Feb 2024 Wk 4

Ongoing Series - Thai

The Sign (Sat YT) ep 12fin - Everyone looked like they were having a lot of fun in the fight sequences. I’m very happy for them. I’m not surprised they shot Khem and Chart. A little shocked it wasn’t also Yai, TBH.

I found this final episode rushed. According to rumors, The Sign was originally slated to be 14 eps, and it probably should’ve been. And I don’t say that often about Thai BL. But we all knew it was getting too bloated for its britches, so I'm not surprised they fumbled the ending. For me personally, it just wasn't that bad. It was fine and I was fine with it.

Tho, Billy does not look good with facial fur, messes up those gorgeous angles.

I was ultimately amused that the solution to the mythology thread was simply to talk to the river god and persuaded him to give up... off screen. It felt very old school wuxia. Or like Aeschylus or something. I did adore the stinger, Saint was basically like “I want wings too”. 

FINAL THOUGHTS

This show is literally everything (except straight) all at once. It's BL, queer, band of brothers, romcom, erotica, PNR, fated mates, police procedural, fantasy, mystery, suspense, and slasher. It’s the king of genre mash-up chaos. Sure, it's madness but there is genius in it. Was it a crazy unhinged mess +1 roll for damage? Yes. Yes it was. Did it manage to hold all those tangled threads together? No it did not. Was it also a charming, sexy, engaging, non-stop piece of entertainment? Sure thing. I think this show is basically my KinnPorsche, and frankly I’ve been chasing that dragon naga since KP aired. Is it perfect? No. But it was balls to the wall FUN and that gets a 9/10 from me.

I'm thinking of doing a full recap review (partly because I have so many great screen shots.)

Cherry Magic (Sat YouTube grey) ep 10-11 of 12 - Since this series is following the yaoi so closely, I knew these were the separation eps. (Also I knew with would be a soft non-doom ep 11, Japan rarerly does these.) I like that they used it to show improve communication and development in all relationships, but, frankly, TayNew are just best when they are TayNew together on screen. So yeah. Let’s keep them back together, please?

Meanwhile, TayNew gifted us a gorgeous loving sweet sex scene. Thanks OG for doing us a solid. 

I wanna add, it sure is fun to see New play as soft and vulnerable character, I feel like he hasn’t done that since SOTUS.

Cooking Crush (Sun YT) ep 12fin - 1/3 of this is a sweet romance about a student doctor falling in love with a student chef, and the rest of it is utter dross. Look the OffGun bits were GREAT.. In fact, I think they’re better AS A PAIR in this show than in any of their other BLS. And I'm a hard sell on any OffGun being better than PickRome. Saying that, how can I review a show where I could only tolerate 1/3 of it? Because I didn’t like any other aspect of this show, no other pairs and no other plots. That gives me: 9/10 for the OffGun bits, 5/10 for everything else. Frankly it probably should be an 8 but I gotta go with my gut and it's upset about this so 7/10. Sorry boys. It’s GMMTV’s fault. Your heart was in this show, mine wasn’t. 

City of Stars (Fri iQIYI) ep 4 of 12 - These two are so good at making heart eyes at each other. It’s ridiculous. They don’t need any cartoon images or noises. Moot crush but "I wanna flirt and court more" is so flipping awesome. I love this for them… and us. 

1000 Years Old ep 2 of 12 - It’s very silly and we have been gifted with the dorkiest vampire ever. But... the smell thing makes me so happy. And I like that the vamp uses chan/nai or tan = v old fashioned. Nahlak. I love our ghost girl. Did you notice she wasn’t in the room with them but they left an empty chair for her? Also nahlak.

Ongoing Series - Not Thai

Perfect Propose (Japan Fri Gaga) ep 5 of 6 - Kai was pretty much just “you're a workaholic but I basically married you whether you like it or not.” SMOOCH. What can I say? I'm a sucker for this dynamic.

AntiReset (Taiwan Fri Viki/Gaga) ep 5 of 10 - How is this show so cute? How do they both love and hurt each other so much. They are both just scared of loosing each other. Gah.

Unknown (Taiwan Sat Youku YouTube) 1 of 12 eps - Youku dropped the first ep to their YouTube channel but I doubt we can expect that to continue. Still, it was nice to be able to watch it in a convenient way. I enjoyed it. But I am cautious about it. Of course this is possibly two of my favorite tropes of all time (stepbrothers or a variation + hyung romance). So I’m looking forward to the romantic thread, but from the gritty style, it feels a lot more like a Taiwanese short. Which means it could go very dark and may not end happy. 

Although I Love You and You AKA Sukiyanen Kedo Do Yaro ka (Japan Thurs Gaga) ep 7 of 10 - I just don’t know if the main couple should be a couple. But when they finally get around to talking to each other, they sure are lovely. Also how great is it to see a uke initiate a kiss? Even if it’s not a very good kiss. 

My Strawberry Film (Japan Thurs Gaga) ep 2 of 8 - I am still not sure about this one. I am not contesting its quality, just saying it’s not for me. Also I’m not wild about what amounts to basically a redo of everything that already happened in the first episode from a different perspective. I know it’s a tall order with Japan, but I would like (when it’s a short series) for each new installment to actually move the plot (such as it is) along in someway. Am I asking too much?

