#botched art #super mario #yes i let my sonic fixation into this sketchpage too #because while i was staring at the brothership models it kept occurring to me #how many features and proportions mario in particular has with sonic #luigi is lankier so it doesn't hit quite as strong with him #i also kept staring at the Shading Circle thinking like #“that can't be it. there has to be more. there isn't even a highlight”#but that's the thing #the cell shading doesn't have a highlight on the character models #just a thin black outline and the soft shading on the veeeery edge of minimal features #these bros are mostly flat colors!! and being in-game seeing them moving tricks my brain into seeing more depth than there is #i'm still so bad at drawing these two after years of various attempts #it starts with the face shape. trying to place the cheek curve while knowing that it'll be covered by the nose and mustache anyway #then its the nose. god i hate trying to draw the nose #then its the ear hair which i can never quite place right #and after struggling with all that i sweat profusely and spend 20 minutes just trying to sketch the mustache #then have to adjust said mustache a minimum of 5 more times until it looks right #and then the hats?? the fucking hats????#you'll notice i didn't draw them for the purposes of this page. guess why. guess.

Never drawing a person ever again. I can never figure out what to do with the arms. I mentioned that I planned on drawing my five favorite Princesses from Slay the Princess. I'm almost done, except I have been redrawing the Adversary's arms like five or six times and they still don't look right. I still can't get them proportionate to her body or in a pose that makes sense. Also the hands look wrong. Everything looks wrong. This is why I am primarily a writer and not an artist.

I have not been writing enough lately and it's all the Princess's fault. (/joke. Actually I haven't been writing enough lately because my WIP hates me and because I am depressed.)

thinking abt wanting to practice art again and i was feeling discouraged and thinking abt what i consider my greatest talent, writing, and how that comes naturally to me and generally takes no effort to write something Good. then the memory of my first beyblade fics when i was 11 hit me like a runaway train and i was like oh shit no. i did suck at it. and i did practice and grind and work hard and study and consume media i loved and hyperfixated and locked in. and i'm like oh my god. why can't i do that with drawing

#i think its the aphantasia and dyscalculia coming together to make my brain unable to envision proportions or anatomy or anything.#if i had to blame something #i used to draw a lot and wanted to go to school for art (rip lmao)#if i had the ability to give myself any skill in the world it would be drawing. drawing people and places and things #oh my god i'm remembering a bird i drew in hs art class. the 1st time i ever tried realism #and it's such a good fucking drawing and it stunned me and idk how i even did it #that's like my magnum opus literally the only thing remotely realistic i could draw #i can do like. cartoon animals #my little ponies. littlest pet shop. even simpler things #but i'm so bad at drawing people 😭#maybe i can start out with chibis and super simple art styles. cutesy stuff #bc the anatomy and realism is what breaks me and makes me give up (i give up way too easily that's the biggest problem)#the bird's name was frederico #not ts

#codacheetah #my art #pokemon #pkmn #vulpix #fennekin #ok so #idk preface i'm not a modern pokemon design hater this is not hater art #but i do think. the style shift progression of pokemon has been fascinating to watch.#a lot of early pokemon particularly the first mmmmm two generations were relatively sensible proportionally #a lot of pokemon that feel like animals but to the left.#and as time has worn on pokemon i think have kind of shifted away from 'balanced' design towards 'cartoon' design #like fennekin. ridiculously huge head with big huge eyes and dramatic fur tufts and tiny little neck and body #compare to vulpix which is also a ridiculous chibi animal mind you. but its proportions are more grounded in reality #head that's only Mildly too big for its body and smaller eyes and visible paws (vs. fennekin's stumps)#i've always felt like fennekin and vulpix is like the kind of microcosm of pokemon designs shifting to be sleeker and more exagerrated #where it's so apparent since they have the same basic design idea #hell you can kind of see it with alolan vulpix. slimmer neck smaller body bigger eyes #this post is kind of meaningless i've just been thinking abt it lately #pokemon no longer has a consistent artstyle. there are many galarian and paldean pokemon that i dont think ever would have made it in rby #and many early gen pokemon look visibly different to the new because they are more simplistic and understated #this is not a bad thing it is just a Thing. it's the natural growth of a franchise where they have to reach further with ideas and designs #with each generation. because there's 1000 of these fuckers. we are long past Basic Fox and Basic Bird and Basic Bug #every pokemon has to be uniquely charismatic and recognizable when they have so much competition #anyways all this to say i think vulpix and fennekin look ridiculous standing next to each other but in a vacuum? both designs are nice

With the sheer number of uncontrolled/nearly uncontrolled crash landings (including crashes that lead to the ship being half buried in the ground) that Star Wars characters walk away from with few to no injuries... Let's just say I am SUPER impressed with whatever shock absorption technology Star Wars ships are built with.
