anyway i got my hadou mew through basically a miracle encounter - back in 2020 i was buying a lot of older pokemon games to fill holes in my collection, either games i never owned or games that i lost over the years from childhood, and as for my missing gen 3 games, i ended up going for japanese copies of firered and sapphire instead of english because having foreign carts is neat but mostly they're just a lot cheaper. buying secondhand pokemon games is always fun because often times the seller doesn't wipe or even check the save file and especially if the save file has a lot of playtime, they're like time capsules from a stranger right. so both games come in and the sapphire has nothing interesting but i'm perusing the boxes of this firered and uhhh

LMAO my initial reaction says it all, i literally just found this thing on a completely random firered cart i bought! it was not advertised to have mew in it on the ebay listing, in fact the seller i bought from sells a LOT of imported japanese pokemon games (and other gba titles) so i imagine he just has a pile of these and he picked out a random one to mail me without so much as checking what was on it.

of course mythical pokemon on gen 3 carts are dubious, it's not like it's particularly hard to gameshark a mythical pokemon, especially considering that i've gotten a secondhand file before with shit like a box full of Deoxys caught at level 2 on the first route in hoenn LOL... so i was pretty serious about checking for legality on this thing as best i could - backed up the save file and inspected it in pkhex, all data was 100% accurate to the event and also reasonable RNG wise, like normal random IVs and stuff... checked for archived versions of this event mew, none of them were identical to online injectable ones, which means the owner couldn't have downloaded and injected it... and most of all, context clues

here's ancient pictures of this mew traded to my english leafgreen so it's readable for everyone - i had not done anything with this mew yet so it's completely untouched from how i found it here. we can tell from looking at this that whoever owned this mew was training it with the exp share as its still holding it and is level 23 despite being met at level 10, and the moveset... solarbeam, mega punch, dragon claw?? very random moveset that i can only imagine a child using. this mew looks like it was played with by its owner legitimately. additionally not shown here, the firered cart had a lot of playtime and like 2/3 of the dex complete, the boxes were full of pokemon that the owner had been breeding and a few unhatched eggs, like i hatched one and it was a completely normal eevee so they may have been getting extra eevees for pokedex purposes etc.

basically i cannot 100% confirm this mew was obtained legitimately without teleporting back in time and getting that japanese movie preorder bonus myself, but there is literally nothing strange about this mew and the save file it comes from is well loved and appeared to be played by a child doing normal pokemon stuff. so for all intents and purposes, this mew is definitely legit to me. actually insane happenstance. i have never gotten anything this crazy from a secondhand file before

think of it this way. some japanese kid in 2005 preorders a pokemon movie > he goes to the store to redeem it for a mew in person. in 2005. in japan. > he plays with the mew a bit > at some point he stops playing pokemon > he sells the game to some random american seller after never wiping the save or removing the mew > the american seller buys jp pokemon games in bulk to resell on ebay so he has a ton of them and probably doesn't check them for what's on them or the old save files > when i order it from this random ebay listing, the american seller picks a random fire red cartridge out of his bulk stash and mails it to me > it ends up in my hands 15 years later after the kid first got this mew

What's your opinion on certain merch that is limited only? Do you think there should be more instead of being limited only?

I have a negative view on limited merch runs because so often- okay, basically every single time- orders are overrun with scalpers who don't actually like the product or the series, they're just trying to make a profit off of fans.

A big recent example of this that blew up on social media was the Pokemon x Van Gogh Museum collab. They were giving out these adorable cards of Pikachu painted in the style of Van Gogh and were overrun with people who wanted the cards just to resell them. Oh, and they had some exclusive merchandise for sale; there are videos of people literally swarming the museum in an attempt to buy as much as they can, presumably to resell it. As of right now, you can see this exclusive merch up for sale for hundreds of dollars on sites like eBay and Mercari.

My feelings on scalpers and this situation in a nutshell:

Anyway, I think that limited/exclusive merch is a fucking industrial-grade magnet for scalpers and companies have shown time and time again that they're either unprepared for this or don't care. Because really, they're still selling out of these items, like they care if those items go to fans or if they go to scalpers.

