I FUCKING LOVE MISERABLE JERKASS MALE CHARACTERS WHO TURN THEIR LIVES AND SITUATIONS AROUND AND BECOME MORE THAN WHAT THEY EVER THOUGHT THEY COULD BE AND WHAT SOCIETY MADE THEM INTO THROUGH THE SOFTENING OF THEIR TOXIC MASCULINITY AND EMBRACING THE SUPPORT OF THEIR FRIENDS AND FAMILY AS A STRENGTH RATHER THAN A WEAKNESS
GOTTA BE ONE OF MY FAVORITE GENDERS FR FR

Just re-watched some eps in s4 and I know it's all been said before but I'll say it again. My favorite thing about one Evan Buckley? His anger. He has so much pure, burning anger in him. This man is not just a "hothead," he has some mfing demons. The scene when he blows up at his parents? All of his flashbacks in Buck Begins, especially when he crashes his motorcycle? Up until season 4 we just see Buck as this idealistic, kind of ignorant and gullible, boneheaded frat bro with somewhat good intentions. But Buck has been egregiously hurt throughout his life. Also he's enormous. He could be a really mean dude. He could be rough and aggressive and violent and spiteful.
But he isn't.
We are all paradoxical but damn do I love the flavor of paradox that is Buck.
And I know we all like to bemoan Buck's screen time and his storylines but tbh he did start the show in such a place (age, demeanor, kind of an impressionable blank slate) that afforded him an advantageous position. And nothing is perfect but like, his story kind of slaps though. And season 4 cracks him open in such a fantastic way and I honestly wish they would explore the internal struggle of that more. I mean, what would it take for him to snap? How much does he have to battle those demons? Was he always like this or how did he learn to quiet his anger? Show me THIS. The entire lightning strike arc was a big ass flop to me sorry.
Anyway, long story short, the best part about Buck is that he isn't this pure uwu baby that needs to be taken care of and coddled, and I won't let the growing faction of Buck stans who just get hard-ons for pouty white boys, and who have clearly never watched the source material, permanently defile his character. He has some serious darkness in him, and he could have so easily turned out different. Buck is the master of facades no matter how mature he becomes. Choosing kindness and goodness is always more work than the other way around. And that's why Evan Buckley will always have a special place in my heart. Thank you for coming to my ted talk.

i'm always a sucker for the take that Ford does love kids, he's just not the best caretaker. i mean, he's immediately delighted to learn he's an uncle in tale of two stans, and he loves spending time with Dipper and Mabel, he's just kind of dense.
i think aus where he gets to be a dad with Fiddleford are so cute. and so interesting to see how he'd handle it. people always seem to forget what a softie he can be
Oh yes! It kind of bugs me how a lot of people act like Ford is cold when he really isn't. There are lots of little examples of him being an absolute sweetheart. He talks a big game about being logical and suppressing fear etc, but he's a deeply emotional person, and that comes through in his more personal journal entries. He's not some heartless robot. He loves sharing his joy and excitement with the people close to him. He craves human connection even though he's bad at it. He gets attached to weird little creatures like Shifty, he loves his niece and nephew and is genuinely happy to meet them. Not to mention Ford loves weirdness and creativity and kids are the weirdest most creative demographic of people out there.
I don't think Ford dislikes kids at all. I think his lack of emotional intelligence and tendency to be lost in his own world makes him a questionable caretaker. Not through apathy or malice, he's just kind of bad with kids. Making him a father is really interesting for this reason because I'm confident he'd love the shit out of his kids, but learning how to respond appropriately to their needs, keep them safe, and pay attention consistently when needed, would all be things he'd struggle with.
Ford also says as much in his journal that he didn't want to settle down and "start a family". I don't think he ever saw kids of his own as part of his future nor do I think he'd ever consciously choose to have them. That said these are the words of a young Ford with grand ambitions that children would have potentially gotten in the way of. I also think the way he shuts down the idea of "starting a family" is a response to the social pressure to get straight married which is also not something he would have wanted. I mean look how well that worked out for Fidds :/
But Ford's whole character arc is about humbling himself. Learning to let go of this fantasy of some grand destiny and find joy in just living life with the people he cares about. He learns to accept the love of others and to love himself without needing to prove anything.
Pictured above, is a combination of sleep deprivation and those little moments when you're a new parent and it dawns on you yet again that suddenly you have this tiny little human who's who world depends on you. That mix of fear and awe and overwhelming love that hits you in waves and turns your brain into mush for a moment.
Nik and Newt force Ford to put someone else over himself, forcing him to reassess his priorities much sooner.
Also I know this one wasn't really an ask but I really wanted to draw something for you because it was soooooo good seeing a real ask in my inbox. I would absolutely love to answer any asks people have about this AU. I'd love to draw more of Ford, Fidds, Stan, and the twins but it gets hard to decide what to draw with so many ideas in my brain. By all means, send me asks or suggestions for drawings and I'll do my best to respond to all of them.

Hi PrettyinPwn! So, I wanted to ask you something, because I'm honestly lost and confused. Like, I know it's a dumb question, you don't even have to answer this ask if you don't want to, but could you help me understand the difference between Stan and Ford wanting to sail in the Stan o' War in the past and Stan and Ford sailing in the Stan-o'-War II in the present? One of the themes of Gravity Falls is about learning to let go and accept change and I want to know how it fits in this theme. At first I thought that they sailing in Stan-o'-War II in the present was a attempt of bring past to present by living a dream that is rooted in the past, which gives them an element of their past to hold on to and thus they can keep a part of their past in the present. But since the Pines learned to let go and accept change in the end of the show, I know that can't be that.
No, don't call it a dumb question; I think this is actually a great question to ask about the narrative (and one I've personally struggled with how to view myself).
You're 100% correct. It's odd that the narrative theme is about change and accepting it, yet the conclusion to the Stans' story is about returning to the past AKA holding onto the past.
When I think about it, this feels like a point where other themes and character arcs overrode or blend with this theme. Namely, the theme of healing family rifts, forgiveness, the conclusion of Stan and Ford's character arcs, and the beauty of the parallelism/juxtaposition of their story with Dipper and Mabel's.
As it pertains to Stan and Ford's character arcs, they had their own personal lessons to learn. Stan's was learning inherent worth and forgiving of self, in my opinion. Ford's was finding true acceptance/love for who he is (and by "true" I mean the honest kind that people like Stan and Fiddleford offered him that acknowledged his flaws but liked him anyway AKA selfless acceptance, not the selfish kind from people that just wanted to use him AKA Bill and his father to an extent).
So taking those two arc lessons, look at what Ford and Stan offer each other in the end: Ford asking Stan to go on an adventure with him is him subtly saying, "I forgive you and you have worth", and Stan accepting was him subtly saying, "I also forgive you and I still love/accept you". It's a return to the way they saw each other as kids. A key element here, too, is what Stan says to Ford when he first suggests the Stan-O-War idea when they're kids:
Ford is made fun of. Stan defends him from the bullies. And Ford says this (and from a writing standpoint, this is the part where the character states his need/want):
"But I am a freak. I just wonder if there's anywhere in the world where weirdos like me fit in."
And this is Stan's reply:
"Hey, chin up, buddy. Look. (He and Ford look at the sea) One of these days, you and me are gonna sail away from this dumb town. We'll hunt for treasure, get all the girls, and be an unstoppable team of adventurers."
