains surround it from all sides, their hills steep up the top until they give way to gentler slopes, eventually becoming paved roads and streets for magnificent buildings.
The structures gleam, even from afar, made with precision and beauty in mind. Some are white marble or warm sandstone, others the same red stone of the mountains beside the one you're standing on. Small, quaint houses with green copper roofs, their white chimneys smoking softly.
Your breath stutters out in an exhale and you don't dare blink.
A cityâa sprawling, wondrous city that was bursting with people, with colour, with life. So utterly unlike the chilled gray-scale of the Illyrian Mountains.
In fact, you wonder briefly if this was even the Night Court at all. Thisâ this incredible sight felt like something you'd imagined of Summer or Spring, imbued with warmth, a place where things could grow and thrive.
The Night Court was... foul. It was the biting frigid cold of the wintry mountains or the shudder-inducing darkness of the court that lay beneath the mountain. This... where is this?
As though you've spoken your thoughts aloud, a voice answers from behind you.
"Velaris."
You start, whipping around fast enough to reawaken all your wounds, forcing you to stifle a pained noise that leaps up your throat. Your heart thunders as your eyes lay upon an unfamiliar figure, stepping out from the empty hallwayâa form cut from the very night itself.
Your hands grip the stone railing behind you and you're unsure whether it's to keep your knees from buckling in fear or from bolting off the edge, into uncertain skies.
He's unfamiliar to you, yes, but you have a feeling you know exactly who he is.
"You asked where thisâ" The male waves a casual hand to the city beyond the balcony before pocketing it, either unaware of your panic or uncaring. "âis. You're in Velaris."
He surveys you, his violet eyes glancing down at the strained way you clutch at the railing.
"I know you must have a thousand questions. We haven't been introduced. My name is Rhysand and I amâ"
"I know who you are." You interrupt. There's a lilt of fear in your voice but you couldn't keep it out even if you tried. He's the fucking Highlord of the Night Court.
Which meansâAzriel.
His name slams into you like a shooting star, glowing hotly and dripping through your ribcage with a fire warmer than you've ever known.
Azriel must beâ he was the one- he's the reason you're still alive. It feels like you relive the relief of his appearance during the storm all over again, remembering that he came back for you.
You have no idea the cacophony of emotion you're giving off, shouting all your unguarded thoughts across the balcony.
Rhysand's cool expression doesn't falter at your disruption. He looks at ease, both hands in his pockets, like he's merely having a conversation with a friend.
"Then it's important for you to know," He continues. "that I mean you no harm."
Lying, lying, liar, LIARâthe thought festers from within you instinctively, only growing in its urgency. You and everyone else where you come from are well aware of the origins of your Highlord.
And while he's your ruler, he's first and foremost, an Illyrian male.
"Only half," Rhysand corrects.
You startle, sickly surprise at the fact he seems to be able to read your very thoughts.
Then he confirms it, by saying, "And I can."
"You can read my thoughts?" You echo, voice sounding so much meeker than you intend. You sound like a childâand you feel like one, feel like the same eight-year-old staring down at the scorched brown earth in Exordor. Old blood. The same dirt you had been forced to kneel upon that now makes you shudder at the fresh memory.
Rhysand's expression falters momentarily at your train of thought, a flash of hurt on his handsome face.
His eyebrows draw together, forming a sympathetic, troubled look. "I can teach you how to shield them, if you so wish."
You don't make a noise. You don't even dare to take a breath, your fingers still crushed around the railing.
Within you, some part of you knows what he's offering. What the very nature of his words implies. He voices it anyway.
"You're no prisoner here. You're free toââ
"Where's Azriel?" The question falls from your lips before you can even think to stop it. Fear hammers through your chestâFae that make a habit of interrupting Highlord's often find their lives cut short.
But Rhysand gives no impression that he minds. All he does is step to the side, revealing the empty hallway out to the balcony.
Except it's not empty anymore.
There, standing back to hide in the shadows as he did best, is your Shadowsinger.
