Okay I know I wanted this specific blog to be more objective when it comes to ships, but this is ship related and I need to actually use this blog more

Anyways, on to the topic, there's something I've noticed when it comes to two particular Dark Choco ships

So most of us know about the whole darkmilk age debate that goes on, or at least that it was a thing. I may not personally ship it, but I think by this point I can acknowledge that it doesn't hold as much water as a problem as I initially thought

Yes, when the first two met, as shown in at least CRK, Milk was a child, while Dark Choco was at best a teenager, and those are two very different age groups. However, it has also been stated that the two have not met, at least not in any sort of meaningful way, since then, and currently, the two are adults. By this point in their lives, their age difference isn't really a problem, especially because at the only point where it potentially could be, they only met once. It was profound for Milk at least, and Dark Choco does remember it, but there is no issue of their potential romance starting there. Admittedly it might be a little weird, particularly since they semi-remember each other, but it isn't wildly problematic

But do you know what Dark Choco ship this argument actually would stand a genuine problem for? Carachoco

This really may not be a big deal since the ship isn't super popular, as the far more common headcanon is to make them siblings/family, but it is still a ship I've seen at least one or two people ship

But getting back to the point, we have been told multiple times that Dark Choco was the one to teach Caramel Arrow to use a bow. We also know that Cookies of the Dark Cacao Kingdom start learning to wield weapons as children due to their harsh environment, meaning that Carrow would have likely been a child, or at least a young teenager by this point. And if Dark Choco was made to be her mentor, he was presumably old enough, and older than her, so that he was considered qualified to do so, being a teenager at best. So for them, there is again, a noticeable age gap at the time they would have first met

But unlike darkmilk, whom only would have met that one time, Carrow and Dark Choco would have met many more times than just that one. Not to mention, Carrow is a Watcher at the Black Citadel Dark Choco lived in, and would presumably be training to do so at this time. So, these two would have extended time to get to know each other, and wouldn't have much reason to be apart for extended periods of time, at least until Dark Choco's banishment, and we don't know how old either party was at that time, other than Dark Choco presumably ranging from teenager-young adult (and likely the latter). And quite honestly, even if you make it after his banishment, it's still awfully sketchy for Dark Choco to fall in love with his former student

Carachoco actually does have the age difference problem darkmilk supposedly has, it's just that it isn't as noticeable since Caramel Arrow's age difference with Dark Choco isn't really stated, just implied on occasion

I realize that this is probably unnecessary, especially since carachoco isn't a popular ship and the darkmilk discourse does seem to be mostly behind us, and maybe this is just dredging up things best left to rest. But this is something I remembered, and I just wanted to share this info with you so more people know

i had a little rant? not exactly rant but something that's been itching my mind a bit haha, i hope you don't mind me sharing it with you! i genuinely want some advice over this.

as a long fic writer, how do you consistently come back to writing your fic without getting bored? i looooove writing long fics too (big lover of slowburn and angst lol) but i always get so impatient and bored of writing the story so quickly :(

i'd posted a teaser for a fic a while back and it got a good amount of traction (something i will always be grateful for) and someone asked me when i would release the full fic, to which i gave them a tentative date. fast forward to the day before the day i said i would post the fic and you have me typing out paragraphs upon paragraphs of stuff that i absolutely loathe in my writing. i ended up posting the fic anyway, but it's been only a day and i already want to take it down—not bc it's not getting any attention, because it is, but more so bc i hate that fic and would do anything to rewrite it.

iirc your joshua fic, 'best friend's brother' was a rewrite of a fic you'd written earlier, right? was your thought process similar to this? where did you start your rewriting process from? did you have any second thoughts when you took it down the first time?

and i don't mind at all! these are rly insightful questions :o though i'll just chunk my answers a bit so i'm not all over the place.

not getting bored to be honest, i'm not sure if i ever "get bored" of writing out the plot. but i definitely get burnt out, and sometimes i get downright sick of reviewing my own writing, to the point where i just have to close my laptop and walk away. i think the most important & overarching piece of advice i can give--not just in terms of long fics but any fic for that matter--is to never force anything & take breaks!