If we break this down, it's basically Ford saying "I feel unaccepted and like an outcast" AKA his character wound and Stan saying "I accept you, you fit in with me, and I'll always stick with you".
So when they end up adventuring together at the end, it's them getting their character need. They're both the balm to each other's character wounds. That, and another thesis of Gravity Falls is that a Pines twin alone is their worst self, but together, they're at their best. I explored this in my post about Mabel's writing, but I think that's why Hirsch and crew wrote both sets of twins sticking together in the end.
A metaphor the fandom likes to use a lot with the Stans is D&D stats: Ford is high intelligence but abysmal wisdom, and Stan is high wisdom but lower intelligence. So alone... well, we saw it for ourselves. Ford alone is taken advantage of, isolated, lacking common sense, etc. Stan alone is depressed, a bit dumb (I say that affectionately but he wasn't good in school, we all know this), etc. Lo and behold: they have what the other doesn't, and their character arc resolution is realizing they need each other and have different strengths that help cover their own flaws.
So all in all, it's still the theme of change, because the Stans sticking together is a change from their status quo at that point (they'd been apart for decades). But it's the theme of change tempered with the value of still holding on to what matters. Like Dipper and Mabel: yeah, they're accepting change and the future, but they're also holding on to some things AKA each other. That's what the Stans failed to learn until they were older, what the niblings taught them, and what they rediscovered that they'd long lost.
So honestly, the theme of change really should be reworded to "accepting a good balance between the past and the future; you can't stop time, but you can still fondly hold onto parts of the past". Why? Because this theme in and of itself is a blend of both sets of twins: the future focus of Ford and Dipper wanting to follow their ambitions and grow up faster, and the past focus of Stan and Mabel wanting to cling on to the past and stop time (I mean, look at the metaphor of the perpetual motion machine and Stan breaking it; he wanted to stop time - a perpetual motion machine in real life - basically).
This new version of the theme reflects that both sides have a point, and both sides were slightly wrong: the narrative conclusion their characters help define is a blend of both arguments; compromise. And the Stan-O-War II is just that: holding onto the past as they sail into the future; compromise between the two viewpoints and characters.
I hope that answers your question! :D

This is why I like and defend My Hero Academia's Ending
youtube
We're in a new Iron Age. We have been for years now, maybe longer. Really, the idea of Marvel Zombies should've been enough to make us realize it. For whatever reason, comic books are always feeling like they need to constantly be one-upping how evil each new villain is, and it's just so damn depressing. This whole video is about Reed Richards turning into a villain who commits multiple genocides and tortures alternate versions of himself for potentially infinite amounts of time just out of ego. And if you think this is a problem limited to Marvel then I have three words for you: Dark Nights Metal. Aka "how can we make Bruce Wayne into a monster worse than the Joker seven different times?" Yeah, I'll admit that The Batman Who Laughs had a sick-ass design, but dear God, if I wanted that much grimdark hopelessness I'd be reading a Warhammer novel, not a friggin' Batman comic. Y'know, Batman, the guy who saw his parents die in front of him and devoted his entire life to making sure as many people as possible didn't have to suffer the same fate? The guy who took in a child he had no connection to and raised him as his own son solely because said child suffered that same fate and he(Batman) didn't want him to have to go through life without a family like he did? The guy who managed to, through endless heroics, gain a new family filled with people who he saved and who all truly love him? Where's that been? And what about his best friend, the guy who literally has a character that translates to "hope" on his chest? Sure ain't been much of that in superhero comics lately, has there?
This is the state of superhero comics. Infinity this, Crisis that, and it's always the end of the world but only in the grimdarkest of ways. HeroAca had an arc like that once. Where Japan was collapsing into anarchy, with hundreds, probably thousands of villains freed from prison and sent deliberately to roam the streets and harm as many people as possible, and the protag was forcing himself to fight them alone, running himself ragged and isolating himself from his friends "to protect them". And it ended with those friends hunting him down, chasing him, and manhandling him into a position where he was physically incapable of running away in order to inform him that no, actually, he will not be doing this alone. Why? Because they are here. And they always will be, no matter what, because that's what it means to be both a friend and a hero. HeroAca never, at any point, stopped having a message of hope. The ending of HeroAca is a final statement of that hope-the death knell to the initial problem of a quirkless society that certain people just can't ever become heroes. Sure, the tech was so expensive that, without the "end of the world" budget for All Might's suit it took them eight years to save up to get it made, but in a world of super science that'll change a whole lot faster than in our world. And heck, even in our world things like cars and tv's(they first popped up in the 30s) went from toys for the rich to staples of everyday life pretty darn quick. The ending of HeroAca isn't just that now Deku can become a hero, it's that now anyone can become a hero. The next Batman, Iron Man, Blue Beetle, Mister Terrific-there are endless possibilities, and in a society now transformed with a better understanding of heroics, the Syndrome problem normally stemming from everyone being super won't even show up. That's the kind of soul comics used to have, the kind they ought to have. Stories of endless darkness and torment aren't the kind of story that people like Jack Kirby, Stan Lee or Siegel and Schuster would have wanted to tell. They wanted to inspire people, to give them hope. And that's what HeroAca did, right up till the end.
#mha#bnha#my hero academia#boku no hero academia#hero academia#i'm not insulting anyone who enjoys the maker or modern comics#even if media is truly unredeemable(like the Cats movie) you can still enjoy it#also unrelated but I mentioned Syndrome and there's only one other character in fiction I've found who could actually have killed an idea#and it was Overhaul#If he'd been unleashed on hero society in tandem with AFO's plans he really could've killed the idea of heroes#and if Marvel or DC had had that idea they'd have made a comic where the halfway point was him actually doing that#and then they have to time travel or some shit to fix it

have you watched all the episodes yet? what are your thoughts?
I just finished all three episodes and lemme first say. I got netflix again for this premiere and netflix has ads now???? this is bullshit
now some thoughts:
THERE ARE SO MANY STORYLINES I'm being cautiously optimistic but I have no idea how they will tie up everything. also I think the reason there are so many montages and music videos in there is partially because the show went into production too late and they had too much shit to wrap up so we had to figure out cool ways to skip some exposition which. I appreciate when they just say fuck it, deduct it. and if I'm anybody in arcane universe it's actually that thick big titty bitch in bdsm gear in the art at the start of episode 2
everybody is extremely hot, caitlyn obviously, jinx is slaying every shot, ambessa and mel.... I shan't. but also it has to be said, caitlyn has a really hot dad like tobias is a beekeeping age
I'm getting my dues as a caitlyn stan and supporter, I mean I haven't seen the takes yet so she might be already fighting for her life but let me already say I don't give a fuck, I'll be defending her all month. she looks so good, she's eating her lil lines, she's so bitchy - when vi was like I watched them kill my parents do you know how that feels and caitlyn goes yeah I do LIKE SHE GAGGED US BOTH A LIL. the kiss was a massive slay, like absolutely delivered, I have no notes. IM SO EXCITED FOR HER AND AMBESSA TOGETHER if you see me on ao3 in those tags be fucking quiet. like not caitlyn accidentally becoming a dictator because a muscle mommy milf manipulated her, you don't understand she is such a wish fulfilment character for me. also she's slowly giving more and more princess bubblegum the more her villain arc starts
idk why piltover has the worst security than any other place, anybody could blow up piltover. WHEN THAT GUY TACKLED MELS ASSASSIN AFTER HE ALREADY TOOK THE SHOT SJSJJSJSK
vis action scenes eat so hard I know many annoying men will main her because for some reason gamers kind of love butches. I wonder if caitvi is slowly becoming that choice for lesbian edaters like the other two that think are this in league are leona and diana amd also weirdly evelynn and ahri
ambessa is incheresting, like she hasn't revealed much of her motivations beyond trying to seize power and not die but I love the scheming and scamming that the women are committing right now. also she made my wimb tremble many times, just like mel, congratulations to the whole family. the design for black rose fucking eatssssss and overall this is such a game of thrones ass storyline without the excessive sexual assault. like ambessa is such tywin, caitlyn is her arya
that silco montage was giving a bit greys anatomy carousel montages but the animation was beautiful, the melodrama was high, the way you can feel her die inside also peak
I'm like still figuring out how i feel about jinx this season, like she's slaying every scene, she's a diva but idk how I feel about the kid yet. jinx and sevika go crazy together, they ate thaaaat. she's kind of calm as fuck but I think with how suicidal she is it makes sense because it's like she's already given up, she made her peace and is finishing her business before she dies so it's this very eery calm. I kind of fuck with it, I think that's an interesting base but I can't figure out what exactly her storyline will be yet.