So yeah, in general I'm really not a fan of artificial scarcity. As a collector myself, I'd rather more people have the chance to buy something and cherish it than for me to have bragging rights over getting a rare item.

can you just ramble? ramble for as long as you want. as a fellow late 00s brit who's into some of the same interests as you (specifically vida the vet, charlie and lola, me too, balamory, abadas, and literally just any other cbeebies show i grew up with) i'd love to hear it!

if it's a ramble you want, a ramble you shall get. In other words here's like, my complete history with CBeebies. As a 08' kid, I was born in a weird transitional period for the channel. This was one year after they introduced the now iconic blocks of Get Set Go, Discover and Do and Big Fun Time, and Chris and Pui were going to move on from pres in 09' to work on Show Me Show Me. Postman Pat was just fresh from it's big SDS overhaul, which people either loved or hated (I think I liked it as a kid but looking back on it, it's nothing to get worked up over IMO, I just don't get why Pat can do James Bond-esque stunts now and is perfectly content riding a motorcycle.). Oh, and there was this little show about a garden of the night that began the year prior, I doubt that you've heard of it. Yeah, In the Night Garden was probably the first major CBeebies show I remember getting obsessed with, and looking back at it? I honestly don't know why. It's not a bad show at all, don't get me wrong, but I don't know why I was so obsessed over it to the point of having this dancing Igglepiggle toy as a kid.

Also, I remember loving the Hahoos as a young'un, part because a CBeebies magazine I got ages ago had little Hahoo toys. I took them on holiday to Turkey with me, yeah can you tell I'm autistic? I don't think I have them anymore, and if I do they're probably all scuffed up and missing paint. But that's okay, I can easily buy them on eBay to fill a place in 2 year old me's hear- HOW MUCH FOR 5 SMALL PIECES OF PLASTIC?

Yeah I didn't know these things were going for this much until my mum saw someone on Facebook ranting on how stupid expensive they are nowadays about a year ago. Anyways, on the topic of CBeebies' Bedtime Hour (and A Quarter nowadays), there's one elephant in the room I must discuss, the closedown screen.

This slightly green thing telling you to get some sleep absolutely terrified me as a kid though, it wasn't on the same level as the Eastenders theme's doofs and Christmas crackers if I remember correctly, but it still gave me PTSD for years on end. (Hey, at least I wasn't around for when the channel started, I really wanna meet whoever thought it was a great idea to make this screen bright blinding pink right after the goodnight song settled everyone down, just so I can tell them how dumb that idea was.)

Like all things I was spooked of as a kid, I got over it when I was getting nostalgic for the brand. Speaking of closedown screens, how is the closedown screen for the 2023 rebrand really good? Like, it would make a great screensaver without the text. You can say what you want about the new logo (which I think is fine, it fits in with the rest of the modern BBC branding so it succeeds in that aspect), but you gotta admit they did a really good job with revamping the idents for the channel.

Anyways, onto more of my favourite CBeebies shows. Charlie and Lola is easily up there as one of my favourites. It'sMy mum distinctly recalls taking me to the live stage show (which, live stage shows are a whole other can of worms I can talk about), and I couldn't remember much about it so I researched it, and it looks like they did a ridiculously good job of translating the show to a stage play while keeping the show's unique artstyle.

Balamory, obviously as a CBeebies viewer prior to 2016, I know what a Balamory is. I don't need to explain it. Though one weird memory I have is I remember going past the local barbers one day and seeing a Balamory rerun airing. I dunno why they showed CBeebies in the barbers of all places. On the other hand, Me Too!, which to me always felt like Balamory, but a wee bit worse (because that's exactly what it was!), and I don't remember my exact feelings towards it as a kid, but as a teenager, I became obsessed with it after found the Me Too! YouTube channel after I was pretty much done binge-watching Abadas. It quickly became my main comfort show, like if I'm not in the mood for anything else, just stick an episode of Me Too! on, there's like 150 episodes and I'm not sure if I've even seen over half of them. I've seen more MT! eps than Balamory though, probably cause it's more easily accessible. With Balamory, you gotta go on the internet archive for episodes of that. Abadas was one of the shows I distinctly remembered the intro for, though I misremembered it with Baby Jake of all shows (they came out around the same time). I went and revisited it one January day in 2023, around the time I was starting to put my Bubble Guppies hyperfix on the backseat as the show was about to end, and instantly fell in love with it. Really wish the production company behind the show didn't go bust as there was a lot of cool supplementary material with the show as well, they did a bunch of shorts on Vimeo which I happily recommend.