Hello professor and CEO of Ai Hoshino! I don’t know if you’ve gotten an ask like this before (I think you did but I honestly can’t find it now) but I’m curious, in an AU where Ai survives and manages to graduate/retire what do you think her life would be like after? Being an idol is a huge part of her character so it’s hard to imagine her without that. In an RP with some pals of mine I was thinking of submitting an AU version of Ai where she officially graduates from being an idol and decides to move to a small city (which is the setting of the RP, I wanted to come up with a reasoning for why she’s there) which is mostly why I’m asking, I don’t wanna mess up her character

YES… LET HER RETIRE AND JUST HANG OUT… 😭 PLEEEEASE GET HER OUT OF THESE SITUATIONS….

It admittedly is really hard to conceptualize who 'Ai' is without idolhood, because so much of her personhood has been tangled up in and warped by the entertainment industry but tbh, I think you could make that struggle to find herself post-idolhood an IC thing and have Ai try to carve out 'Ai Hoshino's' identity when she isn't defined by 'Ai of B-Komachi'. And I think above all else, the thing that really matters to her the most is being Aqua and Ruby's mother - it's the thing she finds the most comfort, joy and genuine emotional fulfillment in. So if she was ever going to leave idolhood and Tokyo behind, it'd be for them.

I don't think she could ever really fully leave the entertainment industry, tho - I mentioned this in an earlier ask I don't have handy, but she really is kind of trapped there. She sacrificed her education and formative years to it and the result is someone who doesn't really have the skills to navigate mundane, day-to-day life. Kyun mentions in Viewpoint B how shittily ex-idols get treated when they try and make their way into the working world and that's for girls who AREN'T autism creature gijinkas without full literacy or a high school diploma.

So I've always thought she'd graduate to being a multi-talent, a TV personality who does a bit of everything but is still kind of defined by her 'Ai of B-Komachi' image even after she's tried to shed it. She'd do a lot of TV shows and variety stuff, but singing and dancing would always be her main focus. She'd keep doing that to put away a good amount of money for Aqua and Ruby's education and probably start stepping back a bit more into private life once those two graduated university and she didn't need to worry about providing for them as much.

I have to say, I was absolutely obsessed with your Reverse Falls AU back in the day (still am tbh), and it was/is my favourite version of any Reverse Falls AU that had been done. I love that Gideon and Pacifica weren’t just given Dipper and Mabel’s personalities like a lot of other versions of that AU, and that they felt like the better version’s of themselves. I’m still wondering what the plot was gonna be concerning what Stan was up to and with Ford being trapped in the portal and such. Regardless, your writings still have a chokehold on me, so thank you <3

I don't think I'll finished my own full version of the plot as I planned to, because it was kinda intense. But I'm very glad I made all those one shots and that they make people happy. I loved writing them and I still adore this AU.

TBH, I had a huge plan for the Stanford backstory and it was so unnecessarily complicated. Theres stuff I would keep but other stuff I would probably axe.

Short version is Stan and Ford moved to Gravity Falls when they were 12. They befriended a young Carla and Fiddleford and the four of them formed a little scooby gang that would solve the mysteries of Gravity Falls.

A young Ford stumbles upon the cave with the incantation to summon Bill and he translates it. So a young Pre teen Ford meets Bill much earlier than in canon and this influences him for the worst.

Stan doesn’t break his machine, Ford still gets rejected and this sends him on a dark spiral. He leaves town without a world.

Ford still builds the portal and falls into it, but this time it wasn't an accident and he was pushed in it on purpose. By Stan. 😬

The one who is actually trying to open the portal in this AU was Pacifica's mom. 😱

Play It In Reverse

While working for their Granny Carla, Pacifica and Gideon come across a nameless journal with mysterious content. They start to unravel the secrets of their home town, but they find some things are better left hidden when their path crosses with the Pines twins.

Ch 1 - Part Time Tourist, Full Time Trapped

Priscilla Northwest had not been happy when her daughter had brought up that she wanted to get a job for the summer break. Priscilla had stated that it was below a lady of her station to have a part time job and work for one of the lowbrow hicks that lived in the town. Besides, what was the point in getting a job when they were already rich.

But Pacifica had been persistent and Priscilla had seen the fiery rebellion in her violet eyes. She wouldn't easily back down from her position, not without constant tantrums and complaining. The child had always been annoyingly stubborn when she set her mind to something. Though Priscilla couldn't say she was much different when she was Pacifica's age.

She didn't really want to deal with an angry reckless teenager when she had a city to run. And she doubted Preston could keep Pacifica in line on his own. And it would be much easier to continue with her work if Pacifica wasn't wandering about the mansion on a constant basis.

The more Priscilla pondered on letting her daughter get a summer job, the better the idea seemed. The only problem was finding a place for her to work. She wouldn't let Pacifica be caught dead laboring in the greasy lumberjack diner. Priscilla would have to make sure that she had a respectable job with a trustworthy employer. An employer who wouldn't mind being saddled with a fourteen year old girl with no previous work experience and no knowledge of how to work for a living. It would be a difficult task, even for the mayor of the town. Priscilla was gifted in finding the right strings to pull to make sure things would work out to her design, and she didn't doubt her abilities. But not many respectable people would accept taking on a new employee for the entire of summer when the season had just started.

