Can I make a confession?
I used to think Sk8er Boi (that song by, I believe, Avril Lavinge) was about cliques, not a snubbed crush.
I was a baby aroace. "He was a boy, she was a girl. Could I make it any more obvious?"
Clearly, you could have. XD I thought the "obvious" part was "she's a girl so she cares about her appearance (a pretty ballet dancer) and he's a boy, so he cares more about doing actions (a daring skater)."
I always thought it was kind of stereotypical to start a song like that, but I liked the direction it went with the way the song told the story in my head.
"She stuck up her nose because he wasn't One of the Popular Kids and was thus beneath her. But he becomes a famous rock star, so who's laughing now?!"
I mean, I definitely got the "vengeful"(?) sort of vibe. I am very tired right now and thus cannot remember the correct word. Irony, but triumphant? Meh.
What I'm saying is, I appreciated the story even without the element of romance ever crossing my mind.
Is that a testament to how good the song's story is? Or a testament to Exactly How Aroace I Am?
Both, I think. I think it's both.
#rhs music#rhs childhood#rhs personal posts#I had to stop myself from doing Entirely Satirical Conspiracy Theories about how Ben Moody split from Evanescence#and wrote Sk8er Boi as a Vengeance Song about all that (because he did write with Avril Lavigne)#but I absolutely do NOT want anyone to take it seriously. I don't even think he contributed to that song specifically.#Could be wrong. But like. I feel like I would have Heard About It.#(It's like all the Tarja fans thinking ''I Walk Alone'' is about Tarja leaving Nightwish.#I'm pretty sure her song about that is ''Enough'' actually but these theories Take Root in peoples' minds#and even if I meant it entirely satirically I wouldn't be surprised if someone Took It Seriously.)#((For the record re: Tarja's songs I HAVE read her saying I Walk Alone is NOT about the split from Nightwish#but thinking ''Enough'' is about that is actually purely 100% My Own Personal Theory.#It reminds me so much of something similar I experienced and it just captures that mood So Perfectly. So I may just be Projecting#But I haven't seen her commentating on it either way for That Song Specifically.............))#i'll take my conspiracy theory hat off now

cw: Short drabble, comedy mostly,
pairing: Emmet/Reader
A funny idea popped into your head as you watched the twins work. Both seemed completely lost in their tasks, so you opted to strike while they were least expecting it. Calling out to them, you managed to get Ingo to turn his head toward you and question what you needed. Emmet kept focused on the paperwork on his desk, likely exhausted of filling out an injury report. It seemed despite his constant reminder to check safety, some decided to ignore his heeding.
“Are you guys twins or something?” you questioned them. Ingo's expression shifted instantly to something completely unamused, while Emmet whipped his head up to look at you in bewilderment. Neither seemed to take your words well. Yet, you still got a laugh out Ingo's sigh and shake of his head.
“Of course not, we are simply two men who happen to look identical and share parents,” he replied, giving a rare bout of sarcasm, “… Quite strange, isn't it? That us identical strangers would find ourselves sharing an apartment and job. You would truly almost think us related, no?” Emmet gasped out at Ingo's words. You found your laughter strengthened. What a concept! A world where they were not twins. It seemed truly impossible with how much of themselves they had based on their bond as brothers and twins.
“Mhm, yep! Verrrry odd, indeed!” Emmet agreed to play along, “My stranger seems to think he is my older brother. It can be annoying when he orders me around.” Ingo shot a look at him. The younger twin only gave an unyielding smile in return. The older one of the two crossed his arms and narrowed his gaze. A dangerous look. Of course, only if one did not know what a softie Ingo was under it all. Of which, you and Emmet did. A head tilt was Emmet's only reply. The two were clearly having one their wordless conversations. You felt a bit left out.
“Well, I apologise but I'm only interested in twins, so I'll be going now,” you continued. Emmet looked at you before rushing over to catch you. Ingo appeared mortified by his younger brother's actions. You laughed more as he clung to you tightly. Eelektross truly did suit the man.
“That's mean, darling,” he whined, “… Me and Ingo are verrrrry close. Why ask such an odd question?” You leaned into his embrace, enjoying his hold quite a bit.
“… I don't know. Haven't you seen those theories online that you two aren't twins?” you recalled some insane conspiracy theories about the two. Emmet tilted his head. Ingo seemed shocked.
“Are you saying…” Ingo began.