Eventually, I fell out of CBeebies around 2014 or so as, well, I was getting older and was ready to move on to more grown up shows (this is coming from the same kid who kept actively watching Nick Jr. well into his teenage years). But then I was channel surfing at my nan's around October 2019 or so and decided to stick CBeebies on for fun after deciding whatever was being shown on Challenge was too boring, I guess. Something Special was probably the show that launched me back into my CBeebies hyperfix, yea of all shows. Completely forgot the show used Makaton and as someone who was interested in sign language I went on a binge-spree to study all of Justin's signs. I became fairly competent at it. I got into Hey Duggee for a a bit as well, known as every parent's lifeline apparently. The game show episode is one of my favourites, mostly due to all the fun references they crammed into the episode. As a fan of the shows we people call game, it was a fun surprise. I also rediscovered some of my old childhood favourites that were still getting reruns. Swashbuckle was a bit too recent for me to have recalled watching it as a kid but my brother was certainly around for it and Tree Fu Tom, which was still rerunning at the time. Charlie and Lola still aired reruns, and back in 2019 I kinda just glanced at without much thought before realising a few years later that it was actually really good. Night Garden made me cry of nostalgia, and I also thought Baby Jake was the biggest feverdream ever conceived on television. I even was one of the weirdo's who listened to CBeebies Radio, though honestly there's no point in listening to it live as you can find all it's content on the Sounds app. Admittedly, I haven't gotten super into Bluey. Y'know, the most popular preschool show of this decade that didn't begin in this decade? Yeah I watched about 10-15 episodes of it, said "wow, this is one of the best preschool shows ever crafted", and then moved on to watching the same 40 Blue's Clues & You! episodes again. I'm sure if I force myself to binge watch it more I'll fall head over heels in love with it though. So if I haven't gone crazy for Bluey, what modern CBeebies shows have I gone crazy for? Funnily enough, two that released within the span of around 5 months. The Game Catchers was the first one I got into. I just kept binging episodes and instantly fell in love with it. Always thought the show's main concept was really, REALLY good. Teaching kids about outdoor games in the day and age of iPads is a really smart move. Don't really see many people in the fanbase yet unfortunately, it's certainly one my favourite CBeebies shows from the last 5 years. Also it has absolutely ruined me as any time I hear or say the phrase "so cute" I immediately have to connect it to Nina.

Vida on the other hand I pretty naturally got into. I checked it out, watched the first few episodes, and thought it was pretty good, but never intended it to become my next big hyperfixation. I was sooooooo wrong. I've always had a soft spot for shows with cute animals (Was a big LPS 2012 fan way back when) so naturally this was always destined to be a show I'd fall in love with. I also love all the characters in the show too. Pippen's my personal favourite, but Zigzag is a REALLY close second though. She's a cute bunny who canonically has ADHD. What's not to love.

Okay I think I've talked enough and I've been typing this out for like, 2 hours, I really need some sleep. I could talk about all sorts of other CBeebies shows I enjoy (LazyTown, Tish Tash, JoJo & Gran Gran, Carrie & David's Popshop's a more recent one I've binged from the days of old) but I've talked enough so yeah.

It's okay! I've been meaning to take that out anyway. I only put it in a while back because I was getting overwhelmed with asks about the fic and then it was making it harder to write it because I was basically putting all the ideas there vs the fic, if that makes any sense. I still don't have any more specific headcanons I'd share, as I've shared a lot, but I would love to answer any questions people have!

Jackson will start his double board certification soon so he can specialize in plastics and ENT. Mark will be stressed about his mental state being able to handle it as Jackson's been under a lot of stress lately.

Mark checks to make sure Jackson is breathing when sleeping, even when he's in an older space.

Jackson doesn't have a screentime limit, but mostly because he doesn't need one. He'll easily play with toys or find other stuff to do. Mark also doesn't buy into "screens will rot your brain".

Co-sleepinng helps both Mark and Jackson. One, Jackson gets the comfort he needs and he feels safe with his dad. Two, Mark sleeps better knowing that Jackson is right there, breathing and safe.

If it's not obvious, Mark is an extremely anxious parent and works hard to make sure that his anxiety doesn't rub off on Jackson.

Prior to Addison, Mark would go on dates and have one night stands, but he always went on them during Jackson's shifts. And he'd never bring anyone back to the apartment. He wasn't about to expose Jackson to any of that.

Additionally, Mark never intended to date someone seriously until now. One, his heart was still caught up on Addison. More importantly, he knew Jackson was not in the right place until now for him to date and potentially get a mom.

The Yankees hoodie is the equivalent of a security blanket for Jackson that he can bring everywhere because it doesn't give away that he's a Little.

Jackson tends to prefer 90s cartoons/children's shows because they were all things he wanted to watch when he was younger but Catherine never let him since he had to be "a big boy". That includes Barney (of course), Arthur, Little Bear, Rugrats, Bear In The Big Blue House, etc.

After Jackson moved in, Mark changed all the pillowcases in the apartment to silk ones to ensure his hair was protected.

Because Jackson tends to like a lot of older shows that may not have a ton of merch you can buy at stores today. Mark gets a lot of stuff off eBay, Etsy or at thrift stores.