Acquaintances were unlikely to accept Pacifica, but family was another story.

Long and short term plans formed within her mind as she reached out to pick up her phone. Dialing a familiar but unused number on her phone, she took a deep breath as she brought the receiver to her ear.

An eccentric voice answered on the third ring. "You've reached the Mystery Shack, home of the legendary swamp beast foot. Just the left foot though, the rest of him is still buried in the swamp, plotting a way to find his missing limb. If you'd like to see it for yourself, come on down and enter-"

"Mother," Priscilla said to the woman on the other end, cutting off her sales pitch. "It's Priscilla."

The friendly tone in her mother's voice flipped on a dime. "Ah Priscilla, thought you might call," Carla stated with clipped sarcasm. "It's only been a year."

She cringed to herself in response to her mother's attempt at guilt tripping her. She hadn't called in order to get told off for not keeping in contact. Even though she was sure that her mother would love to focus on that subject.

"You know how busy I am, mother," Priscilla replied flippantly. The response left her lips before she could think better of it. Too late to take it back now. She examined a bit of paper work that had been pushed off to the side of her desk. Something to focus on other than the rant her mother was going to go on.

"Too busy to keep in touch with the family?" Carla snapped, temper showing in the sharpness of her voice. "Honestly Pris, I haven't seen you in years, and neither has Gideon. And seeing you on TV does not count. You haven't even called or written. We live in the same town, for god's sake. I've barely seen any trace of my granddaughter, who I also haven't seen in years, by the way."

Priscilla's ears perked up at that last sentence and her mind raced to engineer the perfect speech. Immediately, she adjusted her voice and spoke in an pleasant tone. "That's actually why I called you," she stated diplomatically. Lies spun out of her mouth like spiderwebs, laced with ulterior motives and secret plans. And like a spiderweb, they entrapped the woman on the other end. "Pacifica has been so consumed with her studies for the past few years, I thought it would be good if she had a break. I was hoping that you could let her work for you this summer, since you aren't particularly well staffed. It would be a great chance for you to bond."

There was a long pause on the other end, and Priscilla wondered if her mother was able to see through her. If anyone could, it was her. But even if her speech had rung false in her mother's ears, she doubted the woman would pass up the chance to spend time with her only granddaughter.

"So, you want me to take your teenaged daughter off your hands " her mother asked, a hint of amusement in her tone that Priscilla wasn't particularly fond of. "Alright, I'll let her work for me. On one condition."

The word condition alone was enough to tense her muscles and cause an uncomfortable flexion in her fingers. However, despite an initial discomfort, Priscilla kept her composure, because this was her mother and she rarely had an ulterior motive that extended beyond extra family time.

"What did you have in mind?" she asked with a neutral but polite tone that never betrayed her emotions.

"Pacifica stays here at the shack, it'll be like summer camp," her mother chirped, and Priscilla could tell she was smiling on the other end. "Plus I won't have to waste gas money, driving her back home."

The idea of Pacifica sleeping in the musty old shack Priscilla had despised in her childhood, made her cringe with disgust. However, it lined up with her motive to keep her daughter out of her way for the summer. Besides, it would be a good learning experience for her daughter, experiencing how the lower class lives. Perhaps she would finally understand the difference between the Northwests and everyone else in this town. Perhaps she would return home and actually be grateful for everything Priscilla had given her.

So, despite the revulsion that twisted her stomach when she thought of her daughters perfect blonde locks resting on the stained and unkempt beds of her childhood room, Priscilla kept a cheery tone. But not too cheery and with just the right amount of tension in her vocals. "That sounds wonderful."

She could practically see the triumph in her mother's eyes when she replied. As if taking in a teenager for the summer was some great victory. "Swell, you can drop her off this weekend." With that Carla hung up the phone, probably feeling very proud of herself.

There was a twitch at Priscilla's lips when she hung up the phone. In another life, if she had been burdened with a lack of ambition like other pretty girls, she probably could have become an actress.

A small group of shuffling tourists pilled into a small, dark room. A young boy stood at the front of the group, leading them further into the darkness. Once the last person entered the room, the door slammed shut behind them, startling the tourists inside. Even in the darkness, people were able to see the little boy's light up shoes and the glimmering rhinestones adorning his cap. He was the only thing their eyes could follow as he came to stand on a platform.

"Now y'all gather in close," the boy stage whispered, his southern accent ringing clear as a bell. "And listen well as old Clarabelle tells you the darkest secret of Gravity Falls. I suggest those of you with feint hearts cover your ears."

The group was collectively pulled in closer by the softness of his voice. They were gathered tightly together now. Each person whispering of either conspiracies, skepticisms or wonder at what they were about to hear. No one saw the large smile on his face when he spoke again. "Now try not to scream, old Clarabelle's in a ... delicate situation."

There was a click and a single spotlight shined on the stage. The sudden light source assaulted everyone's retinas for a moment, when their eyes readjusted to the light the group let out a series of gasps. The white haired boy stood atop a stage that was made to look like a creepy living room, with ancient looking furniture and spiderwebs hanging off of everything. There was a single rocking chair in the centre of the stage, and sitting on it was an old woman who's appearance caused some of the audience to tremble. She was tightly bound in an old fashioned straight jacket, that would have been white if it weren't for the questionable dark crimson stains that streaked it. Her hair was long, stringy and a mess upon her head. But the real terrifying thing was her sunken in, erratically shifting violet eyes.