when i'm busy at uni, there are like 5 month breaks where i don't bother writing at all. i always think that the second i have free time, i should theoretically want to write, but sometimes i just don't. and i make peace with it bc i know the second i force anything i will end up hating it (also takes the fun & enjoyment out of the process).

i think if you're getting bored, it's probably a sign that your body & mind just isn't interested in writing at the moment. so i would step away & take a break and attempt to get your mind off the plot. i think that taking a break also invigorates your mind a bit and gives you newer, better ideas (at least from my experience).

bfb rewrite the reason i rewrote best friend's brother was bc the og fic was from 2016, when my writing style was completely different. i still liked the concept but naturally, as my writing grew, i just detested the way the old ver was written, which spurred me to create the rewrite.

i wanted to give the characters a lot more depth & beef up the plot, so the new fic is actually a lot different in comparison to the old one. i wasn't attempting to do a scene-for-scene rewrite--it was simply just my approach to an old concept that i felt i could now execute better.

as to how i went abt rewriting it, i just picked out moments from the old fic that i liked and built around them. for instance, i rly liked the "skipping stones" scene that shows some intimacy & tenderness between joshua and reader. but it can't just happen out the gate. so i had to figure out the typical "why, when, and how is this moment happening right now?" from scratch.

the thing with long fics for me, it honestly is a test of patience & dedication!! bc it can truly be so frustrating :( a lot of times, you want to jump right into the good parts bc those are like the shiny glimmers that make the fic attractive. but depending on how impactful you want those moments to be, build-up is sooooo key! the thing is, build-up is just so critical in my opinion, but it can also be such a pain to write :p

i find when i review my writing, these are scenes i criticize or change the most--more than the big, hard-hitting scenes. bc to me, it's such a specific thing that you have to nail down justttt right. it's a lot of thinking and finagling and i think this process is what i dread the most? especially when it refuses to turn out how you want it--ugh, so discouraging!! but once you get it's like a silky flowy river!!

the big takeaways (i guess?) 1. taking breaks is so important! 2. don't force anything xxxx 3. take the big moments & build around them i totallyyyyy understand your frustration!! there have been so many moments where i'm like I NEED TO WRITE AHHHHH and then i promptly open the document only to sit there, blankly read a few sentences, and then get this rly big sinking feeling in my gut that is essentially telling me "never mind" and honestly i just listen to it bc if i'm gonna close & open the document 10 times in a row i obviously don't want to write. i'm just searching for something fulfilling and clearly not finding it in the task at hand so i should do smth else.

(or was it 2020??? pretty much everyone had that as their pfp) with like the wolves and the blue/pink or blue/orange??? yeah. now that the trend is dead, i draw something based on that. because it only gets appealing when no one shoves it in your face. basically what Moriah Elizabeth said (awesome artist, 2011-2015 Kyary-esque but not as wacky. or as Japanese.)

Amy as a ghost cuz Kumo to Yuurei but how he looked like in the Nautilus MV but kinda gory cuz human bodies disintegrate underwater over time i think??? the quick google search i did last last month said that so um yeah his ghost be part exposed bone with the background from the literal end of the Dakara Boku wa Ongaku wo Yameta MV (as in he looks behind before he oofs himself end)

and then on the right we have Nautilus. just the scene from Nautilus where Elma's holding the guitar like opposite sides of a magnet do to each other and she's crying and the papers of something she held flew away

and both of them are standing at the dock Amy oofed himself on, and from the Wikipedia article i read on types of Yuureis, um yeah Amy's ghost is literally. supposed to be there.

also i added some text cuz well Amy's really confused as to??? why the heck isn't Elma responding??? like yeah he's a ghost now but he's a Yuurei, right??? so like he gets to interact with the human world for the last time now that the reason he couldn't move on is here why can't he (but then [insert some really random reason that makes absolutely no sense here because Japanese folklore makes roughly as much sense as the PONPONPON MV] and then he just ends up moving on to a rebirth anyways)

Regardless, she had a neatly wrapped gift box in her paws. “I… I don't know if you c-celebrate Christmas…” she started muttering, then attempted to make her voice louder, “But I made you a present…! So, m-merry Christmas, anyway!” She quickly offered the box before she lost her nerve, and backed away.

Inside the box was a hand-knit black and red cap with a little puff ball on top!