“… People think we aren't twins?” Emmet finished, letting you go to pull out his phone. He began to type in the theory. Ingo took off his hat and scratched his head.
“… That is certainly a first…” The older one already sounded exhausted by the concept, “I cannot recall a time in our lives where that was not the first thing someone noticed. We don't exactly hide it…” They really did not. Matching outfits were extremely common with the two. They even attempted to mimic each other to eerie success. Emmet gasped at his phone.
“I am not a Ditto!” he was deeply offended, “Rude! Brother, look at this!” The phone was jousted toward Ingo, who took it from his hands. He then had a similar reaction to his twin.
“Why are they all theories about you not being human? That is so oddly cruel,” he put the phone down and shook his head. “… Assuredly, you must know better than this,” Ingo gazed at you seriously. You nodded. Really… You loved Emmet. That would be the furthest thought from your mind. Both relaxed at that and let themselves settle back into their work, Emmet returning to his desk.
“I do buy the clone theory, though,” you said before heading out the door.
Each looked offended once again.
Later on, you explained that one of them was technically a genetic clone of the other considering how identical twins worked.
They had to relent to that one, unfortunately. Yet, this brought a debate over who was the “clone.”

SPOILERS if you haven't seen this week's episode obviously
We start off the episode with this shot of Superman with the drawn on glasses. A good homage to what Lois did in the 1980 Superman II movie...
where she not only drew the glasses but also a full suit and hat on a picture of Superman.
Next we see Jimmy waking up and seeing someone debunking his conspiracy theories on Sub-Diego.
Sub Diego was an actual place in the DC universe before the New 52 reboot. In Aquaman #15 and #16 (2003) , shown here (W: Will Pfeifer, P: Patrick Gleason, I: Christian Alamy, C: Nathan Eyring, L: Jared K. Fletcher for issue 15, Nick Napolitano for issue 16). The underwater city is actually San Diego, but is buried underwater thanks to a tidal wave and makes its first appearance in Aquaman #15 (2003). There was a lot of casualties from this.
When we get to our title its "You Will Believe A Man Can Lie" a reference to the tagline for the 1978 Superman movie.
As seen here on the poster, it says "You'll believe a man can fly".
Next we see our villain, well one of the villains, for the episode, Heatwave.
In the comics Heatwave makes his first appearance in Flash 140 (1963) (cover art by Carmine Infantino, Murphy Anderson, and Ira Schnapp). Heatwave aka Mick Rory is a Flash rogue usually acting as a rival to Captain Cold aka Leonard Snart. In MAwS, their Heatwave shares the same last name and powers, but MAwS Heatwave is gender flipped. You might have seen Heatwave in the CW DC comics shows where he is played by Dominic Purcell in The Flash and Legends of Tomorrow.
Lois, later in the episode, name drops Heatwave's name. Gotta be honest when Heatwave showed up I was like is that Rampage? Cuz the MAwS design looks vaguely like Rampage.
If she does show up in MAwS, I'll talk more about her in another post, but for now, Rampage aka Karen Lou "Kitty" Faulkner, makes her first appearance in Superman #7 (1987) (full page here: W&P: John Byrne, I: Karl Kesel, C: Tom Ziuko, L: John Costanza).
Steve drags Jimmy to film his debunking Flamebird videos and references Starro who I talked about here.
Lois, later runs around with the Daily Planet police scanner trying to catch Superman and the dispatcher reports that a robbery is in progress at McGuinness Luxe Garage.
This is a nice reference to Ed McGuinness who was the artist for Superman, Action Comics, and Superman/Batman in the early 2000s. If you've seen Superman/Batman: Public Enemies, then you'll know the movie takes inspiration from his character designs in the first arc of the Superman/Batman comic series. The Superman/Batman #1 (2003) cover here is done by Ed McGuinness, Dexter Vines, and Dave Stewart. I like Ed McGuinness's pencils, very stylized.
Heatwave name drops Livewire and the Gazzo mod family. Both of whom I've talked about here and here respectively
Heatwave has been running away from Deathstroke here who has been taking our her crew. Notice that Slade Wilson doesn't have the half black half orange helmet yet that almost every Deathstroke depiction always has.
He, Amanda Waller, and the General who I totally think is General Sam Lane, Lois's dad, are fans of DBZ cuz of the scouters they're wearing.
Later in the scene we see the General again he's totally General Sam Lane. I'll talk more about him when we get a double confirmation through a name drop/reveal in a later post calling Amanda Waller, Mandy. What a fucking bold thing to say to Waller! Like damn! power move right there!