When she looked upon the people before her, a crooked and wild grin found its way to her lips. She tilted her head to the side to show off the sharpness of her teeth, causing people to notice that she had long fangs in place of her canines.

"Well, hello there, dears," she crooned to the crowd in a sickly sweet tone. "It's so nice to see such fine people visiting our little town. This sleepy little town, with wholesome citizens and lovely sights. At least, that was what the uninformed would assume. But I know differently. There are shadows in the forests, shifting when you get close enough. Strange phenomenons that cloud this town's history. Why even in this ver-"

She paused, crazed violet eyes snapping upwards towards the ceiling. Her breath hitched as she stared ahead, her gaze not really fixed on anything. Everyone waited in anticipation for her to finish her statement, or perhaps for her to snap into a violent rage.

She slowly craned her head towards the audience, a smile stretching at her lips but not affecting her dead eyes. "Sorry dearies, it seems you've come to visit old Clarabelle at a terrible time. You see-"

The old woman was cut off by a sudden rumble beneath the stage. She glared down at the floorboards as if they had offended her.

"You see, tonight is the new moon and-" the woman tried again, though her character was slipping. Her voice was a lot louder this time but her words were drowned out when the mechanical rumble bellow to stage turned into a full fledged roar.

A trapdoor in front of the old woman's rocking chair opened up with a slam. Puffs of smoke poured out from the opening, accompanied by the sound of distorted dog growls. The now confused and horrified audience watched as something large and fury emerged from the stage.

An animatronic werewolf jumped up from bellow the stage, only its hide was on fire. It's hinged jaw jerked rapidly and the rubber skin and synthetic fur melted away as it was licked by the flames. The thing's voice box was damaged by the heat, and the long howl it was programmed to make became distorted. The screech it made sounded like nails on a chalkboard.

The tourists screamed, some of them feeling the heat from the very real and dangerous flames. This little scene had clearly gotten out of control, and no one wanted to stick around to see the damage that would come of this malfunction. The group fled the room in fear, rushing passed the gift shop and back to their cars. As a collection of cars sped away on the dirt road, no one in the line had an inkling to ever go back to the Mystery Shack.

The boy, who had been guiding the customers, had fled the scene to fetch a nearby fire extinguisher. Luckily, due to prior experience with combustible machinery, he was able to douse the flames in a few moments.

As the large clouds of smoke rose up from the opening, the animatronic flopped over lifelessly and it's rubber skin sizzled. The old woman fluidly slipped from the confines of her straight jacket and tossed it to the side. Upon finding the room barren of tourists, she cursed loudly. The boy's hands automatically shot up to cover his ears as the woman cursed over and over.

"I thought you said it wasn't going to catch on fire this time, Melody," Carla McCorkle snapped, yanking the itchy wig from her head and throwing it to the ground in disgust. She spent all month preparing for this werewolf bit and now all these rehearsals went to waste. Not only that, but all the paying customers had booked it out of there without so much as a tip.

"I'm sorry," a feminine voice called out from under the stage. From the trap door, a young woman emerged. Her face and clothes were coated in soot and her hair was severely disheveled. "I really thought I fixed all the problems but when I went to turn it on, there was this pop and then a flame sparked and everything just got worse from there. I'm really sorry Miss McCorkle, I think it had something to do with the-"

"I don't care how it happened, just get it fixed," she said, brushing past the bewildered and frantic young woman. She yelled at the top of her lungs. "Robbie! Robbie, get over here!"

When there was no response, Carla stormed out of the room and into the gift shop, only to find her cashier missing.

Pacifica sat before the cash register, counting the money, or rather the lack of it. When her grandmother entered the room with the fury in her violet eyes, she straightened her posture to put up a facade of alertness.

“What happened?” the blonde asked, a sculpted brow arched in confusion. “I saw everyone run out of there and I thought someone died or something.”

“Those people are wimps,” her grandmother growled, glaring out the window where she could just make out the tail end of the retreating automobiles on the dirt road. She turned to her granddaughter with a frown. “Where the heck is Robbie?”

“He went AWOL after all those people ran out without even buying anything,” Pacifica answered with a shrug, though she turned her head to gaze wistfully out the window, the way she had seen the cashier go. “He said he would be hanging out with some friends.”

“Lousy teenagers,” Carla grumbled, crossing her arms and glaring out the window. “This is coming out of his pay check.”

The young boy came running in, out of breath and grinning like they hadn’t lost out on a whole lot of money.

“Good news,” he chirped, and Carla looked towards him with a skeptical gaze. “Melody got the fire out. Bad news is she’s going to need a week to fix the werewolf bot.”

Carla groaned dramatically, raking her fingers through her thick grey curls. While she mumbled a string of curses to herself, her grandchildren shared a look of acknowledgment and subtly nodded to one another.

“Weeeellll,” Pacifica said, dragging out the word as she stepped out from behind the counter. “Since today was a bit of a bust and Melody is working on fixing the werewolf, Gideon and I were gonna go out for a walk in the woods.”

Upon hearing this, Carla to her granddaughter with a suspicious glare. She inclined her head in interest, searching for any hidden intent in Pacifica’s facial features or posture.