Reserved and holding back, clearly waiting for you to remember him, to make your call before he made himself known. Making sure you wanted to see him at all.
Azriel, all 6ft something of shadow and muscle, with his wings tucked politely behind him, takes one step out on to the balcony and towards you.
His hands stay at his sides and his hazel eyes watch you with a familiar intensity. Something deep within you unfurls at the sight of him.
It feels like the collision of a thousand stars rain down on you, their jagged, burning fragments pelting into your body.
It's as though the world had been falling out from underneath and then, seeing him before youâwhen Cauldron knows how long ago you had been resolutely convinced you were never ever going to see him againâ suddenly your feet were grounded and the world was still.
You breathe out his name. Azriel sways forward, almost imperceptibly, as though the sound of his name on your lips was a siren call he was helpless to fight.
You don't know that you say it sweeter than he's ever heard it in all his centuries.
Like following an invisible tug, you don't even realise when you start moving, only that you're rushing towards him with an urgency you can't begin to comprehend. It's like he's calling to you and you can't bear to be this close to him and not press in closer.
His beautiful face, usually guarded, reveals a glimpse into his storm of emotions. Concern, care, and something that looks suspiciously like... longing.
Your brain catches up and your feet falter, bringing you to a stand still before him, chest heaving.
Reason starts to catch up to you, asking meanly about what exactly you meant to do, running up to himâyou weren't raised with physical touch beyond violence. You and Azriel had barely touched beyond sparring and those quiet nights in your shelter, skin brushing as you passed something to the other.
In the end, it's not you that moves, it's Azriel.
He closes the distance between you with one single step and his strong arms sweep around your middle, pulling you into the tightest hug. Night-chilled mist and cedar swirl your senses.
Helpless to do anything else, with no desire to do anything but this, you melt.
Your weight slumps into Azriel and he takes it without question, your arms curling around his neck to hold him back just as tightly. The light around you shifts, his shadows frenzied as they kiss along your neck and arms, all checking for hurt they can ease. Your heart is torn between soaring and stopping altogether.
The world fades away as his head ducks down, pressing his face the crook of your neck. It's more touch than you've ever known. More safety, more kindness than you've ever dreamed of. You and Azriel seem to exist only in a cocoon of shadow and warmth, in each others arms.
"You're alright," Azriel murmurs, his breath against your neck. It sounds more like he's reassuring himself than telling you. He sounds devastatingly sincere when he says, "I'm so fucking glad you're alright."
"Thanks to you," You whisper back, not wanting to break the silence. "Youâ"
The words get caught in your throat and you know you need to see his face when you say this. Pulling back from the embrace, you clear your throat as Azriel straightens up. You miss the heat of his body almost instantly.
"I-I thought I was never going to see you again."
It looks as though your words pain Azriel, a flash of pain and shame crossing his expression. His voice, low and gravelly, holds a guilty tone you've never heard him use before.
"I never should have left."
You blink. That wasn't what you had expected him to say in the least. It was you who had lied, who had deceived him from the very beginning. He wasâ he hadâ this was what you got for letting anyone get close to you, you understood that.
You shake your head, pointedly ignoring how it makes your injuries throb. "I know why you did, Azriel. I can't imagineâ"
Azriel's scarred hands clench into fists at his sides, anguish colouring his face.
"No." He shakes his head, his jaw clenched tightly. "You did nothing wrong. Nothing."
"Then why did you leave?" Your questions comes out with an edge this time, a biting fury as your emotions process what he's saying.
He says you did nothing wrong. He says he shouldn't have left you behind. It's a ugly mixture of hurt and anger that paints your insides as realisations churn to the surface.
Azriel steals a glance to the side, serving as a quick reminder that there was, indeed, someone else still out on the balcony with you. You glimpse at the Highlord as your anger begins to bubble but you can't bring yourself to care.
You had... trusted himâ you had let him in, let him get closer to you than anyone ever had, and he had left. He left, he left, he left. He did exactly as you had feared and he was wrong for it.