and the vi and jinx fight was soooooo. I cant lie when vi was like I didn't think my sister would be orphaning kids and jinx fucking went done it to myself enough, like i cackled. and then I SCREACHED when she said I know you're sweet on her, shut uppp caitvi fandom is so annoying I forgot I love them sm, like lesbians we always win idc
AND THE END PART OH MY GOOOD WHEN JINX GETS HER FINGER SHOT OFF AND SPITS OUT BAD BITCH LINES I WAS LIVING AND SHAKING and then the fucking kid had to get in there. I'm sorry that pissed me off if I was caitlyn I would also take the shot. I'd rather vi ended the moment in someeee way or even if caitlyn took a shot anyway. idk it's just episode 3 I'll see how it goes
overall I think zaun storyline is such a mess but it's so weird fantasy steampunk vibe I kind of love it. viktor girls... I see your vision now I almost fell in love at least once when he started looking like a nuclear waste rat

one piece characters that give off bisexual energy part one!
( GIF is not mine, it belongs to @snippychicke and neither is One Piece or its characters mine in any way! )
Kuro/Klahadore
Arc: Syrup Village, East Blue, Vols. 3-5, Chapters 23-44
Headcanon: Kuro is bisexual biromantic, but I can also see him being sapiosexual too.
Thie Machiavellian butler himself serves both tea and cunt as the first contender in this series! Kuro was always interesting to me as a twelve-year-old reading One Piece for the first time. He was definitely a highlight when I was uncertain about the story as a whole. ( Keep in mind One Piece was the first manga and anime I fell in love with, after my grandparents had bought me the first volume from a flea market when we were visiting them on summer vacation. ) I've seen lots of people put him down as an antagonist for being a walking trope, lazily written, or just plain boring. I don't get it myself and I'll always be a Kuro stan. You couldn't have had a layered baddie such as Doflamingo or Orochi in such an early part of the story. It wouldn't have fit the tone. While there are some irksome qualities to Kuro and his motivations, I won't hop on that hate train saying he is somehow a terrible villain. Kuro was classy, snobbish, wicked smart, a scheming bad boy who I always pictured as belonging in Buckingham Palace laying out silverware for the royal family. Can I just say how fucking mental I went when they made his actor in the Netflix series English? I've always had a thing for villains, and he was no exception to me as a middle-schooler. I've had a plot bunny for a small one-shot involving Kuro as the main character; before he betrayed Kaya, just about his daily routine as a butler. I find anything to do with butlers to be absolutely fascinating-- I'm showing my autism and ADHD here. In it I wanted to write Kuro as being explicitly bisexual. I can't really explain why I get a gay aura off of him. Perhaps it's queer coding, a subconscious recognition or gaydar, or just me being ridiculous. I really got it when I reread East Blue again recently, and after I saw the live-action. The latter had a HUGE part in forming my opinion on Kuro being bi. This is more me joking, but can we agree being a cat person is inherently queer? I think either he's really overkill with the whole black cat theme, or there's something else going on. I also want to add I'm firmly convinced he'd be sapiosexual too. This is a man who prioritizes intelligence as a both strength and virtue. You can't tell me he wouldn't be looking for smarts as the defining trait in a significant other; somebody to match his own wit. Some characters I've chosen for these headcanons won't fit into one easy box, which is true to life as we don't all think, love, or view things the same way. I want to make sure I'm showing representation and diversity to our beautiful community, no matter how we identify.
So yes, Kuro/Klahadore is bisexual biromantic and sapiosexual in my mind! I should quickly write as an aside that I won't be going in any particular order with these posts. So, we'll be jumping across arcs to all kinds of characters. With that, thank you all for reading this, please let me know what you think! I'd love to hear your thoughts. Have a fantastic rest of your weekend and take it easy!

Who am I, and why I'll always show where Nuala is mentioned?
So hello guys.
I came to the realization that a lot of people on Tumblr do not know me, and I came kind of suddenly to you guys. So, allow me to tell you who I am and why I hope to become a big part of your "Sandman" experience. I will attach some pictures for references 🩷🪷
My name is Li. My main platform is Twitter. Most of my friends are there too. I hope I can make a lot of mutuals here, too. I came across "The Sandman" one year ago. Now, the Sandman is a wonderful piece of media for people to explore a plethora of dynamics they enjoy. For me, it was a bit of an adjustment.
Before reading the comic, I tried to stan Dreamling. However, for me personally, I very rarely enjoy dynamics with no women in them. That is, of course, me personally. I am not the one who should tell people what they should enjoy. Bi/Pan WLM and WLW, those are dynamics I truly enjoy. However, at the time, I was trying to fit in with what was popular. Truly, it didn't make me very happy because I just don't see it the way Dreamling shippers see it.
So I tried changing my angle. I tried to get into Calliope and Morpheus (I apologise, I do not know if they have their own little ship name). This one fitter me a bit better. However, I have personal issues with the concept of divorce, and I could never quite brush aside the fact that at the end... they were divorced. I even made a Calliope cosplay at the time and met Tom (loveliest person on Earth).
(I envisioned this ballerina Calliope cosplay, and for the most part, I made it work. This was my VERY first attempt at anything.)
He kind of convinced me to just read through the comics. And I did. And it all really fell into place. And Nuala of the Faerie became my spark. I want to make it clear that I love Nuala so much more and so BEYOND Sandflower. She is just so exceptional, so complex. I became SO excited to explore what the Internet could offer on her only to get...nothing. Absolutely nothing. Whatever little official art there was (three-five drawings and it was usually not even Nuala centered, she was just there) and two three pen drawings on DivienArt made in 2010.
Now, one thing about me is that I am persistent as all hell. And it is completely out of line that Thessaly is a "main character," but Nuala isn't. So, in January, I had a very "If no one is going to do it, I will" moment. I began talking about her every day. Analysing, sharing panels, commissioning artists (uni student making commissions, I was kinda of crazy for that one. I made one commission once and then had 20 bucks left for the week to buy food) and every minute since January until today, I do it all for her. Because she deserves to be recognized. Nuala is no less than Lucien/ne or the Corinthian. I have an ask sitting in my inbox that I simply don't know how to answer:
"Why do you think "x" is more popular than Nuala?"