Gravity Falls wasn't the kind of place you would expect people to travel to on purpose. It was a small town, built on the lumber industry, with not much in terms of attractions. There was a grand total of four restaurants, two motels, and one mall. The town held some weird traditions and fostered a bunch of creepy local legends, but other than that it was basically a pit stop for weary travellers taking a road trip in the pacific north west.

The tree was cool to the touch, and had the texture of steel. The realistic paint job mimicked the colour and shadows of bark and had fooled Pacifica and Gideon into believing it was real.

Out of curiosity, she carefully ran her hand along the tree side. She paused when her fingertips caught on a small grove in the metal, indicating that there was some kind of opening.

Part Time Tourist, Full Time Trapped: Gideon and Pacifica go out to get pictures of something spooky, they come across gnomes. The gnomes find the two truss passing on their lawn and try to force one or the other into marriage. When they escape, the cousins stumble upon the third journal. They use it to escape the gnomes by summoning the manatoar to scare them off.

Once in a Waxing Moon: Pacifica finds a poster for the Mystery Museum's new wax exhibit. Carla flips her lid and immediately calls up Fiddleford Mcgucket to assemble a new attraction to beat out Stan. Pacifica and Gideon help Melody and Fids with the creation of the Gobblewonker. They do the painting. Pacifica meets McGucket for the first time and learns how Melody started working for Carla and how she became a mechanic. Like a try hard, Carla shows of fat the wax exhibit unveiling and shows up Stan with her gobblewonker. After an enormous explosion takes out everything, Paz and Gideon decide to find out who caused the destruction. With a tip from Wendy, they find out that Stan was around when the thing blew up. But that's weird because Carla and Stan were fighting at the time. Something Is sketchy so they go snooping around the mystery museum late at night for clues. They find out that it was actually Stan's wax figure that blew up the robot and they nearly get killed by some wax figures. Pacifica meets dipper Stan and Carla get into a fight and Paz gets some free tickets to the tent of telepathy.

There's Something About Mabel: Paz and Gideon and Melody go to the tent of telepathy. Mabel is interested in Gideon and approaches him with the intent of owning him. He's excited to be hanging out with her but he gets severely scared of her and has to put up some boundaries. This makes Mabel even more determined to have him and she starts pressuring him to date her and smothers him and nearly threatens him. Paz, seeing the effect Mabel has on Gideon, confronts her and tells her to lay off a bit. Mabel doesn't take this well and traps her at a factory and promptly tries to kill her. Gideon receives the ransom note, and tries to appeal to her better nature. He lets her down easy but Mabel goes full out horror show on him. Paz tries to rescue him but Dipper shows up and stops her. Dipper convinces Mabel not to kill Paz or hurt Gideon and she begrugenly follows him, not without threatening Paz on the way out.

Season of the Hand Witch: Gideon and Paz start panicking about the mystically powered twins and consult the journal for answers. They can't find anything on the mystic amulets but they do find info on a psychic witch who may have the answers to how they can defend themselves. They go to the handwitch who tells them how to make hex bags to stop the pines twins from using their powers on them.

Mabel goes to meet them at the shack and act threatening but finds she can’t use her powers. Pacifica is a bit gloaty about it.

Mabel goes to tell Dipper about how they got had. Dipper is surprised that Pacifica found away around her powers, and he’s impressed but not too upset. Its just a couple of kids after all. Sucks for Mabel tho. Mabel is like yeah it is unfortunate. Especially since Pacifica has the other journal. Dipper just screeches "WHAT?!"

The Art of Failing at Seduction: the party at the mystery shack, a birthday party for Stan thrown by Carla because she thinks its funny and she makes a big deal about advertising how old he is. Pacifica and Dipper share a confrontation when she keeps catching him sneaking around while she fails to put the moves on Robbie. He gets his hands on her journal but he is dumbfounded when he sees that it’s journal number 3. Dippy thought she had journal number 1, he had no idea there even was a 3rd journal lol. She hits him with a chair and gets the book away from him. He demands to know why it’s the third journal and where the first is. She has no idea what he’s talking about.

Pioneer Day: Pacifica and Stan are both mortified at the discovery that its Pioneer Day. Carla sets up a pioneer station at the shack to get more customers and to piss of Stan. Pacifica has to do the Pioneer Day speech every year.

Trick or Treat or Die: Pacifica pisses off the summerween trickster and then they have to collect a whole lot of candy.

Splash: Gideon falls in love with a magical manatee.

i’m thinking about exploring gale’s relationship with alcohol in a bit of a different way/with more nuance than flat-out abstinence from it. he still thinks of himself as being sober, and he always will be as a result of how alcoholism affected his childhood and the knowledge that it runs in his family/that he’d likely be really susceptible to it.

but with how engrained alcohol also is in society at large, and in having a social life, but then also his own personal life (his job, and now being with john who drinks regularly) he also knows a flat-out blanket ‘no’ approach only serves to make alcohol a much bigger deal in his own mind than it should.

also he feels kind of silly being taken out for a nice/fancy dinner and ordering a coke with it lol. so in cases like that (but never in the house) he’ll have one (1) glass of wine that’ll inevitably make his cheeks flush a bit - which john thinks is the cutest fuckin thing - but won’t otherwise have an affect on him.