Superman and Deathstroke are fighting under a highway and we see the traffic is heading to Bludhaven!
Very good reference to my favorite character in all of pop culture, Dick Grayson aka Nightwing. Nightwing makes Bludhaven his city to protect. The city makes its first appearance in Nightwing #1 (1996) (the panel here - W: Chuck Dixon, P: Scott McDaniel, I: Karl Story, C: Roberta Tewes, L: John Costanza). Fun Bludhaven fact, its crime rate is WORST than Gotham! Also HIGHLY recommend reading the new Nightwing run cuz its fucking amazing! Won a few Eisner Awards (think the Oscars but for comic books) recently and I am not just saying that because I am a Dick Grayson fan.
Near the end of the episode, we see Lois willing to jump off a building to prove that Clark is Superman. A lot of discourse was happening online over this, but I do want to say this is pretty on brand for her to do.
In Superman II, Lois does something similar and Clark saves her. its just in MAwS, Clark flies to save her thus ruining the secret identity, while in Superman II, Clark does save her but he is still able to get away with it thanks to him playing it more subtly.
Don't know why people we're in such a fucking fit over something that Lois has done before.
In the after credits scene, Jimmy, who planned a sasquatch finding adventure with Lois and Clark, but they were dealing with their shit and Jimmy was by himself, decides to do the finding on his own and meets a giant gorilla. In the first episode Jimmy mentions an intelligent gorilla in France and my guess is this is Monsieur Mallah. You can read more about him here. A 100% serious, short King Of The Hill fanfic about Dale Gribble
Set in a world where autism evaluations are easy and less lengthy for writers convenience.
There is no nsfw under the cut, simply didn't want to make my post incredibly lengthy for people who are scrolling past.
Any jabs or insults to certain politicians are not meant to be political in any way shape or form,I talked to my great aunt and used the first politician she brought up.
Any criticism on my writing is accepted as I'm hoping to get more into writing fanfic. Any criticism on the story itself or the characters is not allowed.
It was a hot day in Arlen and Dale,Hank,Bill and Boomhaur were standing in the alley as usual.
“-and then,I'm going to hitchhike to Canada and expose the whole operation! Blow it all up right in their faces!” Dale shouted excitedly.
Hank groaned loudly,he hated hearing about Dale's terrible plans, especially when Nancy was away like this, that meant he was going to have to bail Dale out...and usually have to bail out Boomhaur and Bill when they undoubtedly got dragged into Dale's problems “Dale, you cannot go to Canada”
“and why not? Are you in cahoots with them?” Dale turned to Hank quickly.
“I am not in cahoots with whoever 'them' is,you've known me thirty years,I would've told you”
“well then why can't I go?” Dale huffed loudly and left,a few seconds later,he returned, grabbing another beer out of the cooler and stomping off again, shouting “I'm going! And return with the body of their leader!!”
Hank shook his head “how're we gonna keep him from getting into Canada?”
Boomhaur piped up,looking over “Dang ol' talking 'bout the news, man, they talking about immigration, dang ol' autism,Canada won't let 'em in”
“Boomhauer...I don't understand half of anything you say, but,I think I get the jist...maybe we can get Dale a diagnosis and then they won't let him in”
A few days later and Dale and Hank were sitting in their office,Dale excitedly talking about meeting the guy who caught Bigfoot,Hank busy worrying about how Dale was gonna try and escape when he realized he was here for an evaluation. Soon enough, the doctor called his name and Dale and Hank got up,they went into a back room and Hank quickly shut the door as Dale realized this was a doctors office.
“no! No! I am not going to sit here with a doctor! They'll just steal my urine! Or my hair! Well..what's left of it!”
Hank sighed, shoving Dale down on the couch “no,no,no,sit, they're not going to take anything. They'll just ask questions, alright?”
Dale reluctantly allowed himself to be shoved onto the uncomfortable couch “alright, alright…fine,I'll answer this guy's questions…but if I think he's a spy,I'm taking him down…shi-shi-sha!” Dale grinned a little, doing a karate chop in the air to punctate his sentence.
“Dale, you are not attacking the doctor.” Hank groaned, reaching over to smack his hand out of the air “attack him and you'll lose your hat.” Dale nodded quickly, reaching up to keep his hands over his hat tightly as the doctor walked in.