I do not know, to be honest. Frankly, I also try not to care. Because my love for Nuala is not based on bringing other characters of the Sandman down. I do this to uplift her to a status where one day, I won't be the only person on the Nuala tag (I was SO happy the other day when like five new people had made art, SO happy) and not the only one on the Sandflower tag (that is ONLY me for now). And until then, I will be the only one. It's okay. And when I no longer have to be, I will sit back and enjoy the fruits of my hard work.
This may appear very self-centered to those who do not know me, but those who do will tell you I work day and night for her. I have a 70k Sandflower fic, 50k of which is only its first arc, just sitting in my google Docs. I have sketches upon sketches. I talk with artists about more commissions and how to make it so she gets a new outreach. I have conversations and try to introduce her to as many people as possible until they notice her and care for her at least a fraction of how much I do. She inspired me to try sewing and really get to cosplay a SOLID version of her (still working on that).
(I sewed most of the outfit and and it was my second attempt to do anything from scratch. I'll get better at it 🪷🌿🩷)
I like to think she would love it. She only ever longed to be loved. And I love my girl.
So much. We help each other every day. We exist together. And when her actress joins our little triangle, we will make the perfect fairy. The perfect personification of womanhood the way I see it.
My Nuala (Lala, Lali, Lalita, flower, the pearl, sun, if I missed any of my moots nicknames for her, hit me up).
So that's it, dear Tumblr. I am afraid you won't be able to mention Nuala of the Faerie without me because somewhere in May, we started co-existing.
And we are not going anywhere.
Love,
Li and Nuala 🪷🌿🩷

RWDE and the Very Nonsensical, Half-Assed, Deeply-Telling "Poll"~
So something that's popped up in the RWDE crowd was a poll for the "Worst RWBY Choices". At first glance, you can tell this is a trainwreck because of how they've formatted the "tournament" itself:
As you see, you arbitrarily have certain entries that get a head-start without winning lower tiers, random numbers of match-ups...I feel like any rational person would say, "You can't do a tournament layout with 26 options" but RWDE are not rational people. (But as you'll see, the majority of these are RWDE scraping desperately for any excuse to hate anything from the show.)
Now, what are these "options" for what this RWDE blog sees as the worst writing choices in RWBY? To summarize in advance, they're very telling of the way RWDE looks at not only stories that do anything they don't like, but stories that dare to have women be heroes or have women love each other or anything like that.
A. Jaune. Just Jaune.
The RWDE hate for Jaune is almost confusing, given the way RWDE blogs desperately want white men to be the real heroes of the story. But then you recognize that the white/light-skinned men they stan for all possess toxic-masculinity qualities, whereas Jaune's character development is about him growing out of said qualities. In short, Jaune is a rejection of the kind of character they want RWBY to actually be about.
That, and he's voiced by one of the writers (at the request of the creator they claim to respect so much) so attacking the character lets them feel like they're being personally abusive to the writer himself.
B. The rushed nature of Weiss's racism redemption arc.
This is probably the closest I've ever seen RWDE get to proper "criticism", but even then, I can understand the writers wanting to get past the early "Weiss is a jerk" characterization that a lot of the early plot threads revolved around.
C. Demonization of the Faunus rights' movement. (This includes everything about the White Fang.)
Oh, here comes the "big" one.
RWBY's stance is that fighting for equality is a good thing, with that fight for equality being supported by its protagonists and continued by many members of what was once the White Fang. Its only objection is the use of extremist and terrorist tactics that the White Fang adopted—and even then, those who genuinely believe in the cause are portrayed as sympathetic and respected by other characters.
The only character "demonized" are those who do not believe in the White Fang's cause, most prominently Adam Taurus—a man who murdered senselessly, happily threw away his soldiers' lives, took part in a terrorist attack at the behest of human villains, attempted to murder respected Faunus leaders, and attempted to murder dozens of Faunus out of spite for his plans at Haven being foiled.
The reason why RWDE is unable to dissociate the story's portrayal of Adam with that of the White Fang is because they wanted Adam, a white man, to be the real hero of the storyline. Because he is a white man. To the point that they erase, minimize, or lie about the women of colour whom he takes advantage of or even murders.
So tl;dr, the Faunus rights' movement is always treated as a good thing, the White Fang are questioned for their extremism but acknowledged as fighting for a good cause, and Adam Taurus is the only fucko the story "demonizes". Which RWDE fuckos demonize, because they wanted a white guy to be the hero of a story about racism.
D. Killing Pyrrha.
This is the first of what I'll call "zero-argument complaints", in that the poll gives zero rationale as to why the writing choice it's complaining about was a bad writing choice.
The reason, of course, being that RWDE cannot make that argument. It is entirely about complaining about the story being anything except what these people wanted it to be. So let's start a count for that:
Zero-Argument Complaints: 1
E. Only mentioning Pyrrha's death in regard to Jaune's grief.
This is completely false, as Ruby is shown to have been affected by Pyrrha's death, and in fact has the first reaction to Pyrrha's death, that being the awakening of her Silver Eyes.
In fact, the image the poll uses is that of Jaune training to Pyrrha's video, a scene that is preceded by Ruby being woken up by nightmares about Pyrrha...thus literally invalidating their own "complaint" in an instant.
F. Lack of Ilia after Vol. 5.
RWDE often complains about "cast bloat", which in reality is about how minor characters exist in the story and the story doesn't bring back the same handful of characters in every setting.
Even ignoring their idiocy on minor characters, this isn't even true. Ilia appears at the start of Volume 6, and during the transmission in Volume 8—in fact, her scene shows her receiving a call from Ghira, implying future significance for her.
G. Cinder/Neo villain pair.
Zero-Argument Complaints: 2
H. Salem's backstory.
Zero-Argument Complaints: 3
I. Using Oscar punching bag.
RWDE is bizarrely indignant about Oscar suffering physical harm in an action show, despite the fact that a major theme of his character is how he's dragged into this conflict without a choice, in contrast to the protagonists and their allies.
But really, it's about treating it as so terrible and unfair to have a male character harmed in any way.
J. Making jokes about Yang's disability/prosthetic.
Humour is a coping mechanism for many, and when humour is made regarding Yang's prosthesis, she is almost always the initiator of that humour, the one making the jokes—and the jokes are never at her expense. It's her way of lightening a situation—and coming to acceptance with what happened to her.
This "complaint" belies both a lack of empathy for people with disabilities who partake in similar humour...and let's be frank, RWDE solely wants Yang to angst about her disability, for the edgy.
K. Not addressing Adam's "SDC" scar.
The show very much addressed it, in a way that perfectly summarized Adam's character. He was someone who had been victimized, and could have fought against those who hurt him and his people...but instead, he used his scar in an attempt to gaslight Blake. He cared more about hurting those who had hurt him than Faunus rights.
L. RWBY & Co.'s fight with Cordovin.
Zero-Argument Complaint: 4
M. Weiss's lack of relevancy after Vol.5(ish).
Weiss plays a significant part in the Atlas arc, reconnecting with her family and exposing her father's criminality. She also understands Ruby's grief more in Volume 9, due to her own sorrow over the fall of Atlas. So Weiss maintains clear relevancy.
N. Blake losing personality, autonomy, & motivation after Vol.6.
Yeah, let's not mince words on what this is really about. It's about RWDE being pissed off over her relationship with Yang following the end of Volume 6 that they don't see anything to her character except for that, and thus claim that's all that exists to her character.