This was one given to me by @cianmarstoo but Mark has an intern use a Cricut to make stuff related to his 90s obsessions.

Jackson is a "spa baby", aka he loves lotions, face masks, etc. One, he has super sensitive skin. Two, it helps him de-stim.

I didn't go into this in fic, but Jackson debated keeping the "Avery" in his name. Because while he has a complicated history with his family, it's still a huge part of him and helped him get to a certain point in his life. So, he changed his middle name to that. But still took on "Sloan" as a fresh slate.

Though, Alex still calls him a "nepo baby" because even if people don't know he's an Avery...Mark is still a well-regarded plastic surgeon that people fly from all over to see. And Jackson points out he literally has Grey in his name, so is he one to talk?

I'd suggest looking for albums on ebay or amazon, or looking for other FOR X who are selling their albums on twitter, instagram, etc.! Buying secondhand is the best way to avoid giving Spire any new profits. And often you can find sealed albums being sold, so it'll feel just like brand new :)

*However I will say, given the ongoing legal issues, I have literally no idea if Spire is even still making money... Honestly I was surprised that they performed "Play Dumb" at those basketball and soccer games because I thought Spire would own the rights to all their music and usage of it. Now I'm obviously no Korean copyright law expert, but I have to say this feels like a good sign, right? Again, I don't know... but I'm hopeful that OMEGA X will be able to retain the legal rights to everything they did and made under Spire, and that Spire won't make a single penny off those boys every again.

Yes, I'm shocked.

Currently residing under the name Adult Burgundy Ruffle Top, we have this garment. In the store, I also found it in white, but I can't find it in white on the site.

But here's what it looks like under a JSK.

Honestly, the cool thing about this is that, if you're new to lolita and you're not crafty, you can wear this blouse as-is with a coordinate, and it will be fine. It's going to be something that you want to upgrade in the future, either by doing some quick modifications or by replacing it entirely, but if you're trying to do your first coordinate for Halloween and you're on a time crunch, it's great. A lot of us got into lolita by making a first coord for halloween or for an anime convention, and that's totally acceptable.

I did a couple of quick modifications to make me like it better, but if you don't want to, you'll still have an okay blouse that won't majorly detract from a coordinate.

Negative #1, the chiffon edges on this whole thing were just overlocked (sleeve on the left). This is a bit of a bummer when your collar is so close to your face. I ran the right sleeve through a narrow hem on my serger (sleeve on the right) just to neaten it up a bit.

You can also use the satin stitch or the machine-rolled hem techniques that I posted in this old tutorial from 2014.

For the burgundy blouse, I used some wash-away stabilizer and the "sew lace on your sewing machine" technique from this post.

Negative 2, this blouse has pretty high armpits since it's modeled as an off-the-shoulder look.

I wanted more armpit clearance than this blouse gave me. Initially, I thought I'd have to add a gusset, which is a skilled and time-consuming process. Then I realized that the sleeves are very full and set up in a way where it really won't impact the final shape to literally just cut the armpit lower.

So yeah, just line the seam on the side of the blouse up with the seam on the sleeve, map out where you want to cut on your sewing machine, and trim. It's a very easy adjustment, and it's in your armpit so if it's a little asymmetrical, no one will see.

This blouse will work without the armpit clearance modification, but if you like armpit room, go up a size from what you normally wear. This mod isn't a style decision as much as a comfort one.

Before someone says "wow, you can get the same blouse on Taobao for way less than $22," yes, you can! But there's a lot of people out there who are getting started in lolita, who aren't confident buying things online, and who are still getting their lolita-usable blouses as Goodwill and Target. If you're buying blouses at normie stores, this is a really good find. This is especially true for the younger generation of aspiring lolita-wearers, who often need to ask parent permission to buy things online, and whose parents go, "Wait, so you go on this site, and it's all in Chinese and there's no prices, and you copy and paste what you want into an email, and then you send that email to a person in China who will tell you how much is costs, and then they order it and you pay shipping on that and then they send it to you and you pay shipping on that, and you just have to take the internet's word that this is cheaper than this one I just found on ebay that looks EXACTLY THE SAME as this one?? How do you know my card is safe? How do you know this isn't a scam?"