The greatest secret of your life, exposed like a raw nerve, and he hadn't said a word as he deserted you.
Your heart warbles at the betrayal and you can't help but step back, putting distance between the two of you. It's such a far cry from the nearness of a moment ago.
And even though you know he wasn't responsible for the events that followed, in the haze of your upset, it's awfully easy to add it to his betrayal. As if in response, your wings flinch and shudder as a wave of agony passes through them. You wince, gritting your teeth and turning your gaze to the ground.
"I can leave to give you both some privacy," Rhysand cuts into the conversation, evidently answering Azriel's pointed glance in his direction. "However, I don't think it will be overtly helpful. She's shouting every thought so loudly, I think I'll be able to hear it from the other side of the house."
She. It's been so many years since anyone has used that in reference to you that it nearly winds you, your entire body giving a visible flinch.
It feels foreign. You can't quite tell how you feel about it; whether it's some lost part of yourself to reclaim or whether it's something you've outgrown altogether.
You don't get time to consider it further as, bustling as she walks, a fourth Fae steps out onto the balcony. She's an older female in appearance but certainly not in her sprightliness. Her eyes land on you and they lighten up, as though you're the one she's been searching for.
"You are supposed to be resting." She tsks, without much further explanation. Your heart sinks, already feeling as though you're in trouble. Rhysand, reading your abrupt switch from anger, jumps in to explain.
"Madja, here-" He gestures to the female with a polite smile- "is our resident healer. She's been taking care of you over these last couple days, helping to heal your wings."
A severe reminder of the sorry state that had been in not too long ago. Glancing over your shoulder, your eyes glaze over as they take in the dozens of scattered markings that litter your wings. Irreversible. Your glorious love, changed forever.
There's patches over the ends that you hadn't noticed before, covering where you know the stakes had been. You suddenly feel an immense rush of gratitude towards the stranger before you.
"Thank you," You say, your throat thick. You want to say it again, want to repeat it over and over til your lungs bleed because just once doesn't seem enough.
But Madja nods in a grave way, as though she knows your internal turmoil.
"You weren't supposed to be up and moving quite so soon," She says, this time with less disapproval in her voice.
She directs a more withering look towards Rhysand and Azriel, enough to surprise you. Perhaps, healers held a higher rank within the city than they did in the mountains? The whole scene looks like a mother scolding her naughty children, especially with how both males shrink beneath her glare.
"Anyhow, come now," She turns back to you and gives a gentle wave of her weathered hand, ushering you back inside. "You'll need at least a days rest before you should be back on your feet."
You amble in her direction, too fearful to glance back at the Highlord and too conflicted to turn back to Azriel. You had broken his trust with your deceit but... he had broken your trust back.
He had abandoned you when you needed him most. But he had also turned up during your darkest hour and saved your life.
You weren't sure what you wanted to do more; hug him once more or throw a shoe at his head. Probably both would make you feel better.
From behind you, you swear you hear a faint chuckle of amusement.
â
When it's just the two of them on the balcony, Rhys turns to Azriel, ignoring his brother's unsubtle sullen demeanor.
"So," He grins. "Mates, then?"
Azriel casts a glance across the balcony, still rigid and unmoving from his spot. His shadows perk up at the word but Azriel gives no reaction beyond a twitch in his jaw muscle. Debating whether to respond at all.
Finally, he mutters, "How could you tell?"
Rhys tilts his head back, chuckling quietly, his mind cast back to an old, fond memory. His violet eyes slice back to his Azriel and he gives a little shrug. "A hunch, really. I think I might have enough to start a theory actually."
He wanders over and nudges Azriel with his shoulder, breaking him from his frozen spot and nodding for them to both head indoors. Rather reluctantly, the Shadowsinger falls into step. Side by side, Rhys gives him only a moment of quiet to stew in before he pipes up once more.
"Sayâ how much do you remember Cassian and Nesta's first meeting? Any flying projectiles?"