O. Decline of Ruby and Yang's sister relationship.
Ruby and Yang continue to show their sisterly relationship in various ways, whether it be Ruby encouraging Yang when Yang believed she was dead or Yang stepping in to be big-sister during Ruby's outburst. This is purely about trying to vilify Yang for, again, having a relationship with Blake—not to mention the idea of treating a woman as obligated to be her little sister's caretaker, a misogynistic attitude towards both Ruby and Yang.
P. Forgetting about the Faunus rights' movement after Vol. 6.
Largely yes, because the White Fang storyline was concluded with the end of Volume 5. Faunus rights are still touched upon during the Atlas arc, due to discrimination from the Atlas elite. So no, it isn't forgotten about at all.
Q. Lack of Sun after Vol. 5 & erasing his relationship development with Blake.
And to no one's surprise, "woman not belonging to man" and "man not being main character" show up on the list.
And needless to say, their relationship received development—it just wasn't "Blake gives herself to a man who doesn't respect her wishes", so RWDE thinks she's a bitch for that.
R. Ironwood's villain turn. (And all the ableism along the way!)
Ah yes, the time RWDE decided a military authoritarian was entitled to leave all of the poor and disadvantaged people of his kingdom to die and that four women were horrible people for not enabling him or obeying his every action, and trying to use disability as a shield for his actions (thus blatantly dehumanizing disabled people themselves).
Also, for all their insistence of "ableism", many RWDE blogs genuinely believe that a disabled woman should have had her disability aids taken away or shut off to punish her for disobeying a man. Really.
S. Queercoding Qrow & Clover's relationship before killing Clover.
Qrow and Clover were never implied or stated to have romantic feelings in any way. None of their interactions were romantic in any way. Yet RWDE insists there was totes queerbait going on, despite insisting Blake and Yang openly flirting and embracing meant nothing. (And yes, Bumbleby is claimed as "queerbait" on this list later on.)
T. Penny "becoming a real girl" at the end of Vol. 8.
Zero-Argument Complaint: 5
U. Penny's second death in the Vol. 8 finale.
Zero-Argument Complaint: 6
V. Jaune coming to the Ever After alongside RWBY & Neo.
Zero-Argument Complaint: 7
W. The existence & execution Ever After
Zero-Argument Complaint: 8 (and yes, it is really worded like that in the initial list)
X. Queerbaiting Bumbleby from Volumes 6 to 9 only to make it canon in a very awkward part of the story.
So...it wasn't queerbait, then?
And of course, this is about indignance at two women being allowed to have a canon romance between themselves. Not to mention, the Bumbleby kiss served as significant plot levity, during a time when Ruby's arc continued to darken. We all knew the light at the end of the tunnel was there; the kiss served as a shining beacon midway-through.
Y. Ruby's suicide attempt being framed as a necessary step in her growth in Vol. 9.
Not whatsoever; in fact, the story makes clear that having attempted suicide did not help Ruby whatsoever. She's still hurting and burdened during her time with the Blacksmith, and it is the Blacksmith's support and encouragement—akin to therapy—that serves as the actual catalyst to Ruby's recovery.
Z. Ruby, instead of properly acknowledging her mistakes and changing, learning to “be herself” post-ascension.
And of course, we conclude with a RWDE blog being pissed off that our heroines aren't being vilified for abandoning thousands of people to die because a man wanted to, and blaming everything that happens on them and them alone.
And that's all of the entries on the RWDE poll-tournament. Most are just bitching about anything they can, others are just blatantly being pissed off at women and queer people, and others are indignation at men not being the only people who matter. Y'know, like your average RWDE post anyway.

oh my god tumblr is not a functional website and it ate my next two drafted asks so prepare to get tagged in textposts but @brambleberrycottage sent The Mentalist and/or Person of Interest for the fandom ask game:
✨ send me a fandom and i'll answer with the following!
for person of interest:
blorbo (favorite character, character I think about the most)
↣ very tough choice but i am gonna have to go with shaw for this one. my second choice probably would be reese tho- but i have to go by what ao3 tags i filter the most 😭
scrunkly (my “baby”, character that gives me cuteness aggression, character that is So Shaped)
↣ BEAR THE DOG.....OBVIOUSLY....... akjdhdjfhf but for real it is probably finch. finch rly is So Shaped to me. i do not want anything bad to happen to him Ever. Protect At All Costs
scrimblo bimblo (underrated/underappreciated fave)
↣ FUSCO. FUSCO IS SUCH AN UNDERRATED FAVE. theres like 10 fics out there about my man fusco and ive reread all of them 100 times aldjfkfhjfgjgj this man just shows up to work every day and tries his best and he gets dragged into some of the craziest world-altering conspiracies known to man and for what ??? he just wants to come home to his son every day. but he cares about people and his friends and the world his son grows up IN, and thats why he sticks by the others no matter what he gets put thru. also he is just very funny and relatable at times akdhdjfhf
glup shitto (obscure fave, character that can appear in the background for 0.2 seconds and I won’t shut up about it for a week)
↣ harper!!! very much obscure but she has a cute lil arc that feels Meaningful and has such a fun energy and she has such an ~ outcome ~ (i will not spoil in case anyone who has not seen this show is thinking of seeing it) and tbh i want to learn everything about her
poor little meow meow (“problematic”/unpopular/controversial/otherwise pathetic fave)
↣ elias. he is very problematic. very controversial. horrible villain crimelord etc etc. but isnt it interesting how this show plays with morality? how much nuance there is? how you slowly learn that finch is right- that there are no heroes or villains, just people doing the best they can??? elias is a terrible person that you would never want to meet in real life but hes MY terrible person you would never want to meet in real life.
horse plinko (character I would torment for fun, for whatever reason)
↣ this is reese hands down. sorry not sorry to the traumatized man but i do kind of enjoy you getting more traumatized
eeby deeby (character I would send to superhell)
↣ i guess john greer ???? im not sorry, forget everything i said about nuance hes a villain akdhfdjkfhfj he is the worst im joking but if i have to pick anyone its him
for the mentalist:
blorbo (favorite character, character I think about the most)
↣ its jane. of course its jane. what we have learned about me is i am always stanning traumatized over confident (often middle aged middle aged) men in problematic career paths with emotional issues 😭 its embarrassing how consistent i rly am tbh lmao. but HES SO INTERESTING. HES SO TRAGIC. HES SO MULTIFACETED. i could probably write 600 dissertations about him
scrunkly (my “baby”, character that gives me cuteness aggression, character that is So Shaped)
↣ lisbon is my girl i love her so much i will not take any notes on this she is MY five foot nothing cop with anger management issues and i WOULD die for her. shes probably my height irl but she is !!!! small. i love her
scrimblo bimblo (underrated/underappreciated fave)
↣ cho is so underrated !!!!! he is there from start to finish and he gets his own arcs and his own story and he's level-headed and in charge but he's not emotionless and he's not perfect, he's very good at what he does but he makes mistakes too and he's mature enough to own up to them. his realism and commitment is bracing and reliable and brings such a steady element to the show. couldnt do it without him!!