This also double-applies for younger people who want to get into lolita, who have no income, but who DO have a budget for a halloween costume. I know a lot of people whose family budgeted for a halloween costume for every family member, and it was these people's only real chance to buy weird clothes that they got to pick out without having to justify to their parents of "Okay, but how often are you going to actually wear that?"

ebay! actually most of what i've uploaded was from several discs i bought from one seller. their account is gone but once in a while i see a similar looking listing which makes it feel a bit sketchy. and tbh i think selling discs like this is questionable - a transfer of videotape onto dvd and probably made several times (i'm guessing) to sell. the only reason i bought them is because most of the vids they included didn't show up in searches on youtube or vimeo or whatever. basically i bought them for the purpose of uploading them lol also one of the discs was busted and only half of it plays but i can kind of see the rest of it and it kills me. i've posted screenshots of some of it. i die thinking about it, there's good footage but it's fucked up. :( so be aware of that possibility.

and uh i recommend checking to see if you can get whatever they're selling for free before you buy a fanmade dvd or cd. a lot of bootleg concerts are sold too and can be downloaded instead. ask me if you can't find one, if i've got it i'll give it to you. :) i don't remember if i've made a post about where i download that stuff.

i bought a couple cassettes too that i didn't see online anywhere. and if it's a cassette or a vhs tape, it can be transferred to a pc! takes work but i did it myself, don't let that be an excuse!! (you could ship it to me and i'll do it... i'd even pay for shipping)

anyway if you don't use ebay regularly, here's some tips:

use saved searches. i have 'inxs' and 'michael hutchence' saved. sometimes the michael search has things not in the other, though it's not a lot. most sellers put inxs in the description somewhere even if it's a max q cd. anyway, do your search, any filters you want (i don't use any but it means the search can be large and full of shitty t-shirts), then click save this search. you can set mobile alerts if you use the app. when i'm in full obsession mode, i'll check it as soon as i get the alert lol

use the watch feature. this is risky if it's something you 100% want because someone might just buy it out from under you. but if you're willing to risk it, watch it. some sellers will send offers to watchers. meaning a lower price. i bought an item recently that i watched over a period of months, each time it renewed i watched it again, and each time the seller sent an offer. there's an auto offer feature. point is, finally i decided i wanted it and sure enough, upon its renewal and me watching it again, i got the offer and accepted it. of course in that time, someone else could've bought it. but it's worth doing instead of bookmarking the listing like a regular webpage. the app can also notify you if a watched listing is ending soon and stuff like that.

if you ever see the atlantic records inxs wood cubes please send me a message immediately. i've lost two attempts at buying them and i'm obsessed with that and want them so bad it's stupid

also i'll be a bit of a jerk here and say: don't upload stuff with your watermark on it. :) one of the vids i put up on my channel, someone had already put it up but with their watermark. so i purposefully put it up without a watermark because it is not mine nor it is the fan's who uploaded it and stuck an ugly watermark in the corner. i am firmly anti-watermark. it is not mine or yours. if anything, you should put inxs in the corner or the record company or whoever the hell actually owns it. i know uploading stuff takes effort - i paid actual money on the cds/dvds and spent literal hours trying to figure out that broken disc but! it's still not my stuff and watermarks look ugly so i fundamentally disagree with plastering your name on this sort of thing. i am grateful to fans who upload stuff even with watermarks. but i think it's wrong. like ethically and visually.

"It's my birthday! I'm so old!"

It's actually not my birthday for another three weeks, and I'm also not that old. But I do feel it, 21 feels like a proper adult age, I feel like I should be much more accomplished and sensible as a 21 year old. My mum was starting her teaching career at 21, and I'm still buying teddy bears on ebay just to feel a bit of happiness. I feel like I should grow up a bit. But on the other hand, you only live once, so I may as well do whatever I want while I still can, if that means spending all my wages on care bears, then so be it. My work really is becoming so much more important to me, it is quite literally my diary, filling it in everyday and showing the world my thoughts and priorities.

You may have noticed, all of my work includes both a character and text, this is so vital to me because this is how I do my communicating. I use bubble writing, I think this stems to my need to use childlike, comforting themes within my work. I remember learning how to do bubble writing when I was about 8 years old, and my brain associates it with a time where I was relatively carefree and imaginative. For me, it also relates directly to when I first properly began to illustrate, I would write stories of adventures and animals and bugs and fairies on scraps of paper, using my newly learnt bubble writing for the storyline. I'd staple the pages together and call them my "books", of which I would sit and read to my baby brothers, showing them my handiwork that I was so proud of. This has followed me all my life, I have always felt this desperate need to entertain and share my work with those around me, it started with my little brothers, then I started to draw little notes for my mum that I would leave in her bedroom every day before I went to school, now I share all my work with hundred of people on my Instagram account. I can't even begin to explain how happy it makes me to see people repost my work to their stories, tag their friends and comment words of kindness on my illustrations.