“Hi there, boys,I'm Dr.didntwannathinkofaname, good to see you two today. Now,Hank, you've sent in a large…uh,fax of some.. interesting stories about Mr.Gribble here.”
Dale immediately looked over at Hank, horrified “you told him things about me?! What if he's with the government?!”
Hank sighed “I'm sorry about him,Dr.didntwannathinkofaname,he's uh…very into conspiracy theories.”
“yes…I can see that…has this been a lifelong interest of yours,Dale?” Hank and Dale both nod a little. “Alright, thank you..if you two don't mind,I'd like to talk to you both separately. Dale,I'm gonna have you go with my assistant to take a few tests to see how you do. Just some facial recognition tests, memory tests. We just need to see how you play, behave and communicate with your peers.” Dale nods a little and gets up,leaving with the doctor's assistant.
Hank's POV
“Dale's always been…special. When we were kids,he didn't talk until he was about six…he just growled at everyone.” Hank rubbed the back of his neck, chuckling awkwardly “Then there's the fact he's never been good with people. He never really got invited to play with us in first grade,he just sorta…started playing with us,not that we minded, but, after he started being friends with us,he would just run away from other kids.”
The doctor took notes as Hank spoke “and..who is 'we'?”
“Bill,Boomhauer and I. We've all been friends since first grade. We all still talk. Hyup, every evening in the alley, have a drink, unwind. Heh,we used to spend about a half hour before the streetlights came on,sitting on the sidewalk by my house and have some rootbeer” Hank nodded, smiling softly at the memory of when they'd all become friends.
“You four have had the same friend group for…nearly thirty years? And you have a very…similar schedule to when you were kids? That's…very interesting. Mr.Hill, how do you think you and Dale would react if you weren't in the alley in the evening”
“Well,it just throws our whole schedule off. Dale can hardly do anything until the next time we're all in the alley, his brain just turns to mush..and,well,I'd be lying if I said it doesn't mess with my mind too” Hank nodded a little.
“I see..” the doctor kept writing as Hank spoke. He asked a few more questions, listening to Hank ramble on about Dale as a kid and of course, after those stories,Hank talked to the doctor about propane.
Dales POV
The assistant led Dale into a room connected to the doctors office and pulled out a book with pictures in it,some book about frogs and…some games,by the looks of them.
“Alright,Dale. I'm going to have you identify some facial expressions, then you'll read a book to me,we'll do a memory test and then I'd like to know about some of your interests and hobbies that sound good to you?” the assistant looked at him, smiling softly.
“No…but,Hank said he'd take me to get ice cream if I was well behaved…so,let's do this,I guess” Dale nodded, sitting up a little.
“Great, alright, can you…tell me what this woman is feeling,Dale?” she asked, opening the book of photos.
Dale stared at the woman intently, studying her face “she's not feeling anything, she's obviously a robot, duh. You can see where her fake skin stops, right there under her tank top strap, probably didn't put any 'skin' under her clothes to save the government a few pennies”
“Alright then, enough of the facial recognition test for now. Why don't you read me this book and then tell me about it?” The assistant handed Dale a book about flying frogs, which,of course, sent Dale on a rant about alien frogs and all the politicians they're controlling. The assistant nodded, writing everything down as Dale spoke. “Alright, that's very interesting,Dale,I'll make sure to fact check Mitch McConnell the next time he talks. I'm gonna have you do a math sheet for me,please show your work,it's very important.” Dale nodded and filled out the sheet, breaking the numbers down to add them.
“Alright,I'm finished..” Dale nodded, handing the math sheet back “is that memory test next?” The assistant nodded, setting the test up and having Dale go through it.
“I'm very impressed with your memory,Dale, you have a very good memory” The assistant smiled and took some notes. “Okay,I'm gonna send you back to the doctor and he'll give you the diagnosis. Dale nodded and went back into the room with Hank and the doctor. The doctor went over everything.
“alright,Dale,Hank, here's a packet of both of your diagnoses'” the doctor nodded a little.
Hank took the packets “mine..too?”
“Well,I can't give any official opinion on you, but,it is my recommendation that you come back for an evaluation of your own,Mr.Hill.”
“Haha,your plan backfired,Hank” Dale grinned,looking at him.
“Hwell, not really,Dale, this isn't an official diagnosis, yours is. You can't go to canada” Hank grinned as Dale's face fell, realizing Hank was right.
“you traitor. You're temporarily suspended from being my emergency contact.” Dale mumbled as he got up and left with Hank.