glup shitto (obscure fave, character that can appear in the background for 0.2 seconds and I won’t shut up about it for a week)
↣ she's really not even on screen for more than like 0.1 seconds of flashback but !!! ANGELA JANE. i know we don't get to know much in the way of cannonical characterization but i have read a lot of fics about her. i think the most influential has to be boy wonder, which is a wonderful how-angela-and-young-patrick-met fic unfortunately trapped on the horrible formatting of fanfiction dot net, but every time i think of angela i think of this fic and it very deeply informed my love for her character.
poor little meow meow (“problematic”/unpopular/controversial/otherwise pathetic fave)
↣ probably laroche. deeply weird man but he just wanted to go home to his little figurines and his fluffy dog. what more could he ask for. very creepy vibe but he did his job well and he came around in the end. i would love to know what sort of life made this man happen. i think about the iconic theater episode with him every day.
horse plinko (character I would torment for fun, for whatever reason)
↣ aaaaa once again its jane im so sorry sir i just find your trauma entertaining !!!!!
eeby deeby (character I would send to superhell)
↣ probably bertram because i just think he was way scarier than the sherriff sorry sljfkfjfjg
#star unasks#brambleberrycottage#so sorry i literally drafted my reply and tumblr said oopsie doopsie idk where that is !!!! and it disappeared lol#i love this website and how well it Works#the mentalist#person of interest#star.txt

10 fandoms / 10 characters / 10 tags
tagged by @virgo-dream and @seiya-starsniper, thank you! this took me a while... the way my hyperfixations work is, i'll completely devote myself to a piece of media for a time... then once i find something else i move on almost entirely lol. i of course still have a very soft spot for the shows/video games listed here (as well as my blorbos, such as they are) but the only fandom im currently active in is, of course, Sandman.
1: Levi Ackerman - Attack on Titan
I am in a love/hate relationship with AoT lmao (and some day i WILL finish the final season) but nothing, not even fandom war, will ever change my love for Levi. I'm obsessed with his backstory, how he came into the Survey Corps, and how it all sheds light on the decisions he makes and the tragedies he suffered through. I was fascinated by him since S1 and after the No Regrets manga came out, I was done for. He has been through so much and despite how cruel and unforgiving he seems, he actually has the biggest heart and-- guh I just love him. He deserves the world ;^;
2: Zuko - Avatar the Last Airbender
Truly was torn between Zuko or Katara... but I have always had mad respect for Zuko's redemption arc and how brilliantly it was written. I love how it takes a full season and a half for him to have this war within himself, that he makes the right decision but then regresses... before literally becoming sick with indecision and change. And then he finally proves his worth and becomes the most loyal friend and a perfect leader to rebuild a broken society. I'm a sucker for good character stories, and Zuko's arc in ATLA is my hands down favorite ever.
3: Roxas - Kingdom Hearts
God I just love tragic male characters, huh? lmao. This one is a no brainer to me. Roxas is the OG blorbo. I fell in love with him at the tender age of 17 and have never looked back. He is kind and loyal but also a feral gremlin. He is so goofy but sad and god dammit, I love his voice and his baby blue eyes. Also this line, "This could have been the other way around." *shakes fist* MY BOY!
4: Faye Valentine - Cowboy Bebop
We love complex characters in this house! Faye has all the traits of a character I usually wouldn't vibe with: she's arrogant (without much to back it up lol), lazy, and is susceptible to addictions. But oooh do I love a character who uses negative traits to hide how emotionally vulnerable they are. Faye appears strong, mean, and confident to a fault, but inside she craves companionship and is incredibly lonely (despite her lone wolf tendencies). Rewatching the show as an adult, I found Faye and I have a lot in common lol. She needs a hug.
5: Hob Gadling - The Sandman
Do I really need to say anything? lol I love that Hob is the fandom's plaything; molding and shaping him and writing him in all sorts of different ways... but I do adore his canon character. He is brash, stubborn, at times cruel and violent... but then immeasurably kind, loyal, and forgiving. He takes on immortality in unexpected ways. he thrives, he suffers, he works, he regresses, he makes mistakes, he learns from them, he changes... he is THE human experience.
6: Daenerys Targaryen - Game of Thrones
Robbed. Robbed. Absolutely robbed. The writers did Daenerys so dirty, I refuse to accept the final 3 seasons of GOT as canon lmao. (and here's another thing: I would totally accept her spiral into "madness" if it had been handled seriously. If the writers didn't just pull this out of their ass and instead thoughtfully worked in justifiable reasoning for her to go crazy). I'm 100% a stan and there's actually nothing you can say that will change my mind :)
7: Cal Kestis - Star Wars, Jedi: Fallen Order
My SON. My BOY! I have the adoption papers ready.
8: Tifa Lockhart - Final Fantasy VII
Another OG blorbo lmao. She's been with me since I was a teenager (also I always shipped her with Cloud, not Aerith. I do however ship Aerith and Zack... the latter whom almost made this list. Anyway-). Tifa is the badass motherfucker with a heart of gold. She is insanely loyal and truly the wisest of the bunch.
9: Mickey Milkovich - Shameless
ANOTHER BROKEN CHARACTER WHO GOES THROUGH EXTREME DEVELOPMENT? Can anyone sense a pattern?? This motherfuckerrrr *shakes Mikey and slaps him in the face and sobs* God I love it when a seemingly irredeemable character goes THROUGH IT and comes out shining a new, yet somehow the same old, sarcastic bitch.
(Also please note that Lip Gallagher almost made this list. Another shining example of the writers doing his character the WORST injustice just to keep him on the show. He should have stayed in college. He almost GOT OUT. He almost broke the chain. What he did was not in line with his character and I will stay mad about it).
10: Cesare Borgia - The Borgias
THIS. GUY! AURGH!! Arrogant, violent, sexy bastard. You piece of shit. Cesare actually did everything wrong, he doesn't want to be redeemed. But he is so fucking charismatic and I love that he uses it to his advantage. He's so fucking smart and quick on his feet. He's SUCH an asset on the battlefield. And he LOVES his family! He will kill a bitch with his bare hands if they dare insult his mother or sister. I love that he grumbles when given advice from literally anyone that isn't his most trusted friend, bodyguard, and assassin, Micheletto. Doesn't even flinch when he discovers Micheletto is gay, actually teases him for being a momma's boy, and genuinely grieves for his loss when he flees. He says out loud how he misses him and actually begins to doubt himself without Micheletto there to counsel him. Cesare is everything to me, actually.
tagging, no pressure!: @rainy-days-and-nights @the-cloudy-dreamer @kemurai6-dominion-of-dust @ferelden-loser @teejaystumbles @tj-dragonblade @hardly-an-escape @sutoribenda @quillingwords @mathomhouse-e
#woo okay#this was kind of difficult because i usually always have multiple blorbos per show lol#choosing only one from each was a struggle haha#thank you guys!#tag game

not to salt openly on main or anything but instead of playing up a grown adult man's ineptitude to the point where he doesn't even know how to search for the nearest children's hospital on google or recognize food in the refrigerator, they could have instead utilized the part where he tries to give miri cold medicine for adults as a visual metaphor for the fact that she has completely different needs from the two of them; it's all fine and well to be miri's video game buddy until the moment where you have to step up to be the adult in the room, which... really should have been the crux of rei's character arc imo?