Already used to his own towering height and knowing he had no reason to be wary of the laidback rabbid, Dark Choco had brought himself down to one knee for easier interaction by the time Rosa had pushed herself to speak up. He furrowed his brow as he took the gift, which... definitely wouldn't be helpful if she was already so nervous.

But the confusion was definitely justified. 'Christmas' was a word he'd heard thrown around from time-to-time, Beep-0 and the others especially bringing it up in conjunction with plans to revisit Pristine Peaks, but he'd never really gotten a grasp on exactly what it was.

"I don't. I've never seen a holiday like it before..."

He admitted, biting back the urge to say 'back at home, in the Dark Cacao Kingdom'. It was hard to imagine he'd be going back there anytime soon, what with everything that'd happened and where he was now. What point was there in thinking back on traditions he didn't deserve - and would never be welcome - to partake in ever again?

As far as he was aware, he had no home.

"But it does sound... nice."

Moving on, Dark Choco began to pull at the ribbon holding it together, undoing that before peeling away the wrapping paper with the awkwardness of someone who didn't know if he was supposed to preserve it or simply tear into it. Regardless, his hands eventually reached the gift itself, carefully pulling it out.

A hat.

It was then that Vampastra - one of the Sparks they'd assigned to him, though not without a healthy amount of debate first - decided to float in from seemingly nowhere, already much more visibly pleased with the gift than Dark Choco was. "It looks great! Put it on, put it on!" He urged, and the prince obliged.

It was about as nice and snug as it looked. Vampastra flashed a large, fanged smile while Dark Choco gave a much more reserved smile.

"You didn't have to do this... Thank you."

He was definitely going to mess with the puffball on top later.

Ivy looked up from her book and asked:"Harley, babe I love you. But, who's fucking kids are these, where did you get them?"

Harley: "I found them outside, I thought we could keep them. "

Said kids where actually Teenager's. The older sister with long red hair looked at her, while her younger brother was busy eating all the fruits from the bowl on the table, like some sort of starving bunny.

The older of the two said:" We're sorry miss. My little brother and I where just looking for a place to spent the night. And Dr. Harley offered us a room."

Ivy looked at the two, they looked hunted, chased, sleepless and burned out. The younger was definitely hurt.

Ivy:"curse my soft heart. You can stay. What are your names."

"I'm Jazz and this is my baby brother Danny."

Ivy asked:"what are you doing in Gotham, where are your parents?"

Jazz:" they are busy, we came here on our own."

Harley was at the oven making the kids some hot chocolate and said :" So runaways, why did you run."

Danny looked up and was lying really bad:" We, didn't want, to go to school anymore. So we run away, to open a, food truck."

Ivy:"kid next time just say you're gay. People will believe that way easier."

Jazz:"our parents are kinda mad, there scientists. But it got worse with the years. So I had to get Danny out of there."

Danny offered her an Apple, but he didn't say anything.

Harley came and gave the the hot chocolate:"after hot choco, a shower and some sleep. The world will look better already."

Both took the chocolate, but Ivy saw that Danny was just blowing one time in it and it was cold. Of course Harley had to find them a meta teen on the run.

After the two teens where gone to sleep Ivy looked at her girlfriend:"Harley what are your plans for the kids, should I contact Batman to get them?"

Harley was playing with her blond hair as she smiled charming at her loved:" I thought we could keep them."

Ivy looked at her:"you can't be serious. Danny is an ice meta. He could freeze my plants."

"yeah but what if we don't help them? Batman could make them to Robin's. And Jazz hair is red we just tell people they are your biological kids." explained Harley.

Ivy stared at her:" even if I would say yes, we don't know what would come at us.

The Question was answered halfway, as they where checking on the kids and Danny woke up alarmed with the words:" I'm not a Ghost."

Then he get back to sleep and flew around in the room.

Harley smiled :"Come on Pam you where also thinking about having kids."

Ivy just said:" fine, let's try this they can stay as long as they want. But I'm still not sure about this cover story. Why do they have to be my kids?"

to be honest, i'm not sure... i'm in the proofreading stages (i'm actually always in the proofreading stage, UGH) where i go through with a fine-tooth comb. i also have to decide how i'm gonna split the fic up, how many phases it should be divided into, etc.