all that to say because they’re out as a group, in more of a party city, and they have curt with them, they inevitably end up going out dancing more and get a bit more into the nightlife than john and gale would have if they’d went away by themselves.

during which time, in-keeping with how he approaches it back home, once in a blue moon on a night out he’ll let john order him one (1) whiskey sour and he always gets excited about the novelty of actually getting to buy gale a drink, lol.

by sheer force of bartender habit, when he gets it he dips the straw in just to get a quick taste of it, like how he does sometimes just to make sure a new/unfamiliar cocktail is made right, or if a patron complains about their drink.

his eyebrows furrows immediately “they’ve messed up the proportions on that…” the firefighters laugh and everett’s just like “🙄 girl you’re not on shift PLS chill out.”

well, as someone with 2 degrees in art history i am afraid i will be a bit biased here but i say absolutely do it if it's something that you love and are passionate about!

being completely candid here i had the best time in school. the BEST time. i loved every second of what i was doing and learning and it never felt like a chore. then for about 5 months post-grad i wanted to find a very large hole and bury myself in it because i could not get a job that utilized my degree to save my life. they were either extremely low paying (seriously, no person could live off of that wage and they were also PhD preferred) or entry level jobs calling for 5+ years experience ???? Like. GET. REAL. (not to worry tho i just recently got a job (aye) as an exhibitions and collections specialist at a museum so we are so on the up and up again)

also being candid here. you're never going to make a ton of money in this field. you're not gonna be "rich" and 95% of it is who you know. the art world is small. TRUST. also, most positions in an art historical field require at least a master's degree tbh. a lot would prefer a PhD especially if you're looking to do curatorial work in any time period pre 1920s. (so if you're an impressionist/baroque/renaissance kinda person be prepared to get a PhD and be prepared to learn another language aside from english to get a good job in the field) <- i do find that it's easier if you're more modern and contemporary focused to get on with just a masters degree

that being said, if this is what you want to do. if this is what you love. it is never a waste and you will find a way. (if I can find a way anyone can find a way). my best advice is talk to your professors, do internships, work if you can !!!! volunteer at your art museums!!!! meet and talk to the museum professionals in your area and NETWORK!! (I can't stress enough how many times someone has been like "oh you worked [redacted] did you know [redacted]?'" and i could be like "yes!!! i worked under them for two years loved her!! blah blah blah" it goes a long. way. i've had professors send me gallery writing guides and artist biography guides from when they worked at the MET so i would know how to write them, academic advisors in scotland know my art history professors in undergrad and subsequently became my bestie by extension, curators at a museum i volunteered at teach me how to work archival systems when they had a free minute)

talk to as many people as you can!! network!!! get some experience in archival systems, instillation work, art historical research!! work with your local university's/city's museum or archeological center! that way, when you're on your inevitable 239823 interview post-grad, someone at some gallery will be like "oh you worked here? under so-and-so???? you're hired"

i love it. what i do doesn't ever feel like work to me, it's exciting and fun and enjoyable and not something i do so i can do other things. it's not something i do just to make money. it's hard. post-grad is hard. but it's hard for a lot of people rn, not just art historians. i'm always gonna say go for it!!!! it is never a waste to do something you love!!

hi there fellow delusional yuritshou person 🤝 thank you for this ask i'm always happy to talk about them, even tho i'm actually not sure what to reply JDSJD tbh i don't have many hcs that are specifically yuri (they could work for regular ritshou) but here are some random thoughts i've had about them if that works for you:

ritsu is canonically popular with girls so fem ritsu obviously still is too. her fangirls give shou the stink eye

shou absolutely hates being called cute like she gets so annoyed if anyone does, but if it's ritsu she forgets how to breath

this is a common ritshou trope i think but i like the idea of them sometimes sneaking out together, often at ungodly hours, and doing random stuff: one day they'd hang out at the park or take a walk in the city, other days they go exploring the woods or abandoned places etc etc. sometimes shou teaches ritsu how to use her powers during these outings and ritsu would get very obstinate when she can't manage to do something. one day she tried so hard that she ended up fainting and shou had to carry her home (and def stared longingly at ritsu once she left her on her bed)

i've also been thinking about this sports au that i didn't post here...DHFHGH basically their teams train in the same sports centre, they caught each other's attention and try to impress the other when they notice they are looking (shou on purpose, ritsu unconsciously)

they're both very competitive and have an ego, as they'd be one of the best players on their teams, if not the best. ritsu is used to people trying to approach her but she always acts disinterested, however that suzuki girl is being hard for her to ignore...

Hi! I just want to say that I absolutely love your writing and your art. City of Blank is my favorite comic by all reasonable measures (not counting my special interest) and your art style is so cool and unique that it’s inspired me to learn how to use half tones and rougher lines.

Mostly the point of this ask is that I wanted to tell you that you’re not alone.

Webtoon comic sections (and webtoon readers in general) are famous for their complete and total lack of reading comprehension. Maybe it’s because of the format of short episodes every week, which leads to reading spread out over time and in tandem with literally dozens of every series.

If I’m being less generous it’s because the vast majority of people are absolute idiots who believe the first narrative they see and parrot it forever, without ever caring to check the facts or learn new ones.