rei's stunted development has always been more of an emotional issue--sure, he doesn't take care of his body all that well either, but the real impact of his upbringing is that he doesn't know how to relate to others in a more responsible manner, because he's never been put in that position before. his deal is that he "doesn't know what love is", including self-love, and love here also encompasses the capacity to care properly for others. kazuki wasn't only doing the physical housework, but also bearing the brunt of the emotional work that goes into keeping a child on-schedule and out of danger, which rei had to deal with for the first time while alone with a sick miri. instead we get about a grand total of about 2 minutes of screentime on the kind of internal turmoil this caused him ("i can't do anything...") and exactly zero minutes on the effort that he had to expend in kazuki's absence while miri needed him--all we get is the final shot of him asleep that only implies some of the work. he's not even the one who presumably takes her to hospital! what was the point of having kazuki out of the picture on his little grief journey, if not to show us the development of rei in real time?! kazuki doesn't even come home to a clean house!!!
i think my irritation with ep 7 stems mostly from the inability of the writing to address the (usually very gendered) inequality of housework and emotional load distribution within a household in any cogent or meaningful fashion, instead using it as the vehicle to explore kazuki's backstory and cut in a few comical scenes of rei in distress instead of actually taking the issue as seriously as it could have. kazuki didn't just leave the house bc he was sick of daily life, he was grieving and being devalued in his household while a 4 year-old and a 25 year-old manchild roommate were constantly testing his patience. i was really, really looking forward to some kind of significant emotional reckoning on rei's part that we got to see onscreen, one that was more consistent with his character (he was NOT this helpless before, even in ep 1 before he met miri) and that would actually mean a little more for the plot than.... honestly whatever we got in ep 7.
also, just on a personal note, as a former (and sadly ongoing) rei stan, it's not very cute to watch a grown man flounder around his own fucking house not knowing how to call a cab or fry a single egg. it's not sexy. it doesn't serve. bring back the sexy rei suwa right now or i'll storm the fucking studio with a torch.
#rambles#buddy daddies#negative#sorry. this rant was sitting in my stomach like a stone so i had to excise it like a bezoar

@tygertygerfoggybright I'm going to do some more cherry-picking and answer your latest ask here.
First of all, I love that your sister is a Father stan. And your running commentary with her, that you've transcribed for me, is priceless! 😁
More below the cut.
It's safe to say that her preferring Paracelsus over Gabriel is a majority opinion in the fandom. But I agree with your take a few weeks back that Paracelsus was more Father's nemesis rather than Vincent's, and was simply using V as a tool against him. But she's right about Gabriel being "a little man." And as soon as V was face to face with him, he knew it too.
I'm not insulted at all that she's not a V girlie. For some, he's an acquired taste, for others, they never get the appeal. That just leaves more for the rest of us to enjoy.
Vincent and Diana and baby Jacob were the PERFECT ENDING. She watched it twice herself. Jacob gives, and I quote, “PURPOSE TO [Vincent’s]LIFE”-- she loves those types of characters, or any kind of family or platonic relationship/bond. :DDDD
Your sister is right. Jacob does give V a purpose to carry on. And the show was certainly laying the ground work for Diana to also become that for him.
I'm pretty sure we all started out as Cathy defenders - I certainly did. I didn't begin to question her choices and their impact on V's peace of mind until maybe a third of the way through S2. And that came as a result of many rewatches of certain episodes, when there was a little tickle in the back of my head telling me that all was not well and I needed to dig deeper.
Brb, we’re fighting over Paraclesus vs. Gabriel. Be right back.
She conceded (volunteered) that Gabriel was “an interesting arc, though.” “Gave a lot of plot drama.”
You two are cracking me up!
She made me die laughing suggesting he was Simba and John Pater was Uncle Scar (and though it’s not TECHNICALLY canon….)
🤣🤣🤣 Now I'm wondering if the folks at Disney did a bit of pilfering when working on The Lion King! This is perfect! 🤣🤣🤣
“Kick Joe” refers to every time someone came to him with info and tore it away or how he’s generally treated by everyone else around him, including life and us the audience.
Aw, poor Joe. He does get the short end of the stick a lot.
“I don’t think Vincent really has a raspy voice,” she interjects randomly, “I think he just sounds like what a lion would sound like.” I guess that’s a bad thing. “I LIKE HOW HE FLICKED HIS EYES,” she interjects again. I’ve been listening to her eye-flicking praise comments for days now. (“I’ve only said it three times,” she adds.)
Gotta agree with her on all of this. Perlman based the raspiness of the voice he used on his belief that Vincent's "normal" voice would always sound like it was on the edge of a growl, and that's why he was so soft-spoken most of the time. Just another way to set the people around at ease. But you could certainly hear it when he was angry. There's a set of videos from a con back in the day that features a Q & A with Perlman, Roy Dotrice, and Jay Acovone that's just delightful. All three of these guys are a blast to listen to and watch. Let me know if you're interested and I'll send you a link. Oh, and yes, V was an expert at the eye flick!
She’s curious if you’ve ever met the actors and what meeting them was like (she enjoyed reading-- on her own, mind-- about your talk with Roy); and if there were any fandom Winterfest stories you could relate?
I was lucky enough to meet Perlman at the same con as I met Roy, but the encounter only lasted a minute or two. He was meeting up with some of the actors at the con and just happened to spot Roy at the table with Nan and myself and stopped by for a minute. Lovely, lovely man. And big. Both physically and personality-wise. In exchange for mine and Nan's promise to not tell anyone that we'd seen him (his con appearance that night was unannounced and a surprise to everyone but the cast and con organizers) I got a hug in return. Still makes me grin like an idiot thinking about it, and it takes a lot to frazzle me. I also had a chance to meet and speak to Jay, David Greenlee (a precious cinnamon roll), Eddie Albert Jr. (sooo handsome in person, a real delight), David Swartz (a coordinating producer on the show - funny guy) and a few of the recurring, unnamed tunnel dwellers.
Every con that took place over the years always started with a Friday evening banquet, and was considered our Winterfest. Once everyone was seated, the lights were turned off and the Winterfest recitation began. Of course each table was decorated with candles enough for everyone seated, and eventually all the candles were lit and our celebration would begin by candlelight and with the room lights dimmed. I'll never forgot the goosebumps I got when Roy stood at the head of the cast table and began, "The world above us is cold and gray, summer a distant memory. Our world, too, has known its winters, so each year we begin this feast in darkness, as our world began in darkness."
Once the yearly cons ended, Winterfest began to take place online.
Notes: Buster remembered being abandoned as a baby-- would baby Jacob remember being suffocated by Gabriel? And what trauma would that bring (or what trauma did Vincent and the bond prevent?)
No, I don't think Jacob would remember that. I have to believe that V only remembered his abandonment because of what he is. Not only because of whatever species or hybrid of human being he is, but because of his enormous empathic abilities, which I believe Jacob shares, but not to the extent of his father's. And I don't know that their bond would've prevented any trauma, but it would certainly have been dampened the moment Vincent lifted him from the cradle and held him.
Okay, enough for now. I have a fic to work on. Tell your sister I enjoyed "meeting" her! 😊

A, F, K, U, and V for the ask :)
Thank you for the ask! :)
A - Ships that you currently like a lot. (They don’t have to be OTPs because not everyone has OTPs.) Friendships, pairings, threesomes, etc. are allowed.
I have one OTP the o stands for one and it's Teslen basically xD. Other than that? Eda/Raine from The Owl House and Crowley/Aziraphale from Good Omens (though they're... you know... not talking at the moment xD) as far as romantic ones go. Friendship wise I just watched The Marvels and I got hit hard with Kamala, Carol and Monica (yes the fanfic part helped but I was there ok I feel her so much with this).
F - What’s the longest you’ve ever been in a fandom?
14 years and a half with Sanctuary apparently xD (God I'm old :)))
K - What character has your favorite development arc/the best development arc?
I'll go with favorite development arc and the first one that comes to mind is Cordelia from American Horror Story (Coven and Apocalypse and yes Apocalypse was a shit show plot wise but I still loved her in that one so yeah xD). Still, the way she went from basically a wallflower to the Supreme who tricked the Antichrist just to get her girlfriend back from hell? Yeah. I stan.
U - Three favorite characters from three different fandoms, and why they’re your favorites.
I hate the different thing because I can't do both sides of Teslen for the record xD. But fine. Girls it is.
Helen Magnus from Sanctuary. And it's a very long list as to why but basically Amanda needed something in which she was in charge ok? And I don't mean SGA in charge because that was more like a desk job if anything else. Helen is that, and way more. She's badass, no-nonsense, has a very big heart (too big in some cases but I don't want to talk about that), super smart, can hold her own in combat and does it in heels... I think that pretty much covers it xD.
Eda from The Owl House. Because I lowkey want her to adopt me if that's a valid answer (I mean I would also want Helen to adopt me but I'd maybe also want Helen to do other things to me or at least let me watch while she does them to Nikola and adoption would make that weird so yeah). No but serious answer? I fell for Eda the second she said that thing with Us weirdos have to stick together and yeah. She may be basically a wine aunt but she's also a mother hen (owl? literally actually xD) and she can talk as much as she wants about eating kids and all but she's too kind to actually do it. And she went from burning a school down to actually running the place (of course I don't have details on that fuck Disney but yeah).
Cassandra Cillian from The Librarians. I always said that from all the characters I've known she's the most like me (minus the brain tumor thank God and minus the magic unfortunately). But she has this quote about how she was basically a super smart kid but she didn't want that to be the only thing she was, and yeah. I felt that.
V - Which character do you relate to most?
I actually answered that above with Cassandra but yeah xD. I still stand by that :P

ok asoiaf/hotd thoughts…idk if there is even that much to say about this? but like. now that hotd is out and has been watched by a bunch of people and lots of interesting discussions have been had around it (and terrible ones but let’s ignore those for now)…i care even less about dany than i did before. and the idea of her restoring targaryen rule to westeros is The Worst. so now i’m just kind of like…what’s her point in the story??? i guess the dragons could help with the winter apocalypse stuff and fight the others and all that but dany herself? i just can’t picture her having a place in westeros at all, at least not in a way that i would find narratively satisfying. and this also ties into the idea of jon embracing his targaryen heritage (gross) and getting the iron throne which would also be stupid bc we’ve seen the targs destroy each other and themselves and the country so sticking one of them back in charge is just ridiculous. and the two of them are probably the strongest candidates for “the prince that was promised” so what does this mean for that whole prophecy?? idk what my question is i’m just rambling at this point lmao…i guess i’m saying that twow and ados should partly be about the real End of the targ dynasty and if they’re not than idk what we’re doing here. sorry if this is nonsensical lol
okay so both of these are kinda asking the same questions so i'll talk about it here!!
the idea of targ restoration is one of those theories that has a couple different interpretations and the one you described is like, kinda the worst of them lol.
like the idea of dany winning and surviving the end is not an unfounded, nor irrational theory and no one is wrong for wanting that to happen-- why shouldn't she win versus anyone else if she maneuvers in the right ways and effectively wins the game!
i think what i personally take issue with is the version of this that posits dany's conquest as a Moral Good and something that NEEDS to happen because of nebulous down-the-road threat that she doesn't even know about yet. and that other characters arcs (jon's, tyrion's, varys even?? are all veering towards targaryen restoration). i've even seen them claim that the entire point ASOIAF as a whole is about targ restoration. nothing else matters its all about getting them dragons back in power, which i think is the most WILDLY insane thing i've ever heard in my life.
i think this theory of 'targ restoration' is one that wants to have it both ways- for dany to fight and win a war of conquest, but also not be seen as a villain because of it (because of the fans own need to be on the Moral Right of things) (there's a larger discussion here about fandom and morality politics especially in asoiaf)
and frankly... that just isn't how it works.
and this is mainly bred from dany stans who never wanted dany to be anything other than a 100% Good Person who cannot be challenged on a moral level and she is always on the right side of every conflict regardless of nuance. and so when HOTD makes up this whackadoodle prophecy of aegon NEEDING to do a conquest and he was totally justified in all the fucked up shit they did, it was because of some vague threat of the Others and the Long Night to justify their dynastic claims to Westeros. (i'll be honest, i think ole king joe made that one up)
not to mention i think they've completely lost sight of the narrative function of the targaryen dynasty as a relic of a bygone era and dany IS the last of it.
and if we're being completely honest, from what i've seen of the most hardcore targ nation stans, most of them don't really care about the prophecy or the threat of the Others, but that her capacity to help should be used as political leverage (as in the show) to enforce the subjugation of everyone else. and that in fact, they should be grateful because she's the ultimate yass queen girl boss slay etc
but if that's the takeaway you get from the Feudalism Is Bad And The Chair Is A Metaphor For It books, then idk what to tell you. there's a lot of ways that you can interpret what grrm writes, but i can promise you that Conquest Is Good Sometimes is not one of them. characters want to be their own heroes and will always justify themselves however they need, but that's not the intention the reader is meant to take away from it - or at best should feel challenged by.
and dany is absolutely one of those characters. even tho she's not my personal favorite, she's a character that you're meant to both sympathize with because you've been on this whole journey with her, but also be challenged by the hard decisions ahead. its not about cut and dry good/evil, but understanding her motivations and why she makes those choices.
i think it's no question that dany will play a major part in the conflicts to come in the north and the war against the white walkers. to what capacity, i have no idea. as azor ahai, as nissa nissa? as somehow both? no idea. but what i think ultimately what dany will have to war with internally, will be choosing her war of conquest (the thing that's defined her personal growth and all of her strength) and the war for humanity.
the reason why i hate 'targ restoration' is because it reduces so many characters into this wildly simplistic box based on dynastic lineage. i super hate the inclusion of tyrion in this theory because he is Not a targaryen and that isn't the point of his story at all. and even tho jon's father is rhaegar, a large part of his arc revolving around identity is him carving out one for his own. all for him to start going by 'jon targaryen' in the end??? i litchrelly hate it. i do think jon and dany's arc are going to intertwine in some way and i hope its way more compelling than it was in the show, at least for my own sanity.
and lastly to the point of what dany's place in the world will be, i think that's something she struggles with now and will also struggle with in the future. there's the surface level wants and broad-stroke politics, but what i think is interesting will be to see a character like her rise to the heights that she will no doubt achieve in terms of Plot, but all she wants is the house with the red door.
there's an innate tragedy to just wanting to be as safe and home as she was when she was five, even if it was temporary, and what it will mean for her to ever have that again. this is really the difference between her and her brother viserys. he DOES remember, that WAS his life and his insanity is fueled by that being stripped away like so many other children in war. but it was never dany's. idk what the end of the series means for dany, but i really cant see the end of her story being with her sitting on that throne and restoring that dynasty from hell.
#this is a long winded way of saying i hate this theory so much and i hate targ nation especially#asoiaf#long thots#asoiaf ask