This is part of why Claude supporters are so vocal compared to the rest of the fandom - most readers simply see a clingy villain who almost definitely has a personality disorder. The people who care enough to actually read the comic see him as an apathetic but deeply relatable person, who is misunderstood by the world and has seriously messed up priorities. These same people are the ones who make fan art and cosplay because they actually care about the story.

My point is, don’t judge your comic off of the comment section. If you’re feeling generous, don’t even judge your fanbase. The people who care enough to donate on patreon, make fanart, cosplay, and post about CoB. Those are the people you should listen to. Someone once said “If you wouldn’t ask them for advice, don’t listen to their criticism.” That person clearly didn’t have anxiety and they make it sound easy. It’s not. But try to judge with the people who care over the people who don’t.

And even if your comic sucks (which it doesn’t)

Aw man I rlly wish there was another Ninjago movie - I know that many people hated that movie but tbh I had actually enjoyed it a lot - cuz of the comedy and well- I will eat anything from Ninjago up 🦭

The thing is- I rlly do think they should have done some things differently, ofc. Like give more attention to the actual ninja team rather than most of the movie being centered around Lloyd and his relationship with his father. Like yeah, that concept was great, but let’s be honest, most of us were here for the ninja team- not just Lloyds daddy issues. And while yeah- they DID have screen time, I still think they deserved more screen time? I wish we could explore more of their life in high school as secret ninja and their dynamics.

That also brings us to their changed personalities. Even tho I don’t HATE how they’re written in the movie- it still bothers me that they changed their personalities to what they were- and for what??? Even tho their personalities are fun and all that - and it must be pretty fun explore that side of their character and how their dynamics are now that they act that way, we all still in uso muy wish they remained the same. Because that would make us love and enjoy the movie even more- because it would feel a lot more like a “high school au” and the whole concept of them living in the city and going to high school and actually having to hide their identities and all that, would be a lot more interesting and enjoyable for the fans if they kept the characters personalities. Because now, it just feels like they’re completely different characters.

For example, Zane was a huge let down cuz wtf happened to him like they legit threw his whole preonaliry out the window. Cole? Even tho I love him in the movie he’s just lacking his leader, friendly yet tough personality - you know what I mean. The others I don’t actually mind that much but yeah y’all get what I mean.

Theeenn well, I wish the plot was better. Plus I wish each ninja would of explored their powers and all that more during the movie.

OVERALL my main gripe is how they did the ninja - our main characters. Which I think is smth most of us can agree. It’s like yeah I liked them in the movie but man it would of been a lot better if they just kept their original personalities and well, gave them more focus. And all I wish- a simple wish so I’m not even gonna actually gonna happen 💀 is that they suddenly decided that “hey let’s make a second one and fix the mistakes form the last one - that being GIVING THE MAIN NINJA MORE FOCUS and probably a funner plot “ 😭😭😭

The did like each other before they went through the portal, but when they were dropped into this new and scary world, romance was put on the back burner to focus on their survival. There was an awkward phase in the beginning tho, where neither of them really knew what to do. Even a point where they were both so stressed and frustrated and scared that it resulted in a lot of arguing and couple dramatic scenes where someone would storm off or say something they didn’t mean (it’s a ship au, you know I had to do it to em.)They did like each other, but they also had bigger fish to fry, at that point it’s been a few months and they’re starting to worry that no one is coming for them. Eventually, they get in a situation where they think they’re about to die, and confession happens >:] after they survive, they start to settle into the idea more. Even though they’ve met other people in their time there, they feel like they only really have each other.

At first, everything was unofficial. Casey would flirt relentlessly and Leo would pretend he’s annoyed. But after they realized they were probably in it for the long run, they made things official.

It took them a while to get used to their new environments, they tried living in the cities, but found it to be more stressful that being out in the wild. I imagine that they probably had several run-ins with gangs, struggled to find food or water, and had to hide out in abandoned places and alleys. Eventually, they moved out, I like to think that their last straw was one of them catching an illness that was running rampant in the city which could possibly be life threatening. Who gets sick is fine either way for me tbh; either way, one has to find a better place to live outside of the city, fight off anything dangerous, take care of the essentials (shelter, food, and water,) on top of taking care of the sick one.

The events leading up to their wedding are as follows: they’ve been busy recently, hunting large fauna and salvaging ancient tech, both to sell and trade off in the cities, it’s going well for them, they have money and supplies to support themselves (mostly) and have a somewhat permanent place to live. During a slightly riskier hunt, they find themselves overrun and Leo almost dies. Casey sees it in slow motion as a deadly hit misses him by less than a centimeter and experiences more fear than he ever has before. Immediately afterward, while they’re still fighting off these creatures:

C: “WE NEED TO GET MARRIED”

L (slashing at something with his sword: “WHAT?”

C (louder): “MARRY ME! NOW!”

L: “NOW?!”

C: “YES! WE WONT LIVE FOREVER”

L: “OK”

C (calling over to someone nearby): “ (insert name) MARRY US, WE WANT TO GET MARRIED”

X person: “WHAT, NOW!?”

C (holding off an attacker with his weapon): “YES NOW DO IT”

X person: “ok then... DO YOU CASEY TAKE LE-“

C: “I DO”

L: “I DO”

X: “I NOW PRONOUNCE (shoots something) YOU HUSBANDS YOU MAY KISS THE GROOM”

And cue hurried kiss in the middle of a battlefield with possibly an explosion in the background

Ichiro: honestly probably wouldn’t allow himself to date anyone until saburo graduates college. Unless of course, before that, his bros push him to date because they’re worried about him being lonely but they don’t want him to be happy I mean have friends I mean uh get jealous easily so I wouldn’t count on that :/. Other than that he’d make a really attentive and fun boyfriend who would always put you first but not before his brothers. Kuko is best to be his bf just sayin

Jiro: while dating he’d be really shy about it and would probably be a huge dork but definitely good at protecting them and they would have a good time.

Saburo: annoying lol (also sorry, sabu, you can’t date until you’re…….16 :////j)

Samatoki: if he likes you enough to date you he would be really nice and take you out on dates and buy nice presents but also he’d probably p busy with the yakuza stuff. also you might end up in a situation where he has to save you after you’ve been kidnapped by a rival gang lol

Jyuto: we know he’s a fake snake so you’d constantly be wondering what he’s up to and if he’s cheating, but it’s actually just money laundering. But before you find that out he would pretend to love you and treat you nicely but get annoyed easily so you have to watch your step lest he uhm get irritated

Rio: if you’re not able to coax him out of the woods to live in the city, you would have to constantly make the trek up into the woods where he is able to find dangerous creatures and he’ll make you eat them. Eating his food will be mandatory. Dice is the best candidate. As a boyfriend he probably wouldn’t treat you much different from anyone else except on certain occasions maybe? Like when kissing lol

Ramuda: I don’t think he would date anyone because he likes playing around so to speak but if he did, you’d probably be treated the same the same as those girls and he would be really afraid of letting his other side show, but if you’re not jakurai about it he could really open up to you

Gentaro: Challenge level impossible lmao BUT you might have fun for a bit until you get fed up, but I just can’t see him opening up… (tbh I can only see gentaro genuinely dating a man and he actually could open up if he was reliable and sincere all the time, unlike gen).

Dice: don’t even think about it UNLESS you’re okay with providing for him and his gambling addiction. I think it could work out like that. If you try to change him he might leave you for the streets again

Jakurai: would start off real nice and comforting but I’m sure he would get annoying real quick as a bf. Plus he’s really busy and probably wouldn’t have that much time to spend with you and he might not be that physically affectionate. Would probably straight up say nice things about you all the time and genuinely mean it tho

Hifumi: he would just treat you like he treats doppo

Doppo: he would be a handful as a boyfriend and hifumi is the only motherfucker in this town who can handle being around him all the time

For backreading, I’m one of the idiots who got sucked into DC Universe (Infinite? Now??? Idk The App™️) when it first dropped as an all-in-one reading/streaming app. Now it exclusively is a catalog/archive. Which is cool!! And they’re constantly trying to expand it & they include ‘new’ releases on a slight delay (abt a month after so if I wanna be Completely caught up with certain runs I’ll 🏴‍☠️that shit if I need/want to) I use it on both mobile & on my tablet/laptop. It’s VERY nice although the bat-bias is pretty obvious on it, there’s some runs/minis that I can’t find bc they haven’t archived them fully/at all yet 😭 Batfam is p much all there tho from what I recall so if that’s your starting pt you’ve got a lot to get thru! 👍

For physical issues/trades, I’m a buy local/in-person believer but this is where i split! For trades, I’ll make a trip usually to the city where there’s more shops to choose from & either buy or order thru them. For single issues I actually love the thrill of Hunting for them thru thrift shops/antique stores/garage/estate sales. I call the place I live a Big-Small town so there’s always Somewhere nearby that I can hunt & usually at least Encounter A Comic even if it’s not one I’m looking for 😂 it’s a lot of fun!!! Just flipping thru them even!!! (& most of the time ppl offloading them have no idea what they’ve got, which is lucky for me lol)

My last resort: getting friends & fam to order online for me lol (the birthday/xmas gift route haha) I don’t like ordering things online if I can absolutely help it! It’s a dumb principle considering how much more convenient it would be (& how much cheaper sometimes) but it’s one I try to stick to as much as possible nonetheless!!! My friends esp let me rant & rave to them abt my favs & diff things I’m reading. It’s not too often, but I cherish each of my trades that were gifted to me so so so much 😭

1. FOB making literally no shows in LatAm let a bad taste on my mouth. They come only for festivals, and I bet that they have enough public here to play a solo show, at least at the capitals/biggest cities. Probably it lies more on fault of their label, but anyway.

2. Use what Joe said in his book to hate on Mania is disingenuous, since he said similar things about other albums too (IOH comes to mind)

3. TTTYG is not very unique? Like, putting it above most of FOB albums is weird to me, since it's mostly a very standard pop punk album (don't get me wrong, I love this baby made of teenboy rage, but anyway)

4. EOWYG is genuinely bad. Theres literally one of two good songs.

5. Suggesting that a band should break up because you did not like their most recent material is weird, I am sorry. Like, if you don't like it, DONT LISTEN??? And for me, is even worse when it's about FOB, since they are very vocal about how much they like to work, tour and just generally hang out together.

6. The Hush Sound was the best band Pete signed, bless Ryro for sending that link for Pete.

7. Speaking about Ryro, he and Pete have the most intersting relationship from all the relationships between Pete and other band dudes, at least for me
